0:02:37 > 0:02:39Um, you are with the rats.

0:02:39 > 0:02:41I absolutely detest rodents.

0:02:41 > 0:02:46All right, group two - Chloe, Courtney, and Tommy.

0:02:46 > 0:02:48You're in the store room.

0:02:48 > 0:02:50- Yes! Result! - Woo!

0:02:58 > 0:02:59Sam, thoughts?

0:02:59 > 0:03:01I prefer the gecko to the skink.

0:03:01 > 0:03:04Good stuff. So, 30 minutes again to complete your Pet Practice today,

0:03:04 > 0:03:07and you want to do them properly,

0:03:07 > 0:03:09get them done in the time correctly today,

0:03:09 > 0:03:11because we've got a very special visitor...

0:03:16 > 0:03:18- ALL: Let's go! - See you later!

0:03:26 > 0:03:29Pet Practice is key to our Pet Heads showing they can responsibly

0:03:29 > 0:03:32care for their animals, and have happy, healthy, and friendly pets.

0:03:32 > 0:03:34And with decision day not far away,

0:03:34 > 0:03:38they can't afford to waste any opportunity to prove themselves.

0:03:38 > 0:03:40Things have just got serious.

0:03:40 > 0:03:43Which means Thomas and William will have to stop being

0:03:43 > 0:03:46ratty about Rosie, Daisy, and Primrose if they're going

0:03:46 > 0:03:50to have a whisker of a chance at getting their very own pet.

0:03:50 > 0:03:52"Why, hello again, Pet Heads.

0:03:52 > 0:03:55"Being a rat can be boring, so they need lots of stimulation

0:03:55 > 0:03:58"from their own pet owners to keep them entertained.

0:03:58 > 0:03:59"Today, you need to...

0:04:03 > 0:04:05"You have just 30 minutes to complete your Pet Practice.

0:04:05 > 0:04:07"William, you are the team leader."

0:04:07 > 0:04:09Can you start doing the cage?

0:04:09 > 0:04:11I'm going to start with the rat crackers.

0:04:15 > 0:04:18Yay, I made my first rat cracker.

0:04:18 > 0:04:22It's funny, the bedding smells like crisps.

0:04:22 > 0:04:24What flavour?

0:04:24 > 0:04:27Ready salted? Cheese and onion?

0:04:27 > 0:04:29- I suppose I'd say ready salted. - Can I get a whiff of that?

0:04:29 > 0:04:32Yeah, go and have a whiff of that, then.

0:04:32 > 0:04:34- Yeah, it does a bit. - I know, it does.

0:04:34 > 0:04:37- Team Rats, hiya!- Hi!

0:04:37 > 0:04:39- Hi, how are you getting on? - We're doing great.

0:04:39 > 0:04:41- Yeah.- I've done the crackers. - Good job.

0:04:41 > 0:04:43Have you put a little hat inside for the rats?

0:04:43 > 0:04:45- Yeah, yeah.- Yeah, you've done that? Good to know.

0:04:45 > 0:04:47- And a little toy.- And a little toy? A little joke?- Yeah.

0:04:47 > 0:04:49Little rat-based joke, good work.

0:04:49 > 0:04:53I think I might try and put one on my shoulder.

0:04:53 > 0:04:56Cool. Hey, this looks good.

0:04:56 > 0:04:58Their tails are weird.

0:04:58 > 0:05:00Yeah, they are strange, aren't they?

0:05:00 > 0:05:02Kind of a bit freaky. How should we get them out?

0:05:02 > 0:05:04- Is there a technique?- Yeah. - Oh yeah, yeah.

0:05:04 > 0:05:06Sure, cheers, Thomas(!) Thanks for letting me know.

0:05:06 > 0:05:09Thought you would like that. Look at William!

0:05:09 > 0:05:10It's weird on your neck, isn't it?

0:05:10 > 0:05:12'Yep, I'm not nervous!

0:05:12 > 0:05:14'I just know that rats like to wee

0:05:14 > 0:05:16'to mark their territory.'

0:05:16 > 0:05:19- Do you want to take him... - If you could, yeah.

0:05:19 > 0:05:23Great. Well, you look like you've got it under control, um...

0:05:23 > 0:05:25- Yeah, I think we have... - I want to really try and...

0:05:25 > 0:05:28Can you try and get one on my shoulder?

0:05:28 > 0:05:30Right, well, don't run away, William.

0:05:30 > 0:05:32You can do it. He's on, he's on, he's on.

0:05:32 > 0:05:34There you go. He's just checking you out.

0:05:34 > 0:05:37You all right? He looks more relaxed than you.

0:05:37 > 0:05:40There you go, give her a little scrub.

0:05:40 > 0:05:43- Can you get him off?- Yeah.

0:05:43 > 0:05:45Boys, good job. I'll let you crack on and finish your task.

0:05:45 > 0:05:48You look like you're on top of it. See you in a bit.

0:05:48 > 0:05:50Bye.

0:05:52 > 0:05:56It's actually very relaxing having one on your shoulder.

0:05:56 > 0:05:58I had a rat on my shoulder. I was a bit scared

0:05:58 > 0:06:01because they have quite sharp claws and it's quite...

0:06:01 > 0:06:02You don't know where they are.

0:06:02 > 0:06:04You're sort of looking over your shoulder.

0:06:04 > 0:06:06But I did do it and I'm quite happy.

0:06:06 > 0:06:07Nice work, William.

0:06:07 > 0:06:10Over in the feed room, Chloe, Courtney and Tommy are going

0:06:10 > 0:06:14to have to be crafty if they want to finish Pet Practice properly.

0:06:14 > 0:06:17This is what one of you needs to be able to make.

0:06:17 > 0:06:20They have 30 minutes to...

0:06:24 > 0:06:27So, these are your different plants that you need to be going to find

0:06:27 > 0:06:29out in the playing fields.

0:06:29 > 0:06:32Take these as your guides for what you're looking out for,

0:06:32 > 0:06:34because it is important. We have got some poisonous plants out there

0:06:34 > 0:06:37so you need to be making sure that you are confident

0:06:37 > 0:06:39- that we're picking the right plants first.- Yeah.

0:06:39 > 0:06:41But all of these are really, good, really healthy,

0:06:41 > 0:06:43and ideal for our pets at the Pet School.

0:06:43 > 0:06:46I think I'll go and help Tommy.

0:06:46 > 0:06:48- OK.- And you can start making the willow balls.

0:06:48 > 0:06:51- See ya. Right, let's go. - Let's go!

0:06:51 > 0:06:53Go, go, go!

0:06:53 > 0:06:55Let's get in the fields,

0:06:55 > 0:06:59- then we can quickly try and find some right...- Search!

0:06:59 > 0:07:02Get searching wherever you can!

0:07:02 > 0:07:04- Let's go to the bottom of the field! - Yeah.

0:07:04 > 0:07:06Quite stressing.

0:07:06 > 0:07:10Get in front, get in front! Let's go, go, go!

0:07:10 > 0:07:12I'll go this way. You can go and check over there.

0:07:12 > 0:07:16- Should we abandon the wheelbarrow and...- Yeah.- ..search?

0:07:19 > 0:07:22As Tommy and Courtney panic about plants,

0:07:22 > 0:07:25Lauren, Faramarz and Sam are finding out what's on the menu

0:07:25 > 0:07:28in their Pet Practice.

0:07:28 > 0:07:30"Feed the skink a defrosted mouse..."

0:07:34 > 0:07:36"You have 30 minutes to complete your Pet Practice.

0:07:36 > 0:07:37"Lauren, you are team leader."

0:07:37 > 0:07:40- Here you go, Faramarz. - What, I'm doing it?

0:07:40 > 0:07:42- You were doing it. - Nope, you can do it.- OK.

0:07:42 > 0:07:44SHE LAUGHS

0:07:44 > 0:07:47It's already dead. It's not like it's alive.

0:07:47 > 0:07:49- No, but it just feels so bad. - I just feel really bad.

0:07:49 > 0:07:51I'd put it right at the front.

0:07:51 > 0:07:53No, down here, down here, at the front of her cave.

0:07:53 > 0:07:55- Down there.- Here? - OK drop, drop it.

0:07:55 > 0:07:57I feel really bad now.

0:07:57 > 0:07:58- Hello!- Hi.

0:07:58 > 0:08:00Come and look at the mouse.

0:08:00 > 0:08:02Yes, yes, yes, yes, look at it, look at this.

0:08:02 > 0:08:04- He's eating the mouse. - He's eaten the mouse.

0:08:04 > 0:08:06The mouse has gone.

0:08:06 > 0:08:08So, we fed the skink. Good.

0:08:08 > 0:08:09Check. Right, next, come on.

0:08:09 > 0:08:10Wow! All right.

0:08:10 > 0:08:13I mean, that's one job done, isn't it?

0:08:13 > 0:08:16It made me feel horrible after feeding that mouse,

0:08:16 > 0:08:18but as long as he's got his food.

0:08:18 > 0:08:20If he's happy, we're happy.

0:08:20 > 0:08:23Back at the feed room, Chloe's bouncing through

0:08:23 > 0:08:24making the willow balls.

0:08:24 > 0:08:27I wander what the others are doing right now.

0:08:27 > 0:08:31Happy as can be, probably, picking little plants.

0:08:31 > 0:08:33I think I've found some rose.

0:08:35 > 0:08:38Ouch! My ankle, my ankle!

0:08:38 > 0:08:40Grab the wheelbarrow, go, go, go.

0:08:40 > 0:08:42It's quite panicky at the moment,

0:08:42 > 0:08:46because we don't really have much time left.

0:08:46 > 0:08:49We've only got about 15 minutes left to find all of this

0:08:49 > 0:08:52and then go back to the store room.

0:08:52 > 0:08:55With only 15 minutes to go, Lauren is feeling jumpy,

0:08:55 > 0:08:57as the rest of her team prepare the crickets

0:08:57 > 0:08:59for Lisa the gecko's dinner.

0:08:59 > 0:09:03- My fault.- Close it, close it, close it! Put the lid on.

0:09:03 > 0:09:04Watch out, watch out.

0:09:04 > 0:09:06Oh, no, you'd better grab that one.

0:09:09 > 0:09:11- Yeah, got it.- Drop him in.- OK.

0:09:11 > 0:09:13- Yes. The rest. - So what do you want?

0:09:13 > 0:09:15Calcium, calcium, a pinch.

0:09:15 > 0:09:18- There we go.- I'm going to shake it. Gently, gently.

0:09:18 > 0:09:21Lisa has over 200 bones in her body,

0:09:21 > 0:09:25and calcium powder on the crickets will help keep them strong.

0:09:25 > 0:09:28Back outside, the only thing growing for the guinea pig team

0:09:28 > 0:09:30is Tommy's frustration.

0:09:30 > 0:09:34Foraging for wild plants is not at all necessary.

0:09:36 > 0:09:38I mean, it's a nice little treat for them,

0:09:38 > 0:09:41but so is hay.

0:09:41 > 0:09:43Why can't you just stuff hay in willow?

0:09:43 > 0:09:46Well, guinea pigs actually need a varied diet

0:09:46 > 0:09:49of seeds, plants and leaves.

0:09:49 > 0:09:50We ain't got much time.

0:09:50 > 0:09:54Go, go, go, take this stuff out! Take this stuff out! Quick!

0:09:54 > 0:09:57You've got to stick some stuff in. That's it.

0:09:57 > 0:10:00Quick, quick. Got to go, got to go.

0:10:00 > 0:10:02Quick, quick, quick.

0:10:02 > 0:10:04We've done it! It's done.

0:10:04 > 0:10:08As Tommy cools down, things between Thomas and William

0:10:08 > 0:10:09are getting a little heated.

0:10:09 > 0:10:11- Leaves.- Please, Thomas.

0:10:11 > 0:10:13- It's fine.- That's enough.

0:10:13 > 0:10:17Try adding some cardboard boxes or even some plastic igloos.

0:10:17 > 0:10:20Yes, go on, find plastic igloos...

0:10:20 > 0:10:25- Well, have you checked the folder? - I did, it says it likes large tubes.

0:10:25 > 0:10:28We do have a lot of stuff to still put in,

0:10:28 > 0:10:30so you don't want to put too much in.

0:10:30 > 0:10:32Yes, Thomas...

0:10:34 > 0:10:36Can we take the food out and see if they go for the rat crackers?

0:10:36 > 0:10:39- No!- We'll put it back in. - No. No.

0:10:39 > 0:10:44They have to have their food bowl. It was already in there.

0:10:44 > 0:10:46William, drop the bowl.

0:10:46 > 0:10:48- I want to see...- Drop it.

0:10:48 > 0:10:50- I'm going to put it back in. - Drop it.

0:10:50 > 0:10:53- I just want to see if they go for the rat crackers.- No!

0:10:53 > 0:10:55- Then I'll put it back in.- They'll still go for the rat crackers.

0:10:55 > 0:10:58- No, they won't!- That's just in case they run out of the rat crackers,

0:10:58 > 0:11:02- they still have some food, so they don't starve.- OK.

0:11:02 > 0:11:04OK, can you get the cage, please?

0:11:04 > 0:11:08The Pet Practice task is very stressful,

0:11:08 > 0:11:11because William is not listening to me,

0:11:11 > 0:11:15and I find, to be a good team leader, you have to listen to the

0:11:15 > 0:11:21people around you, and I don't think he's the best team leader right now.

0:11:23 > 0:11:26I'm just going to let you win the argument...

0:11:26 > 0:11:29to avoid conflict.

0:11:29 > 0:11:32OK, bringing it in.

0:11:35 > 0:11:38Time flies when you're having fun, and that is time on Pet Practice.

0:11:38 > 0:11:41But have our Pet Heads completed their assignments properly,

0:11:41 > 0:11:43or will they be doing extra time,

0:11:43 > 0:11:46and missing out on our special visitors later?

0:11:46 > 0:11:47But, before they find out,

0:11:47 > 0:11:51Marie has something very special to show our Pet Heads.

0:11:51 > 0:11:54About two weeks ago, my work got a phone call,

0:11:54 > 0:11:57and someone had actually been going to do a bit of recycling...

0:11:57 > 0:12:01They saw a cardboard box with 18 guinea pigs sitting in there.

0:12:01 > 0:12:02Someone abandoned them.

0:12:02 > 0:12:04Today, we have two heavy pregnant mums.

0:12:04 > 0:12:06Courtney, if you're able to sit here for us...

0:12:06 > 0:12:09Now, guinea pigs are quite different to humans and other animals.

0:12:09 > 0:12:11They actually have two big pouches on their side,

0:12:11 > 0:12:14so they don't end up with a big belly out the front.

0:12:14 > 0:12:16And, interestingly, they can sometimes have two or three

0:12:16 > 0:12:19babies in one pouch, and the other pouch could be empty,

0:12:19 > 0:12:22or they might have three or four in one, and only one in the other.

0:12:22 > 0:12:24So, hand flat under her belly, that's it.

0:12:24 > 0:12:26Did you just feel it?

0:12:26 > 0:12:27- Yeah.- What did it do?

0:12:27 > 0:12:31It just felt like a little push on the side.

0:12:31 > 0:12:33- Saying hello.- Yep.

0:12:33 > 0:12:35You need to be really gentle with the babies,

0:12:35 > 0:12:38- because she could give birth in... - Ooo!- Yeah?

0:12:38 > 0:12:41It's amazing, isn't it?

0:12:41 > 0:12:44You could feel the babies inside, kicking,

0:12:44 > 0:12:47and it was really amazing, so I'm glad I got that experience.

0:12:47 > 0:12:50Guinea pigs are quite different to a lot of animals.

0:12:50 > 0:12:54They are, within half an hour, fully furred, eyes open, ears open,

0:12:54 > 0:12:57- baby piglets, ready to go. - Really?- Yep.

0:12:57 > 0:12:58OK.

0:12:58 > 0:13:02How old do you think a baby boy could be until he can become a daddy?

0:13:02 > 0:13:04- Faramarz?- One and a half?

0:13:04 > 0:13:05- One and a half weeks?- Years.

0:13:05 > 0:13:07Years? OK, are you ready for this?

0:13:07 > 0:13:11A male baby guinea pig could become a dad at three weeks old.

0:13:12 > 0:13:15Can you imagine that as a human being?

0:13:15 > 0:13:17- Yeah!- A three-week-old dad.

0:13:18 > 0:13:21Nice and gently, bring her straight in to you,

0:13:21 > 0:13:22if you can, Luke.

0:13:22 > 0:13:25So, Marie, do you know how many babies they're going to have,

0:13:25 > 0:13:26or are you not definitely sure?

0:13:26 > 0:13:32From general feel, I suspect she's going to have two to three.

0:13:32 > 0:13:35That's two to three names we need for the baby guinea pigs.

0:13:35 > 0:13:36KIDS GASP

0:13:36 > 0:13:39- Do we get to name them, then? - We'll take the best suggestions.

0:13:39 > 0:13:41- Yes, definitely. - Thomas, do you want to go first?

0:13:41 > 0:13:43Could I name it Thomas? Because I...

0:13:43 > 0:13:45Why would you like to name it Thomas, Thomas?

0:13:45 > 0:13:47- Because that was the pet buddy. - We'll bear that in mind.

0:13:47 > 0:13:51- Anyone else? Faramarz. - Oasis.- Oasis? Why Oasis?

0:13:51 > 0:13:53I don't know, I just thought of it straight away

0:13:53 > 0:13:55- when you said names.- Chloe?

0:13:55 > 0:13:57It's called Chloe.

0:13:57 > 0:13:59One - because I'm pet buddy,

0:13:59 > 0:14:01and two - my mum told me, I think, it means princess

0:14:01 > 0:14:03or something similar to that.

0:14:03 > 0:14:04- One more name, anyone?- William?

0:14:04 > 0:14:07If it's two boys, I like Faramarz's Oasis,

0:14:07 > 0:14:09but I also like Hulk. Hulk and Oasis.

0:14:09 > 0:14:11- Hulk and Oasis. - Little boy. I like that.

0:14:11 > 0:14:12Think about, really,

0:14:12 > 0:14:15are you going to be able to care for a pet for seven years?

0:14:15 > 0:14:17And there's already all these babies in rescue centres,

0:14:17 > 0:14:20so we need to be making sure we know how to really deal with them

0:14:20 > 0:14:22properly, and how to care for them.

0:14:22 > 0:14:25But hopefully we'll find new homes for these guys soon.

0:14:25 > 0:14:26A few days later,

0:14:26 > 0:14:30Kylie the guinea pig had three babies - Thomas, Chloe, and Oasis.

0:14:33 > 0:14:35Still to come...

0:14:35 > 0:14:37Thomas faces his fears,

0:14:37 > 0:14:41Lauren gets her teeth into bonding with her buddy,

0:14:41 > 0:14:44and some never-before-seen visitors wow our Pet Heads.

0:14:50 > 0:14:53So how did our Pet Heads do today in Pet Practice?

0:14:53 > 0:14:57Thomas and William successfully completed all their tasks...

0:14:57 > 0:14:59as did Courtney, Tommy and Chloe...

0:14:59 > 0:15:02and Lauren, Sam, and Faramarz.

0:15:03 > 0:15:06Time to tell them the good news.

0:15:06 > 0:15:08You're in this room because you passed Pet Practice!

0:15:08 > 0:15:09ALL: Yes!

0:15:09 > 0:15:12Good job. So, today, we've got another very special visitor,

0:15:12 > 0:15:16and it's an animal we've never had at Pet School ever before, as well.

0:15:16 > 0:15:18The tall human one is called Gary,

0:15:18 > 0:15:20you might recognise him already,

0:15:20 > 0:15:21and he's brought a special friend, as well-

0:15:21 > 0:15:24Hugo the iguana.

0:15:24 > 0:15:28Oh, that is awesome! Whoa!

0:15:28 > 0:15:30Gary, come and have a seat.

0:15:32 > 0:15:34He's not a small fellow, is he?

0:15:34 > 0:15:36No, whoa!

0:15:36 > 0:15:38He is massive!

0:15:38 > 0:15:40I like him.

0:15:40 > 0:15:42How big is he, Gary?

0:15:42 > 0:15:45Make a mess, why don't you?

0:15:45 > 0:15:48- Hugo's about a metre and a half in length.- Whoa.

0:15:48 > 0:15:51And they can get up to about two metres.

0:15:51 > 0:15:54I should say he's about fully grown.

0:15:54 > 0:15:55That is ridiculously massive.

0:15:55 > 0:15:57Look how long his tail is.

0:15:57 > 0:16:00Hugo's actually got a lovely calm temperament.

0:16:00 > 0:16:03You can see that he likes being stroked.

0:16:03 > 0:16:05He has a favourite spot of under the jowls.

0:16:05 > 0:16:07If you scratch behind there, he loves it.

0:16:07 > 0:16:10- A little bit like a bearded dragon, right?- Yeah.

0:16:10 > 0:16:14Actually, yeah. I loved him and I was really upset to swap him

0:16:14 > 0:16:17for the ferrets, but this is just another scale of a...

0:16:17 > 0:16:21Why does he kind of have spiky teeth on his back?

0:16:21 > 0:16:24The spines here help him with his display.

0:16:24 > 0:16:28It makes him look a little less easy to eat for other predators,

0:16:28 > 0:16:31and a little bit more aggressive,

0:16:31 > 0:16:33so that when he's displaying,

0:16:33 > 0:16:36he really gives off that "I'm the boss" vibe.

0:16:36 > 0:16:37How old is he?

0:16:37 > 0:16:39Hugo's about six years old.

0:16:39 > 0:16:43He was originally a rescue.

0:16:43 > 0:16:45And yeah, they can live about 20 years,

0:16:45 > 0:16:47sometimes a little bit more.

0:16:47 > 0:16:48OK, so a proper commitment.

0:16:48 > 0:16:50In 20 years time, you could have your own kids, William,

0:16:50 > 0:16:53and if you had an iguana, you'd still have him.

0:16:53 > 0:16:54Yeah, that's freaky.

0:16:54 > 0:16:55It is a big commitment.

0:16:55 > 0:16:57So, this one is Joe.

0:16:57 > 0:17:00- He's a beauty! - Aww, he's beautiful!

0:17:00 > 0:17:03This one is an albino, which means that, genetically,

0:17:03 > 0:17:06they don't produce any dark pigments in their skin.

0:17:06 > 0:17:08They can also, if they're caught by a predator,

0:17:08 > 0:17:12drop their tail, and then, over time, they can re-grow it.

0:17:12 > 0:17:15It's a really cool defence mechanism.

0:17:16 > 0:17:18- What's this for? - I'm glad you asked that.

0:17:18 > 0:17:20That's called the dewlap.

0:17:20 > 0:17:22Because it's really thin skin,

0:17:22 > 0:17:25it's really good for controlling their body temperature,

0:17:25 > 0:17:27because it's full of lots of blood vessels and they can catch

0:17:27 > 0:17:31a cool breeze on that, or even, in a sun spot, warm up very quickly.

0:17:31 > 0:17:34Well, Gary, thanks for coming in. Pretty special, right?

0:17:34 > 0:17:35ALL: Yes.

0:17:35 > 0:17:36A really unusual animal.

0:17:36 > 0:17:38Good to see you, thanks for coming to Pet School

0:17:38 > 0:17:40- and showing us your iguanas. - You're welcome.

0:17:40 > 0:17:43- Thanks, Gary.- Thank you, Gary. - You know what you've got to do now.

0:17:43 > 0:17:46You've got to go and look after the animals you've been bonding with

0:17:46 > 0:17:49all week. Go and spend a bit of time, say hello to your pet buddies.

0:17:49 > 0:17:52- Off you go.- See you, guys. - Bye, Gary.

0:17:52 > 0:17:54Aw, I really want to keep him.

0:17:58 > 0:18:01As the Pet Heads check in with their buddies, one person who can't

0:18:01 > 0:18:05wait to brush up on bonding with hers is Lauren with Meadow.

0:18:05 > 0:18:06Hello!

0:18:06 > 0:18:09What have you been doing for your pet buddy session, then?

0:18:09 > 0:18:11- I've just been taking her out at the moment.- OK.

0:18:11 > 0:18:14I'm actually a dog owner, and there is actually quite a few other

0:18:14 > 0:18:16bits and pieces we need to be doing, as well.

0:18:16 > 0:18:19I thought what we could do today is have a little check of her teeth.

0:18:19 > 0:18:21We can see the bottom ones looking nice and healthy.

0:18:21 > 0:18:23What colour are some of them?

0:18:23 > 0:18:26- Some of them are looking a little bit yellow.- Yeah.

0:18:26 > 0:18:28- You've got a bit of nasty teeth in there, don't you?- Aww.

0:18:28 > 0:18:30Yes, you do.

0:18:30 > 0:18:33But it's important as an owner that you're checking regularly,

0:18:33 > 0:18:36as much as you can, and giving them treats, chews,

0:18:36 > 0:18:37all, like, the sort of Kong treats

0:18:37 > 0:18:40that are really going to work those teeth, as well.

0:18:40 > 0:18:42Whilst Lauren gets her dog duties licked,

0:18:42 > 0:18:45Sam is shouldering his rat responsibilities.

0:18:48 > 0:18:50Come and have a little sit down.

0:18:50 > 0:18:53It's always a good idea to start, when you're socialising a rat,

0:18:53 > 0:18:56to start off in a nice comfy zone. So, socialise them on your sofa,

0:18:56 > 0:19:00or somewhere small, where they can't run away and escape from you.

0:19:00 > 0:19:03A good thing with the ratties is that they actually socialise

0:19:03 > 0:19:05- and get used to when you come home from school.- Oh, right.

0:19:05 > 0:19:07So they'll sleep while you're at school,

0:19:07 > 0:19:10and they know about 4 o'clock time, they'll be at the door,

0:19:10 > 0:19:12ready to come out and they'll be waiting,

0:19:12 > 0:19:13they'll jump on you and follow you around.

0:19:13 > 0:19:16If you put the time in with rats, they can be brilliant.

0:19:16 > 0:19:19An easy way to bond with your rats is by offering them treats.

0:19:19 > 0:19:21Now, with rats, they often, like she just did there...

0:19:21 > 0:19:24- Are you OK?- My shoulder...

0:19:24 > 0:19:26What she just did then is just sort of licked your finger,

0:19:26 > 0:19:28and that's just tasting the salt on your hand.

0:19:28 > 0:19:32So, if you keep your hand still, they rarely actually ever bite you.

0:19:32 > 0:19:34They just want to really gently use their tongue to taste it.

0:19:34 > 0:19:39- I'm going to leave you to it. Good job, though. See you later!- OK.

0:19:39 > 0:19:41While Sam has the rats eating out of his hands,

0:19:41 > 0:19:44Chloe is hoping her Pet Practice willow balls

0:19:44 > 0:19:47will make bonding with the pigs a roll-over...

0:19:47 > 0:19:51especially after her mum's concerns yesterday.

0:19:51 > 0:19:53It is a worry if she's not bonding with them,

0:19:53 > 0:19:55because it makes me think,

0:19:55 > 0:19:57"Will she actually look after something that

0:19:57 > 0:19:59"she's not really that interested in?"

0:19:59 > 0:20:02I was a bit unhappy to hear that, of course,

0:20:02 > 0:20:04but I think I've definitely made an effort.

0:20:04 > 0:20:08I've got to try and get them to get used to me.

0:20:08 > 0:20:10It said hold them for a second. There we are.

0:20:10 > 0:20:12Second one of the day, I'm pretty proud.

0:20:12 > 0:20:14It looks like Chloe has had a stroke of luck

0:20:14 > 0:20:17in bonding with the guinea pigs.

0:20:17 > 0:20:19Come on, Thomas...

0:20:19 > 0:20:23Meanwhile, over in the reptiles, it's a different story.

0:20:23 > 0:20:29It's very hard to bond with a snake when you're scared of a snake.

0:20:29 > 0:20:31HE BREATHES HEAVILY

0:20:31 > 0:20:33I don't like this at all.

0:20:34 > 0:20:37Hi, Thomas. How are you doing?

0:20:37 > 0:20:39Not so well.

0:20:39 > 0:20:41While she's out right now, moving around,

0:20:41 > 0:20:43this is an ideal time to pick her up.

0:20:43 > 0:20:45Just touch and lift.

0:20:45 > 0:20:48So, this is her skin here, so I'm going to touch, and go like that.

0:20:48 > 0:20:52OK? Be nice and confident with her, you're a bit too far apart...

0:20:52 > 0:20:55Try not to keep lifting your hand up, because, the thing is,

0:20:55 > 0:20:58every time you keep touching her, that's just going to rile her up

0:20:58 > 0:21:01even more, so you want to be nice and confident and get it done.

0:21:01 > 0:21:04Yep, lift, lift, lift, all the way, that's it, good job.

0:21:04 > 0:21:08Bring this other hand in. Good job. Now, lift her up.

0:21:08 > 0:21:09You're doing it.

0:21:12 > 0:21:13Oh!

0:21:13 > 0:21:18Chill. Let her feel like you're just a nice tree moving in the wind.

0:21:18 > 0:21:21Yeah? You're doing a great job. I'm watching her.

0:21:21 > 0:21:24When she's on me, I don't feel so scared.

0:21:24 > 0:21:26You look a lot more relaxed with her.

0:21:26 > 0:21:28So, just get that bond going, remember.

0:21:28 > 0:21:31Support her body, that's it. Good job.

0:21:31 > 0:21:34Keep handling her for a little bit, but you do seem more relaxed.

0:21:34 > 0:21:36Remember, just keep taking that nice breath, and just relax.

0:21:36 > 0:21:39She needs to feel that you're relaxed, OK?

0:21:39 > 0:21:41Because she's going to be more tense if you're tense.

0:21:41 > 0:21:43Good job, I'll see you later.

0:21:46 > 0:21:50Oh, I don't feel so happy right now.

0:21:50 > 0:21:55She's just left, and I don't know if it wants to go...

0:21:55 > 0:22:00or not...so I'm just going to maybe put her back in.

0:22:00 > 0:22:03There you go...

0:22:03 > 0:22:04There you go.

0:22:12 > 0:22:15Yesterday, our Pet Heads were asked to cast their vote for who

0:22:15 > 0:22:18they thought made best pet carer.

0:22:18 > 0:22:21The person that I will be voting for is...

0:22:21 > 0:22:22Really supportive...

0:22:22 > 0:22:24I think the best pet carer...

0:22:24 > 0:22:27Always works good in a team.

0:22:27 > 0:22:29I think the best pet carer...

0:22:29 > 0:22:30Should be...

0:22:30 > 0:22:33Courageous and brave with all animals.

0:22:33 > 0:22:35I think the best pet carer...

0:22:35 > 0:22:38Works really hard, gets stuck in...

0:22:38 > 0:22:40Ananya is still ill at home,

0:22:40 > 0:22:44so I'm giving her a call to find out who she'd like to vote for.

0:22:44 > 0:22:47Thank you for your decision, Ananya, I'll put your vote in the mix,

0:22:47 > 0:22:50as well, and then we're going to find out who wins

0:22:50 > 0:22:52- later on today, all right? - All right!

0:22:52 > 0:22:55OK, all right, take it easy, and get well really soon,

0:22:55 > 0:22:57- missing you!- Bye.

0:22:57 > 0:22:59All right, see you soon, Ananya, bye-bye.

0:22:59 > 0:23:02- Bye.- Bye.

0:23:02 > 0:23:04But before I announce who's won best pet carer,

0:23:04 > 0:23:08I've arranged a magical treat for the Pet Heads.

0:23:08 > 0:23:10It's been a big day already. We've had a special visitor...

0:23:10 > 0:23:11Yes, loved him.

0:23:11 > 0:23:14But we're good to you. We've got another special visitor...today.

0:23:14 > 0:23:15ALL: Ohhh!

0:23:15 > 0:23:18I think you're going to love this one. It's going to be fun.

0:23:18 > 0:23:20So, you'll know him from Friday Download...

0:23:20 > 0:23:21his name is George Sear,

0:23:21 > 0:23:24better known as Magic George, and he's brought his dog Dougie, too.

0:23:24 > 0:23:26George, come on in!

0:23:26 > 0:23:29ALL: Woo!

0:23:29 > 0:23:30Yes! Keep running.

0:23:30 > 0:23:33- Hi, mate, how you doing? - I'm good, thanks, how are you?

0:23:33 > 0:23:36Good. I'm really good. This is Dougie, right?

0:23:36 > 0:23:38- Yeah, he's a Jack Russell Terrier. - Nice to see you,

0:23:38 > 0:23:41thanks for coming to Pet School. You're busy at the minute, right?

0:23:41 > 0:23:42Tell us what you've been up to.

0:23:42 > 0:23:45If you watch Friday Download, you'll know I'm the magic man on it.

0:23:45 > 0:23:49If I put the 10p here, and the 2p there, right...

0:23:49 > 0:23:51Don't do this yet, but when I say,

0:23:51 > 0:23:55I just want you to close your hands around that coin very quick, OK?

0:23:55 > 0:23:563-2-1, go.

0:23:56 > 0:23:57OK, I'm not sure if I got one.

0:23:57 > 0:23:59Open your hand up slowly.

0:23:59 > 0:24:02You can actually see that the 10p has completely disappeared.

0:24:02 > 0:24:04I know, I know, I know.

0:24:04 > 0:24:06That's not it, yet, I've got to bring it back, right?

0:24:06 > 0:24:08So turn your hand round.

0:24:08 > 0:24:12I'm actually going to drop that coin straight underneath your watch.

0:24:13 > 0:24:17It's ridiculous, innit? That is mad!

0:24:17 > 0:24:19If you're magic man, is he magic dog?

0:24:19 > 0:24:22He is, and you might actually get to witness some magic from Dougie.

0:24:22 > 0:24:25- Should we try it?- Yeah!

0:24:25 > 0:24:27- So Sam is going to be your beautiful assistant.- Yeah.

0:24:27 > 0:24:30- What do you need him to do? - OK, so, Sam...- Yeah.
