0:02:26 > 0:02:28Round One - Pop Potential.

0:02:28 > 0:02:32This is all about how our stars made it.

0:02:32 > 0:02:37# I'm sure you'll tell me anything under the sun... #

0:02:37 > 0:02:42Cheryl, she's such a big superstar, she doesn't even need a last name.

0:02:42 > 0:02:44But back when she was known as Cheryl Tweedy,

0:02:44 > 0:02:46she was right here, in Newcastle.

0:02:49 > 0:02:51Meanwhile, the Arctic Monkeys

0:02:51 > 0:02:55are currently playing to massive crowds across the world.

0:02:55 > 0:02:57But before all the arenas, the Arctic Monkeys

0:02:57 > 0:03:01were learning to rock right here, in Sheffield.

0:03:01 > 0:03:04So how did the Arctic Monkeys and Cheryl hit the big time?

0:03:05 > 0:03:08Let's begin with Chezzer.

0:03:08 > 0:03:11# We've gotta fight, fight, fight, fight, fight for this love

0:03:11 > 0:03:15# We've gotta fight, fight, fight, fight, fight for this love... #

0:03:15 > 0:03:18This is the neighbourhood Cheryl grew up in.

0:03:18 > 0:03:21In a few short years, she went from here to being top of the charts

0:03:21 > 0:03:23and one of the most famous women in Britain.

0:03:24 > 0:03:27# Now every day ain't gonna be no picnic

0:03:27 > 0:03:31# Love ain't no walk in the park... #

0:03:31 > 0:03:34Cheryl's always been a star. She was just in nappies

0:03:34 > 0:03:37when she won Newcastle's Bonniest Baby competition

0:03:37 > 0:03:40and then, she hit the big time.

0:03:40 > 0:03:42# One, two, three, yo Gimme 5... #

0:03:42 > 0:03:44Well, sort of.

0:03:44 > 0:03:47In 1993, Cheryl appeared on a Saturday morning show

0:03:47 > 0:03:49called Gimme 5.

0:03:49 > 0:03:51But she wasn't there to sing, no.

0:03:51 > 0:03:55She was there to show off her awesome ballet skills.

0:03:55 > 0:03:58It just so happens we have a potential superstar of the ballet

0:03:58 > 0:04:01world, who's... Well, you started off in our Gimme 5 titles.

0:04:01 > 0:04:04- And her name's Cheryl Tweedy. Hello, Cheryl.- Hello.

0:04:07 > 0:04:12Awww, have three Ambo points for being on telly at such a young age.

0:04:13 > 0:04:17# I don't need a parachute, baby if I've got you... #

0:04:17 > 0:04:21I wanted to find out how Cheryl learned her killer moves, like this.

0:04:21 > 0:04:25So I've come to her old dance school for all the goss.

0:04:28 > 0:04:31Change feet... One, two, three...

0:04:31 > 0:04:33These fancy feet belong to Michael,

0:04:33 > 0:04:36who used to actually teach Cheryl when she was 11.

0:04:36 > 0:04:40# I don't need a parachute, baby if I've got you... #

0:04:40 > 0:04:42She's been putting the skills she learned here to good use

0:04:42 > 0:04:44in her pop videos.

0:04:44 > 0:04:47# You're going to catch me, you're going to catch me... #

0:04:47 > 0:04:49Ooh, nice moves, Chezzer!

0:04:49 > 0:04:52What was your initial reaction when you first met Cheryl?

0:04:52 > 0:04:53Very keen to learn.

0:04:53 > 0:04:56And it was obvious from the beginning that she had talent.

0:04:56 > 0:04:57It always takes a lot of hard work.

0:04:57 > 0:04:59It's a thing you can't teach, talent.

0:04:59 > 0:05:02It's either there or it's not. You can't put it there.

0:05:02 > 0:05:03You just have to try and bring it out.

0:05:03 > 0:05:06# You're going to catch if I fall... #

0:05:06 > 0:05:09Cheryl makes it look so easy.

0:05:09 > 0:05:11- Time for my go.- It's good.

0:05:11 > 0:05:14Cheryl obviously sings and does these dance moves.

0:05:14 > 0:05:16Is that quite hard?

0:05:16 > 0:05:19Yes, because you have to concentrate on two things at once.

0:05:19 > 0:05:22I know, I'm struggling to ask you questions and do these dance moves!

0:05:22 > 0:05:24I don't know how she sings and does them.

0:05:24 > 0:05:26She must be amazing.

0:05:26 > 0:05:28'Michael, what a mover!'

0:05:31 > 0:05:34Cheryl, you had an awesome teacher.

0:05:34 > 0:05:37Take two Ambo points for learning those elegant moves.

0:05:37 > 0:05:40So, Cheryl Tweedy could dance, wasn't afraid of the limelight

0:05:40 > 0:05:42and turns out she could bust a tune, too.

0:05:42 > 0:05:45Sounds a little bit familiar. So, when one of her teachers

0:05:45 > 0:05:48heard her singing and told her she had talent,

0:05:48 > 0:05:51Cheryl made up her mind that pop music was her way to fame.

0:05:51 > 0:05:54So, at age 19, she entered a new TV talent show

0:05:54 > 0:05:57called Popstars: The Rivals. Nice move, Cheryl.

0:05:57 > 0:05:59# Bap bap doo-wah! #

0:05:59 > 0:06:04Back in 2002, Popstars: The Rivals was a TV singing show

0:06:04 > 0:06:08which set out to create one girl band and one boy band.

0:06:08 > 0:06:12And the usual mixed bag of talent turned up for auditions.

0:06:12 > 0:06:13Next!

0:06:13 > 0:06:16Amongst the wannabes was a nervous Cheryl Tweedy.

0:06:16 > 0:06:20- Shall I stand here? - 786, you're Cheryl?- Yeah.

0:06:20 > 0:06:23- Tweedy. Where are you from? - Newcastle.

0:06:23 > 0:06:28SHE SINGS: # Tell me, have you ever loved and lost somebody?

0:06:28 > 0:06:32# Wished there was a chance to say I'm sorry

0:06:32 > 0:06:34# I should know... #

0:06:34 > 0:06:37We have to put her through. We have to!

0:06:37 > 0:06:39- We'll see you back in London. - OK.

0:06:39 > 0:06:42- OK?- Thanks very much.- Thank you. - GERI:- Gorgeous!

0:06:43 > 0:06:45Cheryl made it through to the live shows.

0:06:45 > 0:06:50# Baby, now that I found you I can't let you go... #

0:06:50 > 0:06:53Her singing was great.

0:06:53 > 0:06:55# I need you so... #

0:06:55 > 0:06:57Her dancing? Yeah, it was good.

0:06:57 > 0:07:01# You don't need me You don't need me... #

0:07:01 > 0:07:03And Britain fell in love with her.

0:07:06 > 0:07:10And, in an incredibly tense finale, she won a place in the group.

0:07:11 > 0:07:14The first member of the band is...

0:07:16 > 0:07:17..Cheryl!

0:07:18 > 0:07:21Come on! SHE SCREAMS

0:07:22 > 0:07:25# The sound of the underground

0:07:25 > 0:07:27# The beat of the drum goes round and round... #

0:07:27 > 0:07:30Cheryl and the band became Girls Aloud.

0:07:30 > 0:07:32They released Sound Of The Underground,

0:07:32 > 0:07:35which went on to outsell the rival boys' song

0:07:35 > 0:07:36and storm to number one.

0:07:39 > 0:07:43And that earned Cheryl three chart-topping Ambo points.

0:07:43 > 0:07:46But that was just the start.

0:07:46 > 0:07:48Meanwhile, down the road in Sheffield...

0:07:52 > 0:07:56..four Yorkshire lads who called themselves the Arctic Monkeys

0:07:56 > 0:07:58were starting to make a big name for themselves.

0:08:01 > 0:08:05This is High Green, a quiet corner of Sheffield,

0:08:05 > 0:08:09but back in 2001 it was about to get a whole lot louder

0:08:09 > 0:08:12when four poor teenagers decided to form a band.

0:08:12 > 0:08:14Little did they know it would go on to become

0:08:14 > 0:08:17one of the greatest British rock bands of all time.

0:08:17 > 0:08:19This is how it all happened.

0:08:20 > 0:08:22# I bet that you look good on the dance floor

0:08:22 > 0:08:25# I don't know if you're looking for romance or...

0:08:25 > 0:08:27# I don't know it you're looking for

0:08:28 > 0:08:29# I said I bet... #

0:08:29 > 0:08:33Like many bands, the Arctic Monkeys started out as a group of mates.

0:08:33 > 0:08:39Alex, Jamie, Andy and Matt who fancied being rock stars.

0:08:39 > 0:08:41Alex and Jamie got guitars for Christmas,

0:08:41 > 0:08:42Andy had a bass guitar

0:08:42 > 0:08:46and Matt's mum bought him a £200 drum kit.

0:08:46 > 0:08:49They had a band, they had a name - Arctic Monkeys,

0:08:49 > 0:08:50but they had one problem,

0:08:50 > 0:08:53none of them could actually play their instruments

0:08:53 > 0:08:55and no-one wanted to be the lead singer.

0:09:00 > 0:09:03# Fake tales of San Francisco echo... #

0:09:03 > 0:09:05After a bit of persuading, Alex took to the mic

0:09:05 > 0:09:07and the lads locked themselves away

0:09:07 > 0:09:09for a couple of years of serious practising.

0:09:12 > 0:09:15By 2003, they had written some songs and decided

0:09:15 > 0:09:18it was time for the world to see the Arctic monkeys play live.

0:09:19 > 0:09:22Their first gig, which took place at a pub in Sheffield,

0:09:22 > 0:09:26earned them the princely sum of £27.

0:09:26 > 0:09:28You're hardly millionaires, lads,

0:09:28 > 0:09:30but take two Ambo points

0:09:30 > 0:09:32for earning your first dough.

0:09:32 > 0:09:34# Kick me out, kick me out. #

0:09:34 > 0:09:35The Arctics had arrived

0:09:35 > 0:09:38but they were hardly taking the world by storm.

0:09:38 > 0:09:40What the boys desperately needed

0:09:40 > 0:09:44was a way of getting their music out to a much wider audience.

0:09:44 > 0:09:46The band saved up until they could afford some studio time.

0:09:46 > 0:09:50And it was right here that the first Arctic Monkeys record was made,

0:09:50 > 0:09:52and I'm about to meet the man who made it all happen.

0:09:52 > 0:09:54So keen.

0:10:01 > 0:10:05Alan was the first producer the Arctic Monkeys ever worked with.

0:10:05 > 0:10:06Legend.

0:10:06 > 0:10:10Take us back to 2003 when they were just emerging in Sheffield.

0:10:10 > 0:10:12What was the buzz about them around town?

0:10:12 > 0:10:14At that point, nothing.

0:10:14 > 0:10:15No-one knew.

0:10:15 > 0:10:19I went to see their second gig in The Boardwalk in Sheffield

0:10:19 > 0:10:21and there was only 15 people there.

0:10:21 > 0:10:22- 15 people?- Yeah.

0:10:22 > 0:10:25And what was your first impression when you saw them performing?

0:10:25 > 0:10:27- They were a shambles.- Really?

0:10:27 > 0:10:31Utter shambles but a really beautiful shambles to watch.

0:10:33 > 0:10:37The lads came to Alan's studio to record what's known as a demo,

0:10:37 > 0:10:39a collection of songs bands show to record labels

0:10:39 > 0:10:41in the hope they'll get signed.

0:10:41 > 0:10:43They were only 17.

0:10:43 > 0:10:46They were giddy about being in the studio and they were excited.

0:10:46 > 0:10:48So, the moment he started singing

0:10:48 > 0:10:50I was completely hooked into it.

0:10:50 > 0:10:52And then I heard the words. Cos the words were incredible.

0:10:52 > 0:10:55So, after they recorded their demos, what happened then?

0:10:55 > 0:10:58All their mates were saying "No, it's really good.

0:10:58 > 0:11:01"Let's just give it away to people."

0:11:01 > 0:11:02- Just hand it out?- Yeah.

0:11:02 > 0:11:04But then someone else who knew...

0:11:04 > 0:11:08It was a mate, he said, "I'm going to stick it on the internet."

0:11:09 > 0:11:10Lads, take two Ambo points

0:11:10 > 0:11:13for recording your first record.

0:11:16 > 0:11:21Back in 2003, sharing music online was a very new idea

0:11:21 > 0:11:24but the Arctic Monkeys fans were ahead of the game.

0:11:24 > 0:11:28Word spread about how awesome they were and the band went viral.

0:11:28 > 0:11:30# The said it changes when the sun goes down

0:11:30 > 0:11:32# Around here... #

0:11:32 > 0:11:34I remember like getting the first single

0:11:34 > 0:11:36and going to my friend's, burning it off...

0:11:36 > 0:11:37Probably not allowed to do that.

0:11:37 > 0:11:39..and giving it to everybody I could and just going,

0:11:39 > 0:11:41"Listen to this, this is the band

0:11:41 > 0:11:43"that's going to define our generation."

0:11:43 > 0:11:45# They said it changes when the sun goes down... #

0:11:45 > 0:11:47Boys, have three Ambo points

0:11:47 > 0:11:49for gaining a massive fan base.

0:11:51 > 0:11:53In under a year,

0:11:53 > 0:11:55hard work and talent had seen the Arctics move

0:11:55 > 0:11:58from gigging in front of mates in a pub

0:11:58 > 0:12:02to performing to packed-out crowds across the UK.

0:12:02 > 0:12:05And not only that, they hadn't even released a proper album yet.

0:12:05 > 0:12:09The Arctics set that straight in January, 2006,

0:12:09 > 0:12:12when Whatever You Say I Am, That's What I'm Not came out.

0:12:12 > 0:12:16And it became the fastest selling debut album in British history.

0:12:16 > 0:12:18# Tonight there'll be some love. #

0:12:19 > 0:12:21Take three Ambo points

0:12:21 > 0:12:22for an awesome debut.

0:12:22 > 0:12:24The Arctics had arrived.

0:12:24 > 0:12:27Let's take a look at the scores at the end of Round One.

0:12:29 > 0:12:31The Arctic Monkeys lead by ten

0:12:31 > 0:12:33Ambo points to Cheryl's eight,

0:12:33 > 0:12:35but don't write her off yet.

0:12:37 > 0:12:39Now that we know how our stars made it,

0:12:39 > 0:12:42let's check out how hard they've been working since then.

0:12:42 > 0:12:45It's time for Round Two.

0:12:50 > 0:12:53Round Two is all about what our stars have been up to

0:12:53 > 0:12:56to make sure they stay at the top of The Charts.

0:12:56 > 0:12:58First up, it's Cheryl.

0:14:16 > 0:14:19and it's earned them an incredible five,

0:14:19 > 0:14:21yes - five, number one albums.

0:14:28 > 0:14:32And it's not just Ambo points the boys have been collecting.

0:14:32 > 0:14:34There's one thing that sets the Arctic Monkeys aside

0:14:34 > 0:14:36from other bands - awards.

0:14:36 > 0:14:38And these guys have won lots of them.

0:14:55 > 0:14:58So you think they'd be fairly good at acceptance speeches, right?

0:14:59 > 0:15:01Uh-uh.

0:15:01 > 0:15:05# Find a well-known hardman... #

0:15:05 > 0:15:09In 2007, the Arctics couldn't make the Brit Awards,

0:15:09 > 0:15:12so they appeared on the big screen to accept the award

0:15:12 > 0:15:13for Best British Group...

0:15:13 > 0:15:14The Arctic Monkeys!

0:15:51 > 0:15:52Back in Cheryl's world,

0:15:52 > 0:15:56life at Girls Aloud was also red carpet-tastic,

0:15:56 > 0:15:58but Cheryl was ready for a change.

0:15:58 > 0:16:00She wanted to branch out on her own.

0:16:00 > 0:16:04In 2009, when the band were on a break, the opportunity came

0:16:04 > 0:16:07when Cheryl had the chance to sing with one of her idols -

0:16:07 > 0:16:08Will.i.am.

0:16:08 > 0:16:10# I'm a heartbreaker

0:16:10 > 0:16:12# You're a heartbreaker

0:16:21 > 0:16:22All eyes were on her.

0:16:22 > 0:16:25People were wondering if she could succeed after Girls Aloud,

0:16:25 > 0:16:27and to get Will.i.am on her side

0:16:27 > 0:16:30meant she was off to a really good start.

0:16:30 > 0:16:32# We got to fight, fight, fight, fight

0:16:32 > 0:16:33# Fight for this love

0:16:33 > 0:16:36# We got to fight, fight, fight, fight

0:16:36 > 0:16:37# Fight for this love... #

0:16:38 > 0:16:42Cheryl released her debut solo album Three Words in 2009

0:16:42 > 0:16:45and it soared to number one.

0:16:45 > 0:16:47I'm giving Cheryl four solo

0:16:47 > 0:16:49sensational Ambo points.

0:16:50 > 0:16:53# Fight, fight, fight, Fight for this love. #

0:16:53 > 0:16:56And if all this musical superstardom wasn't enough,

0:16:56 > 0:17:01Cheryl's gone from talent show star to queen of the talent show judges,

0:17:01 > 0:17:03taking a seat on The X Factor.

0:17:03 > 0:17:05Cheryl, take two Ambo points for

0:17:05 > 0:17:07keeping Simon in his place.

0:17:07 > 0:17:09# Brian

0:17:09 > 0:17:12# Top marks for not trying

0:17:12 > 0:17:13# So kind of you... #

0:17:13 > 0:17:16So, how has all this hard work affected the Arctic Monkeys

0:17:16 > 0:17:18and Cheryl's record sales?

0:17:19 > 0:17:24# Bringing on the flood of love. #

0:17:24 > 0:17:27Cheryl sold a staggering eight million records

0:17:27 > 0:17:28as part of Girls Aloud,

0:17:28 > 0:17:31but sorry, Chezza, we're only counting solo numbers

0:17:31 > 0:17:33for this Pop Slam.

0:17:33 > 0:17:36On her own she sold a not-to-be-sniffed-at

0:17:36 > 0:17:384.2 million records.

0:17:38 > 0:17:41# I thought I saw you in the parrot's beak

0:17:54 > 0:17:56the Arctics and two to Cheryl.

0:17:56 > 0:17:57Let's check out what this means

0:17:57 > 0:17:58for the scores.

0:18:00 > 0:18:01The Arctic Monkeys

0:18:01 > 0:18:03now have 19 Ambo points

0:18:03 > 0:18:04with Cheryl just

0:18:04 > 0:18:06sneaking ahead on 20.

0:18:06 > 0:18:07So close.

0:18:07 > 0:18:09Don't agree with me? You know what to do.

0:18:09 > 0:18:11Get online and have your say.

0:18:15 > 0:18:19We've seen our stars' pop potential and how hard they've worked at it

0:18:19 > 0:18:22but now that they've reached the dizzy heights of superstardom,

0:18:22 > 0:18:24let's see how glamorously outrageous they have become.

0:18:24 > 0:18:26Round Three, what you got?

0:18:31 > 0:18:33Round Three - Pop Style,

0:18:33 > 0:18:35is all about our celebrities' lives.

0:18:35 > 0:18:40Clothes, cars, pets or whatever else they choose to splash their cash on.

0:18:41 > 0:18:44Both Cheryl and the Arctics come from pretty humble backgrounds,

0:18:44 > 0:18:46but now that they're at the top of the musical tree

0:18:46 > 0:18:49how has fame changed our stars?

0:18:49 > 0:18:51I'm guessing for the better.

0:18:51 > 0:18:54# Brooklyn move my soul like this

0:18:54 > 0:18:55# Kissing my stilettos... #

0:18:55 > 0:18:58The Cheryl we met in 2002 on Popstars

0:18:58 > 0:19:01is hardly the glamorous Cheryl we know today.

0:19:02 > 0:19:05Hair done, nails done, even teeth done.

0:19:05 > 0:19:08We're talking major transformation.

0:19:08 > 0:19:10I'm about to meet the guy who makes sure Chezza

0:19:10 > 0:19:12really stands out on the red carpet.

0:19:19 > 0:19:22Cheryl's always been, um, really into streetwear.

0:19:22 > 0:19:25So she used to wear the kind of sportswear and things

0:19:25 > 0:19:27that she'd wear like around the house.

0:19:27 > 0:19:30I know, it would literally look like she'd just done a work out.

0:19:30 > 0:19:32Exactly, but she slowly like brought that then

0:19:32 > 0:19:36into what she can wear sort of day-to-day now

0:19:36 > 0:19:39with being papped in an airport and look sensational.

0:19:39 > 0:19:41She's quite different, isn't she, from the music videos to then

0:19:41 > 0:19:43when she's on the red carpet and to I imagine

0:19:43 > 0:19:46when she's in her personal life, she's probably really chilled?

0:19:46 > 0:19:48- Yeah, absolutely. - She is really distinct.

0:19:48 > 0:19:49But I think it's really important

0:19:49 > 0:19:51because each of those things you mentioned,

0:19:51 > 0:19:54you would dress differently for. Like, you'd never wear

0:19:54 > 0:19:57one of those gowns if you were lying on the sofa watching telly or...

0:19:57 > 0:20:00If I had access to one of those gowns maybe I would.

0:20:00 > 0:20:02So, that's Cheryl sort of day-to-day

0:20:02 > 0:20:05but what about her super-glam music videos? Can you help me out?

0:20:05 > 0:20:07Well, I looked after Cheryl for The Promise video

0:20:07 > 0:20:09with the rest of Girls Aloud.

0:20:09 > 0:20:12# You're going to make me, make me love you

0:20:12 > 0:20:14# Nothing at all, nothing that I do

0:20:14 > 0:20:17# Promise I made, promise I made

0:20:17 > 0:20:19# Starting to fade, starting to fade, babe. #

0:20:19 > 0:20:22Frank was given the majorly-exciting job

0:20:22 > 0:20:26of styling Cheryl in the 2008 Girls Aloud video The Promise.

0:20:26 > 0:20:30And he's got a real treat for me. So keen.

0:20:30 > 0:20:33- We've got the dress here from the video.- Oh, no way.

0:20:33 > 0:20:36- Is this the actual dress? - The actual dress. Super sparkly.

0:20:36 > 0:20:37She touched it.

0:20:37 > 0:20:40- Can I actually put it on? - Yeah, course.

0:20:40 > 0:20:41So keen.

0:20:41 > 0:20:43# I can't play this like I'm meant to now

0:20:43 > 0:20:46# My Aladdin's lamp is down... #

0:20:46 > 0:20:49Cheryl looks amazing in the dress.

0:20:49 > 0:20:52I can't believe I'm going to get to wear it.

0:20:52 > 0:20:54Whoo, come on, shuffle along.

0:20:54 > 0:20:57Who am I? Who am I? Wait for it. Wait for it.

0:20:57 > 0:20:59# Promise I made, promise I made

0:20:59 > 0:21:01# Starting to fade, starting to fade. #

0:21:01 > 0:21:02You're looking fantastic

0:21:02 > 0:21:04but I don't think Cheryl would have worn those socks with it.

0:21:08 > 0:21:09Nothing of it. Bring it in here.

0:21:12 > 0:21:14# Cos you're going to make... #

0:21:14 > 0:21:15Cheryl takes three Ambo points

0:21:15 > 0:21:17for rocking a Hollywood style,

0:21:17 > 0:21:20but hold up, what about the Arctic Monkeys' look?

0:21:24 > 0:21:28# From the bottom of your heart. #

0:21:28 > 0:21:31When we first met the lads they were awkward indie kids,

0:21:31 > 0:21:33but over the years we've watched them

0:21:33 > 0:21:36morph into rock'n'roll royalty.

0:21:36 > 0:21:38When the boys started out and they were in Sheffield,

0:21:38 > 0:21:41they very much had their own image

0:21:41 > 0:21:44and now they've had a bit of an image overhaul

0:21:44 > 0:21:47but it's all been very cool.

0:21:47 > 0:21:50# Blackout blind. #

0:21:50 > 0:21:53Alex Turner's hair, I mean, that should have its own website.

0:21:53 > 0:21:55I'm sure it probably does. It's just amazing.

0:21:55 > 0:21:58For going all rock'n'roll retro cool

0:21:58 > 0:21:59on us, that's two Ambo points.

0:22:01 > 0:22:05And the Arctics have taken their new look to a whole new continent.

0:22:06 > 0:22:09# One for the road. #

0:22:12 > 0:22:15So you're the biggest rock'n'roll band in Britain,

0:22:15 > 0:22:17you're headlining festivals, you've got number one albums

0:22:17 > 0:22:19performing in front of millions of people,

0:22:19 > 0:22:21what's the next step?

0:22:21 > 0:22:23Ah, you move to LA, buy a big house

0:22:23 > 0:22:25and hang out with all the beautiful people, of course.

0:22:25 > 0:22:29And in 2011, that's exactly what the Arctic Monkeys did.

0:22:29 > 0:22:31It's a pretty long way from Sheffield.

0:22:31 > 0:22:34# Brick by brick. #

0:22:34 > 0:22:37After spending some time touring in the US,

0:22:37 > 0:22:41the lads decided LA was the place to record their fourth album,

0:22:41 > 0:22:44so, naturally, they set up camp in the Hollywood Hills.

0:22:48 > 0:22:50To keep themselves out of trouble,

0:22:50 > 0:22:53the boys rented themselves a modest - not in my words -

0:22:53 > 0:22:55£3 million mansion.

0:22:55 > 0:22:57Let me drop some stats at you.

0:22:57 > 0:23:00It had six bedrooms, eight bathrooms, a pool, a sauna,

0:23:00 > 0:23:03an outdoor kitchen, ooh, and don't forget the library.

0:23:03 > 0:23:04And isn't it right here?

0:23:05 > 0:23:07A-list celebrity LA pad,

0:23:07 > 0:23:08two Ambo points.

0:23:13 > 0:23:16Estate agent Tony has agreed to give me the lowdown

0:23:16 > 0:23:18on this celebrity zip code.

0:23:18 > 0:23:20OK, Tony, we have a situation.

0:23:20 > 0:23:22I am a rock star, I just sold my place in Sheffield

0:23:22 > 0:23:24and I'm looking to move into the area.

0:23:24 > 0:23:29I have got a cool 400,000. What can I start with?

0:23:29 > 0:23:30Unfortunately, Amberley,

0:23:30 > 0:23:33400,000 ain't going to cut it in this neighbourhood.

0:23:33 > 0:23:36Oh, OK. I can maybe stretch it up to about a million.

0:23:37 > 0:23:40You're going to have two stretch it up to at least two million.

0:23:40 > 0:23:41Can you do that?

0:23:41 > 0:23:44I will call my mum and maybe the rest of my entire family

0:23:44 > 0:23:48and my friends and we will network and I'll make it happen.

0:23:48 > 0:23:51But, sell it to me, why do I want to move into this area?

0:23:51 > 0:23:53What kind of people live in here?

0:23:53 > 0:23:55Well, look, you're in Hollywood, California.

0:23:55 > 0:23:58People come from all over the world to make it big.

0:23:58 > 0:24:00What does LA have that Sheffield doesn't?

0:24:00 > 0:24:03Well, we've got everything else you might want if you're a rock star.

0:24:03 > 0:24:04Let me hear it. Let me hear it.

0:24:04 > 0:24:07OK. So we've got all the recording studios you could ever want

0:24:07 > 0:24:08to make your music.

0:24:08 > 0:24:10Then you've got all the nightlife in Hollywood.

0:24:10 > 0:24:12We've got it all, baby.

0:24:12 > 0:24:13Tony, I'm moving to...

0:24:13 > 0:24:15- Where are we? - THEY LAUGH

0:24:15 > 0:24:17The Bird Streets in Hollywood Hills, baby.

0:24:17 > 0:24:18The Bird Streets in Hollywood, baby.

0:24:18 > 0:24:21- Let's go and find me a place. This way?- All right, let's do it.

0:24:21 > 0:24:23# Crawling back to you. #

0:24:23 > 0:24:26Moving stateside has paid off brilliantly for the Arctics

0:24:26 > 0:24:28because their album AM,

0:24:28 > 0:24:32which they recorded in Los Angeles, made it into the American top ten.

0:24:34 > 0:24:38And how do the Arctic Monkeys get to their cool LA recording studios?

0:24:38 > 0:24:41On one of these bad boys of course. Vroom-vroom!

0:24:41 > 0:24:44That's right, the boys collect motorbikes.

0:24:44 > 0:24:46And I thought my stamp collection was cool.

0:24:49 > 0:24:50Transatlantic domination

0:24:50 > 0:24:53gets the lads two Ambo points.

0:24:56 > 0:24:59When it comes to style stakes, the Arctic Monkeys are definitely

0:24:59 > 0:25:00holding their own

0:25:00 > 0:25:03but there's one accessory they can't compete with our Cheryl on,

0:25:03 > 0:25:04and that's her pet Chihuahuas.

0:25:04 > 0:25:07Buster and Coco both have their own Twitter accounts

0:25:07 > 0:25:09with over 6,000 followers.

0:25:09 > 0:25:11Little bit weird. But wait, there's more.

0:25:11 > 0:25:14Cheryl has admitted to actually calling up her dogs

0:25:14 > 0:25:16when she's on tour.

0:25:16 > 0:25:18Now, there's no footage of this actually happening

0:25:18 > 0:25:20but I can imagine how this would go down.

0:25:20 > 0:25:21"Do-do-do-do-do.

0:25:21 > 0:25:23- IN A GEORDIE ACCENT:- "Oh, I'm a bit lonely.

0:25:23 > 0:25:26"I might call Buster up and see what he's up to.

0:25:26 > 0:25:27"Do-do-do-do-do-do-do."

0:25:29 > 0:25:31- GRUFF VOICE:- "Hello."

0:25:31 > 0:25:33"Ooh, Buster.

0:25:33 > 0:25:35"It's me, Mummy.

0:25:35 > 0:25:37"Ah, just wanting to see what you're up to."

0:25:37 > 0:25:39"Nothing much."

0:25:39 > 0:25:41"Have you pooed today?"

0:25:41 > 0:25:42"No."

0:25:42 > 0:25:43"Oh, me neither."

0:25:43 > 0:25:45"I'd better get going."

0:25:45 > 0:25:48"Oh, you've got to get going? Oh, um, OK.

0:25:48 > 0:25:50"Well, you hang up first." "No, you first."

0:25:50 > 0:25:52"No, you hang up first."

0:25:52 > 0:25:55"No, you hang up first." "No, you hang up first."

0:25:55 > 0:25:56Beep-beep-beep.

0:25:56 > 0:25:58"Oh, he hung up on me.

0:25:58 > 0:25:59"Ooh."

0:25:59 > 0:26:04- # So rain on me - # What's the price of thunder? #

0:26:04 > 0:26:06And this slightly odd behaviour wins Cheryl

0:26:06 > 0:26:08two pet-loving Ambo points.

0:26:08 > 0:26:11And that brings us to the end of Round Three.

0:26:14 > 0:26:17We're at the end of Pop Slam and it's been heaps of fun

0:26:17 > 0:26:20but I've still got this bad boy to give away.

0:26:20 > 0:26:21Who has won the Ambo?

0:26:21 > 0:26:24Will it be Cheryl Cole or the Arctic Monkeys?

0:26:24 > 0:26:26SHE HOLDS BREATH

0:26:26 > 0:26:27Let's look back at what we've learnt.

0:26:29 > 0:26:32Cheryl's catchy pop has come up against the all-conquering

0:26:32 > 0:26:34rock of the Arctic Monkeys.

0:26:34 > 0:26:37They've both become epic successes by taking risks

0:26:37 > 0:26:40and keeping their styles cutting edge.

0:26:40 > 0:26:42This Pop Slam couldn't be closer.

0:26:44 > 0:26:49Ladies and gentlemen, it's the moment we've all been waiting for.

0:26:49 > 0:26:52The points have been counted and independently verified by me.

0:26:53 > 0:26:56And the winner of the Ambo is...
