0:00:05 > 0:00:10home to some of the biggest, fastest and deadliest animals on the planet.

0:00:13 > 0:00:16CBBC have brought four British and four South African children

0:00:16 > 0:00:19to spend a month here training to be rookie game rangers.

0:00:19 > 0:00:21Incredible!

0:00:21 > 0:00:24Leading them on this amazing adventure will be their mentors,

0:00:24 > 0:00:26trails ranger Rudi...

0:00:26 > 0:00:28It has taken me years to learn to be a ranger.

0:00:28 > 0:00:31- They've only got one month to do this.- ..And guide Frankie.

0:00:31 > 0:00:34In the African bush, danger can be around any corner.

0:00:34 > 0:00:38So the Safari 8 needs to be alert and has to be ready at any time.

0:00:38 > 0:00:42Eight kids, two mentors and one massive challenge,

0:00:42 > 0:00:46to lead two celebrity guests on a safari experience of a lifetime.

0:01:07 > 0:01:09Last time, the Safari 8 packed up

0:01:09 > 0:01:12and headed to the coast for a well-earned break.

0:01:15 > 0:01:18It was so awesome, the adrenalin was, like, whoa!

0:01:18 > 0:01:22The rookie rangers were all at sea on a whale spotting mission.

0:01:22 > 0:01:23SCREAMING

0:01:23 > 0:01:25I think I'm going to be sick.

0:01:25 > 0:01:27Yaaaay! Yay!

0:01:27 > 0:01:31And the team had to face up to some hard truths in their mid-way reports.

0:01:31 > 0:01:34I'm going to reprimand you a bit now.

0:01:34 > 0:01:37Be very careful what you say, not to hurt another individual.

0:01:37 > 0:01:41Coming up, the Safari 8 spend the day getting back to basics.

0:01:41 > 0:01:45I find it a bit unfair that the boys had to do basically nothing,

0:01:45 > 0:01:46and we had to do all the work.

0:01:46 > 0:01:49It all gets physical in the team challenge.

0:01:49 > 0:01:53- Go, Tomas!- We so want this.

0:01:53 > 0:01:55And, there's tears before bedtime.

0:01:55 > 0:01:58I was speechless, it was so breathtaking the whole thing.

0:02:01 > 0:02:05It's midway through the Safari 8's month long ranger training.

0:02:05 > 0:02:09Our rookie rangers have travelled from Kruger to Rocktail Bay,

0:02:09 > 0:02:14a coastal reserve in KwaZulu Natal, the heartland of the Zulu people.

0:02:14 > 0:02:19Today, mentors Rudi and Frankie are taking the team to a Zulu homestead.

0:02:19 > 0:02:22They're going to step back in time and see how rural villagers lived.

0:02:22 > 0:02:26As a guide or ranger, a lot of your skills actually come from

0:02:26 > 0:02:28traditional Zulus,

0:02:28 > 0:02:31such as hunting as well as tracking.

0:02:31 > 0:02:34And, it looks like most of the nearby community have

0:02:34 > 0:02:36turned up to greet them.

0:02:36 > 0:02:40Zulus are the largest tribe of native Africans in South Africa.

0:02:40 > 0:02:45The word Zulu means "people of heaven".

0:02:45 > 0:02:47SINGING AND CLAPPING

0:02:47 > 0:02:50Their traditional dances celebrate Zulu life

0:02:50 > 0:02:52and tell stories from the past.

0:02:54 > 0:02:58For Safari 8 team members Sifiso and Nomalungelo, it's a chance for the

0:02:58 > 0:03:03rest of the group to learn how their Zulu grandparents used to live.

0:03:03 > 0:03:09It is going to be a place where they can get more knowledge about we did

0:03:09 > 0:03:12long ago, and to know more about our Zulu tradition and culture.

0:03:12 > 0:03:16This Zulu village has been set up to give people a chance to explore

0:03:16 > 0:03:18this ancient way of life.

0:03:18 > 0:03:21It is very exciting to see how happy they were about the place.

0:03:30 > 0:03:33And, after that welcome, the team are starting to feel at home.

0:03:33 > 0:03:37So they head off to check out some traditional Zulu houses.

0:03:37 > 0:03:40How cute. Check the bed.

0:03:40 > 0:03:43Oh, coat hangers.

0:03:43 > 0:03:45This home's a lot different to the home I live in.

0:03:45 > 0:03:48My one's made of bricks and is a lot bigger than this one.

0:03:48 > 0:03:54It's a wee bit more outdoor and more exciting than my house.

0:03:54 > 0:03:58And, once the boys are finally in,

0:03:58 > 0:04:03Sifiso gives them a quick lesson in construction.

0:04:03 > 0:04:07Most of the things are made of natural stuff, as you can see here.

0:04:07 > 0:04:08Even this hut, it's waterproof.

0:04:08 > 0:04:10Water cannot come in.

0:04:10 > 0:04:14The huts are made from woven branches, covered with dried grass.

0:04:14 > 0:04:18It's stunning, the way they've done everything, it's awesome.

0:04:18 > 0:04:21It's fantastic that we've got two people from a Zulu background.

0:04:21 > 0:04:24Because we can ask stuff that we don't understand,

0:04:24 > 0:04:27and they can help us so much more with their tradition.

0:04:27 > 0:04:31The women take the cow dung, and they rub it on the floor.

0:04:31 > 0:04:35And when you look at it, it becomes beautiful and new, because it's now

0:04:35 > 0:04:37smooth and there are no cracks on the floor.

0:04:37 > 0:04:41Nomalungelo showed us all the different things, like the mats and

0:04:41 > 0:04:45animal skins, and how they actually built the foundation of the hut.

0:04:45 > 0:04:46And it was really interesting,

0:04:46 > 0:04:49especially since she's a part of the Zulu culture.

0:04:49 > 0:04:53But for Tomas, it's not the hut that's got his attention.

0:04:53 > 0:04:57What is that one, what is that one? Urgh, it's a spider!

0:04:57 > 0:04:59- What is it? - It's just a normal spider.

0:04:59 > 0:05:02That's what you need to get used to, you're in the bush.

0:05:02 > 0:05:04And the bugs aren't the only thing bothering him.

0:05:04 > 0:05:07For a start, the floor was made out of cow's poo.

0:05:07 > 0:05:12It's open to snakes and spiders. And there's the holes in the wall

0:05:12 > 0:05:14which means the rain can get in. It looks really dark.

0:05:14 > 0:05:16I'm not a caveman.

0:05:16 > 0:05:19For 13-year-old gadget lover Tomas from Wales, the sleeping

0:05:19 > 0:05:23arrangements on this trip have never been to his taste.

0:05:23 > 0:05:26I really want air conditioning in the next place, because I am

0:05:26 > 0:05:28sweating like a dog in bed.

0:05:28 > 0:05:29I've never been camping before.

0:05:29 > 0:05:31I don't really like sleeping close to someone.

0:05:31 > 0:05:33I don't like it because I like my space.

0:05:33 > 0:05:35I suppose you have to get over it.

0:05:40 > 0:05:43Guys, you've seen the Zulu hut, you've seen everything,

0:05:43 > 0:05:44- so what do you think? Tomas?- Yeah.

0:05:44 > 0:05:48I thought it would be bigger but I suppose you only come in to sleep.

0:05:48 > 0:05:51Come on. If this was ancient times, people would live in this place.

0:05:51 > 0:05:53They're trying to show us,

0:05:53 > 0:05:56the people from outside, how the Zulu people lived.

0:05:56 > 0:05:59And Tomas's attitude isn't impressing Sifiso.

0:05:59 > 0:06:01Tomas didn't like the place.

0:06:01 > 0:06:05He said he wasn't sleeping in there because of snakes and spiders.

0:06:05 > 0:06:09But I think he would, like, take a step forward and try to sleep

0:06:09 > 0:06:12in there, because I think it's going to be OK, it's going to be fun.

0:06:15 > 0:06:18The Safari 8 aren't here just to look around.

0:06:18 > 0:06:21Zulu men and women have very different roles in the village,

0:06:21 > 0:06:23and local guides Gibson

0:06:23 > 0:06:27and Nelly are here to give the team a taste of this ancient way of life.

0:06:27 > 0:06:31What we are going to do next, we're going to divide you into

0:06:31 > 0:06:34two teams to learn from the traditions of the Zulu people.

0:06:34 > 0:06:36The boys are going with Gibson.

0:06:36 > 0:06:40Gibson over there is a master spear thrower.

0:06:40 > 0:06:43So he's going to teach you guys to throw the spear.

0:06:43 > 0:06:45The girls are going with Nelly.

0:06:45 > 0:06:48Nelly is going to take you guys, and she's going to teach you a bit about

0:06:48 > 0:06:52the woman's role in a Zulu village.

0:06:52 > 0:06:54- All right. You guys all excited? - Yeah.

0:06:54 > 0:06:59I can even see a smile from you, Tomas.

0:06:59 > 0:07:04Even for modern Zulu women like Nelly, the work is never done.

0:07:04 > 0:07:07Most of the time is spent doing domestic chores like cooking,

0:07:07 > 0:07:09laundry and fetching water.

0:07:09 > 0:07:12It's a world away from what the girls are used to.

0:07:12 > 0:07:15- Is this the stuff you have to do every day?- Yes.

0:07:15 > 0:07:18In the morning, and in the afternoon.

0:07:18 > 0:07:22And, it's not just a case of turning on the tap.

0:07:22 > 0:07:26So, it's off to use the neighbour's well.

0:07:27 > 0:07:31By turning the wheel, water is drawn up to the surface.

0:07:37 > 0:07:40- Time for some girl power. - It's really really hard.

0:07:40 > 0:07:43It's kind of heavy as you turn it.

0:07:43 > 0:07:46It actually makes me appreciate water more.

0:07:46 > 0:07:51This is where, if you had to do this every day for the rest of your life,

0:07:51 > 0:07:53you would have mega muscles. Yes!

0:07:59 > 0:08:01Once full, they've got to get the water home,

0:08:01 > 0:08:03and that's a bit of a balancing act.

0:08:03 > 0:08:06You are going to walk with it?

0:08:06 > 0:08:09THEY LAUGH

0:08:12 > 0:08:14- Just hold it.- Whoa!

0:08:14 > 0:08:19It's going to squash my head, take it off. I am not letting go of it.

0:08:19 > 0:08:22- Should I take it out down? - Yeah, take it off.

0:08:22 > 0:08:25SHE SQUEALS

0:08:25 > 0:08:28What if it falls?

0:08:31 > 0:08:35One, two, three. Woo!

0:08:35 > 0:08:37I was the only one who could balance the water on my head.

0:08:37 > 0:08:40It was like, it's the thing that I've always

0:08:40 > 0:08:43done when I go to my grandma's house, it's something I'm used to.

0:08:43 > 0:08:47But at the same time it was kind of hard, because it was heavy.

0:08:50 > 0:08:54But, for the boys, Zulu life is proving less of a headache.

0:08:54 > 0:08:57- Ready?- Yeah, baby.

0:08:57 > 0:08:58And, local guide Gibson gives

0:08:58 > 0:09:01our would-be warriors a traditional spear throwing class.

0:09:03 > 0:09:04THEY GROAN

0:09:04 > 0:09:06Do it slowly.

0:09:06 > 0:09:10And, instead of an animal to spear,

0:09:10 > 0:09:12they've got a vegetable.

0:09:12 > 0:09:15For sports mad Manya, this should be no problem.

0:09:15 > 0:09:19Manya, Manya! Oh!

0:09:19 > 0:09:22I thought, since it was quite close, it would be so easy just to

0:09:22 > 0:09:26throw a spear into it, but it was actually really really difficult

0:09:26 > 0:09:28to get it perfectly accurate.

0:09:28 > 0:09:30CHANTING: Sifiso, Sifiso, Sifiso.

0:09:30 > 0:09:31Ah!

0:09:31 > 0:09:35As a Zulu man, I thought I was going to do well.

0:09:35 > 0:09:38Maybe if I had practised more and more, I could do it better.

0:09:38 > 0:09:44The target keeps on getting away. So Gibson tries a different approach.

0:09:44 > 0:09:48I'll give you these two, and see how you guys do it, yeah.

0:09:49 > 0:09:53The turnips' days are numbered.

0:09:53 > 0:09:59- Yes!- And, with dinner in the bag, the boys' work is done for the day.

0:10:01 > 0:10:04The girls on the other hand are still busy with their chores.

0:10:04 > 0:10:08What we're going to do now is collect the firewood.

0:10:08 > 0:10:12But carrying the wood home can be a bit of an armful.

0:10:12 > 0:10:13You take some.

0:10:13 > 0:10:17So the Zulus have come up with an ingenious solution.

0:10:17 > 0:10:21This one, this is very very strong, can you see?

0:10:21 > 0:10:23- So it is.- Yeah.

0:10:23 > 0:10:27- You wrap it round your wood. - Using nature's string.

0:10:27 > 0:10:29So now I can just tie it like that.

0:10:29 > 0:10:34Put it on your head is the lady's way, put everything on the head.

0:10:34 > 0:10:37With nothing else to do, tabla drummer Kushal

0:10:37 > 0:10:41entertains the boys while they kick back and relax.

0:10:41 > 0:10:45But all this free time seems to have gone to the boys' heads.

0:10:45 > 0:10:47I think the girls are going to be really jealous,

0:10:47 > 0:10:50bending their backs, hurting their backs picking up cabbage.

0:10:50 > 0:10:53And after we've been having fun, they have to make our food for us.

0:10:53 > 0:10:56I think it's going to be really cool.

0:10:56 > 0:10:59I'm really pleased that the boys are getting to throw spears,

0:10:59 > 0:11:01and the girls have to cook food.

0:11:01 > 0:11:04Because boys have got more power, and they can throw spears.

0:11:04 > 0:11:07And the girls, they're going to cook things.

0:11:07 > 0:11:09I wouldn't let the girls hear you say that, Tomas, as they've

0:11:09 > 0:11:14got another back-breaking task ahead of them, preparing the maize meal.

0:11:17 > 0:11:19And, for fiercely independent Caroline,

0:11:19 > 0:11:22it all seems a little one-sided.

0:11:22 > 0:11:26I find it a bit unfair that the boys had to do basically nothing, and we

0:11:26 > 0:11:30had to do all the work. I mean, the boys are sitting there making drums.

0:11:30 > 0:11:33Probably the hardest thing they've had to do was walk from one chair to

0:11:33 > 0:11:35the other, to play a different drum.

0:11:35 > 0:11:38But the maize isn't going to crush itself.

0:11:47 > 0:11:49We've been doing this for ages, right.

0:11:49 > 0:11:51This is what it was to begin with.

0:11:51 > 0:11:53And this is what it was, about, like, loads and loads and

0:11:53 > 0:11:55loads of work put into it later.

0:11:55 > 0:11:57There's no change at all.

0:11:57 > 0:12:00And I feel we're going to be at this for hours and hours.

0:12:00 > 0:12:03And I don't even think that they're going to appreciate it.

0:12:03 > 0:12:05If they don't appreciate it, I'll be very upset.

0:12:05 > 0:12:08We'll go on strike if they don't eat it, and then they

0:12:08 > 0:12:12won't eat anything at all, so they'd better appreciate it. High five.

0:12:14 > 0:12:17Still to come: The gloves are off

0:12:17 > 0:12:22as the girls take on the boys in the ultimate battle of the sexes.

0:12:22 > 0:12:24MOOING NOISES

0:12:24 > 0:12:28Rudi and Frankie make a shock announcement that changes everything.

0:12:28 > 0:12:30You're all going to have a specific goal.

0:12:30 > 0:12:34And the team return to Kruger where there's a big surprise waiting.

0:12:34 > 0:12:38When I first saw him, I was like in tears, and I was like, "Oh, my!"

0:12:42 > 0:12:44It's challenge time. The Safari 8 have spent the day

0:12:44 > 0:12:50getting stuck into Zulu life, so what better than a Zulu dance off?

0:12:50 > 0:12:52SINGING

0:12:52 > 0:12:54We're going to divide you in two teams again,

0:12:54 > 0:12:57- so it's girls against boys.- Oh yes!

0:12:57 > 0:12:58For a reward and a forfeit.

0:12:58 > 0:13:01CHEERING

0:13:01 > 0:13:04If you look down to there, there's a cow shed.

0:13:04 > 0:13:08The losers will be sleeping in that square cow shed tonight.

0:13:08 > 0:13:13And the winners will get one of these luxury huts

0:13:13 > 0:13:15- to sleep in tonight. - CHEERING

0:13:15 > 0:13:18So, guys, get cracking.

0:13:18 > 0:13:23Looking the part, the teams have until sundown to practise.

0:13:23 > 0:13:25And, luckily for them, some local children

0:13:25 > 0:13:27are here to show them how it's done.

0:13:27 > 0:13:30Boys go with boys, they're going to teach you how to dance.

0:13:30 > 0:13:32And the girls go with the girls. Off you go.

0:13:32 > 0:13:36While the boys master the steps of the ancient warriors...

0:13:36 > 0:13:40the girls practise the maidens' dance because no one wants

0:13:40 > 0:13:43to lose this challenge.

0:13:44 > 0:13:47The last time the girls and boys went head-to-head in a

0:13:47 > 0:13:49team challenge...

0:13:53 > 0:13:57The girls crept into the lead to claim victory.

0:14:02 > 0:14:05And first to perform in the dance-off, it's the girls.

0:14:05 > 0:14:08Will they be able to continue their winning streak, leaving

0:14:08 > 0:14:11the boys out in the cold of the cow shed?

0:14:11 > 0:14:15Joining the mentors as judges are Gibson and Nelly.

0:14:15 > 0:14:18SINGING

0:14:18 > 0:14:22Dressed to impress with seed pods around their ankles and necklaces,

0:14:22 > 0:14:23the girls put on a great show.

0:14:23 > 0:14:27SINGING AND CLAPPING

0:14:31 > 0:14:35SINGING

0:14:35 > 0:14:37CHEERING AND CLAPPING

0:14:41 > 0:14:45The boys may look the part, but can they top that?

0:14:45 > 0:14:47The girls are feeling confident.

0:14:47 > 0:14:50We so want this.

0:14:50 > 0:14:54DRUM BEATS Go, Tomas!

0:14:54 > 0:14:58There's no way Tomas is spending the night in the cow shed,

0:14:58 > 0:15:00so he gives it his all.

0:15:00 > 0:15:01WHOOPING

0:15:08 > 0:15:11But, have the boys done enough to win over the judges?

0:15:11 > 0:15:16- Only one team can win. - They put in a big effort for this.- .

0:15:16 > 0:15:19At stake, a night of Zulu luxury.

0:15:19 > 0:15:23- The boys, they did very well. - It's a close call.

0:15:23 > 0:15:25- The girls also did really well.- Yes.

0:15:25 > 0:15:27And the results are in.

0:15:27 > 0:15:31It was a very difficult decision between the ladies and gentlemen.

0:15:31 > 0:15:34But I think for the effort

0:15:34 > 0:15:39that the boys put in, we are making them victorious.

0:15:39 > 0:15:41CHEERING

0:15:41 > 0:15:47OK. You are going to sleep tonight in the cow shed.

0:15:47 > 0:15:49THE BOYS MOO

0:15:49 > 0:15:52But at least the goals can see the funny side.

0:15:52 > 0:15:55I'm excited for the cow shed, I don't really mind sleeping in...

0:15:55 > 0:15:57the cows' area.

0:15:57 > 0:16:01- THE GIRLS GIGGLE - Liar!

0:16:01 > 0:16:04The boys, luxury. THEY CHEER

0:16:04 > 0:16:07The girls have to sleep in the cow shed, unfortunately. It just shows

0:16:07 > 0:16:11they weren't up to scratch when it comes to the dancing, the boys were.

0:16:11 > 0:16:15If we had carried on, I promise you, we would have won the whole thing.

0:16:15 > 0:16:19We should be in the luxury home, and I really want to hear Caroline

0:16:19 > 0:16:22screaming tonight when she sees an ant on the floor.

0:16:30 > 0:16:33So the team have mastered the dancing. Now Nomalungelo

0:16:33 > 0:16:37wants to see how they handle a little Zulu tongue twister.

0:16:37 > 0:16:40SHE SPEAKS ZULU

0:16:40 > 0:16:41What?!

0:16:41 > 0:16:43What does it mean in English?

0:16:43 > 0:16:47It means he is sleeping on the African maize,

0:16:47 > 0:16:50thinking of himself holding a spear.

0:16:50 > 0:16:55SHE SPEAKS, AND THEY TRY TO REPEAT

0:16:55 > 0:16:57Zulu is one of 11 official

0:16:57 > 0:17:02languages in South Africa, and is spoken by over nine million people.

0:17:02 > 0:17:08Its distinct tongue clicking makes it a real mouthful for the novice.

0:17:08 > 0:17:12SHE TRIES TO SPEAK ZULU

0:17:12 > 0:17:14TOMAS SPEAKS ZULU LAUGHTER

0:17:15 > 0:17:18HE SPEAKS ZULU

0:17:18 > 0:17:22THEY ATTEMPT TO SPEAK ZULU LAUGHTER

0:17:22 > 0:17:25But it's not long before the team are down with the lingo.

0:17:25 > 0:17:27HE SPEAKS ZULU FLUENTLY

0:17:27 > 0:17:32THEY SPEAK ZULU CORRECTLY

0:17:32 > 0:17:35APPLAUSE Yeah!

0:17:35 > 0:17:37- Spoken like a true Zulu woman.- Yeah!

0:17:39 > 0:17:42Time for bed and, as the girls lost the challenge,

0:17:42 > 0:17:44it's off to the cow shed.

0:17:44 > 0:17:46- Goodness gracious me.- I like it.

0:17:46 > 0:17:48Right, people, let's get ready.

0:17:48 > 0:17:50Because we're all going to be together, so it's fine.

0:17:50 > 0:17:54But it's just, Caroline is going to go crazy. We probably won't even

0:17:54 > 0:17:59get to sleep because she's going to be going, "Ant! Bug! No!"

0:17:59 > 0:18:03And Caroline's dislike of these wee beasties is starting to wear thin

0:18:03 > 0:18:05with the other girls.

0:18:05 > 0:18:07Cas, you have to get over it, seriously.

0:18:07 > 0:18:10It's a disgusting little bug that pushes poo, how can you like that?

0:18:10 > 0:18:12Cas!

0:18:12 > 0:18:15Caroline may champion equal rights for all,

0:18:15 > 0:18:18but sadly that doesn't include bugs.

0:18:18 > 0:18:20SHE SCREAMS

0:18:20 > 0:18:24They are everywhere, in my tent, in my sleeping bag.

0:18:24 > 0:18:27I'm not sleeping here. I don't like it, and I liked it where we were.

0:18:27 > 0:18:30I can't touch the ground.

0:18:30 > 0:18:33I just took another bug off.

0:18:33 > 0:18:36Oh... It doesn't help.

0:18:36 > 0:18:40But unfortunately for Caroline, the bugs aren't going anywhere.

0:18:40 > 0:18:42- It's just bugs.- Cas!

0:18:42 > 0:18:44I don't like them, I can't help it.

0:18:44 > 0:18:47Shouting at me doesn't make it any easier.

0:18:47 > 0:18:50I don't think I'll be able to sleep that easily tonight.

0:18:50 > 0:18:52I think I might be awake for a while or two.

0:18:52 > 0:18:55I mean, I've just seen massive bugs.

0:18:57 > 0:19:00I don't like bugs.

0:19:00 > 0:19:03Across the village, the boys have got a five-star night ahead of them.

0:19:03 > 0:19:07Whoa? That is so class.

0:19:07 > 0:19:09This is one seriously cool Zulu crib.

0:19:09 > 0:19:11Look at this house, it's a pimped Zulu house.

0:19:11 > 0:19:15- It's all very comfortable. - And even home boy Tomas is happy.

0:19:15 > 0:19:18- Feel the pillow.- Oh!

0:19:26 > 0:19:29It's the final morning on the coast.

0:19:32 > 0:19:35And how did the boys enjoy their night of Zulu luxury?

0:19:35 > 0:19:38My sleep last night was really really good.

0:19:38 > 0:19:43The pillows are really comfy and the bed is really comfy.

0:19:43 > 0:19:48And I will apologise to whoever I was saying that this is horrible.

0:19:48 > 0:19:51Cos it is absolutely lovely and I wouldn't mind staying here

0:19:51 > 0:19:53for the rest of the two weeks.

0:19:53 > 0:19:59I like it when he enjoys our Zulu culture and our house.

0:19:59 > 0:20:02The way the Zulu people used to live.

0:20:02 > 0:20:05So, I'm happy that he's happy.

0:20:05 > 0:20:07Across in the cow shed,

0:20:07 > 0:20:10was it sweet dreams for Caroline, or a beastie nightmare?

0:20:10 > 0:20:14I didn't sleep very well last night, because I think I fell asleep first.

0:20:14 > 0:20:18But then I woke up really early.

0:20:18 > 0:20:21And I swear that little millipede thing came back in again,

0:20:21 > 0:20:24because I could hear loads of tiny little legs.

0:20:24 > 0:20:28When it came back, I wasn't sure if anything had crawled into my bag,

0:20:28 > 0:20:30so I couldn't go back in it and I had to sit like this.

0:20:30 > 0:20:32I didn't mean to, but I chucked a spider on your pillow.

0:20:32 > 0:20:34It was dead, though.

0:20:34 > 0:20:37Because I found it in my bag.

0:20:37 > 0:20:41- Did you kill it? - No. Well, I must have squished it.

0:20:44 > 0:20:48The rookie rangers have just two weeks to overcome any fears,

0:20:48 > 0:20:51and get prepared for the final challenge.

0:20:51 > 0:20:55So far, they know they'll have to track the Big Five for their guests,

0:20:55 > 0:20:57and set up camp.

0:20:57 > 0:21:01But, as they're about to find out, that's not all.

0:21:02 > 0:21:06For the final challenge, you are all going to have a specific role.

0:21:06 > 0:21:10There is going to be one Head Ranger, two Trackers, three Guides,

0:21:10 > 0:21:13and two people in hospitality.

0:21:13 > 0:21:15Not only have Rudi and Frankie been making sure the Safari 8

0:21:15 > 0:21:18have all the skills they need for the final challenge,

0:21:18 > 0:21:22they've also been assessing which role would best suit each member.

0:21:22 > 0:21:25The Head Guide, or Head Ranger, will be in charge of everything.

0:21:25 > 0:21:28Each of the Safari 8 will have the chance to show the mentors

0:21:28 > 0:21:30their leadership skills.

0:21:30 > 0:21:33But, only one can be chosen for the final challenge.

0:21:33 > 0:21:39As a tracker, your main job is to read tracks. Try and find animals.

0:21:39 > 0:21:43Two Trackers will take on the task of finding the animals.

0:21:43 > 0:21:46It's a big responsibility, so the right two people must be chosen.

0:21:46 > 0:21:51As a guide, you're going to be the link between nature and your guests.

0:21:51 > 0:21:55And that means they'll need to know everything about the Big Five and

0:21:55 > 0:21:58any other animals they might see. And that's a tall order.

0:21:58 > 0:22:04As hospitality, you are in charge of entertainment,

0:22:04 > 0:22:08the food and that there's enough of everything for the guests.

0:22:08 > 0:22:11Possibly one of the hardest jobs, the two rookie rangers who end up

0:22:11 > 0:22:16in hospitality will need to cater for the guests' every whim.

0:22:16 > 0:22:19After living together for two weeks,

0:22:19 > 0:22:23Sifiso has got a good idea what role would suit team-mate Tomas.

0:22:23 > 0:22:26I think Tomas plays a lot. Sometimes it can get a bit irritating.

0:22:26 > 0:22:29So, I think he is going to take the hospitality or something else.

0:22:29 > 0:22:33But I think, just like they say, do not mix business with pleasure.

0:22:33 > 0:22:37- But Kushal is not so sure. - I don't think that Tomas would

0:22:37 > 0:22:39be able to do the hospitality role

0:22:39 > 0:22:42at all, because he is not very organised and stuff like that.

0:22:42 > 0:22:44If you see his room, there's stuff lying everywhere.

0:22:44 > 0:22:48There is one role that most of the team have their eye on.

0:22:48 > 0:22:50If I'm heading for anything, it's really the Head Ranger role.

0:22:50 > 0:22:53I'll try to ensure that I get the role that I want by

0:22:53 > 0:22:55just trying my best at everything.

0:22:55 > 0:22:57But there's tough competition.

0:22:57 > 0:23:00The role I would like to take would definitely be Head Ranger.

0:23:00 > 0:23:02I love leading, it's really fun.

0:23:02 > 0:23:04And what about everybody else?

0:23:04 > 0:23:08Ella would be a good Tracker, as she's good at identifying things.

0:23:08 > 0:23:10Nomalungelo would make a good hospitality.

0:23:10 > 0:23:12She's good at organising.

0:23:12 > 0:23:14Caroline would also make a good Guide.

0:23:14 > 0:23:16She's really good at that kind of stuff.

0:23:16 > 0:23:20Looks like someone has got the final challenge sorted, then.

0:23:20 > 0:23:22More or less.

0:23:28 > 0:23:30So, with no time to waste,

0:23:30 > 0:23:33the team head back to Kruger to complete their ranger training.

0:23:37 > 0:23:42As the sun sets for the day, the Safari 8 arrive back in camp.

0:23:42 > 0:23:45The team have been away from their homes for two weeks,

0:23:45 > 0:23:48and everyone is starting to miss friends and family.

0:23:48 > 0:23:52So, Rudi and Frankie have some messages waiting for them.

0:23:52 > 0:23:55And first to hear from her nearest and dearest is Ashleigh.

0:23:55 > 0:23:57Hi, Ashleigh, we miss you.

0:23:57 > 0:24:02- Sh!- Everything is not the same. School is quiet, the house is quiet.

0:24:02 > 0:24:05I definitely found the whole thing really emotional, because

0:24:05 > 0:24:10it wasn't just me who hadn't seen my family, it was seven other kids.

0:24:10 > 0:24:13Hi, Ashleigh. I'm missing you lots.

0:24:13 > 0:24:16I hope you're having lots of fun there.

0:24:16 > 0:24:18The whole thing was really nice.

0:24:18 > 0:24:22I was speechless, it was so breathtaking the whole thing.

0:24:22 > 0:24:25Keep being who you are, and I'm very, very proud of you.

0:24:25 > 0:24:27- And I love you lots.- I love you too!

0:24:30 > 0:24:33Hi, Kushal. It's really weird without you, I think.

0:24:33 > 0:24:36It's really weird. We really miss you. I love you lots.

0:24:36 > 0:24:40I hope you're having lots of fun and learning lots of things so...

0:24:49 > 0:24:53Hi, Kushal. I think you are all right.

0:24:53 > 0:24:55I miss you...

0:24:57 > 0:25:01- Look after yourself. Thank you.- Aw!

0:25:01 > 0:25:02Love you!

0:25:04 > 0:25:07CAROLINE: Your granny was gorgeous!

0:25:07 > 0:25:09I feel, like, all squishy inside now.

0:25:09 > 0:25:14- LAUGHTER - That's much better.

0:25:14 > 0:25:15I wish you a very good time

0:25:15 > 0:25:17at Kruger National Park.

0:25:17 > 0:25:19Just be good, my child.

0:25:19 > 0:25:24When I first saw my mum, I was in tears. I was like, "Oh, my".

0:25:24 > 0:25:26It was this feeling that I really,

0:25:26 > 0:25:29really needed all this time and I was so grateful for it.

0:25:29 > 0:25:31I was really happy.

0:25:31 > 0:25:36Pretty, in class, it's very boring without you. We miss you dearly.

0:25:36 > 0:25:39And we can't wait before you come back and tell us

0:25:39 > 0:25:41all about your experience there.

0:25:41 > 0:25:44CHEERING

0:25:44 > 0:25:47- Do you have that warm, mushy feeling inside you?- Yeah.

0:25:50 > 0:25:52Hello, Ella.

0:25:52 > 0:25:54We hope you're having a lovely, lovely time.

0:25:54 > 0:25:56Don't worry, we'll all still be here when you come back.

0:25:56 > 0:25:58So make the most of it and enjoy yourself.

0:25:58 > 0:26:03And I'm sure you're not missing your mobile phone, are you?

0:26:03 > 0:26:05And I hope you like eating,

0:26:05 > 0:26:11if you do eat elephant testicles, and lizard tails.

0:26:11 > 0:26:13If you get the chance, you should.

0:26:13 > 0:26:16We miss you lots, have a lovely time.

0:26:16 > 0:26:19Always thinking of you, that's the main thing.

0:26:19 > 0:26:20- That was so sweet.- AW!

0:26:24 > 0:26:26Have fun, enjoy yourself there.

0:26:26 > 0:26:29Yeah, peace out. We love you, man.

0:26:29 > 0:26:32Make sure that you keep it our way. Go "hasla"!

0:26:34 > 0:26:38I wanted to cry, but at the same time I didn't want to show my tears.

0:26:38 > 0:26:42But...they said "hasla" and stuff like that.

0:26:42 > 0:26:45It felt very sad, at the very same time I was very excited.

0:26:45 > 0:26:48HE SPEAKS NATIVE LANGUAGE

0:26:51 > 0:26:53You are a very good boy. There is

0:26:53 > 0:26:57no good boy like you in the whole world, according to your father.

0:26:57 > 0:27:02Those strong words that were given from my family encouraged me a lot.

0:27:02 > 0:27:05Look after yourself very well, wherever you go.

0:27:07 > 0:27:10- How do you feel after that? - I feel like crying.- ALL: AW!

0:27:10 > 0:27:12You all right, yeah?

0:27:15 > 0:27:17Hi, Caroline, we've been missing you.

0:27:17 > 0:27:21- How are you doing?- Miss you. - We all hope you're having a ball.

0:27:21 > 0:27:23Remember the thing we said before you left.

0:27:23 > 0:27:28Take time to breathe at night, look at the stars and keep these memories

0:27:28 > 0:27:30- forever.- And watch out for midgies!

0:27:30 > 0:27:34Bye! Have lots of fun, see you soon.

0:27:34 > 0:27:37- Aw! - When I got the message from home,

0:27:37 > 0:27:41it was such a great feeling to just see them there. I was like, "Hoooo".

0:27:41 > 0:27:45It has definitely given me this massive boost to keep on going,

0:27:45 > 0:27:47to do them proud.

0:27:48 > 0:27:52Next time on Safari 8, the team have a close encounter with a cheetah.

0:27:52 > 0:27:55I find this experience fantastic.

0:27:55 > 0:27:57I just touched a cheetah!

0:27:57 > 0:28:00Get to feed a young orphan.

0:28:00 > 0:28:04And there's trouble in camp.

0:28:04 > 0:28:05Oh, Ashleigh, you stupid...
