0:00:21 > 0:00:22Ah! Hello there!
0:00:22 > 0:00:26I'm Old Jack and this is Salty.
0:00:26 > 0:00:28Salty loves living here with me
0:00:28 > 0:00:32and she often has adventures of her own.
0:00:32 > 0:00:35So, are you sitting comfortably?
0:00:35 > 0:00:36Good.
0:00:36 > 0:00:40Then I'll tell you one of Salty's Waggy Tales!
0:00:41 > 0:00:43HOOTER BLOWS
0:00:43 > 0:00:47It was washing and cleaning day in Staithes.
0:00:47 > 0:00:51Once every month, all of Salty's precious things
0:00:51 > 0:00:53got washed and cleaned.
0:00:53 > 0:00:55Her basket was brushed,
0:00:55 > 0:00:57her special carpet was swept
0:00:57 > 0:00:59and her blue blankie was washed.
0:00:59 > 0:01:04Now, in all the world, the one thing Salty hated
0:01:04 > 0:01:07was having her blue blankie washed.
0:01:07 > 0:01:10"It doesn't need washing!" she howled.
0:01:10 > 0:01:14"I like its smelly smells. I like it the way it is now!"
0:01:14 > 0:01:17Well, this particular day, Salty was so fed up
0:01:17 > 0:01:22with having her blankie washed she decided to hide it.
0:01:22 > 0:01:26She trotted through Staithes, looking for a place to put it
0:01:26 > 0:01:30and, before long, she'd gone as far as the lifeboat station
0:01:30 > 0:01:33and there, beside the long wall,
0:01:33 > 0:01:35was a large pile of lobster pots.
0:01:35 > 0:01:39The perfect place to hide a blankie!
0:01:39 > 0:01:43Salty carefully pushed the blankie underneath a lobster pot
0:01:43 > 0:01:46and was very pleased with the results.
0:01:46 > 0:01:48You could hardly see it.
0:01:48 > 0:01:50But then, the fishermen came by
0:01:50 > 0:01:53and one by one they picked up the lobster pots
0:01:53 > 0:01:55and carried them off to their boats.
0:01:55 > 0:02:00Eventually, there were no lobster pots left on the quayside at all.
0:02:00 > 0:02:03Just Salty's blue blankie.
0:02:03 > 0:02:08Salty decided she needed a better place to hide it.
0:02:08 > 0:02:12So she picked it up and carried it over the bridge
0:02:12 > 0:02:16and down an alleyway until she found the perfect spot.
0:02:16 > 0:02:20On a wall sat a cardboard box -
0:02:20 > 0:02:23she could hide blue blankie in the cardboard box
0:02:23 > 0:02:26until washing and cleaning day was over.
0:02:26 > 0:02:28"He-he! Perfect!"
0:02:28 > 0:02:31She dropped it into the cardboard box
0:02:31 > 0:02:34and looked very pleased with herself.
0:02:34 > 0:02:39But what Salty didn't realise was that today was also bins day,
0:02:39 > 0:02:44and all the rubbish in Staithes was being collected and taken away
0:02:44 > 0:02:47to be dropped into the big, noisy dustcart.
0:02:47 > 0:02:50Before you could say "smelly blankets",
0:02:50 > 0:02:53the box was picked up and taken away.
0:02:53 > 0:02:55"No!" barked Salty.
0:02:55 > 0:02:59She didn't want blue blankie to be squished and squashed
0:02:59 > 0:03:01in the back of a dust cart!
0:03:01 > 0:03:06The lady collecting the rubbish must have heard Salty's barking
0:03:06 > 0:03:10because she stopped what she was doing and looked at Salty.
0:03:10 > 0:03:14Then she looked inside the box and smiled.
0:03:14 > 0:03:19She rummaged around and pulled blue blankie out,
0:03:19 > 0:03:22then she carefully hung it on a wall
0:03:22 > 0:03:24for Salty to gather up.
0:03:24 > 0:03:27Salty was very, very grateful.
0:03:27 > 0:03:30No more cardboard boxes for her,
0:03:30 > 0:03:35she needed to find somewhere much safer to hide blue blankie.
0:03:35 > 0:03:38And then she saw the perfect place.
0:03:38 > 0:03:41It was on the back garden of a house.
0:03:41 > 0:03:46A lovely basket that was just right for putting blankies in.
0:03:47 > 0:03:49She sneaked into the garden
0:03:49 > 0:03:52and carefully put blue blankie in the basket
0:03:52 > 0:03:54where it would be safe.
0:03:54 > 0:03:57But Salty was wrong.
0:03:57 > 0:03:59It wasn't safe at all.
0:03:59 > 0:04:02A man came out of his house picked the basket up
0:04:02 > 0:04:06and put blue blankie straight in the washing machine
0:04:06 > 0:04:07with some other clothes.
0:04:07 > 0:04:09It was a laundry basket!
0:04:09 > 0:04:12The worst place to hide a blue blankie
0:04:12 > 0:04:15that you didn't want to be washed. Oh.
0:04:15 > 0:04:17Salty had to wait for an hour
0:04:17 > 0:04:21for blue blankie to come out of the washing machine
0:04:21 > 0:04:24and then another three hours for it to dry!
0:04:24 > 0:04:27But when she finally got her blankie
0:04:27 > 0:04:29down from the washing line,
0:04:29 > 0:04:31it smelt clean and fresh
0:04:31 > 0:04:35and, well, not too bad, really.
0:04:35 > 0:04:40"Perhaps I should hide blue blankie in laundry baskets more often,"
0:04:40 > 0:04:44thought Salty, as she trotted back down the street.
0:04:44 > 0:04:47All the way back to The Rainbow and home.
0:04:48 > 0:04:51Lovely old Salty!
0:04:51 > 0:04:53She's the best dog in the world.
