0:00:55 > 0:01:00- ..which nestled - between Graig Fach and Graig Fawr...

0:01:00 > 0:01:03- ..stood the village - of Pentre Bach y Glo.

0:01:04 > 0:01:08- Most of the men in Pentre Bach y Glo - worked in the coalmine.

0:01:08 > 0:01:14- It was a hard life but the townsfolk - were all good friends.

0:01:14 > 0:01:18- At the foot of Graig Fawr, Ffredi - Morus lived with his parents...

0:01:19 > 0:01:20- ..Jon and Meri-Jen...

0:01:20 > 0:01:25- ..and his siblings, - Lisi, Reuben, Neli and Tomi.

0:01:39 > 0:01:41- Ffredi's father - worked in the coalmine.

0:01:42 > 0:01:45- He had a fertile vegetable garden - in front of the house.

0:01:46 > 0:01:50- He grew potatoes, carrots, - cabbage and kidney beans.

0:01:51 > 0:01:53- Reuben and Tomi enjoyed helping him.

0:01:54 > 0:01:59- Ffredi, on the other hand, - hated gardening.

0:02:01 > 0:02:05- Jon Morus, his father, made - wooden toys for the children.

0:02:05 > 0:02:10- Reuben and Tomi would often help - their father by collecting wood.

0:02:11 > 0:02:13- But Ffredi didn't.

0:02:29 > 0:02:33- Some nights, the family - would gather at the piano.

0:02:33 > 0:02:39- Meri-Jen would play, Lisi, - Reuben, Neli and Tomi would sing...

0:02:42 > 0:02:46- Ffredi hated nothing - more than singing.

0:02:48 > 0:02:52- Truth be told, - Ffredi only wanted to eat, sleep...

0:03:00 > 0:03:02- It was a harsh winter.

0:03:03 > 0:03:07- Food was scarce and Jon - would chop wood in his spare time...

0:03:07 > 0:03:10- ..to sell as firewood - for six pence a bundle.

0:03:11 > 0:03:15- Ffredi refused to help his father - to chop the wood.

0:03:15 > 0:03:20- Ffredi was sure there was - another, easier way to make money...

0:03:20 > 0:03:23- ..which didn't involve hard work.

0:03:24 > 0:03:29- Early one morning, Jon Morus awoke - and went to wake up Ffredi.

0:03:29 > 0:03:32- "Ffredi," he called tenderly...

0:03:32 > 0:03:36- .."There's a pile of wood in - the garden that needs to be chopped.

0:03:36 > 0:03:40- "If we can sell a few bundles, - we can buy some food.

0:03:40 > 0:03:43- "Can you do that for me - while I'm down the mine?"

0:03:43 > 0:03:45- Ffredi moaned.

0:03:47 > 0:03:49- He didn't want to chop wood.

0:03:57 > 0:04:02- After breakfast, he dragged himself - to the pile of wood....

0:04:02 > 0:04:04- ..and grabbed the axe lazily.

0:04:05 > 0:04:08- As the axe hit the long plank...

0:04:08 > 0:04:11- ..a little elf appeared - from the pile.

0:04:12 > 0:04:15- He had a miner's lamp in his hand.

0:04:17 > 0:04:19- "Who are you?" asked Ffredi.

0:04:20 > 0:04:25- "I'm the forest elf," - replied the elf.

0:04:25 > 0:04:29- "Do you see the miner's lamp? - It's a magic lamp."

0:04:30 > 0:04:34- Ffredi pinched his arm, - but he wasn't dreaming.

0:04:34 > 0:04:38- "Look straight into the flame - and say these words.

0:04:39 > 0:04:41- "'Little lamp - with its flickering light...

0:04:42 > 0:04:44- "..'bring me a fortune - this very night.'

0:04:44 > 0:04:47- "Then, you'll have all the money - you so wish."

0:04:47 > 0:04:51- A huge smile appeared - on Ffredi's face...

0:04:51 > 0:04:54- ..as he reached out for the lamp.

0:04:54 > 0:04:56- "Hup, hup, hup!" warned the elf.

0:04:57 > 0:04:59- "There's one condition."

0:04:59 > 0:05:01- "Anything," replied Ffredi.

0:05:02 > 0:05:05- "You must live on Graig Fawr - and never return.

0:05:05 > 0:05:08- "If you do, - all the money will disappear...

0:05:08 > 0:05:11- "..and all your clothes - will turn to rags."

0:05:12 > 0:05:16- "I won't move an inch - from that mountaintop.

0:05:16 > 0:05:19- "I'm going to be rich," said Ffredi.

0:05:20 > 0:05:26- And so, the elf gave him the magical - miner's lamp before disappearing.

0:05:26 > 0:05:31- Ffredi ran into the house and - scribbled a note to his parents.

0:05:31 > 0:05:33- "Dear Mam and Dad...

0:05:33 > 0:05:37- "..gone away to seek my fortune.

0:05:38 > 0:05:41- "The end.

0:05:41 > 0:05:43- "Ffredi."

0:05:56 > 0:06:01- He took all the food from the pantry - and headed for the mountain.

0:06:01 > 0:06:05- He found a cave in Graig Fawr - where he could shelter.

0:06:05 > 0:06:10- As the sun set that night, the flame - in the lamp burnt brighter...

0:06:10 > 0:06:13- ..and Ffredi peered at it...

0:06:13 > 0:06:16- ..saying, "Little lamp - with its flickering light...

0:06:16 > 0:06:18- "..bring me a fortune - this very night."

0:06:18 > 0:06:23- There and then, a pile of gold - appeared next to him.

0:06:24 > 0:06:27- "I'm rich! Finally!

0:06:28 > 0:06:31- "I knew there was an easier way - to make money.

0:06:31 > 0:06:36- He danced happily in the moonlight - and felt all the gold coins.

0:06:39 > 0:06:42- The following night, - it happened again.

0:06:43 > 0:06:47- As the flame grew, - Ffredi looked at it and said...

0:06:47 > 0:06:51- .."Little lamp - with its flickering light...

0:06:51 > 0:06:54- "..bring me a fortune - this very night!"

0:06:54 > 0:06:56- Another pile of gold appeared.

0:06:57 > 0:06:59- Ffredi had never been so happy.

0:06:59 > 0:07:02- No chopping wood, no housework...

0:07:02 > 0:07:06- ..no brothers and sisters - arguing all the time...

0:07:06 > 0:07:09- ..no Mam and Dad - telling him what to do.

0:07:10 > 0:07:12- "This is the life."

0:07:18 > 0:07:22- As the weeks passed, - the gold kept on coming...

0:07:22 > 0:07:25- ..until the cave was full of coins.

0:07:25 > 0:07:29- Ffredi would shout - from the top of the golden pile...

0:07:29 > 0:07:31- .."This is all mine.

0:07:31 > 0:07:36- "I'm the richest boy - in the whole wide world."

0:07:37 > 0:07:41- But soon, he ran out of food.

0:07:42 > 0:07:46- He thought about going shopping - in Pentre Bach y Glo...

0:07:46 > 0:07:49- ..but he remembered the elf's words.

0:07:49 > 0:07:51- If he left the mountain...

0:07:51 > 0:07:55- ..the money would disappear - and his clothes would turn to rags.

0:07:56 > 0:07:59- So he had to live - on berries and mushrooms.

0:07:59 > 0:08:04- His only companion was the weather - and the odd owl or two.

0:08:05 > 0:08:09- Even though a pile of gold coins - shone brightly next to him...

0:08:09 > 0:08:13- ..and that was what he had - wanted more than anything...

0:08:13 > 0:08:17- ..suddenly, - Ffredi started to feel very sad.

0:08:28 > 0:08:32- To be honest, he missed his bed.

0:08:33 > 0:08:35- His warm, cosy bed.

0:08:37 > 0:08:42- And his brothers and sisters - weren't that bad.

0:08:42 > 0:08:49- Truth to be told, they were - quite happy, loving and dear.

0:08:50 > 0:08:54- And his father... and his mother.

0:08:54 > 0:08:57- His mothers arms around him - when he was hurt.

0:08:58 > 0:09:01- The laughter of his father - filling the room.

0:09:01 > 0:09:04- The family's happy voices - around the piano.

0:09:05 > 0:09:09- That thing which - he couldn't properly describe...

0:09:09 > 0:09:11- ..was what made him feel safe.

0:09:14 > 0:09:17- Then it dawned on him - what that things was.

0:09:19 > 0:09:21- It was love.

0:09:21 > 0:09:28- His parents, Lisi, Reuben, Neli and - Tomi loved him with all their heart.

0:09:29 > 0:09:32- Ffredi realised - that he loved them too.

0:09:39 > 0:09:42- He looked at the gold coins - for the final time...

0:09:43 > 0:09:45- ..before running down the mountain.

0:09:46 > 0:09:49- In the distance, - the gold started to disappear.

0:09:49 > 0:09:52- As he ran, - his clothes turned to rags.

0:09:53 > 0:09:58- He ran and he ran until he reached - the cottage where he once lived.

0:09:58 > 0:10:04- Through the window, he could see his - family huddled together looking sad.

0:10:08 > 0:10:15- As he burst through the door, they - all rushed to him in tears of joy.

0:10:24 > 0:10:27- All he could say was, "I'm sorry."

0:10:28 > 0:10:33- He promised to work hard - and help his parents from now on.

0:10:33 > 0:10:38- To be honest, he helped his mother - in the kitchen...

0:10:38 > 0:10:40- ..because he was good at baking.

0:10:41 > 0:10:44- Soon, he started - to sell the bread in his village...

0:10:45 > 0:10:47- ..from a basket on his bike.

0:10:47 > 0:10:51- When he was older, - he opened his own bakery...

0:10:51 > 0:10:55- ..where Meri-Jen, Neli - and Lisi would also work...

0:10:55 > 0:10:59- ..making the tastiest cakes - and the sweetest jams.

0:10:59 > 0:11:04- Having all the world's gold couldn't - have matched the feeling he had...

0:11:04 > 0:11:07- ..when he was back with his family.
