0:00:51 > 0:00:55- Scarecrow Guto Panas - was in need of a day off.

0:00:56 > 0:01:02- He'd been standing still in - the field scaring crows for months.

0:01:02 > 0:01:06- Ever since the farmer's wife took - some of her husband's clothes...

0:01:07 > 0:01:09- ..and stuffed them full of straw.

0:01:27 > 0:01:31- When he was ready, they took him - to the far end of the field...

0:01:32 > 0:01:36- ..propped him up on a wooden pole - and that's where he stayed...

0:01:36 > 0:01:38- ..morning, noon and night...

0:01:39 > 0:01:43- ..scaring away anything - that tried to eat the corn seeds.

0:01:43 > 0:01:45- Now, he wanted a holiday.

0:01:47 > 0:01:51- Scarecrows are the happiest - and friendliest people...

0:01:51 > 0:01:52- ..you'll ever meet.

0:01:53 > 0:01:55- Unless you're a crow.

0:01:55 > 0:01:57- But they're quite shy too.

0:01:58 > 0:02:03- Don't expect them to jump up - and down if you see one in a field.

0:02:03 > 0:02:05- But say hello, by all means.

0:02:08 > 0:02:12- Scaring crows was hard work.

0:02:12 > 0:02:16- Guto loved his job - but he was very tired.

0:02:17 > 0:02:21- One fine morning, - he decided to take a break.

0:02:26 > 0:02:31- Now then, what does a scarecrow - like Guto Panas do on his day off?

0:02:31 > 0:02:33- That's a very good question.

0:02:33 > 0:02:36- Guto sat in his field - that morning...

0:02:36 > 0:02:39- ..and made a list of everything - he wanted to do.

0:02:45 > 0:02:49- It was a long list, - as you can imagine.

0:02:49 > 0:02:54- Guto had never done anything - apart from scaring crows.

0:02:55 > 0:02:57- On the list, he wrote...

0:02:57 > 0:02:59- ..swim underwater...

0:02:59 > 0:03:01- ..fetch new hay for his belly...

0:03:01 > 0:03:03- ..fly through the sky...

0:03:04 > 0:03:07- ..dive down from the sky, - go skiing...

0:03:07 > 0:03:09- ..and find a new hat.

0:03:13 > 0:03:17- Doing all these in one day - would be impossible.

0:03:17 > 0:03:22- So Guto looked at his list - to determine which was the easiest.

0:03:23 > 0:03:27- The easiest was getting a new hat.

0:03:28 > 0:03:30- And off he went to find one.

0:03:34 > 0:03:36- Guto Panas was on his way - out of the field...

0:03:37 > 0:03:40- ..when he saw something strange - hanging from the tree.

0:03:40 > 0:03:42- What was it?

0:03:53 > 0:03:55- Guto approached it.

0:03:55 > 0:03:58- It was swaying in the breeze.

0:04:01 > 0:04:06- Ah! It's a kite. It must have - belonged to one of the children.

0:04:06 > 0:04:08- It was stuck on the branch.

0:04:09 > 0:04:12- He could release the kite - from the tree...

0:04:12 > 0:04:16- ..and drop it off at the farm - while he went to find a new hat.

0:04:16 > 0:04:19- He grabbed the cord tightly - and pulled.

0:04:20 > 0:04:22- The kite started to come loose...

0:04:22 > 0:04:26- ..but a huge gust of wind - blew in from nowhere...

0:04:26 > 0:04:30- ..and pulled the kite, - propelling it into the sky...

0:04:30 > 0:04:33- ..with Guto Panas - hanging on to the cord.

0:04:33 > 0:04:36- It pulled Guto along - across the fields...

0:04:36 > 0:04:40- ..before crashing through - a barn full of cattle...

0:04:40 > 0:04:43- ..and appearing the other side - at pace.

0:04:47 > 0:04:50- Over the hill and down the hillside.

0:04:50 > 0:04:54- He skated across the pond - where the ducks and geese lived.

0:04:55 > 0:04:57- There were feathers everywhere.

0:04:57 > 0:04:59- Guto held on for dear life...

0:05:00 > 0:05:03- ..as he was dragged through - the hedges, fences and mud.

0:05:04 > 0:05:07- "Goodness me," he shouted.

0:05:07 > 0:05:10- At that moment, - the wind picked up again...

0:05:10 > 0:05:14- ..and propelled the kite - high into the sky.

0:05:21 > 0:05:25- If you're made out of straw, - you'll be very light.

0:05:25 > 0:05:30- So light, the wind can pull you up - into the sky.

0:05:30 > 0:05:33- That's what happened to Guto Panas.

0:05:33 > 0:05:35- He went higher and higher...

0:05:35 > 0:05:39- ..up, up, up into the sky, - holding on to the cord.

0:05:42 > 0:05:45- The fields became smaller - and smaller beneath him.

0:05:46 > 0:05:48- Guto flew through the clouds...

0:05:48 > 0:05:52- ..and the kite went - wherever the wind would take it.

0:05:54 > 0:05:58- First, over the green hills - which led to towns and villages.

0:05:58 > 0:06:01- They looked no bigger - than stamps from above.

0:06:02 > 0:06:06- He could see people shopping - and driving their toy cars.

0:06:07 > 0:06:10- That's how they seemed to Guto, - up high in the clouds.

0:06:11 > 0:06:15- Soon, he was flying over the sea.

0:06:16 > 0:06:19- Guto Panas was really worried now.

0:06:28 > 0:06:33- "Oh, dear me," he shouted, - "What if I fly too far out to sea?

0:06:34 > 0:06:39- "How will I find my way back to - the field to scare away the crows?"

0:06:39 > 0:06:43- He was sure that he was - on the way to Australia.

0:06:44 > 0:06:48- There was nothing for it - but to let go.

0:06:48 > 0:06:50- And that's what he did.

0:07:03 > 0:07:08- He fell slowly yet elegantly - through the air.

0:07:08 > 0:07:10- Down and down...

0:07:10 > 0:07:14- ..until he landed with a splash.

0:07:19 > 0:07:24- Now then, Guto's straw belly - was light when he was dry...

0:07:24 > 0:07:27- ..but as soon as he was wet...

0:07:27 > 0:07:31- ..Guto sunk like a stone - to the seabed.

0:07:32 > 0:07:34- What a strange place that was.

0:07:35 > 0:07:37- He had a bed of sand.

0:07:37 > 0:07:41- Fish swam past him - from all directions.

0:07:41 > 0:07:44- Everything was bright blue.

0:07:52 > 0:07:56- I don't think the fish - had seen a scarecrow before.

0:07:56 > 0:07:59- Guto had never seen fish before.

0:08:02 > 0:08:07- Soon, Guto managed - to roll out of the sea...

0:08:07 > 0:08:08- ..onto the beach.

0:08:14 > 0:08:18- "Well, this is a busy day off," - he said.

0:08:18 > 0:08:22- He dragged his soaking body - across the beach...

0:08:22 > 0:08:26- ..until he reached a field - full of horses.

0:08:26 > 0:08:29- Guto was glad to reach the field...

0:08:29 > 0:08:34- ..because where you find horses, - you'll find straw.

0:08:34 > 0:08:37- Warm, dry straw.

0:08:39 > 0:08:43- That's precisely what he found - in one of the stables.

0:08:44 > 0:08:47- He removed all his wet straw...

0:08:47 > 0:08:51- ..and filled his belly - with dry straw.

0:08:51 > 0:08:55- He started to feel much better.

0:09:01 > 0:09:05- He still had a way to go - before arriving back at the farm...

0:09:05 > 0:09:07- ..and the sun was starting to set.

0:09:08 > 0:09:12- He had to hurry up or the farmer - would be concerned about him.

0:09:12 > 0:09:14- Could he find another kite?

0:09:15 > 0:09:18- No, he wasn't going - to try that again.

0:09:18 > 0:09:21- Who knows where he'd land next time.

0:09:21 > 0:09:25- Oh, no. - How was he going to get back?

0:09:27 > 0:09:30- He slumped to the ground.

0:09:30 > 0:09:34- That's when he heard a sound - he recognised.

0:09:34 > 0:09:40- The sound of the red tractor and - the sound of the farmer singing...

0:09:40 > 0:09:44- ..# Living in the countryside, - living in the countryside #

0:09:44 > 0:09:48- What a relief, - especially when the farmer said...

0:09:49 > 0:09:51- .."Well, here you are, Guto Panas.

0:09:51 > 0:09:54- "I've been searching for you - all day.

0:09:54 > 0:09:58- "I came down to the corn field - to see you but you were gone.

0:09:58 > 0:10:03- "I jumped in my tractor and I've - driven for miles searching for you."

0:10:04 > 0:10:07- "Thank you, Mr Ffarmwr," said Guto.

0:10:08 > 0:10:11- "I fancied a day off - to do a few things...

0:10:11 > 0:10:13- "..but everything went wrong.

0:10:13 > 0:10:16- "I'd like to go back - to my field now, please."

0:10:21 > 0:10:27- The farmer smiled and lifted Guto - Panas up and put him on the tractor.

0:10:28 > 0:10:34- On the way home, Guto thought - about the things on his list...

0:10:34 > 0:10:37- ..and everything - that had happened to him.

0:10:38 > 0:10:43- That's when he realised that - he'd done everything on the list.

0:10:43 > 0:10:49- He'd done some kind of skiing, - he'd flown and dived from the sky...

0:10:50 > 0:10:52- ..and swum under the sea.

0:10:52 > 0:10:56- And he'd found a bellyful - of fresh straw.

0:11:00 > 0:11:03- Everything on the list, - apart from one thing.

0:11:03 > 0:11:06- He'd failed to get a new hat.

0:11:06 > 0:11:12- But there we go, maybe Guto Panas - can have one of those...

0:11:12 > 0:11:15- ..the next time he has a day off.

0:11:32 > 0:11:33- .
