0:01:33 > 0:01:37- My bed in Mam-gu's house was larger - than the one I had at home.

0:01:40 > 0:01:44- Soft blankets - and thick feather-filled cushions

0:02:20 > 0:02:25- But the best thing about Mam-gu - and Tad-cu's home was in the garden.

0:02:25 > 0:02:29- That's where I'd spend all my time, - Tad-cu and me.

0:02:29 > 0:02:31- Tad-cu loved trains.

0:02:31 > 0:02:39- And so, he built the most magical - and incredible railway you ever saw.

0:02:43 > 0:02:47- His little engines and carriages - would be the centre of attention.

0:02:48 > 0:02:51- He would polish them - and look after them...

0:02:51 > 0:02:55- ..and they would run happily - on the railway all day long.

0:03:15 > 0:03:19- The journey would begin - in the kitchen train station...

0:03:19 > 0:03:22- ..and I was the station manager.

0:03:22 > 0:03:28- When Tad-cu was ready, I would shout - "all aboard for Tad-cu's garden".

0:03:28 > 0:03:33- I would blow my whistle - and Tad-cu would fire up the engine.

0:03:33 > 0:03:38- Off went the train with puffs - of smoke rising from its chimney.

0:03:44 > 0:03:47- The train would leave - the kitchen station...

0:03:47 > 0:03:52- ..and chuff-chuff past flower valley - and Mam-gu's little paradise...

0:03:52 > 0:03:58- ..a corner of the garden where she'd - planted primroses and pansies...

0:03:58 > 0:04:02- ..between pieces of slate - and little stones.

0:04:03 > 0:04:07- Tad-cu had built a tunnel - in Mam-gu's little paradise...

0:04:08 > 0:04:11- ..and when the train came out - the other side...

0:04:11 > 0:04:14- ..it would continue its journey - around the lawn.

0:04:16 > 0:04:21- More often than not, Wini, - Mam-gu and Tad-cu's old cat...

0:04:21 > 0:04:24- ..would slouch across the track - at this point.

0:04:24 > 0:04:28- As soon as she heard - the train approaching...

0:04:28 > 0:04:30- ..with a loud choo-choo...

0:04:30 > 0:04:33- ..she would dart into the hedge - and hide...

0:04:33 > 0:04:36- ..until the train - had disappeared from sight.

0:04:41 > 0:04:44- On went the journey - to the bottom of the garden...

0:04:45 > 0:04:48- ..behind the shed, - towards the compost heap...

0:04:48 > 0:04:52- ..before heading for home - past the hedge, the rosebush...

0:04:52 > 0:04:56- ..and Norman and Kevin, - the two garden gnomes.

0:04:58 > 0:05:02- It would eventually arrive - at the kitchen window.

0:05:02 > 0:05:07- The train would be out of steam - by then, but proud of itself.

0:05:09 > 0:05:13- "Kitchen station, last stop," - Tad-cu would announce.

0:05:13 > 0:05:18- I would wave my red banner before - entering the station office...

0:05:18 > 0:05:23- ..in the kitchen for a glass of - milk and a slice of buttery toast...

0:05:23 > 0:05:26- ..made by the cafe mistress, Mam-gu.

0:05:26 > 0:05:29- Then we'd go back - and do it all again.

0:05:29 > 0:05:33- We'd continue like this - until tea-time.

0:05:49 > 0:05:53- During the evening, - Tad-cu would work on the carriages.

0:05:54 > 0:05:58- He'd fix them and clean them - until they shone brightly.

0:05:58 > 0:06:03- "You look after that train better - than you look after yourself,"...

0:06:03 > 0:06:06- ..Mam-gu would whisper - with a sly smile.

0:06:06 > 0:06:13- "Look after your things and one day, - they'll thank you for it,"...

0:06:13 > 0:06:16- ..Tad-cu would say every time.

0:06:21 > 0:06:25- One stormy autumn day, Tad-cu was - busy at the bottom of the garden...

0:06:25 > 0:06:28- ..clearing the brown, - orange and yellow leaves...

0:06:29 > 0:06:31- ..which had fallen - from the nearby trees.

0:06:32 > 0:06:34- He would use a rake - to gather up the leaves.

0:06:35 > 0:06:39- He'd load them into a wheelbarrow - and pour them on the compost heap.

0:06:39 > 0:06:42- But he left his rake - on the ground...

0:06:42 > 0:06:47- ..as he moved the leaves from - the wheelbarrow to the compost heap.

0:06:47 > 0:06:50- The next thing he knew, - he was flat on the ground.

0:06:50 > 0:06:57- He'd tripped over the rake, - landed awkwardly and hurt his foot.

0:06:57 > 0:07:01- He couldn't move. - He started to shout for help.

0:07:01 > 0:07:05- Mam-gu was listening to the radio - in the kitchen...

0:07:05 > 0:07:07- ..so she couldn't hear or see him.

0:07:08 > 0:07:11- He was behind the shed, - out of sight.

0:07:12 > 0:07:14- What on earth was he going to do?

0:07:19 > 0:07:24- Just then, he heard - a "choo-choo" approaching.

0:07:25 > 0:07:28- As the train neared - the back of the shed...

0:07:28 > 0:07:32- ..it slowed down - and stopped next to Tad-cu.

0:07:36 > 0:07:39- "Thank goodness you're here," - said Tad-cu.

0:07:40 > 0:07:42- "I'm so glad to see you.

0:07:42 > 0:07:44- "Take this to Mam-gu."

0:07:46 > 0:07:51- He took off his flat cap - and placed it on the front carriage.

0:07:51 > 0:07:56- "OK," he said, "All aboard." - The train continued its journey.

0:08:05 > 0:08:08- Tad-cu could see it carrying - the cap past Mam-gu's bench.

0:08:10 > 0:08:14- "On you go, little train," - said Tad-cu.

0:08:17 > 0:08:20- There were leaves on the track - by the rosebush...

0:08:20 > 0:08:23- ..but the train - battled bravely over them.

0:08:24 > 0:08:27- "Oh, no," groaned Tad-cu.

0:08:30 > 0:08:33- Norman the gnome had fallen over - in the wind...

0:08:33 > 0:08:36- ..and he was lying across the track.

0:08:36 > 0:08:39- "That's the end of it now.

0:08:39 > 0:08:45- "The train will hit Norman and - they'll both be smashed to pieces."

0:08:47 > 0:08:51- But the little train - slowed right down...

0:08:51 > 0:08:57- ..and as it approached Norman, - it started to shunt him slowly.

0:08:57 > 0:09:03- It used all its strength - to move the gnome inch by inch...

0:09:03 > 0:09:05- ..a little at a time...

0:09:05 > 0:09:08- ..slowly and patiently.

0:09:09 > 0:09:13- "Well done, my dear friend," - said Tad-cu.

0:09:13 > 0:09:15- "Steady on now."

0:09:29 > 0:09:31- Mam-gu was washing the dishes.

0:09:31 > 0:09:36- She raised her head - as the train approached her.

0:09:36 > 0:09:41- She was wondering what was lying - across the front carriage.

0:09:41 > 0:09:43- A rabbit?

0:09:43 > 0:09:45- A bird?

0:09:49 > 0:09:53- The train stopped - outside the kitchen window.

0:09:53 > 0:09:57- Mam-gu recognised the shape - immediately.

0:09:57 > 0:10:03- "It's Tad-cu's flat cap! How on - earth...? What's it doing...?

0:10:03 > 0:10:06- "Oh, no, something's happened.

0:10:06 > 0:10:10- "Bill? Bill?" she shouted.

0:10:16 > 0:10:19- "Over here, Megan," he shouted.

0:10:19 > 0:10:22- The poor dab was in a lot of pain.

0:10:22 > 0:10:26- Mam-gu went to help him.

0:10:26 > 0:10:30- She phoned the ambulance - and it arrived promptly.

0:10:30 > 0:10:32- Tad-cu was taken to the hospital.

0:10:32 > 0:10:36- They looked after him - until he was better.

0:10:36 > 0:10:40- Soon, he was back on his feet - and feeling much better.

0:10:45 > 0:10:47- When I'd go on my holidays...

0:10:48 > 0:10:51- ..Mam-gu would tell me that story - before I went to sleep.

0:10:52 > 0:10:53- I loved it.

0:10:53 > 0:10:57- The story about how - the little train rescued Tad-cu...

0:10:57 > 0:11:00- ..and how Tad-cu would remind us...

0:11:00 > 0:11:05- .."Look after your things and - one day, they'll thank you for it."
