0:00:02 > 0:00:04ACCORDION MUSIC PLAYS Bienvenue, Technobabble.

0:00:04 > 0:00:05Je suis le Vlogster.

0:00:05 > 0:00:08Oh, excuse me, viewers. I'm just recording our French show.

0:00:08 > 0:00:11I'm very multi-lingual, don't you know? Bear with me.

0:00:11 > 0:00:13HE SPEAKS IN FRENCH

0:00:28 > 0:00:32So, here's what's coming up on today's international show.

0:00:32 > 0:00:34My American buddy, Rita, reports from...

0:00:34 > 0:00:37ELVIS PRESLEY IMPRESSION: Las Vegas, baby. The world's biggest tech show.

0:00:37 > 0:00:41- A-huh-huh.- This is my new best friend, Buddy. I'm keeping him.

0:00:42 > 0:00:44Our Australian mate, Elly.

0:00:44 > 0:00:46She's back and she's hanging out with celebs.

0:00:46 > 0:00:49This app is just ridiculous.

0:00:49 > 0:00:50Plus, me Irish mucker, Aoife's

0:00:50 > 0:00:54here to combine games with browsing, to be sure.

0:00:54 > 0:00:57A free in-browser game can be a great way to pass the time.

0:00:57 > 0:01:01But first, let's start with a face from a bit closer to home.

0:01:01 > 0:01:05Here's new boy Will with a lowdown on creating games.

0:01:05 > 0:01:08Everyone loves playing games. One of the best things about them

0:01:08 > 0:01:10is that you can also make games yourself.

0:01:10 > 0:01:12First you want to think of an idea for the game.

0:01:12 > 0:01:15My advice - keep it simple. Some of the greatest games are.

0:01:15 > 0:01:18I made a game, Dodgerblock, which in essence is just dropping blocks

0:01:18 > 0:01:20It doesn't get simpler than that.

0:01:20 > 0:01:22Write your ideas down, write drawings - whatever works for you.

0:01:22 > 0:01:25Once you've got the idea, the next step is to start making your game.

0:01:25 > 0:01:27For this you need some gaming software.

0:01:27 > 0:01:30I use Gamemaker but there's loads of other ones out there.

0:01:30 > 0:01:32If you get stuck, there are loads of tutorials out there

0:01:32 > 0:01:34but the best way to learn is to just try new things out.

0:01:34 > 0:01:37After you've chosen your software you need to start making

0:01:37 > 0:01:38a prototype for your game.

0:01:38 > 0:01:41This doesn't need fancy graphics, but it'll show you what the game is like

0:01:41 > 0:01:44when playing it which will give you new ideas on what to do next.

0:01:44 > 0:01:47After you've played around with your game idea, expand your prototype.

0:01:47 > 0:01:48This is where you add more levels,

0:01:48 > 0:01:51if it's a side-scroller type of game like Angry Birds or supermeboy.

0:01:51 > 0:01:54Or, if it only has one level, then you make it get harder

0:01:54 > 0:01:57so it's always more interesting, you could increase the speed,

0:01:57 > 0:01:59make objects harder to collect and so on.

0:01:59 > 0:02:00The choice is yours. After you've done that

0:02:00 > 0:02:02and the game feels more playable,

0:02:02 > 0:02:04it's now time to make the graphics look great.

0:02:04 > 0:02:06Add some music and sound effects.

0:02:06 > 0:02:08Then all that's left to do is to share with your friends

0:02:08 > 0:02:11and family and you can get them playing as well.

0:02:11 > 0:02:12Thank you, Willie.

0:02:12 > 0:02:16Oh, no. It's messaging time. Come on, then. Give me the bad news.

0:02:16 > 0:02:19What name have we gone with today?

0:02:19 > 0:02:21Snapagram. Urgh.

0:02:21 > 0:02:23Oh, I suppose we've had worse. Right.

0:02:23 > 0:02:25Let's have a question.

0:02:25 > 0:02:28Vlogster, what technology should I look out for in 2016?

0:02:30 > 0:02:33Oh, Sam! Great question and I know just who to call...

0:02:33 > 0:02:36Now, where did I write down that phone number...?

0:02:47 > 0:02:48I know, I know.

0:02:48 > 0:02:50I did warn him about that time machine.

0:02:50 > 0:02:51I cannot believe it.

0:02:51 > 0:02:54I suppose you can only give so much advice, Rita.

0:02:54 > 0:02:57You know you're right, Vlogster. You just have to live and learn I guess.

0:02:57 > 0:03:00Talking about learning, I'm getting a tad rusty.

0:03:00 > 0:03:03I need a system update on all things tech-tastic.

0:03:03 > 0:03:05You know, it's funny you should say that, Vlogster.

0:03:05 > 0:03:07You'll never guess where I am...

0:03:07 > 0:03:10Well, I never.

0:03:10 > 0:03:13Vegas, baby.

0:03:13 > 0:03:18MUSIC: Viva Las Vegas by Elvis Presley

0:03:32 > 0:03:34This place is a tech lover's dream come true,

0:03:34 > 0:03:39and we have a VIP pass to check it out.

0:03:39 > 0:03:43The Consumer Electronics Show, held in Vegas, every January, is

0:03:43 > 0:03:46the world's largest showcase of new technology.

0:03:46 > 0:03:50Over 170,000 people visit each year to see exhibitors from more

0:03:50 > 0:03:51than 150 countries.

0:03:53 > 0:03:54They're so cute.

0:03:56 > 0:03:57Come here, boy!

0:04:00 > 0:04:05ROBOT: Hi, Rita! Come over here.

0:04:05 > 0:04:06It's a pleasure to meet you.

0:04:06 > 0:04:09It's a pleasure to meet you too, Mechanoid.

0:04:09 > 0:04:12Chris, this guy is amazing. Tell me all about it.

0:04:12 > 0:04:16What we wanted to do was take this amazing building system

0:04:16 > 0:04:18and then add electronic teachings to it.

0:04:18 > 0:04:21So they can learn about electrical engineering, they can learn

0:04:21 > 0:04:23about programming and really begin to experiment on a bigger scale.

0:04:23 > 0:04:26So, tell me, how does this robot work?

0:04:26 > 0:04:29It's a really neat system. So we've got our basic nuts

0:04:29 > 0:04:30and bolts system, holding it together.

0:04:30 > 0:04:33And then we have our smart modules here which actually

0:04:33 > 0:04:37not only act as motors but they also act as sensors.

0:04:37 > 0:04:39So when I press this red button...

0:04:39 > 0:04:44the robot's actually going to record everything that I do to him.

0:04:44 > 0:04:46Hi, I'm Mechanoid!

0:04:47 > 0:04:49And then that's recorded into memory.

0:04:49 > 0:04:51ROBOT: "Hi, I'm Mechanoid!"

0:04:51 > 0:04:55And how can I program the robot to do what I want it to do?

0:04:55 > 0:04:57All you have to do is grab the little control bubbles here

0:04:57 > 0:05:00and it'll actually record everything that you do.

0:05:00 > 0:05:01Do you want to try it?

0:05:01 > 0:05:03Sure.

0:05:05 > 0:05:07All right...

0:05:10 > 0:05:13- You're a natural.- I'm a natural! Thank you so much for showing me.

0:05:13 > 0:05:17- This guy is amazing. Thanks.- Thanks so much for coming by.- Thank you.

0:05:27 > 0:05:31Vlogster, I think I've found you the perfect pet.

0:05:31 > 0:05:35From hi-tec sports to supersize TVs, the latest cars,

0:05:35 > 0:05:38to cooking gadgets, CES has been running for almost 50 years.

0:05:38 > 0:05:41This right here is a smart fitness watch.

0:05:41 > 0:05:45It helps me stay in shape and keep track of all of my exercises.

0:05:52 > 0:05:54You're never going to guess who I ran into today...

0:05:54 > 0:05:56It's Ricky from Newsround!

0:05:56 > 0:05:58I'm here. I'm having the time of my life.

0:05:58 > 0:06:00- It is so cool here.- It is.

0:06:00 > 0:06:02What has been your favourite thing?

0:06:02 > 0:06:05Well, my mind has been blown several times but robots

0:06:05 > 0:06:08and drones happen to be the best thing so far.

0:06:08 > 0:06:10I had a robot that carried my bags.

0:06:10 > 0:06:13I saw an alarm clock which wakes you up with a smell.

0:06:13 > 0:06:14How cool would that be?

0:06:14 > 0:06:17I've seen a really cool robot that you can dance with.

0:06:17 > 0:06:19It's been fantastic. I've had the time of my life.

0:06:19 > 0:06:21But, do you know what? I'm quite tired now.

0:06:21 > 0:06:22If that's the case, we will let you go.

0:06:22 > 0:06:24We still have a lot more to explore.

0:06:28 > 0:06:32Hello. This is my new best friend, Buddy. I'm keeping him.

0:06:33 > 0:06:38The show covers the same space as 400 basketball courts.

0:06:38 > 0:06:40It's spread over 15 miles of floor

0:06:40 > 0:06:43and helps to launch some 20,000 new products.

0:06:43 > 0:06:45This is extreme reality.

0:06:45 > 0:06:47It uses the camera, like, on your phone or laptop

0:06:47 > 0:06:50so that you can play awesome games with your body.

0:06:57 > 0:07:00This has got to be the most exciting thing I've seen all day.

0:07:00 > 0:07:02We all know virtual reality is super cool

0:07:02 > 0:07:05but this mixes VR with a flight simulator.

0:07:05 > 0:07:08That means that it feels like you're flying through space

0:07:08 > 0:07:11and fighting bad guys in real-time. It is crazy cool.

0:07:11 > 0:07:14Thanks, Rita. Oh, you've done me proud.

0:07:15 > 0:07:19Ah, Vegas. The place where tech dreams do come true.

0:07:19 > 0:07:22Right, what's next? Some continent hopping, I reckon.

0:07:22 > 0:07:26Elly, let's be having you and your celebrity apps, my Aussie cobber.

0:07:27 > 0:07:28Hey, cool people!

0:07:28 > 0:07:32Today I've got some fun celebrity apps for you to try.

0:07:32 > 0:07:34Let's start off with Celebrity Face Mania.

0:07:34 > 0:07:37In this app you have to piece together celebrities' faces.

0:07:37 > 0:07:39And I'm not sure if it's meant to be,

0:07:39 > 0:07:42but this app is actually really funny because you have to flick

0:07:42 > 0:07:45through different celebrities' eyes, noses and mouths

0:07:45 > 0:07:47to make up the original celebrities' face.

0:07:47 > 0:07:49I don't think this game is very difficult.

0:07:49 > 0:07:53It's mostly just very amusing. But that's why I think it's very fun.

0:07:53 > 0:07:55To start off with you can unlock around 20 celebrities

0:07:55 > 0:07:58and it's available for free for Android devices.

0:07:58 > 0:08:00If you don't have an Android device though,

0:08:00 > 0:08:03I would highly recommend Celebrity Face Maker.

0:08:03 > 0:08:07This app is just ridiculous - in a good way that is. Watch this.

0:08:07 > 0:08:11You're able to put a celebrity's face onto your face.

0:08:11 > 0:08:14And you can do this with pictures in your library,

0:08:14 > 0:08:15or take a photo of yourself.

0:08:15 > 0:08:18And it's so weird but it's so funny.

0:08:18 > 0:08:20You can even next to different celebrities faces together

0:08:20 > 0:08:24and the app comes with 25 free faces which is plenty.

0:08:24 > 0:08:26But you can purchase more, if you'd like.

0:08:26 > 0:08:29Next, I'm recommending Find Justin Bieber.

0:08:29 > 0:08:32What you have to do is find Justin Bieber in a crowd

0:08:32 > 0:08:35of Justin Biebers and the app will basically show you

0:08:35 > 0:08:38a picture of Justin and you have to find his matching image.

0:08:38 > 0:08:41The first time I was playing this game I didn't find it very

0:08:41 > 0:08:43challenging, but now I'm a Belieber that

0:08:43 > 0:08:46if you play more difficult levels is largely quite hard

0:08:46 > 0:08:48because the pictures will randomly change places.

0:08:48 > 0:08:52- So have fun with those and keep smiling.- Thanks, Elly.

0:08:52 > 0:08:55I knew a celebrity once. True story.

0:08:55 > 0:08:57And, as usual, my showbiz babblers,

0:08:57 > 0:09:00don't download apps without permission.

0:09:00 > 0:09:03If my BFF, Beyonce, has to ask first,

0:09:03 > 0:09:06then I expect you lot do the same.

0:09:06 > 0:09:07OK, Snapagram.

0:09:07 > 0:09:10I'm ready for another question.

0:09:10 > 0:09:13Vlogster, how will we holiday in the future?

0:09:14 > 0:09:16A well travelled question there, Emily.

0:09:16 > 0:09:20You babblers... Always skiving and thinking about holidays.

0:09:20 > 0:09:22Go on, then, let's have a look.

0:09:24 > 0:09:28Tech-perts think that your future getaway might begin at home -

0:09:28 > 0:09:30Slipping on a virtual reality headset

0:09:30 > 0:09:34and feeling vibrations through a haptic smartphone.

0:09:34 > 0:09:37You'll be able to experience the sights, sounds, smells,

0:09:37 > 0:09:39and feel of your dream destination.

0:09:39 > 0:09:43Say, walking through a bustling Moroccan market,

0:09:43 > 0:09:48sniffing wafts of exotic spices and touching the silk scarves on sale.

0:09:48 > 0:09:49Oh!

0:09:49 > 0:09:51These virtual tasters might become

0:09:51 > 0:09:54so real that you don't need to leave home at all,

0:09:54 > 0:09:57exploring somewhere new in the world every day.

0:09:57 > 0:09:59And no forgotten underpants.

0:09:59 > 0:10:02Ever wondered where Nemo got to?

0:10:02 > 0:10:04Well, you might find him,

0:10:04 > 0:10:08while you eat at the underwater Ithaa restaurant in the Maldives.

0:10:08 > 0:10:10With all glass windows from floor-to-ceiling,

0:10:10 > 0:10:15your fellow diners could be sharks, stingrays and turtles.

0:10:15 > 0:10:18And in Dubai you could even sleep with the fishes, if you

0:10:18 > 0:10:21check into the planned Water Discus Hotel, ten metres under the sea,

0:10:21 > 0:10:25in a glass lift. But no need to hold your breath,

0:10:25 > 0:10:30all rooms will have below ocean views including passing mermaids.

0:10:30 > 0:10:33Hmm. The mermaids sound a bit fishy to me,

0:10:33 > 0:10:36but I bet they'll be chish and fips for tea.

0:10:36 > 0:10:37Fancy somewhere further afield?

0:10:37 > 0:10:38In the next few years,

0:10:38 > 0:10:42passenger space ships will start taking tourists into space.

0:10:42 > 0:10:47Although at £165,000, the ticket prices are out of this world too.

0:10:47 > 0:10:50For a third of the cost, and if you're not afraid of heights,

0:10:50 > 0:10:55you can go to 19 miles above Earth in a special balloon, where,

0:10:55 > 0:10:59for a couple of hours, you can admire the curvature of the Earth.

0:10:59 > 0:11:00If that sounds a bit rushed,

0:11:00 > 0:11:02how about a more down to earth hotel stay?

0:11:02 > 0:11:04On the moon.

0:11:04 > 0:11:07British architects and NASA scientists are making plans

0:11:07 > 0:11:09to build a habitable moon base,

0:11:09 > 0:11:12using 3-D printers and lunar soil.

0:11:12 > 0:11:16Soil!? I thought the moon was made of cheese. Happy holidays.

0:11:17 > 0:11:19With all this talk of exotic places,

0:11:19 > 0:11:22I'm beginning to think it's time to think I took a break myself.

0:11:22 > 0:11:25Skeggy, Brid, Cleethorpes... Hmm. Difficult decision.

0:11:25 > 0:11:29While I mull over my next glamorous getaway,

0:11:29 > 0:11:31here's Aoife with some browser games.

0:11:32 > 0:11:35If you find yourself about a game that you want to play

0:11:35 > 0:11:36and ten minutes to spare,

0:11:36 > 0:11:40a free in-browser game can be a great way to pass the time.

0:11:40 > 0:11:43Ultimate Dodge Ball is pretty basic but it's a good way to

0:11:43 > 0:11:45while away a few minutes of downtime.

0:11:45 > 0:11:48The basics are your opponent will try and match your movements

0:11:48 > 0:11:52and hit you with the ball, just as you move and aim for them.

0:11:52 > 0:11:54It's also made a lot harder by the fact that there's a guy

0:11:54 > 0:11:58hiding in the corner throwing a few extra things at you to dodge.

0:11:58 > 0:12:00Hey, no fair.

0:12:00 > 0:12:04Agario is an in-browser game that you'll likely keep coming back to.

0:12:04 > 0:12:07It's such a simple idea and the average game lasts

0:12:07 > 0:12:10about 30 seconds to a minute.

0:12:10 > 0:12:13You start off as a little coloured dot and as you move around using the

0:12:13 > 0:12:17mouse, you'll eat up any coloured dot smaller than you.

0:12:17 > 0:12:18The problem is, there

0:12:18 > 0:12:22are a lot of other, bigger, players out there trying to hunt you down.

0:12:22 > 0:12:26If you want to chill out after a long day, how about a nice,

0:12:26 > 0:12:29relaxing game of virtual ping-pong?

0:12:29 > 0:12:34Cube Slam Is quite like Pong, one of the earliest video games ever made.

0:12:34 > 0:12:37Except it comes with some upbeat chiptune music

0:12:37 > 0:12:38and a variety of cool player ops.

0:12:38 > 0:12:41Playing against one of the computer- controlled bears can be really

0:12:41 > 0:12:46challenging but you can invite a friend to play against you instead.

0:12:46 > 0:12:49But be prepared. It can get really competitive.

0:12:49 > 0:12:53QWOP, so-called because it uses the keyboard buttons Q, W, O

0:12:53 > 0:12:56and P, is a game where you control four parts of an

0:12:56 > 0:12:58athlete's legs, thighs, and calves

0:12:58 > 0:13:01and sent him sprinting down a racetrack.

0:13:01 > 0:13:04The problem is it's quite hard not to get turned upside down

0:13:04 > 0:13:06within the first metre.

0:13:06 > 0:13:10It's a very silly game. But one that's very, very fun.

0:13:10 > 0:13:12Thanks, lovely Aofia.

0:13:12 > 0:13:14So, just before we go, we have time for what

0:13:14 > 0:13:17I like to refer to as the highlight of the show.

0:13:17 > 0:13:20It's the Babblebuster.

0:13:20 > 0:13:22T is for twoosh

0:13:22 > 0:13:27A twoosh or twitter swoosh is a tweet that is exactly

0:13:27 > 0:13:28140 characters long -

0:13:28 > 0:13:31the maximum amount of letters, numbers and symbols allowed.

0:13:31 > 0:13:34No more, no less.

0:13:34 > 0:13:37President of the USA Barrack Obama once claimed that he was

0:13:37 > 0:13:41the twoosh master, after a online question and answer session.

0:13:41 > 0:13:43Right, I'm off.

0:13:43 > 0:13:45I'm going to make me some Paella.

0:13:45 > 0:13:48Adios, amigos. Hasta pronto.

0:13:49 > 0:13:51Next time on Technobabble.
