0:00:05 > 0:00:06you are in for a treat.

0:00:06 > 0:00:08A totally tech treat.

0:00:08 > 0:00:11A treat of terrific, technological tastiness.

0:00:11 > 0:00:13You get the idea?

0:00:13 > 0:00:14Roll titles!

0:00:31 > 0:00:34So here's what's coming up today...

0:00:34 > 0:00:38Marcus finds out how a cup of joe can help to power buildings and vehicles.

0:00:38 > 0:00:40I'm going to name this "the Marcus coffee".

0:00:40 > 0:00:43Cherry takes a look at games that will make your phone

0:00:43 > 0:00:45megabytes more interesting.

0:00:45 > 0:00:47- This is Spring Ninja. - SHE MIMICS NINJA NOISE

0:00:47 > 0:00:51And new boy Adam has some brrrrilliant animation tips.

0:00:51 > 0:00:54- Hello there, my small bird friend. - BIRD CHEEPS

0:00:54 > 0:00:57But first, here's Lizzie to share a little bit more of her

0:00:57 > 0:01:00encyclopaedic knowledge of Minecraft.

0:01:00 > 0:01:01Is she a genius?

0:01:03 > 0:01:05Minecraft is one of my favourite games ever,

0:01:05 > 0:01:08and so, today, I'm going to be sharing my top tips

0:01:08 > 0:01:12on how to play the game even better.

0:01:12 > 0:01:13You can save yourself from fall damage

0:01:13 > 0:01:14with a bucket of water.

0:01:14 > 0:01:16Make sure you have a bucket handy

0:01:16 > 0:01:17before you make the leap of faith

0:01:17 > 0:01:19and, when you're close to hitting the ground,

0:01:19 > 0:01:20place the water beneath you

0:01:20 > 0:01:22and you won't take any damage.

0:01:22 > 0:01:25Be careful, though. If you don't time it right, you will take damage

0:01:25 > 0:01:26and possibly lose all of your items.

0:01:26 > 0:01:28Take an ender chest mining with you.

0:01:28 > 0:01:30Whenever you mine anything precious,

0:01:30 > 0:01:33like diamonds or emeralds, put them in the ender chest immediately.

0:01:33 > 0:01:36Then, if you happen to fall into lava or get blown up

0:01:36 > 0:01:38by a creeper, your items will be safe.

0:01:38 > 0:01:40You also won't need to keep going back to the surface

0:01:40 > 0:01:42when your inventory gets full, cos you

0:01:42 > 0:01:44can just put extra items in the ender chest.

0:01:44 > 0:01:46Upside down animals.

0:01:46 > 0:01:48You might already know how to make rainbow sheep

0:01:48 > 0:01:51using the Jeb nametag, but do you also know

0:01:51 > 0:01:52you can turn any mob upside down,

0:01:52 > 0:01:54using the Dinnerbone name tag?

0:01:54 > 0:01:56This looks absolutely hilarious with every mob,

0:01:56 > 0:02:00including your pets, farm animals and even your enemies.

0:02:00 > 0:02:03How to create secret areas and passageways.

0:02:03 > 0:02:05Are you fed up of intruders wandering all over your house,

0:02:05 > 0:02:07uncovering all of your secrets?

0:02:07 > 0:02:10Place a doorway, open the doors and then crouch

0:02:10 > 0:02:12while you paint a huge painting to cover the door.

0:02:12 > 0:02:15Only you will know where to find this secret passageway.

0:02:15 > 0:02:17So there you have it, that's a few tips

0:02:17 > 0:02:20to make your Minecraft experience even better.

0:02:20 > 0:02:23Making the virtual world a better place to be.

0:02:23 > 0:02:25Well, somebody has to.

0:02:25 > 0:02:29Ooh, that's an incoming message from one of you technobabblers.

0:02:29 > 0:02:32Let's open up my new social app.

0:02:32 > 0:02:34What are we calling it this week?

0:02:34 > 0:02:36Vlogsterer?

0:02:36 > 0:02:38Vlogsterer?

0:02:38 > 0:02:41No! It's useless! You might as well have called it Ian.

0:02:41 > 0:02:43Right, let's have that question.

0:02:43 > 0:02:46Vlogster, how will we generate

0:02:46 > 0:02:47energy in the future?

0:02:47 > 0:02:51Ooh, good work, Noah. That's a great question. So...

0:02:51 > 0:02:53who shall I ask to check this one out?

0:02:53 > 0:02:55Eeny, meeny, miny, moe...

0:02:55 > 0:02:57my mate Marcus has to go!

0:02:59 > 0:03:00MARCUS SNORES

0:03:03 > 0:03:05VLOGSTER WHISPERS: Oh, Marcus?

0:03:05 > 0:03:07Marcie Warcie?

0:03:09 > 0:03:12Hang on, technobabblers. This should do it.

0:03:12 > 0:03:13VLOGSTER SHOUTS: Wake up!

0:03:13 > 0:03:15- What? - MARCUS STUTTERS

0:03:15 > 0:03:17Help me! Mum?

0:03:17 > 0:03:18Ha-ha! Got ya!

0:03:18 > 0:03:21Second time this week as well. You should know better, Marcus!

0:03:21 > 0:03:22MARCUS GRUNTS

0:03:22 > 0:03:25Oh, Vlogster. I was having a well good dream!

0:03:25 > 0:03:28Trust you to ruin it. What you want anyways?

0:03:28 > 0:03:29Up and at 'em, dreamboat.

0:03:29 > 0:03:33We've another of the babblers' questions to answer.

0:03:33 > 0:03:35All right, fair enough. But do us a favour.

0:03:35 > 0:03:36Put the kettle on.

0:03:36 > 0:03:38I'm useless unless I've had a little bit of caffeine.

0:03:38 > 0:03:41Perfect, because today you're going to be learning about bio energy

0:03:41 > 0:03:43that comes from waste coffee grounds.

0:03:43 > 0:03:47First up, a local coffee shop, where you can make yourself a cuppa.

0:03:47 > 0:03:49Oh, and while you're at it, I'll have a tall, super skinny,

0:03:49 > 0:03:54extra wet, soya cup of mocha chocaccino latte, please. Thanks.

0:03:58 > 0:04:01I'm going to name this "the Marcus coffee". Let's go.

0:04:03 > 0:04:05Put a bit of pressure on it.

0:04:07 > 0:04:09I washed my hands, don't worry.

0:04:12 > 0:04:14- COFFEE MACHINE WHIRS - And that is a perfect coffee.

0:04:16 > 0:04:19Delicious, but more importantly...

0:04:19 > 0:04:20this is what we're left over with.

0:04:20 > 0:04:23Bingo! And that's where your next mission comes in.

0:04:23 > 0:04:25Now that he's had his caffeine fix,

0:04:25 > 0:04:29I'm sending Marcus to a nearby university to meet techy techspert

0:04:29 > 0:04:33Arthur Kay, who is one of the brains behind Bio-Bean.

0:04:33 > 0:04:36They make energy using coffee. Pretty cool, huh?

0:04:36 > 0:04:40This sounds crazy. Energy from coffee? Explain yourself!

0:04:40 > 0:04:42I know, absolutely.

0:04:42 > 0:04:45I mean, coffee is a strange thing to get energy from, but it has

0:04:45 > 0:04:49a huge amount of it contained within the waste coffee grounds.

0:04:49 > 0:04:52So you get used coffee and, instead of throwing it away,

0:04:52 > 0:04:55you make diesel and fuel pellets from this?

0:04:55 > 0:04:59Yeah, absolutely. So coffee also has a really high oil content,

0:04:59 > 0:05:02so the oil, like you put in your car, for instance,

0:05:02 > 0:05:04for powering transport systems.

0:05:04 > 0:05:06And then the rest is little fuel pellets.

0:05:06 > 0:05:09Instead of wood or coal, you can use this renewable energy,

0:05:09 > 0:05:10which can then heat your building.

0:05:10 > 0:05:12We're even looking at how it can be used

0:05:12 > 0:05:14as a jet fuel, which would be really cool -

0:05:14 > 0:05:15the first coffee-powered plane.

0:05:15 > 0:05:18- I'd love to see how you make this happen.- OK.

0:05:18 > 0:05:21- What we have here, if you can see the little top here.- Mm-hm.

0:05:21 > 0:05:24- There's a tiny little bit of coffee in that there.- Right.

0:05:24 > 0:05:26And what's happening here is we have a solvent,

0:05:26 > 0:05:30which has been warmed up and being passed through the coffee

0:05:30 > 0:05:34and taking the natural oils out from the coffee grounds.

0:05:34 > 0:05:37That process then turns it from, essentially, a vegetable oil

0:05:37 > 0:05:40into a diesel, which can then be used in your car engine

0:05:40 > 0:05:41or your bus engine to get to school.

0:05:41 > 0:05:44How do you think we're going to be making energy

0:05:44 > 0:05:45in about 20 years' time?

0:05:45 > 0:05:47What we're really doing here is we're turning something

0:05:47 > 0:05:49that's wasted into something that's useful.

0:05:49 > 0:05:52Most of your viewers like a chocolate every now and then

0:05:52 > 0:05:55and chocolate waste can actually be used to turn into fuel pellets

0:05:55 > 0:05:56and oils as well.

0:05:56 > 0:05:58So that whole process makes this oil here,

0:05:58 > 0:06:00which you then turn into the fuel?

0:06:00 > 0:06:02- Check that out, Vlogs.- Tasty.

0:06:02 > 0:06:04Biofuel!

0:06:04 > 0:06:06- MARCUS SIGHS - I don't know about you, Vlogster,

0:06:06 > 0:06:09but after all that talk about coffee, I think I need the...

0:06:09 > 0:06:11Hold that thought, Marcus,

0:06:11 > 0:06:14because researchers at the University of West England,

0:06:14 > 0:06:17or UWE for short, have developed a urine-powered battery.

0:06:17 > 0:06:19Are you serious?

0:06:19 > 0:06:20Wee-ally serious!

0:06:20 > 0:06:23Ha-ha! It's all down to tiny microbes that produce electricity

0:06:23 > 0:06:26when they eat organic matter, like urine.

0:06:26 > 0:06:29Right now, the battery creates enough electricity to charge

0:06:29 > 0:06:33a mobile phone, but could soon power a bathroom shower or lights.

0:06:33 > 0:06:35If it's yellow, let it mellow.

0:06:35 > 0:06:39Exactly. Now, Scottish scientists plan to harness energy from the sea

0:06:39 > 0:06:41using giant oysters.

0:06:41 > 0:06:43These buoyant flaps are fixed to the seabed,

0:06:43 > 0:06:46but move backwards and forwards in the waves,

0:06:46 > 0:06:49pumping high-pressure water that drives hydroelectric turbines.

0:06:49 > 0:06:51Does it make an electric current?

0:06:51 > 0:06:54You know, ocean...current? Huh?

0:06:54 > 0:06:55- Don't go there.- Oh.

0:06:55 > 0:06:58Now, ever wondered what a bladeless wind turbine looks like?

0:06:58 > 0:07:01Well, this is it. Spanish techsperts think this wobbly way to harness

0:07:01 > 0:07:05wind energy will be smaller, cheaper and more powerful and...

0:07:05 > 0:07:07VLOGSTER WHISPERS: ..silent. Shh!

0:07:07 > 0:07:09- MARCUS WHISPERS: - Brilliant, Vlogster,

0:07:09 > 0:07:12but I'm really busting, all right?

0:07:12 > 0:07:13Moving swiftly on.

0:07:13 > 0:07:15PHONE RINGS Oh, is that the phone?

0:07:15 > 0:07:17Could someone get that? I can't -

0:07:17 > 0:07:20no hands! PHONE CONTINUES TO RING

0:07:20 > 0:07:23While I sort this, here's Cherry to talk phone games.

0:07:25 > 0:07:27Hi, guys. Aren't phones great?

0:07:27 > 0:07:30And did you know that you can actually play games on your phone?

0:07:30 > 0:07:33Of course you knew! That's the best thing about phones!

0:07:33 > 0:07:36So let's have a look at some of my favourites.

0:07:36 > 0:07:38The first phone game that I want to talk about

0:07:38 > 0:07:39is called Kitchen Scramble.

0:07:39 > 0:07:41Now, I'm not much of a cook in real life,

0:07:41 > 0:07:43but, with this game, I am the ultimate chef

0:07:43 > 0:07:46cooking for hundreds of hungry customers.

0:07:46 > 0:07:48You can upgrade your kitchen to climb up to the top

0:07:48 > 0:07:51of the cooking world, but you must be careful not to

0:07:51 > 0:07:54burn your food and not to leave your customers waiting too long.

0:07:54 > 0:07:57One piece of advice is to memorise what your customers want.

0:07:57 > 0:08:00That way you can start preparing the food ahead of time.

0:08:00 > 0:08:03Now, you might think that awesome platform games can only be

0:08:03 > 0:08:04played best on consoles,

0:08:04 > 0:08:07but Replica Island proves you wrong.

0:08:07 > 0:08:08This is a game where you lead robots

0:08:08 > 0:08:10through over 40 challenging levels.

0:08:10 > 0:08:12Your mission is to discover secrets

0:08:12 > 0:08:13as you fly around,

0:08:13 > 0:08:16collecting germs and squash the bad guys.

0:08:16 > 0:08:19Next up is one of my favourites, which looks simple,

0:08:19 > 0:08:20but it is hard to master.

0:08:20 > 0:08:22- This is Spring Ninja. - SHE MIMICS NINJA NOISE

0:08:22 > 0:08:25Become a Ninja and spring from pillar to post,

0:08:25 > 0:08:28but don't be surprised when you fall off into the ocean.

0:08:28 > 0:08:29This game is extremely frustrating,

0:08:29 > 0:08:31but in the best way possible.

0:08:31 > 0:08:34I'm addicted to trying to beat my top score.

0:08:34 > 0:08:37As a quick tip, pop your phone onto aeroplane mode while you're playing,

0:08:37 > 0:08:40so you're not distracted by those advert pop-ups.

0:08:40 > 0:08:43Those are just some of my favourite phone games. Give them a go.

0:08:45 > 0:08:47I think Cherry's my new favourite.

0:08:47 > 0:08:49I've always liked a lady named after a fruit.

0:08:49 > 0:08:52Heed my advice, people, get permission from your parents

0:08:52 > 0:08:54before you download anything

0:08:54 > 0:08:57and that goes for in-app purchases, too?

0:08:57 > 0:08:58OK, loves?

0:08:58 > 0:09:02BEEPING Ah! That's another notification

0:09:02 > 0:09:04from the Vlogster...Vlogstererer...

0:09:04 > 0:09:08Let's get that changed for next time, please. Here's the message.

0:09:08 > 0:09:11Will we ever be able to record our dreams?

0:09:11 > 0:09:12Dreamy question, Taya.

0:09:12 > 0:09:15Let me access my archive drive.

0:09:16 > 0:09:18No-one really knows why you humans dream, but,

0:09:18 > 0:09:20to be able to record them,

0:09:20 > 0:09:24first you need to know how much data you might be dealing with.

0:09:24 > 0:09:28Scientists think the human brain is made from around 1 billion neurons,

0:09:28 > 0:09:31cells that hold and share information,

0:09:31 > 0:09:33a bit like a computer hard drive.

0:09:33 > 0:09:39The average brain can store close to 2.5 petabytes of memory,

0:09:39 > 0:09:43enough to hold 12 million Technobabble episodes.

0:09:43 > 0:09:45All my favourites.

0:09:45 > 0:09:47Here's a word that you might not know...

0:09:47 > 0:09:48oneironaut.

0:09:48 > 0:09:51An oneironaut is someone that can who can tell they are dreaming

0:09:51 > 0:09:55whilst they're asleep, then take control of their dream.

0:09:55 > 0:09:57This is known as "lucid dreaming"

0:09:57 > 0:10:02and a company in America is developing a way to help you do it.

0:10:02 > 0:10:05When you go to bed, a special headset detects when you are asleep

0:10:05 > 0:10:09and the device uses sound and light to make you aware

0:10:09 > 0:10:10that you are having a dream.

0:10:10 > 0:10:14The idea is that, then, you can take charge of the dream.

0:10:14 > 0:10:17Imagine, you could go anywhere, do anything,

0:10:17 > 0:10:20pretend to be someone amazing!

0:10:20 > 0:10:22Like me.

0:10:22 > 0:10:25Recently, scientists in Japan have found a way to tell

0:10:25 > 0:10:27what people are dreaming. CHEERING ON TELEVISION

0:10:27 > 0:10:30By hooking you up to a special brain-scanning computer,

0:10:30 > 0:10:32then showing you lots of different pictures,

0:10:32 > 0:10:37scientists can map how your brain reacts to each image.

0:10:37 > 0:10:38When you go to sleep,

0:10:38 > 0:10:41the computer compares the dreaming brainwaves to the ones

0:10:41 > 0:10:43your brain made when awake... GUITAR PLAYS

0:10:43 > 0:10:44..and looking at the pictures.

0:10:44 > 0:10:46If the brainwaves match...

0:10:46 > 0:10:47CAR HORN BEEPS ..the computer can guess

0:10:47 > 0:10:50what kind of things you've been dreaming about.

0:10:50 > 0:10:54In tests, it was spot on over 60% of the time.

0:10:54 > 0:10:57Ha! I know what my brain dreams about 100% of the time...

0:10:57 > 0:10:59cats! MEOWING

0:10:59 > 0:11:03Cats dancing the macerena, cats riding a giant space hippo...

0:11:03 > 0:11:04VLOGSTER SIGHS

0:11:04 > 0:11:07With similar brain-mapping techniques, American scientists

0:11:07 > 0:11:11have used computers to create videos of what the brain is seeing.

0:11:11 > 0:11:15The results are basic, but technology is advancing so fast

0:11:15 > 0:11:21that, in 30 years, it may well be possible to record dreams.

0:11:21 > 0:11:23Time to meet our newest blogger, Adam,

0:11:23 > 0:11:27who is here to show us how to make cool animations.

0:11:27 > 0:11:29Hello there!

0:11:29 > 0:11:30HE SHUDDERS

0:11:30 > 0:11:32I'm Adam. What's that?

0:11:32 > 0:11:36You want to make animated cartoons, just like the ones you see on TV?

0:11:36 > 0:11:38That would be cool.

0:11:38 > 0:11:39Oh! I can help you with that.

0:11:39 > 0:11:40The first thing...

0:11:40 > 0:11:42- BIRD CHEEPS - Whoa! Look!

0:11:42 > 0:11:45Oh! Hello there, my small bird friend.

0:11:45 > 0:11:47You could learn with us, too.

0:11:47 > 0:11:48Let's get started.

0:11:48 > 0:11:51- BOING - The first thing you're going to want

0:11:51 > 0:11:52to do is grab a pencil and some paper

0:11:52 > 0:11:55and get to work on designing your very own character.

0:11:55 > 0:11:57Now, you could go for...

0:11:57 > 0:11:58- a cowboy! - HE MIMICS PISTOL

0:11:58 > 0:12:00Or...

0:12:00 > 0:12:01a lady?

0:12:01 > 0:12:04Grab another piece of paper and draw a number of boxes on it.

0:12:04 > 0:12:08In these boxes, you can draw up the different stages of your animation.

0:12:08 > 0:12:09Recording voices for your characters.

0:12:09 > 0:12:11For this step, you'll need a microphone

0:12:11 > 0:12:13and some recording software.

0:12:13 > 0:12:15Hello and welcome to Technobabble.

0:12:15 > 0:12:17Once you're done, go ahead and save your recording,

0:12:17 > 0:12:19so you can use it in your animation programme.

0:12:19 > 0:12:21Animating your animation.

0:12:21 > 0:12:22Now, it's a good idea to draw

0:12:22 > 0:12:24the different parts of your character

0:12:24 > 0:12:25on different layers,

0:12:25 > 0:12:27so you can move them around individually.

0:12:27 > 0:12:28For example, here,

0:12:28 > 0:12:30we've got a head layer for his head,

0:12:30 > 0:12:32a mouth layer, so that we can move

0:12:32 > 0:12:34around with different mouth shapes,

0:12:34 > 0:12:36and a bone layer for the arms and legs,

0:12:36 > 0:12:38so that we can pose them however we want to.

0:12:38 > 0:12:39Now you can go ahead

0:12:39 > 0:12:40and import your voice recording,

0:12:40 > 0:12:42so that you can start to lip-sync.

0:12:42 > 0:12:44So once you've got your animation done and you've saved it,

0:12:44 > 0:12:46it's time for the last step -

0:12:46 > 0:12:47the final edits.

0:12:47 > 0:12:50Here, we can drag in our animation and we can add some music,

0:12:50 > 0:12:53some sound effects, transitions and all kinds of cool stuff

0:12:53 > 0:12:54to make your animation better.

0:12:54 > 0:12:57Once you're done, save it and you can put it online.

0:13:06 > 0:13:10and that doesn't describe twins who both love gadgets.

0:13:11 > 0:13:14Double Geeking is when you use two computers at the same time

0:13:14 > 0:13:18for different tasks, like watching Technobabble on one

0:13:18 > 0:13:21and updating Facebook on the other.

0:13:21 > 0:13:23But it doesn't stop there.

0:13:23 > 0:13:25Triple Geeking is... Are you with me?

0:13:25 > 0:13:28..using THREE computers at the same time!

0:13:28 > 0:13:29And so on.

0:13:39 > 0:13:41Oh, yes, check it!

0:13:41 > 0:13:43My middle name is Bling!
