0:00:25 > 0:00:29So, here's what's coming up on today's birthday bonanza show.
0:00:29 > 0:00:32Kim's back and she's showing us about her world of gaming...
0:00:32 > 0:00:35- Ready?- I'm ready.- Minecraft. - Yeah!- Uh!
0:00:35 > 0:00:37..Marcus has gone all musical...
0:00:37 > 0:00:40FUTURISTIC KEYBOARD PLAYS
0:00:40 > 0:00:43..and Jana's here, and she's storytelling.
0:00:43 > 0:00:46Today, I'm going to show you my favourite apps that will help you
0:00:46 > 0:00:47bring your stories to life.
0:00:47 > 0:00:50Did I mention it's my birthday?
0:00:50 > 0:00:53Guys, stop making a big deal out of it. It's getting embarrassing.
0:00:53 > 0:00:56It's just a birthday. Let's not get carried away.
0:00:56 > 0:00:59BIRTHDAY KAZOO SOUNDS Nicky and Sammy, don't let me down.
0:01:03 > 0:01:05Hello, Technobabble. Guess where we are?
0:01:05 > 0:01:07We're at CBBC Live And Digital, Hull.
0:01:09 > 0:01:11I'm outside the Technobabble tent and here
0:01:11 > 0:01:14we're going to see the micro:bit, which is a tiny, small computer with
0:01:14 > 0:01:17loads of LED lights, and you can use it in so many ways
0:01:17 > 0:01:19it's unimaginable.
0:01:19 > 0:01:20Look, it's Marcus!
0:01:23 > 0:01:26I'm trying to get Nicky to work but he found a game console.
0:01:29 > 0:01:33I've broken it because it's just spinning around in a circle.
0:01:33 > 0:01:37Pudsey, it's Pudsey. Pudsey, can I have a hug? Ah!
0:01:37 > 0:01:41Don't let go. Still, don't let go.
0:01:41 > 0:01:43- We're with Dangermouse!- Yey!- Yey!
0:01:46 > 0:01:48OK, I found the Doctor Who tent
0:01:48 > 0:01:50and my inner fangirl cannot contain itself.
0:01:50 > 0:01:52You can play the Dalek game... Doctor Who, make a game?
0:01:52 > 0:01:55OK, I can't wait any longer. Let's do this.
0:01:57 > 0:01:59# We're about to go on stage! #
0:02:07 > 0:02:09Oh, do a selfie! I want a selfie!
0:02:11 > 0:02:13So, that is the end of our Technobabble vlog.
0:02:13 > 0:02:16We hope you enjoyed seeing behind the scenes of CBBC Live And Digital in Hull.
0:02:16 > 0:02:19We've had an amazing time in Hull. We've met so many of you guys.
0:02:19 > 0:02:22It was awesome. So, back to you, Vlogster.
0:02:22 > 0:02:25So, what terrible name have I come up with this week for the message app?
0:02:25 > 0:02:27Vlog's Log!
0:02:27 > 0:02:30Oh, that's worse than I remembered.
0:02:30 > 0:02:33Vlogster, what is the future of music?
0:02:33 > 0:02:35Sound question. I love music.
0:02:35 > 0:02:37# Happy birthday to you
0:02:37 > 0:02:43# Congratulations Celebrate good times, come on. #
0:02:43 > 0:02:46There's loads of great music out there. Marcus is me man for this.
0:02:58 > 0:03:02Say "cheese" Marcus! What are you up to?
0:03:02 > 0:03:05Hey, Vlogster. Well, it's a lovely morning, so I thought I'd go for a
0:03:05 > 0:03:08little stroll, take a few pictures, try out my new camera.
0:03:08 > 0:03:11Yes, I'm liking this bit of kit.
0:03:11 > 0:03:14I look GOOD from this angle.
0:03:14 > 0:03:18Well, one of your better sides, Volgster. If you had sides, that is.
0:03:18 > 0:03:21- So, what have you got for me today? - One of our babblers wants to know
0:03:21 > 0:03:23what the future of music is going to be like
0:03:23 > 0:03:27- and you ARE music, my man. - Music? I love music.
0:03:27 > 0:03:30I've even got my own radio show. Once, I even interviewed...
0:03:30 > 0:03:32Yeah, yeah, yeah. Off you trot, then.
0:03:32 > 0:03:34Quicker than an epic dubstep drop.
0:03:34 > 0:03:38I'm sending Marcus to an exciting London design company who've
0:03:38 > 0:03:40been working on a new kind of musical instrument.
0:03:40 > 0:03:43He's going to meet their top dog, Roland Lamb,
0:03:43 > 0:03:47to discover everything this is to know about their radical keyboard.
0:03:47 > 0:03:50So, this is a Seaboard, then? Sounds pretty exciting.
0:03:50 > 0:03:52What exactly does it do?
0:03:52 > 0:03:56Instead of having all those old school separate keys,
0:03:56 > 0:03:59you've got this one continuous, wave-like surface.
0:03:59 > 0:04:01So, we took the keys of the keyboard
0:04:01 > 0:04:05- and made it into this waves of a Seaboard.- Right.
0:04:05 > 0:04:06Um, how do you play it?
0:04:06 > 0:04:10We've come up with these five different dimensions of touch.
0:04:10 > 0:04:12- Right.- So, the first dimension is how you strike.
0:04:12 > 0:04:16- I can strike gently or I can strike it hard.- Right.
0:04:16 > 0:04:19Then, secondly, you can control how you press after
0:04:19 > 0:04:21you've, like, had your strike.
0:04:21 > 0:04:24Then you can glide to the left or the right,
0:04:24 > 0:04:27or you can slide up or down on the key.
0:04:27 > 0:04:30And then also, how you lift off, you can change the sound.
0:04:30 > 0:04:33That is so cool. Um, how does the technology
0:04:33 > 0:04:35behind this actually work?
0:04:35 > 0:04:40The Seaboard has like a huge array of sensors underneath
0:04:40 > 0:04:45this soft surface, so it can detect exactly how you're touching it,
0:04:45 > 0:04:47and where you're touching it - all those dimensions of touch.
0:04:47 > 0:04:50And then the electronics read that information,
0:04:50 > 0:04:53and they turn it into data that can be read
0:04:53 > 0:04:58by our software, and then our software turns that data into sound.
0:04:58 > 0:05:01So, what does this tech mean for the future of music?
0:05:01 > 0:05:05Well, I think it's going to make it much easier for people to make
0:05:05 > 0:05:09all the different possible sounds that different instruments can
0:05:09 > 0:05:10make with one instrument.
0:05:10 > 0:05:13So, it makes it easier for people to make music at home,
0:05:13 > 0:05:16or in their bedrooms, because instead of having to like learn
0:05:16 > 0:05:19all these different instruments, they can learn the Seaboard
0:05:19 > 0:05:22and access this huge palette of possible sounds.
0:05:22 > 0:05:25I'm really excited about this. Can I, please, have a go?
0:05:25 > 0:05:27Absolutely! Yeah, we have one set up in the studio.
0:05:27 > 0:05:30- Why don't you come and take a look?- Thank you.- Alright.
0:05:30 > 0:05:33And to help you, Marcus, is a virtuoso called Marco.
0:05:33 > 0:05:36- Can you should me how to play... - Sure.- ..a Seaboard Rise, please?
0:05:36 > 0:05:40- Let's say we can play in C... - I see what you did there, C.
0:05:40 > 0:05:42- LAUGHS - C. Then G, we go...
0:05:42 > 0:05:46And then C again. So, we can play...
0:05:47 > 0:05:50- Every note is cool.- Alright. So, if you do the low bit
0:05:50 > 0:05:52- and I'll do the high bit. - OK.- Let's go.
0:05:52 > 0:05:57THEY PLAY
0:06:06 > 0:06:08I've never played an instrument like it. I love it.
0:06:08 > 0:06:11- Thank you very much, Marco. - My pleasure.
0:06:11 > 0:06:13Tell you what, Vlogster, after all of that talk about music,
0:06:13 > 0:06:15I'm RIGHT in the mood for a bit of karaoke.
0:06:15 > 0:06:17Marcus, I thought you'd never ask!
0:06:17 > 0:06:21# Never gonna give you up Never gonna let you down
0:06:21 > 0:06:25# Never gonna run around and hurt you. #
0:06:25 > 0:06:27Maybe something...a little more up to date, Vlogs?
0:06:27 > 0:06:29Hey, I can do modern.
0:06:29 > 0:06:33How about a piece of music you can hold in your hand?
0:06:33 > 0:06:36A company in New York has developed tech that transforms
0:06:36 > 0:06:39sound into a sculpture you can see, hear, feel and touch.
0:06:39 > 0:06:41Making an object out of music?
0:06:41 > 0:06:43That blows my mind a little bit, Vlogster.
0:06:43 > 0:06:46A bit too abstract for you, young Marcus?
0:06:46 > 0:06:50Well, how about this? Music straight from your brain.
0:06:50 > 0:06:54- My brain?- Maybe not your brain. A slightly more brilliant brain.
0:06:54 > 0:06:59American artist Lisa Park makes music using a special headset
0:06:59 > 0:07:03that reads her brain's electrical activity and minuscule eye movements.
0:07:03 > 0:07:05Then, clever computer software translates her
0:07:05 > 0:07:10brainwaves into sounds and vibrations to make thought music!
0:07:10 > 0:07:14- I think that's awesome, like totally.- Tortilla, did you say?
0:07:14 > 0:07:18Well, here's another slice of hi tech genius - music you can eat.
0:07:18 > 0:07:19- What?- That's right.
0:07:19 > 0:07:23Dwight Chia from San Diego has taken the humble flour tortilla
0:07:23 > 0:07:27and turned it into a playable record using a laser etching machine.
0:07:27 > 0:07:31It takes half an hour for the laser to cut the track's grooves
0:07:31 > 0:07:35into the tortilla, then the record will play for about 30 seconds.
0:07:35 > 0:07:38As ideas go, Vlogster, that's hard to burrito.
0:07:38 > 0:07:40Sorry, Marcus, let's call that a wrap! Ha!
0:07:42 > 0:07:45"It was not the first time someone had forgotten his birth.
0:07:45 > 0:07:48"He sat alone at the table and blew out the candles and sighed.
0:07:48 > 0:07:50HE SIGHS Why him?
0:07:52 > 0:07:54Oh, sorry, viewers. I was just remembering a story.
0:07:54 > 0:07:57Anyway, here's Jana to do it better.
0:07:57 > 0:07:59Hey, everyone. Aren't stories great?
0:07:59 > 0:08:01Anything can be a story. Whatever your story is,
0:08:01 > 0:08:04today I'm going to show you my favourite apps that will help
0:08:04 > 0:08:07you bring your stories to life and have a lot of fun doing it.
0:08:07 > 0:08:09First up is Coosi Box.
0:08:09 > 0:08:10This app will make your little
0:08:10 > 0:08:12doodles come to life in animation.
0:08:12 > 0:08:14So, all you have to do is create
0:08:14 > 0:08:15a little drawing using shapes
0:08:15 > 0:08:17and colours, and it can be as simple
0:08:17 > 0:08:19or as complicated as you'd like.
0:08:19 > 0:08:21The app will then take your drawing
0:08:21 > 0:08:25and create an interactive animation based around your drawing.
0:08:25 > 0:08:28Little Story Creator is a great app for storytelling
0:08:28 > 0:08:30because it's really customisable.
0:08:30 > 0:08:32There are so many things you can add
0:08:32 > 0:08:33to each slide, from drawings to
0:08:33 > 0:08:36pictures, to texts and emojis.
0:08:36 > 0:08:37So, you can use all of these tools
0:08:37 > 0:08:40to share really cool stories with your friends.
0:08:40 > 0:08:43If you love cartoons and animation, this next app is for you.
0:08:43 > 0:08:45Easy Studio teaches you have to
0:08:45 > 0:08:46make your very own animation
0:08:46 > 0:08:48out of different shapes
0:08:48 > 0:08:49and it's so easy to learn.
0:08:49 > 0:08:51All you have to do is move the little
0:08:51 > 0:08:52shapes around, however you want,
0:08:52 > 0:08:55and there are a lot of themes to choose from.
0:08:55 > 0:08:56Make a snowman come to life
0:08:56 > 0:08:58by moving around two white circles.
0:08:58 > 0:09:00And an orange triangle,
0:09:00 > 0:09:01for the nose, of course.
0:09:01 > 0:09:04So, what are you waiting for? It's time to get creative.
0:09:04 > 0:09:09Thank you, lovely Jana. Ooh, she's got me a birthday card. How kind.
0:09:09 > 0:09:12What kind wishes has Jana sent? "Don't download apps without
0:09:12 > 0:09:16"permission and that includes the in-app purchases.
0:09:16 > 0:09:19"Oh, yeah. Happy Birthday, as well."
0:09:19 > 0:09:21Never has there been a truer birthday card sent.
0:09:21 > 0:09:25Right, back to Vlog's Log. Oh, that's just wrong.
0:09:25 > 0:09:28Hey, Vlogster, is there a chance I could live forever?
0:09:28 > 0:09:30Ooh, deep. Let's see.
0:09:30 > 0:09:34Some people who want to live forever choose to have their bodies,
0:09:34 > 0:09:39or even just their heads, frozen using liquid nitrogen.
0:09:39 > 0:09:42This is known as cryonic suspension.
0:09:42 > 0:09:46By super-cooling things down this way, bacteria can't multiply,
0:09:46 > 0:09:49so cells in the body can survive much longer,
0:09:49 > 0:09:53but as yet no-one has ever been successfully unfrozen.
0:09:53 > 0:09:56And though the clever cooling people are hopeful it will happen
0:09:56 > 0:10:00one day, they don't think that will be any time soon.
0:10:00 > 0:10:02There's another problem with cryonic suspension -
0:10:02 > 0:10:04you need to have popped your clogs first.
0:10:04 > 0:10:08So, even if you could be successfully thawed out, you'd have to be
0:10:08 > 0:10:12brought back to life too after, potentially, a few hundred years.
0:10:12 > 0:10:16Australian scientists have been doing tests on mice to rebuild
0:10:16 > 0:10:19the broken cells and muscles that cause ageing.
0:10:19 > 0:10:22They've been able to restore a two-year-old mouse back to the
0:10:22 > 0:10:24health of a six-month-old.
0:10:24 > 0:10:27That's the same as making your grandma as fit and as active
0:10:27 > 0:10:29as she was when she was 25!
0:10:29 > 0:10:33Tests on humans are now taking place and some scientists think that,
0:10:33 > 0:10:36one day, all you'll need to do to stop from growing old
0:10:36 > 0:10:38is take a few tablets.
0:10:38 > 0:10:41Although, that could set you back £20,000 a day.
0:10:41 > 0:10:44Other life-preserving boffins from around the world are working
0:10:44 > 0:10:47on a map of the human brain called The Connectome.
0:10:47 > 0:10:51By better understanding how memories are made, researchers hope to make
0:10:51 > 0:10:56a computer model of the brain that can store and recall old memories.
0:10:56 > 0:10:59In the future it might mean that your grandchildren could
0:10:59 > 0:11:01see your memories well after you've gone.
0:11:01 > 0:11:03The next step would be for people to make
0:11:03 > 0:11:06a copy of their brain on a computer.
0:11:06 > 0:11:08Then, by uploading it into a robot,
0:11:08 > 0:11:11humans could essentially live forever.
0:11:12 > 0:11:15Whoa. Forever is a mighty long time.
0:11:15 > 0:11:18Hey, Kim, show me your life.
0:11:20 > 0:11:23Hi, there! So, I've been asked to show you guys
0:11:23 > 0:11:24what the life of a YouTuber
0:11:24 > 0:11:27is like and have you follow me around today
0:11:27 > 0:11:28while I get to business.
0:11:30 > 0:11:32So, here we are in Yog Towers,
0:11:32 > 0:11:34which is a fancy name for our office, really.
0:11:34 > 0:11:39We're really lucky in that we have editors to help us with our work.
0:11:39 > 0:11:43This is my desk. This is where some of the magic happens.
0:11:43 > 0:11:47Here, I've got all my lovely fan art from fan members
0:11:47 > 0:11:49who've sent it all in.
0:11:50 > 0:11:52- This is Duncan.- Hello! - He's my partner in crime.
0:11:52 > 0:11:56We're going to go and film some Minecraft, now. You ready for this?
0:11:56 > 0:11:59- I'm ready!- You ready?- I'm ready! - Minecraft!- Yeah!- Uh!
0:12:02 > 0:12:05I've got the Satyr...uh, fire it!
0:12:05 > 0:12:07- Wooh-hoo-hoo-hoo.- I'm at the Dinosaur Pens, I don't see you.
0:12:07 > 0:12:09Like, over the other side.
0:12:09 > 0:12:11So, this is our art team.
0:12:11 > 0:12:14They're working very hard on posters at the moment.
0:12:14 > 0:12:17Adrian and I have been working on a Minecraft series that I'm
0:12:17 > 0:12:20hoping to get set up on my channel.
0:12:20 > 0:12:21'Captain's Log, Supplemental.
0:12:21 > 0:12:24'We're currently in orbit of the planet, Miranda,
0:12:24 > 0:12:26'making minor repairs to the ship.'
0:12:26 > 0:12:29Well, it's been a pretty long day and I'm back in the car now,
0:12:29 > 0:12:31ready to head home. Doesn't mean I'm done though.
0:12:31 > 0:12:33I need to go home and do some uploading.
0:12:33 > 0:12:34So, there you go.
0:12:34 > 0:12:37I hope you enjoyed getting a look at a slice of life as a YouTuber.
0:12:37 > 0:12:40Thanks, Kim. Well, just before I head off and celebrate me
0:12:40 > 0:12:45birthday in the wormhole, we just have time for a quick Babblebuster.
0:12:45 > 0:12:47I keep forgetting, did I mention it's me birthday?
0:12:47 > 0:12:5016 gigabytes today. Ooh!
0:12:50 > 0:12:54B is for birthday, but it's also for Bluetooth,
0:12:54 > 0:12:56and I'm not talking about the latest dragon to join
0:12:56 > 0:12:59Hiccup on the Island of Berk.
0:12:59 > 0:13:01Bluetooth is a wireless link that lets you send
0:13:01 > 0:13:05data between your devices without needing them to be physically joined.
0:13:05 > 0:13:08It was named after Denmark's 10th century king
0:13:08 > 0:13:10Harald Blatand Gormsson,
0:13:10 > 0:13:15who was so fond of eating blueberries that they stained his teeth blue.
0:13:15 > 0:13:18Harald wouldn't believe what Bluetooth boffins are creating now,
0:13:18 > 0:13:22like a medical device that monitors your body's vital statistics
0:13:22 > 0:13:23to check your health,
0:13:23 > 0:13:26just like Dr McCoy's Tricorder in Star Trek.
0:13:28 > 0:13:30And that's your lot. Birthday byes!
0:13:32 > 0:13:34Next time on Technobabble...
0:13:34 > 0:13:36Mia steps into an augmented reality...
0:13:36 > 0:13:38I'm a penguin! Woo!
0:13:40 > 0:13:42..Eva's got some Easter eggs...
0:13:42 > 0:13:46Chocolate not included, though do feel free to bring your own.
0:13:46 > 0:13:50..and Little Jake's back and he's got some cool phone games.
0:13:50 > 0:13:52Let the destruction begin.
