0:00:02 > 0:00:04In one week, these singers must sing live on BBC One

0:00:04 > 0:00:07to an audience of 11 million on Children In Need...

0:00:07 > 0:00:10This is the biggest thing I've ever done and I'm scared.

0:00:10 > 0:00:14- ..but the song still isn't right... - No, stop swooping.

0:00:14 > 0:00:17..their nerves aren't yet under control...

0:00:17 > 0:00:19You have a few hundred people in front,

0:00:19 > 0:00:21but down that camera there's millions.

0:00:21 > 0:00:24..and Gareth is facing his toughest decision yet.

0:00:24 > 0:00:26'This is 11 million people,'

0:00:26 > 0:00:29it's got to be musically right, it's got to look confident

0:00:29 > 0:00:32- and got to sound great. - Who will be the soloist?

0:00:32 > 0:00:35I want to be the Children In Need soloist, like, more than anything.

0:00:35 > 0:00:38I really, really want it badly. I want it badly!

0:00:38 > 0:00:43The person singing solo live on Children In Need is...

0:00:43 > 0:00:46This is The Big Performance Two.

0:01:08 > 0:01:12Today the Big Performance bus returns to London,

0:01:12 > 0:01:15where the tour began ten weeks ago.

0:01:15 > 0:01:19The final event, singing on Children In Need, is just days away.

0:01:19 > 0:01:23This week is such an important week, facing up to the challenge ahead.

0:01:23 > 0:01:27Choirmaster Gareth Malone has tried every trick up his sleeve

0:01:27 > 0:01:30to get these shy singers to forget their bullied past.

0:01:30 > 0:01:33Now each of them wants to stand out and lead the group.

0:01:33 > 0:01:37They've all tried out for the solo, but now it's time to pick someone.

0:01:37 > 0:01:41It's nerve-wracking. I want to be the soloist. So does everyone else.

0:01:41 > 0:01:44- I've got bad butterflies in my belly.- Really want it really bad.

0:01:44 > 0:01:49Children In Need is really, really close and I'm really, really scared!

0:01:49 > 0:01:51Since they began ten weeks ago,

0:01:51 > 0:01:54the group has been working towards this final challenge,

0:01:54 > 0:01:58singing to the nation on Children In Need.

0:01:58 > 0:02:00For their final rehearsals,

0:02:00 > 0:02:04Gareth has brought them to Alexandra Palace, the home of live TV.

0:02:05 > 0:02:07I don't think I need to tell you

0:02:07 > 0:02:10how big the Children In Need performance is.

0:02:10 > 0:02:13Everyone's eyes will be on us at that moment.

0:02:13 > 0:02:18It's never been more important that we sing to the best of our abilities.

0:02:18 > 0:02:21In their first lesson, they were too afraid to perform.

0:02:21 > 0:02:24MUMBLING: # Nothing you could say. #

0:02:24 > 0:02:26Now their confidence has grown,

0:02:26 > 0:02:30but they must perfect their vocal quality.

0:02:30 > 0:02:34# There's nothing you could say There's nothing you could do. #

0:02:34 > 0:02:37That, for me, is the right sort of volume,

0:02:37 > 0:02:40especially for that beginning bit,

0:02:40 > 0:02:43but what isn't there is the intensity.

0:02:43 > 0:02:45Really meaning the words.

0:02:45 > 0:02:49It's not just in your eyes and your face and here, it's your whole body.

0:02:49 > 0:02:53You've got to feel it! # Keep holding on. #

0:02:53 > 0:02:56It's not feeling like, "Yeah!" Give me that intensity.

0:02:56 > 0:02:57# You're not alone

0:02:57 > 0:03:00# Together we stand

0:03:00 > 0:03:03# I'll be by your side You know I'll take your hand

0:03:05 > 0:03:10# Keep holding on. #

0:03:10 > 0:03:12I loved the intensity, that was fantastic!

0:03:12 > 0:03:16Just not, # Keep hol... ra RA ra. #

0:03:16 > 0:03:18I need clean notes.

0:03:18 > 0:03:21With such little time to go until their national debut,

0:03:21 > 0:03:25- Gareth's standards are high. - # Keep holding on... #

0:03:25 > 0:03:28No! Stop swooping.

0:03:28 > 0:03:32# Holding o-o-on. # Can you hear the difference?

0:03:32 > 0:03:34I'm asking a lot of them quite deliberately

0:03:34 > 0:03:36cos I think the occasion demands it.

0:03:36 > 0:03:38We need great singing, a fantastic soloist,

0:03:38 > 0:03:41so I need someone who is solid as a rock,

0:03:41 > 0:03:43who doesn't flinch in that final performance.

0:03:43 > 0:03:46At the start of the Big Performance Tour,

0:03:46 > 0:03:49all ten singers were petrified of leading the group.

0:03:49 > 0:03:54Who feels like they could do a solo in front of the nation? No?

0:03:54 > 0:03:57- I think I'd stumble when I'm singing.- I'd just freeze.

0:03:57 > 0:04:00One by one they tried out for the solo spot

0:04:00 > 0:04:03and now they're all DESPERATE to be chosen.

0:04:03 > 0:04:06So Gareth is giving them one more chance to re-audition

0:04:06 > 0:04:09and prove how far they've come.

0:04:09 > 0:04:11This is what everything has been about.

0:04:11 > 0:04:13This moment where I pick the soloist is so important.

0:04:13 > 0:04:17Gareth will be choosing a shortlist of just five.

0:04:17 > 0:04:20# You're not alone Together we stand... #

0:04:20 > 0:04:24# I'll be by your side You know I'll take your... # Ahem.

0:04:24 > 0:04:28# When it gets cold And it feels like the end... #

0:04:28 > 0:04:32# There's no place to go You know I won't give in... #

0:04:32 > 0:04:37# Keep holding on... #

0:04:37 > 0:04:40When I was put on the spot it was really, really scary.

0:04:40 > 0:04:43I can normally cope with the pressure of performing

0:04:43 > 0:04:44in front of the group,

0:04:44 > 0:04:48but performing and knowing that you're being judged to get the solo,

0:04:48 > 0:04:50that is a lot harder.

0:04:50 > 0:04:52It's not down to this moment, there's more to consider,

0:04:52 > 0:04:56there's how they've reacted, they've worked, how they performed.

0:04:56 > 0:04:58That I'm taking into consideration.

0:04:58 > 0:05:01# Keep holding on... #

0:05:03 > 0:05:04# You know you're going to make it through... #

0:05:04 > 0:05:05# Make it through... #

0:05:05 > 0:05:07I know that was really difficult,

0:05:07 > 0:05:11BUT let's remember how far we have come.

0:05:11 > 0:05:15Could you have done that ten weeks ago? NO WAY!

0:05:15 > 0:05:19I'm really proud of all of you. Well done.

0:05:19 > 0:05:21The once timid group are unrecognisable.

0:05:21 > 0:05:25All of them now want to make Gareth's final five.

0:05:25 > 0:05:28I want to be the Children In Need soloist more than anything.

0:05:28 > 0:05:32It's so massive to me. I want to be the soloist so bad.

0:05:32 > 0:05:36I don't think it was good enough at all, I think I really messed it up.

0:05:36 > 0:05:39The first person on the shortlist is...

0:05:43 > 0:05:45Molly.

0:05:47 > 0:05:49James.

0:05:50 > 0:05:51Tia.

0:05:54 > 0:05:57Joan.

0:05:58 > 0:06:01- Sasha.- Oh, my God!

0:06:03 > 0:06:04No giggling, please.

0:06:04 > 0:06:08I'm going to do as well as I can because I believe in myself.

0:06:08 > 0:06:12I can't believe I've got a chance of doing the solo.

0:06:12 > 0:06:15I think the soloists have got a really big job on their hands

0:06:15 > 0:06:17but I'll be at the back supporting them.

0:06:17 > 0:06:20Just think, a million people... I can do it.

0:06:20 > 0:06:23They've made it this far, but it's not over yet.

0:06:23 > 0:06:29Everyone on the shortlist will have to re-audition later for the solo.

0:06:29 > 0:06:31In front of...

0:06:31 > 0:06:33Scouting For Girls.

0:06:33 > 0:06:37Scouting For Girls have sold over 1.2 million albums

0:06:37 > 0:06:42and been nominated for a Brit and Ivor Novello award.

0:06:42 > 0:06:45They know what level of performance will be needed from the soloists.

0:06:45 > 0:06:48# Do, do, do, do... #

0:06:48 > 0:06:52When they sing on Children In Need, it'll be to 11 million viewers.

0:06:52 > 0:06:56Performing on the same stage as singing superstars,

0:06:56 > 0:06:58they've a lot to live up to.

0:06:58 > 0:07:01Spice Girls legend Melanie C helped the group

0:07:01 > 0:07:04with their live radio performance, earlier on in the tour.

0:07:04 > 0:07:07Whenever you're performing, if you can identify with the words

0:07:07 > 0:07:10you're singing, you're going to get the best performance.

0:07:10 > 0:07:13Now she's back to inspire the group with their very own private gig.

0:07:13 > 0:07:16# I've been waiting right here

0:07:16 > 0:07:18# For things to get better... #

0:07:18 > 0:07:22It was really cool to see Melanie C again.

0:07:22 > 0:07:24It just helps everyone out.

0:07:24 > 0:07:26And, boy, can she turn on a performance.

0:07:26 > 0:07:28We need to do that when we get to Children In Need.

0:07:28 > 0:07:31It can't be half measures, it's got to be 100%.

0:07:31 > 0:07:35# Why do I feel so weak?

0:07:35 > 0:07:38# So weak

0:07:38 > 0:07:41# So weak

0:07:43 > 0:07:46So weak #

0:07:46 > 0:07:48APPLAUSE

0:07:48 > 0:07:50- Did she look nervous? - No.- No, not at all.

0:07:50 > 0:07:53You have to be like that on stage. You owe it to the audience.

0:07:53 > 0:07:56When we sing, you have to really concentrate,

0:07:56 > 0:07:58but you just go straight in there.

0:07:58 > 0:08:01It's difficult, you do find your concentration wandering.

0:08:01 > 0:08:03You may have a few hundred people in front of you,

0:08:03 > 0:08:05but down that camera there'll be millions.

0:08:05 > 0:08:09If you're enjoying yourself, people will enjoy watching you,

0:08:09 > 0:08:13enjoying yourself. That's the most important thing to remember.

0:08:13 > 0:08:17She was fixed on the song and wasn't bothered about the audience.

0:08:17 > 0:08:19She was just bothered about giving a good performance.

0:08:19 > 0:08:21That's what I need to do.

0:08:21 > 0:08:24From the minute Melanie walks into the room, she's performing.

0:08:24 > 0:08:28As soon as the song started, she was lost in the words, lost in the music.

0:08:28 > 0:08:30That's what you need.

0:08:30 > 0:08:32OK, we haven't been in the Spice Girls

0:08:32 > 0:08:35and we haven't been around the world, but we are capable of that.

0:08:35 > 0:08:39These guys need to give 100%, because anything less is not good enough.

0:08:39 > 0:08:41When the group sing on live TV,

0:08:41 > 0:08:44they'll be leading Gareth's nationwide choir

0:08:44 > 0:08:46and they'll need to take to the stage like professionals,

0:08:46 > 0:08:50which means a slick performance in every way.

0:08:50 > 0:08:54When we perform at Children In Need, we need to have the full package.

0:08:54 > 0:08:57It's no good just standing there and singing well,

0:08:57 > 0:08:59we've got to have choreography.

0:08:59 > 0:09:02When I say, "choreography" I don't just mean

0:09:02 > 0:09:05busting out some of your best moves.

0:09:05 > 0:09:07I mean, looking slick, have full presentation.

0:09:07 > 0:09:10Briony, make us look good.

0:09:10 > 0:09:13Briony's danced for countless stars on stage and on screen.

0:09:13 > 0:09:15Alesha Dixon, Madonna and Robbie Williams.

0:09:15 > 0:09:19Now she's worked out some choreography to make the group

0:09:19 > 0:09:21look slick and synchronised.

0:09:21 > 0:09:24So, first of all, we need to think about stage presence,

0:09:24 > 0:09:27heads up, looking confident. The first move's this.

0:09:27 > 0:09:30The second move is this.

0:09:30 > 0:09:33The third move is this and the fourth move is this. Exactly!

0:09:33 > 0:09:36The bigger and clearer you make it, the better.

0:09:36 > 0:09:41# Keep holding on... #

0:09:41 > 0:09:43Yes! It's going to look good, I can tell.

0:09:43 > 0:09:46I think it's easier to sing the song with choreography

0:09:46 > 0:09:51because you get more into the song and it's a lot more enjoyable.

0:09:51 > 0:09:52The group are more synchronised,

0:09:52 > 0:09:55but they're still not convincing Briony and Gareth.

0:09:55 > 0:09:57Your voice is really beautiful.

0:09:57 > 0:10:00But your face to me is saying, "I'm not enjoying myself that much."

0:10:00 > 0:10:05Now, this time, just give me a little bit of a smile, everyone cos all of you weren't smiling.

0:10:05 > 0:10:06I was looking at you, sorry.

0:10:06 > 0:10:10It's important to smile, or you won't look like you're enjoying it.

0:10:10 > 0:10:15The hardest thing is to perform and smile and remember your moves and remember your words.

0:10:15 > 0:10:18Briony picked up on it immediately. They simply weren't smiling.

0:10:18 > 0:10:20Now I want you guys to do it happy.

0:10:20 > 0:10:24Present to me like you're enjoying yourself so much. Here we go.

0:10:24 > 0:10:29# Just stay strong

0:10:29 > 0:10:32# Cos you know I'm here for you I'm here for you... #

0:10:32 > 0:10:34'I'll make sure I put a lot of expression'

0:10:34 > 0:10:35into my singing and that.

0:10:35 > 0:10:37Just make sure I can do the best that I can do.

0:10:37 > 0:10:40'Do you know what? I don't even recognise Tia.'

0:10:40 > 0:10:45She's dancing, she's moving, she's standing up taller, singing with confidence, really good to see.

0:10:45 > 0:10:50# Keep holding on

0:10:50 > 0:10:53# Cos you know we'll make it through Make it through... #

0:10:53 > 0:10:55The audience are going to be here,

0:10:55 > 0:10:58so let's make sure that we're looking at our audience.

0:10:58 > 0:11:00It's really vital that they get this cos the camera could be

0:11:00 > 0:11:02on any of them at any time.

0:11:02 > 0:11:05Their whole family will be watching, their whole school will be watching,

0:11:05 > 0:11:09the whole town will be watching, the whole country will be watching. It's got to be right.

0:11:09 > 0:11:12It's an extremely daunting challenge

0:11:12 > 0:11:15but the once-shy performers are feeling determined.

0:11:15 > 0:11:18Now we have to pull together as a group and just practise, practise.

0:11:18 > 0:11:22If you get stuck you have moves to help you with the words.

0:11:22 > 0:11:25For me that was a really proud moment cos

0:11:25 > 0:11:28they went from standing there looking miserable,

0:11:28 > 0:11:31to looking quite professional with moves and attitude

0:11:31 > 0:11:33and their faces were all smiley - I was really proud of them.

0:11:33 > 0:11:36I think it could be great if they do it like that.

0:11:40 > 0:11:43In a matter of minutes, five of the group will re-audition

0:11:43 > 0:11:47for the solo spot in front of Gareth and Scouting For Girls.

0:11:47 > 0:11:50How do the stars keep their cool before a big performance?

0:11:50 > 0:11:53All the thinking about being nervous and what's coming up,

0:11:53 > 0:11:57- that's when it really gets to you. - You're going to panic.

0:11:57 > 0:12:00Yeah. So don't think about it till just before you go on stage.

0:12:00 > 0:12:04Physically you should warm up yourself before you perform.

0:12:04 > 0:12:06If you can do ten press-ups

0:12:06 > 0:12:11or sit-ups or sprint on the spot, just to get your blood pumping and get your adrenaline going.

0:12:11 > 0:12:15I always warm up on my guitar, I do scales and everything.

0:12:15 > 0:12:18And then I get all excited with my band, probably jump around,

0:12:18 > 0:12:22have a massive smile on my face and just get psyched up for the show.

0:12:22 > 0:12:26When Gareth first met the singers they were too scared

0:12:26 > 0:12:28to perform in front of him, now five of them will be

0:12:28 > 0:12:31singing for their chance as the Big Performance soloist.

0:12:31 > 0:12:35This has got to be a tough audition cos they have such a big task ahead of them.

0:12:35 > 0:12:38If they forget words and crumble and fall apart and start to cry,

0:12:38 > 0:12:40that's really going to affect my faith in them

0:12:40 > 0:12:43to be able to pull off that performance at the end.

0:12:43 > 0:12:46Gareth will pick two to lead the group in a very special

0:12:46 > 0:12:48performance later today.

0:12:48 > 0:12:51I've picked the five singers that I think could do this performance

0:12:51 > 0:12:54and really pull it off well.

0:12:54 > 0:12:59In that five, one of them will be my soloist but I don't know who yet.

0:12:59 > 0:13:01Hoping it's her,

0:13:01 > 0:13:05first to face the judging panel is 12-year-old Molly from Coventry.

0:13:05 > 0:13:09I feel like all excited but nervous at the same time.

0:13:09 > 0:13:12I just want to have the confidence to do it and show that

0:13:12 > 0:13:16I can be that person that stands up on the stage and sings by myself.

0:13:19 > 0:13:22Let's get the first one in. Molly, come on in.

0:13:23 > 0:13:29When Gareth first met Molly, she'd be so severely bullied she could barely look anyone in the eye.

0:13:29 > 0:13:33# There is a castle on a cloud... #

0:13:33 > 0:13:38Can she now show she's got what it takes for centre stage in front of millions?

0:13:38 > 0:13:43# There are a hundred boys and girls

0:13:43 > 0:13:47# Nobody shouts or talks too loud. #

0:13:47 > 0:13:49Thank you, Molly, well done.

0:13:49 > 0:13:52I think I've changed from my first audition.

0:13:52 > 0:13:56I think I've got more confidence and I'm not the same person. I'm a different Molly.

0:13:56 > 0:13:59I you could see nerves in her face but it was quite endearing.

0:13:59 > 0:14:03- I feel something when Molly sings. - Yeah, she channels it into a good place.

0:14:03 > 0:14:05Draws you in, I think you're right.

0:14:05 > 0:14:09I tried my best to impress them so hopefully it worked.

0:14:09 > 0:14:11Next is Sasha.

0:14:11 > 0:14:16Her extreme nerves used to see her shake uncontrollably when performing.

0:14:16 > 0:14:19I'm Sasha and I'm singing Adele - Make You Feel My Love.

0:14:19 > 0:14:22When Sasha last sang this song to Gareth she was

0:14:22 > 0:14:26so scared she could hardly get past the first line.

0:14:26 > 0:14:29# When the rain is blowing in your face... #

0:14:29 > 0:14:32- WHISPERS:- I can't do it.

0:14:32 > 0:14:33Now is her last chance to show him

0:14:33 > 0:14:36her confidence is as strong as her voice.

0:14:36 > 0:14:39# I can hold you for a million years

0:14:39 > 0:14:44# To make you feel my love

0:14:44 > 0:14:47# I know you... #

0:14:47 > 0:14:48Carry on.

0:14:48 > 0:14:50'I was a bit shaky and I could hear it in my voice

0:14:50 > 0:14:53'and if I can hear it then they can hear it.'

0:14:53 > 0:14:55She did make a few mistakes.

0:14:55 > 0:14:59She laughed it off and did keep going which is a great thing to do.

0:14:59 > 0:15:00But I feel there's a lot of potential.

0:15:00 > 0:15:03The question is will she realise it before Children In Need.

0:15:03 > 0:15:05Is she going to be ready?

0:15:05 > 0:15:09I did as well as I could and if that's not enough then it's not enough.

0:15:09 > 0:15:12I'm just thinking what if I go wrong and make some mistakes

0:15:12 > 0:15:16but I'm just going to give it my best shot and see what happens.

0:15:16 > 0:15:19Joan's lack of belief in herself used to run

0:15:19 > 0:15:22so deep she was petrified to sing in front of anyone.

0:15:22 > 0:15:28I really want to song, and make people happy and stuff, but I don't know why I can't do it.

0:15:28 > 0:15:32Singing her first audition song, Amazing Grace,

0:15:32 > 0:15:35can she prove her new-found strength is here to stay?

0:15:36 > 0:15:43# That saved a wretch like me... #

0:15:43 > 0:15:45Scary!

0:15:45 > 0:15:48There's the nervous Joan and then there's the strong confident Joan.

0:15:48 > 0:15:52What I saw there was the strong confident Joan. I'm really happy about that.

0:15:52 > 0:15:57I don't know, I feel like I've done a bad job.

0:15:57 > 0:16:01Next is one of the most nervous of the group.

0:16:01 > 0:16:03Until last week, Tia had found singing so petrifying,

0:16:03 > 0:16:06just the thought of it made her cry.

0:16:06 > 0:16:08I am feeling the pressure so much.

0:16:08 > 0:16:11Tia has only just found her voice...

0:16:11 > 0:16:13can she continues to impress?

0:16:13 > 0:16:16# And you can tell everybody

0:16:16 > 0:16:20# That this is your song

0:16:20 > 0:16:23# It may be quite simple

0:16:23 > 0:16:26# But now that it's done... #

0:16:26 > 0:16:29Really well done, off you go.

0:16:29 > 0:16:33WHISPERS: I'm so proud of her. That's a amazing.

0:16:33 > 0:16:35That was so scary.

0:16:35 > 0:16:40When I first met her, she was in floods of tears. She cried her way through the whole thing.

0:16:40 > 0:16:43It's like a different girl, I'm really, really proud of her.

0:16:43 > 0:16:49He managed to hold his own in front of 3,000 strangers at a folk festival,

0:16:49 > 0:16:54but delivering in front of a panel of professionals is an entirely different challenge.

0:16:54 > 0:16:57Especially for perfectionist James.

0:16:57 > 0:17:00Getting this audition right means everything to me.

0:17:00 > 0:17:02It may be one verse at Children In Need

0:17:02 > 0:17:06but that one verse is like the world, I really want to get it.

0:17:06 > 0:17:09He's feeling the pressure. Can he keep his cool?

0:17:09 > 0:17:13# And she don't want to go outside

0:17:13 > 0:17:18# It's too cold outside

0:17:18 > 0:17:21# For angels to fly

0:17:21 > 0:17:25# For angels to fly. #

0:17:25 > 0:17:29I tried my best to hit the high notes and I think I hit them OK.

0:17:29 > 0:17:34He probably had the hardest song. Lots of places to go wrong and I thought he did it with style.

0:17:34 > 0:17:37Now Gareth needs to take the list of five names down to just two.

0:17:37 > 0:17:39She's got the right voice.

0:17:39 > 0:17:44I feel really sick inside and butterflies and really scared.

0:17:44 > 0:17:48I think they were the most confident and maybe did slightly stronger vocals...

0:17:48 > 0:17:52I could feel better. I think everyone could feel better at the moment.

0:17:52 > 0:17:55I want the solo more than anything right now.

0:17:55 > 0:17:59I really, really want it badly. I want it badly!

0:17:59 > 0:18:02Ultimately this has to be about quality, this one.

0:18:02 > 0:18:06- And for me that means it's those two. - I'd agree, yeah.

0:18:06 > 0:18:08Thank you so much, that's really made it a lot easier.

0:18:08 > 0:18:13- Pleasure.- It's a tough decision. Very difficult. Thank you, guys.

0:18:13 > 0:18:14I'm going to tell them now.

0:18:14 > 0:18:16Good luck, we're off.

0:18:16 > 0:18:17Thank you very much.

0:18:17 > 0:18:19Job done. Now comes the hard part.

0:18:19 > 0:18:22Breaking the news to the group.

0:18:26 > 0:18:32Right, I've made my decision. I've whittled it down to two finalists.

0:18:38 > 0:18:41The first finalist is...

0:18:46 > 0:18:47James.

0:18:47 > 0:18:48WHOOPING

0:18:48 > 0:18:52I am so happy. The feeling is out of this world, you cannot describe it.

0:18:52 > 0:18:54The second and final finalist is...

0:19:02 > 0:19:04..Joan.

0:19:06 > 0:19:10Shaking like a leaf. Happy?

0:19:10 > 0:19:11Yes? Really well done.

0:19:11 > 0:19:16I really want this position to be the soloist. I'm just going to really prove myself.

0:19:16 > 0:19:19I feel disappointed that I didn't get it but I'm so excited

0:19:19 > 0:19:24cos James and Joan got it and I think they're going to rock the stage.

0:19:24 > 0:19:28I was really disappointed but I have to support James

0:19:28 > 0:19:31and Joan cos it is a solo.

0:19:31 > 0:19:35Later on you are going to be leading the group in a performance

0:19:35 > 0:19:37for a very special audience.

0:19:37 > 0:19:42At the end of that I will decide which one of you is going to be The Big Performance soloist.

0:19:42 > 0:19:46I was literally shaking, I'm still shaking right now - look at it.

0:19:47 > 0:19:50I've just got to focus on he audience and think,

0:19:50 > 0:19:52"They're the ones I've got to impress."

0:19:52 > 0:19:53I've got to put on a show.

0:19:53 > 0:19:56What they don't know yet is that the audience will be

0:19:56 > 0:20:00a packed West End theatre full of their closest friends and family.

0:20:04 > 0:20:07From ten hopeful soloists it's now down to two.

0:20:07 > 0:20:12And at the next stop, James and Joan will be singing for the solo spot.

0:20:12 > 0:20:15It's a big responsibility for me, it's a big responsibility for them.

0:20:15 > 0:20:18For that soloist...

0:20:18 > 0:20:21they're carrying the weight of all our hopes.

0:20:21 > 0:20:24This isn't about being nice to someone and giving them a chance.

0:20:24 > 0:20:28This is about choosing the right person for a very professional performance.

0:20:28 > 0:20:31Joan and James are taking centre stage but the whole group must

0:20:31 > 0:20:34pull off their most difficult performance yet.

0:20:34 > 0:20:36Time for one last rehearsal.

0:20:36 > 0:20:39Last time when they sang live on local news,

0:20:39 > 0:20:41nerves affected them physically.

0:20:41 > 0:20:46- Fidget, fidget, fidget the whole time. Are you listening? - Yeah.- Can you look at me?

0:20:46 > 0:20:50What I'm seeing is that you're looking at all this stuff. None of this stuff matters.

0:20:50 > 0:20:52OK. I'm recording.

0:20:52 > 0:20:56To ensure this doesn't happen again. Gareth wants to show them their performance

0:20:56 > 0:20:59through the audience's eyes.

0:21:00 > 0:21:03OK, everyone come and sit down and let's just watch it back.

0:21:03 > 0:21:07So just watch and see if you're IN the performance the whole time.

0:21:07 > 0:21:08I can't watch.

0:21:08 > 0:21:13# Keep holding on

0:21:13 > 0:21:17# Cos you know we'll make it through We'll make it through

0:21:17 > 0:21:20- # You're far away I wish you were here... # - Oh, nice pick.

0:21:20 > 0:21:23I was scratching it!

0:21:23 > 0:21:25Eyes, eyes, eyes...dancing

0:21:25 > 0:21:28THEY LAUGH

0:21:30 > 0:21:32GARETH SINGS ALONG: Holding...holding

0:21:35 > 0:21:39Right, there you go. What did you think?

0:21:39 > 0:21:43- Rubbish and needs work. - It's not 100%, is it? It's just all looks a bit random.

0:21:43 > 0:21:45We just need to fix on one thing, don't we?

0:21:45 > 0:21:49Seeing myself on tape was absolutely horrible.

0:21:49 > 0:21:51Everyone else was smiling and dancing along.

0:21:51 > 0:21:54I was forgetting moves and not singing properly.

0:21:54 > 0:21:56It just really made me feel bad.

0:21:56 > 0:21:57It looked so messy.

0:21:57 > 0:21:59When Imogen was smiling you could see

0:21:59 > 0:22:04- we all need to be like that cos it looks so much better already. - I think we know what we need to do.

0:22:04 > 0:22:07You know how to do it better. You did it better this morning.

0:22:07 > 0:22:10I think seeing themselves on video has really helped cos they needed to know

0:22:10 > 0:22:14that it just simply isn't good enough to stand there fidgeting.

0:22:14 > 0:22:17I think now they know what they need to fix and they've just got to put it right.

0:22:17 > 0:22:22Reality check over, will it help them impress their most familiar audience yet?

0:22:22 > 0:22:28You are going to be performing for an audience of your closest friends and family.

0:22:28 > 0:22:31THEY GROAN

0:22:31 > 0:22:33I'm really dreading this performance cos I know the people

0:22:33 > 0:22:35and I'll see them again and again.

0:22:35 > 0:22:37Family is pretty daunting to me.

0:22:37 > 0:22:40I feel like I'm going to fall over right now from all the pressure.

0:22:40 > 0:22:45I'll start crying and stop it all. I really don't want that to happen.

0:22:45 > 0:22:48Knowing that they're going to perform for a familiar audience,

0:22:48 > 0:22:51I think that's making it very, very pressured and emotional.

0:22:51 > 0:22:54And when you get emotional it's very hard to sing.

0:22:57 > 0:23:02Their family and friends are taking their seats and are full of anticipation.

0:23:02 > 0:23:03The pressure's on.

0:23:03 > 0:23:07I can even see the lights and I can feel the nerves.

0:23:10 > 0:23:14I'm feeling very great about Joan, to see her performing today.

0:23:17 > 0:23:19This is a really, really important audience.

0:23:19 > 0:23:22Don't let it intimidate you.

0:23:22 > 0:23:25Turn on the performance I know you are capable of.

0:23:25 > 0:23:27I want to see magic.

0:23:30 > 0:23:33Outside I just don't feel like I'm showing it

0:23:33 > 0:23:35but inside I feel like I'm about to blow up.

0:23:38 > 0:23:42I am really nervous and I'm shaking but I'm trying to keep

0:23:42 > 0:23:45the nerves in so that it turns out to be a good performance.

0:23:45 > 0:23:49All the way through I've been trying to get the best performances

0:23:49 > 0:23:52out of them when the audience are in, when it counts

0:23:52 > 0:23:56and I really hope that's what I get from those two soloists.

0:24:01 > 0:24:05It's their final performance before Children In Need.

0:24:05 > 0:24:08Any mistakes at this stage could jeopardise months of hard work.

0:24:13 > 0:24:15# You're not alone

0:24:15 > 0:24:18# Together we stand

0:24:18 > 0:24:19# I'll be by your side

0:24:19 > 0:24:22# You know I'll take your hand

0:24:22 > 0:24:23# When it gets cold

0:24:23 > 0:24:25# And it feels like the end

0:24:25 > 0:24:27# There's no place to go

0:24:27 > 0:24:30# You know I won't give in

0:24:31 > 0:24:34# No I won't give in

0:24:37 > 0:24:42# Keep holding on

0:24:42 > 0:24:45# Cos you know we'll make it through Make it through

0:24:45 > 0:24:49# Just stay strong

0:24:49 > 0:24:51# Cos you know I'm here for you

0:24:51 > 0:24:53# I'm here for you

0:24:53 > 0:24:55# There's nothing you can say

0:24:55 > 0:24:57# There's nothing you can do

0:24:57 > 0:25:00# There's no other way when it comes to the truth

0:25:00 > 0:25:06# So keep holding on

0:25:06 > 0:25:10# Keep holding on

0:25:10 > 0:25:15# Keep holding on. #

0:25:30 > 0:25:32BOTH: We did it. We did it!

0:25:32 > 0:25:34'I'm very proud of myself right now.'

0:25:34 > 0:25:35I can't believe I just did that!

0:25:35 > 0:25:37I'm just really happy.

0:25:37 > 0:25:40That energy, that meaning in the singing.

0:25:40 > 0:25:44I know you can do it now so I'm looking for even more when we get there

0:25:44 > 0:25:48but be VERY pleased with yourselves. That was a great performance.

0:25:50 > 0:25:55Spirits are high but Gavin still has to decide who will sing the solo.

0:25:55 > 0:25:58If Gareth read out my name and I was the soloist,

0:25:58 > 0:26:01I think I'd probably cry.

0:26:01 > 0:26:04'This has been one of the biggest things that's happened to me.'

0:26:04 > 0:26:07If Gareth read out my name, it would mean the world to me.

0:26:07 > 0:26:12I'm sure they're going to be absolutely in pieces when it comes to the night.

0:26:12 > 0:26:15I need to know that it's someone who can handle that.

0:26:15 > 0:26:18This is 11 million people we're talking about.

0:26:18 > 0:26:23It's got to be musically right, look confident, sound great and I think I know who that is.

0:26:23 > 0:26:28Who can Gareth rely on to lead the group in the final Big Performance?

0:26:30 > 0:26:32Will it be James?

0:26:33 > 0:26:34Or Joan?

0:26:37 > 0:26:41The person singing solo live on Children In Need is...

0:26:51 > 0:26:52James.

0:26:57 > 0:26:59I felt happy, amazed, surprised.

0:26:59 > 0:27:00'It was so close.'

0:27:02 > 0:27:05I was that close so... I felt I gave it my 100%.

0:27:05 > 0:27:08I just think he's going to rock the whole thing

0:27:08 > 0:27:11and we are going to support him, all of us.

0:27:11 > 0:27:12There is no denying it,

0:27:12 > 0:27:16this is like a dream come true. It is THE Big Performance.

0:27:18 > 0:27:21I think you could see in that performance today

0:27:21 > 0:27:23all the bits of advice coming together.

0:27:23 > 0:27:26They no longer look afraid of the stage.

0:27:26 > 0:27:28They now have to consolidate all of that

0:27:28 > 0:27:31and put it into the best performance of their lives.

0:27:45 > 0:27:49The true enormity of what we're about to do hasn't yet hit them.

0:27:49 > 0:27:53I'm worried for when it does because this is Big with capital B.
