0:00:30 > 0:00:34- This...- Den...- Is...- Done!

0:00:37 > 0:00:39Hello!

0:00:39 > 0:00:40Yes, you, Lola.

0:00:47 > 0:00:48Let's do it.

0:00:53 > 0:00:55That is epic.

0:00:55 > 0:00:57- Really happy.- It's amazing.

0:01:03 > 0:01:06Hello and welcome to The Dengineers. Today, we're in south London

0:01:06 > 0:01:09to surprise a nine-year-old boy called Rufus

0:01:09 > 0:01:12with the news that he's going to build his very own adventure den.

0:01:12 > 0:01:15Very shortly, he's going to be arriving to his karate lesson.

0:01:17 > 0:01:18Taught him everything he knows.

0:01:18 > 0:01:20And we're going to be hidden outside.

0:01:20 > 0:01:23He has no idea that this is going to happen.

0:01:23 > 0:01:24- Neither do you.- Aargh!

0:01:26 > 0:01:28Yes, brother.

0:01:32 > 0:01:37Today's Dengineer is Rufus from Wimbledon in south London.

0:01:37 > 0:01:40I really want a den because I love having adventures.

0:01:41 > 0:01:45Rufus is into football, hanging out with his sister Dixie and climbing.

0:01:48 > 0:01:52He's like any other nine-year-old boy, except for one thing.

0:01:53 > 0:01:54Rufus has leukaemia.

0:01:54 > 0:01:57It's a form of cancer that means he spends a lot of time

0:01:57 > 0:01:59at the hospital with his mum.

0:01:59 > 0:02:03I have acute lymphoblastic leukaemia,

0:02:03 > 0:02:07which is cancer of the blood, and I was six when I got it.

0:02:08 > 0:02:11I've had steroids and chemotherapy,

0:02:11 > 0:02:14which both make me feel really poorly,

0:02:14 > 0:02:16and I've had lots of different types of operations.

0:02:18 > 0:02:21Rufus has coped really well throughout his condition.

0:02:21 > 0:02:24It's really not been easy for him at all.

0:02:24 > 0:02:26Lovely, that looks good.

0:02:26 > 0:02:30He's been receiving treatment for three years and being so poorly

0:02:30 > 0:02:33has meant that he's often had to miss out on things.

0:02:33 > 0:02:36His immune system can't really cope with any kind of infection at all,

0:02:36 > 0:02:38so we wouldn't take him to a football match and,

0:02:38 > 0:02:42certainly, birthday parties, they're out as well.

0:02:43 > 0:02:45The good news is that in a few months' time,

0:02:45 > 0:02:48his treatment will come to an end and life can start

0:02:48 > 0:02:49to get back to normal.

0:02:49 > 0:02:53This den will be a place for him to play with his friends and forget

0:02:53 > 0:02:56all about the treatment that he's had and forget about

0:02:56 > 0:02:59all the hospital admissions and visits.

0:03:01 > 0:03:04He will be known as the boy in his school that has a den

0:03:04 > 0:03:06that all of his friends can play in,

0:03:06 > 0:03:09as opposed to the boy in school that has to come to hospital a lot.

0:03:12 > 0:03:16I can't wait to have my very own den where I can do whatever I want.

0:03:16 > 0:03:17No grown-ups allowed.

0:03:19 > 0:03:22Rufus has no idea that we're here to surprise him

0:03:22 > 0:03:23at his school karate lesson.

0:03:23 > 0:03:27Right now, him and his classmates are getting into their karate gear,

0:03:27 > 0:03:30so the Dengineers team have sprung into action

0:03:30 > 0:03:32to rig our hidden cameras.

0:03:32 > 0:03:35We're pretending to be a local news crew doing a story

0:03:35 > 0:03:37on karate in schools.

0:03:38 > 0:03:42The boys enter the hall, which is our signal to get into position.

0:03:45 > 0:03:47Quick, quick. Stay low, stay low.

0:03:47 > 0:03:52Rufus is completely unaware that we're here and about to surprise him

0:03:52 > 0:03:55with the news that he's going to get the den of his dreams.

0:03:58 > 0:04:00Hello. My name is Lauren.

0:04:00 > 0:04:04This is Mark and we are from CBBC's The Dengineers.

0:04:04 > 0:04:07We're here to tell you that you're going to be building

0:04:07 > 0:04:09your very own dream den.

0:04:11 > 0:04:13Why have you gone so quiet?

0:04:13 > 0:04:15Because I'm very excited.

0:04:15 > 0:04:16- Are you shocked?- Yes.

0:04:16 > 0:04:18Come in, Mum and Dad.

0:04:18 > 0:04:20Surprise. Gotcha.

0:04:23 > 0:04:26- ALL:- Aw!

0:04:26 > 0:04:28Well, Rufus, if you want to build this dream den,

0:04:28 > 0:04:31you need to start talking to us and come out of shock mode.

0:04:31 > 0:04:33- High five.- Yes, high five.

0:04:33 > 0:04:34See you later, guys.

0:04:34 > 0:04:36Well done.

0:04:38 > 0:04:40I never thought this was going to happen.

0:04:40 > 0:04:42I've got butterflies.

0:04:42 > 0:04:45Well, there's no time for butterflies,

0:04:45 > 0:04:47there's a den to design.

0:04:47 > 0:04:49We head straight to the Dengineers' mobile HQ,

0:04:49 > 0:04:52which has some cutting edge tech that can bring

0:04:52 > 0:04:54Rufus' adventure den to life.

0:04:55 > 0:04:59So, Rufus, welcome to the Dengineers' mobile HQ.

0:04:59 > 0:05:01In here is where we get all of your ideas together

0:05:01 > 0:05:03and get ready to start making your den.

0:05:03 > 0:05:05Rufus, remember, this is your den,

0:05:05 > 0:05:08so anything that's in your head, if you see it at the bottom,

0:05:08 > 0:05:09just drag it up. Are you ready?

0:05:09 > 0:05:11- Yes.- Come on, then, let's start.

0:05:11 > 0:05:15So, no grown-ups allowed because I want it to be private.

0:05:15 > 0:05:17Straight away, there's no pictures, no colours yet,

0:05:17 > 0:05:19it's just no grown-ups allowed.

0:05:19 > 0:05:21What about us two? Are we grown-ups?

0:05:21 > 0:05:22You don't really act like grown-ups.

0:05:23 > 0:05:26- Thank you very much. - We're not really.

0:05:26 > 0:05:31- Climbing.- OK, so what do you imagine it might look like from the outside?

0:05:31 > 0:05:32- High up.- OK.

0:05:32 > 0:05:35And is this the sort of look that you want?

0:05:35 > 0:05:37- So, like, kind of hidden?- Yes.- Nice.

0:05:37 > 0:05:38Well, dive in.

0:05:38 > 0:05:41- Equipment.- Climbing equipment, yes.

0:05:42 > 0:05:45Oh! Some kind of trap door, type of thing?

0:05:45 > 0:05:48Yes, some beanbags to sit on.

0:05:48 > 0:05:49Something like that.

0:05:49 > 0:05:51Rope ladders.

0:05:51 > 0:05:54- Yeah!- We could have a lookout tower.

0:05:54 > 0:05:56That would be incredible. Who are you looking out for?

0:05:56 > 0:05:59Um... My sister, so she can't get in.

0:06:02 > 0:06:05If you're high up, how are you going to get food and water?

0:06:07 > 0:06:09Oh. I could have one of these.

0:06:09 > 0:06:14- Yes!- You could just be like, "Mum, I need, like, a hamburger,"

0:06:14 > 0:06:16get it in the bucket. Are you happy?

0:06:16 > 0:06:19- Yes.- Are you sure you're leaving no stone unturned?

0:06:19 > 0:06:21- Yes.- Let's do it then.

0:06:21 > 0:06:25'Rufus's mood board is packed with ideas for his adventure den.

0:06:25 > 0:06:28'He wants to be able to do his favourite hobby - climbing.

0:06:28 > 0:06:30'Use a pull-up snack bucket for supplies,

0:06:30 > 0:06:33'and, to make sure there's no grown-ups allowed,

0:06:33 > 0:06:34'he wants a lookout tower.'

0:06:35 > 0:06:37But which of The Dengineers designers

0:06:37 > 0:06:39will be building Rufus' den?

0:06:41 > 0:06:43It's Sege.

0:06:43 > 0:06:46He's been in the building business for over 30 years.

0:06:46 > 0:06:49If anyone can make Rufus' adventure den dreams come true,

0:06:49 > 0:06:51it's definitely Sege the ledge.

0:06:54 > 0:06:57Who would you most like to build your den?

0:06:57 > 0:06:58- Sege.- Sege!

0:06:58 > 0:07:01Who's that through there?

0:07:01 > 0:07:02Oh, it's Sege.

0:07:02 > 0:07:03Yes!

0:07:03 > 0:07:05Let's go see Sege.

0:07:05 > 0:07:07Hi, Rufus, pleased to meet you.

0:07:07 > 0:07:08How are you?

0:07:08 > 0:07:11- This is all very exciting, isn't it? - Yes.- I've seen your mood board,

0:07:11 > 0:07:14so how about you start telling me all the sort of things

0:07:14 > 0:07:19- you'd like in your den?- So, I'd like to be able to climb up to it,

0:07:19 > 0:07:21so, like, a rope ladder to get up to it.

0:07:21 > 0:07:25So, perhaps on stilts, or something similar?

0:07:25 > 0:07:26Yes, and a watchtower.

0:07:26 > 0:07:30- A lookout tower.- Sege, how excited are you about this?

0:07:30 > 0:07:33- I'm really excited, this is the sort...- He can't stop smiling.

0:07:33 > 0:07:35I know! It's exactly the sort of thing I would have

0:07:35 > 0:07:37- wanted when I was your age. - Are you happy with what Sege

0:07:37 > 0:07:40has said? Have you told him all your ideas? Are you happy

0:07:40 > 0:07:42- with what he's had to say? - Yes.- So, you're ready to start.

0:07:42 > 0:07:44- Shall we do it?- Yes.

0:07:44 > 0:07:46Rufus has given Sege and the Dengineers

0:07:46 > 0:07:49a very clear brief for his adventure den.

0:07:49 > 0:07:53Sege has designed the den to wrap around one of the trees.

0:07:53 > 0:07:56There's a lookout tower and plenty of places for Rufus to climb

0:07:56 > 0:07:59as the den will be raised off the ground on stilts.

0:07:59 > 0:08:03He'll also have a pull-up snack bucket and parent-proof steps.

0:08:04 > 0:08:09From now on, guys, it is Dengineers only and you guys,

0:08:09 > 0:08:11you aren't Dengineers, I'm afraid.

0:08:11 > 0:08:13So, you're going to have to sling your hook.

0:08:13 > 0:08:16- I'll take you off. - Wave goodbye, Rufus.

0:08:16 > 0:08:17- Bye!- See you later.

0:08:17 > 0:08:19- What do you think?- Good.

0:08:19 > 0:08:21Excellent stuff. Stick it on here.

0:08:23 > 0:08:25I'm feeling slightly anxious.

0:08:25 > 0:08:27I don't know about everyone else.

0:08:27 > 0:08:29Yeah, I am anxious, too.

0:08:29 > 0:08:32- I'm excited. - That's good, excited is good.

0:08:32 > 0:08:34Anxiously excited.

0:08:40 > 0:08:44It's day one, and the Dengineers have arrived to prepare the ground

0:08:44 > 0:08:46for Rufus' adventure den.

0:08:46 > 0:08:50Sege has left Rufus in charge, so he and Dengineer Dan go over the plans

0:08:50 > 0:08:52before work gets under way.

0:08:52 > 0:08:55That is what we're going to be digging.

0:08:55 > 0:08:56And then the ground workers

0:08:56 > 0:08:59have arrived and they've started to mark out

0:08:59 > 0:09:01where my den's going to be.

0:09:04 > 0:09:08- How are you getting on?- We're almost there, ready to dig.- Good.

0:09:14 > 0:09:17They've dug out three wheelbarrows already

0:09:17 > 0:09:20and they haven't even gone very far down.

0:09:20 > 0:09:22So Rufus gets involved to speed things up.

0:09:22 > 0:09:24That's it, up.

0:09:27 > 0:09:30Everyone's working hard to make a solid base for the den.

0:09:32 > 0:09:35Holes are dug for posts that will raise it off the ground.

0:09:41 > 0:09:45Now the area of the den has been dug out and filled with hard-core,

0:09:45 > 0:09:47it's time to bring out the whacker.

0:09:57 > 0:09:58It's really cool,

0:09:58 > 0:10:01but it makes you feel really tingly in your arms.

0:10:09 > 0:10:13Concrete slabs are laid that will help take the weight of Rufus' den.

0:10:15 > 0:10:17With the base of the den nearly done,

0:10:17 > 0:10:20all that's left is for Rufus to sign off the work.

0:10:20 > 0:10:23I think me and Dan have made a very good team

0:10:23 > 0:10:26and the other guys have done a very good job as well.

0:10:28 > 0:10:30High five.

0:10:30 > 0:10:31The ground works are complete,

0:10:31 > 0:10:33so Rufus can look forward to Sege

0:10:33 > 0:10:35and the team starting on the main build tomorrow.

0:10:35 > 0:10:38Fingers crossed the concrete dries in time.

0:10:43 > 0:10:48It's day two and Sege has arrived to inspect the ground works.

0:10:50 > 0:10:54It looks like the ground works have done a very good job and a neat job

0:10:54 > 0:10:57most of all. First inspection, it looks pretty good.

0:10:57 > 0:11:02Which means it's go, go, go for the Dengineers!

0:11:02 > 0:11:05When I woke up this morning, I knew the Dengineers would come,

0:11:05 > 0:11:07but now they're here,

0:11:07 > 0:11:10there are so many people and lots of different things going on.

0:11:10 > 0:11:15I think now they're going to start building the main bit of the den

0:11:15 > 0:11:17and I can't wait to see what happens.

0:11:18 > 0:11:23Everyone is pitching in to get the build under way, but where's Mark?

0:11:25 > 0:11:27- What time do you call this? - How early is this?

0:11:27 > 0:11:30- What time did you lot start? - We've been here two hours.

0:11:30 > 0:11:32There is loads to do on this den, mate.

0:11:32 > 0:11:34You're going to hold us up. Come on!

0:11:34 > 0:11:37- I don't know. - 'No slacking, Mr Wright.'

0:11:37 > 0:11:38Let's get that out, Pete.

0:11:41 > 0:11:43One down, nine more to go.

0:11:43 > 0:11:45- What? Nine?!- Easy, easy!

0:11:45 > 0:11:47Come on, let's get cracking.

0:11:47 > 0:11:50It's the biggest thing I've ever carried.

0:11:50 > 0:11:51It's a house.

0:11:55 > 0:11:57The thing is, they've all been helping each other,

0:11:57 > 0:12:00I'm here on my own. Where are they?

0:12:04 > 0:12:08- What am I going to do?- I don't know, Mark, it's broken, mate.

0:12:08 > 0:12:11Sege, Sege!

0:12:11 > 0:12:13- What's Mark actually done? - He snapped it off there, mate.

0:12:13 > 0:12:15Oh, what a bloke.

0:12:15 > 0:12:17We'll get over that, we can fix anything.

0:12:17 > 0:12:18Whatever happens, lads,

0:12:18 > 0:12:22no more breakages otherwise we're going to be really behind.

0:12:22 > 0:12:25With the den in more bits than when it started,

0:12:25 > 0:12:29at least electrician Matt is doing a good job running power

0:12:29 > 0:12:31from the house to the site of the den.

0:12:31 > 0:12:34We're going to run in the armoured cable all the way

0:12:34 > 0:12:38down the garden to the den. It's called SWA - steel wired armoured.

0:12:38 > 0:12:40It's got a protective steel wire on the outside

0:12:40 > 0:12:43so you can't damage it and get electrocuted.

0:12:44 > 0:12:47There are some jobs that I think you're going to be

0:12:47 > 0:12:49good to help with, so what sort of jobs do you think

0:12:49 > 0:12:52- you would like to do? - Putting up the stilts.

0:12:52 > 0:12:54- You would like to help putting up the stilts?- Yeah.

0:12:54 > 0:12:58The Dengineers are hard at work getting the stilts of the den

0:12:58 > 0:13:00into position.

0:13:00 > 0:13:03Right, this is the thing you have been waiting for, isn't it,

0:13:03 > 0:13:06Rufus? Putting the stilts in, OK. Pete's going to guide you in.

0:13:06 > 0:13:08Once we've got it in position, we're going to brace it up.

0:13:08 > 0:13:10Let's go. Yep.

0:13:12 > 0:13:14If you would like to hold this brace.

0:13:14 > 0:13:16Down there.

0:13:16 > 0:13:17DRILLING

0:13:17 > 0:13:21'While Rufus gets hands-on bracing the stilts,

0:13:21 > 0:13:24'I want to find out more about how this technique works.'

0:13:24 > 0:13:27So, as you can see, this is a scale model of what we're building there.

0:13:27 > 0:13:31So what you're doing, in effect, is you're building triangles.

0:13:31 > 0:13:32Can you see those triangles here?

0:13:32 > 0:13:37Lots of little triangles that helps keep these posts stable.

0:13:37 > 0:13:39They're a type of foundation

0:13:39 > 0:13:41and they also stop these plates from bending.

0:13:41 > 0:13:44So what happens if you forgot to put one of these in?

0:13:44 > 0:13:46If I take a couple out..

0:13:47 > 0:13:49..you help as well, that's it.

0:13:49 > 0:13:52What starts to happen very quickly is that.

0:13:52 > 0:13:55- It starts moving and wobbling. - Everything starts to wobble.

0:13:55 > 0:13:57- A bit of wind...- A bit of wind, wobble and collapse.

0:13:59 > 0:14:01Yes, he had to do that.

0:14:02 > 0:14:06The weight of Rufus' den is pushing down on to the stilts.

0:14:06 > 0:14:09The weight could cause the stilts to move outwards

0:14:09 > 0:14:11and the den to topple over.

0:14:11 > 0:14:13But, by bracing the posts like he has,

0:14:13 > 0:14:17Sege has made sure they won't move and so the den is secure.

0:14:19 > 0:14:21'We're making really good progress with the den,

0:14:21 > 0:14:25'so I'm off for a nice cup of coffee and a chat with Rufus' mum and dad.

0:14:25 > 0:14:27'Keep up the good work, you lot!'

0:14:27 > 0:14:29So, the den is under way.

0:14:29 > 0:14:31How do you think Rufus feels about it?

0:14:31 > 0:14:33I mean, he's so excited, isn't he?

0:14:33 > 0:14:35He's beyond buzzing. It's a good job he's got heavy shoes on,

0:14:35 > 0:14:37keeping him down.

0:14:37 > 0:14:38What's it going to mean to Rufus?

0:14:38 > 0:14:41A huge amount, cos it's his thing.

0:14:41 > 0:14:43For the last three years, with all the treatment,

0:14:43 > 0:14:45all the other things he's gone through,

0:14:45 > 0:14:47he's relied on other people and this is his thing.

0:14:47 > 0:14:49It's his idea. He wanted to do it.

0:14:49 > 0:14:5118 months ago, there was no way

0:14:51 > 0:14:54that he could have thought about climbing.

0:14:54 > 0:14:59I think he's really started to feel the loss of the things he could do.

0:14:59 > 0:15:02Roger, when we surprised Rufus, I saw you get quite upset...

0:15:04 > 0:15:06Because it was special to him.

0:15:06 > 0:15:09It's very moving for us to see him so happy.

0:15:11 > 0:15:14Rufus really does deserve the den of his dreams.

0:15:15 > 0:15:17The Dengineers are working flat out

0:15:17 > 0:15:19to make that happen, and it's hungry work.

0:15:21 > 0:15:23Seeing as you're not doing anything, Mark,

0:15:23 > 0:15:25how about making some chips for the lads?

0:15:25 > 0:15:27- Have they not had lunch? - No, they're starving.

0:15:27 > 0:15:30Go on, Sege, you leave them there and we'll get it sorted.

0:15:30 > 0:15:32- Don't forget the sack. - All right, cool. Could I order

0:15:32 > 0:15:34ten portions of home-made chips, please?

0:15:36 > 0:15:37- Ten?- Yeah.

0:15:37 > 0:15:39Yes, thank you very much.

0:15:39 > 0:15:40Quick!

0:15:42 > 0:15:45Cheers, mate. Cheers. Thank you, see ya.

0:15:45 > 0:15:48- Here you go, lads.- Oh, chips, Mark.

0:15:48 > 0:15:51There you go, nice home-made chips.

0:15:51 > 0:15:52- Really?- See you in a bit, guys.

0:15:52 > 0:15:54Go and have a lie down.

0:15:54 > 0:15:56Refuelled and ready to go,

0:15:56 > 0:15:59the team put in one last push to get the main structure up

0:15:59 > 0:16:01- before the end of the day. - It's been brilliant.

0:16:01 > 0:16:04We've all chipped in. The lads have all worked really hard.

0:16:04 > 0:16:06We even got Mark helping us this time,

0:16:06 > 0:16:09so it's been really, really good.

0:16:09 > 0:16:10Come over here, Ruf.

0:16:10 > 0:16:14I tell you what, the outside is looking amazing, isn't it?

0:16:14 > 0:16:18Yeah. I think it will be the only thing I ever clean.

0:16:18 > 0:16:19Clean? Don't you clean your bedroom?

0:16:19 > 0:16:22- No.- But you are proud of this, so you will?- Yeah.

0:16:22 > 0:16:24Love it. Dens come first.

0:16:31 > 0:16:33It's a peaceful morning in Wimbledon.

0:16:35 > 0:16:37Until the Dengineers turn up,

0:16:37 > 0:16:39ready for day three of the build.

0:16:39 > 0:16:42And Rufus has got plans for Sege and the team.

0:16:42 > 0:16:45I want everyone to work really hard today so the den comes on well.

0:16:45 > 0:16:48This is the bucket for Rufus' supplies.

0:16:48 > 0:16:52So that he can pull his supplies indoors.

0:16:52 > 0:16:53Push it right up tight.

0:16:54 > 0:16:57Forget about three men to change a light bulb!

0:16:58 > 0:17:00Three men to tie a bucket handle.

0:17:00 > 0:17:02Ta-da!

0:17:02 > 0:17:04There's only one day left

0:17:04 > 0:17:07for the team to finish the den, and there's still loads to do,

0:17:07 > 0:17:10including one last job for Rufus.

0:17:15 > 0:17:18OK, Rufus, what I've got for you now is a really cool upcycle idea.

0:17:18 > 0:17:22- OK.- I've bought a very cheap hammock made of rope string.

0:17:22 > 0:17:25- OK.- And it's all tied together with lots and lots of knots.

0:17:25 > 0:17:27These knots, when you lie on them, more than likely,

0:17:27 > 0:17:29are going to be very uncomfortable,

0:17:29 > 0:17:32- which is one thing we don't want, do we?- Uh-huh.- So, remember those

0:17:32 > 0:17:35- potato sacks yesterday?- Yes.- So what we are going to do is create

0:17:35 > 0:17:37a type of mattress lining over the hammock.

0:17:37 > 0:17:40Sege and Rufus tie the potato sacks to the hammock,

0:17:40 > 0:17:43before bringing out some material to create a lining.

0:17:43 > 0:17:46You could pick the words that you'd like to print on it.

0:17:46 > 0:17:49They're going to stencil it using black paint.

0:17:49 > 0:17:50This is the good bit, the dirty bit.

0:17:50 > 0:17:53Stipple the brush like this, very hard.

0:17:53 > 0:17:55Don't worry about my fingers, just go for it.

0:17:59 > 0:18:02- OK. What do you think of that then, Rufus?- That looks really cool.

0:18:04 > 0:18:08It looks such good fun that the whole team want to get involved.

0:18:08 > 0:18:10- ALL:- Ahhh!

0:18:11 > 0:18:13Er, guys, shouldn't you be building a den?

0:18:15 > 0:18:18And it's not just the Dengineers getting covered in paint,

0:18:18 > 0:18:22Sege wants Rufus to create paint splatters on the material.

0:18:23 > 0:18:24I'm lovin this!

0:18:31 > 0:18:35So let's leave this to dry now and I'll attach it to the hammock later.

0:18:35 > 0:18:36Let's go.

0:18:37 > 0:18:39Now the hammock is finished,

0:18:39 > 0:18:42the den is off-limits to Rufus until the big reveal.

0:18:42 > 0:18:47So, to keep him occupied, I've got a seriously cool treat in store.

0:18:47 > 0:18:49Rufus is a man after my own heart.

0:18:49 > 0:18:52He loves adventures, so I've set up something pretty cool

0:18:52 > 0:18:55that I know he's going to love. And it all happens right in there.

0:18:58 > 0:19:00- Rufus, how are you doing?- Good.

0:19:00 > 0:19:02Now, I thought we should do something really fun,

0:19:02 > 0:19:04something I've always wanted to do and something I think

0:19:04 > 0:19:07you're going to love. We're going to have a go at indoor skydiving.

0:19:07 > 0:19:10- What do you think at that?- Really cool.- Are you excited?- Yeah.

0:19:10 > 0:19:12Shall we go and meet our instructor and get this show on the road?

0:19:12 > 0:19:14- Yes.- Yeah, come on.

0:19:14 > 0:19:16Meet Ged,

0:19:16 > 0:19:20our instructor and the man who's got all the moves.

0:19:22 > 0:19:26Ged shows us how to get into the perfect body position for skydiving.

0:19:26 > 0:19:28I call it the happy, smiling banana.

0:19:28 > 0:19:30There's my banana shape.

0:19:30 > 0:19:33And what hand signals to use to communicate.

0:19:33 > 0:19:36So, if you want to come out of the tunnel, put both of your thumbs down

0:19:36 > 0:19:38and you keep shaking your head.

0:19:38 > 0:19:41But you won't want to get out, I promise you.

0:19:41 > 0:19:44After a bit of practice, we're ready to go.

0:19:48 > 0:19:50You want to look up. Look up here, look.

0:19:50 > 0:19:51TURBINES HUM LOUDLY

0:19:53 > 0:19:55The noise is incredible.

0:19:55 > 0:20:00The wind tunnel can get up to speeds of 180 miles per hour.

0:20:00 > 0:20:02I can see why we need those hand signals now.

0:20:08 > 0:20:10It's a bit scary on your first go.

0:20:10 > 0:20:12But such an amazing feeling.

0:20:26 > 0:20:28I can tell Rufus is nervous.

0:20:29 > 0:20:32But he gives it a go straight away.

0:20:32 > 0:20:33Good man!

0:20:40 > 0:20:42It feels cool, but scary.

0:20:42 > 0:20:45And you can't really breathe at first.

0:20:46 > 0:20:50It's quite nice, actually, when you get used to it.

0:20:52 > 0:20:56Once we've got the hang of it, there's no stopping us.

0:20:56 > 0:20:58But something very funny happens to your face

0:20:58 > 0:21:01when you're flying at a high speed.

0:21:01 > 0:21:03Mark looks like a scared fish.

0:21:07 > 0:21:10A massive thank you to Ged and his team.

0:21:10 > 0:21:13It's been an amazing day and this is one adventure

0:21:13 > 0:21:14Rufus will never forget.

0:21:14 > 0:21:18This has made me really excited about my adventure den.

0:21:18 > 0:21:21While they've been flying high,

0:21:21 > 0:21:24the Dengineers have gone all-out to get Rufus' den

0:21:24 > 0:21:26finished before the big reveal tomorrow.

0:21:31 > 0:21:33In just a few hours,

0:21:33 > 0:21:36Rufus will get to see his den for the very first time.

0:21:36 > 0:21:39And the team have been up early, preparing for the big reveal.

0:21:54 > 0:21:58- Yeah, please do, yeah. - Here we go.- It's a bit steep.- OK.

0:21:58 > 0:22:00Push yourself up there, that's it.

0:22:00 > 0:22:04No, no, no, Mark, please, go back down, I'm going to show you a trick.

0:22:04 > 0:22:06Lauren, if you could undo those flaps for me?

0:22:06 > 0:22:08- What these? Yes.- Thank you.

0:22:08 > 0:22:11See those two pieces of cord, they are going to reveal...

0:22:11 > 0:22:13- Wow!- Sege is the man.

0:22:13 > 0:22:17There's stairs. There's stairs!

0:22:17 > 0:22:19Oh, this is incredible.

0:22:19 > 0:22:20Right, Sege, what needs doing?

0:22:20 > 0:22:22Start to dress it up now.

0:22:22 > 0:22:24# Dress it up, dress it up

0:22:24 > 0:22:26- ALL:- # You've got to dress it up

0:22:33 > 0:22:35Time is ticking, so it's all hands on deck

0:22:35 > 0:22:38to get Rufus' den ready as his friends and family arrive.

0:22:38 > 0:22:41I cannot wait to see Rufus' den.

0:22:41 > 0:22:43He's been talking about it for the last couple of weeks,

0:22:43 > 0:22:44and I'm so excited.

0:22:46 > 0:22:48I really hope Rufus will let me in the den.

0:22:48 > 0:22:50Fingers crossed.

0:22:50 > 0:22:51I do feel a bit emotional.

0:22:51 > 0:22:54It's really, really, really special for them.

0:23:05 > 0:23:08It's just going to be a great day and I can't wait for him to see it.

0:23:18 > 0:23:21Having leukaemia has meant that Rufus has missed out

0:23:21 > 0:23:23on lots of things over the past three years.

0:23:23 > 0:23:26Now that his treatment is coming to an end,

0:23:26 > 0:23:28Sege and the Dengineers have transformed

0:23:28 > 0:23:29the bottom of his garden,

0:23:29 > 0:23:32giving Rufus a den built for adventures.

0:27:40 > 0:27:43because he's missed out on a lot of stuff.

0:27:43 > 0:27:46Like just doing the lad thing, building the den.

0:27:46 > 0:27:48And we've managed to bring that together for him,

0:27:48 > 0:27:50as if he'd built it himself.
