0:00:37 > 0:00:39Hello! SCREAMING

0:00:39 > 0:00:41Yes, you, Lola.

0:00:47 > 0:00:49Let's do it.

0:00:53 > 0:00:56- That is epic.- I'm really happy.

0:00:56 > 0:00:57It's amazing!

0:01:04 > 0:01:05Welcome to The Dengineers.

0:01:05 > 0:01:08Currently, we're hiding out in the back of a Dengineer's car

0:01:08 > 0:01:10in a school in North Wales.

0:01:10 > 0:01:12That's right, we're about to surprise

0:01:12 > 0:01:13an 11-year-old girl called Whitney

0:01:13 > 0:01:16with the news that she's going to get her dream den.

0:01:16 > 0:01:18Whitney is really big into recycling and the environment,

0:01:18 > 0:01:22so we're going to make her own eco-den.

0:01:22 > 0:01:25- Are you ready for it?- Yeah, come on. - Shall we go for it? Come on.

0:01:28 > 0:01:30Today's Dengineer is 11-year-old Whitney

0:01:30 > 0:01:33from Flintshire in North Wales.

0:01:33 > 0:01:34I'd like an eco-den

0:01:34 > 0:01:36to show people how important it is to

0:01:36 > 0:01:39reduce, re-use and recycle.

0:01:40 > 0:01:43Whitney is all about the environment,

0:01:43 > 0:01:46and she loves to recycle, well, anything she can.

0:01:46 > 0:01:48Whitney's completely in charge

0:01:48 > 0:01:49of recycling at home.

0:01:49 > 0:01:50She absolutely loves it.

0:01:50 > 0:01:54She understands the importance of recycling,

0:01:54 > 0:01:57and the affect our rubbish has on the planet.

0:02:01 > 0:02:04She even sorts out our teenage son and makes sure that he puts his

0:02:04 > 0:02:08pizza cartons in the right cardboard container.

0:02:11 > 0:02:14Whitney would be so thrilled to have a fantastic eco-den

0:02:14 > 0:02:18and it would be brilliant for her to share it with her friends

0:02:18 > 0:02:23at school, neighbours, family, and continue to be learning herself

0:02:23 > 0:02:25about the environment.

0:02:26 > 0:02:29She'd be so thrilled. We'd be really chuffed, wouldn't we?

0:02:29 > 0:02:32It would be absolutely amazing.

0:02:34 > 0:02:38I think my eco-den could be amazing. Please come and help me, Dengineers.

0:02:38 > 0:02:41Don't worry, Whitney, you're going to get your dream den

0:02:41 > 0:02:44to help you save the planet - you just don't know it yet.

0:02:49 > 0:02:52Whitney is an eco-rep for her school,

0:02:52 > 0:02:55and she's about to do a presentation about recycling.

0:02:55 > 0:02:58Which makes this the perfect place for us to hit Whitney with the

0:02:58 > 0:03:00surprise of her life.

0:03:00 > 0:03:03She knows that she's being filmed today,

0:03:03 > 0:03:06but she doesn't know that it's The Dengineers who're filming her,

0:03:06 > 0:03:09and she doesn't know that me and Mark are going to be hiding

0:03:09 > 0:03:12somewhere... quite unusual.

0:03:12 > 0:03:14Meet our very own stunt bin,

0:03:14 > 0:03:17used for hidden camera prank shows for people to hide in.

0:03:20 > 0:03:23This is the ideal bit of kit to take this surprise

0:03:23 > 0:03:26to the next level.

0:03:26 > 0:03:30But remember, guys, this is a special bin built for TV,

0:03:30 > 0:03:32so don't go trying this at home.

0:03:32 > 0:03:35"Every lunch break, two children from any class

0:03:35 > 0:03:36"can ask their dinner staff

0:03:36 > 0:03:38"to litter pick around our school grounds.

0:03:38 > 0:03:42"Also, every class has got to plant a fruit tree

0:03:42 > 0:03:46"and when the fruit has grown, it'll be sold in the fruit tuck shop."

0:03:48 > 0:03:52Talk over, it's time for me and Lauren to get the surprise rolling

0:03:52 > 0:03:55with the help of Witney's headteacher.

0:03:55 > 0:04:01Because we do so much recycling, our recycling bins

0:04:01 > 0:04:02sometimes are overflowing.

0:04:02 > 0:04:06So I think this might be a good opportunity for us to have a new bin

0:04:06 > 0:04:08so that we can recycle even more.

0:04:09 > 0:04:12- BOTH:- Hello!

0:04:12 > 0:04:17- We're looking for Whitney. How are you doing?- Fine, thank you.

0:04:17 > 0:04:22My name is Lauren, this is Mark. We're from CBBC's The Dengineers,

0:04:22 > 0:04:25and we're here to tell you that you're going to get

0:04:25 > 0:04:29- your dream den made. - How do you feel right now?

0:04:29 > 0:04:32- Dead excited!- Oh, brilliant!

0:04:32 > 0:04:34APPLAUSE

0:04:35 > 0:04:40I feel, like, one of the luckiest people on earth.

0:04:40 > 0:04:43I was, like, so shocked as well.

0:04:43 > 0:04:46Oh, I never thought this, even in my dreams!

0:04:48 > 0:04:53Oh, I'm so excited for The Dengineers building my den.

0:04:53 > 0:04:55I just can't wait.

0:04:55 > 0:04:58Our first port of call is The Dengineers mobile HQ,

0:04:58 > 0:05:03which has some mega-cool technology to get Whitney's eco-den on track.

0:05:03 > 0:05:06Whitney, this is where the magic happens, really, isn't it?

0:05:06 > 0:05:08- It is. - It's where you design your den.

0:05:08 > 0:05:11So this is the opportunity to get stuck in,

0:05:11 > 0:05:14pick out all the pictures you like, and start designing your den.

0:05:14 > 0:05:16- Are you up for it?- Yeah. - Let's have a little look, shall we?

0:05:16 > 0:05:18Dive in. What do you like the look of?

0:05:18 > 0:05:20Scroll along the bottom. What do you want to start with?

0:05:20 > 0:05:22Can we go for that quote because it's my favourite?

0:05:22 > 0:05:24Reduce, re-use, recycle.

0:05:24 > 0:05:27- Why do you like that so much? - Because, one, you can reduce,

0:05:27 > 0:05:30two, you can re-use, and three, you can recycle.

0:05:30 > 0:05:33- You're clearly very passionate about this, aren't you?- Yeah.

0:05:33 > 0:05:36- I love that.- Yeah, what would your den be made out of?

0:05:36 > 0:05:37How would it look from the outside?

0:05:37 > 0:05:40Like, recycled things and on one of the sides you could have a glass,

0:05:40 > 0:05:43- so you could look out of... - Oh, that's cool.

0:05:43 > 0:05:45I quite like the little bumblebee there.

0:05:45 > 0:05:48And why do you like the bumblebee?

0:05:48 > 0:05:51They pollinate all the flowers, but they're just nice.

0:05:51 > 0:05:53What about that?

0:05:53 > 0:05:56It actually looks a little bit like you. It's got your hair.

0:05:56 > 0:05:59- Why do like that?- I quite like it because me and my dad go for walks

0:05:59 > 0:06:03in the forest quite a lot, so that's like me and my dad.

0:06:03 > 0:06:06Aww! That's sweet. I like that.

0:06:06 > 0:06:09Oh, that's cool, what's that about? What's she up to?

0:06:09 > 0:06:14She's used recycled materials to make, like, a bug house, I think.

0:06:14 > 0:06:17- Oh, for little bugs to live in? - Yeah, like bees and butterflies.

0:06:17 > 0:06:19- That's got to go on, hasn't it? - Oh, that's a good one.

0:06:19 > 0:06:22That's plain and simply what we need to be recycling.

0:06:22 > 0:06:23Oh, do you know what?

0:06:23 > 0:06:26I think that looks really, really exciting, don't you?

0:06:26 > 0:06:29It looks unbelievable. Whitney, we think this looks incredible.

0:06:29 > 0:06:31- Are you happy with it?- Yeah. - Good.- Excellent.

0:06:31 > 0:06:35- Well, let's get the show on the road, shall we?- Yeah.- Let's go.

0:06:35 > 0:06:40Whitney's mood board is bursting with ideas for her eco-den.

0:06:40 > 0:06:42She wants a space to hang out with her friends and show them just how

0:06:42 > 0:06:45brilliant being eco-friendly can be.

0:06:45 > 0:06:48Whitney wants her den to be made from recycled materials,

0:06:48 > 0:06:51and she's hoping to give a home to the wildlife in her garden

0:06:51 > 0:06:54by including plants in the design.

0:06:54 > 0:06:57But who will bring her eco-dreams to live?

0:06:59 > 0:07:01It's daring duo Tony and Satwinder.

0:07:01 > 0:07:04These amazing architects have over 40 years' experience designing

0:07:04 > 0:07:07superstructures using a huge range of material.

0:07:07 > 0:07:12They're the perfect pair to get Whitney's den off the ground.

0:07:12 > 0:07:14Guys, you've seen everything on the mood board.

0:07:14 > 0:07:16What have you got planned?

0:07:16 > 0:07:18I think you've got such a fantastic garden here

0:07:18 > 0:07:20and I think we've got to make the best of that.

0:07:20 > 0:07:23You've got a great view of the field beyond, framed by the trees,

0:07:23 > 0:07:26you've got the decking with lots of different levels and stuff.

0:07:26 > 0:07:28So we're thinking of, like, the best place to put the den.

0:07:28 > 0:07:30I think that's always our starting point.

0:07:30 > 0:07:32So we were thinking over here, initially.

0:07:32 > 0:07:35So when you come down the stairs, you still get the view,

0:07:35 > 0:07:37but it allows you to kind of use this deck

0:07:37 > 0:07:39and use the garden as well.

0:07:39 > 0:07:41- What do you think about that? - OK. Yeah.

0:07:41 > 0:07:44It's great that we're working with recycled materials,

0:07:44 > 0:07:45because that's the kind of stuff

0:07:45 > 0:07:47- that often gets thrown away, and it's just rubbish...- Yeah.

0:07:47 > 0:07:49..but we're going to take that material

0:07:49 > 0:07:51and try and make it really special

0:07:51 > 0:07:53because then you'll be able to tell your friends how amazing...

0:07:53 > 0:07:55- Yeah.- ..using recycled materials is

0:07:55 > 0:07:58and we thought maybe we could use old milk containers.

0:07:58 > 0:08:01- Yeah.- Or maybe we could use milk crates.

0:08:01 > 0:08:04- Yeah.- And then we had a few ideas about using cardboard tubes to

0:08:04 > 0:08:07- actually help build it as well. - Yeah.

0:08:07 > 0:08:10We were having a think about looking at ways of introducing planting

0:08:10 > 0:08:12into the walls and stuff as well.

0:08:12 > 0:08:15So not just grass, but you could grow all sort of things so it feels

0:08:15 > 0:08:18- like part of the garden.- Yeah, like ivy could be going up some of the,

0:08:18 > 0:08:20- like, walls and that?- Yeah.

0:08:20 > 0:08:24Just out of curiosity as well, is that something you've ever done

0:08:24 > 0:08:27before, using recycled materials and is it difficult?

0:08:27 > 0:08:29Is it harder than using normal stuff?

0:08:29 > 0:08:31Yeah, we've both done stuff like that before. And it is...

0:08:31 > 0:08:33You just have to be clever and inventive,

0:08:33 > 0:08:35and see materials in a different way.

0:08:35 > 0:08:38So you don't see a milk crate, you see a building block

0:08:38 > 0:08:41or you don't see a pallet, you see a potential for a floor

0:08:41 > 0:08:43or a roof or a chair or something.

0:08:43 > 0:08:45And as soon as you get used to the idea,

0:08:45 > 0:08:47there's just loads of potential.

0:08:47 > 0:08:49And it's a good way of saving money,

0:08:49 > 0:08:51and it also helps to save the planet as well,

0:08:51 > 0:08:52which is really important.

0:08:52 > 0:08:56- Excellent!- Brilliant.- Shall we get a move on, then?- Yeah, let's go.

0:08:56 > 0:08:58Tony and Satwinder's design uses old pallets.

0:08:58 > 0:09:00On two sides, there will be reused milk crates

0:09:00 > 0:09:03and on the other side, stable-style doors.

0:09:03 > 0:09:06The roof will be sloped downwards to collect the rain,

0:09:06 > 0:09:09and the den will get electricity from solar panels

0:09:09 > 0:09:11and a wind turbine.

0:09:11 > 0:09:13It's going to be a eco-extravaganza

0:09:13 > 0:09:16made almost entirely from recycled materials.

0:09:20 > 0:09:23Before The Dengineers can get stuck in making the den,

0:09:23 > 0:09:27the foundations need to be laid.

0:09:27 > 0:09:30Tony and Satwinder have come up with an eco-friendly way of making

0:09:30 > 0:09:32the foundations using car tyres.

0:09:32 > 0:09:36Car tyres take over 50 years to break down,

0:09:36 > 0:09:39so reusing them is a brilliant idea,

0:09:39 > 0:09:42and it means less concrete has to be used,

0:09:42 > 0:09:46which is better for the environment.

0:09:46 > 0:09:48This is a big job for the team.

0:09:48 > 0:09:53So they're going to need our Whitney to muck in.

0:09:53 > 0:09:56It's really exciting to get stuck in building the den,

0:09:56 > 0:09:58but it's also quite sweaty work.

0:10:02 > 0:10:05With the ground dug and the tyres fitted in place,

0:10:05 > 0:10:08The Dengineers team pour in the concrete

0:10:08 > 0:10:12to create a strong and sturdy base that will support Whitney's den.

0:10:16 > 0:10:20It's day one, and The Dengineers are arriving at Whitney's house

0:10:20 > 0:10:24and when we arrive, we really arrive in style.

0:10:27 > 0:10:32First job of the day is to make Whitney's garden Dengineers-only.

0:10:32 > 0:10:35So, Mum and Dad, take a look behind you. What can you see?

0:10:35 > 0:10:38- Nothing.- Nothing, can't see a thing. - Great, that's just how we like it.

0:10:38 > 0:10:40So we're going to hand over to Whitney.

0:10:40 > 0:10:43She's going to be in complete control. How are you feeling?

0:10:43 > 0:10:45- BOTH:- Nervous.- Are you really?

0:10:45 > 0:10:49- Did you not trust her?- Not really.

0:10:49 > 0:10:52So for now, it is Dengineers-only.

0:10:52 > 0:10:55So that means you two, clear off. Go on, off you go.

0:10:55 > 0:10:58Wave them goodbye, Whitney. See you later, guys?

0:10:58 > 0:11:00- Bye!- Bye!

0:11:01 > 0:11:03The Dengineers love a challenge,

0:11:03 > 0:11:07so we're starting with the heaviest bit first - the roof

0:11:07 > 0:11:09and it's a whopper.

0:11:09 > 0:11:11Even sound man Ben is needed to help,

0:11:11 > 0:11:15so I'm on the sound while the whole team try to move it into the garden.

0:11:15 > 0:11:18- You look nervous that you're about to give me this.- I am nervous.

0:11:18 > 0:11:21I won't break it. Oh, what do I do? What...?

0:11:21 > 0:11:24OK, on three. One, two, three, lift.

0:11:24 > 0:11:27That's it, guys. Yes!

0:11:27 > 0:11:32The roof weighs over 250 kg -

0:11:32 > 0:11:36that's almost the same weight as two sumo wrestlers!

0:11:36 > 0:11:37Watch it on the bend!

0:11:39 > 0:11:42A bit towards you, a bit towards you. There we go.

0:11:42 > 0:11:45That's it. Nice and slow.

0:11:45 > 0:11:48This is incredibly difficult.

0:11:48 > 0:11:51They are literally coming through the tiniest, tiniest gap.

0:11:51 > 0:11:54- That's it.- Straight. - Stop, stop, stop!

0:11:55 > 0:11:59Stage one completed, all that's left to do is carry the roof

0:11:59 > 0:12:03down the steep steps to the bottom of the garden.

0:12:03 > 0:12:05OK, let's go.

0:12:05 > 0:12:07Be careful. Go easy, guys.

0:12:09 > 0:12:12- Easy.- One, two, three, lift.

0:12:12 > 0:12:15The team make one last mammoth effort...

0:12:16 > 0:12:20Go on, guys. This is it!

0:12:21 > 0:12:23..and success!

0:12:28 > 0:12:31Now that the roof is at the bottom of the garden, the base can go down,

0:12:31 > 0:12:37which gives me time to catch up with Whitney's mum and dad.

0:12:37 > 0:12:40So, guys, there's loads going on outside.

0:12:40 > 0:12:45- How are you feeling?- BOTH:- Nervous. - Are you really? Genuinely?

0:12:45 > 0:12:48- And excited, really excited. - What's making you nervous?

0:12:48 > 0:12:51We're not sure exactly what Whitney's got planned

0:12:51 > 0:12:54with the designers, so we're a bit nervous.

0:12:54 > 0:12:56- It could be anything. - Yeah, it could be, knowing Whitney.

0:12:56 > 0:12:58So tell me more about Whitney's love of recycling.

0:12:58 > 0:13:04It started at quite a young age - just splitting out the basics,

0:13:04 > 0:13:07which was tins, plastic and paper and card

0:13:07 > 0:13:11and then it's really expanded from there,

0:13:11 > 0:13:13even entered the school now, where she's an eco-rep.

0:13:13 > 0:13:16- And what does that entail? - It entails her...

0:13:16 > 0:13:19- Collecting all the rubbish...- Yes. - ..doing the recycling.

0:13:19 > 0:13:22They've also been lucky enough to have chickens and ducks and things.

0:13:22 > 0:13:26- So she's been in charge of looking after...- They get school pets?!

0:13:26 > 0:13:29- Yes.- Absolutely! - I'm so jealous.

0:13:29 > 0:13:32She knows that her generation hold the key to the future.

0:13:32 > 0:13:37So if she spreads the message of reduce, re-use and recycle,

0:13:37 > 0:13:42she knows that, most people, if they get into recycling at an early age,

0:13:42 > 0:13:44will do it for the rest of their lives.

0:13:44 > 0:13:46If everyone just contributes a bit,

0:13:46 > 0:13:49it'll have a huge effect on the environment.

0:13:49 > 0:13:54And what do you think this eco-den is going to mean to her?

0:13:54 > 0:13:57- It will mean absolutely everything to her.- It will.

0:13:57 > 0:13:59It will be so special. So she can...

0:13:59 > 0:14:03She's already planned to ask the whole class to come round

0:14:03 > 0:14:06so she can show them the importance of recycling

0:14:06 > 0:14:11but this will take her interest to another dimension.

0:14:12 > 0:14:15The Dengineers have been motoring on.

0:14:15 > 0:14:18The base is down and the walls are up.

0:14:18 > 0:14:21Now, it's all about muscle power to get the roof in place

0:14:21 > 0:14:23before the end of the day.

0:14:27 > 0:14:30Easy, there, Dengineer Tim.

0:14:34 > 0:14:37- Have you got that up? - Hold it up.- Yes.

0:14:39 > 0:14:41It's the end of day one, and things have gone really, really well.

0:14:41 > 0:14:44All the Dengineers and Whitney have worked really hard.

0:14:44 > 0:14:47There's still a lot to do. There's a few surprises to come.

0:14:47 > 0:14:50But really, really pleased. It's great.

0:14:54 > 0:14:57It's day two, and yet another busy day for The Dengineers.

0:15:02 > 0:15:03Now that's the main structure is up,

0:15:03 > 0:15:07it's time to reveal one of the surprise elements of the den -

0:15:07 > 0:15:09a Perspex wall.

0:15:09 > 0:15:11Pull. Keep going, keep going.

0:15:11 > 0:15:13Keep going...

0:15:14 > 0:15:16Wow.

0:15:19 > 0:15:22- What do you think? - Oh, it's amazing.

0:15:23 > 0:15:26The doors are also a key design feature of the den,

0:15:26 > 0:15:31with two sets of stable doors being fitted.

0:15:31 > 0:15:34Obviously, we could go to the shop and buy all these bits brand-new,

0:15:34 > 0:15:37straight out of the warehouse.

0:15:37 > 0:15:39But if we use something that is probably going to get thrown away

0:15:39 > 0:15:42and end up in a tip, and create more rubbish,

0:15:42 > 0:15:45that's not a good thing. So if we can bring that back to life,

0:15:45 > 0:15:48and it has sort of a new life and a new purpose within our den,

0:15:48 > 0:15:51that means we're saving money, it's better for the environment,

0:15:51 > 0:15:54and it also means it's better for the den itself.

0:15:54 > 0:15:58There will be loads of upcycling in this den.

0:15:58 > 0:16:01But this one in particular is going to be pretty special.

0:16:07 > 0:16:10The Dengineers have been collecting loads of old clothes

0:16:10 > 0:16:12that were going to be thrown away

0:16:12 > 0:16:14and what they're going to do is cut them up, plait them,

0:16:14 > 0:16:19and then use that plait, coil it round to make a big circle,

0:16:19 > 0:16:21which is going to turn into an amazing rag rug.

0:16:25 > 0:16:29This is a big job, so all The Dengineers get involved.

0:16:29 > 0:16:32Super-quick.

0:16:32 > 0:16:34Can you do that one?

0:16:38 > 0:16:42That one goes into there. That one will come back over.

0:16:42 > 0:16:45Even Whitney's mum and dad have a go.

0:16:45 > 0:16:48The team have made metres and metres of plaited rags for the rug

0:16:48 > 0:16:51but Whitney won't get to see the finished product until her den

0:16:51 > 0:16:54is revealed in two days' time.

0:16:55 > 0:16:57I've lost it!

0:16:57 > 0:17:00Tony and Satwinder are aiming to use as many recycled materials

0:17:00 > 0:17:03as possible for Whitney's den,

0:17:03 > 0:17:07so they're going to cover two of the outer walls with milk crates.

0:17:07 > 0:17:10As you can see, they're quite strong.

0:17:10 > 0:17:13- Yeah.- So they'll be like structure for the walls outside.

0:17:13 > 0:17:16The other thing is that they're quite light and easy to move around,

0:17:16 > 0:17:18which will really help when we're putting them on den.

0:17:18 > 0:17:20We've got lots of different colours as well.

0:17:20 > 0:17:23So not only is it adding colour, it could add a pattern.

0:17:23 > 0:17:26It really kind of brings a bit of excitement to the outside,

0:17:26 > 0:17:29and makes it distinct to you.

0:17:29 > 0:17:32Tony and Satwinder want the milk crates to be a living wall,

0:17:32 > 0:17:35so they are filling them with the turf saved from the groundworks

0:17:35 > 0:17:41and will be adding plants to attract wildlife to the den.

0:17:41 > 0:17:44Whitney will be able to see the creatures visiting her den through

0:17:44 > 0:17:46the clear Perspex wall.

0:17:46 > 0:17:49Tony and Satwinder's idea was a really good.

0:17:49 > 0:17:51I'd never have thought of putting the milk crates on.

0:17:51 > 0:17:54I think it's amazing because every hour, there's

0:17:54 > 0:17:56something new happened to the den,

0:17:56 > 0:17:59and it looks really nice so far,

0:17:59 > 0:18:02so I'm thinking it's going to be really nice on the reveal day.

0:18:09 > 0:18:12Day three of the build is a big day.

0:18:12 > 0:18:14From now on, Whitney won't be able to see her den,

0:18:14 > 0:18:18and the team need to start on the inside if they want to get the

0:18:18 > 0:18:23electrics installed before the big reveal tomorrow.

0:18:23 > 0:18:28And no eco-den would be complete without a natural power supply.

0:18:28 > 0:18:32We feel it's really important that they den also generates its

0:18:32 > 0:18:35own electricity using a sustainable source.

0:18:35 > 0:18:38So on the roof we've got solar panels which convert the sun's

0:18:38 > 0:18:41energy into electricity and on the side we'll have a big wind turbine.

0:18:43 > 0:18:45Standing high above the den,

0:18:45 > 0:18:49the turbine makes electricity by using the wind to turn

0:18:49 > 0:18:52its propeller-like blades around a rotor.

0:18:52 > 0:18:56The rotor then spins a generator to create electricity, which provides

0:18:56 > 0:18:58power for Whitney's den.

0:19:02 > 0:19:05Now that Whitney's den is powered up,

0:19:05 > 0:19:07I want to learn more about why we all should be helping

0:19:07 > 0:19:11to save the environment.

0:19:11 > 0:19:14So I've brought Whitney to Fleetwood Beach in Lancashire

0:19:14 > 0:19:16to join in a beach clean.

0:19:17 > 0:19:21- Look at this, there's some glass. Do you see it?- Yeah.

0:19:24 > 0:19:28Beach cleans like this have been organised across the UK for over

0:19:28 > 0:19:2920 years and since they started,

0:19:29 > 0:19:34volunteers have removed over 4.5 million pieces of litter

0:19:34 > 0:19:38that could harm local wildlife.

0:19:38 > 0:19:41Whitney, why is this so important to you?

0:19:41 > 0:19:46It's important because if the plastic gets into the sea,

0:19:46 > 0:19:50the marine animals can get quite hurt,

0:19:50 > 0:19:52then they can die from eating plastic,

0:19:52 > 0:19:53or getting it caught on their nose.

0:19:53 > 0:19:56There's a can there, look. So if that can was open...

0:19:56 > 0:19:59- Yeah.- ..that would be a danger to an animal?

0:19:59 > 0:20:03Yeah. If everyone did a bit of recycling in this world,

0:20:03 > 0:20:06no-one would be out here doing litter picks and everything,

0:20:06 > 0:20:11so it would be, like, quite a lot of a better place for people.

0:20:11 > 0:20:15- And the whole planet would be better as well, wouldn't it?- Yeah.

0:20:17 > 0:20:20So this here... I mean, it's disgusting.

0:20:20 > 0:20:23It's facial wipes and wipes that they stick down the toilet

0:20:23 > 0:20:26that get washed up onto the beach, and people don't think about that.

0:20:26 > 0:20:29- So just stop throwing your wipes down the toilet.- Yeah.

0:20:29 > 0:20:32Now that we've cleaned up, it's time for Whitney

0:20:32 > 0:20:37to get a closer look at some of the marine wildlife

0:20:37 > 0:20:38that we're helping to protect.

0:20:40 > 0:20:45So I've brought her to a local aquarium that helps to breed,

0:20:45 > 0:20:48rescue and protect marine animals, and we're going to go snorkelling

0:20:48 > 0:20:52with some of these pretty cool creatures.

0:20:52 > 0:20:55Whitney, meet Mel. Mel, meet Whitney.

0:20:55 > 0:20:57- Hello.- Now, I'm going to cut straight to the chase -

0:20:57 > 0:21:01we're doing something that even I'm a little bit scared about.

0:21:01 > 0:21:04Can you just tell her what we're going to be swimming with?

0:21:04 > 0:21:06- Sharks, stingrays, and loads of fish.- Do they bite?

0:21:07 > 0:21:09They do definitely have teeth.

0:21:12 > 0:21:14So if we swim close to them, what happens?

0:21:14 > 0:21:16- You've got a bit of netting in between you, you'll be fine.- Oh, OK.

0:21:17 > 0:21:20I may be a little scared,

0:21:20 > 0:21:22but us Dengineers don't back down from a challenge.

0:21:22 > 0:21:25Come on, let's do it.

0:21:26 > 0:21:30Oh, it's cold!

0:21:30 > 0:21:34There are over 20 sharks in this ocean display,

0:21:34 > 0:21:37ranging from whitetip and blacktip sharks,

0:21:37 > 0:21:38to a very popular fellow by the name

0:21:38 > 0:21:41of Boris The Bow-mouthed Guitar Shark.

0:21:41 > 0:21:44- Wow, see the size of that one?! - Yeah!

0:21:44 > 0:21:47Look at is the colour on these ones. They're proper tropical fish.

0:21:47 > 0:21:50- Wow, look at the size of that one. - That is massive.

0:21:50 > 0:21:54All of these awesome creatures swimming around here can

0:21:54 > 0:21:56be injured and even killed as a result of man-made littering,

0:21:56 > 0:22:00which means it's mega-important that we recycle or rubbish,

0:22:00 > 0:22:05not leave it lying around or it can hurt wildlife and the environment.

0:22:05 > 0:22:06It's been brilliant today -

0:22:06 > 0:22:09going in the tank and doing the litter picking.

0:22:09 > 0:22:12I've learnt quite a few of the difference shark species,

0:22:12 > 0:22:14and saw what they actually look like.

0:22:14 > 0:22:18I've heard the names, but I haven't actually seen them

0:22:18 > 0:22:21up close or anything, so it's nice to get right up close to them.

0:22:25 > 0:22:29Back at the den, and it's all about the inside.

0:22:33 > 0:22:36It's been another really long day, and we're still working,

0:22:36 > 0:22:39and all The Dengineers have worked really hard all the way through the

0:22:39 > 0:22:42build, and they're pushing hard to get everything finished and make it

0:22:42 > 0:22:44look as good as it possibly can be.

0:22:44 > 0:22:46So it will be great to see Whitney

0:22:46 > 0:22:49and her family on the reveal tomorrow.

0:22:49 > 0:22:51A bit nervous about it, because you never know

0:22:51 > 0:22:52how they're going to react.

0:22:52 > 0:22:56We're really pleased with it, and I think, hopefully, they will be, too.

0:23:05 > 0:23:07It's the day of the big reveal,

0:23:09 > 0:23:11and The Dengineers are up early

0:23:11 > 0:23:14putting the finishing touches in place.

0:23:14 > 0:23:17I can't believe how much stuff they used to build this den that

0:23:17 > 0:23:19otherwise would have been just thrown away. It's incredible.

0:23:19 > 0:23:22It is so, so good. But there's still a lot to be done.

0:23:22 > 0:23:25- Shall we go and give them a hand? - We'd better.- Come on.

0:23:25 > 0:23:30- Where do you want these, guys?- These are just going to sit under here.

0:23:35 > 0:23:38- Do you like the cardboard tubes? - I love the cardboard tubes.

0:23:38 > 0:23:41These are from fabric shops, and they've still got the labels on

0:23:41 > 0:23:43- them, look.- Oh, yeah, yeah. - So we know where they came from.

0:23:43 > 0:23:46I love that, it's brilliant.

0:23:46 > 0:23:48As Whitney's friends and family arrive for the big reveal,

0:23:48 > 0:23:51all that's left to do is put the finishing touches

0:23:51 > 0:23:53to the upcycled rag rug.

0:23:53 > 0:23:55I'm in absolute suspense, I really am.

0:23:55 > 0:23:59I'm dying to look, but I haven't peeked.

0:23:59 > 0:24:01I haven't looked at all.

0:24:01 > 0:24:03Now, we've got to pick it up really carefully,

0:24:03 > 0:24:05because that glue's going to be wet a little bit.

0:24:05 > 0:24:10I'm about to see my den. I am so excited to see it! I can't wait.

0:24:10 > 0:24:12And there you have it... the rug.

0:24:20 > 0:24:24Whitney wanted an eco-den to share her passion for the environment

0:24:24 > 0:24:29with her friends, and to show just how fun being eco-friendly can be.

0:24:31 > 0:24:34Tony and Satwinder have transformed the bottom of her garden,

0:24:34 > 0:24:37and delivered an eco-extravaganza

0:24:37 > 0:24:41made from recycled, reclaimed and reused materials.

0:24:41 > 0:24:44But will Whitney be blown away by the result?

0:24:44 > 0:24:47Guys, are you ready to see the den?

0:24:48 > 0:24:50- ALL:- Yes!

0:24:50 > 0:24:55Five, four, three, two, one!

0:24:55 > 0:24:59- ALL:- Wow! - Oh, my gosh, it's amazing!

0:25:01 > 0:25:04- Wow.- Oh!

0:25:05 > 0:25:09- What do you reckon, Whitney? - Oh, it's so cool! I love it.

0:25:09 > 0:25:12It's fantastic. It is absolutely fantastic.

0:25:12 > 0:25:15The outside of Whitney's den is covered

0:25:15 > 0:25:18with reclaimed wooden pallets

0:25:18 > 0:25:21and Tony and Satwinder had used all the milk crates to bring to life

0:25:21 > 0:25:24a living wall, filled with turf and plants

0:25:24 > 0:25:27that will attract all sorts of wildlife.

0:25:27 > 0:25:30A water butt system collects rainwater,

0:25:30 > 0:25:33and the den also uses natural power with solar panels

0:25:33 > 0:25:37and a wind turbine, bringing electricity to the den.

0:25:40 > 0:25:42Right, Whitney, do you want to come and see?

0:25:42 > 0:25:45- Yes, please.- Come on down. - Come on in.

0:25:45 > 0:25:48Oh, whoa! It's amazing.

0:25:48 > 0:25:52- What do you like? - I like the little lights.

0:25:52 > 0:25:54- What are those lights powered by? - The wind.

0:25:54 > 0:25:56Yeah, the wind turbine and solar panels.

0:25:56 > 0:25:59- Come on, let's step in. - Wow.- Look at the tyre seat.

0:25:59 > 0:26:02- I want one of them.- Have a seat.

0:26:02 > 0:26:04I'm going to have a little seat on this. Very comfy, this.

0:26:04 > 0:26:06We've got some little bins for recycling.

0:26:06 > 0:26:08The desk, which has been made out of old pallets as well.

0:26:08 > 0:26:11When you're sat there, you get a view out through the window and can

0:26:11 > 0:26:12see all of the plants.

0:26:12 > 0:26:15On this side, you've got all the cardboard tubes we collected

0:26:15 > 0:26:19and then we've got old doorknobs so you can hang things on it.

0:26:19 > 0:26:20Even these pots have been recycled

0:26:20 > 0:26:23- so you can put plans in them and things.- That's fantastic.

0:26:23 > 0:26:26And then, one of our favourite things is the fact that you've got

0:26:26 > 0:26:29doors on that side as well, so you can see all the way through to the

0:26:29 > 0:26:32field and go through onto the deck on the other side.

0:26:32 > 0:26:36Do you know one thing - I don't like it, I love it!

0:26:36 > 0:26:40- Oh! You had us then. - I was like, no, what?

0:26:40 > 0:26:43Do you know what? You actually did scare me!

0:26:43 > 0:26:47'I never dreamed that this den would be so good.

0:26:47 > 0:26:49'I'm so pleased with it.'

0:26:49 > 0:26:53I think Tony and Satwinder have done a really good job in this den.

0:26:53 > 0:26:55I love it to pieces.

0:26:55 > 0:26:57So, Whitney, should we get your friends and family

0:26:57 > 0:26:59- in to have a look?- Yeah!- Come on.

0:26:59 > 0:27:02- Guys, you're not allowed in.- Oh! - Go on, in you go.

0:27:02 > 0:27:04In you get.

0:27:07 > 0:27:10Wow! Oh, this is fantastic.

0:27:10 > 0:27:16- Thanks very much, The Dengineers. - Oh, wow.- Do you like it?

0:27:16 > 0:27:18- Oh, yeah, fantastic. - Thank you so much.

0:27:18 > 0:27:21It's absolutely wonderful.

0:27:21 > 0:27:24It's fantastic. What a creation! I was absolutely amazed.

0:27:24 > 0:27:29- Gobsmacked.- It was far better than I could ever have imagined.

0:27:29 > 0:27:31The use of the materials and the upcycling

0:27:31 > 0:27:34has made it a truly environmentally-friendly den.

0:27:34 > 0:27:36She's going to have hours of fun out there.

0:27:36 > 0:27:37- It's just brilliant.- It is, yeah.

0:27:37 > 0:27:39A fantastic eco-den.

0:27:41 > 0:27:42I can't believe what The Dengineers

0:27:45 > 0:27:47have achieved with recycled materials.

0:27:47 > 0:27:50It's amazing. I would never have thought it would be like this.

0:27:50 > 0:27:53- ALL:- This den is done! - CHEERING
