0:01:21 > 0:01:24Whoa! LAUGHTER

0:01:25 > 0:01:29Today's Dengineer is nine-year-old Maddie from Birmingham.

0:01:29 > 0:01:33I really need your help, Dengineers, cos I love sport

0:01:33 > 0:01:36and I really want to win gold at the Paralympics.

0:01:36 > 0:01:38She loves anything to do with sport,

0:01:38 > 0:01:40she loves playing sport,

0:01:40 > 0:01:44she loves watching sport and she wants to just get better and better,

0:01:44 > 0:01:46and she's really, really competitive.

0:01:46 > 0:01:49Maddie's always been on the move since she was really little.

0:01:49 > 0:01:51She never really stops moving.

0:01:51 > 0:01:54And sport really helps Maddie in other ways, too.

0:01:54 > 0:01:58I've got a condition called cerebral palsy. It affects my muscles

0:01:58 > 0:02:01and I need to do exercises every day.

0:02:01 > 0:02:04Having a den will give me somewhere to do my exercises

0:02:04 > 0:02:07without my little sister Nancy jumping on me.

0:02:08 > 0:02:11We call her "The Hurricane". Maddie will start her exercises

0:02:11 > 0:02:14and Nancy thinks it's an opportunity to play pile on,

0:02:14 > 0:02:16and they just end up rolling around on the floor

0:02:16 > 0:02:18and no exercises ever get done.

0:02:21 > 0:02:23This den is so important to Maddie.

0:02:23 > 0:02:27I think it will just continue to inspire her to keep practising

0:02:27 > 0:02:29and to keep stretching herself,

0:02:29 > 0:02:33so that she can become the best sports person that she can be.

0:02:33 > 0:02:35Please, Dengineers, come and build my den.

0:02:35 > 0:02:39I really need your help to make my Paralympic dreams come true.

0:02:39 > 0:02:43And that's exactly what's going to happen, as our trusty

0:02:43 > 0:02:46Dengineers spring into action, rigging Maddie's school

0:02:46 > 0:02:49netball court with hidden cameras ready to surprise her.

0:02:50 > 0:02:55Maddie has absolutely no idea that we're here at her school.

0:02:55 > 0:02:56She thinks her PE teacher,

0:02:56 > 0:02:59Mr Jenkins, has set up a special training session

0:02:59 > 0:03:01with England Netball star Beth

0:03:01 > 0:03:03and it's going to be filmed for BBC Sport.

0:03:03 > 0:03:05- High fives!- High five!

0:03:05 > 0:03:08We're on a street outside the school

0:03:08 > 0:03:11and just up there is the netball court where Beth

0:03:11 > 0:03:14and Mr Jenkins are busy training with the team.

0:03:14 > 0:03:16All we've got to do is sneak up this alleyway

0:03:16 > 0:03:17and hope that nobody sees us.

0:03:17 > 0:03:19- Are you ready for it?- I'm ready.

0:03:19 > 0:03:21- Are you ready?- I'm born ready! Come on, let's go.- Yeah.

0:03:21 > 0:03:23LAUGHTER AND SHOUTING

0:03:23 > 0:03:25Do you want to...? You go forward, you go forward.

0:03:25 > 0:03:27- Are you sure? Right. - Yeah, I'm scared.

0:03:27 > 0:03:30They are so close.

0:03:30 > 0:03:32- They're like...there. - Tuck in a little bit.

0:03:32 > 0:03:33I'm pushing it.

0:03:33 > 0:03:35- GATE CLANKS AND CREAKS - Ssh.

0:03:35 > 0:03:38- JOE GIGGLES Ready?- Yeah, go, go.

0:03:40 > 0:03:42Excuse me, everybody.

0:03:42 > 0:03:43Hello.

0:03:43 > 0:03:45Hi, sorry to stop you,

0:03:45 > 0:03:47we're looking for Maddie. Is Maddie anywhere?

0:03:47 > 0:03:51- Maddie! There she is. Come forward, Maddie.- Come here, Maddie.

0:03:51 > 0:03:54- My name is Lauren. - And I'm Joe, hello.

0:03:54 > 0:03:56And we are from CBBC's The Dengineers.

0:03:56 > 0:03:58And we're here to tell you, Maddie,

0:03:58 > 0:04:01that you are going to get your dream den.

0:04:01 > 0:04:04- How does that sound?- It's great. - CHEERING

0:04:06 > 0:04:08- See you later.- Come on... - Are we going this way?

0:04:08 > 0:04:11It's so cool... Cos, like, it's not every day

0:04:11 > 0:04:15that the Dengineers are going to turn up at your school.

0:04:15 > 0:04:17It was so nice to see her little surprised face. She was...

0:04:17 > 0:04:21Yeah, a real shock to her, I think she's dead happy.

0:04:22 > 0:04:25We head straight to the Dengineers Mobile HQ.

0:04:25 > 0:04:27It's packed with awesome technology that will bring

0:04:27 > 0:04:29Maddie's sport den to life.

0:04:30 > 0:04:33Maddie, welcome to the Dengineers mobile HQ.

0:04:33 > 0:04:36In here is where we're going to take all of your ideas

0:04:36 > 0:04:38and come up with the design for your den.

0:04:38 > 0:04:41And remember, it is your den, so you're the boss, all right?

0:04:41 > 0:04:42You can have whatever you want.

0:04:42 > 0:04:45So first things first, what is the theme of the den?

0:04:45 > 0:04:48It's a sports den, because I've got cerebral palsy,

0:04:48 > 0:04:50and every time that I've done sports,

0:04:50 > 0:04:53it's really helped me get confidence back.

0:04:53 > 0:04:56- Wow.- That's such a good idea, isn't it?

0:04:56 > 0:04:58Explain for us, what is cerebral palsy?

0:04:58 > 0:05:02It's when your muscles get tighter each day and then

0:05:02 > 0:05:04you have to do stretches to make them looser.

0:05:04 > 0:05:07How will a sports den help, then?

0:05:07 > 0:05:09Cos I can stretch more than I normally do.

0:05:09 > 0:05:13Amazing. Do you want to get stuck in and have a look at some pictures?

0:05:13 > 0:05:15- Yeah.- What do you like the look of?

0:05:15 > 0:05:16Now, medals...

0:05:16 > 0:05:19Right, do you want somewhere to display, sort of, medals?

0:05:19 > 0:05:22- Yeah.- And what sports have you got medals for?

0:05:22 > 0:05:25I've got two medals for netball.

0:05:25 > 0:05:27- Yeah!- Wow! - High five to that, Maddie.

0:05:27 > 0:05:29She is medal award-winning.

0:05:29 > 0:05:32- I love that. - What else do you reckon?

0:05:32 > 0:05:33I like the GB flag.

0:05:33 > 0:05:36What is it about Team GB that you love?

0:05:36 > 0:05:40They always persevere and if, when they don't win,

0:05:40 > 0:05:42they're always like, "Let's try again,"

0:05:42 > 0:05:45- and "We're going to win." - I love that.- Yeah.

0:05:45 > 0:05:46But is it just the Olympic teams,

0:05:46 > 0:05:48or are you into the Paralympic teams?

0:05:48 > 0:05:50The Paralympic and the Olympic teams.

0:05:50 > 0:05:51Have you thought about maybe

0:05:51 > 0:05:54what you want the den to look like on the outside?

0:05:54 > 0:05:56- What sort of thing...?- Yeah.- Yes.

0:05:56 > 0:06:01Oh, wow. That's the Olympic stadium in Rio de Janeiro, isn't it?

0:06:01 > 0:06:03Why do you like the design of that?

0:06:03 > 0:06:06Cos it's, like, circular, like all the sports stadiums,

0:06:06 > 0:06:08and it lets light in.

0:06:08 > 0:06:10And...

0:06:10 > 0:06:12Sort of like running tracks.

0:06:12 > 0:06:16- Yeah.- That could be a really cool kind of flooring design?- Yeah.

0:06:16 > 0:06:18What about colours for your den?

0:06:18 > 0:06:22Er, I quite like the red one, which is this one.

0:06:24 > 0:06:26- Yeah, that's nice.- Yes.

0:06:26 > 0:06:28What else do we need in your den?

0:06:28 > 0:06:31Mm, probably a commentating microphone!

0:06:31 > 0:06:34A commentating microphone, what a great idea.

0:06:34 > 0:06:35That is a great idea.

0:06:35 > 0:06:37You can comment on everything that's happening in the den.

0:06:37 > 0:06:39You can get one of your friends to sit there and go,

0:06:39 > 0:06:41"Maddie is now having a drink."

0:06:41 > 0:06:42MADDIE LAUGHS

0:06:42 > 0:06:44"Maddie got up, is having a scratch

0:06:44 > 0:06:46"and has sat back down."

0:06:46 > 0:06:48- Brilliant.- Perfect. - I like all the sports.

0:06:48 > 0:06:52I'm in the football team, I'm in the netball. I do like badminton.

0:06:52 > 0:06:57- Yeah?- I like rugby, I play against my grandma in tennis.

0:06:57 > 0:06:58You need to go and have a sit down, I think.

0:06:58 > 0:07:01Do you know what I mean? Give yourself a break.

0:07:01 > 0:07:03You're playing all of the sports under the sun.

0:07:03 > 0:07:04Anything else, Maddie?

0:07:04 > 0:07:07- A podium.- Amazing.- So you can take some of the medals that you've

0:07:07 > 0:07:10already won and sort of pretend that you're having a ceremony.

0:07:10 > 0:07:12That would be brilliant.

0:07:12 > 0:07:14Ah, kit bag.

0:07:14 > 0:07:16Somewhere to put all the kit.

0:07:16 > 0:07:19Just some fruit and veg. Pretty easy to sort.

0:07:19 > 0:07:20Why do you like the fruit and veg, then?

0:07:20 > 0:07:24Because you have to keep fit and you have to train quite a lot.

0:07:24 > 0:07:27- And eat healthy.- You've got to be healthy.- Got to be healthy.

0:07:27 > 0:07:29Amazing. I think that is an incredible mood board.

0:07:29 > 0:07:31It's going to be really exciting, isn't it?

0:07:31 > 0:07:34But the main thing, Maddie, is are you happy with it?

0:07:34 > 0:07:37- I'm happy with it. - Are you sure you're happy with it?

0:07:37 > 0:07:39- I'm sure.- Amazing stuff.

0:07:39 > 0:07:42Maddie's straight out of the blocks with ideas for her mood board.

0:07:42 > 0:07:45She wants a den that will inspire her to fulfil her dreams

0:07:45 > 0:07:50of becoming a Paralympic athlete with her very own stadium.

0:07:50 > 0:07:52She needs a multi-sports space to hone her skills

0:07:52 > 0:07:55and somewhere to show off her sporting success.

0:07:57 > 0:08:00This den needs a designer who's got a great track record

0:08:00 > 0:08:02when it comes to the wow factor.

0:08:02 > 0:08:04It's Olga.

0:08:05 > 0:08:07With her creative flair and eye-catching designs,

0:08:07 > 0:08:09you can spot an Olga den from space.

0:08:09 > 0:08:13If anyone can make a den worthy of a gold medal, this girl can.

0:08:15 > 0:08:17I came up with a brilliant idea for your den.

0:08:17 > 0:08:18Basically, what we're going to do,

0:08:18 > 0:08:20we're going to build you a stadium,

0:08:20 > 0:08:22- because that's what you wanted, isn't it?- Yeah.

0:08:22 > 0:08:26This is like an acrylic that are very, very durable,

0:08:26 > 0:08:31waterproof and the most important thing is that they're see-through.

0:08:31 > 0:08:33So, when you're going to be inside of your den,

0:08:33 > 0:08:36you can still see your mum and dad in the kitchen,

0:08:36 > 0:08:37but they can't see you.

0:08:37 > 0:08:40They're really colourful and they're all part of the GB flag,

0:08:40 > 0:08:42- so I'm quite happy. - OLGA GASPS

0:08:42 > 0:08:46And the other thing is going to be a see-through roof.

0:08:46 > 0:08:49So, Maddie, are you happy to sign off my idea?

0:08:49 > 0:08:50Yes, definitely.

0:08:52 > 0:08:53Inspired by Maddie's ideas,

0:08:53 > 0:08:58Olga plans to create a sport den fit to host the Paralympics.

0:08:58 > 0:09:01From the outside, the den will look like a modern sports stadium,

0:09:01 > 0:09:05using coloured acrylic panels and angled walls to achieve the effect.

0:09:05 > 0:09:08Inside, the floor and wall will be covered in a running track design

0:09:08 > 0:09:10and there'll be a display area to show off

0:09:10 > 0:09:12Maddie's sporting achievements.

0:09:15 > 0:09:17It's time to kick of this build

0:09:17 > 0:09:19and the Dengineers are loaded up with all the kit

0:09:19 > 0:09:21to build Maddie's dream den.

0:09:22 > 0:09:24And there's a lot of it.

0:09:24 > 0:09:26It's just like a massive jigsaw puzzle.

0:09:26 > 0:09:29Let's hope they know how to put it together.

0:09:29 > 0:09:32Hi! Day one, everybody's arrived,

0:09:32 > 0:09:34Maddie's sporting theme is rubbing off on everybody.

0:09:34 > 0:09:37They're just warming up to start moving the shed.

0:09:37 > 0:09:38Dedicated bunch, this lot.

0:09:38 > 0:09:41No chocolate! No chocolate for you!

0:09:41 > 0:09:44You're a building athlete! You can have a banana, can't you?

0:09:46 > 0:09:47We've got a shed to move.

0:09:53 > 0:09:55Basically, what we've got to do is we've got to pick the shed up,

0:09:55 > 0:09:58put it on a massive skateboard,

0:09:58 > 0:10:00turn it a bit and back it into a corner.

0:10:00 > 0:10:01- MADDIE GIGGLES - Yeah.

0:10:01 > 0:10:03Oh...

0:10:06 > 0:10:09That's text book shed moving from the Dengineers there.

0:10:09 > 0:10:12Ten out of ten for style, performance and team work.

0:10:13 > 0:10:15But is Dad impressed?

0:10:15 > 0:10:18Well, I've had that shed for a very, very long time.

0:10:18 > 0:10:20It's been a good friend to me,

0:10:20 > 0:10:21but I think it's just about intact.

0:10:23 > 0:10:25It's not just the shed that's on the move.

0:10:25 > 0:10:27The guinea pigs are, too.

0:10:27 > 0:10:29- What are they called? - Stella and Bella.

0:10:29 > 0:10:31Size of that.

0:10:31 > 0:10:33It's like a cat. Hello.

0:10:33 > 0:10:34She hates me.

0:10:34 > 0:10:37Now that the guinea pigs' hutch is out of the way,

0:10:37 > 0:10:39the Dengineers can get building.

0:10:39 > 0:10:42So it's time to say bye-bye to Maddie's mum and dad.

0:10:42 > 0:10:46Dad, Mum, Nancy "The Hurricane", the Dengineers

0:10:46 > 0:10:47have well and truly arrived,

0:10:47 > 0:10:50and that means the garden is now Dengineers only.

0:10:50 > 0:10:51We've bought a sign and everything.

0:10:51 > 0:10:55So, in the nicest possible way, please get out of your own garden.

0:10:55 > 0:10:59- Oh.- That's all right. Say bye. Wave bye.- Bye.- Bye-bye.- Bye.

0:10:59 > 0:11:00See you later. Bye.

0:11:03 > 0:11:05The garden is officially off limits to parents,

0:11:05 > 0:11:07so down goes the base of the den.

0:11:12 > 0:11:14There's a lot to get done on this build

0:11:14 > 0:11:18and the team need everything to go right, especially the weather.

0:11:18 > 0:11:19- David?- Yes?

0:11:19 > 0:11:22Apparently it's going to be raining tomorrow, all day.

0:11:22 > 0:11:26- Great.- So I think we need to do much more than we estimated today.

0:11:26 > 0:11:29We need to get as much of the roof up today as possible,

0:11:29 > 0:11:31cos the roof is a little bit complicated on this one.

0:11:31 > 0:11:35- Oh, yeah. I know, I designed it. - Yeah...- I know. Sorry.

0:11:35 > 0:11:38Rain plus a tricky design could spell disaster

0:11:38 > 0:11:40for the Dengineers,

0:11:40 > 0:11:42so it's full steam ahead while the sun shines

0:11:42 > 0:11:45and the big job is bringing power from the house

0:11:45 > 0:11:46to the site of the den.

0:11:46 > 0:11:48Ross, what's going on here, mate? What are you doing?

0:11:48 > 0:11:49So, what we've done here,

0:11:49 > 0:11:53we've dug a trench out, ready for the electric cable down to the den

0:11:53 > 0:11:55and we're just about to drill through

0:11:55 > 0:11:57to connect up to the house fuse board.

0:11:57 > 0:12:00So you're going to actually drill through the house?

0:12:00 > 0:12:02Yes, through all the walls.

0:12:02 > 0:12:04Wow. Don't let me anywhere near that drill, it's massive.

0:12:04 > 0:12:06- Are you sure? - Yeah, I'm really sure...

0:12:06 > 0:12:08- DRILL BUZZES - OK! That's fine.

0:12:14 > 0:12:17Ross, how thick is that wall?

0:12:17 > 0:12:19The wall's about that thick.

0:12:19 > 0:12:21OK. And how far in are you now?

0:12:21 > 0:12:22ROSS LAUGHS

0:12:22 > 0:12:26Good. It's going to be a really good couple of hours. I'm excited.

0:12:26 > 0:12:29That's not the only drilling going on in Maddie's garden,

0:12:29 > 0:12:32as the frame of the den is fixed into place.

0:12:34 > 0:12:35Ooh.

0:12:35 > 0:12:37- I'll hold this bit. - OK.- You got it?

0:12:38 > 0:12:39It's like holding a dog!

0:12:39 > 0:12:41JOE STRAINS

0:12:41 > 0:12:44That's a lot of armoured cable right there. Good luck, Joe.

0:12:44 > 0:12:46Thanks, mate. This is the most work I've ever done.

0:12:48 > 0:12:49JOE WHEEZES

0:12:51 > 0:12:53The den is really starting to take shape

0:12:53 > 0:12:55and while the Dengineers fill in the gaps,

0:12:55 > 0:12:57I want to find out more about Maddie

0:12:57 > 0:12:59and why she needs this den from Mum and Dad.

0:12:59 > 0:13:03Did you have any idea when Maddie applied that we'd come in

0:13:03 > 0:13:05- and sort of semi-wreck your garden?- No.

0:13:05 > 0:13:08Where did her love of sport come from?

0:13:08 > 0:13:10Her love of sport really developed when we went to see

0:13:10 > 0:13:14the Olympics and Paralympics in London in 2012.

0:13:14 > 0:13:17- We just saw so many great sporting moments...- Yeah.

0:13:17 > 0:13:20- It lit a bit of a fire in her, do you think?- I think it did.

0:13:20 > 0:13:22Can you tell me a bit about cerebral palsy,

0:13:22 > 0:13:24what sort of condition that is?

0:13:24 > 0:13:27When you have cerebral palsy, there's a damage to the brain,

0:13:27 > 0:13:30which then can't be repaired, and for her, she's very lucky

0:13:30 > 0:13:32cos she's only got a small amount of damage,

0:13:32 > 0:13:36and so it only affects her on her legs

0:13:36 > 0:13:38and just a slight weakness on her left side.

0:13:38 > 0:13:41So, she's had plaster casts on both legs, or one leg

0:13:41 > 0:13:43if one's particularly bad.

0:13:43 > 0:13:45So when she's had her legs in plaster,

0:13:45 > 0:13:47- that's not because she's broken her legs...- No.

0:13:47 > 0:13:49- ..it's to keep them from breaking. - Exactly...

0:13:49 > 0:13:53So when her muscles get tight, they use it as a form of treatment.

0:13:53 > 0:13:56- So, it does hurt.- Yeah.- But she goes to school in her cast,

0:13:56 > 0:13:58she can go on her scooter in the cast...

0:13:58 > 0:14:00She doesn't let it stop her.

0:14:00 > 0:14:02- No.- I think she really does deserve it, doesn't she?

0:14:02 > 0:14:04She does definitely deserve it.

0:14:07 > 0:14:09The den's flying up, just as Olga hoped.

0:14:09 > 0:14:12It really is a piece of engineering, this design,

0:14:12 > 0:14:15and I want to check that Olga's covered all the bases.

0:14:15 > 0:14:18I've noticed the walls are sort of pointing out.

0:14:18 > 0:14:21Why have you done that and not normal straight walls?

0:14:21 > 0:14:25Well, I decided to construct it slightly differently

0:14:25 > 0:14:28to give the impression that the den is actually bigger than it is.

0:14:28 > 0:14:29That's amazing.

0:14:29 > 0:14:32In looking at it, I have thought of a possible problem,

0:14:32 > 0:14:34- if you wouldn't mind me running it past you.- Of course.

0:14:34 > 0:14:36I borrowed some of Nancy's building blocks,

0:14:36 > 0:14:38which is about my sort of level, just to explain.

0:14:38 > 0:14:41If you're building a wall at an angle,

0:14:41 > 0:14:44it's going to do that, isn't it? It's just going to fall down.

0:14:44 > 0:14:47Well, as you can see, ours is not doing that.

0:14:47 > 0:14:49- Yeah, but why?- Because we make sure

0:14:49 > 0:14:52that they're not going over the tipping point.

0:14:52 > 0:14:55In addition, we strengthened the floor and the walls

0:14:55 > 0:14:57so they're supporting the front walls from falling down.

0:14:57 > 0:15:00So because you know that you're building it on an angle,

0:15:00 > 0:15:02you've supported it everywhere you can.

0:15:02 > 0:15:04- Exactly.- Amazing.

0:15:05 > 0:15:08The tipping point is the point at which an object,

0:15:08 > 0:15:11like Maddie's den, is no longer balanced

0:15:11 > 0:15:14and adding even a small amount of weight can cause it to tip over.

0:15:15 > 0:15:18If Olga designed the den to be tall with a small base,

0:15:18 > 0:15:20it would have a high centre of gravity

0:15:20 > 0:15:22and be more likely to tip over,

0:15:22 > 0:15:26but she's made sure Maddie's den has a low centre of gravity

0:15:26 > 0:15:29and a wide base, which makes it more stable.

0:15:31 > 0:15:34This is a complex build and with bad weather forecast,

0:15:34 > 0:15:38the Dengineers put a temporary roof on to protect the den.

0:15:38 > 0:15:40Today has gone really quickly.

0:15:40 > 0:15:42Slightly chaotic to start with. However,

0:15:42 > 0:15:46we managed to achieve a lot and we are ready for the rain.

0:15:47 > 0:15:49Fingers crossed, there's no sign of it,

0:15:49 > 0:15:51but the Dengineers aren't taking any chances

0:15:51 > 0:15:55and everything is covered over for the night just in case.

0:15:58 > 0:16:02It's day two and just as Olga predicted, the rain has arrived,

0:16:02 > 0:16:04so the Dengineers have to create

0:16:04 > 0:16:06their very own undercover work space.

0:16:06 > 0:16:09Dengineer David calls a site meeting,

0:16:09 > 0:16:11as he's got a see-through material in mind

0:16:11 > 0:16:12to replace the temporary roof.

0:16:12 > 0:16:15So, there are a couple of options. One of them is,

0:16:15 > 0:16:17I found last night, I found a very, very clear material,

0:16:17 > 0:16:20- as you can see.- Yeah.- So you can see straight through it.

0:16:20 > 0:16:23What do you think? Cos then you can see the sky through this.

0:16:23 > 0:16:24- DAVID:- Like that?

0:16:24 > 0:16:27- MADDIE:- Yeah.- And that's not the only decision to be made.

0:16:27 > 0:16:29- DAVID:- I need to know which way these boards go.

0:16:29 > 0:16:31So do you want them to go longways, like that,

0:16:31 > 0:16:34or do you want them to go short-ways, like that?

0:16:34 > 0:16:35- MADDIE:- Longways, definitely.

0:16:35 > 0:16:37- DAVID:- Definitely? Great.

0:16:37 > 0:16:38Decisions made,

0:16:38 > 0:16:41I'm whisking Maddie away to Loughborough University

0:16:41 > 0:16:43for a little bit of sporting inspiration.

0:16:45 > 0:16:48So, Maddie, remind me, what is your sporting dream?

0:16:48 > 0:16:50To become a Paralympic runner.

0:16:50 > 0:16:52To become a Paralympic runner.

0:16:52 > 0:16:56Well, we have a running track, but I think we could do

0:16:56 > 0:16:59with a little bit of help from a Paralympian. What do you reckon?

0:16:59 > 0:17:02- Yeah.- Well, please meet Sophie Hahn.

0:17:02 > 0:17:03She is a gold-winning Paralympian.

0:17:03 > 0:17:06Hi, Maddie. Nice to meet you. How are you?

0:17:06 > 0:17:07Amazing. I'm speechless.

0:17:07 > 0:17:09Are you a bit speechless?

0:17:09 > 0:17:12Sophie Hahn is not only a Paralympic gold

0:17:12 > 0:17:14and silver medallist,

0:17:14 > 0:17:17she's also a three-times world champion and holds the world record

0:17:17 > 0:17:20for the 100m sprint in the T38 class.

0:17:20 > 0:17:23And just like Maddie, Sophie has cerebral palsy, too.

0:17:26 > 0:17:29It's not every day a gold medallist shows you how to sprint

0:17:29 > 0:17:31and it's way more complicated than I thought.

0:17:33 > 0:17:34So what do I do with my hands, guys?

0:17:34 > 0:17:37- You want big arms, like that. - Big arms.- Yeah.

0:17:37 > 0:17:38Maddie, any tips for me?

0:17:38 > 0:17:42- Have your strongest leg at the front.- High knees, like this.

0:17:43 > 0:17:45It's really brilliant, training with her.

0:17:49 > 0:17:52Sophie's coach, Joe, has arrived to teach us some hurdle drills,

0:17:52 > 0:17:54which will help us with our technique.

0:17:54 > 0:17:57If you watch Sophie, what she does, it's a very easy exercise.

0:17:57 > 0:17:58You want to be able to have balance,

0:17:58 > 0:18:01cos if you have no balance when you try to run,

0:18:01 > 0:18:02you move slower.

0:18:03 > 0:18:05That's good. Well done.

0:18:05 > 0:18:07- Excellent.- Good balance.

0:18:07 > 0:18:09- Yeah!- You've done this before, haven't you?

0:18:09 > 0:18:13- Running position with your hands. - So, like that?- That's it.

0:18:13 > 0:18:15Down. What's that doing?

0:18:15 > 0:18:17You've got a left arm and a left leg.

0:18:17 > 0:18:19- Ah...- And you should have a good...

0:18:21 > 0:18:22Good. Well done.

0:18:22 > 0:18:24- Yes.- Well done.

0:18:24 > 0:18:26- Good.- Yes. Yes.- Well done.

0:18:26 > 0:18:29Sprinting isn't just a career for Sophie.

0:18:29 > 0:18:32It plays a vital role in helping her manage her cerebral palsy.

0:18:32 > 0:18:34So, tell us about your condition, Sophie.

0:18:34 > 0:18:37So, I have mild cerebral palsy, so my right side's weaker

0:18:37 > 0:18:39than my left, so my balance is not very good.

0:18:39 > 0:18:41So, as you can see, this doesn't want to come up,

0:18:41 > 0:18:43but this is much higher.

0:18:43 > 0:18:45So, it's your right side that's slightly worse

0:18:45 > 0:18:46- than the left side.- That's correct.

0:18:46 > 0:18:49How do you feel when it comes to sport and cerebral palsy?

0:18:49 > 0:18:52I think playing sport is brilliant. I just love playing sport,

0:18:52 > 0:18:55I just carry on doing normal things and forget sometimes

0:18:55 > 0:18:58I have a disability and just hopefully crack on, really.

0:18:58 > 0:19:03And it's that attitude that's taken Sophie all the way to the top.

0:19:05 > 0:19:08It's not every day you get to train with a Paralympian sprinter,

0:19:08 > 0:19:12and Maddie wants to show what she's made of.

0:19:12 > 0:19:13- Yeah, that's very good.- Yeah.

0:19:13 > 0:19:16She's so quick, isn't she? Out there. She's gone!

0:19:16 > 0:19:19It's only a practice, Mads. Come back, we're only practising!

0:19:19 > 0:19:21LAUREN LAUGHS

0:19:22 > 0:19:23That's really good. Yeah, go on.

0:19:23 > 0:19:25Yes.

0:19:27 > 0:19:30I just stop, she just carries on and on and on and on.

0:19:30 > 0:19:33I think Maddie's brilliant. I think she's really enjoying it.

0:19:33 > 0:19:36She's very talented. I'm impressed with all the hurdle drills,

0:19:36 > 0:19:38so I think she's doing a marvellous job.

0:19:39 > 0:19:41I have a few things for your den.

0:19:41 > 0:19:43- This is for you, I've got this. - Thank you.

0:19:43 > 0:19:45- Here's a cap.- Thank you.

0:19:45 > 0:19:48And then here's one of the tops I wore in Rio,

0:19:48 > 0:19:50- so there you go.- Thank you.

0:19:50 > 0:19:52So you actually wore that in Rio

0:19:52 > 0:19:54while you were competing and getting your medal?

0:19:54 > 0:19:56- That's correct, yeah. - That is amazing.

0:19:56 > 0:19:59- What do you think, Maddie? - Shocked and it's really exciting.

0:19:59 > 0:20:01I am very jealous right now.

0:20:01 > 0:20:02CAMERA CLICKS

0:20:04 > 0:20:08Back at the den, the Dengineers are working up a sweat

0:20:08 > 0:20:11to get the coloured acrylic panels in that form the walls

0:20:11 > 0:20:13and put Maddie's new roof up.

0:20:13 > 0:20:14Then there's the painting.

0:20:14 > 0:20:16So the next thing, we need to start painting

0:20:16 > 0:20:19- the construction on the front. - OK.- Yeah?- Yeah.

0:20:22 > 0:20:26It feels a bit weird, because you're used to painting paper

0:20:26 > 0:20:29and not, like, really big pieces of construction.

0:20:29 > 0:20:31Well done.

0:20:31 > 0:20:33Maddie was incredible today.

0:20:33 > 0:20:35Her painting skills are amazing.

0:20:35 > 0:20:39All the surfaces, nice and smooth, no drippage anywhere.

0:20:39 > 0:20:42I don't even have to say anything, it's all done.

0:20:46 > 0:20:50It's day three of the build, and the weather can't make up its mind.

0:20:50 > 0:20:52We've had rain on and off all night,

0:20:52 > 0:20:54so working conditions aren't the best

0:20:54 > 0:20:57and the team are really up against it to get the den finished on time.

0:20:57 > 0:21:00It's wet, it's cold

0:21:00 > 0:21:01and everything's dirty.

0:21:01 > 0:21:04- OLGA LAUGHS - And I'm really worried.

0:21:04 > 0:21:05Cheer up, Olgs.

0:21:05 > 0:21:08At least inside the den is looking bright and cheerful.

0:21:12 > 0:21:14Oi, Saida, that tickles. Stop it.

0:21:14 > 0:21:17There's lots of surprises in store for Maddie,

0:21:17 > 0:21:21as from now on, she won't be able to see her den until the big reveal.

0:21:21 > 0:21:23But that doesn't mean she can down tools.

0:21:23 > 0:21:27Olga's got a special job for her. And I've been roped in, too.

0:21:31 > 0:21:33So, what we're going to be doing here is a podium.

0:21:33 > 0:21:35We're going to make it out of tyres, why not?

0:21:35 > 0:21:37- Why not? Makes sense.- Yeah?- Ish.

0:21:37 > 0:21:39There you go. Ooh!

0:21:39 > 0:21:42It's a lot of tyre, innit? OK, like, first place.

0:21:42 > 0:21:44- Yep. That's going to be second... - Yeah.- ..and third.

0:21:44 > 0:21:46Goggles on. Oh, Maddie's ready.

0:21:46 > 0:21:49Yeah, Maddie's on. Let's do a bit of painting.

0:21:49 > 0:21:52We're customising the tyres with different coloured paints

0:21:52 > 0:21:54and finally, the sun's come out to help us.

0:21:54 > 0:21:56It's hard work, this, innit?

0:21:58 > 0:21:59I don't know.

0:21:59 > 0:22:02- Look at that.- What a coverage, she's a pro.

0:22:02 > 0:22:05- She's quicker than you, Olga. - I know!- You need to keep up.

0:22:05 > 0:22:08- You can do mine, cos you're such a good painter.- What?

0:22:11 > 0:22:13Well done. We can let it dry now.

0:22:16 > 0:22:17While the tyres are drying,

0:22:17 > 0:22:20the team put the finishing touches to the painting,

0:22:20 > 0:22:23before laying the running track wall and floor

0:22:23 > 0:22:25with the biggest piece of vinyl I've ever seen.

0:22:25 > 0:22:27The right way up.

0:22:32 > 0:22:35We decided to go with the floor that goes up

0:22:35 > 0:22:37in the wall and then looks like a race track.

0:22:37 > 0:22:40And I think that's going to give her an impression

0:22:40 > 0:22:42that she's actually in the middle of the stadium.

0:22:42 > 0:22:46It's up, and all that's left to do is flatten out the bubbles.

0:22:46 > 0:22:48There's a bubble over there, bubble over there.

0:22:48 > 0:22:50Corner.

0:22:50 > 0:22:53After one final roll around the running track is looking good,

0:22:53 > 0:22:57but outside, the weather has taken a turn for the worse again

0:22:57 > 0:22:59and it's slowing things down.

0:22:59 > 0:23:01Having to tarp everything is an issue.

0:23:01 > 0:23:04Everything's wet, everything's muddy, it's difficult to paint,

0:23:04 > 0:23:07all your materials get wet, you've got to keep your tools dry,

0:23:07 > 0:23:08plus the den's a very unusual den,

0:23:08 > 0:23:11which is taking a little bit longer to put together.

0:23:13 > 0:23:16Despite all of that, the Dengineers have pulled together

0:23:16 > 0:23:18and there's one person who is very excited

0:23:18 > 0:23:20about what tomorrow will bring.

0:23:20 > 0:23:23Tomorrow, I get to see my finished den for the first time

0:23:23 > 0:23:26and I really... I don't know how I'm going to sleep tonight,

0:23:26 > 0:23:28cos I'm just so excited.

0:23:39 > 0:23:42It's the final day. In just a matter of hours, Maddie's going to see

0:23:42 > 0:23:44her sport den for the very first time -

0:23:44 > 0:23:45and it's raining.

0:23:45 > 0:23:47Again.

0:23:47 > 0:23:50Most sports, rain would stop play, but not us.

0:23:50 > 0:23:53The Dengineers keep going whatever the weather.

0:23:54 > 0:23:57So, it's a sprint to the finish for the Dengineers, as they race

0:23:57 > 0:23:59to get Maddie's den finished on time,

0:23:59 > 0:24:01and we're a team member down,

0:24:01 > 0:24:04cos poor Lauren's under the weather. Get well soon, Loz.

0:24:08 > 0:24:10Olga, we're actually in it.

0:24:10 > 0:24:13- It's amazing.- I know, finally.

0:24:13 > 0:24:14I love the floor.

0:24:14 > 0:24:16It really works, sort of going up there, doesn't it?

0:24:16 > 0:24:19- It does, doesn't it? - Is there anything I can do to...?

0:24:19 > 0:24:22Yes, well, we need to put more pictures up. Can you help with that?

0:24:22 > 0:24:24- OK. Yeah, I can.- Brilliant. That one goes here...

0:24:24 > 0:24:27Yeah? Wow, and that's signed by Beth Cobden, isn't it?

0:24:27 > 0:24:30- Yes, it is.- Look at 'em all! Max Whitlock up there.

0:24:30 > 0:24:34It's incredible. Oh, wow! It's like a commentary corner.

0:24:34 > 0:24:36Olga is stood in the den.

0:24:36 > 0:24:38She looks slightly on edge.

0:24:38 > 0:24:41- OLGA LAUGHS - She's not sure how it's going to go.
