0:00:31 > 0:00:34The den is done!

0:00:37 > 0:00:41Merry Christmas!

0:00:54 > 0:00:58Welcome to a very special episode of The Dengineers.

0:00:58 > 0:01:01Yes, today we're at a children's hospice on the Wirral

0:01:01 > 0:01:04to surprise a group of children with the news that they're going

0:01:04 > 0:01:05to get the den of their dreams.

0:01:05 > 0:01:08And strap yourself in because this is going to be

0:01:08 > 0:01:09our biggest build yet!

0:01:13 > 0:01:17Today's Dengineers are the amazing folk of Claire House

0:01:17 > 0:01:21Children's Hospice, a Children in Need supported project.

0:01:21 > 0:01:23Dengineers, we really need your help to build us

0:01:23 > 0:01:25an awesome den for our new hospice.

0:01:25 > 0:01:29Where we can make lasting memories with our friends and families.

0:01:29 > 0:01:32A hospice is a place that provides care for children with

0:01:32 > 0:01:35life-limiting conditions and their families.

0:01:35 > 0:01:36Ready, Hol?

0:01:37 > 0:01:39A big part of what

0:01:39 > 0:01:40we do is supporting the family

0:01:40 > 0:01:43and that's really important for brothers and sisters.

0:01:43 > 0:01:45There's one, Shea.

0:01:45 > 0:01:49That support carries on, sadly, when a child dies.

0:01:49 > 0:01:52Providing care afterwards is so important.

0:01:54 > 0:01:58We used to come to the pool and we've got videos of Ellie

0:01:58 > 0:02:00and Mia having fun.

0:02:00 > 0:02:03They're memories that are just so important to us.

0:02:03 > 0:02:06Mia's sister Ellie spent a lot of time here before she sadly died

0:02:06 > 0:02:10when Mia was three and the hospice has played a huge role in helping

0:02:10 > 0:02:12her deal with the loss of her sister.

0:02:13 > 0:02:16She can speak to kids who have gone through the same things

0:02:16 > 0:02:19and you can see the fun they have.

0:02:19 > 0:02:22It's quite a lonely place if your brother or sister has died

0:02:22 > 0:02:24and the hospice really helps them.

0:02:24 > 0:02:27You can see that they grow up and it's not a scary thing.

0:02:27 > 0:02:30The hospice is opening a brand-new site in Liverpool so they can

0:02:30 > 0:02:34reach even more seriously ill children and their families.

0:02:34 > 0:02:37And it just so happens there's an area around the back that is

0:02:37 > 0:02:38perfect for a dream den.

0:02:38 > 0:02:41The work that we do with these families is all about creating

0:02:41 > 0:02:43memories that last a lifetime.

0:02:43 > 0:02:46If we could make a den outside for all the children

0:02:46 > 0:02:49and their brothers and sisters, it would be absolutely brilliant.

0:02:49 > 0:02:51These guys really need our help, Joe.

0:02:51 > 0:02:53And that's exactly what they're going to get,

0:02:53 > 0:02:55they just don't know it yet.

0:02:57 > 0:03:00For today's hit, we've come to hospice HQ

0:03:00 > 0:03:03and our merry band of Dengineers have been busy

0:03:03 > 0:03:07fitting their super-spying hidden cameras all over the place.

0:03:07 > 0:03:10- I'm a bit nervous.- I'm excited.

0:03:10 > 0:03:12Our Dengineers have started to arrive at the hospice

0:03:12 > 0:03:16and Loz and I have the perfect watch-out spot just above reception.

0:03:16 > 0:03:18There's a lot of them, isn't there?

0:03:18 > 0:03:20There's parents, siblings...

0:03:22 > 0:03:23Ooh.

0:03:25 > 0:03:27OK, thumbs up. Come on.

0:03:30 > 0:03:35Everyone is in position, time to deliver the amazing news.

0:03:35 > 0:03:39- Sorry, sorry. Hello, hello, everybody.- Hi.

0:03:39 > 0:03:42So we've got a little bit of a surprise for you this morning.

0:03:42 > 0:03:45Actually, it's a massive surprise. My name is Joe.

0:03:45 > 0:03:47And my name is Lauren.

0:03:47 > 0:03:49And we're from CBBC's The Dengineers.

0:03:49 > 0:03:52CHEERING

0:03:54 > 0:03:58Now, we've heard that there's a second hospice site being

0:03:58 > 0:04:01built over in Liverpool and you guys are going to need a space

0:04:01 > 0:04:04where you can play with each other, where you can relax

0:04:04 > 0:04:08- and you can all hang out, does that sound right?- Yeah.

0:04:08 > 0:04:11The good news is that's exactly what you're going to get.

0:04:11 > 0:04:15THEY CHEER

0:04:15 > 0:04:18Not just that, it's going to be the biggest den we've ever built.

0:04:18 > 0:04:23I was like so surprised, I was like this...

0:04:23 > 0:04:30I'm so excited, and it's basically been my dream to build a den.

0:04:30 > 0:04:34- Who's up for a bit of hard work as well?- Me!

0:04:34 > 0:04:36- Are you sure?- Yeah.

0:04:36 > 0:04:39I'm excited about when we make the den.

0:04:39 > 0:04:42It'll be fun to build it with all our mates.

0:04:42 > 0:04:46There's very few places that children who've got complex

0:04:46 > 0:04:48health care needs, in wheelchairs can play together with

0:04:48 > 0:04:52their brothers and sisters. So to be able to do that will be brilliant.

0:04:52 > 0:04:54It's lovely to meet you, Shea.

0:04:54 > 0:04:57I'm really happy, I'm really happy.

0:04:58 > 0:05:02It's going to give opportunity for kids and siblings and mums

0:05:02 > 0:05:06and dads to have memories which are more important than anything.

0:05:06 > 0:05:10Our first port of call is the Dengineers' mobile HQ which has some

0:05:10 > 0:05:13mega cool technology to get this den rolling.

0:05:15 > 0:05:16And it's Ruby, Mia and Liam

0:05:16 > 0:05:20who are representing the hospice Dengineers.

0:05:20 > 0:05:22Now you all use the hospice in different ways

0:05:22 > 0:05:25so you're like the best people to have in here to tell us

0:05:25 > 0:05:27what you're going to need from the den.

0:05:27 > 0:05:28You guys are in charge here.

0:05:28 > 0:05:31We're going to take all those ideas that you've got buzzing around,

0:05:31 > 0:05:33get them onto this massive screen

0:05:33 > 0:05:37and we can work out how we're going to make this ginormous den.

0:05:37 > 0:05:40Have a little look, see what you like.

0:05:40 > 0:05:43This so that you can chillax in there, like.

0:05:43 > 0:05:46Wow, lovely use of chillax.

0:05:46 > 0:05:48I like the disco one there.

0:05:48 > 0:05:49That does look amazing, doesn't it?

0:05:49 > 0:05:51So like a party room maybe.

0:05:51 > 0:05:55I love the idea of a dance and boogie. Guaranteed fun.

0:05:55 > 0:05:59I think this because it represents family.

0:05:59 > 0:06:03It's like important to have memories with your family.

0:06:03 > 0:06:05Why are memories important to you?

0:06:05 > 0:06:08I lost my sister a few years ago and I always think of her

0:06:08 > 0:06:11when I'm at Claire House and have fun times.

0:06:11 > 0:06:13That's what it's all about, isn't it?

0:06:13 > 0:06:15Remembering the really nice times you had together.

0:06:15 > 0:06:18What do we think it might look like?

0:06:18 > 0:06:19Could have like a treehouse?

0:06:19 > 0:06:22Great stuff, tell us about this picture?

0:06:22 > 0:06:25It's a boy and he donated his treehouse

0:06:25 > 0:06:28so that families could enjoy it too.

0:06:28 > 0:06:30And his name's Carson.

0:06:30 > 0:06:32That's amazing, so maybe that's something

0:06:32 > 0:06:34we could incorporate into the den.

0:06:34 > 0:06:36Liam, what are you into that you'd quite like to see in the den?

0:06:36 > 0:06:41- Cars.- Ah, you like a bit of speed do you, Liam?- Yeah.

0:06:41 > 0:06:44How can we incorporate speed or something into the den?

0:06:44 > 0:06:47- A zip wire.- Zip line.

0:06:47 > 0:06:49You could have a zip wire through the whole den?

0:06:49 > 0:06:52And it could be for disabled people as well.

0:06:52 > 0:06:54- That would be so cool!- Wow.

0:06:55 > 0:06:59Dengineers Ruby, Mia and Liam have decided on a tree house theme

0:06:59 > 0:07:02for the hospice mega den, with areas to party,

0:07:02 > 0:07:06chill and make amazing memories with their friends and family.

0:07:06 > 0:07:09Oh, and they'd love an exhilarating zip line too.

0:07:12 > 0:07:15But who will make our Dengineers' dreams a reality?

0:07:17 > 0:07:19Meet Sege.

0:07:19 > 0:07:21With over 30 years in the building biz,

0:07:21 > 0:07:23he's perfect to take on

0:07:23 > 0:07:25our biggest den ever.

0:07:25 > 0:07:28But for this beast, Sege is going to need help so he's drafted in

0:07:28 > 0:07:33fellow designers Olga, Maral and Tony and Satwinder to help out.

0:07:33 > 0:07:36Now, I know all your Dengineers couldn't be here today

0:07:36 > 0:07:39but I'm going to explain the den to you so you can go away

0:07:39 > 0:07:42- and tell all your friends, yeah?- OK.

0:07:42 > 0:07:45I think we should create a bit of a village that's all

0:07:45 > 0:07:47- up in the air, on stilts. Does that sound good?- Yeah.

0:07:47 > 0:07:50I've designed these places where you can all go

0:07:50 > 0:07:54and hang out, all your parents and your friends and your siblings

0:07:54 > 0:07:57and just have a lot of fun in your own little wonderland.

0:07:57 > 0:08:00- Yeah.- You all like to communicate in different ways, don't you?

0:08:00 > 0:08:03We use sign language and use our eyes to communicate.

0:08:03 > 0:08:05Well, I've got a surprise for you.

0:08:05 > 0:08:07There is a special part of the den

0:08:07 > 0:08:09where you can all communicate, all together.

0:08:09 > 0:08:13It's just going to be fantastic and I think you're going to love it.

0:08:13 > 0:08:14- And how about a zip line?- Yeah.

0:08:14 > 0:08:16And wouldn't it be good

0:08:16 > 0:08:19- if I could get you in there with your chair, Liam?- Mmm.

0:08:19 > 0:08:21I think that's very, very doable.

0:08:21 > 0:08:23What do you think to the designs?

0:08:23 > 0:08:25- Amazing.- Really?! - Brilliant.

0:08:25 > 0:08:26So, am I good to go then?

0:08:26 > 0:08:29- Is this the sign off, can I get started?- Yeah.

0:08:29 > 0:08:31Fantastic, I can't wait.

0:08:32 > 0:08:35Sege's plans for our biggest den ever have been given

0:08:35 > 0:08:37the stamp of approval from the Dengineers.

0:08:37 > 0:08:41He's designed a treehouse-inspired village, including places to

0:08:41 > 0:08:45communicate, party and chill out with friends and family.

0:08:45 > 0:08:48As if that wasn't huge enough, Sege has also designed a zip line

0:08:48 > 0:08:52which is accessible for every child at the hospice and a happy path

0:08:52 > 0:08:57which will contain hundreds of happy memories sent in by CBBC viewers.

0:08:57 > 0:09:00I didn't think it was going to be that good

0:09:00 > 0:09:02and I'm really looking forward to building it.

0:09:02 > 0:09:04This is a fantastically big den,

0:09:04 > 0:09:08it's the biggest build we've ever had to attempt on the Dengineers.

0:09:08 > 0:09:10It's going to mean so much to the kids

0:09:10 > 0:09:14so it's really, really important that we pull this off.

0:09:14 > 0:09:17Plans signed off, the team start preparing the hospice ground

0:09:17 > 0:09:18for this colossal build

0:09:18 > 0:09:21and I get together a group of Dengineers to help

0:09:21 > 0:09:23with a spot of housekeeping.

0:09:23 > 0:09:26Jan, Lesley, you are both wonderful, we love you very much

0:09:26 > 0:09:29but we've got a message for you. You ready, everybody?

0:09:29 > 0:09:30Three, two, one...

0:09:30 > 0:09:33Get out! Dengineers only!

0:09:33 > 0:09:36And you haven't got a T-shirt, so see you later. Bye.

0:09:36 > 0:09:39- We've got to go. - We still love you, bye-bye.

0:09:39 > 0:09:42I'm really, really excited about it.

0:09:42 > 0:09:44Although a bit nerve-racking to hand over the control,

0:09:44 > 0:09:47it's going to be amazing.

0:09:47 > 0:09:50For our families, time is precious so having a den like this

0:09:50 > 0:09:52outside our hospice, what more could you ask?

0:09:54 > 0:09:57For this build, Sege is planning to raise the entire

0:09:57 > 0:10:01den off the ground using 170 logs.

0:10:01 > 0:10:05We have got to shift all of those logs over there.

0:10:06 > 0:10:10- Are you up for it?- Yeah! - Yes!

0:10:10 > 0:10:12These logs are needed all over the site to be put

0:10:12 > 0:10:16into the hundreds of holes created by the Dengineers' digger.

0:10:17 > 0:10:21OK. Wow, that's a lot of log.

0:10:23 > 0:10:26That's very heavy.

0:10:26 > 0:10:28Yes, OK.

0:10:28 > 0:10:29That's it everyone.

0:10:29 > 0:10:31I do this stuff all the time.

0:10:31 > 0:10:34No, you don't, you can tell you don't.

0:10:34 > 0:10:37If you placed all 170 logs on top of each other,

0:10:37 > 0:10:41they'd be roughly the same height as three Big Bens!

0:10:41 > 0:10:44It's just weird because I'm in the gym all the time.

0:10:44 > 0:10:47- Really?- Joe was terrible at lifting them and he lies,

0:10:47 > 0:10:51he says he goes to the gym but you could tell he doesn't.

0:10:51 > 0:10:56Has it got to be like high, can we just like,

0:10:56 > 0:10:59do a normal one on the floor?

0:10:59 > 0:11:00No?

0:11:01 > 0:11:05Whilst Joe and co take a well-earned break, the rest of the team

0:11:05 > 0:11:08push on and get all the logs set into the ground.

0:11:09 > 0:11:13With the ground ready, it's time for the rest of the Dengineers'

0:11:13 > 0:11:19team to arrive, and they arrive with roughly 3,000 metres of timber.

0:11:19 > 0:11:23If you laid this timber on top of each other it would be the

0:11:23 > 0:11:26same height as 1,687 Seges head to toe.

0:11:26 > 0:11:30This is the biggest den we've ever done, it's huge.

0:11:32 > 0:11:36My worry is I may have gone too big because

0:11:36 > 0:11:39when you think about the amount of time we've got to do this in

0:11:39 > 0:11:44compared to the amount of work we've got to do, I am more than worried.

0:11:44 > 0:11:46Hold that tight for me, Puds.

0:11:46 > 0:11:48The Dengineers have well and truly moved in

0:11:48 > 0:11:52and Sege has a task that needs some immediate attention.

0:11:52 > 0:11:55One of the biggest jobs we've got to do this morning is chainsaw

0:11:55 > 0:11:58all of these stumps down to a certain height,

0:11:58 > 0:12:01so it's very important we get them almost millimetre perfect.

0:12:01 > 0:12:05If we get the calculations wrong and cut the posts too short

0:12:05 > 0:12:10we have a problem, which would give me so much grief it's unreal.

0:12:10 > 0:12:13Whilst Dengineer Derrick gets stuck in carefully cutting down the

0:12:13 > 0:12:18stumps, our Dengineers help me make some refreshments for the team.

0:12:18 > 0:12:21Instead of just boring old water, how about we make some fruity water?

0:12:21 > 0:12:23- Yeah!- The man in charge,

0:12:23 > 0:12:26it's Sege the Ledge - what kind of fruit would he have?

0:12:26 > 0:12:29Cucumber? Because he's tall and thin.

0:12:29 > 0:12:33Sege and that looks exactly the same to me.

0:12:33 > 0:12:35There are around 50 people working on site

0:12:35 > 0:12:39so the Dengineers carry on making lots of fruity drinks...

0:12:41 > 0:12:43..and I catch up with Leyton

0:12:43 > 0:12:47who has a special connection to this treehouse theme.

0:12:47 > 0:12:49My little brother Carson had a treehouse.

0:12:49 > 0:12:53Carson was energetic, happy

0:12:53 > 0:12:55and he always loved everyone.

0:12:55 > 0:12:57Leyton's brother Carson was very ill

0:12:57 > 0:13:01and spent lots of time receiving care at the hospice.

0:13:01 > 0:13:03It was a nice place to stay.

0:13:03 > 0:13:05It was comfortable for Carson,

0:13:05 > 0:13:09there was lots of different rooms where he could play and have fun.

0:13:09 > 0:13:13When Carson got quite poorly, what was one of the things that he

0:13:13 > 0:13:16- really wanted. - He wanted a treehouse.

0:13:16 > 0:13:19And that's exactly what you got for him, didn't you?

0:13:19 > 0:13:20What was the treehouse like?

0:13:20 > 0:13:27It was quite big and he'd play games and relax and read books.

0:13:27 > 0:13:31I used to read him books, it was special.

0:13:31 > 0:13:35The time came for Carson to move to the Wirral hospice full time

0:13:35 > 0:13:37and his awesome treehouse came with him.

0:13:37 > 0:13:39Carson sadly died shortly after,

0:13:39 > 0:13:41but his treehouse is still there

0:13:41 > 0:13:44for other children to enjoy as much as he did.

0:13:44 > 0:13:47They like to play and hang out with friends

0:13:47 > 0:13:50and they like to just get away from everyone

0:13:50 > 0:13:56if they're feeling upset or unhappy and that's really special.

0:13:57 > 0:14:00The Dengineers' drink break has done the job and the refreshed team

0:14:00 > 0:14:05start to construct the steel frames for the den's amazing zip wire.

0:14:05 > 0:14:07A part of the den which has given our Sege

0:14:07 > 0:14:09a bit of an engineering headache.

0:14:09 > 0:14:13It's very important that this zip wire is accessible to

0:14:13 > 0:14:18everyone at the hospice, so we've had to create a basket-shaped cradle

0:14:18 > 0:14:21so that the wheelchair can go on and their carer.

0:14:21 > 0:14:23It must give you a few engineering challenges.

0:14:23 > 0:14:26This is the first time I've ever worked with a zip wire

0:14:26 > 0:14:28and I've learnt a lot.

0:14:28 > 0:14:32Your regular zip wire has just one cable on it, doesn't it? OK.

0:14:32 > 0:14:37Let me just show you first how a zip wire on one cable works.

0:14:37 > 0:14:40- OK.- So if you just care to take that end.

0:14:40 > 0:14:45- Imagine this is one person. If I send one fella down...- Yeah.

0:14:45 > 0:14:49- ..that's how that works. - That was intense.

0:14:49 > 0:14:51- But watch this. This is the cradle. - It's the basket?

0:14:51 > 0:14:55- Yes. So keep it nice and tight. Watch what happens.- Nightmare.

0:14:55 > 0:14:58- Not good and do you know why it's not good?- Why?

0:14:58 > 0:15:01- Look how that is tipping. - It's not even, is it?

0:15:01 > 0:15:05It's not even. So anybody in the cradle is going to fall out.

0:15:05 > 0:15:07So how have you solved that problem?

0:15:07 > 0:15:08- On this zip line...- Yeah.

0:15:09 > 0:15:13..we're using two, two cables.

0:15:13 > 0:15:15I think this is one of the first times this has been done.

0:15:15 > 0:15:17- Now watch this.- Yeah.

0:15:17 > 0:15:20So do the same again, Joe, keep it nice and tight, go a bit lower.

0:15:20 > 0:15:22- Like that?- OK.

0:15:22 > 0:15:24- Look at that? - How good is that?

0:15:24 > 0:15:27That's like the best zip line ever and everybody here can enjoy it.

0:15:27 > 0:15:31This zip has been designed with two wires instead of the usual

0:15:31 > 0:15:35one wire system to help spread the weight and balance the cradle.

0:15:35 > 0:15:37For an added bit of engineering wow,

0:15:37 > 0:15:41there's a special pneumatic brake at the end of the zip which reacts

0:15:41 > 0:15:44and adjusts to whatever weight is inside the cradle,

0:15:44 > 0:15:48allowing for smooth stopping no matter how many people are in there.

0:15:48 > 0:15:52Back on site and Dengineer Derek has worked his socks off to

0:15:52 > 0:15:55finish cutting all the logs down to size.

0:15:55 > 0:15:58Despite the great start, the reality of the huge

0:15:58 > 0:16:01scale of this build has really hit home with Sege.

0:16:01 > 0:16:05I'm really, really concerned that I really have bitten off more

0:16:05 > 0:16:06than I can chew on this one.

0:16:06 > 0:16:09I've promised these kids that they're going to get this den

0:16:09 > 0:16:12and I've got to deliver.

0:16:15 > 0:16:18It's day two of our gigantic build in Liverpool

0:16:18 > 0:16:22and after a quick site inspection from Dengineers Mia and Ruby...

0:16:22 > 0:16:24This is amazing.

0:16:24 > 0:16:27That can be for wheelchairs as well, they can get up it.

0:16:27 > 0:16:31..it's time to welcome another top designer onto site.

0:16:31 > 0:16:34- Hi, Olga.- Hi, you OK? - Yeah, you?

0:16:34 > 0:16:38What I've done is called in the other designers as well to

0:16:38 > 0:16:41give me a hand on this and I've got Olga doing the party zone.

0:16:41 > 0:16:45She understands fun, this is her all over.

0:16:45 > 0:16:49Olga's designed the perfect party zone where our Dengineers can

0:16:49 > 0:16:53customise the whole space to celebrate any occasion they want.

0:16:53 > 0:16:57Birthdays, discos, even a VIP space to spend time with their family

0:16:57 > 0:17:00and friends, they are the boss of this place.

0:17:00 > 0:17:03The walls of the Party Zone are currently being constructed

0:17:03 > 0:17:07but things aren't moving fast enough for Sege.

0:17:07 > 0:17:09We are really, really struggling at the moment.

0:17:09 > 0:17:12It's looking like I might need to get some extra help.

0:17:12 > 0:17:14Whilst Sege calls in the reinforcements,

0:17:14 > 0:17:17Olga needs the Dengineers' help away from the den with an awesome

0:17:17 > 0:17:20upcycle using some lollipop sticks.

0:17:25 > 0:17:28I've designed a section of your Party Zone where you can

0:17:28 > 0:17:32- dress up, take pictures, have loads of fun.- Wow.

0:17:32 > 0:17:35So what we're going to do, we're going to use these lollipop

0:17:35 > 0:17:39sticks and turn them into props that you can put in front of your face.

0:17:39 > 0:17:42So today, I quite fancy having a beard and a tie.

0:17:42 > 0:17:45- What do you think, does it suit me? - Yeah.

0:17:45 > 0:17:48Dengineers George and Ava pick some fun stencils...

0:17:48 > 0:17:52- I want to do a bow tie, please. - A bow tie for you.- Beard.

0:17:53 > 0:17:56..and then draw around them on some card and cut them out.

0:17:56 > 0:18:00I think the Party Zone is going to be so important to people

0:18:00 > 0:18:03because if something's just happened close to them,

0:18:03 > 0:18:08they can just go in there and have a good time and not be in a mood.

0:18:08 > 0:18:11You all deserve it so much and you're going to have

0:18:11 > 0:18:14a lovely time there with all your friends and family.

0:18:14 > 0:18:17Props cut out, it's time for our Dengineers to decorate them

0:18:17 > 0:18:20and add a splash of personal style.

0:18:20 > 0:18:24- Shall we show it? Is that looking good?- Yeah.

0:18:24 > 0:18:27Would you like a tie? There's some glasses for you.

0:18:27 > 0:18:29Here we go, smile!

0:18:33 > 0:18:36The extra Dengineers have arrived on site and are getting stuck in

0:18:36 > 0:18:40and away from the den, Ruby and Mia have a surprise for designer Sege.

0:18:40 > 0:18:43So we heard that you're a dancing fan, is that right?

0:18:43 > 0:18:46Yes, I am a dancing fan. Yeah, I love dancing.

0:18:46 > 0:18:50- Well, you're going to like this. Come in, guys.- Oh!

0:18:51 > 0:18:53Yes!

0:18:53 > 0:18:54- How are you?- Come on!

0:18:54 > 0:18:57How are you? You don't know how much I wanted to meet...

0:18:57 > 0:18:59Oh, this is my dream come true!

0:18:59 > 0:19:05CBBC legend Ore Oduba won Strictly Come Dancing in 2016

0:19:05 > 0:19:09and Karen Clifton reached the final with Mark Wright in 2014

0:19:09 > 0:19:11so these guys are perfect to teach our Sege

0:19:11 > 0:19:13some awesome jive kicks and flicks.

0:19:15 > 0:19:17So you have one, two, three, four, switch.

0:19:17 > 0:19:19One, two, three, four.

0:19:19 > 0:19:21One, two, one, two.

0:19:21 > 0:19:24- One, two, three, four.- OK.

0:19:24 > 0:19:26Come on, let's try it together.

0:19:26 > 0:19:27Five, six, seven, go...

0:19:27 > 0:19:29THEY COUNT OUT STEPS

0:19:33 > 0:19:34Yes!

0:19:35 > 0:19:38- That's not bad.- That's really good.

0:19:38 > 0:19:40I can't tell you how excited I am.

0:19:40 > 0:19:44I love dancing and if I wasn't a den builder, I'd love to be a dancer.

0:19:44 > 0:19:48- What about if our Dengineers got involved?- Brilliant idea.

0:19:48 > 0:19:49Five, six, seven and...

0:19:49 > 0:19:51THEY COUNT OUT STEPS

0:19:56 > 0:19:58That was excellent, guys.

0:20:00 > 0:20:03Sege is bossing the jive moves, but it's not me he needs to impress.

0:20:04 > 0:20:09It's Ruby, Ava, Mia and George.

0:20:10 > 0:20:14Dancing the jive, it's Karen and Sege.

0:20:14 > 0:20:16Go!

0:20:29 > 0:20:31The judges' scores are in.

0:20:31 > 0:20:33A-mazing.

0:20:33 > 0:20:35Oh, what?! Ten?

0:20:35 > 0:20:37Fabulous.

0:20:37 > 0:20:39Fantastic, thank you. Oh, that's brilliant.

0:20:39 > 0:20:42- It's a ten from Len.- Ten!

0:20:43 > 0:20:45I didn't like it, I loved it!

0:20:45 > 0:20:48THEY CHEER

0:20:48 > 0:20:50What they said.

0:20:50 > 0:20:53THEY CHEER AND LAUGH

0:20:55 > 0:20:59This is my best day ever! Dancing with Karen has been special,

0:20:59 > 0:21:02it's been better than Christmas as far as I'm concerned.

0:21:02 > 0:21:04I thought that Sege was incredible.

0:21:04 > 0:21:08Here's a guy who's ready to take to the Strictly Ballroom

0:21:08 > 0:21:10dance floor, he's on it.

0:21:10 > 0:21:12I want him to be my partner.

0:21:12 > 0:21:16Over on site, the team have been working hard all afternoon

0:21:16 > 0:21:18and it's time to pack up for the day.

0:21:18 > 0:21:21And I'm heading off-site to see what everyday life

0:21:21 > 0:21:25is like for Dengineer sisters Ruby and 15-year-old Holly.

0:21:25 > 0:21:29So this is a suction machine and when Holly coughs, we use it

0:21:29 > 0:21:32to clear her throat out, but we're not allowed to get this dirty

0:21:32 > 0:21:36because it might infect her throat and she'll have to go to hospital.

0:21:36 > 0:21:39That's just for a cough, something that's so small for us

0:21:39 > 0:21:42is such a big and dangerous part of her life.

0:21:44 > 0:21:49This is a sats monitor and it checks Holly's heart and her oxygen level.

0:21:49 > 0:21:52If it beeps, it means she needs to go on more oxygen.

0:21:52 > 0:21:55- And you look out for that?- Yeah.

0:21:55 > 0:22:00So this is the tube that has oxygen in so if someone steps on it,

0:22:00 > 0:22:05it like cuts off her oxygen so we really need to be careful of this.

0:22:05 > 0:22:07Don't put it anywhere near me,

0:22:07 > 0:22:11take the oxygen away and I won't break it, I promise.

0:22:11 > 0:22:15Holly's condition means she can't walk, talk or eat.

0:22:15 > 0:22:18But that doesn't stop her communicating with her friends

0:22:18 > 0:22:19and family.

0:22:19 > 0:22:22I normally stroke her hand, talk to her

0:22:22 > 0:22:25and she communicates with her eyes.

0:22:25 > 0:22:31Holly's feeling OK now, she's kind of relaxed, she might go to sleep.

0:22:31 > 0:22:33- You must be the closest sisters in the world then.- Yeah.

0:22:33 > 0:22:36You can communicate without even talking.

0:22:36 > 0:22:38Ruby does so much to help care for her sister

0:22:38 > 0:22:42and I want to find out more about this from Mum.

0:22:42 > 0:22:44I don't think I've ever met anybody like Ruby.

0:22:44 > 0:22:47The carer aspect of their relationship,

0:22:47 > 0:22:49is that something that has just developed naturally?

0:22:49 > 0:22:51That's just her as a person.

0:22:51 > 0:22:54She asks to do these highly

0:22:54 > 0:22:55medically skilled

0:22:55 > 0:22:57interventions all the time.

0:22:57 > 0:23:01The beauty of it is that she doesn't see it as a responsibility,

0:23:01 > 0:23:06she sees it as just being with her sister. They are best friends.

0:23:06 > 0:23:10The hospice is such a big part of your life, do you think having

0:23:10 > 0:23:13the den is going to really improve the quality of life that

0:23:13 > 0:23:15Holly's got and you have as a family?

0:23:15 > 0:23:17I am always thinking that one day

0:23:17 > 0:23:20I'm not going to have Holly with me...

0:23:20 > 0:23:22But I'm always going to have the den there

0:23:22 > 0:23:26and I'm going to have these special memories that will mean more to me

0:23:26 > 0:23:29than anything I can't really put into words how amazing

0:23:29 > 0:23:31this is going to be for us as a family.

0:23:31 > 0:23:33- Give me a cuddle.- I know.

0:23:38 > 0:23:41Our Dengineers have been working really hard

0:23:41 > 0:23:44so I'm giving them a break from the build to come to this

0:23:44 > 0:23:47forest in North Wales which is home to some awesome adventures.

0:23:50 > 0:23:54And first up today is the Alpine Coaster, a high-speed

0:23:54 > 0:23:57toboggan that runs on rails through a super windy, woodland trail.

0:23:58 > 0:24:01- Is it scary?- A little bit.

0:24:01 > 0:24:05And for one Dengineer, going on this ride is a big deal.

0:24:05 > 0:24:10- Liam, you're up first, you up for it?- Yeah.

0:24:11 > 0:24:15Liam's condition means he spends most of his time in a wheelchair

0:24:15 > 0:24:20and as a result he's never been on a rollercoaster before.

0:24:20 > 0:24:22Good luck, guys, see you in a bit!

0:24:23 > 0:24:25What will it mean to Liam to be doing this?

0:24:25 > 0:24:27Aw, he loves it, he loves speed,

0:24:27 > 0:24:30he doesn't get an opportunity to do anything like this.

0:24:30 > 0:24:32So I'm made up we got him in.

0:24:32 > 0:24:35Did you think you'd ever get to go on something like this?

0:24:35 > 0:24:37- No.- It's so exciting.- So he's just like the others, isn't he?

0:24:37 > 0:24:40Liam and healthcare support worker Alex are at the top

0:24:40 > 0:24:44- of the 710-metre course. - Here we go.

0:24:45 > 0:24:49Time for Liam's first ever high-octane coaster experience.

0:24:54 > 0:24:57- Come on Liam!- He's going so fast.

0:24:57 > 0:24:59LIAM WHOOPS

0:25:03 > 0:25:06Did you see him come down that corner?

0:25:10 > 0:25:14THEY CHEER

0:25:23 > 0:25:27I've never experienced anything like that cos it was really fast.

0:25:27 > 0:25:32Liam's set the super speedy pace and next up are his fellow Dengineers.

0:25:32 > 0:25:34Go, go, go faster.

0:25:37 > 0:25:39I've got a fly up me nose!

0:25:41 > 0:25:44Finally, it's my turn to take on the Alpine Coaster.

0:25:44 > 0:25:47This is so much fun!

0:25:47 > 0:25:48Oh, my goodness me.

0:25:50 > 0:25:54Yeah, I did it.

0:25:55 > 0:25:56Tree coaster negotiated,

0:25:56 > 0:26:00I join the other group of Dengineers on the towering tree-top nets,

0:26:00 > 0:26:03which stand a whopping 18 metres above the forest floor.

0:26:05 > 0:26:08Who can jump the highest?

0:26:08 > 0:26:10Higher, higher.

0:26:10 > 0:26:13Wow, trick!

0:26:13 > 0:26:14Do it again.

0:26:14 > 0:26:16Go! Yeah!

0:26:16 > 0:26:19All this jumping has tired me out a treat so I grab

0:26:19 > 0:26:22a breather with our Dengineers' mums and dads to talk

0:26:22 > 0:26:25about the huge role this amazing den will play in their lives.

0:26:25 > 0:26:28It's not often you get out to do stuff like this, is it?

0:26:28 > 0:26:33No, very rare, because obviously Holly's care is 24 hours a day.

0:26:33 > 0:26:36The hospice is caring for Holly for us today to allow us

0:26:36 > 0:26:38to spend that time with Ruby, which is invaluable.

0:26:38 > 0:26:40I think it's totally understandable

0:26:40 > 0:26:43that Holly isn't here today but it's such a shame

0:26:43 > 0:26:45and what I'm really looking forward to with the den

0:26:45 > 0:26:48is that it's going to be a place that she can access

0:26:48 > 0:26:50as well as all the other kids.

0:26:50 > 0:26:54When you see these children and the difficulties they have

0:26:54 > 0:26:58every day to deal with, to then go into a place and just be a child,

0:26:58 > 0:27:02be with their siblings, to have that environment that is specially

0:27:02 > 0:27:06built just for them, there's going to be nowhere else like it

0:27:06 > 0:27:09and we're going to have that den in our hospice, how lucky are we?

0:27:09 > 0:27:11You know, so exciting.

0:27:11 > 0:27:15There's only one way to finish a brilliant day like today

0:27:15 > 0:27:19and that's with a game of Dengineers versus dads dodge ball.

0:27:19 > 0:27:20Go! Get them.

0:27:22 > 0:27:2510 points if you get the dads.

0:27:25 > 0:27:27Take them down!

0:27:29 > 0:27:33Hang on, don't hurt the Dengineers, we've got a den to build.

0:27:40 > 0:27:44Join us on the next part of our biggest build ever as we work

0:27:44 > 0:27:47as hard as we can to get this den done in time.

0:27:49 > 0:27:52It won't be easy and there'll be bumps along the way.

0:27:52 > 0:27:54Whoa, whoa!

0:27:54 > 0:27:57But with some top teamwork from everyone on site

0:27:57 > 0:28:00and a bit of help from our CBBC chums...

0:28:00 > 0:28:02You're doing a rubbish job, paint better.

0:28:02 > 0:28:05..we'll do everything possible to give this hospice

0:28:05 > 0:28:07the dream den they deserve.

0:28:07 > 0:28:10CHEERING
