0:00:54 > 0:00:59Last time on The Dengineers, we surprised a hospice in Liverpool

0:00:59 > 0:01:02with the news that they were getting the den of their dreams.

0:01:02 > 0:01:03Hello, hello, everybody.

0:01:03 > 0:01:06Hi! We're from CBBC's The Dengineers.

0:01:06 > 0:01:08CHEERING

0:01:09 > 0:01:13Taking on this colossal challenge, Sege set out to build

0:01:13 > 0:01:16the biggest den ever attempted by the Dengineers.

0:01:16 > 0:01:20Whoa! That's massive!

0:01:20 > 0:01:22The build started well...

0:01:24 > 0:01:28..but with so much to do, have Sege and the Dengineers gone too big?

0:01:28 > 0:01:31I've promised these kids that they're going to get this den,

0:01:31 > 0:01:33and I've got to deliver.

0:01:35 > 0:01:37In Liverpool, it's the morning of Build Day Three,

0:01:37 > 0:01:40and Sege has called in fellow designers Tony and Satwinder

0:01:40 > 0:01:44to help with the next section of the den, the Bravo Bridge.

0:01:46 > 0:01:49- Hi, guys. How are you?- Very well. - Good to see you. Good to see you.

0:01:49 > 0:01:53Tony and Satwinder are absolutely perfect for this bridge.

0:01:53 > 0:01:56They're brilliant architects, so this is their thing.

0:01:57 > 0:01:59Tony and Satwinder have designed a curved,

0:01:59 > 0:02:01semi see-through structure for Bravo Bridge,

0:02:01 > 0:02:05so the Dengineers can view the entire den when crossing over it.

0:02:05 > 0:02:07They've also used vibrant wires

0:02:07 > 0:02:09to add a splash of colour to the experience.

0:02:10 > 0:02:13Sege and his team have constructed the bridge,

0:02:13 > 0:02:15but Tony and Satwinder need the Dengineers' help

0:02:15 > 0:02:18to add a colourful wow factor.

0:02:18 > 0:02:20What we're doing is we're threading these coloured cords

0:02:20 > 0:02:24up and down on the bridge to give it kind of a rainbow effect.

0:02:24 > 0:02:28This is a tricky job, and the more hands on deck, the better.

0:02:28 > 0:02:31It's going to take more than a muddy hill to stop Liam helping us out.

0:02:31 > 0:02:34CHEERING

0:02:34 > 0:02:35Good lad!

0:02:35 > 0:02:39- Liam. - Liam, that's it. Nice one, mate.

0:02:39 > 0:02:41We feel privileged to be involved in a project

0:02:41 > 0:02:44which actually means quite a lot.

0:02:44 > 0:02:46It's really special, and I think the fact that

0:02:46 > 0:02:50it's accessible for everyone, no matter what their abilities

0:02:50 > 0:02:52or disabilities, means that everyone can have fun there.

0:02:52 > 0:02:56When complete, the bridge will have seven different colours of thread

0:02:56 > 0:03:00through the sides, giving off a magical feel when walking over it.

0:03:02 > 0:03:04Back on site, Nell and her fellow Dengineers

0:03:04 > 0:03:06are helping Sege paint the Party Zone.

0:03:08 > 0:03:10No need to be so gentle. You can have long brushstrokes.

0:03:10 > 0:03:13Nell started coming to the hospice with her brother Sam,

0:03:13 > 0:03:16who sadly died when he was two years old.

0:03:16 > 0:03:19He was amazing. Like, he was so funny.

0:03:19 > 0:03:21- Well, you clearly miss him, don't you?- Yeah.

0:03:21 > 0:03:23Well, I can tell you something, Nell,

0:03:23 > 0:03:26- we're going to paint away for Sam, then, as well, aren't we?- Yeah.

0:03:26 > 0:03:30As Day Three comes to an end, everyone has put in a huge effort

0:03:30 > 0:03:32and things are looking up for designer Sege.

0:03:32 > 0:03:35What a day! So much progress has been made.

0:03:35 > 0:03:38All the Dengineers have been brilliant.

0:03:38 > 0:03:41We're still a bit behind, but do you know what? We're catching up.

0:03:44 > 0:03:48It's Day Four of the build and there's just two days left

0:03:48 > 0:03:50until the reveal of our biggest den ever.

0:03:53 > 0:03:56Today's focus is the Can-Do Cabin.

0:03:56 > 0:03:59A place where hospice users and their friends and family

0:03:59 > 0:04:01can all hang out together.

0:04:01 > 0:04:03- What do you think? - Wow! A lot is happening.

0:04:03 > 0:04:08And helping Sege with this section of the den is fellow designer Maral.

0:04:08 > 0:04:12I am so excited to be part of such a huge build.

0:04:12 > 0:04:16It is for such a good cause, and the children are going to love it.

0:04:16 > 0:04:18It's going to be amazing.

0:04:18 > 0:04:21This awesome Can-Do Cabin has been designed

0:04:21 > 0:04:23to look like a traditional fairground,

0:04:23 > 0:04:25complete with Waltzer-style seating

0:04:25 > 0:04:28and a special arts-and-crafts cart.

0:04:29 > 0:04:31Before Maral can get to work,

0:04:31 > 0:04:33the team need to find an alternative way

0:04:33 > 0:04:36to get the awesome arts-and-crafts table into the room.

0:04:36 > 0:04:40We're going to try and lift this cart over the walls

0:04:40 > 0:04:44and into the den, because it's too big to go through the door.

0:04:44 > 0:04:47This is a fragile piece of the den,

0:04:47 > 0:04:50so the team carefully place some straps around the structure,

0:04:50 > 0:04:53and then it's time to get this cart airborne.

0:05:00 > 0:05:02Higher! Higher!

0:05:02 > 0:05:04Yeah!

0:05:06 > 0:05:08The cart is over the wall,

0:05:08 > 0:05:11so now we need to get it down, inside the room safely.

0:05:11 > 0:05:14I hope it doesn't hit anyone on the head.

0:05:14 > 0:05:17- That's it.- Yay!

0:05:20 > 0:05:22Whoa! Stop! Stop!

0:05:24 > 0:05:25Success!

0:05:25 > 0:05:28Now that the Can-Do Cabin Cart has made it safety into the den,

0:05:28 > 0:05:32Maral has a cool idea for some upcycle seating to go with it.

0:05:37 > 0:05:41We are going to turn this very ordinary household planter

0:05:41 > 0:05:44that you plant your herbs and stuff like that in your home,

0:05:44 > 0:05:47into a very cool seat for the den.

0:05:47 > 0:05:49Maral has pre-painted the garden planter,

0:05:49 > 0:05:52but she needs Ruby, Nell and Liam's help

0:05:52 > 0:05:54to apply some masking tape to areas of the seat

0:05:54 > 0:05:56that she wants to keep red.

0:05:56 > 0:05:58You're doing a good job.

0:05:58 > 0:06:00You got it? Perfect!

0:06:00 > 0:06:02Masking complete, it's time to add

0:06:02 > 0:06:04some paint to the rest of the planter

0:06:04 > 0:06:06to give it a traditional fairground look.

0:06:06 > 0:06:10We are going to dab our sponge into the paint

0:06:10 > 0:06:14and cover the areas that you see are red.

0:06:14 > 0:06:16Dab it quite gently.

0:06:16 > 0:06:18But this is not dabbing.

0:06:18 > 0:06:20What do you mean? That is dabbing.

0:06:20 > 0:06:21No, it isn't. This is dabbing.

0:06:24 > 0:06:25Mean dab, Maral.

0:06:27 > 0:06:29The next time Ruby, Nell and Liam

0:06:29 > 0:06:31will see their upcycled garden-planter chair,

0:06:31 > 0:06:33it'll have a cushion attached to the top

0:06:33 > 0:06:36and will be on display in their Can-Do Cabin.

0:06:36 > 0:06:38I'm really looking forward to seeing it in the den

0:06:38 > 0:06:42because it's something that I made, and it'll stay there forever.

0:06:43 > 0:06:47Back on site, the team are cracking on with our amazing Happy Path.

0:06:48 > 0:06:50Sege has designed a pathway for the den

0:06:50 > 0:06:52which is made out of concrete slabs

0:06:52 > 0:06:55decorated with hundreds of happy memories

0:06:55 > 0:06:58sent in by you lovely CBBC viewers.

0:06:58 > 0:07:01And our Happy Path journey started months ago,

0:07:01 > 0:07:03when Loz and I went onto Blue Peter

0:07:03 > 0:07:07to launch an amazing Dengineers' send-in.

0:07:07 > 0:07:09You need to fill out your happy memory.

0:07:09 > 0:07:11You can draw it, write it, you can be quite creative.

0:07:11 > 0:07:13Yeah, yeah. Loads of things.

0:07:14 > 0:07:17We received some awesome designs from you guys at home,

0:07:17 > 0:07:21along with football legend Steven Gerrard.

0:07:22 > 0:07:25Designs in, the next stage of our Happy Path journey

0:07:25 > 0:07:28was to visit the place where your drawings are transformed

0:07:28 > 0:07:30from paper to pathway slabs.

0:07:30 > 0:07:34All right, Rob, how do we get our pictures onto the stones?

0:07:34 > 0:07:37- What's the plan?- We're going to use this cool sandblasting cabinet

0:07:37 > 0:07:39to carve the designs into the stone.

0:07:39 > 0:07:41We've got to do 200 of these designs,

0:07:41 > 0:07:43so we need all the help we can get.

0:07:43 > 0:07:45200? Girls, are you ready to help?

0:07:45 > 0:07:47- GIRLS: Yeah!- We're ready to help.

0:07:47 > 0:07:49The first step from paper to Happy Path slab

0:07:49 > 0:07:53involves using ultraviolet light to make a stencil

0:07:53 > 0:07:54of the original design.

0:07:54 > 0:07:57The material must be strong enough to withstand

0:07:57 > 0:07:59the mighty sandblasting machine.

0:07:59 > 0:08:03So this big light will shine down through the stencil, onto the blue

0:08:03 > 0:08:05and create the design for us.

0:08:05 > 0:08:08So we put it underneath the lamp. Here we go.

0:08:08 > 0:08:13- So this is now exposing that blue material...- Yeah?- ..to bright light.

0:08:13 > 0:08:15- Basically, like, sunlight, this. - Yeah?

0:08:15 > 0:08:18Exposing part of it, but not all of it.

0:08:18 > 0:08:21And it will switch off in a second. There we go.

0:08:21 > 0:08:23- There's Joe's design. Can you see it?- No.

0:08:23 > 0:08:25It's magic, isn't it?

0:08:25 > 0:08:27The design is there, it's imprinted in that material.

0:08:27 > 0:08:30And in a few minutes, you guys are going to make this appear.

0:08:30 > 0:08:33- That's amazing.- Yeah.

0:08:33 > 0:08:36For this magnificent magic trick, all Rob needs

0:08:36 > 0:08:38is a water tap and a pressure washer.

0:08:38 > 0:08:42What we do is we spray the stencil with the water,

0:08:42 > 0:08:44and that then dissolves the design

0:08:44 > 0:08:46and makes it magically appear.

0:08:46 > 0:08:48Wow! It's a magical sink!

0:08:48 > 0:08:50So we're just moving backwards and forwards.

0:08:50 > 0:08:52Oh, look, I can see a tree.

0:08:52 > 0:08:57Yeah. I see coconuts.

0:08:57 > 0:08:58Look at that!

0:08:58 > 0:09:01- Wow!- Wow!

0:09:01 > 0:09:04With Mia and Nell fully up to speed,

0:09:04 > 0:09:06they crack on making more stencils,

0:09:06 > 0:09:10whilst Holly and Ruby join in on the next step of the process.

0:09:12 > 0:09:14So we've got the stencil here and we're now going to push it into

0:09:14 > 0:09:18the big, cool cabinet, where the sandblaster will fire grit

0:09:18 > 0:09:21through a nozzle and it will carve out the design for us.

0:09:22 > 0:09:25Holly and Ruby help to make sure both the concrete slab

0:09:25 > 0:09:28and the sandblasting nozzle are in the correct position,

0:09:28 > 0:09:31and then it's sandblasting time!

0:09:36 > 0:09:39It looks brilliant! It really does.

0:09:39 > 0:09:42It's doing the clouds on your drawing.

0:09:42 > 0:09:43It's quiet, as well.

0:09:45 > 0:09:47- Sandblasting complete... - There we go.

0:09:47 > 0:09:50..all that's left is to paint the engraved design

0:09:50 > 0:09:52and peel off the stencil.

0:09:52 > 0:09:54Yes! Look at that!

0:09:54 > 0:09:59OK, so I'm going to leave you to do the other 199.

0:09:59 > 0:10:01We've just got to go somewhere, OK? Bye.

0:10:01 > 0:10:02What? Er...

0:10:04 > 0:10:08Back at the build, the final happy path slabs are being laid.

0:10:08 > 0:10:10And there's a special guest here to help out -

0:10:10 > 0:10:13Lindsey from Blue Peter.

0:10:13 > 0:10:15Right, let's get to work. Come on, team.

0:10:15 > 0:10:17Are you meant to be leaning on that one, Joe?

0:10:17 > 0:10:18What? Oh, no.

0:10:18 > 0:10:21Ava, is it time for the slab, do you think?

0:10:21 > 0:10:22You need to get it spreaded more.

0:10:22 > 0:10:25- Let me try.- I think Lindsey will be able to do it.

0:10:25 > 0:10:29- Do you reckon?- I believe in you. - Thank you for having faith in me.

0:10:29 > 0:10:32What you doing? What you doing?

0:10:32 > 0:10:33You know what I mean, Blue Peter come

0:10:33 > 0:10:35and they're just lobbing it about.

0:10:35 > 0:10:38I'm so sorry, does that matter?

0:10:38 > 0:10:40Oh, look, it comes straight off.

0:10:40 > 0:10:42- George, you ready for a slab, mate? - Yeah!

0:10:46 > 0:10:50- Joe, Joe!- No, no. - Not on the string!

0:10:50 > 0:10:52With Lindsey and the Dengineers' help,

0:10:52 > 0:10:54the happy path is finished in no time.

0:10:54 > 0:10:57I've absolutely loved being here and being a Dengineer for the day.

0:10:57 > 0:11:01I think anyone who's sent in a memory should be super proud

0:11:01 > 0:11:03because, looking around, all you want to do is smile,

0:11:03 > 0:11:05there's happiness everywhere.

0:11:08 > 0:11:10The Dengineers have worked really hard today

0:11:10 > 0:11:12and this is the last time they'll see the den

0:11:12 > 0:11:15before the big reveal in two days' time.

0:11:16 > 0:11:19I trust Sege because he is a good designer

0:11:19 > 0:11:21and I think he'll make the den even better.

0:11:21 > 0:11:24With loads still to do, the rest of the team

0:11:24 > 0:11:27work late into the evening.

0:11:29 > 0:11:33And I'm heading off-site to see what life is like for Dengineer Liam

0:11:33 > 0:11:35when he's not helping to build dens.

0:11:35 > 0:11:39If you wanted to get from there to here, what do we have to do?

0:11:39 > 0:11:41Have to use the hoist up there.

0:11:41 > 0:11:43It's got a remote control and you bring it over

0:11:43 > 0:11:47- and it lifts me up.- It's like a theme park in here, innit?

0:11:47 > 0:11:48- Yeah.- It sounds complicated,

0:11:48 > 0:11:51I shouldn't be in charge of something like that.

0:11:51 > 0:11:53- No. - Is your mum about? Mum!

0:11:53 > 0:11:57You need to grab that while I grab the hoist.

0:11:57 > 0:12:00This piece of equipment is really important for Liam

0:12:00 > 0:12:02and he uses it every night when he goes to bed.

0:12:02 > 0:12:04Once the sling is on...

0:12:04 > 0:12:07- Yeah?- You're going to press the blue button.

0:12:07 > 0:12:10- So I am colour-blind, so...- Right.

0:12:10 > 0:12:12- So the one on the left?- Gotcha.

0:12:12 > 0:12:15Liam, are you happy for me to give this a go?

0:12:17 > 0:12:18Yeah.

0:12:18 > 0:12:20Liam's not sure.

0:12:20 > 0:12:21Everything securely attached,

0:12:21 > 0:12:24it's time for the hoist to do its work,

0:12:24 > 0:12:28lifting Liam out of his wheelchair and over to the bed.

0:12:28 > 0:12:29Successful.

0:12:29 > 0:12:32I'm a little bit in awe of you, mate.

0:12:32 > 0:12:37That's something everybody does every day and takes for granted.

0:12:37 > 0:12:39Well done, mate.

0:12:39 > 0:12:42Whilst Liam gets stuck into one of his racing games,

0:12:42 > 0:12:44I catch up with his mum to find out

0:12:44 > 0:12:46how important this den really will be for him.

0:12:46 > 0:12:48Normally when we go the hospice,

0:12:48 > 0:12:50he'll be sitting inside playing the computer games,

0:12:50 > 0:12:53but now, he's going to join in, cos that's what he wants to do,

0:12:53 > 0:12:55and go outside and play with them.

0:12:55 > 0:12:57And also it's a lasting legacy. It's going to be there forever,

0:12:57 > 0:13:00and he can say, "I'm proud cos I was part of that."

0:13:04 > 0:13:07It's the final day before the reveal of our biggest den ever.

0:13:11 > 0:13:12And with so much work still to do,

0:13:12 > 0:13:15Sege has called in some CBBC reinforcements.

0:13:28 > 0:13:30Hang on a second, where's Hacker?

0:13:32 > 0:13:35That meat paste smoothie has gone right through me!

0:13:35 > 0:13:38There's so much for you guys to do over there,

0:13:38 > 0:13:40I'm just going to send you over to all different parts of the den

0:13:40 > 0:13:42and let you crack on. Ben Shires.

0:13:42 > 0:13:46- Greetings!- You're off to the waterwheel please. Crack on.

0:13:46 > 0:13:47Ahh, water-job.

0:13:47 > 0:13:49OK, and where's Ayshah from Newsround?

0:13:49 > 0:13:50I'm here, I'm here!

0:13:50 > 0:13:52Zip line duty for you.

0:13:55 > 0:13:57Naomi from Marrying Mum & Dad?

0:13:57 > 0:14:00- Here, sir.- Great, I need your help on a surprise we've got going on,

0:14:00 > 0:14:03so if you head that way I'll come and see you

0:14:03 > 0:14:05- and let you know what it is. - Gotcha.

0:14:05 > 0:14:07- So you guys must be CBBC HQ? - Correct.- Yes, indeed.

0:14:07 > 0:14:10Your services are requested at Paradise Hut.

0:14:10 > 0:14:12Ooh, that sounds good, doesn't it?

0:14:12 > 0:14:14Hang on, take that dog with you.

0:14:14 > 0:14:15It was too good to be true.

0:14:15 > 0:14:17- SHE WHISTLES - Hacker!

0:14:17 > 0:14:19We are so excited to be here today, it's brilliant.

0:14:19 > 0:14:22Yeah, this is such a fantastic project and I tell you what,

0:14:22 > 0:14:25we are not leaving until THIS DEN IS DONE!!

0:14:25 > 0:14:28No, we do that at the end.

0:14:28 > 0:14:30It's just a bit weird if you do that on your own.

0:14:30 > 0:14:32Where'd he even come from?

0:14:32 > 0:14:35The first job Sege needs help with is a spot of painting

0:14:35 > 0:14:39in the Paradise Hut, and CBBC HQ are raring to go.

0:14:40 > 0:14:43So, Joe, how many children are actually going to use this den?

0:14:43 > 0:14:47Well, over the years, it will be hundreds.

0:14:47 > 0:14:49Not just the kids, for the families as well to come

0:14:49 > 0:14:51and have a bit of quality time together.

0:14:51 > 0:14:52That sounds amazing that, Joe.

0:14:52 > 0:14:55Not one to be left out, Hacker is on hand

0:14:55 > 0:14:57for a bit of verbal encouragement.

0:14:57 > 0:14:59You're doing a rubbish job, paint better.

0:14:59 > 0:15:01- Are you serious?- You're not doing anything,

0:15:01 > 0:15:03so you can't say anything can you?

0:15:03 > 0:15:05Well, I'm dry clean only, Kathleen.

0:15:05 > 0:15:07Whilst CBBC HQ crack on in the Paradise Hut,

0:15:07 > 0:15:10Mr Ben Shires is having a closer look

0:15:10 > 0:15:12at the den's wonderful waterwheel.

0:15:12 > 0:15:15And he wants to pick Sege's brains about the effect

0:15:15 > 0:15:17these waterworks have on the environment.

0:15:17 > 0:15:19Won't you need to leave the tap running 24/7

0:15:19 > 0:15:21so it keeps on turning around?

0:15:21 > 0:15:23Ah, no, well you see, Ben, we've come up with

0:15:23 > 0:15:25a really cool engineering solution.

0:15:25 > 0:15:27So if I take this and drop it in,

0:15:27 > 0:15:32so you need to imagine that this is our waterwheel in our water pit.

0:15:32 > 0:15:33- I'm there.- OK.

0:15:33 > 0:15:36The pit has to have water in it to start with.

0:15:36 > 0:15:38Inside is a little electrical pump, OK?

0:15:38 > 0:15:41The pump sucks the water up through a hose,

0:15:41 > 0:15:42up to this part of the waterwheel.

0:15:42 > 0:15:45So if I just demonstrate to you what happens then.

0:15:45 > 0:15:47The water starts to fill these buckets up, OK?

0:15:47 > 0:15:50- Can you see the buckets? - Oh, yeah, it's getting full.

0:15:50 > 0:15:52And as they fill up, the waterwheel starts to move.

0:15:52 > 0:15:55Oh, Sege! It's science, Sege. I love it.

0:15:55 > 0:15:57And as it drops down, what actually happens is

0:15:57 > 0:16:00all the water from the buckets drops back into the pit

0:16:00 > 0:16:02and then the pump does the same job all over again,

0:16:02 > 0:16:05sucks the water in, up through the hose and back round,

0:16:05 > 0:16:07so actually we're not wasting any water,

0:16:07 > 0:16:10we're just constantly using the same water.

0:16:10 > 0:16:12I mean, how cool of an engineering idea is that?

0:16:12 > 0:16:14That is incredible.

0:16:14 > 0:16:17This waterwheel has been engineered to sit in a pit

0:16:17 > 0:16:21which has a clever pump to send the water to the top of the wheel

0:16:21 > 0:16:23for it to fall back down via the buckets.

0:16:23 > 0:16:26The process repeats over and over again,

0:16:26 > 0:16:28constantly recycling the water in the pit.

0:16:30 > 0:16:33Back on site, our other CBBC chums are getting stuck in too.

0:16:33 > 0:16:37Ayshah is helping Sege with some finishing touches to the zip wire.

0:16:37 > 0:16:39Oh, I'm a pro, I've got it!

0:16:41 > 0:16:45And Naomi is getting stuck in with the surprise communication pad

0:16:45 > 0:16:48which will be home to some top tech.

0:16:48 > 0:16:52It's a tile with the name of an emotion on there, so happy, sad.

0:16:52 > 0:16:55And when the children come along, no matter how they're feeling,

0:16:55 > 0:16:57they can wave their hand and it lights up

0:16:57 > 0:16:58and shouts out "happy," "sad."

0:16:58 > 0:17:00So even if a child can't speak,

0:17:00 > 0:17:03- they can tell everyone how they're feeling?- Exactly that.

0:17:03 > 0:17:06Day five is nearly done, and although the team have

0:17:06 > 0:17:09pulled out all the stops to get the den finished,

0:17:09 > 0:17:12the amazing sensory garden is still to be completed.

0:17:14 > 0:17:17So Sege needs all the CBBC crew to muck in and finish laying the turf.

0:17:18 > 0:17:22- There we go.- That's it.

0:17:22 > 0:17:24- Oh!- You've torn the turf!

0:17:24 > 0:17:27How many idiots does it take to lay some turf?

0:17:27 > 0:17:28That many.

0:17:28 > 0:17:31Yes, yes, YES!

0:17:35 > 0:17:38After a monumental effort from everyone on site,

0:17:38 > 0:17:40our biggest den ever is complete!

0:17:46 > 0:17:48This den is superb!

0:17:48 > 0:17:51I mean, there's so many rooms to go into, they're all accessible.

0:17:51 > 0:17:53It's just going to be great that

0:17:53 > 0:17:55all the families can share time together.

0:17:55 > 0:17:58We've really enjoyed it and the den is absolutely fantastic.

0:17:58 > 0:18:00They're going to love it!

0:18:08 > 0:18:11This section of the new hospice started as a blank canvas.

0:18:13 > 0:18:16But after five days of incredible hard work,

0:18:16 > 0:18:19Sege and his humongous team of dedicated Dengineers

0:18:19 > 0:18:23have transformed it into a treehouse-inspired village of dens

0:18:23 > 0:18:27where the whole hospice can make some amazing memories.

0:18:28 > 0:18:31The stage is set to reveal the biggest den

0:18:31 > 0:18:34the Dengineers have ever attempted

0:18:34 > 0:18:37and over 150 guests have turned up, eager to see it.

0:18:41 > 0:18:43I'm really looking forward to seeing the den

0:18:43 > 0:18:47because it's going to really help the children that are coming today.

0:18:47 > 0:18:50It's going to have an effect on lots of people's lives

0:18:50 > 0:18:52and it's going to be really important.

0:18:52 > 0:18:55These children deserve this den so much,

0:18:55 > 0:18:58time is so precious, so allowing them to have a space

0:18:58 > 0:19:00where they can create amazing memories.

0:19:00 > 0:19:03It's just going to mean so much to everybody.

0:19:03 > 0:19:06ALL: 3, 2, 1...

0:19:06 > 0:19:09CHEERING

0:19:13 > 0:19:15It's not a den, it's a village!

0:19:17 > 0:19:20Our hospice Dengineers dreamt of a treehouse-themed den

0:19:20 > 0:19:23where they could play, relax and make amazing memories

0:19:23 > 0:19:27with their friends and family, and Sege and his team have delivered

0:19:27 > 0:19:29the biggest den we've ever built.

0:19:29 > 0:19:31What do you guys think?

0:19:31 > 0:19:33That is amazing!

0:19:36 > 0:19:39I couldn't have expected anything more.

0:19:39 > 0:19:42It's massive and it's so colourful and bright.

0:19:42 > 0:19:44I couldn't pick a better den.

0:19:46 > 0:19:50This mammoth site contains not one but four individual dens.

0:19:50 > 0:19:54It also has an awesome bridge, a magical tunnel,

0:19:54 > 0:19:56a fantastic happy path

0:19:56 > 0:19:59and an amazing sensory garden.

0:19:59 > 0:20:01And on top of that, it boasts

0:20:01 > 0:20:03a wonderful wheelchair accessible zip wire.

0:20:04 > 0:20:08It's like a dream come true, what you've created for us.

0:20:08 > 0:20:11The hospice is going to be the best hospice in the world now.

0:20:13 > 0:20:16First up for our Dengineers is to see Sege's Paradise Hut,

0:20:16 > 0:20:19a place where everyone at the hospice can chill

0:20:19 > 0:20:20and feel like they're on holiday.

0:20:20 > 0:20:22Whoa!

0:20:22 > 0:20:24Welcome, welcome!

0:20:24 > 0:20:26As well as an amazing tropical look,

0:20:26 > 0:20:29this chilled space has a hidden feature

0:20:29 > 0:20:31essential for a holiday hangout.

0:20:31 > 0:20:33What you do is you open this

0:20:33 > 0:20:37and you can even look out to the beach.

0:20:37 > 0:20:39How about that?

0:20:39 > 0:20:41That's amazing.

0:20:41 > 0:20:44My favourite part of the den is the Paradise Hut

0:20:44 > 0:20:46because it's really relaxed.

0:20:46 > 0:20:48Welcome to the Paradise Hut, you guys!

0:20:51 > 0:20:53It's amazing. I'm absolutely overwhelmed, to be honest.

0:20:53 > 0:20:56Just cos home life can be stressful for all our little ones.

0:20:58 > 0:21:01- No stress in here.- No, none at all.

0:21:01 > 0:21:03When you've got a child that's sick,

0:21:03 > 0:21:06it impacts on the whole family,

0:21:06 > 0:21:10but to come and do something fun makes a massive difference

0:21:10 > 0:21:12to all the children and the families.

0:21:12 > 0:21:16Next up for the Dengineers, it's the fantastic fairground-inspired

0:21:16 > 0:21:19Can Do Cabin which Maral helped to design.

0:21:22 > 0:21:25Come in, come up here.

0:21:25 > 0:21:28I painted the chairs, me and Holly did.

0:21:28 > 0:21:30I'm out of words.

0:21:30 > 0:21:33In here, there is loads of arts and crafts equipment

0:21:33 > 0:21:37meaning the hospice children can do anything they like.

0:21:37 > 0:21:40And when they want to chill out, there's some waltzer style chairs

0:21:40 > 0:21:43and their upcycled fairground seats.

0:21:43 > 0:21:44- Don't they look good?- Yeah.

0:21:44 > 0:21:48It's just incredible. It's magical, isn't it?

0:21:48 > 0:21:51It's more than we could ever have imagined.

0:21:51 > 0:21:54For every child, for every age, there's something for everybody,

0:21:54 > 0:21:56it is just fabulous.

0:21:56 > 0:21:57The fair's quite noisy for Holly

0:21:57 > 0:22:00and she can't really cope with everything that's going on.

0:22:00 > 0:22:03So now Holly can go to the fair, which is great.

0:22:03 > 0:22:05Thank you.

0:22:05 > 0:22:06It was my pleasure.

0:22:06 > 0:22:09Seeing their happy faces today has just meant the world.

0:22:09 > 0:22:12The fact that we could have contributed a tiny bit

0:22:12 > 0:22:15to their life experience has just meant a lot to me personally.

0:22:17 > 0:22:21It's Olga's party zone next, which has a stylish retro look

0:22:21 > 0:22:24and can be customised to any type of party the Dengineers desire.

0:22:24 > 0:22:27- Whoa.- What do you think?!

0:22:27 > 0:22:31- It's amazing.- This is awesome.

0:22:31 > 0:22:33It's going to have lots of memories in.

0:22:33 > 0:22:36Or, like, the mum and dads can come in here and have, like, a night out.

0:22:36 > 0:22:38What do you think? Mum and dads' night out?

0:22:38 > 0:22:41My favourite bit is the disco room.

0:22:41 > 0:22:44It's bright, it's cheery, the kids are just going to have

0:22:44 > 0:22:46a ball in there, as will some of the adults.

0:22:46 > 0:22:48Hit the music!

0:23:01 > 0:23:04I think this place is going to mean so much to the kids

0:23:04 > 0:23:06and to the parents, it's going to change their lives.

0:23:06 > 0:23:08It meant a lot to be a part of this project,

0:23:08 > 0:23:11I think it's going to stay in my memory for long.

0:23:11 > 0:23:14It's time for the Dengineers to see Bravo Bridge,

0:23:14 > 0:23:18designed by our awesome architects Tony and Satwinder.

0:23:18 > 0:23:19Wow.

0:23:19 > 0:23:21What do you think to it?

0:23:21 > 0:23:22It's amazing.

0:23:22 > 0:23:24It's like a big rainbow.

0:23:24 > 0:23:26Lots of different colours and when you walk through,

0:23:26 > 0:23:29you'll get all the light shining off the different cables,

0:23:29 > 0:23:30it'll be just fantastic.

0:23:30 > 0:23:32- It's amazing.- Yeah?

0:23:32 > 0:23:35Just everything about the den is amazing.

0:23:35 > 0:23:38This den will mean the world to our family

0:23:38 > 0:23:40because obviously George suffers,

0:23:40 > 0:23:43and before he's going to have to go to hospital,

0:23:43 > 0:23:47I think he would love to come here and just enjoy himself.

0:23:47 > 0:23:49Boys, as with everything you do, it's beautiful.

0:23:49 > 0:23:51- Thank you.- No worries.

0:23:51 > 0:23:52Thanks, guys.

0:23:52 > 0:23:53It feels really amazing

0:23:53 > 0:23:56that the bridge has gone down so well with the children.

0:23:56 > 0:23:59To know that it's going to have a special kind of place

0:23:59 > 0:24:02in the children's hearts, for us, is absolutely fantastic.

0:24:02 > 0:24:05It's great to be part of something that's bigger than just us.

0:24:08 > 0:24:12Now it's the part of the Den speedster Liam has been waiting for.

0:24:12 > 0:24:15Right, strap us in. Are you ready, Liam?

0:24:15 > 0:24:19The hospice's very own wheelchair accessible zip wire.

0:24:19 > 0:24:223, 2, 1...

0:24:22 > 0:24:24CHEERING

0:24:35 > 0:24:38I think the zip line is really fun and fast

0:24:38 > 0:24:39and I'd like to go on it a lot more.

0:24:39 > 0:24:42Liam wanted speed. He asked for it and he got it.

0:24:42 > 0:24:47The surprises keep on coming in the form of the communication pad,

0:24:47 > 0:24:51a place where every child at the hospice can communicate

0:24:51 > 0:24:52with one another.

0:24:52 > 0:24:54Excited!

0:24:54 > 0:24:55There you are, well done.

0:24:55 > 0:24:58Holly can't communicate with voice like everybody else,

0:24:58 > 0:25:01so this room will be amazing.

0:25:01 > 0:25:03It is just absolutely awesome.

0:25:03 > 0:25:07You've created a whole new world for our children, not just a den,

0:25:07 > 0:25:09a whole new world for them.

0:25:09 > 0:25:12And that's there forever.

0:25:12 > 0:25:14Can't put a price on that.

0:25:15 > 0:25:18The den is proving a massive hit with everyone here

0:25:18 > 0:25:22and the happy path is drawing a big crowd, all eager to see

0:25:22 > 0:25:26the happy memories sent in by the Blue Peter viewers.

0:25:26 > 0:25:28Me and Holly like the happy path

0:25:28 > 0:25:31because you can see everyone's memories that you don't even know.

0:25:31 > 0:25:34Blue Peter fans, Dengineers fans,

0:25:34 > 0:25:35so it's really nice.

0:25:35 > 0:25:38It feels so wonderful to know that

0:25:38 > 0:25:42so many children are going to enjoy so much of what I've designed.

0:25:42 > 0:25:46This is the biggest and most special den I've ever done.

0:25:46 > 0:25:50This den is going to change hundreds and hundreds of children

0:25:50 > 0:25:53and families' lives, and the excitement that this has created,

0:25:53 > 0:25:56that's not what you expect in a children's hospice.

0:25:56 > 0:25:58It could all be very much about death and dying,

0:25:58 > 0:26:01and this is going to make it about life and living.

0:26:02 > 0:26:05One of the big inspirations for this den was Leyton's brother Carson

0:26:05 > 0:26:09and his treehouse, and we've got one final surprise in store.

0:26:15 > 0:26:16It's brilliant.

0:26:16 > 0:26:18You think he'd like it?

0:26:18 > 0:26:19I think he'll love it. Thank you.

0:26:21 > 0:26:24I think the sign at the start of the den is very special

0:26:24 > 0:26:27because it's representing Carson and his treehouse

0:26:27 > 0:26:29and how much fun he used to have in it.

0:26:31 > 0:26:33All our Dengineers absolutely love the den

0:26:33 > 0:26:36and there's one person in particular that they want to thank.

0:26:36 > 0:26:381, 2, 3...

0:26:38 > 0:26:41ALL: THANK YOU!

0:26:41 > 0:26:43Aw, brilliant! Let's have it!

0:26:43 > 0:26:45Aww, thank you, thank you.

0:26:45 > 0:26:47How grateful am I to all the Dengineers?

0:26:47 > 0:26:50They've been absolutely amazing, every single one of them.

0:26:50 > 0:26:53I've never seen such a large group of people

0:26:53 > 0:26:54come together in one big team.

0:26:54 > 0:26:57Everybody's worked so hard, it's been so friendly,

0:26:57 > 0:26:59everybody's dug in for the cause.

0:26:59 > 0:27:01Couldn't have asked for any more.

0:27:01 > 0:27:05It's been my pleasure, I hope you all really, really enjoy it

0:27:05 > 0:27:07and make some fantastic memories.

0:27:07 > 0:27:09Group hug, look, everybody in.

0:27:09 > 0:27:11Thank you.

0:27:11 > 0:27:13It's what we asked you to do,

0:27:13 > 0:27:16to create something where children, brothers and sisters

0:27:16 > 0:27:19and the disabled children could play and be together.

0:27:19 > 0:27:22You've done it, you know, it couldn't have been any better.

0:27:22 > 0:27:23It's perfect.

0:27:23 > 0:27:28The experience has been absolutely amazing.
