0:00:02 > 0:00:04- I'm Lauren.- And I'm Joe. - And this is the Dengineers.
0:00:04 > 0:00:07The show that puts you in charge of building your very own dream den.
0:00:07 > 0:00:09Over the past two series,
0:00:09 > 0:00:11we've helped children all over the UK
0:00:11 > 0:00:15transform their ideas into amazing spaces.
0:00:16 > 0:00:19- This is so awesome.- Epic!
0:00:19 > 0:00:22And now we're going back to find out how the dens
0:00:22 > 0:00:25have changed the lives of the Dengineers that created them.
0:00:25 > 0:00:27It's just more than you could have ever wanted.
0:00:27 > 0:00:29Oh, Mum, let's have a hug.
0:00:29 > 0:00:32This is The Dengineers Revisit.
0:00:35 > 0:00:36Yay!
0:00:44 > 0:00:45Amazing!
0:00:52 > 0:00:54Joe, so excited that you're joining the team,
0:00:54 > 0:00:58but every Dengineer needs to know his or her stuff,
0:00:58 > 0:01:00so I've got a little history test for you.
0:01:00 > 0:01:02OK, I've done my homework. I'm ready for it.
0:01:02 > 0:01:04Question number one, over the past two series,
0:01:04 > 0:01:06how many dens have we made?
0:01:06 > 0:01:08Give me a minute.
0:01:09 > 0:01:13I'm going to say 20 but across two community dens,
0:01:13 > 0:01:18there were a total of nine structures so my final answer is 29.
0:01:18 > 0:01:21Very clever. That is correct, Joe Tracini!
0:01:21 > 0:01:23Well done. Question number two.
0:01:23 > 0:01:26Over the past two series,
0:01:26 > 0:01:28how many children have become Dengineers?
0:01:31 > 0:01:35- 36.- 36 is correct. Well done, you!
0:01:35 > 0:01:37Can we make it three out of three?
0:01:37 > 0:01:43Which of these have the Dengineers never attempted before?
0:01:43 > 0:01:45A, to design a den.
0:01:45 > 0:01:48B, decorate a den.
0:01:48 > 0:01:51Or C, help a den move house?
0:01:51 > 0:01:53You don't need it for that, do you?
0:01:53 > 0:01:56- No, not that sort of question. - No.- Help a den move house.
0:01:56 > 0:02:01Is correct! We have never moved a den to a different house.
0:02:01 > 0:02:03- Happy with that.- Until now.
0:02:03 > 0:02:04What?!
0:02:05 > 0:02:10Dengineer Ben loves trains and boy, does he know his stuff.
0:02:10 > 0:02:12This is the Flying Scotsman.
0:02:12 > 0:02:15This is the Class 06.
0:02:15 > 0:02:18Number three is the Class 31.
0:02:18 > 0:02:22Ben needed a den where he could play with his trains and build his tracks
0:02:22 > 0:02:24in peace, away from his little sister, Verity.
0:02:24 > 0:02:28Sharing a bedroom meant Ben's trains were in constant danger
0:02:28 > 0:02:29from total destruction.
0:02:29 > 0:02:31It was full steam ahead on the build
0:02:31 > 0:02:35as Sege and the team transformed the bottom of Ben's garden
0:02:35 > 0:02:37into his very own railway station.
0:02:37 > 0:02:39And someone let you have a go on a digger.
0:02:41 > 0:02:43Wow, this is the best thing ever!
0:02:43 > 0:02:44That was brave!
0:02:47 > 0:02:50Ben, out you come!
0:02:50 > 0:02:52Oh, my gosh!
0:02:54 > 0:02:56This is...
0:02:56 > 0:02:57better than I was expecting.
0:02:57 > 0:02:58This is brilliant.
0:02:58 > 0:03:01You can't stop smiling, I love it!
0:03:03 > 0:03:04Wow!
0:03:07 > 0:03:09Well, Ben, last time we were here putting up your den,
0:03:09 > 0:03:12it was raining and now we're back again and it's raining again.
0:03:12 > 0:03:14How's things been, I've heard there's been
0:03:14 > 0:03:16- a few changes around here? - Yes, yes, there has.
0:03:16 > 0:03:17For example, I have moved house
0:03:17 > 0:03:19and it has been six months without my den.
0:03:19 > 0:03:21So, you moved house?
0:03:21 > 0:03:22- Yes.- But the den stayed here at your old house?
0:03:22 > 0:03:26- Yes.- So, you've not been able to use it?- No.- What's that been like?
0:03:26 > 0:03:28- Dull.- I bet it has.
0:03:28 > 0:03:31Well, don't worry because I've got just the guys for the job.
0:03:31 > 0:03:33Here we go, here's the muscle.
0:03:33 > 0:03:35- How are you, guys? All right? - Good, thank you, a bit wet.
0:03:35 > 0:03:36It's a bit damp, isn't it?
0:03:36 > 0:03:39- A little damp.- So, we're going to take down a den today.
0:03:39 > 0:03:41- Yes.- Is it going to be all right?
0:03:41 > 0:03:42Yes...
0:03:42 > 0:03:44HE LAUGHS
0:03:44 > 0:03:46That doesn't exactly fill us with confidence.
0:03:50 > 0:03:52I'm a little bit nervous about my den coming down,
0:03:52 > 0:03:55just in case anything snaps or breaks.
0:03:56 > 0:03:58I need someone on here.
0:03:59 > 0:04:00Oh!
0:04:01 > 0:04:04Whoo, that was heavy!
0:04:04 > 0:04:06It's got to go back up now!
0:04:06 > 0:04:08The wall's loose.
0:04:09 > 0:04:11- Got it?- Careful with that.
0:04:15 > 0:04:17The pieces of Ben's den are so heavy
0:04:17 > 0:04:20that straps are needed to help take the weight.
0:04:20 > 0:04:25Even then, it takes four full-grown Dengineers to lift one.
0:04:28 > 0:04:30Hi, Mum and Dad... LOUD CRACK
0:04:30 > 0:04:32Oh!
0:04:32 > 0:04:34If anything, there's always positives
0:04:34 > 0:04:36to take out of these circumstances.
0:04:36 > 0:04:38Now, we can just carry a bit each and let the boys fix it.
0:04:38 > 0:04:41- Quick, run!- You saw nothing! - Don't let them see!
0:04:42 > 0:04:46This moving lark didn't half throw up a few surprises!
0:04:46 > 0:04:49You're telling me, Joe, but at least there aren't any scary spiders.
0:04:52 > 0:04:54- Oh, my gosh! - Wowzers, that's a big 'un.
0:04:54 > 0:04:57You have to deal with this all the time. Why are you touching it?!
0:04:57 > 0:04:59Can someone make him stop? I can't bear this.
0:05:00 > 0:05:02I am not volunteering to move the spider
0:05:02 > 0:05:04so it'll have to come with us.
0:05:04 > 0:05:07- Oh, no.- Which way are we going?
0:05:11 > 0:05:14Yay! Well done!
0:05:14 > 0:05:17With Ben's den finally loaded up,
0:05:17 > 0:05:19it's time to deliver his station to its new home.
0:05:21 > 0:05:23While the Dengineers start rebuilding,
0:05:23 > 0:05:27I'm off to catch up with mum to find out more about the new house.
0:05:27 > 0:05:30- How's the move been? - The move has been quite chaotic.
0:05:30 > 0:05:33Ben hasn't actually got a bedroom to sleep in.
0:05:33 > 0:05:35We've had to do re-plumbing.
0:05:35 > 0:05:37We had to put a new water tank in when we moved.
0:05:37 > 0:05:40We need new electrics in that room so there's a lot going on.
0:05:40 > 0:05:42So, where's he been sleeping?
0:05:42 > 0:05:45He's actually sleeping in one of the other upstairs bedrooms which should
0:05:45 > 0:05:47actually be an upstairs lounge,
0:05:47 > 0:05:50so he's in there and he has a sofa in there and all the pets in there.
0:05:50 > 0:05:53It must have been quite tough for him over the last few months.
0:05:53 > 0:05:58- Yes.- Not having his bedroom and also not having a den either?
0:05:58 > 0:06:01No, he's been completely without so I think he's going to be so chuffed.
0:06:01 > 0:06:05I think it's really going to make this new house feel like home.
0:06:05 > 0:06:09Well, hopefully they are not far from getting things back on track.
0:06:09 > 0:06:11Back on track, did you see what I did there?
0:06:11 > 0:06:15Inadvertently. I didn't even mean to make a joke but I just did one!
0:06:15 > 0:06:18One thing Ben has managed to salvage from the den
0:06:18 > 0:06:20is his table for building his tracks.
0:06:20 > 0:06:22It's currently taking over the dining room
0:06:22 > 0:06:24and he's created a whole world for his trains.
0:06:26 > 0:06:30And now, after six months, it can finally go back into his den,
0:06:30 > 0:06:32and his best mate, Harrison, has turned up to help.
0:06:35 > 0:06:38OK, that's phase one complete! Well done, everybody.
0:06:38 > 0:06:41In just one day, the Dengineers have taken down,
0:06:41 > 0:06:44transported and rebuilt Ben's den,
0:06:44 > 0:06:46but will he be as impressed this time around?
0:06:48 > 0:06:50Guys, are you ready to see the den again?
0:06:50 > 0:06:53Out you come! It's back!
0:06:54 > 0:06:57- Hoorah!- The den has returned!
0:06:57 > 0:06:59- What do you think?- It's wonderful.
0:06:59 > 0:07:01Really cool, are you glad to have it back?
0:07:01 > 0:07:03- Very.- I can't believe how hard everyone has worked.
0:07:03 > 0:07:06Amazing that they've done it in such a short space of time.
0:07:06 > 0:07:08Back to normal. What do you think?
0:07:08 > 0:07:10Nice, I like it very much.
0:07:11 > 0:07:12Thanks to the Dengineers,
0:07:12 > 0:07:16Ben has got his den back and he can start building once again,
0:07:16 > 0:07:19which means this den is definitely done.
0:07:19 > 0:07:20Unless he moves house again.
0:07:22 > 0:07:25Right, Joe, our next challenge is to build a house, but don't worry,
0:07:25 > 0:07:28because I have drawn the plans.
0:07:28 > 0:07:31- Look at that! - It's shocking, isn't it?
0:07:31 > 0:07:33Look at that. Why have you written "nice roof"?
0:07:33 > 0:07:35- It needs a nice roof. - "Quite big" isn't a measurement.
0:07:35 > 0:07:37I'd like it to be quite big.
0:07:37 > 0:07:38- Right, give it to me. - You go and get tea.
0:07:38 > 0:07:40I'll make you a house, promise.
0:07:40 > 0:07:41- OK, good man.- Bye!
0:07:51 > 0:07:53HE WHISTLES CHEERFULLY
0:07:55 > 0:07:57Here we go, two nice brews.
0:07:57 > 0:07:59Milk, no sugar in that one...
0:07:59 > 0:08:00Whoa!
0:08:02 > 0:08:05Wow! Joe, this is amazing.
0:08:05 > 0:08:06It's not amazing, it's magic.
0:08:06 > 0:08:08- ECHOING:- Magic, magic, magic!
0:08:08 > 0:08:10Just like in a fairy tale.
0:08:10 > 0:08:13Once upon a time, there was a Dengineer called Eleanor
0:08:13 > 0:08:15who loved reading and writing.
0:08:15 > 0:08:17Eleanor loves to read and write.
0:08:17 > 0:08:19She reads every day.
0:08:19 > 0:08:23She longed for a place of her own to read and write in peace,
0:08:23 > 0:08:27where she could create imaginary worlds and write fantastic stories.
0:08:27 > 0:08:29I would love a magical library den
0:08:29 > 0:08:31where I could do all my reading and writing.
0:08:31 > 0:08:35Please come, Dengineers, because I really need your help.
0:08:35 > 0:08:37And that's exactly what we did.
0:08:40 > 0:08:43As well as giving Eleanor a place to read and write,
0:08:43 > 0:08:46there was another very good reason for building her dream den.
0:08:46 > 0:08:48Eleanor has cerebral palsy.
0:08:48 > 0:08:49It only affects her mobility
0:08:49 > 0:08:52but it just means that walking is difficult for her.
0:08:52 > 0:08:56The Dengineers and Maral worked their socks off and despite rain...
0:08:58 > 0:09:01..more rain and Mark stinking out the den...
0:09:01 > 0:09:03Mark, I honestly... HE PARPS
0:09:05 > 0:09:07..Eleanor's den was delivered on time.
0:09:07 > 0:09:09CHEERING
0:09:09 > 0:09:13Five, four, three, two, one.
0:09:17 > 0:09:19Oh, my gosh!
0:09:19 > 0:09:21Look at the little fairy doors.
0:09:21 > 0:09:23How are you feeling, Eleanor?
0:09:23 > 0:09:24Really happy.
0:09:25 > 0:09:26In you go.
0:09:27 > 0:09:29Whoa!
0:09:29 > 0:09:31Amazing.
0:09:31 > 0:09:33How cool is that?
0:09:34 > 0:09:36I'm back to catch up with Eleanor
0:09:36 > 0:09:39and see how things have been going with her den.
0:09:39 > 0:09:41Hello! How are you?
0:09:41 > 0:09:44- Great, thanks.- We had such a good time, didn't we?
0:09:44 > 0:09:46What was it like having the Dengineers turn up at your house?
0:09:46 > 0:09:50It was super exciting just thinking, how is this happening to me?
0:09:50 > 0:09:55And this obviously is when you came and met one of your literary heroes,
0:09:55 > 0:09:56Jacqueline Wilson.
0:09:56 > 0:09:57I've got the picture over there.
0:09:57 > 0:09:59Oh, there she is.
0:09:59 > 0:10:00It was just amazing.
0:10:00 > 0:10:04Not many people get that experience to meet a professional writer.
0:10:04 > 0:10:06What else have you been doing since I saw you last time?
0:10:06 > 0:10:10I entered a competition at Cardiff Museum and I came first place.
0:10:10 > 0:10:14Well, Eleanor, I know all about the fact that you've won a competition.
0:10:14 > 0:10:16Have a watch of this.
0:10:16 > 0:10:20Hi, Eleanor, welcome to a very special CBBC Book Club,
0:10:20 > 0:10:22with me, Katie, just for you.
0:10:22 > 0:10:24Lauren sent me your story, The Falcon's Curse,
0:10:24 > 0:10:26and I really, really enjoyed it.
0:10:26 > 0:10:28I loved how you wrote a story about an Egyptian queen
0:10:28 > 0:10:32who put a curse on her beloved pet falcon's grave so that any building
0:10:32 > 0:10:35built on top of it would crumble into dust.
0:10:35 > 0:10:37Congratulations for winning the competition.
0:10:37 > 0:10:39All of us at CBBC are super proud of you
0:10:39 > 0:10:41and there's one more very special person
0:10:41 > 0:10:44who wants to congratulate you as well.
0:10:44 > 0:10:47Over to you, Dame Jacqueline Wilson.
0:10:47 > 0:10:49Hi, Eleanor. I loved meeting you
0:10:49 > 0:10:52when the Dengineers decided to make you
0:10:52 > 0:10:55your very special magical den.
0:10:55 > 0:10:57I'm so happy that you like it
0:10:57 > 0:11:01and that it's inspired you to write your own work,
0:11:01 > 0:11:03and you won a competition!
0:11:03 > 0:11:05Well done, darling.
0:11:05 > 0:11:07Do you know, I think we're soul sisters.
0:11:07 > 0:11:12We both love books, we both love writing, so good for you!
0:11:12 > 0:11:14How lovely is that,
0:11:14 > 0:11:17to know that Dame Jacqueline and Katie Thistleton
0:11:17 > 0:11:22- both found out about what you've been doing?- It's just amazing.
0:11:22 > 0:11:26Eleanor's magical library den is already helping her fulfil her dream
0:11:26 > 0:11:28of becoming an author.
0:11:28 > 0:11:30But I want to find out how it has helped her in other ways,
0:11:30 > 0:11:32from her mum, Hannah.
0:11:32 > 0:11:35What's it given her that she didn't have before?
0:11:35 > 0:11:37It's given her independence, definitely.
0:11:37 > 0:11:42She's had friends over to play in the den, which has been really nice.
0:11:42 > 0:11:45I think being on the Dengineers has given her confidence.
0:11:45 > 0:11:47When we're out, people will say to her,
0:11:47 > 0:11:49"Oh, you were on the Dengineers."
0:11:49 > 0:11:53Before, I think sometimes because she's in a chair, people look.
0:11:54 > 0:11:57Whereas now because she's been on Dengineers,
0:11:57 > 0:12:01people look and they will come over and it sort of opens up a chat.
0:12:01 > 0:12:03That's so nice, it must make such a difference,
0:12:03 > 0:12:04to be sat there and going,
0:12:04 > 0:12:06"People aren't looking at me because I'm in a wheelchair,
0:12:06 > 0:12:09"it's because they recognise me off the TV."
0:12:09 > 0:12:12I'm so glad to hear that she's made such good use of it.
0:12:12 > 0:12:14I genuinely feel like I'm going to be buying her book one day.
0:12:14 > 0:12:15I've just got this feeling about it.
0:12:17 > 0:12:21Not only is Eleanor's den giving her the space to read and write,
0:12:21 > 0:12:25it's also become a favourite place for her and her friends to hang out.
0:12:25 > 0:12:28There's no doubt that this budding author is already creating
0:12:28 > 0:12:31a little bit of magic in her very own garden.
0:12:31 > 0:12:33The thing about building dens
0:12:33 > 0:12:35is that you need someone in charge, Joe.
0:12:35 > 0:12:38You need somebody who can pull everything together
0:12:38 > 0:12:40and get things on track.
0:12:40 > 0:12:41I can do that. Hey, you, lady.
0:12:41 > 0:12:44Lady with the bricks, yeah. I need a sandwich, I need it to be white,
0:12:44 > 0:12:46no crusts, cheese.
0:12:46 > 0:12:48That's it, stop looking, go and get it now.
0:12:48 > 0:12:49Crisps, lots of crisps.
0:12:49 > 0:12:52No, no, no, no, I wasn't talking about that, was I?
0:12:52 > 0:12:54I mean, take the community dens for example.
0:12:54 > 0:12:56There's only one man for the job.
0:12:57 > 0:13:01Some say he learned woodwork in a mountain cave in Tibet
0:13:01 > 0:13:05and is in fact one of Father Christmas's elves.
0:13:05 > 0:13:09Others say he taught the Next Steppers to do the splits.
0:13:09 > 0:13:13Youch! He is of course Sege, the ledge!
0:13:15 > 0:13:16It's uncanny, that.
0:13:18 > 0:13:21This was our very first super-sized den
0:13:21 > 0:13:23and it's safe to say there were a few nerves on the day
0:13:23 > 0:13:27that we surprised the pupils and teachers at the Lancasterian School.
0:13:27 > 0:13:30- This is our scariest one yet. - I know, I'm actually really nervous.
0:13:30 > 0:13:32It's scary with a couple of children,
0:13:32 > 0:13:33- let alone this many. - Hello!
0:13:33 > 0:13:35CHEERING
0:13:35 > 0:13:39We are going to be building you guys
0:13:39 > 0:13:42your very own massive dream den
0:13:42 > 0:13:45- just for the school. - CHEERING
0:13:45 > 0:13:49- JOE:- The school needed a den where everyone could hang out and have fun
0:13:49 > 0:13:53as parts of the playground weren't suitable for wheelchair users.
0:13:53 > 0:13:55This den had to be access all areas.
0:13:57 > 0:14:00Sege and the Dengineers faced a massive task
0:14:00 > 0:14:02to transform a quiet area of the school
0:14:02 > 0:14:05into an all-singing, all-dancing den.
0:14:05 > 0:14:07And that meant bringing in the big boys.
0:14:11 > 0:14:13We thought one den wasn't going to be big enough, not at all.
0:14:13 > 0:14:16- No, no, no. - So we've gone for five dens.
0:14:16 > 0:14:19- Five dens! How about that?- Yeah!
0:14:21 > 0:14:23Having this den meant a lot to the pupils,
0:14:23 > 0:14:26as we found out from Mrs Upton.
0:14:26 > 0:14:28I think there are so many things
0:14:28 > 0:14:30that as children we take for granted.
0:14:30 > 0:14:33We take it for granted that we can go to our mate's house for tea
0:14:33 > 0:14:35or go swimming together but I think
0:14:35 > 0:14:38if you've got four friends and they're all in a wheelchair,
0:14:38 > 0:14:40it's really hard to find the space to do that.
0:14:40 > 0:14:43After five days of hard graft,
0:14:43 > 0:14:46it was a race to the finish to deliver the biggest den
0:14:46 > 0:14:48ever attempted on the Dengineers.
0:14:48 > 0:14:51A magical transport-themed town.
0:14:51 > 0:14:52- Come on!- Hurry up!
0:14:52 > 0:14:55Yeah! Yeah!
0:14:58 > 0:14:59Our very own den!
0:14:59 > 0:15:02- Have a look at this!- We did it!
0:15:02 > 0:15:04How good is this, guys?
0:15:04 > 0:15:07Oh, brilliant, yes!
0:15:07 > 0:15:11- Yeah!- They absolutely love it.
0:15:14 > 0:15:16Nyaaoooow, nyaaaoowwww...
0:15:16 > 0:15:18Beep, beep!
0:15:18 > 0:15:20Today I thought I'd arrive in style.
0:15:20 > 0:15:23- Check out the wheels! - What are you doing, Lauren?
0:15:23 > 0:15:25Our bus, not your bus.
0:15:25 > 0:15:26We have the wheels.
0:15:26 > 0:15:28So, sling your hook and get out!
0:15:28 > 0:15:30Our den, our den!
0:15:30 > 0:15:32There's nothing like a nice, warm welcome!
0:15:33 > 0:15:36Well, it is no grown-ups allowed but I thought they'd let ME back in.
0:15:37 > 0:15:41Since we were last here, there have been big changes at the school.
0:15:41 > 0:15:45Mrs Cass has moved on and there's a new head teacher in charge.
0:15:45 > 0:15:47Mr Critchlow, last time we were here,
0:15:47 > 0:15:50- you were the assistant head then, weren't you?- That's right, yeah.
0:15:50 > 0:15:53And your office actually overlooked where we made the den.
0:15:53 > 0:15:56I had front row seats because you blocked off a lot of the windows
0:15:56 > 0:15:58but my office window, I could get sneaky peeks!
0:15:58 > 0:16:02- Oh, cheat!- It was incredible to see how much you guys got achieved
0:16:02 > 0:16:03in the time you were there,
0:16:03 > 0:16:06but also seeing the pupils being involved as well
0:16:06 > 0:16:07in that process was fantastic.
0:16:07 > 0:16:11And that space for wheelchair users, it was just totally inaccessible,
0:16:11 > 0:16:12- wasn't it?- Yes, it was.
0:16:12 > 0:16:14It looked very nice.
0:16:14 > 0:16:17However, the pupils couldn't go on there because it was often muddy,
0:16:17 > 0:16:18wheelchairs would get stuck,
0:16:18 > 0:16:21so it was an area really that was out of bounds for the pupils.
0:16:21 > 0:16:24- How have they been using the den since?- They use it every day.
0:16:24 > 0:16:26We've been doing some exploration of science.
0:16:26 > 0:16:29We have been looking at transport, different modes of transport
0:16:29 > 0:16:32and also we've had some drama and music sessions out there as well.
0:16:32 > 0:16:34That's brilliant, so it's given them a place
0:16:34 > 0:16:36where they can all just hang out together?
0:16:36 > 0:16:39Absolutely. Some of our pupils might not get the chance to hang out
0:16:39 > 0:16:40at each other's houses
0:16:40 > 0:16:43and transport for wheelchairs can be quite difficult.
0:16:43 > 0:16:47The den gives them that opportunity to go and just hang out together.
0:16:47 > 0:16:51Also what the den has allowed is for the pupils to be able to develop
0:16:51 > 0:16:53their skills with wheelchairs as well
0:16:53 > 0:16:55so it not only helps in social situations
0:16:55 > 0:16:57but also helps from an access point of view as well.
0:16:57 > 0:16:59Well, Mr Critchlow, thank you so much
0:16:59 > 0:17:02and we're so glad to hear that it's being put to such good use.
0:17:02 > 0:17:05You're more than welcome. Thank you so much for everything you've done.
0:17:10 > 0:17:14So, you guys, it's wicked seeing the dens. They all look amazing!
0:17:14 > 0:17:17I've come up with a really good idea to find out what's been going on
0:17:17 > 0:17:18since we last saw you.
0:17:18 > 0:17:21We're going to update your memory board today.
0:17:21 > 0:17:25So this floor we put in was a special type of floor for you guys.
0:17:25 > 0:17:29Has it made it easier for you all to play on it?
0:17:29 > 0:17:31- Yeah.- In what way? How is it easier?
0:17:31 > 0:17:33It's easier to move around.
0:17:33 > 0:17:35You all joined in and did some hard work as well, didn't you?
0:17:35 > 0:17:37What did you guys do?
0:17:37 > 0:17:40- The painting.- I remember you doing the painting.
0:17:40 > 0:17:41- You did, didn't you? - We painted the wheels.
0:17:41 > 0:17:43You painted the wheels?
0:17:43 > 0:17:46- Yes.- Was it hard work getting involved?
0:17:46 > 0:17:49- No.- Did you find it easy? - Wait, yeah, it was.
0:17:49 > 0:17:52Yes, it was, mate. Yes, it was!
0:17:52 > 0:17:53How about this picture?
0:17:53 > 0:17:55Who is this? Can you see?
0:17:55 > 0:17:56Oh, it's us!
0:17:56 > 0:17:58Sege and you guys.
0:17:59 > 0:18:01I loved it when this lot got on Sege's case
0:18:01 > 0:18:03to make sure everything was perfect.
0:18:03 > 0:18:05How do we get in the den?
0:18:05 > 0:18:07That's all revealed tomorrow, that is.
0:18:07 > 0:18:09How big is the den inside?
0:18:09 > 0:18:11All of you can fit in there comfortably.
0:18:11 > 0:18:13Why has it got a telephone box on it?
0:18:13 > 0:18:15Did you not want a telephone box then?
0:18:15 > 0:18:16What's that blue one going to be?
0:18:16 > 0:18:18It's another form of transport.
0:18:18 > 0:18:20- Sege, Sege, Sege! - No, I can't tell you...
0:18:20 > 0:18:22That's some serious Dengineer stick.
0:18:24 > 0:18:26What was it like to see it for the very first time?
0:18:26 > 0:18:30I think it was amazing and it brings the whole school and everyone that
0:18:30 > 0:18:32uses the den a lot more closer together
0:18:32 > 0:18:35so it creates a special connection between everyone
0:18:35 > 0:18:39so we are so lucky to have that den.
0:18:39 > 0:18:40Who's ready to get messy?
0:18:40 > 0:18:43THEY ALL CHEER
0:18:43 > 0:18:46Check your nail varnish out as well!
0:18:49 > 0:18:51This den was our first big build.
0:18:51 > 0:18:52It was a huge challenge
0:18:52 > 0:18:56and there was definitely some nerves along the way.
0:18:56 > 0:18:57But thanks to the Dengineers,
0:18:57 > 0:19:00these guys have got the space they needed.
0:19:00 > 0:19:02I think it's a job well done.
0:19:08 > 0:19:10WOOD you believe it? I'm sweating.
0:19:10 > 0:19:11They're working us far too hard.
0:19:11 > 0:19:15Come on, Joe, how many times do I need to DRILL this into you?
0:19:15 > 0:19:17We're not having a break yet.
0:19:17 > 0:19:19Right, well, BRACE yourself, Loz,
0:19:19 > 0:19:23because I am PLANING to show you some skills.
0:19:23 > 0:19:25There we go. Speaking of planing,
0:19:25 > 0:19:27you should meet Phillip who's a real plane expert.
0:19:29 > 0:19:34Dengineer Phillip impressed us with his knowledge from the start.
0:19:34 > 0:19:35I like Spitfires.
0:19:35 > 0:19:37So, you like World War II planes?
0:19:37 > 0:19:40Yeah, I love them. I also quite like the Lancaster Bomber.
0:19:40 > 0:19:41Does that still fly now?
0:19:41 > 0:19:44- It's pretty old. - There's only two left flying.
0:19:44 > 0:19:45- Left in the entire world?- Yeah.
0:19:45 > 0:19:48He wanted to transform his passion for World War II planes
0:19:48 > 0:19:51into the den of his dreams.
0:19:51 > 0:19:52What would be on your wish list?
0:19:52 > 0:19:54A Spitfire seat so you could see out
0:19:54 > 0:19:57and it would be like you were flying the plane.
0:19:58 > 0:20:00And with a little help from Sege and the team,
0:20:00 > 0:20:01that's exactly what happened.
0:20:03 > 0:20:05Having the den was all the more special for Phillip
0:20:05 > 0:20:09because he suffers from a condition called EGID.
0:20:09 > 0:20:12It's a condition called eosinophilic gastrointestinal disease.
0:20:12 > 0:20:16He has problems absorbing and eating food and it means
0:20:16 > 0:20:20he doesn't put on weight very well and doesn't grow very well
0:20:20 > 0:20:22and can be in a lot of pain at times.
0:20:22 > 0:20:26But that didn't stop him getting really hands-on with the build
0:20:26 > 0:20:29and he picked up some skills straightaway.
0:20:29 > 0:20:32- We don't need to be here, really. - Finish my tea and go home!
0:20:32 > 0:20:33He's doing very, very well.
0:20:34 > 0:20:38It was a race to the finish but the runway was laid
0:20:38 > 0:20:40just in time for the big reveal.
0:20:40 > 0:20:45Five, four, three, two, one!
0:20:46 > 0:20:48Oh, wow!
0:20:48 > 0:20:49Wow!
0:20:49 > 0:20:51Wow!
0:20:52 > 0:20:54My goodness me!
0:20:54 > 0:20:57- It's incredible. - Phillip, talk to us.
0:20:57 > 0:20:59That is so cool.
0:20:59 > 0:21:02It's just absolutely brilliant, more than he could ever have wanted.
0:21:03 > 0:21:06- The whole family's gone. - Oh, Mum, let's have a hug!
0:21:08 > 0:21:12And now I've come back to the place where Phillip's Dengineer journey
0:21:12 > 0:21:15began, to see how the den has transformed his life.
0:21:17 > 0:21:19So, Phillip, we're back to where it all started,
0:21:19 > 0:21:20where we surprised you
0:21:20 > 0:21:23before you even knew you were going to have a den.
0:21:23 > 0:21:24What does it feel like to be back?
0:21:24 > 0:21:27It feels weird that I was just in there
0:21:27 > 0:21:29and then you came through the door.
0:21:30 > 0:21:32Phillip? How are you doing?
0:21:32 > 0:21:36We're here to tell you that you're going to get to build your very own
0:21:36 > 0:21:38dream plane den.
0:21:38 > 0:21:39- Really?- Yeah.
0:21:41 > 0:21:43Because I just think it would never happen.
0:21:43 > 0:21:45And it did happen and you got your dream den.
0:21:45 > 0:21:47What do you think the experience
0:21:47 > 0:21:48of being on the Dengineers has done for you?
0:21:48 > 0:21:52It's really good because lots of people have understood my condition
0:21:52 > 0:21:55and also what I like, so, my hobbies.
0:21:55 > 0:21:57What do you think the den has given you to help with that?
0:21:57 > 0:22:00I think the den has given me a space
0:22:00 > 0:22:03just where I can go down and rest
0:22:03 > 0:22:06and then I can come back and be happy again.
0:22:06 > 0:22:09And your den day out was obviously brilliant.
0:22:09 > 0:22:11What did you think of the day?
0:22:11 > 0:22:14It was really fun how I got to help fix a Spitfire.
0:22:14 > 0:22:17It's given you some aspirations for the future, hasn't it?
0:22:17 > 0:22:20Yeah, because I really want to work there when I'm older.
0:22:20 > 0:22:22And then I also got to go up in the Chipmunk
0:22:22 > 0:22:23and that was the best bit of the day.
0:22:25 > 0:22:27He's off! It's unbelievable.
0:22:27 > 0:22:31So cool. It's like we're floating in the air.
0:22:31 > 0:22:33- Yeah, it's real flying, this is. - Yeah.
0:22:36 > 0:22:39And you loved it so much that you've done some flying since then?
0:22:39 > 0:22:42Yeah, so I've been doing flying lessons here.
0:22:42 > 0:22:45- This was me flying. - SHE GASPS
0:22:45 > 0:22:47Oh, my goodness!
0:22:48 > 0:22:49You are so high.
0:22:49 > 0:22:53- Yeah.- The fields look like tiny, tiny little postage stamps.
0:22:53 > 0:22:56- And are you fully in control right now?- Yeah.
0:22:56 > 0:22:59So you've got your instructor sitting next door in case anything
0:22:59 > 0:23:02goes wrong and he needs to swoop in and take control?
0:23:02 > 0:23:04- Yeah.- But otherwise, you're on it.
0:23:04 > 0:23:09- What's the aim then?- To become a pilot and fly by myself.
0:23:09 > 0:23:10This is so exciting.
0:23:10 > 0:23:11This is so good.
0:23:14 > 0:23:18There have been a few new additions to the den since I was last here.
0:23:18 > 0:23:20So, I've hung more planes up.
0:23:20 > 0:23:21Oh, they look brilliant.
0:23:23 > 0:23:26Oh, they look so much better in here as well, don't they?
0:23:26 > 0:23:28They just look perfectly at home.
0:23:28 > 0:23:29What's this photo over here?
0:23:29 > 0:23:31This is a picture of my great Auntie Betty
0:23:31 > 0:23:34and that's when she was in Bomber Command.
0:23:34 > 0:23:36Oh, this is amazing.
0:23:36 > 0:23:38"I was a teenager during the Second World War
0:23:38 > 0:23:40"and after leaving school at 18,
0:23:40 > 0:23:44"I was called up to do my bit for King and Country."
0:23:44 > 0:23:46That's amazing that you've got relatives
0:23:46 > 0:23:49that were around in that period.
0:23:49 > 0:23:52- It feels so fitting to have a bit of family history in here.- Yeah.
0:23:52 > 0:23:56Becoming a Dengineer has had a real impact on Phillip's life
0:23:56 > 0:23:59and I want to find out more from his family.
0:23:59 > 0:24:01How have things changed since we saw you last?
0:24:01 > 0:24:04I think the programme gave him an amazing boost
0:24:04 > 0:24:07and fed his passion for anything and everything that's plane-related.
0:24:07 > 0:24:09We used to have a dining room
0:24:09 > 0:24:12but now it's become his model-making room.
0:24:12 > 0:24:14What does the den mean to Phillip?
0:24:14 > 0:24:15He's been much more confident
0:24:15 > 0:24:18and I think that confidence has come from the den.
0:24:18 > 0:24:19I think it means a lot to him.
0:24:19 > 0:24:22He's down here all the time so it's really nice.
0:24:22 > 0:24:26It legitimises his plane obsession, I think, is a way of putting it.
0:24:26 > 0:24:30What was it like for the Dengineers to come take over your house
0:24:30 > 0:24:32and your garden for that whole week?
0:24:32 > 0:24:34It was the most incredible experience.
0:24:34 > 0:24:37It was such a lovely family time
0:24:37 > 0:24:40and something we'll always look back on really fondly.
0:24:40 > 0:24:41When we saw the programme,
0:24:41 > 0:24:44we hadn't seen what was behind the blue screens
0:24:44 > 0:24:47and actually quite how much he did and up ladders, and...
0:24:47 > 0:24:50Of course, that's a good point. You never actually saw.
0:24:50 > 0:24:53Every time we turned round, he was there with a power tool or a hammer
0:24:53 > 0:24:55or putting glue down or painting.
0:24:55 > 0:24:56It was fantastic to see.
0:24:56 > 0:24:59And he also had that time on the digger which, I think,
0:24:59 > 0:25:02if there's anything that's almost up there with planes, it's diggers.
0:25:02 > 0:25:07- So...- Any excuse to get on a digger. That is one of life's joys!
0:25:08 > 0:25:12Now, a little bird told me that Phillip loves to set you challenges.
0:25:12 > 0:25:14Too right, Joe. I am still not over my attempt
0:25:14 > 0:25:16at model plane building.
0:25:16 > 0:25:18Why have you almost finished?
0:25:18 > 0:25:20I haven't even... The man has almost fallen out of his chair!
0:25:22 > 0:25:25So, if I told you that Phillip has taken up remote-controlled flying...
0:25:25 > 0:25:28Oh, let me guess. He's really, really good at it
0:25:28 > 0:25:31and now it's my go, is it?
0:25:31 > 0:25:33Got it in one.
0:25:33 > 0:25:34How am I feeling about this?
0:25:34 > 0:25:37Well, if I show you this complicated machine,
0:25:37 > 0:25:40that should give you a good indication of how worried I am.
0:25:40 > 0:25:44There is a lot of knobs on there that I don't know how to use.
0:25:45 > 0:25:49Don't worry, James has got you on dual control, just in case.
