0:00:02 > 0:00:04This is The Let's Go Club, but mini!
0:00:04 > 0:00:09Expect making, exploring, super-sizing, dancing, fact-finding
0:00:09 > 0:00:11and laughing.
0:00:11 > 0:00:12We've only got five minutes,
0:00:12 > 0:00:16so get ready for more fun from The Let's Go Club.
0:00:18 > 0:00:19Let's go!
0:00:21 > 0:00:22I'm Isabel.
0:00:22 > 0:00:23I'm Alex.
0:00:23 > 0:00:27- BOTH:- Today we're having a forest adventure.
0:00:27 > 0:00:30Lots of things live in this forest.
0:00:30 > 0:00:33It's full of trees, plants, birds and insects.
0:00:33 > 0:00:36Peter works in this forest.
0:00:36 > 0:00:40He knows all about the animals and plants that live here.
0:00:40 > 0:00:42Is it easy to live in a forest?
0:00:42 > 0:00:45It's easy for plants and trees to live in the forest
0:00:45 > 0:00:47cos they get energy from the sun
0:00:47 > 0:00:50and their nutrients and water from the ground.
0:00:50 > 0:00:53It's also very easy for insects to live here
0:00:53 > 0:00:56cos they eat all the fallen leaves from trees.
0:00:56 > 0:00:59And they live under the logs where it's cool and damp.
0:00:59 > 0:01:01Do we know what these are?
0:01:01 > 0:01:02- Millipede.- Yes.
0:01:02 > 0:01:04- And this one?- A woodlouse?
0:01:04 > 0:01:05A woodlouse, yeah.
0:01:05 > 0:01:07How can we live in the forest?
0:01:07 > 0:01:09Well, first thing we need to do is stay warm.
0:01:09 > 0:01:12One way we can stay warm is by building a fire.
0:01:12 > 0:01:16The first thing we need to get our fire going is some bark.
0:01:16 > 0:01:19And the bark from this tree peels off really easily.
0:01:19 > 0:01:22We need to collect some of these very thin, long twigs.
0:01:22 > 0:01:25We're looking for sticks that snap really easily.
0:01:25 > 0:01:28If they bend it means they're full of water
0:01:28 > 0:01:30and won't burn properly.
0:01:35 > 0:01:39We're in a special safe area for building our fire, here.
0:01:45 > 0:01:47Our fire's ready to light now.
0:01:47 > 0:01:49Fires can be a bit dangerous,
0:01:49 > 0:01:51so we always get a grown-up to light it.
0:01:51 > 0:01:53So I'm going to get this lit.
0:01:53 > 0:01:57Could you guys just sit on these two logs while I do that?
0:01:57 > 0:02:00Our fire doesn't just keep us warm, it can help us cook our food.
0:02:00 > 0:02:04- So would you like to cook a teacake?- Yeah!- Brilliant.
0:02:04 > 0:02:07To cook our teacake we need a cooking tool.
0:02:07 > 0:02:10We need to start with a long straight stick like this,
0:02:10 > 0:02:14and we need another tool to turn this into our cooking tool.
0:02:14 > 0:02:15Do you know what it is?
0:02:15 > 0:02:17- Potato peeler.- It is.
0:02:17 > 0:02:21And we're going to use it to peel the end of our stick
0:02:21 > 0:02:22and turn it into a point.
0:02:22 > 0:02:25We hold the peeler close to the metal bit
0:02:25 > 0:02:28and we put our thumb over the top of our fingers.
0:02:28 > 0:02:31Then we get our stick and point it towards the ground
0:02:31 > 0:02:34and take thin little cuts off.
0:02:34 > 0:02:36Each time you take one of those cuts,
0:02:36 > 0:02:38you need to turn that stick.
0:02:38 > 0:02:40That's it. You're getting it.
0:02:40 > 0:02:42Is it easy?
0:02:42 > 0:02:45It's hard but...
0:02:45 > 0:02:49you do get the hang of it once you've, like, done it.
0:02:49 > 0:02:52OK, let me see. I think you're about finished.
0:02:52 > 0:02:55- Are you finished? Is it good and pointy, do you think?- Yeah.
0:02:55 > 0:02:57We have to sit back on our heels
0:02:57 > 0:02:59so that we're far away from the fire.
0:02:59 > 0:03:02That's why we have nice long sticks -
0:03:02 > 0:03:04so that it's safe for us to put our food over.
0:03:09 > 0:03:12So if you stretch your arms out...
0:03:12 > 0:03:14Oh, that looks so nice.
0:03:15 > 0:03:17This is quite nice.
0:03:18 > 0:03:20Mmm, really nice!
0:03:20 > 0:03:23The most important thing to learn how to do outdoors
0:03:23 > 0:03:25is to make a shelter.
0:03:25 > 0:03:28A shelter will not only keep you warm but dry as well.
0:03:28 > 0:03:31- Are you ready to come and give this a go?- Yes!
0:03:31 > 0:03:35To build shelters, we'll need lots of sticks like these,
0:03:35 > 0:03:37and there are lots of them around here.
0:03:37 > 0:03:41But we'll also need... quite a few of these leaves here.
0:03:41 > 0:03:43What do you think we'll need these for?
0:03:43 > 0:03:44Is it for the roof?
0:03:44 > 0:03:46They make our den waterproof
0:03:46 > 0:03:48and keep all the water on the outside
0:03:48 > 0:03:50so we stay nice and dry on the inside.
0:03:55 > 0:03:58Yeah, let's start putting them on like this.
0:03:58 > 0:04:01And the trick is to get them nice and slanted
0:04:01 > 0:04:05so that any rain will go off them.
0:04:05 > 0:04:08Is that about the right size to go there? Yeah.
0:04:08 > 0:04:09That's about perfect.
0:04:09 > 0:04:12That just hooks on to the top here.
0:04:12 > 0:04:14Sometimes it needs two layers.
0:04:14 > 0:04:18You want to plug up as many of these holes as you can.
0:04:18 > 0:04:21- This one looks kind of good. - And there we go,
0:04:21 > 0:04:23- there is our flag.- Yeah!
0:04:23 > 0:04:24Well done.
0:04:27 > 0:04:29You've done a great job of your shelter.
0:04:29 > 0:04:31What do you think about it?
0:04:31 > 0:04:34I think that it would be actually good
0:04:34 > 0:04:35to sleep in for a few nights.
0:04:35 > 0:04:38Thanks for our forest adventure.
0:04:38 > 0:04:40You are very welcome.
0:04:41 > 0:04:44You can be part of The Let's Go Club too.
0:04:44 > 0:04:47Grab a grown-up and head to the CBeebies website.
0:04:47 > 0:04:51Remember, we're the club that never closes!
