0:00:04 > 0:00:07Expect making, exploring, super-sizing,
0:00:07 > 0:00:10dancing, fact-finding and laughing.
0:00:10 > 0:00:12We've only got a few minutes,
0:00:12 > 0:00:16so get ready for more fun from The Let's Go Club.
0:00:16 > 0:00:18- Hi, I'm Jamie.- And I'm Adam.
0:00:18 > 0:00:21Today, we're going to go looking for fossils.
0:00:21 > 0:00:23BOTH: Let's go.
0:00:23 > 0:00:24This is Will.
0:00:24 > 0:00:27He knows everything about rocks and fossils
0:00:27 > 0:00:32so he's going to show us how to be fossil hunters.
0:00:32 > 0:00:35Hi, Jamie. Hi, Adam. I've got a really special rock here.
0:00:35 > 0:00:38There's something on here. Can anyone see what it is?
0:00:38 > 0:00:40- Is it a footprint?- It's like a footprint, isn't it?- Yeah.
0:00:40 > 0:00:43Can you see these footprints here? Can you see that?
0:00:43 > 0:00:46With one, two, three toes. There's some dinosaur footprints.
0:00:46 > 0:00:49Where do you think it might have come from?
0:00:49 > 0:00:52The dinosaurs leave the footprints on the beach
0:00:52 > 0:00:54and then they were staying there for a long time
0:00:54 > 0:00:56and turned into this rock.
0:00:56 > 0:00:59That's right. Half the dinosaur made it in the soft sand.
0:00:59 > 0:01:01It then got turned into rock,
0:01:01 > 0:01:04buried really deep and eventually ended up in the top of these cliffs,
0:01:04 > 0:01:06these yellow rocks at the top,
0:01:06 > 0:01:10dropped out onto the beach and we find them as fossils.
0:01:10 > 0:01:12It's 165 million years old.
0:01:12 > 0:01:15Today, we're going to go and look for some fossils
0:01:15 > 0:01:18from the bottom of the cliff that are even older.
0:01:23 > 0:01:26- Can we go looking for fossils now? - I think that's a really good idea.
0:01:26 > 0:01:29I've got some really special kit for you guys today.
0:01:29 > 0:01:31I've got a bucket each. There's one for you, Adam.
0:01:31 > 0:01:33A bucket for you as well, Jamie.
0:01:33 > 0:01:36I've also got some really nice checklists just here
0:01:36 > 0:01:38with some pictures on it of fossils we might find.
0:01:38 > 0:01:41So these are the fossils from the sea shells
0:01:41 > 0:01:43that used to live in the ocean that once covered
0:01:43 > 0:01:45all of this part of where we are today.
0:01:45 > 0:01:47Could you tell which rock are fossils?
0:01:47 > 0:01:48That's a really great question.
0:01:48 > 0:01:51What we need to do is find some of the grey rocks on this beach.
0:01:51 > 0:01:53These are the ones that might have the fossils shells in.
0:01:53 > 0:01:56Sometimes on the outside, but quite often on the inside.
0:01:56 > 0:01:58So if you find any of these grey rocks
0:01:58 > 0:02:00with lumps or bumps, funny shapes,
0:02:00 > 0:02:03put them in your bucket and we'll have a look at them.
0:02:07 > 0:02:10- Well, what have you got, Jamie? - I found this fossil.
0:02:10 > 0:02:13You see this heart shape in here?
0:02:13 > 0:02:15This is one of the ones you call a Bivalve.
0:02:15 > 0:02:18Can you find Bivalve on your checklist, guys?
0:02:21 > 0:02:24Look at this one here. This is a really nice one.
0:02:24 > 0:02:27One of the coiled-up ones that we call the Ammonite. Yeah?
0:02:27 > 0:02:29Have you seen this one on your checklist?
0:02:29 > 0:02:31When it was alive, there was a squid that lived
0:02:31 > 0:02:33at this bottom end of the shell here,
0:02:33 > 0:02:34swimming around in our ocean.
0:02:34 > 0:02:36Sometimes, some of our fossils
0:02:36 > 0:02:38are actually still hidden inside the rock.
0:02:38 > 0:02:41- So can we smash one of them open? - We could do, couldn't we?
0:02:41 > 0:02:43We could maybe split one of these rocks open,
0:02:43 > 0:02:45- see if there's anything inside.- Yep.
0:02:45 > 0:02:47Splitting rocks can be dangerous
0:02:47 > 0:02:50and should only be done by a grown-up.
0:02:54 > 0:02:56So this here is some of the shell, here, yeah?
0:02:56 > 0:02:58So, this is the coil of the Ammonite.
0:02:58 > 0:03:01You can actually see the coil quite nice on that one,
0:03:01 > 0:03:02- the spiral.- Yeah.
0:03:02 > 0:03:04We're making notes about what we find.
0:03:04 > 0:03:07I'm drawing a picture of my fossil.
0:03:11 > 0:03:13These fossils here are Belemnites.
0:03:13 > 0:03:16This rock is just a little bit big to carry off the beach,
0:03:16 > 0:03:18I think, so what can we do?
0:03:18 > 0:03:19Take a picture of it.
0:03:19 > 0:03:23Great idea. Here you go. Over to you.
0:03:23 > 0:03:25Some fossils are in the ground,
0:03:25 > 0:03:30but we can still remember them by taking a photo
0:03:30 > 0:03:33and then making a rubbing of this fossil.
0:03:33 > 0:03:36OK, so now it's time for the best thing about fossil hunting,
0:03:36 > 0:03:40I think it's hot chocolate time. What do you say? BOTH: Yeah!
0:03:42 > 0:03:44You can join the Let's Go Club, too.
0:03:44 > 0:03:47Grab a grown-up and head to the CBeebies website.
0:03:47 > 0:03:51There are songs to sing, things to make and do
0:03:51 > 0:03:53and CBeebies radio, too.
0:03:53 > 0:03:56Remember, we're the club that never closes.
