0:00:04 > 0:00:07I'm Stacey Dooley, and I just love animals,

0:00:07 > 0:00:10so it makes me super sad to see them poorly.

0:00:10 > 0:00:13But when they are, they can come to places like this where awesome

0:00:13 > 0:00:15vets will make them better.

0:00:15 > 0:00:17Hello, baby.

0:00:18 > 0:00:20Meet passionate pet lover Cheryl.

0:00:20 > 0:00:24And that is how she broke it in the first place.

0:00:24 > 0:00:27The biggest softie of them all, gentle James.

0:00:27 > 0:00:29- DEEP VOICE:- Hello, Stu.

0:00:29 > 0:00:32Come on, come for a little swim.

0:00:32 > 0:00:35The vet who talks to the animals, Cat.

0:00:35 > 0:00:37I'm a snorty pig.

0:00:37 > 0:00:39Oh, no, don't eat the tape measure.

0:00:39 > 0:00:41And the one with all the best moves - Rory.

0:00:43 > 0:00:46Look at that. Oh, wow, that was a snog.

0:00:49 > 0:00:52They are the vets with The Pets Factor.

0:00:58 > 0:01:01Coming up on today's show...

0:01:01 > 0:01:04James throws a party for Derek the puppy...

0:01:04 > 0:01:07I can't quite get my head around the fact that he's already so big!

0:01:07 > 0:01:10..the gentle giant who just wants to fit in.

0:01:12 > 0:01:13Cheryl treats a tiny hamster...

0:01:13 > 0:01:16He's so cute! He doesn't bite.

0:01:16 > 0:01:17..with a big problem.

0:01:18 > 0:01:23And vet Cat needs to check over a snake who's a bit snappy.

0:01:23 > 0:01:25Apparently, if it does bite me, it won't hurt.

0:01:25 > 0:01:29I'd sort of rather it didn't bite me at all, actually. Yeah.

0:01:29 > 0:01:32First, we kick off in Bristol with James.

0:01:34 > 0:01:36If there is one thing James loves about his job,

0:01:36 > 0:01:38it's his daily dose of puppy love.

0:01:38 > 0:01:42- Oh, he's so sweet, isn't he? He's gorgeous.- He's lovely.

0:01:42 > 0:01:43I just can't resist them -

0:01:43 > 0:01:47the big eyes, soft little bellies, what is not to love?

0:01:48 > 0:01:50Sometimes they are tiny.

0:01:50 > 0:01:54Oh, look. Do you want a new home? You want to come and live with me?

0:01:54 > 0:01:57Other times, they are anything but.

0:01:57 > 0:02:00Like Derek, the nine-week-old puppy.

0:02:00 > 0:02:03Yep, that's right, he's a puppy.

0:02:03 > 0:02:05What is Derek coming in for today, do you know?

0:02:05 > 0:02:07For his vaccination.

0:02:09 > 0:02:12Derek is what's called a blue great Dane,

0:02:12 > 0:02:14the tallest breed in the world.

0:02:14 > 0:02:17But he's not really blue, that would be silly.

0:02:18 > 0:02:20It's more of a bluey grey.

0:02:20 > 0:02:24And this big pup likes to get into big mischief.

0:02:27 > 0:02:29He's very naughty sometimes.

0:02:30 > 0:02:35Sometimes he wees and poos on the wood.

0:02:37 > 0:02:38And he just did a wee.

0:02:41 > 0:02:44Derek loves to play with his owners, Carys and Ethan.

0:02:44 > 0:02:45He'll chase after you.

0:02:45 > 0:02:48And when he runs, his ears flop up, and it's adorable.

0:02:50 > 0:02:52He's already as big as a fully grown spaniel,

0:02:52 > 0:02:55and he's totally unaware of his size.

0:02:55 > 0:02:57At the moment, he's stuck indoors

0:02:57 > 0:03:01until he's had some jabs to stop him getting nasty diseases.

0:03:01 > 0:03:03- Hi there. Have you got Derek? - Come on, Derek.

0:03:06 > 0:03:09But the idea of an injection is a little too much

0:03:09 > 0:03:10for this big scaredy cat.

0:03:12 > 0:03:13Derek, what a cutie.

0:03:13 > 0:03:17He is a big lad, but he's not the bravest.

0:03:18 > 0:03:22But with a little encouragement from Dad, he's soon settled down.

0:03:22 > 0:03:24So, right, what we need to do today is obviously

0:03:24 > 0:03:26we have a really good check over - we want to listen to his heart,

0:03:26 > 0:03:29we want to make sure that everything is growing and developing as normal.

0:03:29 > 0:03:30And then once we've done that,

0:03:30 > 0:03:32we're then going to give him the vaccination.

0:03:32 > 0:03:36Shall we start with his head and we'll work our way back?

0:03:36 > 0:03:38If Derek's owners copy the basic things I've done

0:03:38 > 0:03:41in the surgery at home, he probably won't struggle the next time

0:03:41 > 0:03:46I handle him, which is good because one day he will be huge.

0:03:46 > 0:03:50So, you know, get used to looking in his mouth and/or his paws,

0:03:50 > 0:03:54and his ears, and just have a really good kind of check over every day.

0:03:54 > 0:03:55Do this at home.

0:03:55 > 0:03:58Just pretend you're at the vet's and give him a good check over, OK?

0:03:58 > 0:04:02He seems pretty chilled, but the real test is still to come.

0:04:02 > 0:04:04It's vaccination time.

0:04:04 > 0:04:07So what we're going to do is, when I give you the word,

0:04:07 > 0:04:10if you could put the treats in front of him so he's more

0:04:10 > 0:04:13interested in your treats than he is in my vaccination, OK?

0:04:13 > 0:04:16Then hopefully, he won't even notice that I'm giving him this.

0:04:16 > 0:04:18See if he wants to take your treats.

0:04:18 > 0:04:21There we go. And if you could just...hold him.

0:04:23 > 0:04:25There we go. All done!

0:04:26 > 0:04:28Look at that, he didn't even notice.

0:04:28 > 0:04:33- Can he start socialising with other dogs?- Yep, absolutely.

0:04:33 > 0:04:37So a week after today, he has got enough immunity

0:04:37 > 0:04:39that he can then start to meet other dogs and start playing out, so...

0:04:39 > 0:04:42And that's with the fun really begins cos then you can introduce

0:04:42 > 0:04:45him to your friends' dogs and you can start to have puppy parties.

0:04:45 > 0:04:49- Did you say puppy party? - I did, I did say puppy parties.

0:04:49 > 0:04:51Now, they are really cool.

0:04:51 > 0:04:54What we tend to do is we get all of the puppies in the practice

0:04:54 > 0:04:56to come into one room, and we let them all go,

0:04:56 > 0:05:00and they all just socialise and have fun and have one big...

0:05:00 > 0:05:02It is just one big party.

0:05:02 > 0:05:06Sounds amazing, and it sounds like Derek might be the star of the show.

0:05:06 > 0:05:10I'm looking forward for Derek to go to the puppy party,

0:05:10 > 0:05:13as I think he'll make lots of new friends.

0:05:20 > 0:05:23- Come on, big man. - HE LAUGHS

0:05:23 > 0:05:25Time to visit Cheryl in Essex.

0:05:26 > 0:05:29Super smiley vet Cheryl sees more than her fair share

0:05:29 > 0:05:31of teenie-weenie pets.

0:05:31 > 0:05:33I think you're going to be OK, Gaza.

0:05:33 > 0:05:36I see a lot of tiny animals, but I don't mind, I love them.

0:05:38 > 0:05:41But today, Cheryl might have her tiniest patient to date.

0:05:41 > 0:05:45This is Gilbert. Hi, Gilbert!

0:05:46 > 0:05:49Gilbert is so small, you have to look hard to find him.

0:05:51 > 0:05:55This pocket-size pet is a Russian dwarf hamster.

0:05:55 > 0:05:59RUSSIAN MUSIC

0:05:59 > 0:06:01And when he isn't RUSSIAN around,

0:06:01 > 0:06:05he's usually shovelling grub into his cheeky little chops.

0:06:05 > 0:06:09But lately, this little guy has developed a big problem

0:06:09 > 0:06:13on his jaw, so he's wheelie keen to see vet Cheryl.

0:06:16 > 0:06:17He's so cute. He doesn't bite.

0:06:17 > 0:06:20Look, he is genuinely the nicest...

0:06:20 > 0:06:21Look at you.

0:06:21 > 0:06:25Aw. This little lump's just grown on his side

0:06:25 > 0:06:28in the past three weeks and now it is kind of uncomfortable,

0:06:28 > 0:06:30so we're going to try and remove it.

0:06:30 > 0:06:31The lump is growing fast.

0:06:31 > 0:06:34Gilbert is going to need emergency surgery.

0:06:34 > 0:06:36It's quite risky and quite a big surgery

0:06:36 > 0:06:38for such a tiny little hamster.

0:06:38 > 0:06:40And if we don't do something,

0:06:40 > 0:06:44he'll probably have to be put to sleep.

0:06:44 > 0:06:45Because Gilbert is so tiny,

0:06:45 > 0:06:49he can't be injected with a measured anaesthetic like a dog or a cat.

0:06:49 > 0:06:53So the best option for Cheryl and Nurse Nick is to place him

0:06:53 > 0:06:58inside a dog's facemask and fill it with anaesthetic gas.

0:06:58 > 0:07:00I'm sorry, mate. It's for your own good. It's OK.

0:07:00 > 0:07:02Poor Gilbert.

0:07:02 > 0:07:03He doesn't know what's going on,

0:07:03 > 0:07:07but this really is the safest way to get him under anaesthetic.

0:07:08 > 0:07:10Now Gilbert is in dreamland,

0:07:10 > 0:07:14Nurse Nick has to carefully shave off the fur around the lump,

0:07:14 > 0:07:17but it's difficult when the clippers are bigger than the patient.

0:07:17 > 0:07:19He is very cute. He is definitely

0:07:19 > 0:07:22one of the cutest hamsters we've ever had here.

0:07:22 > 0:07:24Gilbert is so friendly.

0:07:24 > 0:07:26And I know he's not showing that this lump is bothering him,

0:07:26 > 0:07:28but I bet he's in pain.

0:07:28 > 0:07:31If this lump was on a human, it would be the size of a football,

0:07:31 > 0:07:34a big football.

0:07:34 > 0:07:38Cheryl has no time to waste and is ready to cut off that nasty lump.

0:07:38 > 0:07:40That is the huge lump, look at it.

0:07:40 > 0:07:42If it grew much bigger, then it would be impossible to remove.

0:07:42 > 0:07:45I must admit, I'm a little bit nervous.

0:07:45 > 0:07:50Gilbert could be one of the smallest pets I've ever operated on.

0:07:50 > 0:07:53Even the tiny blood vessels, we have to be careful that they don't

0:07:53 > 0:07:58bleed because a little bit of blood is a huge amount for a hamster.

0:07:58 > 0:08:01Squawk! If you're squeamish, look away now.

0:08:04 > 0:08:06The huge lump is almost off,

0:08:06 > 0:08:08but Gilbert is not out of danger yet.

0:08:08 > 0:08:10Because we can't control the aesthetic,

0:08:10 > 0:08:12we just want to be as quick as possible.

0:08:16 > 0:08:19Stay with us as Cheryl needs a steady hand to help Gilbert

0:08:19 > 0:08:21through his major surgery.

0:08:21 > 0:08:23It's really, really, really hard to stitch the skin

0:08:23 > 0:08:24because it's so paper thin.

0:08:26 > 0:08:28And it's party time as Derek the great Dane

0:08:28 > 0:08:30meets some new friends.

0:08:30 > 0:08:34It's organised chaos is what I'm going to say.

0:08:34 > 0:08:36Oh, yeah!

0:08:36 > 0:08:39Next, we're in Sheffield with vet Cat.

0:08:41 > 0:08:44Tauser! Come on in.

0:08:44 > 0:08:46Blade, please.

0:08:47 > 0:08:52She's got bags of experience dealing with all kinds of wild

0:08:52 > 0:08:53and wacky pets.

0:08:54 > 0:08:56But some days, a job comes in

0:08:56 > 0:08:59that takes even this cool and calm vet by surprise.

0:08:59 > 0:09:02Guys, you'll never guess what I've got to see later on today.

0:09:04 > 0:09:07Four rats and two rat snakes.

0:09:07 > 0:09:08No way.

0:09:08 > 0:09:12Apparently, one of these snakes does like to bite, but luckily,

0:09:12 > 0:09:14they have very small teeth and they are not venomous,

0:09:14 > 0:09:17so apparently if it does bite me, it won't hurt.

0:09:17 > 0:09:21But I'd sort of rather it didn't bite me at all, actually. Yeah.

0:09:23 > 0:09:25The owners, Chloe and Jennifer, arrive in reception.

0:09:25 > 0:09:27- Hello.- What have you got there?

0:09:27 > 0:09:30Cat won't have to wait long before she finds out.

0:09:30 > 0:09:33- We've got Ajax and Anya, the two snakes.- OK.

0:09:33 > 0:09:35- And...- Four rats. - Four rats in there.

0:09:35 > 0:09:38And then how old are your rats? Are they baby rats, big rats?

0:09:38 > 0:09:4012 weeks old.

0:09:40 > 0:09:41What a combination of pets!

0:09:41 > 0:09:44Snakes will happily gobble up a rat for lunch.

0:09:44 > 0:09:46And they're such slippery customers!

0:09:46 > 0:09:49It would be a total disaster if any of them escaped.

0:09:51 > 0:09:54All six pets are booked in today for a health check.

0:09:54 > 0:09:55I hope they are well trained.

0:09:55 > 0:09:57We've only had the rats for a little while,

0:09:57 > 0:10:00so they're not really well handled yet, but they're good.

0:10:00 > 0:10:02They're getting there.

0:10:02 > 0:10:04But it is Ajax, the naughty snake in the box,

0:10:04 > 0:10:05who's worrying them most.

0:10:05 > 0:10:07He's really easily stressed out.

0:10:07 > 0:10:10I've got a horrible feeling he might bite somebody today.

0:10:10 > 0:10:14I'm hoping that he doesn't, but I think that he might, yeah,

0:10:14 > 0:10:16cos he likes to be very snappy.

0:10:16 > 0:10:19Time to call in the reinforcements.

0:10:19 > 0:10:21Ashley, could you come and give me a hand, please?

0:10:21 > 0:10:24I think we're going to need an extra pair. Thank you.

0:10:24 > 0:10:27Right then, what shall we have a look at first? Rats or snakes?

0:10:27 > 0:10:30- What do you think?- Snakes, otherwise the snakes are going to smell

0:10:30 > 0:10:32- the rats on us.- That's true.

0:10:32 > 0:10:35We don't want the snakes to think that we're lunch, do we? No.

0:10:35 > 0:10:38First up is the friendly snake, Anya.

0:10:38 > 0:10:42Where are you? Where are you?

0:10:43 > 0:10:47Oh, look how beautiful you are.

0:10:47 > 0:10:49Rat snakes can grow up to a metre in length,

0:10:49 > 0:10:52but thankfully, Anya is a tiddler.

0:10:52 > 0:10:54So she's got beautiful, shiny scales

0:10:54 > 0:10:56and bright, open eyes.

0:10:56 > 0:10:58She has got quite a tongue on her!

0:10:58 > 0:11:00That's quite a long one.

0:11:00 > 0:11:04Next up is the snappy happy Ajax.

0:11:04 > 0:11:07And according to Ashley, the signs aren't good.

0:11:07 > 0:11:11So because they are bending the head in an S shape,

0:11:11 > 0:11:13it's a striking pose,

0:11:13 > 0:11:14when they're a bit nervous

0:11:14 > 0:11:16and they're not quite sure of the situation.

0:11:16 > 0:11:20Everyone, including Ajax, seems a little nervous,

0:11:20 > 0:11:22so Jen handles him with care.

0:11:22 > 0:11:24Much better than when I first got him.

0:11:24 > 0:11:26He'd be attacking your hand. I used to wear gloves, didn't I?

0:11:26 > 0:11:29I still do sometimes when I'm getting him out, I put gloves on.

0:11:29 > 0:11:31That's OK, cos we don't need to,

0:11:31 > 0:11:32cos we can see most things from where we are.

0:11:32 > 0:11:34So, see, he can hold his head.

0:11:34 > 0:11:35Look at the strength he's got in his neck.

0:11:35 > 0:11:38He's lovely.

0:11:38 > 0:11:41I'm really glad Anya and Ajax are looking so healthy

0:11:41 > 0:11:43because that means we can put them away.

0:11:44 > 0:11:48Having rattled through the rat snakes, it's time for the rats.

0:11:48 > 0:11:50You're a speedy one. Hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on.

0:11:50 > 0:11:54- And they are even more slippery than the snakes.- Calm down.

0:11:57 > 0:11:59They're better than they were, believe it or not.

0:11:59 > 0:12:01Oh, my goodness, oh, my...

0:12:01 > 0:12:05Blimey! It's OK. It's OK, it's OK.

0:12:05 > 0:12:07These guys are wriggling all over the place, which is

0:12:07 > 0:12:10a nightmare for me, but it's great news for them

0:12:10 > 0:12:12because it means that they are really healthy.

0:12:12 > 0:12:16They're all absolutely fine, totally fine, no concerns there at all.

0:12:16 > 0:12:18Job done. It's time for the pets

0:12:18 > 0:12:21and their owners to start snaking their way home.

0:12:27 > 0:12:29Yeah, I'm talking to you.

0:12:29 > 0:12:33Back to Bristol now with vet James and Derek the great Dane.

0:12:35 > 0:12:39Now he's growing up, he's had his final vaccination,

0:12:39 > 0:12:42so this mischief-loving pup can make some new friends.

0:12:44 > 0:12:49So James and Lily are throwing him the best kind of party ever -

0:12:49 > 0:12:51a party for puppies.

0:12:51 > 0:12:53It sounds like we are going to turn all the lights off,

0:12:53 > 0:12:55a big disco ball, puppies with sunglasses on.

0:12:55 > 0:12:57We're going to get everybody in who's got puppies at the moment,

0:12:57 > 0:13:00and it's a really good way of getting them to socialise,

0:13:00 > 0:13:02but more than anything, it's just a chance to have

0:13:02 > 0:13:04an afternoon playing with puppies, really.

0:13:04 > 0:13:05It's brilliant!

0:13:05 > 0:13:07I love the puppy parties.

0:13:07 > 0:13:09We have them every week in the practice,

0:13:09 > 0:13:13and they are such a lovely break from all the poorly animals.

0:13:13 > 0:13:17Puppies Bertie, Beau and Molly can't wait to get this party started.

0:13:17 > 0:13:22And the biggest name on the guest list is about to make his debut.

0:13:23 > 0:13:26Believe it or not, Derek is the same age as all the other pups,

0:13:26 > 0:13:28and he is already twice their size.

0:13:28 > 0:13:30This could be fun!

0:13:30 > 0:13:34I can't quite get my head around the fact that he's already so big!

0:13:34 > 0:13:36He's already the size of my Lab!

0:13:36 > 0:13:40He's huge all right, but he seems to be a hit with his new pals already.

0:13:40 > 0:13:43So pleased to see him with the rest of the puppies.

0:13:43 > 0:13:46Obviously, we've just got to be careful because his paws

0:13:46 > 0:13:50weigh so much, and he weighs a tonne if he treads on one of them.

0:13:52 > 0:13:56Derek is such a gentle giant, but he has no idea how big he is.

0:13:56 > 0:13:58I reckon those other dogs will tell him

0:13:58 > 0:14:00if he plays too rough. He'll soon learn.

0:14:00 > 0:14:02BARKING

0:14:03 > 0:14:06If we swap Beau and Derek, and then Molly and Derek, shall we try that?

0:14:07 > 0:14:10As well as having a ball, it's also helping him

0:14:10 > 0:14:12get used to other people and new environments.

0:14:12 > 0:14:15It's all about making sure the puppies realise that

0:14:15 > 0:14:17actually coming to the vet's isn't that scary,

0:14:17 > 0:14:19so then, as they grow up, they just end up thinking

0:14:19 > 0:14:21this is just a great place to come

0:14:21 > 0:14:24and they can't wait to get through the door. It's brilliant.

0:14:24 > 0:14:27And for these pups, it's just the best fun in the world.

0:14:31 > 0:14:35It's organised chaos is what I'm going to say.

0:14:35 > 0:14:36It's about them exploring

0:14:36 > 0:14:38and learning how to interact with each other,

0:14:38 > 0:14:42you know, in a safe environment. And this is exactly what it is.

0:14:42 > 0:14:43It's great.

0:14:43 > 0:14:46Who am I kidding? This is absolute chaos!

0:14:46 > 0:14:49And after the excitement of the big wide world,

0:14:49 > 0:14:52this big lad will certainly sleep tonight.

0:14:59 > 0:15:01Excuse me, will you come down, please?

0:15:01 > 0:15:04Let's go back to Essex to the Cheryl and Gilbert.

0:15:05 > 0:15:08This little guy is having a big operation to get

0:15:08 > 0:15:09rid of a nasty growth.

0:15:09 > 0:15:13Now it's kind of uncomfortable, so we're going to try and remove it.

0:15:13 > 0:15:17Gilbert the Russian dwarf hamster has a huge lump on the side

0:15:17 > 0:15:20of his head that has been growing for three weeks.

0:15:22 > 0:15:23And now that she's taken off the lump,

0:15:23 > 0:15:27Cheryl needs a steady hand to quickly close Gilbert's wound.

0:15:27 > 0:15:30It's really, really, really hard to stitch the skin because it's

0:15:30 > 0:15:34so paper-thin. So I use the tiniest stitches.

0:15:36 > 0:15:41She's done it. But this has been major surgery for this little guy.

0:15:41 > 0:15:44The next few minutes are critical.

0:15:44 > 0:15:46Please wake up, little hammy.

0:15:46 > 0:15:48Come on, Gilbert!

0:15:50 > 0:15:51You can do it!

0:15:53 > 0:15:56- Oops.- There we go. Hey!

0:15:56 > 0:15:57I'm so glad he's awake.

0:15:59 > 0:16:02Now we just have to make sure he recovers well.

0:16:02 > 0:16:05Gilbert wakes up to a biscuit the size of his head.

0:16:05 > 0:16:07Wonder if he still thinks he's dreaming.

0:16:07 > 0:16:10That's it, have a nice bite of that, get your sugar up.

0:16:10 > 0:16:13I'm really pleased that Gilbert is alive and eating his cookie,

0:16:13 > 0:16:15and I'm copying him.

0:16:16 > 0:16:19We're only letting him have that biscuit cos he's had a big

0:16:19 > 0:16:22operation, but it really gets your energy levels up.

0:16:26 > 0:16:29It's been a really big day for tiny Gilbert, but he's already

0:16:29 > 0:16:33looking happier and giving himself a big good post-op clean.

0:16:33 > 0:16:34It's time for Gilbert to go home.

0:16:34 > 0:16:38I think his owners are really excited to have him back. Yes?

0:16:38 > 0:16:40Are you going to be happy to go home?

0:16:40 > 0:16:42He's a very, very brave hamster.

0:16:44 > 0:16:48Yes, you're going to have that blanket tonight.

0:16:48 > 0:16:49He's such a good boy.

0:16:49 > 0:16:55Gilbert, the happiest hamster. Aren't you? So cute.

0:16:57 > 0:16:59Two days after the operation,

0:16:59 > 0:17:02Gilbert and his owners, Jake and Mikey,

0:17:02 > 0:17:03have come back to see Cheryl.

0:17:06 > 0:17:08Hello, handsome boys. So how did he recover?

0:17:08 > 0:17:10I was a bit worried on the first night

0:17:10 > 0:17:14- cos he was just really, really quiet, I suppose.- Yeah, very tired.

0:17:14 > 0:17:17By the second day, like yesterday, he was fine, he was back to himself.

0:17:17 > 0:17:19He was running around the cage being...

0:17:19 > 0:17:22- Being his normal cheeky chap.- Yeah.

0:17:22 > 0:17:25- He is officially the nicest hamster...- Oh, really?

0:17:25 > 0:17:27- Yeah. ..on our books. He really is. - Oh, sweet!

0:17:27 > 0:17:30He's so friendly, he doesn't bite even when he's in pain...

0:17:30 > 0:17:33Oh, are you nipping on my finger to prove me wrong?

0:17:33 > 0:17:35Yeah, you shouldn't say that.

0:17:35 > 0:17:37- His wound looks amazing.- Yeah, he keeps trying to scratch it.

0:17:37 > 0:17:39Scratching is OK, but chewing isn't,

0:17:39 > 0:17:41because then he can pull the stitches out.

0:17:41 > 0:17:43And even though it looks amazing now,

0:17:43 > 0:17:46it will take ten to 14 days to heal.

0:17:46 > 0:17:48- Oh, OK.- So, so far, so good.

0:17:50 > 0:17:53Oh! I just can't cope with how cute Gilbert is.

0:17:53 > 0:17:56Do you like me? Yes.

0:17:56 > 0:17:59- He's, like, so small and so brave. - Yeah, I know.

0:18:01 > 0:18:04Hopefully, his hair will grow back and he'll be good as new.

0:18:04 > 0:18:06So thank you for your help.

0:18:06 > 0:18:09- No worries. It's a dodgy haircut he's got, isn't it?- Yeah.

0:18:13 > 0:18:17Hey. Gilbert, what a cute little hamster.

0:18:17 > 0:18:21And you're a little cutie too, aren't you? Hello.

0:18:21 > 0:18:24But I do know someone who isn't so little - Derek the great Dane.

0:18:24 > 0:18:26Derek!

0:18:26 > 0:18:28Here, boy!

0:18:28 > 0:18:30Three months later, he's still growing.

0:18:32 > 0:18:35And he's full of energy.

0:18:35 > 0:18:37Derek has become a big part of the family.

0:18:37 > 0:18:39A really big part of the family.

0:18:39 > 0:18:41Bigger and bigger every day, isn't he?

0:18:41 > 0:18:44And his size means if he doesn't want to do something,

0:18:44 > 0:18:46it's tricky to make him.

0:18:46 > 0:18:48Shall we measure him, see how big he is?

0:18:55 > 0:18:59So who knows exactly how big he is, let's just call him extra,

0:18:59 > 0:19:02extra, extra large and leave it at that.

0:19:05 > 0:19:07Next time on The Pets Factor...

0:19:07 > 0:19:11Cheryl operates on an abandoned kitten in need of a home.

0:19:11 > 0:19:13Hello, Trinity. Isn't she cute?

0:19:13 > 0:19:15Aw! Trinity...

0:19:17 > 0:19:20And James gets training with some potential canine champions.

0:19:20 > 0:19:23Cor, my heart's really going, I really feel... I'm feeling

0:19:23 > 0:19:25the pressure that I've got to achieve.
