0:00:02 > 0:00:06These teenage racers aren't old enough to drive on the roads.
0:00:06 > 0:00:10I'm 15 years old, driving race cars. There's nothing better than that.
0:00:10 > 0:00:13As soon as the engine starts, your mind's in gear.
0:00:14 > 0:00:17But at the weekends, they tear up the track...
0:00:17 > 0:00:20COMMENTATOR: He's through on the inside track, into fourth place.
0:00:20 > 0:00:21Come on!
0:00:23 > 0:00:26This season, two teams go head-to-head...
0:00:26 > 0:00:30COMMENTATOR: To the chequered flag! Two out of two!
0:00:30 > 0:00:32One is brother and sister...
0:00:32 > 0:00:36We're both competitive and we both want to beat each other.
0:00:38 > 0:00:40The other, a team of mates...
0:00:40 > 0:00:44- We always want to win. - Racing's my dream.
0:00:44 > 0:00:49It's a tough fight... and we'll be with them all the way.
0:00:49 > 0:00:53Expect the unexpected! There's no guarantees in this sport.
0:00:53 > 0:00:56So who will be crowned winner of The Racing Set?
0:00:56 > 0:00:59None of my school friends are doing anything as cool as this!
0:01:02 > 0:01:04Last time on The Racing Set...
0:01:04 > 0:01:07One-to-watch Jamie hit the buffers.
0:01:07 > 0:01:09COMMENTATOR: Oh, my goodness!
0:01:09 > 0:01:12Being the only girl in the championship makes me feel like
0:01:12 > 0:01:14I should be doing a lot better because I am a girl.
0:01:14 > 0:01:18New boy James had to face how much his sport was costing his family.
0:01:18 > 0:01:21You know what Mum and I are having to go through to put you out there.
0:01:21 > 0:01:25It's so important for us to get this sponsor on board.
0:01:25 > 0:01:28But James went on to win the Rookie Cup.
0:01:28 > 0:01:30I don't really know what to say, to be honest.
0:01:30 > 0:01:34I'm quite excited and happy, you know! Emotional wreck!
0:01:36 > 0:01:39Today, our racing rivals hit the fastest track in the UK.
0:01:39 > 0:01:43It's so scary, you have to hang on for dear life!
0:01:43 > 0:01:45COMMENTATOR: What a great bit of driving!
0:01:45 > 0:01:48And the competition hots up between brother and sister.
0:01:48 > 0:01:50Any racing driver will want to win, especially
0:01:50 > 0:01:52if you're racing against your brother.
0:01:52 > 0:01:55You're going to have even more sibling rivalry.
0:01:55 > 0:01:58So who's tough enough to triumph on this track?
0:01:58 > 0:02:02If you're successful in sport, there is pressure. It comes with the job.
0:02:24 > 0:02:25It's early morning
0:02:25 > 0:02:29and Ollie is doing a safety check on the helicopter he's flying today.
0:02:29 > 0:02:31It's this 17-year-old's other big passion.
0:02:31 > 0:02:34First thing I do is drain a little bit of fuel in case there's
0:02:34 > 0:02:36a bit of water.
0:02:36 > 0:02:38And then mainly looking at the check list,
0:02:38 > 0:02:41just checking everything's in working order.
0:02:41 > 0:02:44Ollie started learning to fly when he was 14.
0:02:44 > 0:02:45Two years later,
0:02:45 > 0:02:48he became the youngest person in the world to fly a jet helicopter solo.
0:02:48 > 0:02:52I've done four of the exams and there's three more to go.
0:02:52 > 0:02:57That means I'm qualified to fly when I like in this helicopter.
0:02:57 > 0:02:59So it's good, yeah.
0:02:59 > 0:03:02Ollie is taking to the skies with Ray, his instructor,
0:03:02 > 0:03:05to clear his head before the start of this weekend's racing.
0:03:09 > 0:03:12Just up the road at her school is his 15-year-old sister
0:03:12 > 0:03:14and team-mate, Jamie.
0:03:14 > 0:03:18She is taking a break from racing with best friend, Yvie.
0:03:18 > 0:03:22Jamie won her first hockey cup when she was just 11 and recently,
0:03:22 > 0:03:25she's had to choose between the two sports that she loves.
0:03:29 > 0:03:33- I'm quite tired after that!- Yeah! You're really good at hockey!
0:03:33 > 0:03:37- I reckon you could play for England! - Yeah.- You'd rather go racing!
0:03:37 > 0:03:39I know, it's definitely a tough decision to choose between racing
0:03:39 > 0:03:41and hockey. Because I do really enjoy it.
0:03:41 > 0:03:43Even though it's hard and everything
0:03:43 > 0:03:45and I'm under pressure competing against my brother,
0:03:45 > 0:03:48I still think it's definitely what I want to do and, yeah,
0:03:48 > 0:03:51just got to put the hard work in to make it worthwhile.
0:03:51 > 0:03:52Any racing driver wants to win.
0:03:52 > 0:03:55And I think especially if you're racing against your brother.
0:03:55 > 0:03:58You're going to have even more sibling rivalry.
0:03:58 > 0:04:02So when I come on the hockey pitch, I just think I want to win even more.
0:04:08 > 0:04:11It's the start of the racing weekend at Thruxton
0:04:11 > 0:04:13and Jamie's main rookie rival James is here
0:04:13 > 0:04:16with his team-mates Harry and Will.
0:04:16 > 0:04:21With Harry winning their last race and James coming second,
0:04:21 > 0:04:23the team are competitive on and off the track.
0:04:23 > 0:04:26INDISTINCT CHATTER
0:04:26 > 0:04:28Oh, what?!
0:04:30 > 0:04:33James has recently joined the team
0:04:33 > 0:04:35and it's his first time at this difficult track.
0:04:35 > 0:04:38It's very hard because it's so fast.
0:04:38 > 0:04:40It's one of the scariest circuits in Britain.
0:04:40 > 0:04:43The Thruxton track has no sharp corners
0:04:43 > 0:04:46so the cars here can get up to incredible speeds.
0:04:46 > 0:04:48Cars want to slide all the time.
0:04:48 > 0:04:51It's so scary. You have to hang on for dear life.
0:04:51 > 0:04:54A track as tricky as this
0:04:54 > 0:04:58only adds to the anxiety for James and his mum and dad.
0:04:58 > 0:05:00It's James's first year
0:05:00 > 0:05:04and coming off the back of a second on the podium at Donington,
0:05:04 > 0:05:07it's put us under a lot of pressure as a family
0:05:07 > 0:05:10because I think we're all expecting him to be extremely quick now.
0:05:12 > 0:05:16Also hoping to put on a good show today is Team Chadwick.
0:05:16 > 0:05:20After crashing out in her previous race, Jamie is putting
0:05:20 > 0:05:22a brave face on things.
0:05:22 > 0:05:25I think it's impossible to predict what's going to happen.
0:05:25 > 0:05:29Not only am I getting faster, but everyone else is getting faster too.
0:05:29 > 0:05:34I've just got to look forward to it rather than be scared of it.
0:05:34 > 0:05:37As the first girl to get a Ginetta Junior Scholarship,
0:05:37 > 0:05:40Jamie has a lot to live up to,
0:05:40 > 0:05:42and she's being helped on her way by team coach Chris.
0:05:42 > 0:05:46I think, quite seriously, that Jamie Chadwick
0:05:46 > 0:05:49is totally capable of being a Formula 1 driver.
0:05:49 > 0:05:52Of that I've got no doubt whatsoever.
0:05:52 > 0:05:55Jamie really needs to get ahead of James in today's races.
0:05:55 > 0:05:58As the first race begins,
0:05:58 > 0:06:01everyone wants to get to the front.
0:06:01 > 0:06:04For all eight rookie drivers in this championship,
0:06:04 > 0:06:07racing on the fastest track in the country
0:06:07 > 0:06:08is no mean feat.
0:06:08 > 0:06:12Some of the instructors won't even go out with the youngsters
0:06:12 > 0:06:14at Thruxton because it's so scary and lairy.
0:06:14 > 0:06:18The race is over and the results are in.
0:06:22 > 0:06:26But this difficult track has got the better of Jamie.
0:06:26 > 0:06:29Unfortunately, I tried a little too hard too early and spun out.
0:06:29 > 0:06:31That really put me on the back foot,
0:06:31 > 0:06:35meaning I couldn't get a decent time down, so...not great at all.
0:06:35 > 0:06:39These knockbacks are just par for the course in racing.
0:06:39 > 0:06:42But back at home, her brother Ollie is always on hand
0:06:42 > 0:06:44to help her chill out.
0:06:46 > 0:06:49- Are you scared of anything, Ollie? - Snakes, I don't like snakes.
0:06:49 > 0:06:51I agree with you there.
0:06:51 > 0:06:54One thing we can agree on.
0:06:54 > 0:06:58This racing simulator might be one of their favourite toys,
0:06:58 > 0:07:00but it's more than just a game.
0:07:00 > 0:07:04It's a good way to practise away from the pressures of the track.
0:07:04 > 0:07:08It's hard to learn from your siblings or parents.
0:07:08 > 0:07:11Like, my dad was trying to teach Ollie with flying, and things,
0:07:11 > 0:07:15and it was hard, cos you're able to doubt what he says
0:07:15 > 0:07:18just because it's family.
0:07:18 > 0:07:21But he's been trying to help me out
0:07:21 > 0:07:24and I've just got to take the advice and listen to everything he says
0:07:24 > 0:07:27because he knows what he's talking about.
0:07:30 > 0:07:31My go! You crashed.
0:07:31 > 0:07:34Over at his home in Yorkshire,
0:07:34 > 0:07:37James is also getting in some off-track training.
0:07:37 > 0:07:40This is how I get to learn the track
0:07:40 > 0:07:43and get to learn the lines before I go to a race meeting.
0:07:43 > 0:07:46He can't visit the track to test-drive in person
0:07:46 > 0:07:49as much as he'd want to, unlike his team-mates.
0:07:49 > 0:07:53I think other people get to do a little bit more testing than me
0:07:53 > 0:07:57because my mum and dad are struggling for money a bit at the minute,
0:07:57 > 0:08:01and to get all the testing in as well, it costs a lot of money.
0:08:01 > 0:08:04If I do come off and crash my car,
0:08:04 > 0:08:07my team will be annoyed and my dad will be annoyed
0:08:07 > 0:08:10because they'll have to pay for it to get it fixed, and stuff.
0:08:10 > 0:08:14James will have to drive carefully on the Thruxton track
0:08:14 > 0:08:16to protect his £30,000 car.
0:08:17 > 0:08:19It's race day for everyone,
0:08:19 > 0:08:22and James's dad is also keenly aware
0:08:22 > 0:08:26that any damage done today could cost the family dear.
0:08:26 > 0:08:29He knows there isn't a tree at the bottom of the garden
0:08:29 > 0:08:32that we can go and just pick money off. The brick wall is looming.
0:08:32 > 0:08:35Over in the Chadwicks' camp,
0:08:35 > 0:08:39Ollie's team are putting the finishing touches to his car.
0:08:40 > 0:08:43Just before a race can be a nerve-racking time for the family.
0:08:43 > 0:08:47We're both competitive and we both want to beat each other,
0:08:47 > 0:08:50but at the end of the day, if one of us doesn't do as well,
0:08:50 > 0:08:53we're both down about it and it does affect us.
0:08:53 > 0:08:57Moments before any race is a tense time for everyone.
0:08:57 > 0:08:59I hope that they're nervous.
0:08:59 > 0:09:02They need to have a certain amount of nervous tension in them.
0:09:02 > 0:09:05To be competitive, you need to be that way.
0:09:05 > 0:09:08It's not a walk in the park. It is a lot of pressure.
0:09:08 > 0:09:11That's part of being a racing driver.
0:09:11 > 0:09:13That's part of anything.
0:09:13 > 0:09:16If you're successful in sport, there is pressure. It comes with the job.
0:09:16 > 0:09:20They are all lined up and ready to go.
0:09:20 > 0:09:22So the guys about to get under way here
0:09:22 > 0:09:24for the weekend here at Thruxton.
0:09:24 > 0:09:28Great conditions, which everybody's revelling in.
0:09:28 > 0:09:31But as the cars fly off, James falters.
0:09:31 > 0:09:35Before he's even begun, his car is now at the back of the pack.
0:09:35 > 0:09:39This could cost him the race.
0:09:40 > 0:09:42Chadwick on the outside in yellow.
0:09:42 > 0:09:44That's going to convert to the inside here.
0:09:44 > 0:09:47Meanwhile, Ollie's in a healthy third place.
0:09:47 > 0:09:51He's chasing James's team-mate Harry, who's in the lead.
0:09:51 > 0:09:54Jamie is steadily moving up the ranks
0:09:54 > 0:09:56despite starting at the back herself.
0:09:59 > 0:10:01There's Kellett down towards the back of the field
0:10:01 > 0:10:03with a fair bit of work to do.
0:10:03 > 0:10:06James is still desperately trying to claw back places
0:10:06 > 0:10:09after his terrible mistake at the start.
0:10:09 > 0:10:12Ollie has settled into the lead group
0:10:12 > 0:10:15along with Harry and Will, James's team-mates.
0:10:15 > 0:10:17But Will is spinning off,
0:10:17 > 0:10:21his car forms an obstacle on the track and somehow,
0:10:21 > 0:10:23Ollie misses him.
0:10:23 > 0:10:25What a great bit of driving by Ollie Chadwick!
0:10:25 > 0:10:30Ollie's experience and skill have saved him from a nasty crash.
0:10:30 > 0:10:34And this gives Jamie the chance she's looking for
0:10:34 > 0:10:35to get ahead.
0:10:35 > 0:10:39Jamie Chadwick in blue 55 has gone ahead of her brother...
0:10:39 > 0:10:42But her advantage over Ollie doesn't last long.
0:10:42 > 0:10:46Ollie's making a good recovery. Got ahead of his sister.
0:10:46 > 0:10:47He'll be pleased with that.
0:10:47 > 0:10:51And out of nowhere, James is on her tail.
0:10:51 > 0:10:53Then he quickly overtakes her...
0:10:55 > 0:10:57It's tough for all of them
0:10:57 > 0:11:00on the fastest track in the country.
0:11:00 > 0:11:02Ohh!
0:11:02 > 0:11:04Jack Rawles just loses the back of the thing.
0:11:04 > 0:11:07As one of the cars spins off the track,
0:11:07 > 0:11:11it gets in the way of Jamie and she crashes straight into it.
0:11:11 > 0:11:13It's a nightmare for her,
0:11:13 > 0:11:16with her bonnet so damaged that she can barely see
0:11:16 > 0:11:18she has to bow out.
0:11:21 > 0:11:24Up ahead, Ollie is still in.
0:11:24 > 0:11:27But suddenly, something seems to go wrong.
0:11:27 > 0:11:31Chadwick has a problem. Ollie Chadwick is suddenly slow.
0:11:31 > 0:11:33A power failure in his car means
0:11:33 > 0:11:37his fight for a place on the podium is over.
0:11:37 > 0:11:41The unstoppable Harry goes on to take first place
0:11:41 > 0:11:44and James has made an incredible recovery and comes fifth.
0:11:46 > 0:11:48Despite missing the start,
0:11:48 > 0:11:51James has bagged himself yet another rookie cup.
0:11:51 > 0:11:54But the result couldn't be worse for Jamie.
0:11:54 > 0:11:57There's the disappointed Jamie Chadwick
0:11:57 > 0:12:00after rear-ending Jack Rawles. We see so many incidents happening
0:12:00 > 0:12:02at the chicane here at Thruxton,
0:12:02 > 0:12:05but Jamie's a tough racer. She'll be back to have a go.
0:12:05 > 0:12:09A crash with another driver has knocked her for six.
0:12:09 > 0:12:13Really quite disappointed with how it's all gone.
0:12:13 > 0:12:18Unfortunately, Jack Rawles spun coming out of the chicane
0:12:18 > 0:12:21and rejoined the track in front of me
0:12:21 > 0:12:24and I had nowhere to go other than into him,
0:12:24 > 0:12:28so I had to retire, so it's really devastating.
0:12:28 > 0:12:34And Ollie and his team are just glad he's got back to base in one piece.
0:12:36 > 0:12:40But James and his mum and dad are celebrating his triumph.
0:12:40 > 0:12:43A great drive, James. Fantastic.
0:12:43 > 0:12:46It's been a big success for James's team all round,
0:12:46 > 0:12:49as Harry and Will take first and third places.
0:12:49 > 0:12:54James has beaten seven other rookies to take the rookie cup again.
0:12:54 > 0:12:56He almost can't believe his luck.
0:12:56 > 0:12:59I had the worst start I could have possibly had, really.
0:12:59 > 0:13:01I dropped back to last
0:13:01 > 0:13:04and then I was able to get my way back through to fifth,
0:13:04 > 0:13:05which is unbelievable.
0:13:05 > 0:13:08It was a dogfight out there, absolutely crazy.
0:13:08 > 0:13:12Setbacks are difficult for every driver,
0:13:12 > 0:13:15but Jamie always tries to stay focused.
0:13:15 > 0:13:18The biggest aspect of it is just moving on
0:13:18 > 0:13:22and keeping a fresh mind and keeping positive for the next race.
0:13:27 > 0:13:30Next time - James is on top of the world...
0:13:30 > 0:13:33- Unbelievable. - ..whilst Jamie hits rock bottom.
0:13:33 > 0:13:36I've lost a bit of confidence.
0:13:36 > 0:13:38And with the weather against them,
0:13:38 > 0:13:41they all face their greatest challenge yet.
0:13:41 > 0:13:44The car can be repaired, but I can't.
