0:00:02 > 0:00:07These teenage racers aren't old enough to drive on the roads...

0:00:07 > 0:00:11I'm 15 years old, driving race cars, there's nothing better than that.

0:00:11 > 0:00:13As soon as the engine starts, your mind's in gear.

0:00:15 > 0:00:17But, at the weekends, they tear up the track.

0:00:17 > 0:00:19COMMENTATOR: He's through on the inside,

0:00:19 > 0:00:20Chadwick up into fourth place!

0:00:23 > 0:00:26This season, two teams go head-to-head.

0:00:26 > 0:00:29COMMENTATOR: To the track and flag, two out of two!

0:00:30 > 0:00:33One is brother and sister...

0:00:33 > 0:00:37We're both competitive and we both want to beat each other.

0:00:38 > 0:00:43- The other, a team of mates. - OK, all of us are going to win.

0:00:43 > 0:00:45Racing's my dream.

0:00:45 > 0:00:49It's a tough fight, and we'll be with them all the way.

0:00:49 > 0:00:53Expect the unexpected. There's no guarantees in this sport.

0:00:53 > 0:00:56So, who will be crowned winner of The Racing Set?

0:00:56 > 0:00:59None of my school friends are doing anything as cool as this.

0:01:04 > 0:01:06Previously on The Racing Set...

0:01:06 > 0:01:10Ollie's riding high after a decent start to his season,

0:01:10 > 0:01:13but his sister, Jamie, is reeling after crashing out.

0:01:14 > 0:01:17COMMENTATOR: There's the disappointed Jamie Chadwick.

0:01:17 > 0:01:20It's really...just devastating.

0:01:22 > 0:01:26Golden boy, James, is still top rookie in the pack.

0:01:26 > 0:01:30It was like a dogfight out there. It was absolutely crazy.

0:01:30 > 0:01:32But, cash worries are never far from his mind.

0:01:32 > 0:01:35I've always got that thing in the back of my head...

0:01:35 > 0:01:38Bring the car home with no scratches or it'll cost my mum and dad.

0:01:38 > 0:01:41You know, there isn't a tree at the bottom of the garden

0:01:41 > 0:01:43that we can go and pick money off of.

0:01:43 > 0:01:44The brick wall is looming.

0:01:46 > 0:01:49Today, the weather turns against them.

0:01:49 > 0:01:51COMMENTATOR: Oh, that is a big hit!

0:01:51 > 0:01:55It's a day of drama on the track. Who can stay the course?

0:01:55 > 0:01:57The car can be repaired, but I can't...

0:01:57 > 0:01:59so, I'm just happy that I'm OK.

0:01:59 > 0:02:02I'm just really a little bit angry at the minute.

0:02:27 > 0:02:30It's midway through the racing season,

0:02:30 > 0:02:32and team-mates James and Harry are chilling out.

0:02:35 > 0:02:38All right, it's time for one of my rides now.

0:02:38 > 0:02:39Cool.

0:02:39 > 0:02:41Experienced driver, Harry, has won every race

0:02:41 > 0:02:44so far in this year's Ginetta Juniors.

0:02:44 > 0:02:46And nothing fast fazes him.

0:02:48 > 0:02:49Whoa!

0:02:54 > 0:02:58And after several rookie wins, James is feeling on top of the world, too.

0:03:00 > 0:03:03Oh, that was amazing. Unbelievable. Really, really cool.

0:03:07 > 0:03:10Unbelievable. I've never felt a rush so like it.

0:03:10 > 0:03:13My heart was going so much, but it's been really good.

0:03:13 > 0:03:17Isn't it nice to do something different instead of racing?

0:03:17 > 0:03:20Well, you know, it's still quite a lot of fun.

0:03:20 > 0:03:22Racing's still right up at the top, but this comes close.

0:03:22 > 0:03:25All in all, it's been a great first season

0:03:25 > 0:03:27and hopefully we can continue like that.

0:03:27 > 0:03:32- I think for the next race, you can go faster, really.- Faster?!

0:03:32 > 0:03:37- Well, OK, I'm always trying to go faster.- Well, you can go faster.

0:03:37 > 0:03:39Even faster? OK, I'll try it.

0:03:41 > 0:03:44Across the country, James' main rival, Jamie,

0:03:44 > 0:03:48has come to the England versus Spain hockey internationals.

0:03:48 > 0:03:51Jamie recently decided to pursue her racing career

0:03:51 > 0:03:53instead of playing hockey for England.

0:03:53 > 0:03:56But, that doesn't stop her enjoying being a spectator.

0:03:56 > 0:04:00As the match finishes, Jamie has another treat in store

0:04:00 > 0:04:03and she's introduced to sporting legend, Dame Kelly Holmes.

0:04:03 > 0:04:07- Hi, Jamie. So, you've got a scholarship?- Yes, for racing.

0:04:07 > 0:04:10- For racing?- Yeah, race car driving. - Wow!- It's a bit different.

0:04:10 > 0:04:12- How old are you? Are you allowed to drive?- 15.

0:04:12 > 0:04:16Hang on a minute, we'll talk about the licence. OK.

0:04:16 > 0:04:17Oh, brilliant then.

0:04:17 > 0:04:20So, what's your aim...what would be your ultimate aim

0:04:20 > 0:04:21now you're in the sport?

0:04:21 > 0:04:25Formula 1 is obviously the pinnacle of motorsports,

0:04:25 > 0:04:27so that's the aim.

0:04:27 > 0:04:30But, I guess it's a very difficult and long journey to get there.

0:04:30 > 0:04:33- Like all sport.- Exactly, yeah.

0:04:33 > 0:04:36What's it like being a girl at such a high level of sport?

0:04:36 > 0:04:37What advice could you give me?

0:04:37 > 0:04:40At the end of the day, if you're talented enough it doesn't matter

0:04:40 > 0:04:43what you are, it's who you are as a person and what you want out of it.

0:04:43 > 0:04:45You just have to say,

0:04:45 > 0:04:47"I want to be that person who puts my sport on the map."

0:04:47 > 0:04:50And you're going to be the one to be the one that does it,

0:04:50 > 0:04:52- and just believe in yourself more than anything.- OK.

0:04:52 > 0:04:55- But, good luck, and really lovely to meet you.- Thank you.

0:04:55 > 0:04:57I hope things turn out fantastic. How cool!

0:04:58 > 0:05:02After an inspiring chat from a sporting hero,

0:05:02 > 0:05:04Jamie is ready to face the races head on.

0:05:09 > 0:05:13It's been an up-and-down season so far for everyone.

0:05:13 > 0:05:15There's no pressure. Whatever happens, happens.

0:05:15 > 0:05:17I can go for wins, I can go for manoeuvres

0:05:17 > 0:05:19which I wouldn't have I've done a few weeks ago.

0:05:19 > 0:05:22I've never had a top rookie win or a top four finish so...

0:05:22 > 0:05:24it just appears everything...

0:05:24 > 0:05:27or anything possible to rob the Chadwick family of a good finish

0:05:27 > 0:05:29seems to happen.

0:05:30 > 0:05:34But as they all gear up for today's races at Crofton, Yorkshire,

0:05:34 > 0:05:35James is feeling confident.

0:05:35 > 0:05:37Hopefully it's going to be a good race,

0:05:37 > 0:05:40and hopefully I'll be on the podium and get first rookie.

0:05:40 > 0:05:44With the first of two races minutes away, everyone is getting into gear.

0:05:46 > 0:05:48They're on the grid.

0:05:48 > 0:05:51Harry is first, Ollie is third, James is fifth

0:05:51 > 0:05:53and Jamie's at the back in ninth.

0:05:56 > 0:06:00From the off, Harry and Ollie are battling it out for second place.

0:06:03 > 0:06:06Whilst Ollie slips into third, his sister Jamie is at the back,

0:06:06 > 0:06:11and as she takes the next corner, another rookie crashes into her.

0:06:11 > 0:06:14Success can quickly turn into failure in this sport,

0:06:14 > 0:06:16even when you're doing everything right.

0:06:16 > 0:06:19COMMENTATOR: Oh, disappointment for those two youngsters.

0:06:19 > 0:06:20Luckily, no-one's been hurt.

0:06:20 > 0:06:23COMMENTATOR: Most importantly, Jamie's out of the car and she's OK.

0:06:25 > 0:06:28This race is over for Jamie just minutes after it began.

0:06:29 > 0:06:31But, for everyone else, it carries on.

0:06:33 > 0:06:35In car number 13,

0:06:35 > 0:06:39James is fighting for that rookie cup as he pushes his way through.

0:06:39 > 0:06:42COMMENTATOR: This is what it feels like

0:06:42 > 0:06:44to be put under pressure in a Ginetta Junior.

0:06:44 > 0:06:47But, as he desperately tries to get ahead of the car in front,

0:06:47 > 0:06:48he comes a cropper...

0:06:48 > 0:06:51he's clipped the car and lost part of his bonnet.

0:06:51 > 0:06:54It's a terrible start to the day all around.

0:06:55 > 0:06:59Back at the front, Ollie's barely hanging on to second place

0:06:59 > 0:07:01before the car behind steals it away.

0:07:01 > 0:07:04COMMENTATOR: Side by side, passes Ollie Chadwick!

0:07:04 > 0:07:07Fumbles his way on the inside...very physical!

0:07:09 > 0:07:11As the race comes to a finish,

0:07:11 > 0:07:13the unrelenting Harry takes first place again.

0:07:13 > 0:07:16COMMENTATOR: Here he comes, what an incredible record!

0:07:18 > 0:07:20It's been a terrible race for the rookies,

0:07:20 > 0:07:23but Ollie takes a respectable third place.

0:07:25 > 0:07:28Harry has won all of the races, but it's a really good championship

0:07:28 > 0:07:30and we're still looking to win this year.

0:07:30 > 0:07:31I'm hungry for that, definitely.

0:07:31 > 0:07:35Ollie might want to win, but Harry is in no mood to lose yet.

0:07:35 > 0:07:37Put my head down, and just concentrated

0:07:37 > 0:07:39on trying to get into the lead,

0:07:39 > 0:07:42and keep pushing until I... I do know that I'm champion.

0:07:44 > 0:07:47James' team-mate, Harry may still be in the top spot,

0:07:47 > 0:07:49but the rookies have taken a knock.

0:07:51 > 0:07:54Back in their tent, James' dad is having to confront

0:07:54 > 0:07:57the reality of the damage done to James' car.

0:07:57 > 0:08:00Dad will just have to go back to work on Monday morning again.

0:08:00 > 0:08:02Another £800.

0:08:03 > 0:08:04That's racing for you.

0:08:06 > 0:08:09Don't worry about it, OK? You did well.

0:08:09 > 0:08:12- Just keep in there, keep pegging away.- OK.

0:08:12 > 0:08:14Don't get too down about it.

0:08:14 > 0:08:15- All right?- Hm.

0:08:15 > 0:08:18It's a bill the family could do without.

0:08:18 > 0:08:21I'm just really a little bit angry at the minute.

0:08:22 > 0:08:25Over in the Chadwick's tent, their mechanics are desperately

0:08:25 > 0:08:29trying to fix Jamie's car in time for the next race.

0:08:29 > 0:08:32I just got to look up and I think the car can be repaired,

0:08:32 > 0:08:34but I can't. So, I'm just happy that I'm OK.

0:08:34 > 0:08:37And, she's concerned about the repair bill, too.

0:08:37 > 0:08:39Any damage is expensive, and obviously

0:08:39 > 0:08:43we want to keep the costs down in such an expensive sport.

0:08:43 > 0:08:47But, obviously you've just got to keep your head up and keep going.

0:08:52 > 0:08:55At home in Gloucestershire, Ollie likes to let rip

0:08:55 > 0:08:56on his very own quad bike.

0:09:04 > 0:09:06He won't catch it!

0:09:06 > 0:09:08But, his dad has to keep a close eye on him.

0:09:08 > 0:09:12At least in the Ginetta it's built with safety in mind.

0:09:12 > 0:09:14You've got a roll cage, you've got a proper seat,

0:09:14 > 0:09:15a proper harness, proper protection.

0:09:18 > 0:09:21Ollie is even more confident here than he is on the track.

0:09:21 > 0:09:24I don't think he's got any threshold of danger.

0:09:24 > 0:09:28I don't think he realises that one day things might go wrong.

0:09:29 > 0:09:32And while Ollie doesn't have a care in the world,

0:09:32 > 0:09:35his sister Jamie is worried about how her season is progressing.

0:09:35 > 0:09:38But, best friend, Yvie, is always there for her.

0:09:38 > 0:09:41My family are doing a lot for me and so are the team.

0:09:41 > 0:09:43Yeah, I'm just on a bit of a downer...

0:09:43 > 0:09:45lost a bit of confidence because of it,

0:09:45 > 0:09:49and I just don't really know how to come out of it, I guess.

0:09:49 > 0:09:51Well, I don't know anything about racing,

0:09:51 > 0:09:54but you're quite hard on yourself sometimes, I know that.

0:09:54 > 0:09:56And I think it's cool that you do racing,

0:09:56 > 0:09:58and that you're the only girl.

0:09:58 > 0:09:59Yeah, I guess I feel it's important

0:09:59 > 0:10:01to maybe do something a bit different.

0:10:01 > 0:10:04You don't have to follow what every other girl does

0:10:04 > 0:10:07and you can do your own thing, still enjoy it, and still get

0:10:07 > 0:10:10involved and not feel threatened or intimidated by the guys.

0:10:10 > 0:10:11And you definitely do that.

0:10:13 > 0:10:14Back at the Croft race track,

0:10:14 > 0:10:17the second day of races is about to get underway.

0:10:17 > 0:10:19But, there's a problem.

0:10:19 > 0:10:20The heavens have opened

0:10:20 > 0:10:23and it doesn't look like the rain is going to stop.

0:10:24 > 0:10:27But, despite the downpour, the show must go on.

0:10:28 > 0:10:30Jamie's car has been fixed in the nick of time

0:10:30 > 0:10:32and she's in ninth place again.

0:10:35 > 0:10:38COMMENTATOR: Well, there we go, lights out, a very quick start.

0:10:38 > 0:10:41Ollie gets into first place right from the start line,

0:10:41 > 0:10:43but will he make it through the first slippery corner?

0:10:45 > 0:10:48COMMENTATOR: Oh, Chadwick, is he going to... Oh, he did it!

0:10:48 > 0:10:51Seconds after the start, and the rain is already causing havoc.

0:10:51 > 0:10:54COMMENTATOR: Oh! That is a big hit!

0:10:55 > 0:10:59It's a disaster for one racer but Jamie, James, Ollie,

0:10:59 > 0:11:01and Harry have all steered clear.

0:11:02 > 0:11:05Ollie is ahead of Harry and in the lead.

0:11:05 > 0:11:07But, as he approaches crash corner again,

0:11:07 > 0:11:09the rain takes its next victim.

0:11:09 > 0:11:11COMMENTATOR: Off he goes, into the gravel.

0:11:11 > 0:11:13That is the end of Ollie's race.

0:11:13 > 0:11:14Ollie is out.

0:11:18 > 0:11:21Harry now goes into first.

0:11:21 > 0:11:25Meanwhile, Jamie is taking it steady at the back after her earlier crash.

0:11:27 > 0:11:30James is keen to keep his car intact, but he's got himself

0:11:30 > 0:11:34into a tussle for third place with a fellow rookie in the dark blue car.

0:11:37 > 0:11:40He's not going to let anyone keep him from another rookie cup.

0:11:40 > 0:11:42COMMENTATOR: Oh! I was going to say,

0:11:42 > 0:11:45they seemed to have gotten through without any contact.

0:11:45 > 0:11:47James is in front. He's in third place.

0:11:49 > 0:11:50But, as the rain pelts down,

0:11:50 > 0:11:53all the rookies are struggling to stay on the track.

0:11:57 > 0:11:58COMMENTATOR: Whoa, there goes Jamie!

0:11:58 > 0:12:02What a near miss for Jamie! It so easily could have been anther crash.

0:12:04 > 0:12:05James is still in third

0:12:05 > 0:12:09and moments away from a podium place and the rookie cup.

0:12:10 > 0:12:12But then, all is lost.

0:12:14 > 0:12:17And the long grass is hiding the damage to his precious car.

0:12:17 > 0:12:20COMMENTATOR: Oh, look, he's holding his head in his hands.

0:12:20 > 0:12:22He knew that was a podium that he's just thrown away.

0:12:22 > 0:12:25The unbeatable Harry triumphs again,

0:12:25 > 0:12:27and Jamie crosses the line in one piece,

0:12:27 > 0:12:29and in front of James, at least.

0:12:29 > 0:12:31Harry has won yet again,

0:12:31 > 0:12:35but James, Jamie, and Ollie have got nowhere in the rain.

0:12:36 > 0:12:39The race was pretty much over as soon as I hit the gravel trap.

0:12:39 > 0:12:40It was pretty much beached in there.

0:12:40 > 0:12:43It's heartbreaking because we would have easily won that race.

0:12:46 > 0:12:47His sister, Jamie,

0:12:47 > 0:12:51is upset that she has still got nowhere near that rookie cup.

0:12:51 > 0:12:54I'm last in the championship, which in my eyes is awful,

0:12:54 > 0:12:57but I think, at the end of the day it's my first year

0:12:57 > 0:12:59and I've got to focus on it as a learning year,

0:12:59 > 0:13:02and it doesn't matter about finishes and things like that.

0:13:02 > 0:13:04As long as I'm still learning.

0:13:04 > 0:13:07With things like this, I'm learning more than I would be

0:13:07 > 0:13:09if I was having consistently good results.

0:13:09 > 0:13:11But, yeah, obviously it's disappointing.

0:13:13 > 0:13:17And James is coming to terms with his worst race so far.

0:13:17 > 0:13:19With some great results behind him,

0:13:19 > 0:13:22he's come to expect more from himself than this.

0:13:22 > 0:13:24I'm really annoyed cos I was looking to third,

0:13:24 > 0:13:27but I made a mistake at the end area there was my fault, so...

0:13:28 > 0:13:31..couldn't blame anybody else but me.

0:13:33 > 0:13:36Neither James or his dad know how much damage has been done

0:13:36 > 0:13:38to the underside of his car,

0:13:38 > 0:13:41or how this will affect the rest of his season.

0:13:42 > 0:13:45Our rookies need the inner strength to be able to take

0:13:45 > 0:13:47these set backs on the chin.

0:13:47 > 0:13:50It's part of being a racing driver.

0:13:50 > 0:13:51But, for today,

0:13:51 > 0:13:54The Racing Set's golden rookie is going home defeated.

0:13:55 > 0:13:57Next time on The Racing Set...

0:13:57 > 0:14:01Both James and Jamie have to face the music.

0:14:01 > 0:14:05I'm 15 years old. I'm going to have to start taking responsibility.

0:14:05 > 0:14:08I think I need to become a bit more aggressive as a person.

0:14:08 > 0:14:11We know it's there, you're just that far away from getting there.
