0:00:02 > 0:00:05These teenage racers aren't old enough to drive on the roads.

0:00:06 > 0:00:10At 15 years old, driving race cars, there's nothing better than that.

0:00:10 > 0:00:14But at the weekends, they tear up the track.

0:00:14 > 0:00:16I don't even know what to say.

0:00:16 > 0:00:18It was an absolutely amazing race.

0:00:18 > 0:00:21This season, two teams go head-to-head.

0:00:21 > 0:00:24- COMMENTATOR:- To the chequered flag, two out of two.

0:00:24 > 0:00:27One is brother and sister.

0:00:27 > 0:00:30We're both competitive and we both want to beat each other.

0:00:33 > 0:00:35The other, a team of mates.

0:00:35 > 0:00:38All of us are going to win!

0:00:38 > 0:00:40Racing is my dream.

0:00:40 > 0:00:45It's a tough fight, and we'll be with them all the way.

0:00:45 > 0:00:48Expect the unexpected, there's no guarantees in this sport.

0:00:48 > 0:00:52So who will be crowned winner of The Racing Set?

0:00:52 > 0:00:55None of my school friends are doing anything as cool as this.

0:00:58 > 0:01:03Last time, Jamie finally got her hands on her first rookie cup...

0:01:03 > 0:01:07For once, it's me that's come through

0:01:07 > 0:01:09rather than other people, so...chuffed.

0:01:09 > 0:01:14..and James and his family had bad news - both off the track...

0:01:14 > 0:01:15I've had the bill.

0:01:15 > 0:01:19It's nearly £7,000, which pretty much cleans us out, James.

0:01:19 > 0:01:20..and on.

0:01:20 > 0:01:21I was annoyed, I was angry,

0:01:21 > 0:01:24and I think I was pushing it a little bit too hard.

0:01:26 > 0:01:28Today, they hit one of the most famous tracks

0:01:28 > 0:01:30in the UK, Brands Hatch.

0:01:31 > 0:01:34It's the last race of the season.

0:01:34 > 0:01:35Just no risks, zero risks,

0:01:35 > 0:01:38and hopefully we can get the rookie cup, mate.

0:01:38 > 0:01:41It all comes down to this.

0:01:41 > 0:01:44He's a sensible driver, and why should he get into trouble?

0:02:07 > 0:02:09Jamie's got an important job to do today,

0:02:09 > 0:02:13she's handing over the scholarship to a new rookie for next season.

0:02:13 > 0:02:14Let's go.

0:02:14 > 0:02:1830 young hopefuls aged between 14 and 17

0:02:18 > 0:02:22are here from all over the world to compete for the £40,000 scholarship,

0:02:22 > 0:02:25and three of them are girls.

0:02:25 > 0:02:28Do you think you're inspired by Jamie Chadwick winning last year?

0:02:28 > 0:02:30Yeah, she's actually the main reason why I came here.

0:02:30 > 0:02:34I like that you can go out there, prove the boys wrong,

0:02:34 > 0:02:37- because they think that we can't do it.- We're way much better!

0:02:40 > 0:02:43- Nice to meet you. - I'm doing the scholarship this year.

0:02:43 > 0:02:46- How much karting have you done? - Just a little bit, actually.

0:02:46 > 0:02:49If I were to give you any advice, it'd be to go do a bit more karting,

0:02:49 > 0:02:52get a bit more exposure to other sorts of racing,

0:02:52 > 0:02:54and definitely come back next year.

0:02:54 > 0:02:58It's great to see another girl trying to get into the Ginetta Juniors.

0:03:00 > 0:03:01This year's winner is Alex,

0:03:01 > 0:03:04and Jamie hands over to the next year's hopeful,

0:03:04 > 0:03:07still remaining the only girl to be awarded the scholarship.

0:03:07 > 0:03:09Although a girl didn't win it,

0:03:09 > 0:03:12it's really encouraging to see so many girls entering the scholarship

0:03:12 > 0:03:15and aspiring to be the next female racing driver.

0:03:23 > 0:03:25It's the last race of the season

0:03:25 > 0:03:29and they are all at the world-famous Brands Hatch racetrack.

0:03:30 > 0:03:35Today, they will be battling it out in front of 40,000 spectators.

0:03:35 > 0:03:38Plan for this weekend, guys, Jamie, obviously with the rookie win

0:03:38 > 0:03:40at Knockhill, try and go for the same.

0:03:40 > 0:03:44- And, Ollie, has to be a win. - Yeah, definitely.

0:03:44 > 0:03:46Obviously, nice to finish the year on a high.

0:03:46 > 0:03:49With their coach expecting a trophy each,

0:03:49 > 0:03:51the pressure is on from the start.

0:03:52 > 0:03:55And James's coach is talking tough, too.

0:03:55 > 0:03:58Key thing for you basically is to keep it on the track.

0:03:58 > 0:04:01- Make sure that we maintain that rookie lead and take that.- Exactly.

0:04:01 > 0:04:04- You confident?- Yeah, I am.

0:04:04 > 0:04:07As long as I'm, like, right with the car, and right with the track.

0:04:07 > 0:04:09Just no risks, zero risks,

0:04:09 > 0:04:12and hopefully we can get the rookie cup, mate,

0:04:12 > 0:04:16which would be an awesome thing to do in your very first year.

0:04:16 > 0:04:17With James this far ahead,

0:04:17 > 0:04:21there's no way that Jamie can win the rookie championship now.

0:04:21 > 0:04:24Hi, Jamie. How are you doing? You've had a good run this year.

0:04:24 > 0:04:26I can't help but think that I could have done better

0:04:26 > 0:04:29and I always feel like I should have had better results on occasions.

0:04:29 > 0:04:31You shouldn't be disappointed with your season,

0:04:31 > 0:04:33I think you've done exceptionally well.

0:04:33 > 0:04:35From a Ginetta point of view,

0:04:35 > 0:04:37we're incredibly proud of what you've done.

0:04:37 > 0:04:40You came through the scholarship. I think you've done a remarkable job

0:04:40 > 0:04:43- and you should be proud of yourself. - Yeah, I can't wait for next season,

0:04:43 > 0:04:46I'll hopefully be up there fighting for some competitions.

0:04:46 > 0:04:49While Jamie's looking forward to next year,

0:04:49 > 0:04:52James's mind isn't only on winning the rookie cup.

0:04:52 > 0:04:55A few weeks ago, he went to try and secure his future in racing

0:04:55 > 0:04:58by meeting a possible sponsor for next season.

0:04:58 > 0:05:01- Nearly there now.- Yeah. - Gosh, how do you feel?

0:05:01 > 0:05:02Yeah, I'm a little bit nervous.

0:05:02 > 0:05:05I impress people when I'm racing, but I'm not sure how I'll do

0:05:05 > 0:05:07when I'm in front of them.

0:05:07 > 0:05:09I'm sure you will. Crikey, it's a big thing, James.

0:05:09 > 0:05:13- Yeah, it is, yeah.- Yeah, just be yourself, that's the best way.

0:05:13 > 0:05:17The people he's about to meet could give the family thousands of pounds

0:05:17 > 0:05:19towards James's racing costs.

0:05:19 > 0:05:21It's what he and his parents have been looking for.

0:05:21 > 0:05:25- Hi.- Hi, James.- Hello.- Hi.

0:05:25 > 0:05:26If you'd just like to take a seat,

0:05:26 > 0:05:28I'll let the guys know that you're here.

0:05:28 > 0:05:30He's brought along two of his many rookie cups

0:05:30 > 0:05:32to show them how good he is.

0:05:32 > 0:05:35I'm quite nervous, I don't know what it's going to be like.

0:05:35 > 0:05:38I'm thinking it's going to be a bit like X Factor, to be honest,

0:05:38 > 0:05:40being in front of the judges.

0:05:40 > 0:05:43- Hi, James, we're ready to see you now.- Right, OK.- Good luck.- See you.

0:05:43 > 0:05:45Be yourself.

0:05:45 > 0:05:48- Hi, James, welcome. This is Ian.- Hi.

0:05:48 > 0:05:50James, nice to meet you.

0:05:50 > 0:05:54His parents have already persuaded the bosses to sponsor his last race.

0:05:54 > 0:05:58But James needs a lot of money to get him through the next season.

0:05:58 > 0:06:00And it's such a big meeting,

0:06:00 > 0:06:02the cameras aren't allowed in for his pitch.

0:06:04 > 0:06:06Thank you for coming, James. If you take a seat at reception,

0:06:06 > 0:06:08we're going to have a quick chat about it.

0:06:08 > 0:06:11- We'll get back to you in a bit. - OK, thank you.- Cheers.

0:06:12 > 0:06:16Without this sponsorship, James might not race next year.

0:06:18 > 0:06:20So that was a fantastic presentation,

0:06:20 > 0:06:22we were very impressed by it.

0:06:22 > 0:06:24Very impressed about you and what you do

0:06:24 > 0:06:27and the future you've got in the motorsport industry.

0:06:27 > 0:06:30But, as you know, it is a big decision for us,

0:06:30 > 0:06:33so what we'd like to do is take a little bit longer to think about it,

0:06:33 > 0:06:34- if that's OK?- OK.

0:06:36 > 0:06:38Back at Brands Hatch,

0:06:38 > 0:06:42the crowds are gathering for the final race of the season.

0:06:42 > 0:06:45The driving rain is making this famously windy and hilly track

0:06:45 > 0:06:47even more challenging.

0:06:48 > 0:06:51But Jamie and Ollie are looking forward to it.

0:06:51 > 0:06:55I think I like the wet, so hopefully it'll work in both our favours.

0:06:55 > 0:06:56You going to take any risks this weekend,

0:06:56 > 0:06:59- considering it's your last...? - I've got to be a bit careful,

0:06:59 > 0:07:02because I've got a few points on my licence,

0:07:02 > 0:07:05but I haven't got anything else to lose, so, yeah, we'll see.

0:07:05 > 0:07:08Circuit's good, as well, so hopefully we'll be on it.

0:07:09 > 0:07:11There's only one thing missing this weekend -

0:07:11 > 0:07:13Harry wasn't able to come today.

0:07:13 > 0:07:15But he's had so many wins this season,

0:07:15 > 0:07:18he has already won the overall championship.

0:07:21 > 0:07:25But over in James's tent, the rain is creating an unexpected problem.

0:07:25 > 0:07:28James's mum is worried that he will come off the wet track

0:07:28 > 0:07:31and lose points, which could cost him the rookie championship.

0:07:31 > 0:07:34We're in a real predicament, obviously, today,

0:07:34 > 0:07:38because as it stands James has won the rookie championship.

0:07:38 > 0:07:40Even if he doesn't race, he's won it.

0:07:40 > 0:07:43If he races and comes last, he's won it.

0:07:43 > 0:07:45But if he races and causes an accident,

0:07:45 > 0:07:48he could lose the rookie championship.

0:07:48 > 0:07:51And also if he's in a crash, it incurs expense with the car,

0:07:51 > 0:07:53which we don't have, and you just think,

0:07:53 > 0:07:55"Oh, God, what should you do?"

0:07:57 > 0:08:01He's a sensible driver, why should he get into trouble now?

0:08:01 > 0:08:05Never has yet, so... God, it's so...

0:08:05 > 0:08:09- Why are you crying?- Because it's an emotional turmoil in your head.

0:08:09 > 0:08:12I think I'm going... I think I am going to do it.

0:08:12 > 0:08:14It would be good to go out there and do it,

0:08:14 > 0:08:17go out there and drive as fast as possible.

0:08:17 > 0:08:19But then I've got the thing in the back of my head

0:08:19 > 0:08:20to keep out of trouble.

0:08:23 > 0:08:27As the cars head out on to the track, the rain comes lashing down.

0:08:27 > 0:08:30The track is slippery and the visibility is poor -

0:08:30 > 0:08:33this last race will be their toughest yet.

0:08:33 > 0:08:39With no Harry in this final battle, James's team-mate Will is in first.

0:08:39 > 0:08:42Ollie is third, James is fifth and Jamie is eighth.

0:08:44 > 0:08:46- COMMENTATOR:- Lights out and away we go.

0:08:46 > 0:08:49As they all take off in the torrential rain,

0:08:49 > 0:08:50Will maintains first

0:08:50 > 0:08:53but Ollie drops back straightaway to fifth,

0:08:53 > 0:08:54and James is behind him.

0:08:56 > 0:08:57A few seconds later,

0:08:57 > 0:09:00the incredibly wet conditions claim the first victim.

0:09:00 > 0:09:03- COMMENTATOR:- It is absolutely pouring it down here,

0:09:03 > 0:09:05visibility's treacherous.

0:09:05 > 0:09:08Ollie takes his chance and moves into third place.

0:09:08 > 0:09:12Ollie Chadwick there who's really looking...

0:09:12 > 0:09:13Meanwhile, Jamie and a fellow rookie

0:09:13 > 0:09:15are behind James and struggling

0:09:15 > 0:09:17to stay on the track.

0:09:17 > 0:09:19Back at the front, Ollie, Will,

0:09:19 > 0:09:22and another driver jostle for first place.

0:09:22 > 0:09:25When the other driver tries to overtake Will,

0:09:25 > 0:09:26it goes horribly wrong for him.

0:09:29 > 0:09:33And that leaves Ollie and Will fighting it out for first.

0:09:33 > 0:09:35Ollie Chadwick looks round the outside line,

0:09:35 > 0:09:37Will Palmer goes off onto the grass...

0:09:37 > 0:09:39Ollie is now in first.

0:09:39 > 0:09:41He's got his nose in front,

0:09:41 > 0:09:43Ollie Chadwick very clearly proving to be man of the meeting here.

0:09:43 > 0:09:45And the weather is so bad

0:09:45 > 0:09:47that even the racetrack cameras are steaming up.

0:09:47 > 0:09:50It's difficult for everyone to see where they are going.

0:09:50 > 0:09:52Jamie Chadwick on the gravel, well held,

0:09:52 > 0:09:55Jamie gets it back on at Paddock. Oh...

0:09:55 > 0:09:59Goodness me. This is a very challenging track.

0:09:59 > 0:10:01James has kept his promise to his mum

0:10:01 > 0:10:03and is not taking any risks today.

0:10:03 > 0:10:05He's keeping his nose clean in the middle.

0:10:05 > 0:10:07At the front again

0:10:07 > 0:10:09the battle for first is still raging between Ollie and Will.

0:10:09 > 0:10:12- Battle for the lead. - They're both absolutely on it

0:10:12 > 0:10:14and they're both determined

0:10:14 > 0:10:16to win this race.

0:10:16 > 0:10:19But, as they take the next corner,

0:10:19 > 0:10:22Will surprises Ollie by stealing the top spot.

0:10:22 > 0:10:25And Palmer's through, got in front!

0:10:25 > 0:10:27Luckily for Ollie, it's not for long.

0:10:27 > 0:10:30Palmer's around! Oh, dear.

0:10:30 > 0:10:33Well, that's it, isn't it? Game over.

0:10:33 > 0:10:34Will rejoins the track,

0:10:34 > 0:10:37but Ollie's now too far ahead

0:10:37 > 0:10:38to be caught by anyone.

0:10:39 > 0:10:43Jamie is in the middle of the pack with Will trying to get past her.

0:10:43 > 0:10:45Jamie Chadwick just in front of him.

0:10:45 > 0:10:46He wants to get back to the front,

0:10:46 > 0:10:49but as he pushes on the inside of Jamie

0:10:49 > 0:10:50they both spin off.

0:10:50 > 0:10:52Touches Jamie and they both go round.

0:10:55 > 0:10:58This takes them out of the race.

0:10:58 > 0:11:02That's a shame for Jamie. Not a great way to end the season.

0:11:02 > 0:11:05But this race belongs to her brother Ollie.

0:11:05 > 0:11:09Here he is, across the line, Chadwick wins it.

0:11:09 > 0:11:10Ollie is first.

0:11:10 > 0:11:15It's brilliant, especially in these terrible conditions.

0:11:15 > 0:11:19And James has kept his car on the track and brought it home safe.

0:11:19 > 0:11:23He is now the rookie champion for the whole season.

0:11:23 > 0:11:25- Fantastic!- Thank you.

0:11:25 > 0:11:27Oh, God, what do you feel like?!

0:11:27 > 0:11:31I don't know, I don't know what to say.

0:11:31 > 0:11:33No, I know. Fantastic.

0:11:33 > 0:11:37- I'm so proud of you. - Thank you.- Well done.

0:11:38 > 0:11:41Cracking effort. Really, really good.

0:11:41 > 0:11:44Really, really good job all year, so the only thing left to do now is...

0:11:44 > 0:11:49- next year, what are we going to go for?- The championship.- Excellent.

0:11:49 > 0:11:52And Ollie can barely contain himself.

0:11:52 > 0:11:55So there is our winner, Ollie Chadwick, absolutely delighted

0:11:55 > 0:11:57with the win here at Brands Hatch.

0:11:59 > 0:12:02I just had to put my car in the right place at the right time,

0:12:02 > 0:12:04and I was able to get good runs out of corners,

0:12:04 > 0:12:08I was able to control the race at my own pace and take the win.

0:12:08 > 0:12:09It's absolutely fantastic.

0:12:11 > 0:12:15Jamie is taking in her loss and having a quiet moment to herself.

0:12:17 > 0:12:21But James leaves Brands Hatch the rookie champion for the season.

0:12:33 > 0:12:36At the end of every racing season, all the drivers and their parents

0:12:36 > 0:12:38celebrate at a glittering ball.

0:12:41 > 0:12:43The champions are awarded their trophies,

0:12:43 > 0:12:46and everyone looks back on a successful year.

0:12:46 > 0:12:48It was absolutely amazing to be at the front

0:12:48 > 0:12:50pushing with the front guys,

0:12:50 > 0:12:54and it was just so good to be able to get that rookie championship.

0:12:55 > 0:12:56Successful year for me,

0:12:56 > 0:12:59it's probably one of my best ones in my racing career.

0:13:00 > 0:13:02It's been enjoyable.

0:13:02 > 0:13:06When you look back at it, obviously there's been major frustrations,

0:13:06 > 0:13:09but there are races where it's been brilliant.

0:13:09 > 0:13:12As Harry and Ollie move up to racing bigger cars next year,

0:13:12 > 0:13:14James and Jamie will battle it out again,

0:13:14 > 0:13:16but this time for the championship.

0:13:16 > 0:13:18Hopefully one day I'll be able to drive an F1 car,

0:13:18 > 0:13:21it would be my dream. We'll have to see, though. Keep an eye out.

0:13:21 > 0:13:24But for James, tonight is about more than his trophy.

0:13:24 > 0:13:28His mum and dad have been saving up some special news for him.

0:13:28 > 0:13:30Listen, sponsors have come up trumps,

0:13:30 > 0:13:33you're going to be able to start next year.

0:13:33 > 0:13:35Oh, that's amazing, absolutely amazing.

0:13:35 > 0:13:39So at least you know we can start. I'm so proud of you.

0:13:39 > 0:13:42- Well done. OK?- Yeah.

0:13:42 > 0:13:47So, after an incredible season for all of The Racing Set,

0:13:47 > 0:13:50keep an eye out for these future stars of Formula One.
