0:00:01 > 0:00:03I'm Nigel.
0:00:05 > 0:00:07I'm Michelle.
0:00:07 > 0:00:11We're going to show you how to turn useless rubbish...
0:00:11 > 0:00:13What are you going to do with this lot?!
0:00:13 > 0:00:15..into amazing useful stuff.
0:00:15 > 0:00:17So cool!
0:00:17 > 0:00:18All here on...
0:00:22 > 0:00:24Coming up, we meet a make-up artist
0:00:24 > 0:00:27who creates horror make-up from leftover stuff...
0:00:27 > 0:00:30We visit two friends who want to put fear in their films
0:00:30 > 0:00:33without spending a fortune...
0:00:33 > 0:00:36And we show you how to make brilliant bookends...
0:00:36 > 0:00:39But first, gross out from what you throw out...
0:00:39 > 0:00:41This is a gross gift.
0:00:42 > 0:00:46We're trying out new gifts. Would you like to take a look inside?
0:00:46 > 0:00:49See if it's something you'd like as a present?
0:00:49 > 0:00:50THEY YELL
0:00:50 > 0:00:53Grossing out group style! I like it.
0:00:53 > 0:00:55THEY SCREAM
0:00:55 > 0:00:57And then those nice ladies...
0:00:57 > 0:00:59If it jumps out, I'll go mad.
0:00:59 > 0:01:01- SHE SHRIEKS - Surprise!
0:01:01 > 0:01:04- Argh! - He's not sure what to make of it.
0:01:04 > 0:01:06Are you sure you wouldn't like it?!
0:01:06 > 0:01:07Result!
0:01:07 > 0:01:10- That went pretty well! - Scary stuff!
0:01:10 > 0:01:12I'll show you how to make it.
0:01:12 > 0:01:15Yep, I'm going to show you how to prank your mates
0:01:15 > 0:01:17out of stuff you have lying around.
0:01:17 > 0:01:22This is a gross gift and I'm going to show you exactly how to make one.
0:01:22 > 0:01:25What we need first is a box.
0:01:25 > 0:01:29Now sometimes at birthdays, Christmas, certain times of year,
0:01:29 > 0:01:33you get lots of boxes. This is a really cool idea for those boxes
0:01:33 > 0:01:35you might have lying around.
0:01:35 > 0:01:38Take one of the boxes and what you want to do
0:01:38 > 0:01:42is cut a hole in the bottom that's big enough for your finger.
0:01:42 > 0:01:46Now, you can use scissors or you can use a pencil to poke a hole through,
0:01:46 > 0:01:49but make sure the hole is big enough for your finger.
0:01:49 > 0:01:52And once you've done that, you should have a box
0:01:52 > 0:01:55that looks a little bit like that.
0:01:55 > 0:02:00Next, you need to fill your box with cotton wool.
0:02:00 > 0:02:05Don't be too careful about this, make sure there's lot of cotton wool
0:02:05 > 0:02:11in there so that your freaky finger is going to look nice and presented inside.
0:02:11 > 0:02:17The next thing you need to do is get some red paint or food colouring
0:02:17 > 0:02:23and paint the cotton wool around where your finger is going to be.
0:02:23 > 0:02:26You want to make it look nice and gory,
0:02:26 > 0:02:30so make sure there's lots of red colouring in that area.
0:02:30 > 0:02:32You need to let that dry.
0:02:34 > 0:02:39Once it's dry, you should have a box that looks a bit like that.
0:02:40 > 0:02:43All that's left to do is to decorate your box,
0:02:43 > 0:02:48so maybe find an old ribbon or an old gift tag
0:02:48 > 0:02:50and stick it in the middle.
0:02:50 > 0:02:55Decorate it, because you want people to open this gift.
0:02:55 > 0:02:59And then you're ready to give...
0:03:01 > 0:03:03..your gross gift.
0:03:04 > 0:03:06Eurgh!
0:03:40 > 0:03:44Movie make-up can be an expensive business and some films
0:03:44 > 0:03:47spend as much as a million pounds on make-up.
0:03:47 > 0:03:49I've come to meet two young film-makers
0:03:49 > 0:03:53who don't have that sort of cash to flash.
0:03:54 > 0:03:56Meet Ben and Tobin.
0:03:56 > 0:03:59They love making short films in their spare time,
0:03:59 > 0:04:03but they've run out of ideas and need some inspiration.
0:04:03 > 0:04:06They have no money for expensive make-up so they want to know
0:04:06 > 0:04:09if there's anything they can do with stuff
0:04:09 > 0:04:11that's lying around the house.
0:04:11 > 0:04:13What kind of things have you made?
0:04:13 > 0:04:17We like making comedy films and something we've really enjoyed
0:04:17 > 0:04:20is making horror films. We really want to put our ideas
0:04:20 > 0:04:24out on the internet and just make the people watching
0:04:24 > 0:04:26enjoy our fantastic film-making.
0:04:26 > 0:04:28That is seriously impressive!
0:04:28 > 0:04:31Do you use different types of make-up in your films?
0:04:31 > 0:04:35We normally just use old face-paint, old Halloween masks,
0:04:35 > 0:04:38but it's not really good enough, you know.
0:04:38 > 0:04:40You want it to look really, really good?
0:04:40 > 0:04:43We've run out of money and we really need some help
0:04:43 > 0:04:45getting our ideas back out there.
0:04:45 > 0:04:48I know someone who is an absolutely amazing artist
0:04:48 > 0:04:52and she does really impressive things with make-up.
0:04:52 > 0:04:54So it might be up your street. Take a look.
0:05:00 > 0:05:04I'm Angela Kiely and today I'm going to be creating a zombie look
0:05:04 > 0:05:07out of some recycled materials.
0:05:07 > 0:05:10Before I begin, I like to get everything out,
0:05:10 > 0:05:12make sure I'm prepared.
0:05:12 > 0:05:16This is my friend Johnny and he's my model for the day.
0:05:16 > 0:05:18I've taken a cardboard tube
0:05:18 > 0:05:22and I've ripped it up into little pieces to make flaking skin texture.
0:05:26 > 0:05:29The next thing I'm going to do is make some veins.
0:05:29 > 0:05:34And I've found a really good way of doing that is with some string.
0:05:34 > 0:05:39To give a really nice, thick, gnarly texture, I've got some breadcrumbs.
0:05:42 > 0:05:45I've used a lot of breadcrumbs, as you can see.
0:05:45 > 0:05:48They just drop off the face as you're going.
0:05:48 > 0:05:50Probably use half a loaf.
0:05:55 > 0:05:56How does it feel, Johnny?
0:05:56 > 0:06:01The breadcrumbs are certainly making my face feel quite ticklish.
0:06:10 > 0:06:13I'm using greens, generally, for this look,
0:06:13 > 0:06:16but you can use whatever colour you want.
0:06:18 > 0:06:21I'm going to attach my ping-pong ball.
0:06:21 > 0:06:25I cut the back off it and I've just shaped it slightly,
0:06:25 > 0:06:29so you can see the edge is curved and this shape should just help it
0:06:29 > 0:06:32fit a little bit better around the eyeball.
0:06:32 > 0:06:36You can just draw a few red veins all over the surface of the eye.
0:06:49 > 0:06:51It's a very strange sensation,
0:06:51 > 0:06:56because it's something that's kind of between my eye and Angela.
0:07:01 > 0:07:04We're now on to the final piece of my zombie look
0:07:04 > 0:07:07and I'm going to add some teeth.
0:07:07 > 0:07:11For this I'm going to use pistachio shells on a piece of wax
0:07:11 > 0:07:12from a cheese.
0:07:19 > 0:07:23A good idea is to make sure you dry the teeth off thoroughly
0:07:23 > 0:07:26and this will make sure that the wax attaches itself
0:07:26 > 0:07:29to the teeth properly and it doesn't fall out.
0:07:31 > 0:07:34As a final detail, I've just ripped Johnny's shirt
0:07:34 > 0:07:36and added a bit of colour.
0:07:36 > 0:07:39So that's it, that's my finished zombie look.
0:07:50 > 0:07:52HE GROWLS
0:07:54 > 0:07:58From just an old cardboard tube, string, some breadcrumbs,
0:07:58 > 0:08:01half a ping-pong ball and some green paint,
0:08:01 > 0:08:04Angela Kiely created this zombie make-up look,
0:08:04 > 0:08:07which has given me a great idea for budding film-makers
0:08:07 > 0:08:10Ben and Tobin, who want amazing movie make-up
0:08:10 > 0:08:12that doesn't cost them mega bucks.
0:08:12 > 0:08:16Right guys, I think it's time to work up something pretty scary.
0:08:16 > 0:08:20We are going to transform Tobin into a real-life zombie.
0:08:20 > 0:08:22Are you up for it?
0:08:22 > 0:08:26So we're going to start with doing a base coat on your face.
0:08:26 > 0:08:29For that we need some face paints. You grab a sponge,
0:08:29 > 0:08:32I'll grab a sponge, let's get painting.
0:08:32 > 0:08:36Remember to watch your eyes when applying things to your face.
0:08:36 > 0:08:38What's your next plan for a movie, Ben?
0:08:38 > 0:08:42We've got some ideas and we might go out and prank some people.
0:08:42 > 0:08:44- Nice!- Something we like doing.
0:08:44 > 0:08:48Time to use the same skin technique as Angela.
0:08:48 > 0:08:52Old kitchen rolls, the tubing that you've got left over,
0:08:52 > 0:08:54we can use this to make flaky skin.
0:08:54 > 0:08:58You're literally just ripping the cardboard off
0:08:58 > 0:09:00and just creating a few curls and tears in it.
0:09:00 > 0:09:05Paint the cardboard the same colour as the face and leave it to dry.
0:09:05 > 0:09:09Zombies have kind of weird bulging veins.
0:09:09 > 0:09:13And here's how you can create that veiny look that Angela showed us.
0:09:13 > 0:09:15Just unravel the string.
0:09:15 > 0:09:19It's funny how the stuff that you just throw away
0:09:19 > 0:09:21and put in the recycling, you can actually use
0:09:21 > 0:09:25- and make things like this. - Normally you'd probably chuck it.
0:09:25 > 0:09:29But now you can look around the house and be thinking,
0:09:29 > 0:09:31- "Ooh, could I use that?"- Yeah.
0:09:31 > 0:09:35"Would that be good for my next blockbuster movie?"
0:09:35 > 0:09:39What helps make it look more realistic is just use some scissors
0:09:39 > 0:09:43to snip some of the thinner bits of string now to different lengths.
0:09:43 > 0:09:46To stick everything on, we can use some honey,
0:09:46 > 0:09:50because obviously honey's really sticky.
0:09:50 > 0:09:53And then to create some really gnarly, horrible skin,
0:09:53 > 0:09:56we've got some old breadcrumbs.
0:09:56 > 0:10:02Dip your sponge in your honey, dip it into your old stale breadcrumbs
0:10:02 > 0:10:04and then let's just start sticking them on.
0:10:04 > 0:10:07I'm not going to have birds feeding off me, am I?
0:10:07 > 0:10:13- The messy part.- That's it. It is a bit messy but great fun.
0:10:13 > 0:10:16'Just go over the breadcrumbs with the purple paint
0:10:16 > 0:10:18'to make them look more realistic.'
0:10:18 > 0:10:20And now we want to stick our veins on
0:10:20 > 0:10:24so for that you're going to paint some honey on Tobin's face,
0:10:24 > 0:10:29grab your veiny string and stick it in position.
0:10:29 > 0:10:31With your cardboard flaps of skin,
0:10:31 > 0:10:34just use your honey again to stick it on.
0:10:34 > 0:10:37- It really looks like flaps of skin, doesn't it?- Yeah.
0:10:39 > 0:10:42'To paint the veins, a mixture of honey and food colouring
0:10:42 > 0:10:44'makes a great blood substitute.'
0:10:46 > 0:10:47Oh yeah, this looks good.
0:10:49 > 0:10:51We don't need money any more.
0:10:56 > 0:10:58Really scary!
0:10:58 > 0:11:01Something that's going to really bring it to life
0:11:01 > 0:11:04is a crazy, horrible eye.
0:11:04 > 0:11:05'Just like the one Angela made.'
0:11:07 > 0:11:10So for that, I've got an old ping-pong ball
0:11:10 > 0:11:14and I've cut it in half and I've just shaped it like Angela did,
0:11:14 > 0:11:17just to make it a bit more scooped on each side,
0:11:17 > 0:11:21and all we're going to do is draw a scary pupil on it.
0:11:21 > 0:11:24So with a black felt tip, you're just going to draw
0:11:24 > 0:11:27a circle in the middle for your pupil,
0:11:27 > 0:11:31and then you can just use loads of different pencil crayons
0:11:31 > 0:11:32to really bring the eye to life,
0:11:32 > 0:11:36so I'm going for a blue eye but you can go for any colour you want to.
0:11:38 > 0:11:39What do you think?
0:11:41 > 0:11:44'Angela's scary zombie teeth are easy to recreate
0:11:44 > 0:11:48'using the wax from an old cheese and some pistachio nut shells,
0:11:48 > 0:11:50'and if you haven't got pistachio nut shells,
0:11:50 > 0:11:54'you can use stiff card or even bits of crackers or crisps.'
0:11:54 > 0:11:57Now it's time to start piecing it all together.
0:12:02 > 0:12:06That is properly gruesome. Right, let's get movie making.
0:12:06 > 0:12:09'And watch out, it's going to get scary.'
0:12:17 > 0:12:19FOOTSTEPS
0:12:22 > 0:12:25ROARING
0:12:31 > 0:12:33FOOTSTEPS AND CREAKING
0:12:43 > 0:12:45ROARING
0:12:50 > 0:12:52KNOCKING ON DOOR
0:13:00 > 0:13:02DOOR CREAKS
0:13:04 > 0:13:06BEN SCREAMS
0:13:09 > 0:13:11MANIACAL LAUGHTER
0:13:14 > 0:13:18'Here's how you can create your own zombie look.
0:13:18 > 0:13:21'Stage One, get your face paints ready and apply them to your face.
0:13:23 > 0:13:26'Stage Two, tear off pieces of cardboard roll
0:13:26 > 0:13:27'to make a scaly skin effect
0:13:27 > 0:13:29'and paint them the same colour as your face.
0:13:32 > 0:13:35'Stage Three, using honey as a glue, apply breadcrumbs
0:13:35 > 0:13:38'to give a warty effect, and if you haven't got honey,
0:13:38 > 0:13:40'jam or lemon curd would do.
0:13:42 > 0:13:44'Stage Four, use string to make veins
0:13:44 > 0:13:47'and pull it apart to make them look more authentic.
0:13:52 > 0:13:54'Stage Five, to make your spooky eye,
0:13:54 > 0:13:56'cut a ping-pong ball in half and shape it,
0:13:56 > 0:13:58'then draw on the pupil and veins.
0:14:02 > 0:14:06'Stage Six, to make your teeth, use wax from a round cheese
0:14:06 > 0:14:07'and pistachio shells.
0:14:07 > 0:14:10'If you haven't got pistachios, try stiff cardboard
0:14:10 > 0:14:12'or pieces of crackers or crisps.'
0:14:20 > 0:14:24'Still to come, we rake up some recyclable art at the beach.'
0:14:24 > 0:14:28'And it's an exclusive! We make a great newspaper gift bag.'
0:14:28 > 0:14:30'But first...Totally Famous.
0:14:33 > 0:14:36'Introducing Damien Hirst,
0:14:36 > 0:14:39'Totally Famous for shaking up the art word in the 1990s,
0:14:39 > 0:14:43'and going on to become the richest living artist on the planet.
0:14:43 > 0:14:47'Not bad for someone who got an E in his Art A Level!
0:14:47 > 0:14:49'Ideas of life and death are important in Damien's work,
0:14:49 > 0:14:51'and some of his most famous art
0:14:51 > 0:14:55'features animals that had already met their maker.
0:14:55 > 0:14:56'Long gone to sleep sheep.
0:14:58 > 0:14:59'Not alive now cows.
0:15:01 > 0:15:03'And sharks that have carked.
0:15:04 > 0:15:07'And it was this particular shark, called
0:15:07 > 0:15:10'The Physical Impossibility of Death In The Mind of Someone Living,
0:15:10 > 0:15:12'that really made a name for Damien.
0:15:12 > 0:15:15'He sold it for around £50,000,
0:15:15 > 0:15:19'but years later it was sold for an amazing six million quid.
0:15:19 > 0:15:22'That's a very expensive bit of fish!
0:15:22 > 0:15:25'Hirst sometimes doesn't even create his art himself -
0:15:25 > 0:15:27'he gets other people to do it.
0:15:27 > 0:15:29'He claims to have painted only five
0:15:29 > 0:15:32'out of more than 1,400 of his spot paintings,
0:15:32 > 0:15:36'saying it's the idea, not the doing, that's important.
0:15:36 > 0:15:40'But the award for putting the bling into recycling has to go
0:15:40 > 0:15:44'to the human skull he covered in 8,601 diamonds
0:15:44 > 0:15:47'called For The Love of God,
0:15:47 > 0:15:51'the most expensive work of art ever made in terms of materials used.
0:15:51 > 0:15:54'It sold for a very shiny 50 million quid, though,
0:15:54 > 0:15:57'so don't go feeling sorry for Damien.
0:15:57 > 0:15:59'So let's hear it for the Totally Famous
0:15:59 > 0:16:01'and rather successful Damien Hirst.'
0:16:09 > 0:16:11Boogly, boogly, boogly!
0:16:11 > 0:16:14THEY LAUGH
0:16:14 > 0:16:15Hello.
0:16:15 > 0:16:19Today we are going to make a gift bag for this gift.
0:16:23 > 0:16:27Using a big sheet of old newspaper, some old ribbon or string
0:16:27 > 0:16:28and an old book as a guide.
0:16:28 > 0:16:31First you get some newspaper,
0:16:31 > 0:16:34fold this bit like this.
0:16:35 > 0:16:37You can make your bag any size you like.
0:16:37 > 0:16:39It depends on the size of the book.
0:16:40 > 0:16:42So you put the book there and you fold it.
0:16:44 > 0:16:45Do it...
0:16:45 > 0:16:48not too tight because then you can't get the book out.
0:16:48 > 0:16:50Then you...
0:16:50 > 0:16:52oh, no!
0:16:52 > 0:16:55Then you stick it with sticky tape.
0:16:55 > 0:16:56Nice and pretty.
0:16:56 > 0:17:01For the bottom bit, you fold in this bit like a present.
0:17:01 > 0:17:06You fold in the other side and then the bottom bit you pull up.
0:17:06 > 0:17:08Can I have some more sticky tape, please?
0:17:08 > 0:17:11Sticky, sticky, sticky.
0:17:11 > 0:17:14- Thank you.- Like that. - Yep.- That'll do.
0:17:14 > 0:17:15You take the book out.
0:17:16 > 0:17:19- It looks really good, Michelle. - To make the handles...
0:17:19 > 0:17:24You can use a piece of ribbon or string or something.
0:17:24 > 0:17:27Stick your ribbon handles on each side of the bag.
0:17:27 > 0:17:30Get the present, put it in the gift bag.
0:17:31 > 0:17:35BOTH: And there you have it, your own newspaper gift bag.
0:17:35 > 0:17:41The best thing about making the bag is you can make any size you want,
0:17:41 > 0:17:44so you can put anything inside it.
0:17:44 > 0:17:46You could always decorate it if you wanted too.
0:18:18 > 0:18:20'What can you make from a bin bag full of rubbish?
0:18:20 > 0:18:22'Just have a look at this.'
0:18:22 > 0:18:24What are you going to use all this for?
0:18:24 > 0:18:27I'm going to make something really cool for your bookshelf.
0:18:27 > 0:18:31'You'll need some leftover wrapping paper,
0:18:31 > 0:18:33stiff cardboard,
0:18:33 > 0:18:35stones,
0:18:35 > 0:18:37scissors,
0:18:37 > 0:18:39and some double-sided tape or glue.
0:18:42 > 0:18:45- Hit me with it - what are we making? - You ready?- Yep.
0:18:47 > 0:18:48That is actually really cool!
0:18:48 > 0:18:50Do you know what it is?
0:18:50 > 0:18:53I don't know what it is, no. It looks really good.
0:18:53 > 0:18:54Let's have a look.
0:18:54 > 0:18:57- Of course!- Imagine all of your books lined up there.
0:18:57 > 0:18:58Yeah, yeah, yeah. That is so clever.
0:18:58 > 0:19:00And we've chosen T for Totally
0:19:00 > 0:19:03- as in Totally Rubbish. - Totally Rubbish.
0:19:03 > 0:19:05'You can make whatever letters you like.
0:19:05 > 0:19:06'Have fun with it,
0:19:06 > 0:19:10'making sure you create one for each end of your row of books.'
0:19:10 > 0:19:13- First thing you need is some old cardboard.- Yeah.
0:19:13 > 0:19:16Once you've got your old cardboard you need to draw out the letter
0:19:16 > 0:19:18that you're going to be making.
0:19:18 > 0:19:21Once you have drawn out your letter, what do you need to do next?
0:19:21 > 0:19:22You need to cut it out.
0:19:22 > 0:19:24- Get with it, get with it. - I'll do that.
0:19:24 > 0:19:27Once you've cut it out, you should have something
0:19:27 > 0:19:30that looks a bit like this.
0:19:30 > 0:19:33Little cardboard T. You're going to need two of them
0:19:33 > 0:19:38- because we are making these 3D-style T's.- Yeah.
0:19:38 > 0:19:41So once you've got your sides, we are going to wrap these
0:19:41 > 0:19:44in a piece of old wrapping paper.
0:19:44 > 0:19:46That's really cool, isn't it, cos, like, after birthdays
0:19:46 > 0:19:50or Christmas you've always got bits of random paper lying around.
0:19:50 > 0:19:51This is a good use for it.
0:19:51 > 0:19:54Really simply just like you're wrapping a present.
0:19:54 > 0:19:58- Thank you very much. - Thinking ahead, helping you out here.
0:19:58 > 0:20:01You should end up with something like that.
0:20:01 > 0:20:05What I've done on the back here is labelled it up.
0:20:05 > 0:20:08'I've labelled each side with its own letter.'
0:20:09 > 0:20:13And the other thing I've done is I've put some double-sided tape
0:20:13 > 0:20:14- on each of the sides.- OK.
0:20:14 > 0:20:17'And if you haven't got double-sided tape,
0:20:17 > 0:20:18'you can use glue.'
0:20:18 > 0:20:21The next thing you need is a long strip of card.
0:20:21 > 0:20:25Now this piece of card is going to give our letter some depth. OK?
0:20:25 > 0:20:27- Right.- This is what gives... - That's what pads it out.
0:20:27 > 0:20:30- Yeah, this is what gives it that depth.- Yeah.
0:20:30 > 0:20:33- We are going to use these letters, OK?- Yeah.
0:20:33 > 0:20:38A - this side, mark it up on your side and make a little mark.
0:20:38 > 0:20:40- So you're matching it up?- Yeah.
0:20:40 > 0:20:43- Matching it up against the strip. - That's the A, yeah.
0:20:43 > 0:20:46- Next I'm going for the B, mark it up.- OK, yeah.
0:20:46 > 0:20:50- And do this all the way along. A,B,C,D all the way to H.- Right.
0:20:50 > 0:20:54And what you should get is something that looks like this.
0:20:54 > 0:20:56OK, see? So we have got A, B, C...
0:20:56 > 0:20:58- All your different sections. - All the way up.
0:20:58 > 0:21:01Now, what I've done, because we're still decorating,
0:21:01 > 0:21:05- is I've covered one side in some old wrapping paper again.- Nice.
0:21:05 > 0:21:08And I've made sure that I've given it an edge
0:21:08 > 0:21:11of about two centimetres all the way round.
0:21:11 > 0:21:14You know what? You're good. This guy is good.
0:21:14 > 0:21:15- This is, you know...- Yeah.
0:21:15 > 0:21:18- You're going to get into this one.- I'm impressed.
0:21:18 > 0:21:21The next thing you need is to cut some tabs
0:21:21 > 0:21:23so we can stick it to our letter.
0:21:23 > 0:21:25- See where the first line is for A?- Yeah.
0:21:25 > 0:21:27We cut a little triangle there.
0:21:27 > 0:21:30- Oh, OK. So, OK... - Pull that out.
0:21:30 > 0:21:33'Repeat this at each mark.'
0:21:33 > 0:21:35And when you've done that...
0:21:37 > 0:21:39..you have something that looks like this.
0:21:39 > 0:21:41So all the tabs have been cut in
0:21:41 > 0:21:44and you've got your letters all the way down.
0:21:45 > 0:21:47And now we're going to stick it to our T.
0:21:47 > 0:21:52We are going to line up our A here with that,
0:21:52 > 0:21:54and our B here which is going to go there, yeah?
0:21:54 > 0:21:56I'm with you.
0:21:56 > 0:21:58And down goes our A.
0:21:58 > 0:22:01OK, so those tabs stick onto the T.
0:22:01 > 0:22:05They will stick onto the T, so you see that's the A there.
0:22:05 > 0:22:08'Just continue like this all the way round.'
0:22:08 > 0:22:10- This is what we get in the end. - Oh, you've done it.
0:22:10 > 0:22:13It's a little light. It's not going to hold up any books, is it?
0:22:13 > 0:22:15- Of course, yeah, good point. - So we need to weight it down.
0:22:15 > 0:22:17- It's the stones, isn't it? - The stones.
0:22:17 > 0:22:20I was wondering where they would come in.
0:22:20 > 0:22:22Perfect, absolutely perfect for it.
0:22:22 > 0:22:25So I've put the stones inside a little old plastic bag.
0:22:25 > 0:22:27Oh, so you keep them in the bag?
0:22:27 > 0:22:30- Yeah, so they're not running around inside.- Yeah.
0:22:30 > 0:22:35Tie a knot in the end and then put that inside your letter,
0:22:35 > 0:22:37and that's going to weight it down.
0:22:37 > 0:22:40So the last thing to do is...
0:22:42 > 0:22:45- ..the other side.- And just stick it on.- Stick it down.
0:22:45 > 0:22:48- That is so good.- There you have it.
0:22:48 > 0:22:51- Love it.- Our Totally Rubbish bookend.
0:22:51 > 0:22:53Now if you don't want to do a T,
0:22:53 > 0:22:55like we said before, you could some other letters.
0:22:55 > 0:22:58Up here we've got an example of an M.
0:22:58 > 0:22:59I like this one, M for Michelle.
0:22:59 > 0:23:03There you go, and on the other side we've got a N for Nigel.
0:23:03 > 0:23:05- Nice.- Totally Rubbish bookend.
0:23:11 > 0:23:14MIN MUNCHES THEN BURPS
0:23:14 > 0:23:18This lunch is rubbish, Vin. It tastes like old cardboard.
0:23:18 > 0:23:20Er...it is old cardboard, Min.
0:23:20 > 0:23:26Did you know that every tonne of cardboard we recycle saves 17 trees.
0:23:26 > 0:23:29Brilliant! I saw a cardboard box race an envelope once!
0:23:29 > 0:23:31Really? Who won?
0:23:31 > 0:23:33Well, the cardboard box, of course!
0:23:33 > 0:23:35The envelope was stationary!
0:23:35 > 0:23:37VIN GROANS
0:23:37 > 0:23:39I think your jokes need binning!
0:23:50 > 0:23:52Right, so what are we actually doing today?
0:23:52 > 0:23:54Cos it's pretty early in the morning.
0:23:54 > 0:23:56It is, we are up early.
0:23:56 > 0:23:58- I mean, it's nice. - Yeah, it is, it's lovely.
0:23:58 > 0:24:01- But why are we actually here? - We're going to get arty.
0:24:01 > 0:24:04And my friends are here to show us how. Come on.
0:24:10 > 0:24:13- Hey Jamie, how are you?- Hello there, I'm very well thank you.
0:24:13 > 0:24:15So what have we got going on here, then?
0:24:15 > 0:24:18We are going to make a big drawing on the beach.
0:24:18 > 0:24:20- You're drawing on the sand? - That's right, yeah.
0:24:20 > 0:24:23So why not just draw on a piece of paper?
0:24:23 > 0:24:25Well, this is like the ultimate recycling,
0:24:25 > 0:24:29because the sea goes out, we make a big drawing on the beach
0:24:29 > 0:24:31and the sea comes back in and washes it away.
0:24:31 > 0:24:33There's no paper wasted here.
0:24:34 > 0:24:37Wow, look at that, the boy's a natural. You're like a ballerina.
0:24:37 > 0:24:39So what are we going to actually be drawing?
0:24:39 > 0:24:42I'm afraid it's top secret. I can't tell you.
0:24:42 > 0:24:44- No little clue at all?- No.
0:24:44 > 0:24:47So do you need any special conditions to do this?
0:24:47 > 0:24:49It's best if you are working on the spring tide
0:24:49 > 0:24:52and spring tide is where the sea goes out really, really far.
0:24:52 > 0:24:55We had a full moon last night, does that make a difference?
0:24:55 > 0:24:56Yeah, if you see a full moon in the sky,
0:24:56 > 0:24:59what it means is the next day there will be a spring tide
0:24:59 > 0:25:02- and a beautiful beach to work on. - Nice.- Ow-whoo!
0:25:02 > 0:25:06Now Jamie said to just join up the dots pretty much so.
0:25:06 > 0:25:08Yeah, just like a giant dot to dot.
0:25:10 > 0:25:11Do you want to carry on?
0:25:11 > 0:25:14OK. This is where it could all go wrong.
0:25:15 > 0:25:19'To keep us on track, Jamie and his team start lending us a hand
0:25:19 > 0:25:20'which is just as well
0:25:20 > 0:25:23'as they actually know what the picture is going to be.'
0:25:25 > 0:25:28We've joined some dots, you know, we've been drawing some lines out,
0:25:28 > 0:25:33but if I'm honest, mate, it sill just looks like squiggly lines.
0:25:33 > 0:25:35- Bunch of lines, mate, what's going on?- Squiggly lines!
0:25:35 > 0:25:37That's cos we haven't done any raking yet
0:25:37 > 0:25:40- so here we go, take a rake.- OK.
0:25:40 > 0:25:43- There's one for you, Michelle. - Right.- Let's go, come on guys!
0:25:48 > 0:25:52- We're building up a little crowd over there.- I know!
0:25:52 > 0:25:54Cos they're all seeing it take shape.
0:25:56 > 0:25:59You know what, I'm starting to get a feeling that they have just
0:25:59 > 0:26:02got us here to tidy the beach. I mean, the sand looks very neat.
0:26:02 > 0:26:04'But we just have to take Jamie's word for it
0:26:04 > 0:26:06'that we're creating something awesome,
0:26:06 > 0:26:10'though we'd better get a move on as the tide's coming in fast.'
0:26:10 > 0:26:13So, watching the masters at work put the final details on.
0:26:13 > 0:26:18I know. You know what, I cannot wait to get up there, take a look, boom.
0:26:22 > 0:26:26The sea is just coming in, so I think with all your hard work
0:26:26 > 0:26:28it's about time you went up the stairs
0:26:28 > 0:26:31- and you had a look at the picture. - This is it. Give that back.
0:26:31 > 0:26:32Give me the rakes, go, go, go!
0:26:36 > 0:26:37- Michelle.- What?
0:26:37 > 0:26:39Have a look at that.
0:26:39 > 0:26:41Oh, man, that looks...!
0:26:41 > 0:26:44- That's you and that's me. - That looks amazing.
0:26:44 > 0:26:46Look at you kicking back in the car!
0:26:46 > 0:26:49- I'm in shock.- That is wicked.
0:26:49 > 0:26:51I can't believe that's actually on the beach!
0:27:05 > 0:27:07- It's totally cool.- See you soon.
0:27:14 > 0:27:19'So why don't you have a go at making a gross gift...'
0:27:19 > 0:27:20'Creating a zombie look...
0:27:21 > 0:27:24'..making a newspaper gift bag.'
0:27:24 > 0:27:27'Or building some bookends?'
0:27:28 > 0:27:31'And start collecting lolly sticks.'
0:27:32 > 0:27:34'Plastic carrier bags.'
0:27:34 > 0:27:37'And crisp tubes for the next time on Totally Rubbish.'
