0:00:02 > 0:00:03I'm Nigel.

0:00:04 > 0:00:06I'm Michelle.

0:00:08 > 0:00:11'We're going to show you how to turn useless rubbish...'

0:00:11 > 0:00:13What are you going to do with this lot?

0:00:13 > 0:00:14'..Into amazing, useful stuff.'

0:00:14 > 0:00:16So cool.

0:00:16 > 0:00:18'All here on...'

0:00:21 > 0:00:25Coming up, we meet an artist who does incredible

0:00:25 > 0:00:27things with cardboard.

0:00:27 > 0:00:30We visit someone who wants to save his boxes from being binned.

0:00:30 > 0:00:33And we transform a school folder with some old jeans.

0:00:33 > 0:00:35But first...

0:00:36 > 0:00:39This is mock mess.

0:00:39 > 0:00:42- Can you help me clear this up? I made a bit of a mess.- Yeah, sure.

0:00:44 > 0:00:46'Gotcha.'

0:00:46 > 0:00:47That's smooth.

0:00:50 > 0:00:52- Yeah, I know.- You spotted it.

0:00:52 > 0:00:54Can you give me a hand, mate?

0:00:54 > 0:00:57I'm clearing this up I've made a bit of a mess. Cheers.

0:00:57 > 0:01:01- 'That's it, down for the wipe.' - It's fake.- Huh?- It's fake.

0:01:01 > 0:01:05- 'Fake? I got you first, though.' - I think we did good, there.- We did.

0:01:05 > 0:01:07I'm going to show you how to make it.

0:01:07 > 0:01:10'Yeah, I'm going to show you how to prank your mates out of stuff

0:01:10 > 0:01:11'you have lying around.'

0:01:11 > 0:01:15This is mock mess and I'm going to show you exactly how to make it.

0:01:15 > 0:01:18First up, we need a bowl of PVA glue.

0:01:18 > 0:01:22You can find PVA in most stationery shops or supermarkets.

0:01:22 > 0:01:25Make sure there's enough PVA in there to spill out

0:01:25 > 0:01:27and make your mock mess.

0:01:27 > 0:01:31We are going to make a strawberry milkshake flavoured mock mess

0:01:31 > 0:01:33so we need to colour our PVA.

0:01:33 > 0:01:37For this, use a tiny bit of paint. Now, be careful how much you use

0:01:37 > 0:01:40because if you use a little bit too much, your milkshake is going

0:01:40 > 0:01:43to look far too red.

0:01:43 > 0:01:48Once you've got your PVA all mixed up to a nice colour, get a surface

0:01:48 > 0:01:50to make your mock mess on.

0:01:50 > 0:01:54Now, what I've used is a big piece of a cardboard box

0:01:54 > 0:01:57and I've covered it in clingfilm.

0:01:57 > 0:02:00Right, now for the moment of truth.

0:02:00 > 0:02:05On goes our mock mess. We need to make one end of our mock mess a

0:02:05 > 0:02:07little bit longer than the other

0:02:07 > 0:02:11so that we can fit one end of it into a cup.

0:02:11 > 0:02:14Now to add some authenticity. You can use a small paintbrush

0:02:14 > 0:02:20and spread your PVA into more of a splat-like shape.

0:02:21 > 0:02:25So, once you're happy with your splat shape, let it dry.

0:02:25 > 0:02:26Now, you have to be patient

0:02:26 > 0:02:29because it takes quite a while. You don't want to

0:02:29 > 0:02:32go in there early. Let your splat settle.

0:02:32 > 0:02:35Once it's dry, you should have something that looks a little bit

0:02:35 > 0:02:37like this.

0:02:37 > 0:02:42Right, now for the moment of truth. You need to peel your mock mess

0:02:42 > 0:02:44off the cling film. Now, be careful with this.

0:02:50 > 0:02:51There we go.

0:02:51 > 0:02:55So, the cups that you get in the cinema or from the takeaway,

0:02:55 > 0:02:59you need to save those cups, they're perfect for your mock mess.

0:02:59 > 0:03:03And remember, we said you needed one end that was a little bit longer -

0:03:03 > 0:03:06that end goes inside the cup like that.

0:03:06 > 0:03:12To make it more realistic, you can add a straw, like that.

0:03:12 > 0:03:15If you don't want to make a milkshake mock mess, what you

0:03:15 > 0:03:20could do is make a milk mock mess using an old milk carton or

0:03:20 > 0:03:24you could make a juice mock mess using an old juice bottle.

0:03:25 > 0:03:29Mock mess done. Thing is, I better clean it all up.

0:04:02 > 0:04:05Amazingly, the UK produces over eight million tonnes of cardboard

0:04:05 > 0:04:09packaging every year. Now, that's the equivalent of around three large

0:04:09 > 0:04:13cardboard boxes a week for every single person in the country.

0:04:13 > 0:04:16And I know someone who doesn't want to waste any of his.

0:04:19 > 0:04:22Meet Yuri. He has a lot of cardboard.

0:04:22 > 0:04:26His grandparents send him loads of packages from Japan so the house is

0:04:26 > 0:04:31often consumed by boxes. But what can he create that's cool out of card?

0:04:32 > 0:04:35So, Yuri, what's the deal with all this cardboard?

0:04:35 > 0:04:38Oh, I get lots of presents from my grandma and my granddad.

0:04:38 > 0:04:40Have you ever thought of doing anything with them?

0:04:40 > 0:04:44Yeah, I've thought of making stuff like mini-models,

0:04:44 > 0:04:46but I haven't really started any.

0:04:46 > 0:04:49So you've got your desk in your bedroom, what goes on on this desk?

0:04:49 > 0:04:52Well, I do lots of drawing and I do homework most of the time on it.

0:04:52 > 0:04:55So maybe we could use the cardboard to create

0:04:55 > 0:04:57something for your desk, perhaps?

0:04:57 > 0:05:00Yeah, I've got lots of pencils and pens lying around.

0:05:00 > 0:05:02There's a possible idea there, and there's a guy that

0:05:02 > 0:05:06I know that's amazing at creating things out of old bits of cardboard.

0:05:06 > 0:05:08So have a watch of this and see what you think.

0:05:13 > 0:05:14My name's Chris Gilmore,

0:05:14 > 0:05:18I'm an artist and I make sculptures out of recycled cardboard.

0:05:18 > 0:05:21I make very realistic things that you might find around a house.

0:05:21 > 0:05:24Today, I'm going to be making a bicycle.

0:05:24 > 0:05:26These are two electric guitars,

0:05:26 > 0:05:30they're based on the guitars the Beatles used to use.

0:05:30 > 0:05:35I live in Italy and this is a classic Italian typewriter from the 1960s.

0:05:35 > 0:05:38This has got lots of pieces, there's lots of tiny screws

0:05:38 > 0:05:42that hold the drum kit together. And, so it can be transported,

0:05:42 > 0:05:44the little drums fit inside the big one.

0:05:44 > 0:05:47A lot of my work is about looking very closely at things,

0:05:47 > 0:05:49so the idea of making a microscope really appealed.

0:05:49 > 0:05:53I usually make a life-size drawing of the thing I'm going to make,

0:05:53 > 0:05:58so I can see all the details, I can check the measurements.

0:05:58 > 0:06:01I've got a nice big box here that I'm going to use

0:06:01 > 0:06:03to make the wheels of the bike.

0:06:03 > 0:06:07I've got the centre of the wheel here and the space for the rims here,

0:06:07 > 0:06:10and it makes a great big compass for drawing big circles.

0:06:14 > 0:06:17Now, I need at least four or five layers of this.

0:06:29 > 0:06:33You need to be very careful doing this.

0:06:33 > 0:06:37And this has given me a nice, rounded shape.

0:06:37 > 0:06:41The tyre here, which will be covered with another piece of cardboard,

0:06:41 > 0:06:45will become the rim. I'm using a type of tape called gum strip tape,

0:06:45 > 0:06:47which has got the glue on this shiny side.

0:06:47 > 0:06:51So for each of the spokes, I need to cut a piece of tape in half.

0:06:51 > 0:06:54And there's about 90 spokes on the bike, so it takes quite a long time.

0:06:54 > 0:06:58I'm going to wet the tape and this goes sticky straightaway.

0:06:58 > 0:07:00Put the wire on straight.

0:07:01 > 0:07:04Leave this to dry for a minute.

0:07:09 > 0:07:11Now repeat about 80 times.

0:07:16 > 0:07:20And I've got the forks and the brakes on this one.

0:07:21 > 0:07:25One nice detail here is the tyre valve. This is made with

0:07:25 > 0:07:28a little tube of quite light-coloured cardboard and then the dust cap

0:07:28 > 0:07:31is made from corrugation from inside the cardboard,

0:07:31 > 0:07:35you can see it's got a texture to it, give it a nice kind of grip.

0:07:35 > 0:07:38To make the chain, cut a strip off.

0:07:38 > 0:07:42I have a pair of scissors which has got a wave shape on the blade,

0:07:42 > 0:07:45and I'm going to use these to cut a wavy line down the cardboard.

0:07:45 > 0:07:50I'm going to do the same on the other side so that the waves line up.

0:07:50 > 0:07:53I need to make a mark on this to look like a rivet

0:07:53 > 0:07:55that connects the chain together.

0:07:55 > 0:07:59This is just one bit of chain that will go across the top.

0:07:59 > 0:08:02You can see the little pieces that I have just made on the outside.

0:08:02 > 0:08:05The cog's basically a round shape,

0:08:05 > 0:08:08but of course, it's got the teeth on the wheel that need to go in.

0:08:11 > 0:08:16Just trim these off. That's going to give me the teeth on the cog.

0:08:16 > 0:08:19I've started putting the chain around the outside.

0:08:19 > 0:08:23There's different colours of cardboard so you can see the shapes.

0:08:23 > 0:08:27I'll start making the tubes to make the frame for the bike now.

0:08:31 > 0:08:34If you look at the cardboard, you can see it's got lines.

0:08:34 > 0:08:36It's much easier to bend the cardboard

0:08:36 > 0:08:40along these stripes this way rather than this way.

0:08:48 > 0:08:54There's the three tubes on the front of the frame one, two and three.

0:08:54 > 0:08:57The sculptures that I make are very accurate and precise

0:08:57 > 0:09:00so I need to look very carefully at the shapes I'm going to make.

0:09:00 > 0:09:02I use paper to make a template.

0:09:02 > 0:09:06This is going to be the template for the bike seat.

0:09:09 > 0:09:11This one I can cut out quite roughly

0:09:11 > 0:09:14because I'm going to need to make it a bit smaller anyway.

0:09:14 > 0:09:17Fit this second piece inside.

0:09:17 > 0:09:21Underneath, I've got the rail to hold it on, the bolts,

0:09:21 > 0:09:24I've got the little nameplate at the back.

0:09:41 > 0:09:45It's amazing with the things that you can do with cardboard

0:09:45 > 0:09:47and Chris' work has given me a great idea

0:09:47 > 0:09:50of what to do with Yuri's old boxes.

0:09:50 > 0:09:53Yuri, we were chatting about you having loads of pencils and pens

0:09:53 > 0:09:57and not really having a proper place to put them.

0:09:57 > 0:10:01So that gave me an idea to create something out of cardboard for you.

0:10:01 > 0:10:05Now, Chris Gilmore, the artist, made an amazing bicycle out of cardboard,

0:10:05 > 0:10:11so I thought we could make our very own scooter out of cardboard.

0:10:11 > 0:10:13But check this out. You can actually

0:10:13 > 0:10:17- hold your pencils and your pens inside.- Wow.- How cool is that?

0:10:17 > 0:10:19- So cool.- So are you up for making it?- Yeah.- Cool.

0:10:19 > 0:10:22It's really simple because, basically, it's just a series

0:10:22 > 0:10:26of different templates on thick pieces of cardboard.

0:10:26 > 0:10:29We'll start with the curved seat. Just like Chris Gilmore,

0:10:29 > 0:10:32draw the lines in the same direction as the cardboard lines.

0:10:32 > 0:10:36To create the curves that you've got on the curved seat here,

0:10:36 > 0:10:39grab a lid of an old jam jar or anything that you've got like that,

0:10:39 > 0:10:43just place it down on the corner and then just draw round it.

0:10:43 > 0:10:46Just means you get a nice curved line rather than a squiggly one.

0:10:50 > 0:10:54So you've got your basic shape there. Next, draw some tabs in.

0:10:54 > 0:10:57The tabs are going to make it easier to fix the pieces together.

0:10:57 > 0:11:01I bet you didn't think that when your grandma has been sending you

0:11:01 > 0:11:03all this cardboard over from Japan,

0:11:03 > 0:11:06- that you'd be making a scooter out of it.- Yeah, yeah.

0:11:06 > 0:11:10- Right, Yuri, are you happy to start cutting that out?- Yeah.

0:11:10 > 0:11:13Whilst you're cutting that, I'm going to move on to the next

0:11:13 > 0:11:17- section of the bike. So you're working on this bottom bit here.- OK.

0:11:17 > 0:11:20I'm going to work on the top part, which is where the hole is.

0:11:20 > 0:11:25So I'm just going to draw this long rectangle, and, like we said,

0:11:25 > 0:11:28we need a big hole in the middle of it to put all of your stationery.

0:11:28 > 0:11:31What's the best bit of stationery that you've got sent over?

0:11:31 > 0:11:35I really like the pens that they send over that you can rub out.

0:11:35 > 0:11:37- That sounds cool. - I think I'm done.

0:11:37 > 0:11:40Brilliant, and I've cut the hole out of this.

0:11:40 > 0:11:45We can start fixing these two pieces together. Fold along these lines,

0:11:45 > 0:11:48and a great thing that you can use is a ruler. So if you place

0:11:48 > 0:11:52your ruler along the line like that, lift that section of cardboard up,

0:11:52 > 0:11:55it just makes easier to bend. And the same with the tabs,

0:11:55 > 0:11:58but what we need to do with the tabs first,

0:11:58 > 0:12:02- is snip triangles along these lines, OK?- OK.

0:12:02 > 0:12:05One there, another snip here.

0:12:10 > 0:12:13Pop your ruler along the line and lift your tab up.

0:12:15 > 0:12:19Start folding these together, and if you hold that in position,

0:12:19 > 0:12:25I'm going to grab this and bend it so it curves, just like this one.

0:12:25 > 0:12:27Another top tip from Chris Gilmore

0:12:27 > 0:12:31is to make sure when you're bending corrugated cardboard,

0:12:31 > 0:12:34you bend along the grooves rather than across them.

0:12:34 > 0:12:37It just means it bends really, really nicely.

0:12:37 > 0:12:39And then we can stick these two together.

0:12:39 > 0:12:44We're using double-sided tape but you can also use a strong glue.

0:12:44 > 0:12:48OK, so now we've got the seat and an area that we can put

0:12:48 > 0:12:53our pens in. We need to build up the front panel - this section here -

0:12:53 > 0:12:57which is a large kind of rectangle curved at the top.

0:12:59 > 0:13:02So whilst you're cutting that out, I'm going to move on to the wheels.

0:13:02 > 0:13:06Corrugated cardboard is brilliant for these wheels because you can see

0:13:06 > 0:13:09- they've got the realistic tyre treads in them.- Yeah.

0:13:09 > 0:13:12To make the front wheel, we'll need eight circles.

0:13:12 > 0:13:15Now, the back wheel is half a circle

0:13:15 > 0:13:19so we'll only need four circles for that, which we'll cut in half.

0:13:19 > 0:13:21I think I'm done.

0:13:21 > 0:13:24You're done? Brilliant. So that is going to be our front panel

0:13:24 > 0:13:26and we'll fold that over and put it into position a bit later on.

0:13:26 > 0:13:31First, we're going to cut out all of the circles for the wheels

0:13:31 > 0:13:34and glue them together. Let's put those to one side for now

0:13:34 > 0:13:38because we can stick them on to the main body of the scooter

0:13:38 > 0:13:40once we've got this front panel sorted.

0:13:40 > 0:13:44- You can see here that it bends down and goes up again.- Oh, yeah.

0:13:44 > 0:13:48So, for that, we need to create a couple of folds.

0:13:48 > 0:13:51So again, we just need some double-sided sticky tape

0:13:51 > 0:13:53- to fix it together.- OK.

0:13:53 > 0:13:57And now we need to fix the wheels on, but before we do that, we want

0:13:57 > 0:14:01a groovy little wheel arch, just like this one. Just draw

0:14:01 > 0:14:05a rectangle with two little quarter segments cut out of it.

0:14:05 > 0:14:09You cut out the wheel arch and I'll focus on the handlebars.

0:14:09 > 0:14:13Find yourself a nice long bit of card and just cut a long,

0:14:13 > 0:14:17straight line. And then for the brakes, it's just tiny, little

0:14:17 > 0:14:20bits of cardboard, which you can stick at either end. There we go.

0:14:22 > 0:14:23All finished.

0:14:23 > 0:14:27Brilliant. So we can start sticking the wheel arch.

0:14:27 > 0:14:30And we're using glue to stick this onto our front panel.

0:14:32 > 0:14:35Let's glue the wheel under the arch

0:14:35 > 0:14:39and then exactly the same with the back wheel.

0:14:40 > 0:14:44You've got your handlebars, which can just stick behind there,

0:14:44 > 0:14:47and you can get another circular piece of card for the headlight

0:14:47 > 0:14:50if you want to stick that on. And remember, another little tip

0:14:50 > 0:14:53from Chris Gilmore is to use different shades of card,

0:14:53 > 0:14:55which helps to give your structure a bit more contrast.

0:14:55 > 0:14:58With all of the cardboard boxes that you've got, Yuri, you could

0:14:58 > 0:15:01- make a whole showroom of these bikes, couldn't you?- Yeah.

0:15:01 > 0:15:05So there we have it, your finished scooter pencil holder.

0:15:05 > 0:15:08- That's yours, Yuri.- Wow, thank you. - You can pop all of your pens and

0:15:08 > 0:15:11pencils in it. And if you don't fancy making a scooter, how about

0:15:11 > 0:15:14trying your very own campervan? Check this one out, you've got your

0:15:14 > 0:15:18pens, your paintbrushes, everything in the top roof, there.

0:15:18 > 0:15:20It's even got its own special little boot

0:15:20 > 0:15:23where you can put your paperclips in.

0:15:23 > 0:15:26And you could always try a convertible car.

0:15:26 > 0:15:30We've got our highlighters, our rubbers in the middle bit there.

0:15:30 > 0:15:33It's even got a bonnet, you can put your paperclips in there,

0:15:33 > 0:15:36you can even put elastic bands in the boot.

0:15:36 > 0:15:39That is very, very cool. So why not give it a go?

0:15:41 > 0:15:45To make a cardboard scooter desk tidy, here's what you have to do.

0:15:45 > 0:15:48Stage one - draw out the shapes you need

0:15:48 > 0:15:51onto your sheets of cardboard and then cut them out.

0:15:51 > 0:15:55Stage two - assemble the main body of your scooter.

0:15:57 > 0:16:01Stage three - attach the front of the scooter to the main body.

0:16:03 > 0:16:07Stage four - glue the circles together to make the wheels.

0:16:07 > 0:16:11Whole circles for the front wheel, half circles for the back.

0:16:11 > 0:16:15Stage five - add the wheel arch and glue the wheels on.

0:16:17 > 0:16:22Stage six - add finishing details like a headlight, handlebars

0:16:22 > 0:16:24and trim using thinner card.

0:16:30 > 0:16:32Still to come,

0:16:32 > 0:16:35we make a garden grow with thrown out plastic bottles.

0:16:35 > 0:16:38And we show you how to make a holder for your phone from an old tie.

0:16:38 > 0:16:40But first, Totally Famous.

0:16:41 > 0:16:45Introducing Vincent Van Gogh, totally famous for brightening

0:16:45 > 0:16:48the world with his Sunflowers and, not so brightly,

0:16:48 > 0:16:52getting his ear chopped off. Things weren't always sunny for Van Gogh,

0:16:52 > 0:16:56he often found himself short of cash. Know the feeling?

0:16:56 > 0:17:00So he had to find clever ways of making his art on the cheap.

0:17:00 > 0:17:04The answer - tea towels, which Van Gogh often used

0:17:04 > 0:17:08when he didn't have any canvas. Resourceful, Vincent. Liking it.

0:17:10 > 0:17:14But money wasn't the only thing that Vincent Van Gogh found

0:17:14 > 0:17:16himself without. Notice anything?

0:17:18 > 0:17:22Some say he cut his ear off himself. Ouch!

0:17:22 > 0:17:25Others say it was an angry artist mate of his called Paul Gauguin,

0:17:25 > 0:17:29who lopped off the lobe with his sword.

0:17:29 > 0:17:33Either way, it must have hurt, as does the next bit of news.

0:17:33 > 0:17:37Amazingly, despite painting so many great and colourful works of art,

0:17:37 > 0:17:41Van Gogh only sold this one painting, called The Red Vineyard,

0:17:41 > 0:17:44in his entire lifetime.

0:17:44 > 0:17:48And today, his works sell for millions of pounds each.

0:17:48 > 0:17:51So please, give it up for the totally famous,

0:17:51 > 0:17:54though not until long after his death, Vincent Van Gogh.

0:18:03 > 0:18:07Today, we are going to make a tie phone-holder using an old tie,

0:18:07 > 0:18:11a piece of sticky fastener, some double-sided tape

0:18:11 > 0:18:13and some old buttons.

0:18:13 > 0:18:18First you get the tie, unpick the stitching from the back of tie

0:18:18 > 0:18:22and then you put your phone inside the tie.

0:18:22 > 0:18:26- They can't see it. - But the phone will fall out.

0:18:26 > 0:18:28- Well, don't put the phone in, then.- OK.

0:18:30 > 0:18:34Pull the rest of the tie towards the wider end.

0:18:34 > 0:18:36You cut the bit that you just put over.

0:18:36 > 0:18:39Your dad's looking for his tie and you say you cut it up to

0:18:39 > 0:18:43make a cellphone case, you're going to be in trouble.

0:18:46 > 0:18:48Then you get the double-sided tape.

0:18:48 > 0:18:51Stick the pieces of the tie together.

0:18:51 > 0:18:53Make sure it's quite neat, though.

0:18:53 > 0:18:56- How's it going, Michelle?- Fine.

0:18:56 > 0:19:00Once you've done that, you get the Velcro pieces

0:19:00 > 0:19:03and stick it on the underside of the flap.

0:19:03 > 0:19:07And then you put it over and you see where it fits.

0:19:07 > 0:19:12Where it fits, you get your other piece, and you put it about there.

0:19:13 > 0:19:19- And make sure it sticks like that. - And there's your phone case.

0:19:19 > 0:19:23If you want, you can decorate it with an old button.

0:19:23 > 0:19:26- There you go.- Nice work.- Thank you.

0:19:55 > 0:19:58What can you make from a bin bag full of rubbish?

0:19:58 > 0:20:01- I have another bag of goodies. - Let's see what's in there.

0:20:03 > 0:20:04What's going on here, then?

0:20:04 > 0:20:09I'm going to show you how to make something that is cool for school.

0:20:09 > 0:20:13You'll need an old folder, a tatty, unwanted pair of jeans,

0:20:13 > 0:20:19some ribbon, some leftover felt, a pair of scissors,

0:20:19 > 0:20:22some double-sided tape and some buttons.

0:20:24 > 0:20:27We're going to make one of these.

0:20:27 > 0:20:30- That is awesome! So the jeans cover the folder.- You like it?

0:20:30 > 0:20:33That's ace! You will be the coolest kid in class with one of them.

0:20:33 > 0:20:36- Definitely.- Yeah, you would.- Shall we make it?- Yeah, let's make it.

0:20:36 > 0:20:41Get an old pair of tatty jeans like these, got holes in the knees

0:20:41 > 0:20:45- and whatever.- Yeah.- Lay them out like this with the front on.

0:20:45 > 0:20:49Then take the folder that you're going to use. You want to line

0:20:49 > 0:20:51the folder up with the top of your jeans

0:20:51 > 0:20:55- and then you see where the bottom of the folder is?- Yeah.

0:20:55 > 0:20:59Cut off the legs about three or four centimetres below that.

0:20:59 > 0:21:03There is something quite nice about cutting up an old pair of jeans.

0:21:03 > 0:21:07- There you go.- OK.- We want to take the zip off the front

0:21:07 > 0:21:10and some of this thick stitching here on the front of the jeans.

0:21:10 > 0:21:13So we are going to cut from the bottom here

0:21:13 > 0:21:15all the way to the top, along that line,

0:21:15 > 0:21:19- and we are going to do the same on the other side.- Yeah.- OK.

0:21:19 > 0:21:23Don't throw anything away. You may need the zip for a future project.

0:21:26 > 0:21:29Next, we need to attach this to our folder.

0:21:29 > 0:21:33I've put some double-sided tape all the way round my folder

0:21:33 > 0:21:38so there's some there, some on the spine, some on the back.

0:21:38 > 0:21:41It's totally covered in double-sided tape, yeah?

0:21:41 > 0:21:46Now line up the spine of the folder with the middle of the jeans here.

0:21:46 > 0:21:49And line up the top with the top of your jeans here.

0:21:49 > 0:21:52Stick that down. Fold in the sides and...

0:21:52 > 0:21:55- RAPS:- Stick it down and wrap it around.- You're making songs up?

0:21:55 > 0:21:58- Yeah.- Then neaten up the edges.

0:21:58 > 0:22:02What you should have, once you've done that, is something like this.

0:22:02 > 0:22:06Hey, that's completely transformed it, hasn't it?

0:22:06 > 0:22:11Now all you have to do is use some old ribbon and double-sided tape

0:22:11 > 0:22:15or glue to cover up the frayed edges of the denim on the inside cover.

0:22:15 > 0:22:18Then, to personalise it even more, I clipped a glitter ball

0:22:18 > 0:22:22keyring to a belt loop, glued a felt Union Jack to the pocket,

0:22:22 > 0:22:24and stuck on a few buttons.

0:22:24 > 0:22:28And then the best part, you can use the pocket to put your pens in,

0:22:28 > 0:22:33- your pencils, anything you need for school.- That's so cool. So useful.

0:22:33 > 0:22:39- It's cool.- I know.- This idea can work with more than just blue jeans.

0:22:39 > 0:22:44Have fun with your own colours and decorations to really make it yours.

0:22:44 > 0:22:47- Nice presents, as well. - Yeah, you want one?

0:22:47 > 0:22:49- Yeah, I do actually, yeah. - I bet you want one, too.

0:22:55 > 0:22:57Nom-nom-nom-nom.

0:22:57 > 0:22:58BELCHING

0:22:58 > 0:23:00Looking good, Vin.

0:23:00 > 0:23:03Thanks, Min. It's all in the jeans!

0:23:03 > 0:23:06Can you believe, Vin, that in the UK, we throw away enough clothes

0:23:06 > 0:23:10- every year to fill Wembley Stadium? - Yeah, yeah, never mind all that.

0:23:10 > 0:23:14Look, what are a ghost's favourite jeans?

0:23:14 > 0:23:16I give up.

0:23:16 > 0:23:22Boo jeans! Ha! Get it? Boo jeans! Ha-ha-ha!

0:23:22 > 0:23:24HE GROANS

0:23:29 > 0:23:33Here's a pile of empty plastic bottles and cartons.

0:23:33 > 0:23:37Here's Michelle having a drink out of a water bottle.

0:23:37 > 0:23:39And here's me doing my bit.

0:23:41 > 0:23:46Oh, and here are Gizmarc and Becky tidying up this old unused space.

0:23:46 > 0:23:48But what are they doing that for?

0:23:48 > 0:23:51We're just cleaning this messed up garden in our school.

0:23:51 > 0:23:54We would like to make it look pretty again but we're not sure what to do.

0:23:54 > 0:23:57So what do we all have in common?

0:23:57 > 0:24:01Us, bottles. Kids, bottles. Kids, us. Kids, us, bottles.

0:24:01 > 0:24:05This brilliant bottle garden, that's what. And here's how we did it.

0:24:07 > 0:24:12To make some bottle flowers, cut the bottom off a plastic bottle

0:24:12 > 0:24:16and then cut little petals into them. Cut down to the neck of the bottle.

0:24:16 > 0:24:18Any shape you want to cut, you can cut,

0:24:18 > 0:24:23anything you think is going to make your flower look a bit special.

0:24:24 > 0:24:28Oh, that's a nice one, there's some good petals, there.

0:24:31 > 0:24:34- I think my favourite bit is putting the paint on.- Yeah.

0:24:34 > 0:24:35It just brings it to life.

0:24:37 > 0:24:40- What colour are you going for? - Orange!

0:24:46 > 0:24:50- Are we happy with this one? - Yeah, it's great.- Yeah.

0:24:50 > 0:24:53Paint the bottle brown, get rid of the lid.

0:24:53 > 0:24:56- It will look like a palm tree.- This girl is on it!

0:24:58 > 0:25:02Are you excited to see what it's going to look like at the end?

0:25:02 > 0:25:05- The garden will be great.- I'll tell you one thing, it's going to be very

0:25:05 > 0:25:08- colourful.- Yeah, definitely. - It will stand out, won't it?

0:25:08 > 0:25:11- I've finished.- That looks amazing. - Finished mine, too.

0:25:11 > 0:25:13Really, really good. Funky flowers.

0:25:17 > 0:25:20I'm going to show you how to make a cactus.

0:25:20 > 0:25:25Get yourself an old plastic bottle like this and you cut the top off.

0:25:25 > 0:25:30Now, the rice is to make sure that it's got some weight in it.

0:25:30 > 0:25:33Get another bottle that's roughly the same sort of size,

0:25:33 > 0:25:38place it inside the other bottle, like this.

0:25:38 > 0:25:41Cut a little hole. Be really careful with your scissors,

0:25:41 > 0:25:44and just slot that inside.

0:25:44 > 0:25:47You can put more bottles in different sides

0:25:47 > 0:25:50and then, once you've got your big cactus shape, paint it.

0:25:52 > 0:25:55An old bicycle wheel and then just some plastic bottles stuck all

0:25:55 > 0:25:58the way around it. I bet when the wind blows, as well, it will just

0:25:58 > 0:26:03turn and it'll catch the light and will look really, really nice.

0:26:03 > 0:26:06We've used an old tennis ball, and then we got some lids,

0:26:06 > 0:26:09and then we stuck it on and now we're just screwing it on.

0:26:09 > 0:26:11How do you think it's all going to look

0:26:11 > 0:26:14- when it gets put into the garden? - It's going to look new

0:26:14 > 0:26:17because before it was just an old, rubbish place.

0:26:17 > 0:26:22- Is it a better thing to do with your old plastic bottles?- Definitely.

0:26:30 > 0:26:31It's starting to take shape.

0:26:33 > 0:26:35(Everyone's concentrating.)

0:26:38 > 0:26:41- I think this is cooler than a real cactus, don't you think?- Yeah.

0:26:57 > 0:27:01- It's not as messy as it was before. - I think it's amazing!

0:27:01 > 0:27:05I'm very proud of everyone. They made it look really beautiful.

0:27:05 > 0:27:08- And all made from a load of old plastic bottles.- Love it.

0:27:16 > 0:27:19- That's about all from us.- We'll see you next time on Totally Rubbish.

0:27:19 > 0:27:22- ALL:- Bye!

0:27:24 > 0:27:28So why don't you have a go at making your very own mock mess?

0:27:28 > 0:27:31Or a cardboard scooter desk tidy.

0:27:32 > 0:27:35- A tie phone-holder. - Or a fashion folder.

0:27:38 > 0:27:41And start collecting your empty tin cans...

0:27:41 > 0:27:43..Old toys...

0:27:43 > 0:27:46..And magazines for next time on Totally Rubbish.
