0:00:02 > 0:00:03'I'm Nigel.'

0:00:04 > 0:00:06'I'm Michelle.'

0:00:08 > 0:00:11'We're going to show you how to turn useless rubbish...'

0:00:11 > 0:00:13What are you going to do with this lot?

0:00:13 > 0:00:15'..into amazing, useful stuff...'

0:00:15 > 0:00:16So cool.

0:00:16 > 0:00:18'..all here on...'

0:00:22 > 0:00:25Coming up, we meet an artist who makes fantastic

0:00:25 > 0:00:27animal sculptures from wood.

0:00:27 > 0:00:29We visit someone who wants to find

0:00:29 > 0:00:32a great use for her old driftwood.

0:00:32 > 0:00:34And we show you how to make

0:00:34 > 0:00:36a smashing spider pinata,

0:00:36 > 0:00:39all from stuff you throw away.

0:00:39 > 0:00:40But first... This...

0:00:41 > 0:00:43..is a daft disguise.

0:00:46 > 0:00:48'Here's looking at you.

0:00:48 > 0:00:49'Hi, handsome.'

0:00:52 > 0:00:55'Weren't expecting that, were you?'

0:00:57 > 0:00:59'Something funny?

0:01:01 > 0:01:03'What, do I smell?'

0:01:06 > 0:01:08'What are you looking at?'

0:01:11 > 0:01:13Nice work, Michelle.

0:01:13 > 0:01:14It was. I'll show you how it's done.

0:01:14 > 0:01:17'Yeah, I'm going to show you how to prank your mates

0:01:17 > 0:01:19'out of stuff you have lying around.'

0:01:19 > 0:01:23So, here's how you make your very own daft disguise.

0:01:23 > 0:01:24You need to grab yourself

0:01:24 > 0:01:25an old pair of sunglasses,

0:01:25 > 0:01:27perhaps some that are scratched

0:01:27 > 0:01:28that you don't use any more,

0:01:28 > 0:01:30or maybe you've got a pair of

0:01:30 > 0:01:313D glasses from the cinema -

0:01:31 > 0:01:34this is the perfect chance to use them.

0:01:34 > 0:01:35Just put those to one side for the minute

0:01:35 > 0:01:38and get yourself a piece of old cardboard,

0:01:38 > 0:01:42maybe from an old cereal packet or something like that.

0:01:42 > 0:01:44Draw your disguise on it.

0:01:45 > 0:01:46Big eyebrows.

0:01:50 > 0:01:52Big fat nose.

0:01:54 > 0:01:57And for a disguise you want a big, bushy moustache, don't you?

0:01:57 > 0:01:59So, I'm going to draw one of them, as well.

0:02:04 > 0:02:06Once you've drawn your shapes on your card,

0:02:06 > 0:02:08all you need to do is cut them out.

0:02:13 > 0:02:15And once you've cut out all your shapes,

0:02:15 > 0:02:19you'll be left with your moustache,

0:02:19 > 0:02:20your nice big nose

0:02:20 > 0:02:22and eyebrows.

0:02:22 > 0:02:24Then, all you need to do is paint them

0:02:24 > 0:02:25in whatever colour you like.

0:02:25 > 0:02:28I've just added a bit more detail onto the nose with a marker pen

0:02:28 > 0:02:31and what I've done with the moustache and the nose is just

0:02:31 > 0:02:33stuck them together with a bit of sticky tape.

0:02:34 > 0:02:37Next, grab yourself a couple of straws.

0:02:37 > 0:02:40Now, the straws are going to allow the eyebrows to pop up

0:02:40 > 0:02:41once you blow through them,

0:02:41 > 0:02:43so it'll look really, really cool.

0:02:43 > 0:02:46Stick these straws to the back of the moustache and the nose.

0:02:46 > 0:02:48You just need to make sure that

0:02:48 > 0:02:49the bendy parts are sticking up

0:02:49 > 0:02:51like that, cos they're the bits

0:02:51 > 0:02:53that you're going to blow through.

0:02:57 > 0:03:00Then this bit here, you're just going to cut it off,

0:03:00 > 0:03:02cos you don't need it to be that long.

0:03:02 > 0:03:05And then you're going to add this part

0:03:05 > 0:03:08of your disguise to your sunglasses.

0:03:08 > 0:03:11So, grab yourself some sticky tape, a nice long bit,

0:03:11 > 0:03:12and you're going to stick this

0:03:12 > 0:03:16across the top end of the nose, like that.

0:03:16 > 0:03:18Then you're going to stick it down

0:03:18 > 0:03:20onto your glasses.

0:03:20 > 0:03:22It doesn't matter if the tape goes across the lens like that,

0:03:22 > 0:03:25cos it's see through, so it won't block your vision.

0:03:25 > 0:03:26There we go, the first part

0:03:26 > 0:03:28of our disguise is complete,

0:03:28 > 0:03:30and now we need to move on to the eyebrows.

0:03:30 > 0:03:33And what you need is some cotton wool buds, OK?

0:03:33 > 0:03:34So, I've got two here.

0:03:34 > 0:03:36All you're going to do is just

0:03:36 > 0:03:38pull off the cotton from either end,

0:03:38 > 0:03:41just pull it off like that

0:03:41 > 0:03:43and you'll be left, very cleverly,

0:03:43 > 0:03:46with two really thin straws, OK?

0:03:46 > 0:03:49Attach these thin straws

0:03:49 > 0:03:51onto the inner parts of each eyebrow.

0:03:51 > 0:03:53So, with a small bit of tape,

0:03:53 > 0:03:57stick the very thin straws onto your eyebrows.

0:03:59 > 0:04:01Just like that. Really simple.

0:04:01 > 0:04:03Grab yourself some thread

0:04:03 > 0:04:05and on each of the other ends,

0:04:05 > 0:04:07again with some sticky tape,

0:04:07 > 0:04:09you're just going to attach the thread.

0:04:09 > 0:04:11One bit there

0:04:11 > 0:04:12and one bit there.

0:04:12 > 0:04:17So, you will be left with something that looks like this.

0:04:17 > 0:04:20What you're going to do is attach these eyebrows

0:04:20 > 0:04:22onto your sunglasses.

0:04:22 > 0:04:26So, thread your smaller straw into your larger straw, like that.

0:04:26 > 0:04:27I'll do the same with this one.

0:04:29 > 0:04:32And then you're going to stick down your thread at either

0:04:32 > 0:04:34corner on your sunglasses

0:04:34 > 0:04:35and this just makes sure

0:04:35 > 0:04:37that the pop-up eyebrows don't pop off,

0:04:37 > 0:04:39cos that wouldn't be good for your disguise.

0:04:39 > 0:04:42Stick down the thread,

0:04:42 > 0:04:43just like that,

0:04:43 > 0:04:47and then any excess bits, like this,

0:04:47 > 0:04:49just snip off.

0:04:49 > 0:04:51There you have your very

0:04:51 > 0:04:52daft disguise.

0:04:52 > 0:04:54I'm going to try it on,

0:04:54 > 0:04:56see if this baby works.

0:04:59 > 0:05:00SHE BLOWS THROUGH STRAWS

0:05:00 > 0:05:02With tongue.

0:05:02 > 0:05:04SHE BLOWS THROUGH STRAWS

0:05:04 > 0:05:05With big red nose.

0:05:05 > 0:05:07SHE BLOWS THROUGH STRAWS

0:05:07 > 0:05:08BOTH: Daft disguise!

0:05:17 > 0:05:18RAT MUNCHES CHEESE

0:05:18 > 0:05:19WHISKERS TWANG

0:05:19 > 0:05:21SPRAY CAN RATTLES

0:05:21 > 0:05:23SPRAY CAN HISSES

0:05:23 > 0:05:24BIRDS COO

0:05:49 > 0:05:52Did you know that 60,000 square kilometres

0:05:52 > 0:05:56of the world's forest are cut down every year?

0:05:56 > 0:05:58That's roughly...

0:05:59 > 0:06:02And I'm here to meet a girl who wants to work wonders

0:06:02 > 0:06:04with some washed up wood.

0:06:07 > 0:06:08Meet Harriet.

0:06:08 > 0:06:10She has an unusual collecting habit.

0:06:10 > 0:06:14Every year she goes on a seaside holiday to her nan's caravan

0:06:14 > 0:06:16and comes back with loads of bits and bobs that

0:06:16 > 0:06:18she's collected on the beach,

0:06:18 > 0:06:20including a whole lot of driftwood.

0:06:20 > 0:06:21But what can she do with it?

0:06:22 > 0:06:24So, Harriet, what's the deal? How can we help?

0:06:24 > 0:06:27I've got lots of driftwood that I found near the sea

0:06:27 > 0:06:28at my nan's caravan.

0:06:28 > 0:06:30- And you don't know what to do with it?- No.

0:06:30 > 0:06:33- What else are you into? - I love all animals.

0:06:33 > 0:06:34So, you love all animals

0:06:34 > 0:06:39and you've got a load of driftwood that's just knocking around?

0:06:39 > 0:06:43Well, I think I might have the perfect person to help us out.

0:06:43 > 0:06:45Check this.

0:06:52 > 0:06:54I'm Heather Jansch and I make horses

0:06:54 > 0:06:56largely out of driftwood and oak.

0:06:56 > 0:06:59And today I'm going to show you how you can make something

0:06:59 > 0:07:01fairly simple from bits of driftwood.

0:07:22 > 0:07:25'Here I am on the beach, just picking up

0:07:25 > 0:07:27'whatever I can find, really.'

0:07:27 > 0:07:30I'm looking for as wide a variety

0:07:30 > 0:07:32of textures and shapes

0:07:32 > 0:07:33and colours as I can find.

0:07:36 > 0:07:38- Barney is my assistant. - What are we doing?

0:07:38 > 0:07:41Today, we're going to be doing something fast, something fun.

0:07:42 > 0:07:43It's like a throat.

0:07:47 > 0:07:50This piece could be the back.

0:07:50 > 0:07:52Then how I start is to lay pieces

0:07:52 > 0:07:53of wood out on the floor.

0:07:53 > 0:07:55It's very much about trial and error.

0:07:55 > 0:07:57Looks as though it needs a haircut.

0:07:57 > 0:07:59It looks as though it's got a mohican.

0:07:59 > 0:08:01If you pull it more towards the door, bit more.

0:08:01 > 0:08:03Drop it down there, like that.

0:08:03 > 0:08:06I think we need to look for something else in here.

0:08:06 > 0:08:08This bit reminds me

0:08:08 > 0:08:10of a mane blowing in the breeze.

0:08:10 > 0:08:11I've got a hat.

0:08:11 > 0:08:13- Nice little bonnet.- Bonnet.

0:08:16 > 0:08:18Might be part of the head.

0:08:19 > 0:08:22Try that in the mane, there.

0:08:22 > 0:08:24I can't find the right bit for that leg.

0:08:26 > 0:08:29I think that I've got enough on the floor, now, to start tying

0:08:29 > 0:08:31together, so then we can suspend it,

0:08:31 > 0:08:33cos that's when I'll really be able to see where it's going.

0:08:34 > 0:08:39I like to use wire which you can bend and will hold its form.

0:08:39 > 0:08:40CHAIN SAW BUZZES

0:08:40 > 0:08:43Very often when you cut a piece of wood, you end up with

0:08:43 > 0:08:45an entirely new shape, something you've not seen before.

0:08:45 > 0:08:47Mightn't be a really nice ear.

0:08:47 > 0:08:50Chain saw gloves - really important

0:08:50 > 0:08:52cos chain saws are so dangerous.

0:08:55 > 0:08:56DRILL BUZZES

0:08:56 > 0:08:59We now need to firm up the fixings,

0:08:59 > 0:09:02so that the whole structure hangs together properly.

0:09:05 > 0:09:07It's coming straight down through the body

0:09:07 > 0:09:09and so now this horse has got three legs.

0:09:09 > 0:09:11Well, let's see what happens.

0:09:11 > 0:09:13CHAIN RATTLES

0:09:15 > 0:09:19Well, hello. And what's your name?

0:09:19 > 0:09:20"Speedy Gonzales!"

0:09:20 > 0:09:23I think we'll have to do some adjustments in the head,

0:09:23 > 0:09:24now that I've got it up.

0:09:24 > 0:09:25It looks a bit strange.

0:09:30 > 0:09:33We're going to have to bring this further out.

0:09:39 > 0:09:41We can begin by giving him a haircut.

0:09:43 > 0:09:47I think I've done as much with this horse, now, inside as I want to.

0:09:47 > 0:09:49'I'd like to take it outside,

0:09:49 > 0:09:52'suspend it underneath my favourite oak tree.'

0:09:53 > 0:09:55Ah, so, there we are.

0:09:55 > 0:09:57I think it's not bad for a day's work.

0:09:57 > 0:09:59I'll probably fiddle with it a little bit

0:09:59 > 0:10:00but, pretty much, he's there.

0:10:03 > 0:10:05NIGEL: It's wicked how Heather creates amazing sculptures

0:10:05 > 0:10:08from old wood that she finds and her work's going to be

0:10:08 > 0:10:09a great inspiration for

0:10:09 > 0:10:11how we can help Harriet.

0:10:13 > 0:10:15I thought maybe we could make

0:10:15 > 0:10:17a driftwood shark?

0:10:17 > 0:10:18Yeah, that's a good idea.

0:10:18 > 0:10:20Yeah?

0:10:20 > 0:10:22Could you draw a shark for me?

0:10:22 > 0:10:24Your best shark.

0:10:24 > 0:10:26Nice fins. Oh, and the teeth in, as well

0:10:27 > 0:10:28Is that OK?

0:10:28 > 0:10:30Yeah, that's perfect.

0:10:30 > 0:10:33We'll use this as the template, yeah?

0:10:33 > 0:10:37Now, Heather Jansch suggested that you collect a good variety of wood

0:10:37 > 0:10:40and I can see that you've already done that, so we're halfway there.

0:10:40 > 0:10:44Feel free to grab any bits of wood here and see if we can make

0:10:44 > 0:10:48a sort of shark shape, bearing in mind your little drawing, here.

0:10:48 > 0:10:51So, as Heather said, you need to spend some time

0:10:51 > 0:10:55arranging your wood into a shape.

0:10:59 > 0:11:01So, when you go down to your gran's caravan next, are you going to

0:11:01 > 0:11:03change the way you look at things?

0:11:03 > 0:11:05Yeah, definitely.

0:11:05 > 0:11:07I'll be looking for interesting shapes to make things with.

0:11:07 > 0:11:09Ah.

0:11:09 > 0:11:12It's starting to build up

0:11:12 > 0:11:14and get a bit more three-dimensional, which I like.

0:11:14 > 0:11:15Do you like that?

0:11:15 > 0:11:17Yeah. It looks a bit bare here.

0:11:17 > 0:11:18Oh, yeah.

0:11:18 > 0:11:22Do you think you can find something that might work as a fin?

0:11:22 > 0:11:23How about this?

0:11:23 > 0:11:25Yeah, that'll work.

0:11:25 > 0:11:27I've got some shells and rocks here.

0:11:27 > 0:11:29Do you think any of them will be good as an eye?

0:11:29 > 0:11:31Um...maybe this one.

0:11:33 > 0:11:35Next, stick our design

0:11:35 > 0:11:37onto a piece of card.

0:11:37 > 0:11:39Now, spread some glue all over

0:11:39 > 0:11:41the card and then you gently

0:11:41 > 0:11:43and slowly move the pieces across,

0:11:43 > 0:11:46- so that we just move our shark onto the card.- OK.

0:11:53 > 0:11:54It's looking really good.

0:11:54 > 0:11:55It is, isn't it?

0:11:55 > 0:11:58OK, now that it's all stuck,

0:11:58 > 0:11:59let it dry.

0:12:01 > 0:12:03OK, I think this might be ready,

0:12:03 > 0:12:06- so shall we do the test?- Yeah.

0:12:06 > 0:12:07This is it, the moment of truth.

0:12:07 > 0:12:09Will it all stay on?

0:12:10 > 0:12:11We're good to go.

0:12:11 > 0:12:13All right, the next thing we need to do

0:12:13 > 0:12:15is to cut out our design.

0:12:15 > 0:12:17We need to cut away

0:12:17 > 0:12:19the card that's extra.

0:12:26 > 0:12:28That looks like a good shark, if you ask me.

0:12:28 > 0:12:30Yeah, it looks good.

0:12:30 > 0:12:33We need to take an old hanger

0:12:33 > 0:12:34that we're not using any more

0:12:34 > 0:12:36and we're going to stick it

0:12:36 > 0:12:38to the back of our shark.

0:12:38 > 0:12:41Stick it somewhere like that, upside down,

0:12:41 > 0:12:44so the hook hangs underneath

0:12:44 > 0:12:45and then you can hang things on it.

0:12:49 > 0:12:51OK, let's have a look.

0:12:53 > 0:12:55There we have it,

0:12:55 > 0:12:57our driftwood shark hook.

0:12:59 > 0:13:01- I think we need to hang it somewhere. What do you reckon?- Yeah.

0:13:01 > 0:13:02OK, let's go.

0:13:04 > 0:13:07So, Harriet, I've attached some string to the back,

0:13:07 > 0:13:08so that we can hang it up.

0:13:08 > 0:13:11Now you've chosen your place, let's go for it.

0:13:12 > 0:13:14Nice.

0:13:18 > 0:13:20There you go.

0:13:20 > 0:13:23Next time you're on the beach or in the park, why don't you

0:13:23 > 0:13:24think about what you can make?

0:13:26 > 0:13:28To make your shark hook,

0:13:28 > 0:13:30this is what you have to do.

0:13:31 > 0:13:33Stage one - plan your design

0:13:33 > 0:13:34by drawing it out on paper.

0:13:38 > 0:13:40Stage two - arrange the wood

0:13:40 > 0:13:42in the shape of your shark.

0:13:47 > 0:13:49Stage three - glue the wood

0:13:49 > 0:13:50to a piece of cardboard.

0:13:52 > 0:13:55Stage four - add detail, like an eye.

0:13:59 > 0:14:01Stage five - cut off the excess

0:14:01 > 0:14:03cardboard from around your shark.

0:14:07 > 0:14:09Stage six - attach a coat hanger

0:14:09 > 0:14:10and some string.

0:14:17 > 0:14:20Still to come, we meet an artist

0:14:20 > 0:14:21who turns thrown away

0:14:21 > 0:14:23chewing gum into art.

0:14:23 > 0:14:26And we show you how to make a cool

0:14:26 > 0:14:28picture frame from an old CD case.

0:14:28 > 0:14:31But first, Totally Famous.

0:14:31 > 0:14:34Introducing Chris Ofili,

0:14:34 > 0:14:36totally famous for putting

0:14:36 > 0:14:38poo into his paintings.

0:14:38 > 0:14:40Yeah, you heard me.

0:14:40 > 0:14:42One of Britain's most successful contemporary artists

0:14:42 > 0:14:46first made it big by taking recycling to the extreme.

0:14:46 > 0:14:48Why waste brand new paint

0:14:48 > 0:14:50when there's loads of elephant poo lying around?

0:14:52 > 0:14:56Chris has also mixed balls of elephant poo with more colourful

0:14:56 > 0:14:58materials, like paints, sequins,

0:14:58 > 0:15:01napkins or pages from old comics.

0:15:01 > 0:15:03Rap and hip hop has also

0:15:03 > 0:15:06influenced a lot of Chris' work,

0:15:06 > 0:15:08with many pieces being created

0:15:08 > 0:15:10whilst listening to it very loud.

0:15:10 > 0:15:13Bet his neighbours love him.

0:15:13 > 0:15:14Chris didn't just use

0:15:14 > 0:15:15poo in his paintings

0:15:15 > 0:15:17but as stands for them

0:15:17 > 0:15:18to sit on, too.

0:15:18 > 0:15:21More recently, though, he's ditched the doo-doo

0:15:21 > 0:15:24and picked up his paintbrush instead.

0:15:24 > 0:15:26Poo is simply passe.

0:15:27 > 0:15:30Still, though, it was Chris' poopy pictures that won him

0:15:30 > 0:15:32the Turner prize in 1998

0:15:32 > 0:15:35and a tidy cheque for 20 grand,

0:15:35 > 0:15:37and that's not to be sniffed at.

0:15:39 > 0:15:40So, let's hear it for the

0:15:40 > 0:15:42totally famous Chris Ofili.

0:15:50 > 0:15:52Today we'll be making

0:15:52 > 0:15:54a CD case photo frame,

0:15:54 > 0:15:56using an old CD case

0:15:56 > 0:15:58and some old paper -

0:15:58 > 0:15:59the more colourful the better.

0:15:59 > 0:16:01First thing you need to do is

0:16:01 > 0:16:04you need to get a hole punch.

0:16:04 > 0:16:07You get the paper, then you just punch holes in it.

0:16:08 > 0:16:10I chose this one cos it's my favourite colour.

0:16:10 > 0:16:12Keep punching.

0:16:12 > 0:16:14Punch as many holes as you can.

0:16:19 > 0:16:21And keep punching.

0:16:22 > 0:16:24How are you getting on, Nigel?

0:16:24 > 0:16:26I love putting holes in purple paper,

0:16:26 > 0:16:28cos putting holes in purple paper is pretty fun.

0:16:30 > 0:16:33THEY LAUGH

0:16:33 > 0:16:35I think we've got enough now.

0:16:35 > 0:16:37Let's tip them out.

0:16:39 > 0:16:41Now we've punched our holes,

0:16:41 > 0:16:43let's decorate our CD case.

0:16:43 > 0:16:46We need to use glue to put around the edges.

0:16:46 > 0:16:48It has to be pretty thick.

0:16:48 > 0:16:49But make sure you don't do it

0:16:49 > 0:16:51in the middle, cos otherwise it

0:16:51 > 0:16:53will look like there's a bunch of glue all over your picture.

0:16:55 > 0:16:56This is what it should

0:16:56 > 0:16:58look like after you're done.

0:16:58 > 0:17:00Then you get the hole-punched paper,

0:17:00 > 0:17:02put it onto the glue.

0:17:04 > 0:17:05Now you've got to push it down

0:17:05 > 0:17:07a bit to make it stick.

0:17:09 > 0:17:11It's just all sticky.

0:17:11 > 0:17:13Now it's time to tip them all off.

0:17:15 > 0:17:19Oh, no, it's gone everywhere!

0:17:19 > 0:17:21Now you slot your picture

0:17:21 > 0:17:24behind the tabs in the CD case.

0:17:24 > 0:17:25And there you have it.

0:17:25 > 0:17:28Your very own CD case photo frame.

0:17:28 > 0:17:30We look great.

0:17:30 > 0:17:33The best thing about making this is you can store

0:17:33 > 0:17:34loads of pictures in it.

0:17:34 > 0:17:37It's really easy to make and it's really fun

0:17:37 > 0:17:39cos it's all really messy.

0:17:39 > 0:17:41THEY LAUGH

0:17:53 > 0:17:55HORN HONKS

0:18:06 > 0:18:08'What can you make from a big bag full of rubbish?

0:18:08 > 0:18:10'Just have a look at this.'

0:18:10 > 0:18:12Right, check this out.

0:18:14 > 0:18:16What are you going to do with all this rubbish?

0:18:16 > 0:18:19I'm going to show you how to create something that'll

0:18:19 > 0:18:21make your party go with a smash.

0:18:21 > 0:18:22You'll need some bin bags,

0:18:22 > 0:18:25two leftover balloons,

0:18:25 > 0:18:26old newspaper,

0:18:26 > 0:18:28stiff cardboard,

0:18:28 > 0:18:30PVA glue,

0:18:30 > 0:18:31tape,

0:18:31 > 0:18:33scissors,

0:18:33 > 0:18:35napkins

0:18:35 > 0:18:37and some bottle tops.

0:18:39 > 0:18:41Guess what we're going to make.

0:18:41 > 0:18:42I have no idea.

0:18:42 > 0:18:43A spider pinata.

0:18:43 > 0:18:45Now, you might have seen these at parties.

0:18:45 > 0:18:47They're full of sweets

0:18:47 > 0:18:49and everyone helps to smash them up.

0:18:49 > 0:18:52We're going to start with two balloons.

0:18:52 > 0:18:53- Big one for the body...- OK.

0:18:53 > 0:18:55..and a small one for the head.

0:18:57 > 0:19:01If you get an old bowl, you can rest your balloons in the bowl

0:19:01 > 0:19:04like that, because what we're going to do is get some old newspaper

0:19:04 > 0:19:08- and some glue, and cover the balloons.- OK, cool.- Innit.

0:19:08 > 0:19:10This just helps to rest it rather than holding it.

0:19:10 > 0:19:11It just gets really tricky.

0:19:11 > 0:19:14- Right, you've got a little pedestal for your balloon.- That's it.

0:19:14 > 0:19:18You get yourself some glue, slosh it all over your balloon.

0:19:18 > 0:19:22- Slop the glue on.- Slop it on, slop it on, and get your newspaper on.

0:19:22 > 0:19:25- You do that?- Yeah, I reckon I got that.- Are you happy with that?

0:19:25 > 0:19:28- I'll hold this, it's blowing away. - Yeah, we need more hands, more hands.

0:19:28 > 0:19:29- More hands.- We need spider's hands.

0:19:29 > 0:19:32Make sure you cover the balloon with two or three layers of paper

0:19:32 > 0:19:34and glue, and soon...

0:19:34 > 0:19:38- you will have something that looks like this.- Oh, wicked.

0:19:38 > 0:19:42Dried. You've got your balloons inside and I love this bit.

0:19:42 > 0:19:45When you're gluing with paper and balloons,

0:19:45 > 0:19:48you pop the balloon inside once it's dry.

0:19:50 > 0:19:52- Oh.- Hey!- Good bit of popping.

0:19:52 > 0:19:55And then you're going to stick the head to the body with

0:19:55 > 0:19:56a bit of sticky tape.

0:19:56 > 0:19:59You just want to get your sticky tape all the way around.

0:19:59 > 0:20:01You don't want your head rolling off,

0:20:01 > 0:20:04it wouldn't be good for the party. Now we need the legs, OK?

0:20:04 > 0:20:07- Indeed we do.- So I've got an old piece of cardboard

0:20:07 > 0:20:11and I'm going to draw my leg shape on it.

0:20:11 > 0:20:13- OK.- Nice and long.

0:20:15 > 0:20:17Cut it out with a pair of scissors

0:20:17 > 0:20:21- and then you can use this as a template for seven more.- OK.

0:20:21 > 0:20:25- So that's what we've got here. You're done.- Boom.- Boom.

0:20:25 > 0:20:28Next bit, is you're going to start covering your spider

0:20:28 > 0:20:31and I love this bit. It's going to end up looking like this.

0:20:31 > 0:20:32Let me show you how I did it.

0:20:34 > 0:20:38So, squares of bin bag. Line them up in a row,

0:20:38 > 0:20:40just like that.

0:20:42 > 0:20:46- OK.- Get your sticky tape and put it on the end

0:20:46 > 0:20:48- and then you've got a strip. Yeah?- OK.

0:20:48 > 0:20:51- And then you can just start sticking the strips on.- Sticking those.

0:20:51 > 0:20:53- Just stick it down. - There you go.- Like that.

0:20:53 > 0:20:56- Oh, right, so you get the effect. - So it creates the roughly effect.

0:20:56 > 0:21:00And also, it's just a lot quicker than sticking one by one by one.

0:21:00 > 0:21:03And then all you need to do is stick your legs to your body.

0:21:03 > 0:21:06- So we can do that. A bit of teamwork required here.- OK.

0:21:06 > 0:21:09- So, what, about there? - Yeah, that's perfect.

0:21:09 > 0:21:11Stick it down.

0:21:13 > 0:21:18- Yeah.- Let's do another one. You're doing it.

0:21:18 > 0:21:21So you're going to stick your legs all the way around.

0:21:21 > 0:21:24- Yeah.- Once you've done that, your spider is basically there.

0:21:24 > 0:21:27But I've added a few extra little bits. Follow me.

0:21:27 > 0:21:30- To add in a bit more detail.- Yeah.

0:21:30 > 0:21:33I've just got some old tissue, some old napkins, again, the same

0:21:33 > 0:21:38technique - into squares. Added it to the legs

0:21:38 > 0:21:40and along the top bit here,

0:21:40 > 0:21:44just to make it look a bit more creative. And then for the eye,

0:21:44 > 0:21:47- I've just got an old bottle-top, a bit of marker pen.- Oh, wicked!

0:21:47 > 0:21:50Add some colour and then just stick it on, like that.

0:21:51 > 0:21:54But the best bit, if we turn it around...

0:21:54 > 0:21:58I've made a hole in the back, just cut a really simple hole,

0:21:58 > 0:22:02and then add in all of your sweets.

0:22:02 > 0:22:06- Your sweet treats as a prize. - That's it. Close up the hole.

0:22:06 > 0:22:10And if spiders aren't your thing, you could make a green bug.

0:22:12 > 0:22:14Or a butterfly.

0:22:15 > 0:22:19And the best part of it all is that they're a lot of fun.

0:22:19 > 0:22:21- Here's your stick. - What, are we going to...?

0:22:21 > 0:22:25It's time to party. Let's getting smashing. Three...

0:22:25 > 0:22:28- OK, here we go.- Two. One!

0:22:31 > 0:22:35THEY LAUGH AND CHEER

0:22:36 > 0:22:38BOTH: Sweets!

0:22:42 > 0:22:44Nom-nom-nom...

0:22:44 > 0:22:45HE BELCHES

0:22:45 > 0:22:51Ooh! I'm feeling full, I've ballooned right up, here.

0:22:51 > 0:22:55Don't worry, Vin, your average balloon is 100% biodegradable

0:22:55 > 0:22:58and is made from the sap of the rubber tree.

0:22:58 > 0:23:00So when they get binned, they naturally rot away.

0:23:00 > 0:23:04Great, I'll be able to eat another load soon, then.

0:23:04 > 0:23:07Here, what did the balloon say when it needed the toilet?

0:23:07 > 0:23:11I don't know, what did the balloon say when it needed the toilet?

0:23:11 > 0:23:13Hurry up, I'm bursting!

0:23:13 > 0:23:15THEY LAUGH

0:23:15 > 0:23:17BURSTING BALLOONS POP

0:23:17 > 0:23:18Oh.

0:23:24 > 0:23:29It was so big, though, I mean, the scale of it was just...

0:23:29 > 0:23:30Michelle, what are you doing?

0:23:30 > 0:23:33Look at this. You see, big doesn't always mean beautiful, Nigel.

0:23:33 > 0:23:34Small things can be, too.

0:23:34 > 0:23:38And I know a guy who makes mini things look amazing.

0:23:38 > 0:23:40Come on, let's see what we can find.

0:23:53 > 0:23:57- Here he is. Hey, Ben.- Hi, there. - So what's going on here, then?

0:23:57 > 0:24:00Well, I'm just in the middle of doing a chewing gum picture.

0:24:00 > 0:24:02An old bit of chewing gum

0:24:02 > 0:24:05and you've created an amazing picture from it.

0:24:05 > 0:24:08- That's pretty cool. - Where did you get the idea from?

0:24:08 > 0:24:10For years, I've been an environmental artist working in

0:24:10 > 0:24:12various woodland areas, building sculptures

0:24:12 > 0:24:15and I was always picking up people's rubbish.

0:24:15 > 0:24:17And then I saw this chewing gum, that's just another thing.

0:24:17 > 0:24:19Oh, isn't it terrible?

0:24:22 > 0:24:25Then I thought, "No, actually, I can use it, transform it

0:24:25 > 0:24:27"into something more positive."

0:24:27 > 0:24:30Also, it allowed me to work in a more random way,

0:24:30 > 0:24:33because it's not against the law if you paint on the chewing gum.

0:24:33 > 0:24:35Hidden art in the streets of London,

0:24:35 > 0:24:39a little miniature picture, which people can come across in there own

0:24:39 > 0:24:43time and then try to work out what it is, so it's a bit like treasure.

0:24:43 > 0:24:46Yeah, it's like discovering it, isn't it? Discovering treasure.

0:24:46 > 0:24:48A gem or a jewel.

0:24:50 > 0:24:53So you've come across a piece of chewing gum. How do you go about

0:24:53 > 0:24:56- creating something like that? - First, I use my blowtorch.

0:24:56 > 0:25:00- Wicked.- This is my blowtorch.

0:25:00 > 0:25:02And what does that do? Why do you use that?

0:25:02 > 0:25:05That heats up the gum. So that hardens it off.

0:25:05 > 0:25:08Acrylic enamel, these are the paints.

0:25:08 > 0:25:11And if we hang around, can we be the first to see your latest piece?

0:25:11 > 0:25:14There's various gums around, I'm sure we can find one

0:25:14 > 0:25:17- and I can create a picture.- Ace.

0:25:17 > 0:25:20We might just take a back seat and watch you get on with it.

0:25:20 > 0:25:23Okey-doke, yeah, that sounds great.

0:25:25 > 0:25:28OK, this isn't something that we advise you to do,

0:25:28 > 0:25:30but if you fancy having a go at making tiny art,

0:25:30 > 0:25:33why not draw around a twopence piece on card or paper

0:25:33 > 0:25:35and try painting your own miniature picture?

0:25:35 > 0:25:37Without getting in trouble.

0:25:37 > 0:25:40Oh, and leave the blowtorch alone.

0:25:52 > 0:25:55- I wonder what it could be.- I know, yeah. The other ones are so bright,

0:25:55 > 0:25:59so it's definitely going to involve a lot of colour, isn't it?

0:26:01 > 0:26:03Wait and see.

0:26:06 > 0:26:10- Are you a gum-chewer? - Big time. What about you?

0:26:10 > 0:26:14More of a bubble gum man, myself. Big old bubbles, burst on your face.

0:26:16 > 0:26:19We love gum, but it's good to put it in the bin not on the pavement.

0:26:26 > 0:26:29Right, I've finished the chewing gum picture,

0:26:29 > 0:26:32- so do you want to check it out? - Ooh.- Let's look.

0:26:32 > 0:26:34- See what you think.- Let's see.

0:26:34 > 0:26:37Oh, man, that is so cool!

0:26:37 > 0:26:40That is amazing. Is that us there on the bench?

0:26:40 > 0:26:42Yeah, you're sitting on the bench.

0:26:42 > 0:26:45- That's us. You can also see my pink boots.- Nice, bright colours.

0:26:45 > 0:26:47Who would of thought that's a piece of rubbish?

0:26:47 > 0:26:50A bit of chewing gum and it's been turned into something so beautiful,

0:26:50 > 0:26:53- with us in it. - Thank you so much.

0:26:53 > 0:26:56- It's a real pleasure. Take care. - Thanks, Ben.- It's a pleasure.

0:26:56 > 0:26:59- We'll see you next time on Totally Rubbish.- See you.

0:27:00 > 0:27:03Why don't you have a go at making a daft disguise?

0:27:05 > 0:27:07A driftwood shark hook?

0:27:09 > 0:27:11A CD case photo frame?

0:27:11 > 0:27:13Or a spider pinata?

0:27:16 > 0:27:18And keep collecting your plastic bags...

0:27:18 > 0:27:20..crisp packets...

0:27:21 > 0:27:23..old magazines...

0:27:23 > 0:27:27..and egg boxes, and we'll see you soon on Totally Rubbish.

0:27:45 > 0:27:48Subtitled by Red Bee Media Ltd
