0:00:01 > 0:00:03'I'm Nigel.'
0:00:04 > 0:00:06'I'm Michelle.'
0:00:08 > 0:00:11'We're going to show you how to turn useless rubbish...'
0:00:11 > 0:00:13What are you going to do with this lot?
0:00:13 > 0:00:15'..into amazing, useful stuff...'
0:00:15 > 0:00:16So cool!
0:00:16 > 0:00:18'All here on...'
0:00:21 > 0:00:23Coming up...
0:00:23 > 0:00:27we meet an artist who makes amazing pictures from thrown away packaging.
0:00:27 > 0:00:32We help someone find a storage solution in their recycling...
0:00:32 > 0:00:35and we show you how to make fashion from old crisp packets.
0:00:35 > 0:00:36But first...
0:00:36 > 0:00:37This is...
0:00:37 > 0:00:40- BOTH:- Fake snot.
0:00:40 > 0:00:41- Achoo!- Bless you.
0:00:41 > 0:00:44- Bless you.- Bless you!
0:00:44 > 0:00:47- That's pretty bad, buddy. - Do you reckon I should see a doctor?
0:00:48 > 0:00:50'Second opinion?'
0:00:50 > 0:00:53- That can't be right, can it? - No! Ha-ha-ha!
0:00:53 > 0:00:55You don't want to have a look at this snot?!
0:00:55 > 0:00:59'That's a serious cold you've got there, Michelle!'
0:00:59 > 0:01:01Anyone like my snot? Ha-ha-ha!
0:01:03 > 0:01:04- How did that go?- That worked well.
0:01:04 > 0:01:07- I got some great reactions. How about you?- Snot is wicked.
0:01:07 > 0:01:10- It's where it's at.- I'm going to show how to make it.- Cool!
0:01:10 > 0:01:13'Yep, I'm going to show you how to prank your mates
0:01:13 > 0:01:15'out of stuff you have lying around.'
0:01:15 > 0:01:18This is fake snot, and this is how we make it.
0:01:18 > 0:01:21First up, we need to get an old bowl
0:01:21 > 0:01:24and into that old bowl we're going to put some PVA glue -
0:01:24 > 0:01:25just pour a little bit in.
0:01:25 > 0:01:29'You can find PVA in most stationery shops or supermarkets.'
0:01:29 > 0:01:31It's not looking very snot-like yet,
0:01:31 > 0:01:33so, what do we need?
0:01:33 > 0:01:36How's about some old jelly?
0:01:36 > 0:01:38Maybe you've had a party, you've got some jelly left?
0:01:38 > 0:01:40We're going to put that into the mix.
0:01:40 > 0:01:44It's going to give us a much more snot-like...
0:01:44 > 0:01:47Oh, yeah, get that in there! ..texture.
0:01:47 > 0:01:49Look, check it out, check it out.
0:01:49 > 0:01:52Give that a good stir, mix it all up.
0:01:55 > 0:01:57It's not quite snot coloured, is it?
0:01:57 > 0:01:59So, what we need to do,
0:01:59 > 0:02:03maybe you've got some green paint that's been lying around...
0:02:03 > 0:02:04get that in there, go on...
0:02:06 > 0:02:08..give it another stir.
0:02:09 > 0:02:11That is beautiful!
0:02:12 > 0:02:14Now, just for some authenticity,
0:02:14 > 0:02:18I'm going to mix in some yellow, as well.
0:02:18 > 0:02:22You know, these bogeys have been festering.
0:02:22 > 0:02:24So...
0:02:24 > 0:02:27'The greener it is, the easier it is to see.'
0:02:27 > 0:02:29..you've got good snot, there.
0:02:29 > 0:02:31So, what we need to do is store it,
0:02:31 > 0:02:34so you need to find an old jar that you have knocking around
0:02:34 > 0:02:37and we're going to put our snot in there for storage.
0:02:37 > 0:02:40You never know when you're going to need snot.
0:02:40 > 0:02:42Once we've got our fake snot all stored...
0:02:44 > 0:02:46..we close our jar, save it up.
0:02:47 > 0:02:51Now, when you need it, you dig out an old dishcloth,
0:02:51 > 0:02:52you give it a wash,
0:02:52 > 0:02:56and this is going to make the perfect hanky for our snot prank.
0:02:56 > 0:03:00'Grab some out of your jar or straight out of the bowl.'
0:03:00 > 0:03:01Dollop it in.
0:03:01 > 0:03:03Make sure you've got a good amount.
0:03:05 > 0:03:09So then, you take it to your unsuspecting victim...
0:03:09 > 0:03:10Achoo!
0:03:13 > 0:03:15- 'Eurgh!'- Sorry.
0:03:42 > 0:03:44NOISY BELCH
0:03:50 > 0:03:52Amazingly...
0:03:55 > 0:03:56..and I'm here to meet a guy
0:03:56 > 0:03:59whose family recycle as much packaging as they can,
0:03:59 > 0:04:01but he wants to use some of it
0:04:01 > 0:04:03to create something really cool for his new room.
0:04:05 > 0:04:09Meet Jordan. He's getting his room re-decorated.
0:04:09 > 0:04:14When he's not street dancing, he's watching DVDs or playing his games
0:04:14 > 0:04:16and he's got lots of them.
0:04:16 > 0:04:20He's looking for a storage solution to take the chaos from his crib.
0:04:20 > 0:04:21So, what's going on?
0:04:21 > 0:04:24I'm getting my garage converted into a new bedroom
0:04:24 > 0:04:26because my bedroom upstairs is too small.
0:04:26 > 0:04:28And what kind of things do you want in your new bedroom?
0:04:28 > 0:04:31Well, I would like something to store my games, and my DVDs,
0:04:31 > 0:04:35and my music, because I like dancing so I need somewhere to store that.
0:04:35 > 0:04:38You're looking for something cool and interesting
0:04:38 > 0:04:41- that you can use for storage, would you say?- Yeah.
0:04:41 > 0:04:44And it's clear that your family are big on recycling,
0:04:44 > 0:04:47- we've got a lot of packages here.- Yeah.
0:04:47 > 0:04:50Well, that's cool because I know someone who is an amazing artist
0:04:50 > 0:04:51and he's actually really good
0:04:51 > 0:04:54at creating cool things from old packaging.
0:04:54 > 0:04:56Take a look at this, you'll love it.
0:05:03 > 0:05:05My name is Robi Walters, I'm an artist.
0:05:05 > 0:05:07I make collages using recycling,
0:05:07 > 0:05:09and today I'm going to show you how it works.
0:05:11 > 0:05:14So, the first thing that I do when I've got my pile of packaging
0:05:14 > 0:05:19is...pull it all out and sort it into colours.
0:05:19 > 0:05:22So, I've got some nice golds, and pinks, and reds.
0:05:23 > 0:05:27To collect my packaging, I go to friends and family,
0:05:27 > 0:05:29and I take their packaging,
0:05:29 > 0:05:31and transform it into something beautiful.
0:05:34 > 0:05:37I cut the colours into strips.
0:05:37 > 0:05:40It prepares me for cutting petal shapes,
0:05:40 > 0:05:46and, as you can see, I'm surrounded by petals, I love petal shapes,
0:05:46 > 0:05:48but you don't have to cut petal shapes,
0:05:48 > 0:05:52you can cut into squares, circles - whatever shape takes your fancy.
0:05:54 > 0:05:55Nice red petal.
0:06:05 > 0:06:08It takes a long time to make a big pile of petals
0:06:08 > 0:06:12and I need a lot of petals for doing what I'm doing, so don't be put off.
0:06:13 > 0:06:17It's a time to relax and just have fun.
0:06:17 > 0:06:20I like to listen to music, sometimes I watch a little bit of television.
0:06:23 > 0:06:25I'm now ready to start making my collage,
0:06:25 > 0:06:29but first I need to be prepared and lay out all my materials.
0:06:35 > 0:06:37Now that I've got everything ready,
0:06:37 > 0:06:39I'm going to spray the edge of my board red,
0:06:39 > 0:06:42as it's the primary colour that I'm using in my collage.
0:06:43 > 0:06:47I take my collage pieces and I work from the corner,
0:06:47 > 0:06:49and I work towards the centre of the piece.
0:06:49 > 0:06:52It's always a good idea to have an image in your mind
0:06:52 > 0:06:56of exactly of what you want to make and to work towards that goal.
0:06:59 > 0:07:02It's nice to mix the colours - like, this is predominantly red,
0:07:02 > 0:07:05but sometimes I'll take a colour from a different pile.
0:07:12 > 0:07:15As you can see, this takes quite a long time
0:07:15 > 0:07:18so it's really important that you're sitting comfortably.
0:07:20 > 0:07:22I also use vinyl records, where I smash them
0:07:22 > 0:07:25and do a very similar thing to my card collages,
0:07:25 > 0:07:28where I lay them out and glue them onto plywood.
0:07:28 > 0:07:31I also used bananas creating a boat,
0:07:31 > 0:07:35which is a tribute to my grandparents coming over from Jamaica
0:07:35 > 0:07:37in the 1950s.
0:07:46 > 0:07:48Yay, I've finished my collage!
0:07:48 > 0:07:51And now over to my gallery, where I'm going to display it.
0:07:54 > 0:07:57So, here we are, this is the gallery where I display my work -
0:07:57 > 0:07:59let's go hang the picture.
0:08:01 > 0:08:04This piece is inspired by the Olympic Games,
0:08:04 > 0:08:06by my favourite athlete, Usain Bolt.
0:08:09 > 0:08:11Right, here we go.
0:08:13 > 0:08:17So, this is my collage, I really hope it inspires you to make something.
0:08:25 > 0:08:29Robi used about 8,000 petals made from old card
0:08:29 > 0:08:30to make this amazing collage,
0:08:30 > 0:08:33and it's perfect inspiration for what we can make with Jordan.
0:08:35 > 0:08:38I've had a root through all your packaging and I've found -
0:08:38 > 0:08:40which will be great for a storage box -
0:08:40 > 0:08:41an old shoe box of yours.
0:08:41 > 0:08:43So, obviously, you just need to make sure
0:08:43 > 0:08:45that you can fit your DVDs inside.
0:08:45 > 0:08:48I found a DVD of yours, and it fits perfectly.
0:08:48 > 0:08:50And I know you're big into your street dancing,
0:08:50 > 0:08:53so how about we create a street dancing storage box?
0:08:53 > 0:08:55- Yeah.- Does that sound good?- Yeah.
0:08:55 > 0:08:58You need a large piece of old cardboard,
0:08:58 > 0:09:00and make sure it's nice and thick,
0:09:00 > 0:09:03and then we need to start drawing all the features. So, the arms...
0:09:06 > 0:09:08..the jazzy cap...
0:09:10 > 0:09:12..the face...
0:09:15 > 0:09:16..the legs...
0:09:20 > 0:09:22..and now all we need to do is start cutting them out.
0:09:22 > 0:09:24So, you've got a pair of scissors, there.
0:09:24 > 0:09:26What's, like, your favourite move?
0:09:26 > 0:09:29- Body wave.- So, how do you do the body wave?
0:09:29 > 0:09:32It's like a wave of motion through your arms.
0:09:32 > 0:09:34Go on, show me, I've got to see this.
0:09:35 > 0:09:37What?! That's AMAZING! Do that again!
0:09:39 > 0:09:44Oh, my gosh, that's... That's so cool!
0:09:44 > 0:09:46Right, so we've got all our shapes cut out,
0:09:46 > 0:09:47so I'm going to put these to one side now,
0:09:47 > 0:09:50as next we need to think about the design.
0:09:50 > 0:09:53And, as Robi Walters says, a good tip is to be prepared.
0:09:53 > 0:09:55You need to lay out all your packaging
0:09:55 > 0:09:57so you know what type of things you are going to use
0:09:57 > 0:09:59to bring your design together.
0:09:59 > 0:10:01Another good tip is, you need to think of the end result.
0:10:01 > 0:10:04So, you've got to have a good picture in your mind of what you
0:10:04 > 0:10:06want your end design to look like.
0:10:06 > 0:10:10So it seems like there's quite a few blue boxes here.
0:10:10 > 0:10:13- Maybe we could use that as our base colour?- Yeah.
0:10:13 > 0:10:15Another good tip from Robi is that you can make collages
0:10:15 > 0:10:19out of any shapes and any materials, you can just have fun with it.
0:10:19 > 0:10:20Fun is the word.
0:10:20 > 0:10:23What do you think of using a star?
0:10:23 > 0:10:25- Yeah, cool.- Pretty cool?- Yeah.
0:10:25 > 0:10:27We can also, obviously, use other shapes as well.
0:10:27 > 0:10:28- What about a rectangle?- Yeah.
0:10:28 > 0:10:31We can just do a long, thin rectangle and do loads of strips.
0:10:31 > 0:10:32Yeah.
0:10:32 > 0:10:35The main thing about this stage is just building up a good pile
0:10:35 > 0:10:39of materials to use. So, it's all about, as Robi Walters said,
0:10:39 > 0:10:42being prepared, getting your shapes all ready,
0:10:42 > 0:10:45and once you have got a big pile together then it's really simple
0:10:45 > 0:10:49to start laying them on your box and really building up your design.
0:10:49 > 0:10:50Right, so we've cut out all our shapes.
0:10:50 > 0:10:52- That took a while didn't it?- Yeah!
0:10:52 > 0:10:56And now we need to start building up the design for our storage box.
0:10:56 > 0:10:59So, if I bring the lid back in, you can start working on this.
0:10:59 > 0:11:04And one thing Robi Walters does in his artwork is colour graduation.
0:11:04 > 0:11:07So it's kind of going from a darker shade to a lighter shade,
0:11:07 > 0:11:09so you could try doing that on this box.
0:11:09 > 0:11:13I will work on the legs of our street dancer,
0:11:13 > 0:11:16and I'll use these yellow strips that we cut out.
0:11:16 > 0:11:19- What do you think about that? - Yeah it looks good, yeah.
0:11:19 > 0:11:20It looks cool, that, doesn't it.
0:11:20 > 0:11:23Why don't we use some of those crisp packets to build up the shoe?
0:11:23 > 0:11:25OK, sounds good.
0:11:25 > 0:11:28That's another top tip from Robi Walters, as well.
0:11:28 > 0:11:30It's all about using different materials.
0:11:30 > 0:11:31This is one trendy guy.
0:11:31 > 0:11:34- Just like you.- Thanks.
0:11:34 > 0:11:37To decorate the hat, we again used crisp packets.
0:11:37 > 0:11:40This time, we cut them into leaf shapes.
0:11:40 > 0:11:41Oh, I can smell those crisps!
0:11:43 > 0:11:45Right, so next we're going to work on the arms.
0:11:45 > 0:11:49So, these are our templates that we cut out before and our square.
0:11:49 > 0:11:52And what we're going to do with the square, first of all,
0:11:52 > 0:11:54is create tabs on either side.
0:11:54 > 0:11:57So you're going to bend up these flaps on your square.
0:11:57 > 0:11:59It is quite tough cardboard, isn't it?
0:11:59 > 0:12:01As we realised when we were using those scissors.
0:12:01 > 0:12:03So just put a bit of strength into it.
0:12:03 > 0:12:05Then you're going to grab your front arm
0:12:05 > 0:12:08and stick it down with some sticky tape with the tab just along here.
0:12:13 > 0:12:15And then do the same with the other side.
0:12:20 > 0:12:23And now we just need to join the top bits here,
0:12:23 > 0:12:26because this is what our box is going to rest on.
0:12:26 > 0:12:30So all you do for that is bend over the top bits like this
0:12:30 > 0:12:32and sticky tape them together.
0:12:34 > 0:12:38Right, and then you've got your support mechanism for your box.
0:12:38 > 0:12:40I'll just show you how that works.
0:12:40 > 0:12:44The box just rests on it like that,
0:12:44 > 0:12:46and the arm's kind of supporting it.
0:12:46 > 0:12:50Then we can just decorate the front arm, here,
0:12:50 > 0:12:52with all of the stars we cut up before.
0:12:53 > 0:12:55Next we'll attach the legs to the box
0:12:55 > 0:12:58by folding the top of each leg and sticking them on
0:12:58 > 0:13:00using double-sided tape or glue.
0:13:02 > 0:13:03That's looking pretty cool.
0:13:03 > 0:13:06Then let's move on to the head.
0:13:06 > 0:13:08So, I've stuck the hat on his head
0:13:08 > 0:13:11and now I've stuck the head on the box.
0:13:11 > 0:13:14So this support arm is going to go underneath.
0:13:14 > 0:13:18I've just put some double-sided sticky tape on the top bit of it.
0:13:18 > 0:13:21Then our final arm that goes on the top,
0:13:21 > 0:13:24that's just going to stick about a third of the way along.
0:13:24 > 0:13:26Just like that.
0:13:26 > 0:13:29And there we have our street dancing storage box.
0:13:29 > 0:13:32Let's turn it around and take a good look.
0:13:32 > 0:13:35Whoa, that is amazing! That looks really, really good.
0:13:35 > 0:13:36- It's wicked, isn't it?- Yeah.
0:13:36 > 0:13:39- Right, shall we open him up and put some DVDs in?- Yeah.
0:13:39 > 0:13:40Cool, man.
0:13:43 > 0:13:45- That looks so cool. - It does, doesn't it?
0:13:45 > 0:13:46Right, Jordan,
0:13:46 > 0:13:50now I've shown you how to create a street dance storage box,
0:13:50 > 0:13:53I think it's time for you to show me a few of your street dance moves.
0:13:53 > 0:13:56- OK, let's do that. - Let's do it.- Yeah.
0:13:56 > 0:13:58- So you start with the head.- Right.
0:13:58 > 0:14:01- And then you start with the body. - OK.
0:14:06 > 0:14:08I ain't got that.
0:14:10 > 0:14:13To make a street dancer storage box, here's what you have to do.
0:14:14 > 0:14:17Stage one - get a shoe box big enough to fit
0:14:17 > 0:14:19whatever you want to store in it.
0:14:21 > 0:14:23Stage two - on a sheet of old cardboard,
0:14:23 > 0:14:25draw and cut out the head, hat and limbs.
0:14:30 > 0:14:32Stage three - assemble the arms,
0:14:32 > 0:14:34which will become the stand for the unit.
0:14:38 > 0:14:40Stage four - cut out your various collage shapes.
0:14:43 > 0:14:46Stage five - arrange and stick your collage shapes
0:14:46 > 0:14:48to the individual pieces and the box lid.
0:14:51 > 0:14:54Stage six - stick the limbs and the head on to the body.
0:15:03 > 0:15:06Still to come, we make a big beast out of cardboard boxes.
0:15:06 > 0:15:09And we show you how to make a skittles game
0:15:09 > 0:15:11from stuff you'd throw away.
0:15:11 > 0:15:13But first, Totally Famous.
0:15:15 > 0:15:17Introducing Salvador Dali.
0:15:17 > 0:15:22Totally Famous for doing the weirdest of weird works of art.
0:15:22 > 0:15:25Spanish artist Salvador Dali was a bit of a show off.
0:15:25 > 0:15:28I mean, why else would you grow a moustache like that?
0:15:28 > 0:15:31He wanted to get attention with his actions, as well as his art.
0:15:32 > 0:15:36Dali was a surrealist and looked at the world in a very different way.
0:15:36 > 0:15:40He had an amazing ability to recycle his dreams into art.
0:15:42 > 0:15:45To help him do this, he put a metal plate on the floor
0:15:45 > 0:15:48next to his chair. Then he'd hold a spoon in his hand
0:15:48 > 0:15:51and nod off to sleep before waking up with a clang,
0:15:51 > 0:15:55and rushing straight off to paint the dreams he just woken up from.
0:15:57 > 0:16:01But Dali wasn't just a painter. He made art in other ways, too.
0:16:01 > 0:16:03How would you like one of those?
0:16:03 > 0:16:06I wonder if you can get it in a smartphone version.
0:16:08 > 0:16:11But one creature terrified Dali - you'll never guess what it was.
0:16:12 > 0:16:13Grasshoppers.
0:16:13 > 0:16:15I'm not joking.
0:16:17 > 0:16:20Ready to take your bow? I knew you'd like that.
0:16:20 > 0:16:23The Totally Famous, tache-tastic Salvador Dali.
0:16:32 > 0:16:35Today we're going to make a plastic bottle skittle game...
0:16:37 > 0:16:40..using six old plastic water or soft drink bottles,
0:16:40 > 0:16:41an old ball,
0:16:41 > 0:16:43some white paint,
0:16:43 > 0:16:46some PVA glue, and a little bit of water.
0:16:46 > 0:16:48You're going to get some white paint.
0:16:48 > 0:16:51Pour it into our bottle.
0:16:51 > 0:16:55You need a little bit, not a lot.
0:16:55 > 0:16:56SQUELCH
0:16:56 > 0:16:59THEY LAUGH
0:16:59 > 0:17:02Then what you're going to do is put in a little bit of PVA glue.
0:17:02 > 0:17:04Only a little bit.
0:17:04 > 0:17:06And a small bit of water.
0:17:06 > 0:17:08(Don't spill.)
0:17:09 > 0:17:13All right. Then you need to put the lid on...
0:17:13 > 0:17:16then you shake it. Make sure the lid's on.
0:17:19 > 0:17:21The glue will help the paint stick.
0:17:23 > 0:17:26Once you've shaken all the mixture in your bottle,
0:17:26 > 0:17:30put all the leftovers into an old container.
0:17:33 > 0:17:36We can use this to make our other skittles.
0:17:36 > 0:17:40Once you've poured all the leftovers into an old container,
0:17:40 > 0:17:46get some red tape and put it around your bottle.
0:17:46 > 0:17:48This is good decoration.
0:17:48 > 0:17:52Once you've done one, take another piece and put it above.
0:17:52 > 0:17:54We've made two skittles.
0:17:54 > 0:17:56Now we've got another four to go for our game.
0:17:56 > 0:17:58Let's get making.
0:17:59 > 0:18:01Keep going until you've got six skittles.
0:18:03 > 0:18:05And then you can play with them.
0:18:12 > 0:18:13Yeah, high five!
0:18:16 > 0:18:18The best thing about making skittles
0:18:18 > 0:18:20is you can play with them for ages.
0:18:46 > 0:18:49What can you make from a bin bag full of rubbish?
0:18:49 > 0:18:51Just have a look at this.
0:18:51 > 0:18:52There you go.
0:18:52 > 0:18:54- What? I don't have a clue what you're going to make.- No idea?
0:18:54 > 0:18:56No idea whatsoever.
0:18:56 > 0:18:58You'll need some scissors,
0:18:58 > 0:19:00an old bit of cardboard
0:19:00 > 0:19:02and lots of crisp packets.
0:19:03 > 0:19:06- Do you want to know what we're going to make?- I'd love to, yeah.
0:19:06 > 0:19:10- Have a look at this. - What? How did that even happen?
0:19:10 > 0:19:13- Some funky jewellery there. - I tell you what, that suits you.
0:19:13 > 0:19:15- Would you like one? - I'd love one, yeah.
0:19:15 > 0:19:17- Well, I think we should make you one. - OK, go on then.
0:19:17 > 0:19:20The first thing we need to do is take one of our crisp packets...
0:19:20 > 0:19:22- Yeah.- ..and we need to open it up.
0:19:22 > 0:19:25- Now, we do this by cutting down the back here...- Yeah.
0:19:26 > 0:19:31- ..and then along the bottom, as well. See that?- Yeah. Simple.
0:19:31 > 0:19:34Opened out one side along there.
0:19:35 > 0:19:37We've opened out the other side.
0:19:37 > 0:19:40What you want to do is do that to all of your crisp packets, OK?
0:19:40 > 0:19:42So, you've got lots and lots of these.
0:19:42 > 0:19:44They're very clean, these packets, aren't they?
0:19:44 > 0:19:46What do you take me for? I've washed these all up.
0:19:46 > 0:19:48You're always thinking.
0:19:48 > 0:19:52The next thing you need to do is to get some old card.
0:19:52 > 0:19:54Now, I've used an old cereal packet here.
0:19:54 > 0:19:57So we need to draw a rectangle on our old piece of card
0:19:57 > 0:20:00and it needs to measure 10cm by 20cm.
0:20:00 > 0:20:01What's that for, then?
0:20:01 > 0:20:03This is going to be our template.
0:20:04 > 0:20:06So, 20cm along here.
0:20:09 > 0:20:11Right, so now you've drawn that, we need to cut it out.
0:20:11 > 0:20:13- OK, I can do that.- Yeah?- Yeah.
0:20:14 > 0:20:17I've got one that we've already cut out.
0:20:17 > 0:20:18Just speeding ahead.
0:20:18 > 0:20:21Put the template on to the crisp packet,
0:20:21 > 0:20:23and then draw around it quickly.
0:20:25 > 0:20:27There you go. What do we need to do next, Michelle?
0:20:27 > 0:20:30We need to cut it out, and that's where I come in.
0:20:30 > 0:20:32Once you've cut out one of your templates,
0:20:32 > 0:20:34- it looks a bit like this, yeah?- Yeah.
0:20:34 > 0:20:37Next, we've got some folding to do, so pay attention.
0:20:38 > 0:20:40The first fold you need to make,
0:20:40 > 0:20:42you need to fold it in half along the length.
0:20:42 > 0:20:45Get a nice, good crease in there.
0:20:45 > 0:20:47Open that back out.
0:20:47 > 0:20:51Then, you're going to fold your edges into the crease you have just made.
0:20:51 > 0:20:52- I get you.- OK.- Yeah.
0:20:52 > 0:20:56So, you're folding into the crease that you just made on that side,
0:20:56 > 0:20:59and again on this side.
0:20:59 > 0:21:01It looks easier than folding paper, as well,
0:21:01 > 0:21:03cos it's quite a flimsy material, isn't it?
0:21:03 > 0:21:07Yeah, getting the crease in is quite easy compared to doing it on paper.
0:21:07 > 0:21:11Then, you again fold on your original crease.
0:21:11 > 0:21:14- Does that make sense? - It makes sense. A lot of folds.
0:21:14 > 0:21:16HE LAUGHS
0:21:16 > 0:21:17"It makes sense. A lot of folds!"
0:21:17 > 0:21:19Now we're going to use the same technique,
0:21:19 > 0:21:22but we're going to turn it on its end.
0:21:22 > 0:21:26So, we fold in half, like we did for the first one.
0:21:26 > 0:21:28- OK, get your crease.- Yeah.
0:21:28 > 0:21:31Open it back out again,
0:21:31 > 0:21:35and then you're folding into that middle crease that you've just made.
0:21:35 > 0:21:38So it's the same as you did before, but just a different way around.
0:21:38 > 0:21:40Exactly the same principle.
0:21:40 > 0:21:42Then, like we did the first time round,
0:21:42 > 0:21:44fold your original crease in half.
0:21:44 > 0:21:50- Oh, right.- Now, this is a single component of our jewellery.- Right.
0:21:50 > 0:21:51But we need lots of these,
0:21:51 > 0:21:54so you need to save up lots and lots of crisp packets
0:21:54 > 0:21:56until you've got loads, like this,
0:21:56 > 0:21:58and then you can begin making your jewellery.
0:21:58 > 0:22:01- What you need to do is take one of the components...- Got it.
0:22:01 > 0:22:05..and if you open it up into two flaps, like this,
0:22:05 > 0:22:09you can see that in each of the flaps there's a little space.
0:22:09 > 0:22:10Yeah, a little hole.
0:22:10 > 0:22:15What you need to do is take another component and put it into those.
0:22:15 > 0:22:18So you take one flap from the component and put it in one side,
0:22:18 > 0:22:21and the other flap, you put it in the other side.
0:22:26 > 0:22:29- That's simple, that. - Yeah, you got it?- Yeah I got it.
0:22:29 > 0:22:32Here it is one more time, just in case.
0:22:42 > 0:22:46Once that's in, you've got your first link of your bracelet.
0:22:46 > 0:22:49Then keep going. Pick up another one.
0:22:49 > 0:22:51Look for the two slits.
0:22:51 > 0:22:54In goes another component again.
0:22:54 > 0:22:57So, once you've put quite of the few links in,
0:22:57 > 0:23:00- you should have something that looks a bit like this.- Cool.
0:23:00 > 0:23:05- OK? Now all we need to do is link one end to the other.- Yeah.
0:23:05 > 0:23:09So, you take one of your basic link components,
0:23:09 > 0:23:12open it out so it's long, like that, yeah?
0:23:12 > 0:23:15Slide it into the last link that you made.
0:23:15 > 0:23:20When you fold it round here, fold it round the outside...
0:23:20 > 0:23:23- It's so neat, as well, isn't it? - ..and back in.
0:23:25 > 0:23:28- And there you have it.- You've made me my very own bracelet!
0:23:28 > 0:23:29- There you go.- Thanks very much.
0:23:29 > 0:23:31If you don't want to make a bracelet,
0:23:31 > 0:23:33there are other things you can use the little links to make.
0:23:33 > 0:23:36If you look over there, I've made a place mat.
0:23:36 > 0:23:39- Oh, I like this. - It's cool, isn't it?- That's wicked.
0:23:39 > 0:23:41The colours are brilliant, as well,
0:23:41 > 0:23:43cos you've got all the different crisp packets.
0:23:43 > 0:23:46All made out of crisp packets. I used a smaller template for that one.
0:23:46 > 0:23:48That one's slightly smaller,
0:23:48 > 0:23:50the links are a little bit thinner, as well.
0:23:50 > 0:23:52- What's this, then? - Got another present for you.
0:23:54 > 0:23:55Check this out.
0:23:57 > 0:23:59Your own little fashion belt there.
0:23:59 > 0:24:02You are just too kind. This guy is good.
0:24:02 > 0:24:04- I'm loving this. - There you go. You see?
0:24:04 > 0:24:07Right, where we heading? I'm up for a party, me.
0:24:07 > 0:24:10Well, we're off to the party! Enjoy your funky jewellery.
0:24:18 > 0:24:20I'd love one of those bracelets, Min.
0:24:20 > 0:24:23You'd look lovely in one. But where would you put it?
0:24:23 > 0:24:24No wrists.
0:24:24 > 0:24:26Oh, good point.
0:24:26 > 0:24:29Still, it's a good reason to stop binning crisp packets, Vin.
0:24:29 > 0:24:32Did you know, in the UK, we throw away enough crisp packets
0:24:32 > 0:24:38and other plastic packaging to fill 250 jumbo jets every week?
0:24:38 > 0:24:41Here, Min, do you know what type of crisps can fly?
0:24:41 > 0:24:43What?
0:24:43 > 0:24:44PLANE crisps.
0:24:44 > 0:24:46THEY LAUGH
0:24:56 > 0:24:58Museums - full of old stuff.
0:25:02 > 0:25:03Like fossils...
0:25:05 > 0:25:07..ancient relics...
0:25:11 > 0:25:13..and a walrus?
0:25:18 > 0:25:20We're going to use something old
0:25:20 > 0:25:22to make something new for this museum.
0:25:22 > 0:25:24And we're using this...
0:25:24 > 0:25:27A load of old cardboard.
0:25:31 > 0:25:36I'm being very careful with this cutting here.
0:26:06 > 0:26:08Heads up.
0:26:10 > 0:26:12Anyone for ribs?
0:26:13 > 0:26:16- How's it going? - Yeah it's going good.
0:26:16 > 0:26:17Cool, right. More cardboard.
0:26:21 > 0:26:23It's like a big jigsaw puzzle.
0:26:23 > 0:26:25Any ideas?
0:26:25 > 0:26:26You'll see.
0:26:28 > 0:26:30Now THAT'S a claw.
0:26:30 > 0:26:32- It's looking good. - Let's get cracking.
0:26:39 > 0:26:41Nearly there.
0:26:46 > 0:26:48There you go.
0:26:48 > 0:26:49A Totally Rubbish-osaurus.
0:27:07 > 0:27:10We made our Totally Rubbish-osaurus out of 26 boxes,
0:27:10 > 0:27:13two cutting knives, and two felt pens.
0:27:13 > 0:27:15Oh, and a step ladder.
0:27:15 > 0:27:17FAINT GROWLING
0:27:18 > 0:27:21There you go - a perfect new addition to the museum.
0:27:21 > 0:27:23And all from a load of old cardboard.
0:27:23 > 0:27:24BOTH: See you.
0:27:25 > 0:27:28Why don't you have a go at making some fake snot...
0:27:28 > 0:27:31..or a street dancer storage box...
0:27:32 > 0:27:34..creating your own plastic bottle skittles game...
0:27:35 > 0:27:38..or designing your own crisp packet fashion?
0:27:40 > 0:27:43And start collecting your out of date phone books...
0:27:43 > 0:27:45..old towels and odd socks...
0:27:46 > 0:27:50..and more empty crisp packets for the next time on Totally Rubbish.
