0:00:32 > 0:00:35Hello, Treasure Champs.

0:00:35 > 0:00:38I've just been watching Barry play for his team.

0:00:38 > 0:00:40We lost.

0:00:40 > 0:00:42It doesn't matter, Barry.

0:00:42 > 0:00:46It was my fault, I let all the goals in.

0:00:46 > 0:00:50I don't understand why you're so sad, just forget about it.

0:00:50 > 0:00:52I can't.

0:00:52 > 0:00:55Why not? It's just a game.

0:00:55 > 0:00:56BARRY SIGHS

0:00:56 > 0:00:59You're not showing a lot of empathy, Kari.

0:00:59 > 0:01:01Empathy?

0:01:01 > 0:01:03Yes, it's today's treasure.

0:01:03 > 0:01:07Empathy means putting yourself in someone else's shoes.

0:01:09 > 0:01:11Er, no, not that.

0:01:11 > 0:01:15I don't mean you actually WEAR someone else's shoes,

0:01:15 > 0:01:20it means you try to feel what it's like being another person.

0:01:20 > 0:01:22Oh! That makes sense!

0:01:30 > 0:01:33# What, what, what, what What do you think?

0:01:33 > 0:01:35# What, what, what, what What do you say?

0:01:35 > 0:01:38- # What does it mean? - What do you do

0:01:38 > 0:01:39# About this treasure?

0:01:39 > 0:01:41# It's over to you! #

0:01:44 > 0:01:46I think empathy means that,

0:01:46 > 0:01:52like, when someone is worried or sad, then you know how they feel.

0:01:52 > 0:01:54I felt empathy when my friend's cat died

0:01:54 > 0:01:57and I went to his house and cheered him up.

0:01:57 > 0:02:01When I see someone else happy, that makes me feel happy.

0:02:01 > 0:02:05Empathy is imagining how somebody else feels.

0:02:05 > 0:02:10I wouldn't want to hurt anyone's feelings, so I'm nice to people.

0:02:10 > 0:02:13When one of my friends hurt themselves,

0:02:13 > 0:02:16then I felt sad because they felt sad.

0:02:16 > 0:02:19If you consider someone else's feelings,

0:02:19 > 0:02:22that means you understand how other people feel.

0:02:24 > 0:02:27Don't come near me, I'm feeling sad.

0:02:27 > 0:02:30Hey-hey!

0:02:30 > 0:02:31KARI LAUGHS

0:02:31 > 0:02:36Oh, Kari, you just don't understand how I'm feeling.

0:02:36 > 0:02:41But I really want to play with you and you're being so grumpy!

0:02:41 > 0:02:42It's not very fair on me!

0:02:42 > 0:02:46I was the goalkeeper and I let in all the goals.

0:02:46 > 0:02:49Are you still upset about that?!

0:02:49 > 0:02:52I wish there was a way of showing you what happened.

0:02:52 > 0:02:55Ooh!

0:02:55 > 0:02:57A TV remote?

0:02:58 > 0:03:00How is watching TV going to help?

0:03:00 > 0:03:05It's a special remote control, it will help you understand how I feel.

0:03:05 > 0:03:07I knew it would come in handy.

0:03:14 > 0:03:16Oof!

0:03:17 > 0:03:18Ooh!

0:03:18 > 0:03:19Ohh...

0:03:21 > 0:03:24- Oh! Oh, no! - KARI LAUGHS

0:03:24 > 0:03:27Oh, Barry! You are funny,

0:03:27 > 0:03:29diving around all over the place!

0:03:31 > 0:03:32Oof!

0:03:35 > 0:03:37Oh, no.

0:03:37 > 0:03:38Poor Barry.

0:03:40 > 0:03:44I'm sorry you lost the game. I think I know why you feel sad now.

0:03:44 > 0:03:46Thanks, Kari.

0:03:46 > 0:03:51I tell you what, shall I just stay with you until you feel better?

0:03:51 > 0:03:52That would be nice!

0:03:52 > 0:03:56I feel a bit better just knowing that you understand.

0:03:56 > 0:03:59Oh, I know what will really cheer you up!

0:03:59 > 0:04:02- Another funny costume?- No!

0:04:02 > 0:04:07A story about a Treasure Champ who was brilliant at showing empathy.

0:04:10 > 0:04:12Hello, Treasure Champs.

0:04:12 > 0:04:16I'm Gemma and we are here to tell you the story of the Good Samaritan.

0:04:16 > 0:04:19Go on, you two, run ahead.

0:04:19 > 0:04:22One day, a Jewish man was going on a journey.

0:04:29 > 0:04:33He set off on a path. He was on his way to another town.

0:04:33 > 0:04:34But then...

0:04:37 > 0:04:40It was going to be a long, hard journey.

0:04:41 > 0:04:45It was a dangerous path, known to have robbers and bandits.

0:04:47 > 0:04:50Uh-oh, the robbers spotted the traveller

0:04:50 > 0:04:52and decided to steal his things.

0:04:56 > 0:04:57Argh!

0:04:57 > 0:04:59GEMMA GIGGLES

0:04:59 > 0:05:01Ha-ha-ha-ha!

0:05:04 > 0:05:07THEY BOTH LAUGH

0:05:10 > 0:05:15Ouch! The man was hurt and couldn't walk any further.

0:05:15 > 0:05:20He was left at the side of the path, all alone.

0:05:20 > 0:05:22But then he saw someone coming.

0:05:22 > 0:05:25It was a religious man from the temple.

0:05:25 > 0:05:26The traveller thought,

0:05:26 > 0:05:31"This man must be good and kind and is sure to stop and help me."

0:05:31 > 0:05:32Help!

0:05:34 > 0:05:37But the religious man didn't.

0:05:37 > 0:05:40In fact, he crossed over to the other side of the path

0:05:40 > 0:05:42and carried on walking by.

0:05:42 > 0:05:46But then along came another man, a man who was rich and important,

0:05:46 > 0:05:50so once again the traveller cried out for help.

0:05:50 > 0:05:51Help me, please!

0:05:53 > 0:05:57But he didn't stop to help, either. He did nothing -

0:05:57 > 0:06:00he just carried on walking by on the other side of the path.

0:06:00 > 0:06:04The traveller was beginning to give up hope.

0:06:04 > 0:06:06Why was no-one stopping to help him?

0:06:06 > 0:06:08But just then...

0:06:10 > 0:06:12..another man came along.

0:06:12 > 0:06:17"Uh-oh," thought the traveller, "This man won't help me,

0:06:17 > 0:06:19"I'm Jewish and he's a Samaritan.

0:06:19 > 0:06:22"Jews and Samaritans don't like each other."

0:06:22 > 0:06:27But, to his surprise, the Samaritan did stop to help.

0:06:27 > 0:06:32He could see that the traveller was hurt and decided to help him.

0:06:32 > 0:06:35The Samaritan had empathy for the traveller.

0:06:35 > 0:06:37He thought how horrible it must have been

0:06:37 > 0:06:40to be attacked and left on the path.

0:06:40 > 0:06:44The Samaritan washed and bandaged the injured traveller

0:06:44 > 0:06:47and then they both set off, looking for shelter.

0:06:47 > 0:06:49Eventually, they found an inn

0:06:49 > 0:06:53where the Samaritan paid for the traveller to be looked after.

0:06:53 > 0:06:57The Samaritan even said that he would come back another day

0:06:57 > 0:07:01and check that the traveller was OK.

0:07:01 > 0:07:03Isn't that amazing?

0:07:03 > 0:07:06That one man's act of empathy has been told so many times

0:07:06 > 0:07:10that now, if somebody does something kind for a stranger,

0:07:10 > 0:07:12they are often called a Good Samaritan.

0:07:12 > 0:07:16That's a story that Jesus told and it's found in the Bible.

0:07:16 > 0:07:19Thank you for helping me tell today's treasure story.

0:07:19 > 0:07:22- We'll see you again soon. Bye.- Bye!- Bye!
