0:00:18 > 0:00:21# So every day let's do our best

0:00:21 > 0:00:25# We're Treasure Champs We're on a quest

0:00:25 > 0:00:27# We're Treasure Champs

0:00:28 > 0:00:30# Treasure Champs! #

0:00:32 > 0:00:36Hi, Treasure Champs! Get your ears ready for action

0:00:36 > 0:00:39because today's treasure is democracy.

0:00:39 > 0:00:42It's when everyone takes turns to say what they think

0:00:42 > 0:00:44and have their voice heard.

0:00:44 > 0:00:46NOISY FEEDBACK

0:00:47 > 0:00:52Hey, Barry. Check out my new voice-changing machine.

0:00:52 > 0:00:57- SCARY VOICE:- Isn't it cool?- Whoa!

0:00:57 > 0:01:02- HIGH-PITCHED VOICE:- It's like I'm a completely different person.

0:01:02 > 0:01:03Ha-ha!

0:01:03 > 0:01:07- DEEP VOICE:- This one's my favourite. - Whoa!

0:01:08 > 0:01:13Hey! You said democracy is about having your voice heard.

0:01:21 > 0:01:24# What, what, what do you think?

0:01:24 > 0:01:26# What, what, what do you say?

0:01:26 > 0:01:28- # What does it mean? - # What do you do?

0:01:28 > 0:01:30- BOTH:- # About this treasure?

0:01:30 > 0:01:32# It's over to you! #

0:01:34 > 0:01:39Democracy is where everyone gets to say who's in charge.

0:01:39 > 0:01:43It's important for everyone to vote so everyone has a say.

0:01:43 > 0:01:47Democracy is when everyone helps to make a decision.

0:01:47 > 0:01:53In my class we had a vote, and the film that had

0:01:53 > 0:01:57the most votes was the film that we all watched.

0:01:57 > 0:02:02An election is when grown-ups vote to find out who is in charge.

0:02:02 > 0:02:03Democracy is important

0:02:03 > 0:02:08cos it makes you feel like you're all working together.

0:02:09 > 0:02:14Come on, Kari, if we're going to play on our scooters,

0:02:14 > 0:02:16you need a scooter.

0:02:16 > 0:02:18KARI PANTS

0:02:18 > 0:02:24But I'm not trying to scoot. I want to play tag instead.

0:02:24 > 0:02:25Woohoo! Beep, beep!

0:02:25 > 0:02:27And it looks like Thingy

0:02:27 > 0:02:29wants to play with the ball.

0:02:29 > 0:02:35We'll want to play different things. This could be tricky. Hmm.

0:02:35 > 0:02:40- How we should we decide what to do? - Uh... Oh! I know.

0:02:43 > 0:02:45We can each say what we want to

0:02:45 > 0:02:48do, and the loudest voice wins.

0:02:48 > 0:02:52This machine will measure how loud our voices are. Me first.

0:02:52 > 0:02:54BARRY GASPS

0:02:54 > 0:02:56Scooters!

0:02:56 > 0:02:57Me next!

0:02:57 > 0:02:59Tag!

0:03:01 > 0:03:03Me-mee!

0:03:07 > 0:03:08Clunk!

0:03:08 > 0:03:09Oh.

0:03:09 > 0:03:13- It looks like Thingy was the loudest and won.- Whoohoo!

0:03:13 > 0:03:16SAD MUSIC

0:03:16 > 0:03:21Hmm. Two of us have ended up doing something we don't want to do.

0:03:21 > 0:03:25Maybe loudest voice wins wasn't the fairest way to decide

0:03:25 > 0:03:26what to do.

0:03:26 > 0:03:31- No, neither of us wanted to play with the ball.- I've got the answer!

0:03:31 > 0:03:36- Democracy!- How do we play that? - It's today's treasure, remember?

0:03:36 > 0:03:40- It'll help us do the thing most of us want to do.- OK.

0:03:40 > 0:03:42But first let's learn more

0:03:42 > 0:03:44by watching a story

0:03:44 > 0:03:46that has a lot to say

0:03:46 > 0:03:47about democracy.

0:03:53 > 0:03:58Hello. I'm Amy. Thank you. This is Cole.

0:03:58 > 0:04:02And we're going to tell you the surprising story

0:04:02 > 0:04:05of the farmer's cart.

0:04:05 > 0:04:07All done. Brilliant, high five.

0:04:09 > 0:04:13Once, There was a farmer.

0:04:13 > 0:04:17And he used the cart to carry their milk every day.

0:04:17 > 0:04:19Save some for later, Cole.

0:04:21 > 0:04:23All aboard.

0:04:26 > 0:04:28Shall we go?

0:04:28 > 0:04:30- Honk! Honk!- Very good.

0:04:36 > 0:04:38But today, as the farmer was

0:04:38 > 0:04:43travelling along in his cart, something amazing happened.

0:04:43 > 0:04:46One of the wheels started to talk.

0:04:46 > 0:04:50"Look at me, turning around and driving this cart.

0:04:50 > 0:04:54"I am the bestest, fastest, spin-iest wheel ever.

0:04:54 > 0:04:57"Without me, this cart would just be a box.

0:04:57 > 0:05:01"I'm in charge and I want to go faster. Toot, toot!"

0:05:02 > 0:05:05Then something just as amazing happened.

0:05:05 > 0:05:09The bolt that was holding the wheel together talked back.

0:05:09 > 0:05:11"Excuse me, wheel,

0:05:11 > 0:05:15"the other parts of the cart are just as important as you."

0:05:15 > 0:05:18But the bolt hadn't finished talking yet.

0:05:18 > 0:05:21"Lots of us other parts of the cart are feeling very tired

0:05:21 > 0:05:22"and want to rest."

0:05:22 > 0:05:24Oh!

0:05:24 > 0:05:29"I'm tired of being pulled," said the handle.

0:05:29 > 0:05:32"And I'm tired of being leaned on," said the wood.

0:05:32 > 0:05:34Even the other wheels were tired.

0:05:34 > 0:05:40"We're so tired of turning, turning, turning! Yawn!"

0:05:40 > 0:05:45"Ahem! See, I may be only little, but everyone is important.

0:05:45 > 0:05:51"I say we should have a vote. Who wants to go and who wants to stop?"

0:05:51 > 0:05:52"I want to stop."

0:05:52 > 0:05:54"I want to stop."

0:05:54 > 0:05:56"We want to stop."

0:05:56 > 0:06:01But the wheel ignored the bolt and the other parts of the cart

0:06:01 > 0:06:03and kept on going even faster.

0:06:05 > 0:06:08"I don't have to listen to a tiny bolt

0:06:08 > 0:06:10"or any other parts of the cart.

0:06:10 > 0:06:13"I'm the wheel, what I say is much more important.

0:06:13 > 0:06:17"Now, I'm very busy driving the farmer and his milk.

0:06:17 > 0:06:19"Faster, faster!"

0:06:19 > 0:06:22Well, the bolt did not like that one bit.

0:06:22 > 0:06:26"How dare that wheel, there's only one of him and lots of us.

0:06:26 > 0:06:29"Well, we may be smaller than the wheel,

0:06:29 > 0:06:32"but what we say still matters."

0:06:34 > 0:06:40So the bolt decided to teach the wheel a lesson.

0:06:40 > 0:06:42The bolt pushed...

0:06:43 > 0:06:49..until eventually she popped out of the cart completely.

0:06:49 > 0:06:51Well, the wheel didn't notice at first,

0:06:51 > 0:06:55but then, suddenly, the wheel came off, too.

0:06:56 > 0:06:58GASPS

0:06:58 > 0:07:01The farmer couldn't believe what had happened.

0:07:01 > 0:07:04And that's when the wheel realised something.

0:07:06 > 0:07:08"I should have listened to that the bolt.

0:07:08 > 0:07:12"Without all the other parts of the cart, I can't go anywhere.

0:07:12 > 0:07:14"I'm sorry."

0:07:14 > 0:07:16"We forgive you, wheel,

0:07:16 > 0:07:19"but remember next time that everyone is important.

0:07:19 > 0:07:23"All of us parts should listen to each other. That's fair."

0:07:23 > 0:07:26The wheel listened to what the other cart parts

0:07:26 > 0:07:30had to say, and they all agreed to have a long, well-earned rest.

0:07:32 > 0:07:36Thank you, Cole, for helping to tell today's Treasure Story.

0:07:36 > 0:07:41It was based on an old folk tale. See you again soon, bye!

0:07:42 > 0:07:43Wow!

0:07:43 > 0:07:46What a Treasure Champ that little bolt was,

0:07:46 > 0:07:49standing up for democracy like that.

0:07:49 > 0:07:50Thingy!

0:07:50 > 0:07:54Let's have another vote to decide what to do next.

0:07:54 > 0:07:58But this time we're not going to do loudest voice wins,

0:07:58 > 0:08:02- we're going to do what most of us want to do.- Brilliant!

0:08:02 > 0:08:05- So, how many of us want to play ball?- Thingy!

0:08:07 > 0:08:11One. And how many of us want to read a book?

0:08:11 > 0:08:14- Me!- Me!- That's two.

0:08:14 > 0:08:17That's decided, then. We're reading a... Hey!

0:08:19 > 0:08:25While we get our books back, let's see what you know about democracy.

0:08:25 > 0:08:26Come back!

0:08:32 > 0:08:34# How, how, how do you do it?

0:08:34 > 0:08:37# How, how, how does it feel?

0:08:37 > 0:08:39- # How does it look... - What do you do...

0:08:39 > 0:08:41- BOTH:- # ..about this treasure?

0:08:41 > 0:08:43# It's over to you! #

0:08:47 > 0:08:51Hi, I'm Vappy and I'm seven. This is my little brother Fraser.

0:08:51 > 0:08:55He's five. We love reading books.

0:08:55 > 0:08:57We get lots of our books from our local library.

0:08:57 > 0:09:00These books are due back today.

0:09:00 > 0:09:04Do you want to gather them up and we'll take back to the library?

0:09:05 > 0:09:10We love going to the library. There are so many books to choose from.

0:09:10 > 0:09:14A few years ago, our local library was going to close,

0:09:14 > 0:09:17so Mum and I campaigned to keep it open.

0:09:17 > 0:09:22Campaigning means letting people know about something you believe in.

0:09:22 > 0:09:26He would creep up behind them before going, "Boo!"

0:09:28 > 0:09:31We've chosen some more books for this week,

0:09:31 > 0:09:34so we need to check them out...

0:09:35 > 0:09:38..and return our other books.

0:09:40 > 0:09:45We think our library is great, so we are making posters and flyers

0:09:45 > 0:09:50to tell everyone, to encourage them to use the library as well.

0:09:54 > 0:09:58These are beautiful, guys. Shall we go and photocopy them?

0:09:58 > 0:10:02- Yeah.- Go on, you pick them up and we'll go and do that.

0:10:13 > 0:10:16BARRY: Ooh! Those are nice pictures!

0:10:16 > 0:10:20They're not just pictures, Barry, they're special posters.

0:10:20 > 0:10:22Oh. That's a clever way of making

0:10:22 > 0:10:25- their voice heard.- Exactly, Barry!

0:10:25 > 0:10:27That's democracy.

0:10:27 > 0:10:30VAPPY: We are also handing out flyers.

0:10:32 > 0:10:35Even though I'm small, my voice can still be heard.

0:10:35 > 0:10:40I hope even more people will enjoy visiting the library now.

0:10:43 > 0:10:45- BOTH:- # Treasure Champs! #

0:10:49 > 0:10:52Hi, I'm Lilly, and I'm seven.

0:10:53 > 0:10:58Today is the last day of school before the summer holidays.

0:10:58 > 0:11:02This morning, we're in for a treat because we filled our jar.

0:11:02 > 0:11:04This is our teacher, Mrs Hope.

0:11:04 > 0:11:07We need to vote for what we want our treat to be,

0:11:07 > 0:11:09cos it's got to be fair, hasn't it?

0:11:09 > 0:11:14So Lilly's going to explain to us how the voting system works.

0:11:14 > 0:11:17You can tick whichever box you want.

0:11:17 > 0:11:23We can either have a whole afternoon doing whatever we want...

0:11:23 > 0:11:29This one is at the park, this one is at a movie in the classroom,

0:11:29 > 0:11:31and this one is a party,

0:11:31 > 0:11:33party in the classroom.

0:11:33 > 0:11:37So the team with the most votes would win.

0:11:37 > 0:11:42It's really important that the whole class think carefully

0:11:42 > 0:11:46about their votes, and choose which treat they would like.

0:11:46 > 0:11:49So remember, everyone, this part's quiet, OK?

0:11:49 > 0:11:52There's no talking and your voting is secret.

0:11:52 > 0:11:54BARRY: It can be this hard

0:11:54 > 0:11:56to decide something

0:11:56 > 0:11:58- when there are lots of you.- I know.

0:11:58 > 0:12:02That's why giving everyone a vote means it's fair.

0:12:02 > 0:12:05Democracy doesn't mean everyone gets their way,

0:12:05 > 0:12:08but everyone gets a say.

0:12:08 > 0:12:11LILLY: I get to vote, too. I'm not

0:12:11 > 0:12:13telling anyone what I'm voting for.

0:12:15 > 0:12:22We fold up the paper so no-one can see what other people voted for.

0:12:25 > 0:12:29Now it's time to put our votes in the ballot box.

0:12:29 > 0:12:31Next job, we need to count them.

0:12:31 > 0:12:36Now everyone has voted, it's time to find out what our treat will be.

0:12:38 > 0:12:41So, Lilly and I have counted up all your votes,

0:12:41 > 0:12:44and the winner is... we're going to be park!

0:12:44 > 0:12:45CHEERING

0:12:48 > 0:12:49This is so exciting.

0:12:49 > 0:12:53We all get to enjoy a treat on the very last day of school.

0:12:57 > 0:12:59We all voted, had our say,

0:12:59 > 0:13:02and now we all get to have fun.

0:13:05 > 0:13:06Mm, mm, mm.

0:13:06 > 0:13:08Stop!

0:13:08 > 0:13:10Wow! You Treasure Champs

0:13:10 > 0:13:12really get democracy.

0:13:12 > 0:13:15We know you wanted to play with the ball, but the thing

0:13:15 > 0:13:18about democracy is sometimes

0:13:18 > 0:13:20you don't get what you want.

0:13:20 > 0:13:24That's right, like when we played ball earlier.

0:13:24 > 0:13:28And now we voted to read a book together!

0:13:28 > 0:13:30Woohoo!

0:13:30 > 0:13:32Thingy!

0:13:33 > 0:13:39- Barry, look, Thingy's seen a picture of a ball!- Oh!- Thingy!

0:13:39 > 0:13:42- See you next time. - BOTH:- Bye!

0:13:52 > 0:13:54# So every day, let's do our best

0:13:54 > 0:13:56# We're Treasure Champs

0:13:56 > 0:13:58# We're on a quest

0:13:58 > 0:14:00# We're Treasure Champs

0:14:02 > 0:14:03# Treasure Champs! #
