0:02:16 > 0:02:20I was generous because...

0:02:20 > 0:02:25..because I gave one of my favourite toys away.

0:02:25 > 0:02:29Sometimes, you want to keep something to yourself

0:04:19 > 0:04:21Let's hear a story about a Treasure Champ

0:04:21 > 0:04:24learning to be generous.

0:04:26 > 0:04:29Hello, I'm Omar and this is the amazing story of

0:04:29 > 0:04:32the rich man and the needle.

0:04:35 > 0:04:41A long time ago, there was a man called Duni Chand.

0:04:41 > 0:04:44Duni Chand was very rich.

0:04:44 > 0:04:49He had more money than he knew what to do with.

0:04:49 > 0:04:52KNOCKING AT DOOR

0:04:52 > 0:04:57These people were hungry and pleaded for some of Duni's money,

0:04:57 > 0:05:00but he wasn't generous with it at all.

0:05:05 > 0:05:09Duni Chand didn't share his money with people.

0:05:09 > 0:05:12He just kept it all for himself.

0:05:12 > 0:05:17But, one day, he had a very special visitor -

0:05:17 > 0:05:20a man called Guru Nanak.

0:05:20 > 0:05:24Guru Nanak was a very good teacher,

0:05:24 > 0:05:29giving his wise words, care and time to those who needed them.

0:05:35 > 0:05:40Oh, namaste. You're very welcome here, Guru Nanak. Please...

0:05:40 > 0:05:43Oh, sorry!

0:05:43 > 0:05:45Sit.

0:05:46 > 0:05:50I am honoured by your visit here today.

0:05:50 > 0:05:55Guru Nanak noticed all the flags that were outside the house

0:05:55 > 0:05:57and he wondered why they were there.

0:05:57 > 0:06:00Duni proudly replied,

0:06:00 > 0:06:04"There are a lot of flags as I have a lot of money."

0:06:08 > 0:06:11Guru Nanak didn't say anything.

0:06:11 > 0:06:14He was thinking of a clever way to explain to Duni

0:06:14 > 0:06:19that it was more important to be generous than to be rich.

0:06:19 > 0:06:23Guru Nanak pulled out a small, wooden needle

0:06:23 > 0:06:26and gave it to Duni Chand.

0:06:26 > 0:06:28Guru Nanak asked Duni Chand

0:06:28 > 0:06:31if he believed he would go to heaven after he died.

0:06:31 > 0:06:38Duni replied, "Well, yes, of course, Guru Nanak. I hope."

0:06:38 > 0:06:42Guru Nanak asked him to take the needle,

0:06:42 > 0:06:45to look after it for all his life

0:06:45 > 0:06:47and then to give it back to him

0:06:47 > 0:06:50when they had both died and gone to heaven.

0:06:51 > 0:06:54Duni agreed.

0:06:56 > 0:06:58Duni felt very puzzled.

0:06:58 > 0:07:02Why was this needle so important to Guru Nanak?

0:07:02 > 0:07:07How could you take a needle with you after you die?

0:07:07 > 0:07:10Duni told his wife about it.

0:07:10 > 0:07:15She was very wise and told him there was only one answer -

0:07:15 > 0:07:18it was impossible.

0:07:18 > 0:07:21He wouldn't be able to take the needle with him

0:07:21 > 0:07:23to heaven after he died.

0:07:23 > 0:07:26He must give it back to Guru Nanak.

0:07:29 > 0:07:31Please, take this needle back.

0:07:31 > 0:07:34I now realise I can't take the needle with me

0:07:34 > 0:07:39and I also know that I can't take any money with me either.

0:07:39 > 0:07:41All I can take with me are my good deeds.

0:07:44 > 0:07:47From that day, Duni Chand decided to be really generous

0:07:47 > 0:07:50and give lots to people who really needed it.

0:07:50 > 0:07:53Who wants some fruit?

0:07:53 > 0:07:57That is an old Sikh story from the life of Guru Nanak.

0:07:57 > 0:08:03Thank you so much for helping tell today's story. See you soon. Bye.
