0:00:02 > 0:00:05- I'm Imogen.- And I'm Amelia. - BOTH:- And we're identical twins.

0:00:05 > 0:00:07And we're 11 years old.

0:00:07 > 0:00:11This summer we're taking on the challenge of competing

0:00:11 > 0:00:14at the National Dwarf Games.

0:00:14 > 0:00:16The Dwarf Games is where loads of people who have

0:00:16 > 0:00:21dwarfism or restricted growth come along and play sports.

0:00:21 > 0:00:23We don't just play.

0:00:23 > 0:00:27Even though we're best friends, we're also incredibly competitive.

0:00:27 > 0:00:30I'm the winner! And you're the loser.

0:00:30 > 0:00:32'So, how will we get on?'

0:00:32 > 0:00:37During the games we're taking part in lots of different sports,

0:00:37 > 0:00:40and today we're competing for a medal in running.

0:00:40 > 0:00:43Come back here, Amelia! That was rubbish.

0:00:43 > 0:00:47But we know we're going to have to put in a huge effort.

0:00:47 > 0:00:49Push, push, push, push, push! Oh, wow!

0:00:49 > 0:00:51And get help from the experts...

0:00:51 > 0:00:54You need to get your act together, come on, let's do it!

0:00:54 > 0:00:56Remember, we're going to be confident about this.

0:00:56 > 0:00:59..If we're going to go from wannabes to winners.

0:01:03 > 0:01:06'We're really nervous about running in front of the big

0:01:06 > 0:01:08'crowds at the Dwarf Games

0:01:08 > 0:01:12'so we've come to the quiet bit of the park for some practice.'

0:01:12 > 0:01:13Right.

0:01:13 > 0:01:18- Let's practise our running. I'll time you and you time me.- OK!

0:01:18 > 0:01:20On your marks, get set, go!

0:01:22 > 0:01:26Hang on, that's not how you start. Come here.

0:01:26 > 0:01:28- Well, why don't you do it?- OK.

0:01:29 > 0:01:32On your marks, get set, go!

0:01:34 > 0:01:37Come back here, Amelia. That was rubbish.

0:01:37 > 0:01:39I think we need some help.

0:01:39 > 0:01:42Yeah.

0:01:42 > 0:01:46- Our running is all over the place, especially when we start.- Yeah.

0:01:46 > 0:01:49I hate it when people watch me run.

0:01:49 > 0:01:51I'm just not that confident.

0:01:51 > 0:01:53Yeah, me, too.

0:01:54 > 0:01:59This is the amazing Lee Valley Athletics Centre, where Olympic

0:01:59 > 0:02:03and Paralympic athletes come to train.

0:02:03 > 0:02:06Athletes like Christine Ohuruogu.

0:02:06 > 0:02:10- Wow! That was fast!- Of course Christine's fast.

0:02:10 > 0:02:14She's ONLY got an Olympic gold medal for the 400 metres.

0:02:14 > 0:02:16She's GOT to be able to help.

0:02:16 > 0:02:20We would really like you to help us on our starts,

0:02:20 > 0:02:24and me and Imogen are not that keen on people watching us.

0:02:24 > 0:02:27I don't like people watching me, either.

0:02:27 > 0:02:28So we have something in common.

0:02:28 > 0:02:30I will show you how to start and

0:02:30 > 0:02:32hopefully you won't beat me in a race.

0:02:32 > 0:02:34- Ready?- Yeah.- Yeah.- Cool. Let's go.

0:02:34 > 0:02:39We're going to have one in this lane and Amelia in this lane

0:02:39 > 0:02:42and I just want to have a little look to see what you look like.

0:02:42 > 0:02:45Three, two, one, let's go!

0:02:46 > 0:02:48Oh, wow, OK.

0:02:48 > 0:02:53- Was that good?- Yeah, it wasn't bad, but I can show you a few more tips.

0:02:53 > 0:02:55You have to decide which leg is your strongest leg.

0:02:55 > 0:02:58For me, my strongest leg is my right leg.

0:02:58 > 0:03:00This is the one that does all the work.

0:03:00 > 0:03:02And then, if I'm going to have my right leg in front,

0:03:02 > 0:03:06I need to have my left arm in front.

0:03:06 > 0:03:08So you can have momentum as you're running.

0:03:08 > 0:03:10You've got to bring your foot right to the line as well.

0:03:10 > 0:03:12As close to the line as you can but not touching.

0:03:12 > 0:03:14If you touch, it's disqualification.

0:03:14 > 0:03:17And what you're going to do, you're going to do a little lean.

0:03:17 > 0:03:19So instead of standing upright like this,

0:03:19 > 0:03:22we're going to stand like this and come down really low.

0:03:22 > 0:03:23That's beautiful, Amelia.

0:03:23 > 0:03:27I think we're going to have some good runners out of you two.

0:03:27 > 0:03:30I'm excited. On your marks,

0:03:30 > 0:03:31get set...

0:03:33 > 0:03:39Go! Push, push, push, push, push, push, push, push, push... Brilliant!

0:03:39 > 0:03:43Good job. You've got some turnover there, haven't you?

0:03:45 > 0:03:48Are you ready for the twins' cheeky question?

0:03:48 > 0:03:49SHE GASPS

0:03:49 > 0:03:54Am I ready? OK, go. I'm ready.

0:03:54 > 0:03:58- Have you ever fallen over in a race?- No.

0:03:58 > 0:04:02I have seen people fall. And it's not funny.

0:04:02 > 0:04:05- I mean, it's funny now, but it's not funny.- Yeah.- Good luck in Rio.

0:04:05 > 0:04:10- Thank you.- I hope you bring back the medal.- I'll be trying my best!

0:04:10 > 0:04:12I feel so speedy now.

0:04:12 > 0:04:16Yeah, but I'm still worried about people watching me when I'm running.

0:04:16 > 0:04:20YOU need more confidence. Let's go and see Matt from Radio 1.

0:04:20 > 0:04:22Let's go!

0:04:28 > 0:04:33We're at the home of Radio 1 to meet Matt Edmondson.

0:04:33 > 0:04:35If we can ever find him!

0:04:35 > 0:04:40Matt is one of the biggest stars at Radio 1, so he must be really

0:04:40 > 0:04:44- confident to talk to millions of people on the radio.- Hello, you two.

0:04:44 > 0:04:45How are you doing?

0:04:45 > 0:04:47- BOTH: Good, thank you. - How can I help today?

0:04:47 > 0:04:51- Well, me and Imogen would like some help on confidence.- Confidence.

0:04:51 > 0:04:53Because, when we run, we're not that confident.

0:04:53 > 0:04:56Now, obviously I'm not much of an athlete... Look at me!

0:04:56 > 0:04:58But I can probably help with the confidence stuff because when

0:04:58 > 0:05:02I first started at Radio 1, I did not know anything at all.

0:05:02 > 0:05:04But I kind of learnt on the job and I sort of had to

0:05:04 > 0:05:08- "fake it to make it". Have you heard that phrase before?- Not really.

0:05:08 > 0:05:11It's basically when you go there and you just try your best at the

0:05:11 > 0:05:13thing until you become good at it.

0:05:13 > 0:05:16Girls, when it comes to confidence, a lot of it is about throwing

0:05:16 > 0:05:19yourself into the situation and coping with whatever comes at you.

0:05:19 > 0:05:21And I know you do that with sport,

0:05:21 > 0:05:23but how do you fancy doing it on the radio?

0:05:25 > 0:05:29I can put you on the radio in about 30 seconds,

0:05:29 > 0:05:32all you have to do is talk for a bit and then say, "Here's the Vamps."

0:05:32 > 0:05:35Matt, are you serious? We're going to be live on Radio 1?

0:05:35 > 0:05:37Absolutely serious, so you need to get your act together.

0:05:37 > 0:05:40- Come on, we're going to be confident about this.- I feel really nervous.

0:05:40 > 0:05:42I don't know what to say.

0:05:42 > 0:05:44Well, you're going to have to work something out because we're

0:05:44 > 0:05:47going live in five, four, three, two, one!

0:05:49 > 0:05:52- Hi, we're Amelia and Imogen. - And this is the Vamps.

0:05:53 > 0:05:54VAMPS PLAYS

0:05:56 > 0:05:59Perfect. Very good. Give me a high five.

0:05:59 > 0:06:02Very nice. Very nice work.

0:06:02 > 0:06:05- Was that really on the radio? - Well... No, it wasn't.

0:06:05 > 0:06:08I just wanted you to feel what it would be like to be on the

0:06:08 > 0:06:11radio so that you had that moment of confidence as you went for it.

0:06:11 > 0:06:12You were really good, though.

0:06:12 > 0:06:15So next time you're back in, we will put you live on the radio.

0:06:15 > 0:06:18- How do you feel about that?- Argh! Can't believe you tricked us!

0:06:18 > 0:06:19We'll get you back next time!

0:06:20 > 0:06:23That was sooo cheeky from Matt.

0:06:23 > 0:06:26But actually, it's really helped.

0:06:26 > 0:06:30- It's nice to know that everyone lacks confidence sometimes.- Yeah.

0:06:30 > 0:06:32I'm going to be more confident now.

0:06:32 > 0:06:35I'm going to press the lift button very confidently.

0:06:35 > 0:06:38And I'm going to walk into the lift very confidently.

0:06:46 > 0:06:48Now, we're full of confidence.

0:06:48 > 0:06:51We're ready to take on the National Dwarf Games.

0:06:54 > 0:06:58The Dwarf Games is where loads of people who have dwarfism or

0:06:58 > 0:07:01restricted growth come along and play sports.

0:07:01 > 0:07:03I've got my running trainers.

0:07:03 > 0:07:05Hopefully I'm going to win a medal with these.

0:07:05 > 0:07:10I really like it because I get to meet friends and make new friends.

0:07:10 > 0:07:13I'm hoping to achieve loads of medals and hopefully come

0:07:13 > 0:07:16home with a couple of golds.

0:07:16 > 0:07:21And obviously, there's some things we just can't leave home without.

0:07:21 > 0:07:22It won't fit in!

0:07:27 > 0:07:29I think I'm the most competitive twin.

0:07:29 > 0:07:34I just really love to beat my sister, in a way.

0:07:38 > 0:07:41We've finally arrived at the games.

0:07:46 > 0:07:52And all of us here have been working hard to take home those medals.

0:07:59 > 0:08:04During our warm-up, we try to remember everything Christine

0:08:04 > 0:08:08- and Matt taught us about being confident.- Are you ready to run?

0:08:08 > 0:08:10- I'm ready! What about you?- Yeah!

0:08:10 > 0:08:12Let's go!

0:08:12 > 0:08:16It's our first event and our nerves are really on edge.

0:08:16 > 0:08:18STARTING PISTOL FIRES Oh!

0:08:20 > 0:08:22And there's just time for some

0:08:22 > 0:08:26last-minute advice from one of the coaches.

0:08:26 > 0:08:29Kids, what's the most important thing about this race?

0:08:29 > 0:08:33- Go!- Go.- Go on the gun. As soon as it goes bang, off you go. OK?

0:08:33 > 0:08:37No hesitating, no looking around. And go right to the finish.

0:08:39 > 0:08:42On the start line, I remembered everything Christine had showed me.

0:08:42 > 0:08:47- How to stand, and focus on the race. - Good luck, girls.

0:08:47 > 0:08:51I felt quite nervous, but I did feel quite competitive.

0:08:51 > 0:08:54I felt as though... like I needed to win.

0:08:55 > 0:08:56On your marks...

0:08:59 > 0:09:01..set...

0:09:01 > 0:09:03STARTING PISTOL FIRES

0:09:03 > 0:09:06I started well. The problem was, I

0:09:06 > 0:09:09wasn't as fast as some other people.

0:09:09 > 0:09:10Come on, Amelia!

0:09:10 > 0:09:13I was just running as fast as I possibly could,

0:09:13 > 0:09:16and I was focusing on that finish line.

0:09:16 > 0:09:17I knew my sister was behind me.

0:09:17 > 0:09:20And when I crossed the line, I was exhausted.

0:09:24 > 0:09:27But have either of us done well enough to get a medal?

0:09:27 > 0:09:30The Under-11 60 metres...

0:09:31 > 0:09:35Oh, my gosh! Amelia got bronze!

0:09:35 > 0:09:37I was lost for words.

0:09:37 > 0:09:41I was so happy because I'd actually won that medal and I was ecstatic.

0:09:41 > 0:09:45When I crossed the finish line I felt kind of disappointed

0:09:45 > 0:09:49because I knew that I was one of the last ones, but just make the

0:09:49 > 0:09:53most of it and have fun and remember that there's always another chance.

0:09:53 > 0:09:56- CHANTS:- I got a medal! I got a medal!

0:09:56 > 0:10:00- Yeah, but the next one's going to be for me!- Sure?- Yeah!

0:10:00 > 0:10:03Yes, Amelia! Next time, I'm going to win!
