0:00:02 > 0:00:03- I'm Imogen...- And I'm Amelia.

0:00:03 > 0:00:05BOTH: And we're identical twins.

0:00:05 > 0:00:07And we're 11 years old.

0:00:09 > 0:00:13This summer, we're competing at the National Dwarf Games,

0:00:13 > 0:00:17the UK's biggest sporting event for little people.

0:00:17 > 0:00:22Today, we're competing for the gold medal in swimming.

0:00:27 > 0:00:30We're getting ready for our swimming races.

0:00:30 > 0:00:32By...um...

0:00:32 > 0:00:35playing badminton in the back garden, of course.

0:00:35 > 0:00:38But even at this, we're competitive.

0:00:38 > 0:00:39One point to me!

0:00:39 > 0:00:41If I get another one,

0:00:41 > 0:00:43you lose, and I win.

0:00:46 > 0:00:49Yes! I'm the winner, and you're the loser.

0:00:49 > 0:00:53Uh-huh, uh-huh, uh-huh...

0:00:55 > 0:00:56Right, girls, come here, please.

0:00:58 > 0:01:01Now, that wasn't very good sportsmanship, was it?

0:01:01 > 0:01:03- No.- No.

0:01:03 > 0:01:05We can't behave like that, it's not nice, it's not kind.

0:01:05 > 0:01:08I don't want any of that at the Dwarf Games.

0:01:08 > 0:01:09'Oh, dear.

0:01:09 > 0:01:12'If we keep arguing like this,

0:01:12 > 0:01:15'we might even get disqualified from the games.'

0:01:15 > 0:01:18Clearly, we're not the best at being good sports.

0:01:18 > 0:01:21But it's hard when you're a twin, like us.

0:01:21 > 0:01:23Because you spend so much time together.

0:01:23 > 0:01:25Maybe we should meet up

0:01:25 > 0:01:28with some people who spend lots of time together.

0:01:28 > 0:01:30Yeah, great idea.

0:01:30 > 0:01:33What about the two Olympic rowers, Helen and Heather?

0:01:33 > 0:01:35They could definitely help.

0:01:37 > 0:01:40So, before we even attempt to get better at swimming,

0:01:40 > 0:01:44we're going to have to learn to stop arguing.

0:01:44 > 0:01:46Today, we're at the GB Team lake.

0:01:46 > 0:01:50Cos we need to learn some tips about sportsmanship,

0:01:50 > 0:01:51cos we're not that good at it.

0:01:51 > 0:01:53- Yes, we are.- No, we're not. - Yes, we are.

0:01:53 > 0:01:57- No, we're not.- Anyway, let's go and meet Helen and Heather.

0:01:58 > 0:02:03Heather Stanning and Helen Glover are the first-ever British women

0:02:03 > 0:02:06to win an Olympic gold medal in rowing.

0:02:06 > 0:02:11Now, they have to spend most of their time in a tiny boat together,

0:02:11 > 0:02:15so maybe they can help us be nice to each other.

0:02:15 > 0:02:18- We need some help, cos me and Amelia bicker a bit.- Oh, really?

0:02:18 > 0:02:20Well, we've been rowing together

0:02:20 > 0:02:22for six years now,

0:02:22 > 0:02:25and probably count on one hand how many times we've had an argument.

0:02:25 > 0:02:26That many times.

0:02:26 > 0:02:28'No arguments at all?'

0:02:28 > 0:02:30- We always argue.- Do you?

0:02:31 > 0:02:33The reason we don't really have arguments

0:02:33 > 0:02:34is cos we listen to each other.

0:02:34 > 0:02:37And we might not always agree with that person, but we still listen.

0:02:37 > 0:02:40I think that's probably the biggest thing that we've learnt, isn't it,

0:02:40 > 0:02:43over the few years that we've rowed together?

0:02:43 > 0:02:45'I wonder if their example would help us

0:02:45 > 0:02:48'with our own competitiveness?'

0:02:48 > 0:02:51Right, shall we have a race to see who's the fastest?

0:02:51 > 0:02:53Ready... Steady... Go!

0:02:54 > 0:02:57- Yeah, well done.- You're doing well, there, as well.

0:02:57 > 0:02:58You'll start to get out of breath,

0:02:58 > 0:03:01so make sure you're thinking about your breathing,

0:03:01 > 0:03:02and you're calm...

0:03:02 > 0:03:06- Keep going.- Really well done, it's going to be really close, Imogen.

0:03:06 > 0:03:07Keep pushing your legs.

0:03:07 > 0:03:09Put the rate up, more strokes, more strokes.

0:03:09 > 0:03:12Get more strokes than your sister. Go on, that's it, that's it!

0:03:12 > 0:03:13You got it, you got it!

0:03:16 > 0:03:18Well done.

0:03:18 > 0:03:22I wo-on. I won, I wo-on. I won.

0:03:22 > 0:03:23- Imogen.- I won, I wo-on.

0:03:23 > 0:03:26- Remember what we've just been taught?- Oh, yeah, sorry.

0:03:26 > 0:03:29To be a good athlete, you have to be a good sport.

0:03:29 > 0:03:32So no boasting if you win, and no crying if you lose.

0:03:32 > 0:03:36I'm so ha...ha...

0:03:36 > 0:03:38Do I have to say it? ..happy that you won.

0:03:38 > 0:03:41I think it's going to take a bit more practice

0:03:41 > 0:03:42to get the hang of this.

0:03:44 > 0:03:47As we keep working on being nice to each other,

0:03:47 > 0:03:50it's time to actually get to a swimming pool.

0:03:50 > 0:03:54This is where all the Olympics and Paralympics swimmers train.

0:03:54 > 0:03:58So we thought it would be the best place to come and get some tips...

0:03:58 > 0:04:00..to help us swim as fast as possible.

0:04:00 > 0:04:02BOTH: Let's go!

0:04:05 > 0:04:09Lucky for us, we're meeting Steph Millward,

0:04:09 > 0:04:12one of Britain's best Paralympic swimmers.

0:04:14 > 0:04:16Wow, that must be Steph.

0:04:16 > 0:04:17If we could dive like that,

0:04:17 > 0:04:20we would definitely be taking home some medals.

0:04:21 > 0:04:23Thank you for coming to watch me train.

0:04:23 > 0:04:25Is there anything I can do to help you?

0:04:25 > 0:04:28The one thing we're not good at is our dive starts.

0:04:29 > 0:04:31Maybe I should just watch your diving, see how you dive.

0:04:35 > 0:04:37The first dive wasn't very good,

0:04:37 > 0:04:41because I felt like I was just doing a belly flop on the water.

0:04:41 > 0:04:44The three tips I've got for you, one is your feet.

0:04:44 > 0:04:46I want you to drive from your feet.

0:04:46 > 0:04:48So all the power coming through body from your feet.

0:04:48 > 0:04:51One, two, three,

0:04:51 > 0:04:52dive!

0:04:52 > 0:04:55'That felt a bit better. We pushed hard from our feet.'

0:04:55 > 0:04:59The second one is, I want you to pretend you're a pencil.

0:04:59 > 0:05:01'Pretend to be a pencil?'

0:05:01 > 0:05:03You're going to be really, really streamlined,

0:05:03 > 0:05:06really long, really thin. And point your toes.

0:05:06 > 0:05:08I don't want to be see any drags,

0:05:08 > 0:05:10be as thin as you can be when you're diving.

0:05:10 > 0:05:13'We don't want to pretend to be a pencil on our own.

0:05:13 > 0:05:16'So Steph's joining us for our final dive.'

0:05:17 > 0:05:21After those tips, I felt like my diving got way better.

0:05:22 > 0:05:26- That was fantastic swimming, guys. Who wants a race?- Me!

0:05:26 > 0:05:28'Racing a Paralympian?

0:05:28 > 0:05:29'You must think we're mad.'

0:05:35 > 0:05:36'But we have a plan.

0:05:40 > 0:05:42'Sometimes, it helps to be a twin.

0:05:46 > 0:05:48'And Steph will never know.'

0:05:48 > 0:05:50Shh!

0:05:50 > 0:05:53She's helped us with our swimming,

0:05:53 > 0:05:56but can Steph actually help us be better sports?

0:05:56 > 0:05:58You get on really, really well.

0:05:58 > 0:06:00- Do you always get on well?- No.- No.

0:06:00 > 0:06:03- It drives Mum mad.- Oh, no.

0:06:03 > 0:06:07We were wondering how you would feel, when you lose?

0:06:07 > 0:06:10Whenever I lose, I always think, is my... Am I learning?

0:06:10 > 0:06:13So I just need to learn from the mistake and try and find

0:06:13 > 0:06:15all the strengths of the swim.

0:06:15 > 0:06:18What did I do right, what did I do wrong, what can I work on?

0:06:18 > 0:06:20Sometimes, when your team-mate doesn't swim very well

0:06:20 > 0:06:23and you do swim well, you have to be positive for them.

0:06:23 > 0:06:26It was amazing, being taught by a Paralympic swimmer.

0:06:26 > 0:06:30And now, when we go to the dwarf games, we can be fast.

0:06:30 > 0:06:32And we might not even fight.

0:06:38 > 0:06:42It's finally time for the National Dwarf Games.

0:06:45 > 0:06:49Hundreds of people from all over the UK compete.

0:06:49 > 0:06:53And all of us dream of taking home a gold medal.

0:06:57 > 0:07:00This is the event we've all been waiting for.

0:07:00 > 0:07:02BOTH: Swimming!

0:07:02 > 0:07:05I heard Ellie Simmonds is here. I hope we can meet her.

0:07:05 > 0:07:06BOTH: Let's go!

0:07:07 > 0:07:10- No, Imogen. This way.- Oh.

0:07:10 > 0:07:12Time for a warm up,

0:07:12 > 0:07:14and for a quick chat with Ellie.

0:07:14 > 0:07:17So, Amelia is winning more medals than me.

0:07:17 > 0:07:20How do you cope when you're losing?

0:07:20 > 0:07:23Um. Well, I'm a bit of a sore loser as well.

0:07:23 > 0:07:25I hate losing.

0:07:25 > 0:07:29But, for me, when I don't win, I use that as a motivation, so I...

0:07:29 > 0:07:33I get back in the pool and train even harder,

0:07:33 > 0:07:37so I work so hard that my other competitors don't beat me.

0:07:37 > 0:07:41So, you've just got to support each other, so when Amelia's swimming,

0:07:41 > 0:07:43you've got to cheer her on,

0:07:43 > 0:07:45when Imogen's swimming you've got to cheer her on, so...

0:07:45 > 0:07:48Or, what other sports you're doing, just support each other.

0:07:48 > 0:07:52- Thanks so much, Ellie.- Good luck in Rio, I hope you get the medals.

0:07:53 > 0:07:57Can we put into practice everything we've learned?

0:07:57 > 0:07:59Giving our all for the race,

0:07:59 > 0:08:03but being happy for each other, whatever the result?

0:08:03 > 0:08:05Good luck. One length.

0:08:05 > 0:08:06Give it your best.

0:08:07 > 0:08:10The nerves are really kicking in now.

0:08:11 > 0:08:14Before diving off for the race, I was actually quite worried

0:08:14 > 0:08:18either I was going to get disqualified, or anything like that.

0:08:18 > 0:08:19WHISTLE BLOWS

0:08:19 > 0:08:23We've got to focus on getting this dive right.

0:08:25 > 0:08:26BEEP

0:08:28 > 0:08:30Go, Amelia!

0:08:30 > 0:08:31Go, Imogen!

0:08:32 > 0:08:35Getting off to a good start made a real difference.

0:08:35 > 0:08:38I was thinking about what they've taught me.

0:08:42 > 0:08:45I was literally like, neck and neck with Imogen.

0:08:45 > 0:08:48So, I had to, like, swim really hard, and make sure, like...

0:08:48 > 0:08:50I was hoping that I got a medal.

0:08:54 > 0:08:56Phew! That was hard work.

0:08:57 > 0:08:59When I touched the side,

0:08:59 > 0:09:01I was actually really relieved that it was over.

0:09:03 > 0:09:07I just crossed my fingers that I was going to get a medal.

0:09:07 > 0:09:10Well done, darling, you did a brilliant swim then.

0:09:10 > 0:09:13'But are either of us going to take home a medal?'

0:09:17 > 0:09:19Yes! Well done, Amelia.

0:09:19 > 0:09:20You got the bronze!

0:09:20 > 0:09:24It was a big surprise that I got the medal, so I was really happy.

0:09:24 > 0:09:29Can Imogen be a good sport about not getting a medal?

0:09:29 > 0:09:33Amelia got a medal, and I'm happy for her.

0:09:33 > 0:09:35You do just need to just...

0:09:35 > 0:09:37Just be happy for them.

0:09:39 > 0:09:42I won the swimming races, but Imogen did really well.

0:09:42 > 0:09:44I'm proud of Amelia, she did awesome.

0:09:44 > 0:09:48- See, Mum?- See, Mum?- We can be nice.

0:09:48 > 0:09:51Well done, girls. I'm really proud of you.

0:09:51 > 0:09:54Not really. We're still really competitive.

0:09:54 > 0:09:56I'm going to win.

0:09:56 > 0:09:59- No, I'm going to win.- No, I'm going to win.- I'm going to win.
