0:15:04 > 0:15:06Welcome to another Weekend Download.

0:15:06 > 0:15:07I'm in deep Berkshire,

0:15:07 > 0:15:11to find out something very strange going on on this field.

0:15:11 > 0:15:13Apparently, there's suspicions of flying saucers.

0:15:13 > 0:15:16I don't know whether it's true, but I'm here to find out.

0:15:22 > 0:15:24I'm Andy, I'm 18 years old,

0:15:24 > 0:15:26I play for Great Britain Junior's Ultimate Frisbee.

0:15:26 > 0:15:30I've been playing Frisbee for about six years now.

0:15:30 > 0:15:32I'm Lochan, I'm 14 years old,

0:15:32 > 0:15:34I've been playing Frisbee for about a year and a half.

0:15:34 > 0:15:37As well as playing for Great Britain, I also play for my local team,

0:15:37 > 0:15:40Stags. They're from Maidenhead Furze Platt School.

0:15:40 > 0:15:44So, Ultimate is like a seven-a-side team sport which is non-contact,

0:15:44 > 0:15:47and there's two end zones like in American football.

0:15:47 > 0:15:50The aim of the game is to score goals by catching

0:15:50 > 0:15:52the disc inside of the end zone.

0:15:53 > 0:15:55OK, so they're not that kind of flying saucers.

0:15:55 > 0:15:59But whilst I'm here, I might as well learn how to Frisbee. Let's go.

0:15:59 > 0:16:02What's up, guys? Nice to meet you, I'm Richard.

0:16:02 > 0:16:07- What's up, man, you all right? What's up, dude?- I'm Andy.

0:16:07 > 0:16:10- So you guys are in the GB squad for Frisbeeing, right?- Yeah.

0:16:10 > 0:16:13The only time I've ever done Frisbee is when I go on holiday.

0:16:13 > 0:16:16I've never actually played it. But there is a game you can play, right?

0:16:16 > 0:16:19Yeah, it's really fast, athletic and it's really fun to play.

0:16:19 > 0:16:20What's the first thing I need to know?

0:16:20 > 0:16:22Throwing and catching are your main skills.

0:16:22 > 0:16:25- Shall we go try it out? - Right, let's do it. Let's go.

0:16:27 > 0:16:30- So, what's first up?- We're going to learn how to throw first.

0:16:30 > 0:16:33Hold it like a fist. Firmly but not too tight.

0:16:33 > 0:16:36Second thing you need to know is your footwork. Step across

0:16:36 > 0:16:39your body, face your shoulders away from the direction you're throwing.

0:16:39 > 0:16:42So, you're going to be throwing to Lochan over there.

0:16:42 > 0:16:44Then you pull it towards you and it's just like sweeping

0:16:44 > 0:16:46the crumbs off a table, that sort of motion.

0:16:46 > 0:16:49- Try to keep the disc as parallel to the ground as possible.- OK.

0:16:49 > 0:16:52- Like that.- That's quite nice.

0:16:52 > 0:16:55- Do you want a go?- Yeah, let's do it.

0:16:55 > 0:16:59- Nice.- I made him run for that. He's a good catcher. One hand.

0:16:59 > 0:17:02You see that? It nearly sliced me.

0:17:02 > 0:17:04The safest way to catch is the pancake catch.

0:17:04 > 0:17:07One hand on top, one hand underneath.

0:17:07 > 0:17:09Spread your fingers out wide, get your body behind it.

0:17:09 > 0:17:12Right, let's have another go. So, step.

0:17:13 > 0:17:17- Nice.- That's all right. Yeah.

0:17:17 > 0:17:19One hand on top. Nice, that's perfect.

0:17:22 > 0:17:24- Right, so what's next? - Next is the forehand.

0:17:24 > 0:17:28Instead of stepping across the body, step away from the body.

0:17:28 > 0:17:29Instead of holding it like a fist,

0:17:29 > 0:17:32you hold it with two fingers on the rim just like that.

0:17:32 > 0:17:34Then with you stepped across,

0:17:34 > 0:17:35and you've opened up your shoulders

0:17:35 > 0:17:37to the direction that you're throwing in,

0:17:37 > 0:17:40then you snap your wrist, just like your whipping a towel.

0:17:40 > 0:17:43You just really snap and whip back.

0:17:43 > 0:17:48Try and snap your wrist and try and get as much rotation as possible.

0:17:48 > 0:17:50Step across. Nice. That's perfect.

0:17:50 > 0:17:52It's all about that whip at the end, innit?

0:17:56 > 0:17:59There is one I see on the internet

0:17:59 > 0:18:03when they actually hold it like this and throw it like that.

0:18:03 > 0:18:06That's called the hammer. It's the same grip as the forehand,

0:18:06 > 0:18:08same stance, you're just throwing it

0:18:08 > 0:18:11literally like a tennis ball or a baseball, over the top of your head.

0:18:11 > 0:18:14And you release it and it'll go upside down and to your receiver.

0:18:15 > 0:18:18- That's nice.- That was a good one. Wicked.

0:18:18 > 0:18:20- Thanks for teaching me, guys. - No problem.

0:18:20 > 0:18:23Usually, at this point in the VT, I get thrown into a game.

0:18:23 > 0:18:24I have no idea what I'm doing.

0:18:24 > 0:18:26I know you guys won't throw me in the deep end,

0:18:26 > 0:18:29so what I'm going to do, I'm going to go home, practise,

0:18:29 > 0:18:31let you guys know how I get on.

0:18:31 > 0:18:33Funny you should say that, cos we brought down

0:18:33 > 0:18:35our GB team-mates to give us a game.

0:18:39 > 0:18:43You stitched me up. Every time. Every time!

0:18:47 > 0:18:50All you need is a Frisbee and some cones to set it up,

0:18:50 > 0:18:53players' jumpers or use football lines.

0:18:53 > 0:18:55It's an easy sport to get good at quite quickly, as long

0:18:55 > 0:18:59as you have the determination to keep training hard and just enjoy it.

0:18:59 > 0:19:02Frisbee is so simple to get into, and a lot of fun.

0:19:02 > 0:19:06The best part is, it's cheap. You can get one for under £10.

0:19:06 > 0:19:07That's how you do it.

0:19:07 > 0:19:11Take the rim of the Frisbee in your fingers, hold it firmly but gently.

0:19:11 > 0:19:14Curl your wrist slightly back towards your body with your elbow

0:19:14 > 0:19:16pointing up and outwards.

0:19:16 > 0:19:19Bring your hand back and move your arm forward quickly.

0:19:19 > 0:19:22Throw it flat, like you're sweeping crumbs off a table,

0:19:22 > 0:19:23but not too hard.

0:19:23 > 0:19:25Catch it using the pancake method.

0:19:25 > 0:19:27Bring your hands together and bring the disc in towards your body.

0:19:29 > 0:19:32Practise throwing it. There are three main throws.

0:19:32 > 0:19:34The forehand, the backhand and the hammer.

0:19:34 > 0:19:36Start with the backhand, then move to the forehand.

0:19:36 > 0:19:38Remember, it's just like whipping a towel.

0:19:38 > 0:19:41And the hammer is the same, but over your head.

0:19:42 > 0:19:44If you want to put your skills to the test, you can play

0:19:44 > 0:19:46a game of Ultimate Frisbee.

0:19:46 > 0:19:49It's usually seven-a-side, but you can play with less if you want.

0:19:49 > 0:19:51Boys and girls together, it doesn't matter,

0:19:51 > 0:19:53and you're not allowed to touch the other players.

0:19:53 > 0:19:55The rules are, you can't run with the Frisbee.

0:19:55 > 0:19:58It's a bit like basketball. You have to stay still when you receive it.

0:19:58 > 0:20:00Pass to the other members of your team,

0:20:00 > 0:20:02and whoever's over the line when they catch it, scores.

0:20:02 > 0:20:04So, I guess we didn't find any flying saucers.

0:20:04 > 0:20:07But today, I learned how to throw a Frisbee properly.

0:20:07 > 0:20:11Which means that's Weekend Download complete. I mean, flying saucers?!
