0:00:59 > 0:01:01# Who let the dogs out?

0:01:03 > 0:01:04# Who let the dogs out?

0:01:06 > 0:01:08# Who let the dogs out? #

0:01:10 > 0:01:14Now, hundreds of trainers and their dogs tried out for this series of Who

0:01:14 > 0:01:18Let The Dogs Out? But I can only pick three for this challenge. And it's

0:01:18 > 0:01:21- going to be a tough one.- I'm interested to see which three dogs

0:01:21 > 0:01:24you've chosen for this one and I hope you've seen them all swim.

0:01:24 > 0:01:26There's no swimming pool at the try-outs, Steve.

0:01:26 > 0:01:28But yes, I have checked that they can all swim.

0:01:28 > 0:01:31I chose Thomas and Barry, James and Gem and

0:01:31 > 0:01:34Fern and Chester for today's challenge. And here's why.

0:01:41 > 0:01:44At the try-outs, dozens of dogs and their trainers were hoping to

0:01:44 > 0:01:46impress Ashleigh to get to the Dog House...

0:01:47 > 0:01:49Woo! Well done!

0:01:50 > 0:01:55..and get their paws on the ultimate prize - the Top Dog Trainer trophy.

0:01:57 > 0:02:02- The competition was fierce.- What a catch!- Today's first team from Devon

0:02:02 > 0:02:05went all out to impress Ashleigh.

0:02:05 > 0:02:08- Hello.- Hi.- Take it away.- Chester!

0:02:08 > 0:02:1212-year-old Fern and 20-month-old Springer Spaniel Chester proved in

0:02:12 > 0:02:15their try-out that they certainly have what it takes.

0:02:15 > 0:02:18- Down.- Very good.- Out.

0:02:18 > 0:02:22Chester lives up to his breed by being very springy.

0:02:22 > 0:02:27Fern is confident that he can do any trick and he learns very quickly.

0:02:27 > 0:02:30Well done, Chester. Well, I think you two are superb.

0:02:33 > 0:02:37- Hi.- Hello. I can't wait to see what you've got in store. Take it away.

0:02:38 > 0:02:42James is 12. Border Collie Gem is four and they're from Bristol.

0:02:43 > 0:02:45Up.

0:02:45 > 0:02:46Catch.

0:02:46 > 0:02:52Wow! Gem certainly knows a trick or two and she loves her balls.

0:02:52 > 0:02:55Good girl. Perfect. That was good.

0:02:55 > 0:02:57So she did all the stuff that you wanted her to do.

0:02:57 > 0:03:00- Yeah.- Brilliant. Well done. You're free to go.- Thank you.

0:03:02 > 0:03:06- Can you introduce yourselves, please? - I'm Thomas and this is Barry.

0:03:06 > 0:03:08- Well, the floor is all yours. - Leave it.

0:03:08 > 0:03:10Thomas is 13 and Barry's just

0:03:10 > 0:03:1518 months old. He's the baby of the bunch and they're from Kent.

0:03:15 > 0:03:19- Well done! That is pretty impressive. - You've only been teaching him that

0:03:19 > 0:03:22- this week.- He must pick things up really quickly, then.- Sit. Down.

0:03:22 > 0:03:24- Roll over.- He certainly does, Ashleigh.

0:03:24 > 0:03:25Speak.

0:03:25 > 0:03:26HE BARKS

0:03:26 > 0:03:31- Good boy.- Barry, like Chester, is a Springer Spaniel and loves jumping.

0:03:31 > 0:03:35- He's definitely enthusiastic, isn't he?- Yeah.- Brilliant.- Thank you.

0:03:41 > 0:03:45Three very talented trainers and their dogs have made it to

0:03:45 > 0:03:48the Dog House. Down at the lake, it's time for Ashleigh to introduce

0:03:48 > 0:03:52them to dog expert Steve, who'll reveal their challenge.

0:03:52 > 0:03:54- Hi, guys. CHILDREN:- Hi.

0:03:54 > 0:03:56This is Steve, our lovely dog trainer here,

0:03:56 > 0:03:57who's going to be helping us out.

0:03:57 > 0:04:00- How you doing? You all right?- Yeah. - Good, good.- Good. Now, today's

0:04:00 > 0:04:05challenge is completely new to Who Let The Dogs Out? And personally, I

0:04:05 > 0:04:08- can't wait.- Today, you guys are going to start teaching your dogs how to

0:04:08 > 0:04:12complete an awesome assault course. To start off with, you only need the

0:04:12 > 0:04:14water. Later on, we're going to bring in some jumps,

0:04:14 > 0:04:16we're going to bring in the tunnel.

0:04:16 > 0:04:18So when it gets to Showtime, your dogs will need to go

0:04:18 > 0:04:22through a tunnel, jump three hurdles, swim a stretch of water and

0:04:22 > 0:04:24collect the toy.

0:04:24 > 0:04:28Then they'll need to carry the toy back across the water, over the

0:04:28 > 0:04:33hurdles, through the tunnel and back past the finish line. The dog that

0:04:33 > 0:04:37completes the course in the fastest time will be the winner.

0:04:37 > 0:04:40I think it sounds quite challenging. I don't think Pudsey would be able to

0:04:40 > 0:04:43do it. I reckon, by the end of it, your dogs will be flying round this

0:04:43 > 0:04:48- lake.- OK. First step, what I want you to do, is lots and lots of

0:04:48 > 0:04:51retrieves, lots and lots of play with your dog's favourite toy at the

0:04:51 > 0:04:54bank. Then put the toy on the other side of the bank so they have to

0:04:54 > 0:04:57- swim out to get the toy and bring it back. Does that make sense?- Yup.- And

0:04:57 > 0:05:01- I'll catch you later, OK?- Yup. - Fantastic. Come on, Puds! Let's go!

0:05:01 > 0:05:04- Bye!- See you! Bye-bye!- Bye.

0:05:04 > 0:05:09I felt quite excited when we got the trick because it's something new and

0:05:09 > 0:05:12I think Chester will do quite well at it.

0:05:12 > 0:05:14Fern's feeling positive,

0:05:14 > 0:05:19- but let's see how Chester gets on. - Good boy.- Chester!- Yes. Loads of

0:05:19 > 0:05:22- praise for that.- Good boy.- Well done. - Good boy.- So do you think Chester

0:05:22 > 0:05:24- will go into the water now?- Yeah.

0:05:24 > 0:05:27- OK?- I think he might, Ashleigh. - Chester! Get it.

0:05:28 > 0:05:32- Check out Chester's doggy paddle! Pretty impressive stuff.- Good boy.

0:05:32 > 0:05:34- Good boy.- Perfect. Look at that!

0:05:34 > 0:05:37- Good boy. Loads of praise.- Good boy. - That is...

0:05:37 > 0:05:39Argh!

0:05:39 > 0:05:44- Good boy.- Great start there from Fern and Chester. Looks like Thomas

0:05:44 > 0:05:47- and Barry are ready to get stuck in. - So this time, I want you to just drop

0:05:47 > 0:05:51it over here, just slightly in the bank, just so he steps in there and

0:05:51 > 0:05:55- gets his feet a little bit wet. - You'll go find it? Find it. Get it.

0:05:55 > 0:05:57- Good boy.- Yeah, clever lad!- Well done.- Come on, then. Bring it back.

0:05:57 > 0:06:02- Loads of praise.- Baz, come on, then! Where you going? Come here.

0:06:02 > 0:06:05- Come on, Bazzy!- Maybe give him a treat when he comes back.- Oi!

0:06:05 > 0:06:06HE WHISTLES

0:06:06 > 0:06:09- Baz!- Oh, he's found another one! - I think Barry's more interested in

0:06:09 > 0:06:12- exploring than fetching.- Come on, Baz. Bring it back.- Good.

0:06:12 > 0:06:17My training plan is to keep trying and not get wound up when

0:06:17 > 0:06:21Barry doesn't do it right, how I want him to do it the first time.

0:06:21 > 0:06:25Finally, James and Gem get their chance to make a splash.

0:06:25 > 0:06:28- OK. So just throw it in there. - Gem, fetch.

0:06:29 > 0:06:33- Good girl. Loads of praise for that. Yes.- Gem, fetch.- Good girl.

0:06:34 > 0:06:37- Yeah, she likes splashing. - She likes splashing!

0:06:37 > 0:06:42- Not swimming, just splashing!- Gem is certainly making a splash, but

0:06:42 > 0:06:46- probably not in the way James was hoping.- Yeah, I know. She does that

0:06:46 > 0:06:48for hours sometimes. Gem!

0:06:48 > 0:06:52'She didn't fetch the ball in the water. That was a bit annoying,'

0:06:52 > 0:06:54but I reckon it's because, like, when she opens her mouth,

0:06:54 > 0:06:57all the water goes in so she won't do it.

0:06:57 > 0:07:01Now, with this trick, momentum is the key, and you want to keep sending the

0:07:01 > 0:07:05dogs back in the water, over and over again until it becomes second nature

0:07:05 > 0:07:09to them. And then they don't overthink it. I want you to try and

0:07:09 > 0:07:13see how far you can throw your ball and the dogs go now. Does that sound

0:07:13 > 0:07:17- good?- Yup.- I will be back soon. Good luck. Bye!- Bye!

0:07:29 > 0:07:32It's definitely no secret that both me and Pudsey love to show off our

0:07:32 > 0:07:34dance moves. Right?

0:07:35 > 0:07:39Good boy. And it looks like we're not the only ones. Check out these dogs

0:07:39 > 0:07:41that are throwing some serious shapes.

0:07:45 > 0:07:49When it comes to dancing, dogs just can't help themselves. Here's a

0:07:49 > 0:07:51collie doing some body popping.

0:07:53 > 0:07:56While this bulldog is just feeling the groove.

0:07:56 > 0:07:57Oh, yeah!

0:07:58 > 0:08:02Jiving is very popular in the dog world, and this dog is showing us

0:08:02 > 0:08:04his version of the twist.

0:08:08 > 0:08:12I think they call this the Sheltie Shuffle.

0:08:12 > 0:08:17You need a partner for this dance and a bath straight after.

0:08:17 > 0:08:20Ooh! Now, I like a bit of salsa, and this dog

0:08:20 > 0:08:24spiced it up by holding a toy in his mouth at the same time. Nice!

0:08:27 > 0:08:30It takes a cool dog to pull off breakdancing moves like these...

0:08:33 > 0:08:37..but a supercool dog to just chill out and enjoy the beats. Mm!

0:08:40 > 0:08:43Still to come: We've got husky racing from the Cairngorms in the

0:08:43 > 0:08:45Scottish Highlands.

0:08:45 > 0:08:49And which one of our teams will shake off the opposition to reach

0:08:49 > 0:08:50the semi-finals?

0:08:54 > 0:08:57Chester, come on, then. You walk round. I'll try and distract him.

0:08:57 > 0:09:01Ashleigh is back at the lake to help the teams with their training.

0:09:01 > 0:09:02Good boy.

0:09:02 > 0:09:07Can Chester swim all the way to the other side? It looks really far!

0:09:07 > 0:09:11- Chester!- Loads and loads of calling. - Chester, come on! Good boy. Come on.

0:09:11 > 0:09:14- Come on, Chester!- Loads of praise. - Good boy. Come on.- Loads of praise.

0:09:14 > 0:09:19- Good boy. Come on.- Good boy.- That dog is a lean, mean, swimming

0:09:19 > 0:09:23- machine! Look at him go!- Yeah! Loads of praise. Play with him!

0:09:23 > 0:09:27- Play with him!- Good boy.- That was brilliant.- Good boy.- Well done.

0:09:27 > 0:09:29'The best bit about my training session today was'

0:09:29 > 0:09:34working with Ashleigh and when Chester did everything right.

0:09:34 > 0:09:38- Right. Loud! Really excited! - Right, OK.- Like I said, it doesn't

0:09:38 > 0:09:40matter if you look stupid, OK?

0:09:40 > 0:09:44James has got a hard act to follow. And has Gem overcome her splashing?

0:09:44 > 0:09:48- Come on, Gem! Gem, here! Come on, Gem!- Good girl.- Come on, Gem!

0:09:48 > 0:09:51- Encouragement!- Looks like she has. - Loads of praise.- Come on, Gem!

0:09:51 > 0:09:54- Come on, Gem! Come on, Gem! - But can Gem make it all the way

0:09:54 > 0:09:58- to the other side?- Good girl, Gem! Good girl!- Yeah, let her have the

0:09:58 > 0:10:02- ball. Let her have the ball.- Well done!- Good girl. Loads of praise.

0:10:02 > 0:10:04- Gem, what's this?- Be stupid!

0:10:04 > 0:10:07She doesn't seem too interested in that ball, though.

0:10:07 > 0:10:11'The training went good because Gem actually started swimming.'

0:10:11 > 0:10:15Cos she did it in the end, but she wouldn't do it at the start.

0:10:16 > 0:10:20With both Chester and Gem excelling in the water, the pressure is on for

0:10:20 > 0:10:25- Barry.- I reckon you've got a good throwing arm.- Yes.- So with Barry, do

0:10:25 > 0:10:28you think you could throw your tennis ball all the way to the other side of

0:10:28 > 0:10:32- the bank?- Probably.- Yeah? Shall we give it a go? OK.- You ready, Bazzy?

0:10:34 > 0:10:37- Find it.- That went pretty far.- Go find it.- No need for Thomas to go

0:10:37 > 0:10:41over to the other side of the bank. But where on earth did that ball go?

0:10:41 > 0:10:46Even Barry can't find it! But he's found another one. Not the right

0:10:46 > 0:10:48one, though, Barry.

0:10:48 > 0:10:49Bazzy, come here.

0:10:49 > 0:10:52'The main thing Barry has been struggling with is'

0:10:52 > 0:10:56concentration and tiredness cos he gets tired after a while and then

0:10:56 > 0:10:59he loses concentration and he won't listen to me properly.

0:10:59 > 0:11:02You should be so, so proud of your dogs, OK?

0:11:02 > 0:11:03They've made real progress today

0:11:03 > 0:11:07which is absolutely perfect. I'm going to leave you to it and I'm

0:11:07 > 0:11:10going to see you back tomorrow, but good luck and a big well done for

0:11:10 > 0:11:13- today, OK? Bye!- Bye!

0:11:14 > 0:11:18Ohh! Nothing nicer than lovely, soggy dogs.

0:11:18 > 0:11:21Barry, Gem and Chester are all really clever breeds.

0:11:21 > 0:11:23But in many ways, they couldn't be more

0:11:23 > 0:11:25different. Let's find out what makes them tick.

0:11:27 > 0:11:31Gem is a four-year-old Border Collie and was given her name by James, who

0:11:31 > 0:11:34says she's priceless. Originally bred for sheep herding, Border

0:11:34 > 0:11:39Collies are often very intelligent dogs and love a good challenge. So

0:11:39 > 0:11:43this one should be right up Gem's street. Gem loves toys but she also

0:11:43 > 0:11:46loves splashing, as we know. But which will she choose at Showtime?

0:11:47 > 0:11:51This is Chester and he's a Springer Spaniel who got his name because of

0:11:51 > 0:11:55his chestnut eyes. Springer Spaniels are usually

0:11:55 > 0:11:59full of beans and love to play, and Chester's no exception.

0:11:59 > 0:12:01He also loves cuddles and will do

0:12:01 > 0:12:05anything for a treat. Chester loves the water and loves retrieving

0:12:05 > 0:12:08tennis balls, which is exactly what's needed for this challenge.

0:12:08 > 0:12:12Now, Barry is also a Springer Spaniel and, according to Thomas, he

0:12:12 > 0:12:17has a very wriggly bottom. Barry loves jumping. He once attempted a

0:12:17 > 0:12:21huge horse jump and landed nose first on the other side! Barry also

0:12:21 > 0:12:26loves to fetch and he can retrieve an egg without breaking it. So with

0:12:26 > 0:12:29jumping and fetching skills like that, he might do pretty well in

0:12:29 > 0:12:30this challenge.

0:12:34 > 0:12:38It's day two at the lake, and Ashleigh's training with the teams.

0:12:38 > 0:12:42- Steve arrives to take them through the next steps.- Very good with

0:12:42 > 0:12:45Chester. Look at you four relaxing down by the lake! How's it going?

0:12:45 > 0:12:49It's going good. Well, Steve, I think we should leave this for the time

0:12:49 > 0:12:52being and we should move on to the tunnel and the hurdles.

0:12:52 > 0:12:53OK. Let's go. Come on.

0:12:58 > 0:13:04- Right. OK. So, here's the boss. Who's done hurdles before?- Me.- Yeah?

0:13:04 > 0:13:08- A bit.- OK. Done a little bit. OK. Over the jump, reinforcement.

0:13:08 > 0:13:11Over that jump leads to something good every time from you guys, OK?

0:13:11 > 0:13:14As you mature through and they're comfortable and happy with the

0:13:14 > 0:13:19hurdles, what I'd really like you to do is to go over the third hurdle,

0:13:19 > 0:13:22swim across, grab the toy, come back, big fuss.

0:13:22 > 0:13:25Another element we need to bolt on is the actual tunnel,

0:13:25 > 0:13:27which is quite simple to do. Any

0:13:27 > 0:13:30questions, any problems, speak to Ashleigh. She's a pro. She'll help

0:13:30 > 0:13:35- you through it. All right, guys? Adios!- Bye!- Bye!- Don't look so

0:13:35 > 0:13:40- worried, OK? It's going to be fine. - Gem's not had much luck fetching the

0:13:40 > 0:13:43toy, but will James's plan of changing it to a Frisbee help?

0:13:43 > 0:13:46Two hurdles. Frisbee.

0:13:46 > 0:13:49- Up.- Yeah!- Good girl.- Praise, praise, praise, praise!- Good girl. Fetch.

0:13:49 > 0:13:54- Fetch it.- Good girl.- Good girl. - Praise. Yay! Well done. Good girl.

0:13:54 > 0:13:58Great jump there from Gem and in slow mo, too. Just because we can!

0:14:00 > 0:14:04- Time for Thomas and Barry to tackle those hurdles.- Wait.- We're going to

0:14:04 > 0:14:07do the one jump, then you're going to throw your ball into the water and

0:14:07 > 0:14:11- call him back, OK?- Go on over. Barry, right. Go and get it. Go and

0:14:11 > 0:14:15- find it, Baz.- Good. - Good boy. Clever lad!

0:14:15 > 0:14:17Come in, Bazzy! Come!

0:14:17 > 0:14:20Ooh, I love a good slow-mo shot! And that's good progress from Barry.

0:14:20 > 0:14:24- Chester, sit.- Looks like Fern and Chester are going for two hurdles.

0:14:25 > 0:14:30- Chester, jump. Sit.- Good boy.- Wait. Chester, jump.- Good. Throw it.

0:14:30 > 0:14:32- Good boy.- Good boy. Well done.

0:14:32 > 0:14:35You just stopping him in the middle of that is just steadying himself

0:14:35 > 0:14:39down. So by the end of it, he will start to get the idea that he's got

0:14:39 > 0:14:44to do all three before he can get that lake, OK? Perfect. Well done.

0:14:44 > 0:14:48A different tactic there from Fern. Let's hope it works for Showtime.

0:14:49 > 0:14:52- Now it's time to train for the tunnel part of the challenge.- So

0:14:52 > 0:14:57Fern and Chester, you are first. So bring Chester over here, then. Hey,

0:14:57 > 0:15:01- Chest. So I will hold Chester this end.- Chester's been top of the class

0:15:01 > 0:15:05- up to now. Can he make it full marks with the tunnel?- Get it.- Good lad.

0:15:05 > 0:15:08- Good boy.- Loads of praise.- Good boy. - Well done. That's perfect.- Good boy.

0:15:08 > 0:15:10Good boy.

0:15:10 > 0:15:13James is sticking to the trusted Frisbee to entice Gem. It worked for

0:15:13 > 0:15:19- the hurdles. Will it work here? - Try it again.- Right, Gem.

0:15:19 > 0:15:21Oh, Gem! Not ON it, through it!

0:15:21 > 0:15:24- Come on, Gem. Gem, fetch it. Fetch.- Good.- Fetch it,

0:15:24 > 0:15:27- Gem.- Good girl. Play with her, play with her!- Good girl.- Good girl. Loads

0:15:27 > 0:15:30- of praise. Yay! Good girlie!- Good girl, Gem.- She obviously likes a bit

0:15:30 > 0:15:33of tug-of-war, so you need to start doing that more with her.

0:15:34 > 0:15:38Finally, it's Barry's turn. He did well for the hurdles. Will he focus

0:15:38 > 0:15:43- for the tunnel?- Find it, Bazzy. Find it.- Yes! Perfect. Well done.- No.

0:15:43 > 0:15:47Barry! This is not the time to copy Gem! He really does need to get his

0:15:47 > 0:15:49concentration back before Showtime.

0:15:51 > 0:15:54So you have quite a few things to work on, but I'm sure you will get

0:15:54 > 0:15:57there. I'm going to leave you to it now and I will see you back here for

0:15:57 > 0:16:03- Showtime in a couple of days. And I can't wait, OK? Bye!- Bye!

0:16:03 > 0:16:07You may not have a lake in your garden, but YOU can still teach your

0:16:07 > 0:16:11dog this trick by taking your hurdles, tunnel and an adult to a

0:16:11 > 0:16:13place where you usually take your dog to swim.

0:16:14 > 0:16:19Here are five steps to teaching your dog how to learn this stunt. Step

0:16:19 > 0:16:23one: First, get your dog used to swimming a short stretch of water to

0:16:23 > 0:16:24fetch a toy.

0:16:25 > 0:16:30Step two: Start introducing the hurdles gradually until your dog is

0:16:30 > 0:16:31jumping all three.

0:16:32 > 0:16:36Step three: Get your dog to start jumping the hurdles and into the

0:16:36 > 0:16:37water to fetch a toy.

0:16:39 > 0:16:43Step four: Introduce going through the tunnel to fetch a toy.

0:16:45 > 0:16:49Step five: Put it all together and practise until your dog is an

0:16:49 > 0:16:50awesome assault course pro!

0:16:53 > 0:16:58My training plan is probably to keep working on the hurdles so that he

0:16:58 > 0:17:01doesn't miss any and just keep getting him

0:17:01 > 0:17:03to go through the tunnel.

0:17:03 > 0:17:08I'm feeling pretty confident about Showtime because Gem's learnt stuff

0:17:08 > 0:17:10really quickly and she's really good.

0:17:12 > 0:17:16I'm happy that Barry will do it if I ask him to,

0:17:16 > 0:17:18but it's whether I'll be asked to combine it all

0:17:18 > 0:17:20to get it all to work at the same time.

0:17:25 > 0:17:28Today, we're going to be showing you how to teach your dog to place their

0:17:28 > 0:17:32paws on a horizontal stick. You ready, Puds? To start off with,

0:17:32 > 0:17:36you're going to place your dog in front of a hurdle and you're going to

0:17:36 > 0:17:39ask for their paw. You might have to start using your hand. Pudsey,

0:17:39 > 0:17:45right. Good boy. And then slowly, bring your hand away. Good boy. So

0:17:45 > 0:17:49his paws are resting on the pole. And when they know one paw, then you're

0:17:49 > 0:17:51going to ask for your second paw. Left.

0:17:53 > 0:17:58Good boy. Well done. Right, ready? After that... Sit. ..you can start

0:17:58 > 0:18:01bringing your pole away from the support like so.

0:18:01 > 0:18:03Right. Left.

0:18:03 > 0:18:07Good boy. Well done. Then, you can start bringing in your command. Pole.

0:18:08 > 0:18:14Good boy. Clever lad. And the very last step is finally bringing it away

0:18:14 > 0:18:18from the support. You ready? Come here, then. Come here. Come here.

0:18:18 > 0:18:19Ready?

0:18:19 > 0:18:25Sit. Pole. There we go. Good boy. That's good. Well done. Clever.

0:18:31 > 0:18:35Now, Pudsey can do many things, but I'm not sure he'd be up for pulling a

0:18:35 > 0:18:40sledge in the freezing snow. But these dogs absolutely love it. So

0:18:40 > 0:18:42we'll just have to watch them instead.

0:18:47 > 0:18:51Siberian Huskies are sled-pulling experts, but this isn't some Arctic

0:18:51 > 0:18:54adventure. This is the Aviemore Sled Dog Rally in the UK!

0:18:56 > 0:19:00Every year, hundreds of dogs meet here with their mushers.

0:19:00 > 0:19:02That's what you call the person driving the sled.

0:19:02 > 0:19:05They race through the Cairngorms National Park

0:19:05 > 0:19:07in the Scottish highlands.

0:19:07 > 0:19:10They're revved up, they're barking, and it's just the excitement

0:19:10 > 0:19:14of wanting to go and run and do what they do best.

0:19:14 > 0:19:17The 2013 fastest team was made up of four dogs,

0:19:17 > 0:19:21which ran the four-mile race in just over 13 minutes!

0:19:21 > 0:19:23Teams are made up of two to eight dogs

0:19:23 > 0:19:27and it's not just Siberian Huskies that take part in the race.

0:19:27 > 0:19:29Alaskan Malamutes, Samoyed,

0:19:29 > 0:19:32and Canadian Eskimo Dogs also like to get involved.

0:19:32 > 0:19:35Hey! That doesn't mean just any dog can take part though!

0:19:35 > 0:19:38Oh, all right. Only on the practice run then.

0:19:38 > 0:19:40# Who let the dogs out? #

0:19:42 > 0:19:46Three days of intensive training is now over.

0:19:46 > 0:19:49And it's time for our three teams to put all that they've learnt

0:19:49 > 0:19:52to the test as they compete for a place in the semifinals.

0:19:52 > 0:19:53HEARTBEATS POUND

0:19:57 > 0:20:01Teams have trained at all challenge elements - swim, hurdles and tunnel.

0:20:01 > 0:20:04Now can they perform them all together on the course?

0:20:06 > 0:20:08I'm very nervous about Showtime today,

0:20:08 > 0:20:12'but there's a tiny little bit of confidence that Barry can do it,

0:20:12 > 0:20:14'but it's how cold the water is.'

0:20:14 > 0:20:16It's the bit that's making me nervous.

0:20:16 > 0:20:18Who will struggle to keep their head above water?

0:20:18 > 0:20:20Chester, what's that? Go on!

0:20:20 > 0:20:24'I'm fairly confident that I can make it to the semifinal,'

0:20:24 > 0:20:28but it just depends cos the other two boys are good.

0:20:28 > 0:20:31And who would DIVE straight into the semifinal?

0:20:31 > 0:20:34'I'm feeling nervous about Showtime because'

0:20:34 > 0:20:36I really want to make it through to the semifinal.

0:20:38 > 0:20:41It's time to find out.

0:20:41 > 0:20:43# Who let the dogs out? #

0:20:43 > 0:20:45DOGS BARK

0:20:45 > 0:20:48It's Showtime and we are already down here at the lake.

0:20:48 > 0:20:50Now, I'm going to quickly take you through

0:20:50 > 0:20:52our lovely obstacle course here.

0:20:52 > 0:20:55So, we're going to start right over there, through our tunnel,

0:20:55 > 0:20:57over the three hurdles, across the lake,

0:20:57 > 0:21:00the dog will then pick their ball or toy up,

0:21:00 > 0:21:02bring it across the lake, back over the three hurdles

0:21:02 > 0:21:06and then into the tunnel and across that finish line.

0:21:06 > 0:21:09The winner will obviously be the dog with the fastest time.

0:21:10 > 0:21:13Ashleigh and Steve will be watching very closely

0:21:13 > 0:21:15and if there are any missed obstacles, or

0:21:15 > 0:21:19if the toy is not retrieved, those mistakes will mean time penalties.

0:21:22 > 0:21:25First up, we have Thomas and Barry.

0:21:26 > 0:21:27Wait.

0:21:27 > 0:21:28It's crunch-time for Barry.

0:21:28 > 0:21:30He's struggled with his concentration.

0:21:30 > 0:21:34Will he keep his focus today when he needs it the most?

0:21:34 > 0:21:35WAIT!

0:21:35 > 0:21:37Wait! 'I'm not very confident that

0:21:37 > 0:21:39'I can make it through to the semifinal,'

0:21:39 > 0:21:43but there's still that little bit of confidence

0:21:43 > 0:21:45that Barry is giving me the signals he's ready to go.

0:21:45 > 0:21:46WAIT!

0:21:46 > 0:21:50Ashleigh and Steve are ready to spot any penalties as Barry goes for it.

0:21:50 > 0:21:51Over! Over! Over!

0:21:51 > 0:21:55- Go right!- Perfect start. No missed obstacles.

0:21:55 > 0:21:57- Good lad!- Straight in! No messing there.

0:21:57 > 0:21:59Will he make it all the way across?

0:22:02 > 0:22:04- Good boy, find it. - Yes! He's made it!

0:22:04 > 0:22:05Find it!

0:22:05 > 0:22:06HE BLOWS WHISTLE

0:22:07 > 0:22:09Come in.

0:22:09 > 0:22:13Thomas is using a whistle to keep Barry's attention. Clever!

0:22:13 > 0:22:14Good boy. Come on.

0:22:14 > 0:22:16Get ready, Barry. Come here.

0:22:16 > 0:22:18Bring it up, up.

0:22:18 > 0:22:20Go and get over, over.

0:22:20 > 0:22:23- No, Barry, come back.- Oh, no! It was all going swimmingly well.

0:22:23 > 0:22:26He's jumped two hurdles, but dropped the ball.

0:22:26 > 0:22:29- Barry, find it. - Now he's getting distracted.

0:22:29 > 0:22:32- Find it and get over. - Yes, he's got it back.

0:22:32 > 0:22:35Thomas is keeping his cool and staying calm.

0:22:35 > 0:22:37The clock is ticking. Come on, Barry!

0:22:37 > 0:22:41- The tunnel. - Barry finishes with a clear run...

0:22:41 > 0:22:42and no time penalties.

0:22:45 > 0:22:48Barry pulled it out of the bag to swim across the lake and retrieve

0:22:48 > 0:22:53the ball, but wasted time towards the end and every second is crucial.

0:22:53 > 0:22:54Have they done enough?

0:22:56 > 0:22:58Next it's James and Gem.

0:23:00 > 0:23:03It wasn't the best start for Gem, but she overcame the splashing.

0:23:03 > 0:23:07Now will she retrieve her toy from across the bank?

0:23:07 > 0:23:08Stay.

0:23:09 > 0:23:12The worst thing that could happen in Showtime is

0:23:12 > 0:23:15Gem swimming down the lake and not going to the other side.

0:23:16 > 0:23:19Well, James, there are quite a few distractions.

0:23:19 > 0:23:21Stay!

0:23:21 > 0:23:22Go, dog!

0:23:22 > 0:23:24And she's off!

0:23:24 > 0:23:25Two hurdles missed.

0:23:25 > 0:23:29That'll be a 20-second time penalty added to their overall time.

0:23:30 > 0:23:34A different tactic from James here - running to the other side.

0:23:34 > 0:23:37A little bit of biting, but she's swimming well.

0:23:37 > 0:23:38Now will she fetch the toy?

0:23:38 > 0:23:40Fetch it!

0:23:42 > 0:23:47- And it's changed again to a red ball.- That's it - in, in, in!

0:23:47 > 0:23:49That'll mean a 60-second time penalty.

0:23:49 > 0:23:53James has gone for speed rather than wasting any more time on the toy.

0:23:54 > 0:23:57Gem is storming across the lake!

0:23:57 > 0:23:59What's this, Gem?

0:23:59 > 0:24:01What's this?

0:24:01 > 0:24:03Jump up here. Jump over this. Jump up.

0:24:03 > 0:24:06Ten second time penalty there for that first hurdle,

0:24:06 > 0:24:09- but Gem powers to the finish. - Good girl.

0:24:09 > 0:24:10Jump! Good girl.

0:24:12 > 0:24:14Gem took to that course with some speed,

0:24:14 > 0:24:19but did earn time penalties, missing hurdles and not retrieving the ball.

0:24:19 > 0:24:22Was she fast enough? Hmm!

0:24:22 > 0:24:24Last but not least, it's Ferne and Chester.

0:24:26 > 0:24:28This team have been unstoppable in training.

0:24:29 > 0:24:31Can they shine one more time?

0:24:31 > 0:24:32Wait.

0:24:32 > 0:24:34'I have some tactics,'

0:24:34 > 0:24:37just, if I miss a hurdle with Chester,

0:24:37 > 0:24:40just to carry on rather than getting annoyed with him.

0:24:40 > 0:24:41Chester...

0:24:41 > 0:24:44Chester, come through. Chester...

0:24:44 > 0:24:45Chester, come...!

0:24:45 > 0:24:47Not the best start at all.

0:24:47 > 0:24:49He's missed all the obstacles.

0:24:49 > 0:24:52Added together, that's a 40-second time penalty.

0:24:52 > 0:24:54And Ferne's decided to run to the other bank too,

0:24:54 > 0:24:56but she's making Chester wait.

0:24:56 > 0:24:58Is that a good use of precious time?

0:24:58 > 0:24:59SHE BLOWS WHISTLE

0:25:01 > 0:25:03- Chester, come on, good boy. - Look at him power over!

0:25:03 > 0:25:06He's as fast as Flipper the dolphin!

0:25:06 > 0:25:07That's a good boy.

0:25:07 > 0:25:11Come on, good boy. Chester, get it. Chester, get it. Chester, go on!

0:25:11 > 0:25:13- Chester... - And no messing with the toy.

0:25:14 > 0:25:17Again, Chester is following Ferne's orders and waiting.

0:25:17 > 0:25:21- Is this a good tactic? - Come on, Chester, come on. Good boy.

0:25:21 > 0:25:22SHE BLOWS WHISTLE

0:25:22 > 0:25:23Good boy!

0:25:23 > 0:25:26- Come on. - He's making light work of that lake.

0:25:26 > 0:25:28Good boy, Chester, come on. Chester, go!

0:25:28 > 0:25:31Chester, come! Chester...

0:25:31 > 0:25:33Chester, wait! Chester...!

0:25:33 > 0:25:37- Chester!- Ouch. No hurdles means more penalties.- Good boy. Good boy.

0:25:39 > 0:25:42Ferne stuck to her tactics of carrying on for missed

0:25:42 > 0:25:47obstacles, but did making Chester wait cost valuable time?

0:25:47 > 0:25:49It is SO tense!

0:25:49 > 0:25:51It's time to find out our winner.

0:25:51 > 0:25:52# Who let the dogs out? #

0:25:52 > 0:25:53DOGS BARK

0:25:55 > 0:25:58So...it's the time you've all been waiting for.

0:25:59 > 0:26:04I can now reveal that the winner of today's challenge with

0:26:25 > 0:26:29with an impressive one minute, 13 seconds.

0:26:32 > 0:26:35so you should be very proud. How do you feel, Thomas?

0:26:35 > 0:26:37- Good, yeah, I'm really happy. - Are you proud of Barry?- Yeah.

0:27:21 > 0:27:23I am extremely proud of Barry.

0:27:23 > 0:27:26I don't think he could have done any better.

0:27:26 > 0:27:29I'm a bit disappointed leaving, but it's been a great experience.

0:27:29 > 0:27:31Thomas deserved it.

0:27:31 > 0:27:33I'm feeling pretty disappointed about leaving the Dog House,

0:27:33 > 0:27:38cos I liked it here and this feels good to be learning 24/7.

0:27:42 > 0:27:47Well, Puds, that was an amazing day and we even managed to stay dry.

0:27:47 > 0:27:50I reckon we should capture this moment.
