0:06:24 > 0:06:26- A lot of small children get cancer - sometimes.

0:06:27 > 0:06:29- There are a lot of different kinds - of cancer too.

0:06:30 > 0:06:33- Alaw had the kind of cancer - that affects the blood.

0:06:34 > 0:06:35- Here's Alaw.

0:06:35 > 0:06:40- The cancer starts in bone marrow, - right in the middle.

0:06:41 > 0:06:44- It's where blood cells - are produced.

0:06:44 > 0:06:50- In our blood, we have white cells, - they fight colds and infections.

0:06:52 > 0:06:55- We also have red cells which carry - oxygen all around the body.

0:06:56 > 0:06:58- There are cells called platelets...

0:06:58 > 0:07:01- ..which are like internal plasters - to stop us bleeding.

0:07:01 > 0:07:06- If you have cancer in your blood, - the white cells suffer the most.

0:07:07 > 0:07:10- Instead of producing white cells - like we saw earlier on...

0:07:11 > 0:07:15- ..we get these cells, cancer cells, - which go around the body.

0:07:15 > 0:07:17- They pretend - to be white blood cells.

0:07:18 > 0:07:21- They can't work the same way - as white blood cells.

0:07:21 > 0:07:24- They're bad cells which can't fight - colds and infections.

0:07:24 > 0:07:27- You get very ill - if you catch a cold...

0:07:27 > 0:07:32- ..or if bacteria or viruses - get into the body.

0:07:32 > 0:07:35- The cancer cells - can't fight them properly...

0:07:35 > 0:07:38- ..like healthy - white blood cells would.

0:07:38 > 0:07:41- The cold or virus - goes around the body...

0:07:41 > 0:07:45- ..and makes you feel quite ill - if you have cancer.

0:07:46 > 0:07:49- What we have to do - is give a special treatment....

0:07:50 > 0:07:52- .like the one Alaw was given.

0:07:53 > 0:07:56- It gets rid of the cancer cells.

0:07:56 > 0:08:00- That means the white cells - come back.

0:08:00 > 0:08:03- The white cells, the red cells...

0:08:03 > 0:08:06- ..and the platelets - travel around the body...

0:08:06 > 0:08:09- ..making everyone healthy again.

0:08:10 > 0:08:15- So every now and then, Alaw has to - come in and we take a little blood.

0:08:16 > 0:08:19- We look for the healthy cells - and make sure they are all there.

0:08:19 > 0:08:23- We also make sure that there are - none of these bad cells left.

0:08:24 > 0:08:26- And make sure - we got rid of them all.

0:08:28 > 0:08:30- Thank you, Doctor Mair.

0:08:30 > 0:08:32- Thank you, Doctor Mair.- - You're welcome.
