0:00:13 > 0:00:19This is a story about one of nature's top predators, the wolf,
0:00:19 > 0:00:22and how it uses stamina, intelligence
0:00:22 > 0:00:24and tenacity to survive.
0:00:24 > 0:00:26The wolf.
0:00:27 > 0:00:29Each wolf has a mental map,
0:00:29 > 0:00:33a picture library showing them pictures
0:00:33 > 0:00:35of the kind of prey that they need to eat.
0:00:35 > 0:00:40Big-horned sheep are weird fuckers, but tasty.
0:00:42 > 0:00:44Moose are solitary,
0:00:44 > 0:00:47but stink to high heaven - a risky target.
0:00:47 > 0:00:50Today, they are hunting for elk
0:00:50 > 0:00:52and after hours of waiting,
0:00:52 > 0:00:55the alpha male makes his move.
0:00:55 > 0:00:58After spotting nothing obviously soppy,
0:00:58 > 0:01:01it's time to get closer to take a look.
0:01:02 > 0:01:04Look at this keen-eyed fucker.
0:01:07 > 0:01:10They make no attempt to hide as they approach.
0:01:12 > 0:01:15To be honest, they couldn't give a flying fuck.
0:01:16 > 0:01:19The wolves split up and assess the herd.
0:01:19 > 0:01:21Where are the weak ones?
0:01:21 > 0:01:23Where are the shit-brained ones?
0:01:23 > 0:01:26Where are the yellow-bellied bell-ends?
0:01:28 > 0:01:32Many liken the elk's behaviour to be that of gay.
0:01:34 > 0:01:36- Camel. - "Hello."
0:01:37 > 0:01:39Suddenly, one of the young male wolves
0:01:39 > 0:01:43has seen a female and a calf on her own.
0:01:43 > 0:01:45He runs to check them out.
0:01:46 > 0:01:48But she's a feisty tart, though.
0:01:50 > 0:01:52This mother has got attitude,
0:01:52 > 0:01:54buckets full of it.
0:01:54 > 0:01:58The wolf can go and fuck himself, as far as she's concerned.
0:01:58 > 0:02:00"Fuck off!" she says, and away they go.
0:02:01 > 0:02:05The alpha female has picked out a nervous calf,
0:02:05 > 0:02:09and could be dyslexic, it's got wondering brain.
0:02:10 > 0:02:14The elk are furious and therefore glow red.
0:02:14 > 0:02:18Their long legs allow them to run easily on the snow.
0:02:21 > 0:02:23For the wolf, though,
0:02:23 > 0:02:25it's a real shit-sack, sapping their energy.
0:02:25 > 0:02:27That's 1-0 to the elk.
0:02:27 > 0:02:31But hold on, this light, young female wolf
0:02:31 > 0:02:33has given chase on higher ground
0:02:33 > 0:02:36where the snow is not so deep.
0:02:36 > 0:02:38The others take this example on board
0:02:38 > 0:02:40and accelerate quickly
0:02:40 > 0:02:43to 40 miles per wolf-hour!
0:02:45 > 0:02:48The wolves have to split this fucking herd up.
0:02:48 > 0:02:50Invisible to the elk,
0:02:50 > 0:02:52they actually run through the pack's territorial barrier.
0:02:54 > 0:02:56Suddenly, the alpha female spots something
0:02:56 > 0:02:59and locks onto a young calf.
0:02:59 > 0:03:01The elk looks young and fit,
0:03:01 > 0:03:04so what is it she can see that we can't?
0:03:07 > 0:03:10It is clear the elk is lame,
0:03:10 > 0:03:12it's as crippled as shit.
0:03:12 > 0:03:15Its back knee is shot to fuck.
0:03:15 > 0:03:17It's a kind of arthritis,
0:03:17 > 0:03:21but in an elk, not in a human being.
0:03:21 > 0:03:22It was probably caused
0:03:22 > 0:03:25when she was fighting a black elk, in a black area.
0:03:27 > 0:03:29But the female now is locked on,
0:03:29 > 0:03:34there is nowhere for the elk to hide with his SHITTY LEG!
0:03:34 > 0:03:36He tries to blame it on the other members of the herd,
0:03:36 > 0:03:39but the wolves are having none of it.
0:03:39 > 0:03:42They hunt, they search, they cry,
0:03:42 > 0:03:45they bring that fucker down.
0:03:46 > 0:03:50Ah, I hope you enjoyed that documentary.
0:03:50 > 0:03:53Since I made that, I've made another one about mice,
0:03:53 > 0:03:57er, which I hope you'll get to see at some point as well.
