:00:03. > :00:10.Good evening. The football fans risking it all for tickets to

:00:10. > :00:16.Swansea's big game. Clamping down on the conmen

:00:16. > :00:26.hounding Shirley and her neighbours. And Donna's rotten experience with

:00:26. > :00:34.

:00:35. > :00:38.Hello and welcome to the programme. Now if you are one of the million

:00:38. > :00:41.people in Wales who own a smartphone like this, keep watching.

:00:41. > :00:45.We will show you how to make sure fraudsters do not get their hands

:00:45. > :00:48.on your personal details. But first, here at the Liberty Stadium in

:00:48. > :00:51.Swansea, the club shop has been a very busy place in the last few

:00:51. > :00:56.weeks, with fans stocking up on scarves and shirts before Sunday's

:00:56. > :01:06.cup final at Wembley. But for some, getting hold of tickets for a sell-

:01:06. > :01:06.

:01:06. > :01:16.out game like this is much harder. There is nothing like a big match

:01:16. > :01:24.

:01:24. > :01:29.day. Well, only if you have got a ticket for this Sunday's game. This

:01:29. > :01:32.is the hottest ticket in town. And these fans are determined to get

:01:32. > :01:42.their hands on one to see Swansea play Bradford in the Capital One

:01:42. > :01:43.

:01:43. > :01:48.Cup final at Wembley. Tell me how precious that ticket is to you?

:01:48. > :01:52.is worth its weight in gold. I have been waiting for this for 47 years.

:01:52. > :01:55.To miss that would be... Well, I wouldn't sell it for the world.

:01:56. > :01:58.For the Cup final the official and legal place for fans to get tickets

:01:58. > :02:01.is from Swansea or Bradford Football Clubs. The problem is,

:02:01. > :02:04.there just are not enough to go around.

:02:04. > :02:08.But some desperate fans are prepared to take big risks to see

:02:08. > :02:10.their heroes in action. Despite being a Swans supporter for 20

:02:10. > :02:16.years, Kevin Hughes from Llandrindod Wells has had no luck

:02:16. > :02:20.getting a ticket. I used to go down there with my dad

:02:20. > :02:24.and we used to go to some of the away games as well and that is

:02:24. > :02:28.where the interest began. But with Swansea's allocation for

:02:28. > :02:35.Sunday all sold out, Kevin is one of many posting online appeals to

:02:35. > :02:38.buy tickets from other fans on the black market. So what are the

:02:38. > :02:44.rules? Well, unlike concerts or other sports tickets, football is a

:02:44. > :02:49.whole different ball game. It is illegal to re-sell match tickets or

:02:49. > :02:52.make them available to others without the organisers' permission.

:02:52. > :02:57.And if you are caught, you face a 5,000 fine and a ban from future

:02:58. > :03:00.matches. The law was put in place so clubs

:03:01. > :03:05.could keep track of who was sitting where and keep rival supporters

:03:05. > :03:08.apart in the wake of the Hillsborough disaster. Leigh Dineen,

:03:08. > :03:13.vice chairman of Swansea City, says it is crucial for clubs to have

:03:13. > :03:16.control of match days. It is all to do with firstly the

:03:16. > :03:19.health and safety issue and making sure we can monitor where the

:03:19. > :03:22.tickets are going, because obviously we need to take the names

:03:22. > :03:26.and addresses of everybody who buys a ticket. Also, we make sure

:03:26. > :03:29.tickets go to the right people, so that the season ticket holders are

:03:29. > :03:34.going to get their first chance and from there on that is where our

:03:34. > :03:37.membership schemes and so on kick But what if you are a fan and do

:03:37. > :03:42.not qualify for tickets for the big games? That's the situation Kevin

:03:42. > :03:47.is in. Two years ago he had a bad experience when he tried to buy a

:03:47. > :03:50.Championship playoff ticket from another fan.

:03:50. > :03:58.I was supposed to meet the seller with the tickets outside Wembley

:03:58. > :04:01.and the tickets failed to turn up. We were stuck outside Wembley.

:04:01. > :04:09.So when the next big game came around, Kevin tried a different

:04:09. > :04:12.tack - a slick-looking website called Online Ticket Express.

:04:12. > :04:18.There were a number of sites offering tickets but it came down

:04:18. > :04:21.to that one appearing to be the most legit and professional site.

:04:21. > :04:27.He paid more than 200 for two tickets, much more than their face

:04:27. > :04:31.value. We paid over the odds but it was a

:04:31. > :04:33.game that we really wanted to get to. Having assured that we had

:04:33. > :04:39.tickets we then went on and booked accommodation and travel

:04:39. > :04:42.arrangements. But the day before the match Online

:04:42. > :04:47.Ticket Express had some devastating news for Kevin - they did not have

:04:47. > :04:50.any tickets to send him and he would not be going to the game.

:04:50. > :04:56.After weeks of chasing, he did get a refund but the company had the

:04:56. > :05:01.cheek to keep a hefty handling fee. So Kevin got some money back but it

:05:01. > :05:03.seems other customers were not quite so lucky.

:05:03. > :05:08.We found hundreds of complaints about this Spanish based firm -

:05:08. > :05:13.from tickets not arriving to being in the wrong section of the ground.

:05:13. > :05:17.And the Premier League is worried too. They gave us a list of

:05:17. > :05:23.unauthorised sites that they are urging fans to avoid. Not

:05:23. > :05:25.surprisingly, Online Ticket Express is on there. We searched all the

:05:25. > :05:31.sites on the Premier League's warning list, and five were

:05:31. > :05:36.advertising tickets for the Swansea Bradford final. But any fans

:05:36. > :05:41.tempted to buy tickets from them will need very deep pockets.

:05:41. > :05:44.So how do these websites work? Most claim to be simply a middle-man.

:05:45. > :05:50.They put buyers in touch with fans who are looking to sell their

:05:50. > :05:53.tickets. And the website charges a fee for introducing them.

:05:53. > :06:00.Any fan in the UK who re-sells their ticket is definitely breaking

:06:00. > :06:06.the law. But for the websites the law is less clear. And, because

:06:06. > :06:09.they are based abroad, it is harder to enforce. So if you do decide to

:06:09. > :06:17.risk buying from an unofficial site, where do you stand if things go

:06:17. > :06:21.wrong? Online Ticket Express has some very interesting small print.

:06:21. > :06:24.Do not expect them to help if you are refused entry or thown out

:06:24. > :06:31.because someone else's name is on your ticket or if your tickets get

:06:31. > :06:36.lost in the post. Even if you do get a ticket, you could find

:06:36. > :06:44.yourself in the middle of the other team's fans - a serious safety risk.

:06:44. > :06:49.Their answer to that? Just don't wear your team's colours. It may

:06:49. > :06:52.sound ridiculous but Leigh Dineen from Swansea City is horrified.

:06:52. > :06:55.Please do not go onto these websites and buy a ticket. You are

:06:55. > :06:59.not guaranteed that the ticket you are getting will actually get you

:06:59. > :07:02.into the ground or actually get you into the part of the ground where

:07:02. > :07:06.you are going to feel safe. But many fans feel they have no

:07:06. > :07:09.option but to buy tickets this way. They shouldn't be doing it, but

:07:09. > :07:13.then there's people there selling them so desperate fans will pay to

:07:13. > :07:17.see their team win. Others told us they want clubs to

:07:17. > :07:21.do more to help fans re-sell tickets without breaking the law.

:07:21. > :07:25.We put that to Leigh Dineen. I think they've got a point and it

:07:25. > :07:28.is something that perhaps we should be looking it. Certainly even on a

:07:28. > :07:32.day-to-day match when someone's got a season ticket and they cannot

:07:32. > :07:36.make the game and they would like to sell the season ticket on. It is

:07:36. > :07:39.something we can look at. But it will not come in time for

:07:39. > :07:44.Sunday's final. And by then, some fans could well be left counting

:07:44. > :07:48.the cost. So what do those unofficial

:07:48. > :07:51.websites have to say? We contacted Online Ticket Express and the four

:07:51. > :07:58.other websites advertising tickets for the Cup final but none of them

:07:58. > :08:02.wanted to talk to us. And if you are a football fan who

:08:02. > :08:12.has had a bad experience with a ticket website, we would love to

:08:12. > :08:13.

:08:13. > :08:16.hear from you. You can call or Still to come - fighting back

:08:16. > :08:22.against doorstep rogues in the Rhondda.

:08:22. > :08:25.And the 1,600 shed which leaked as soon as it rained.

:08:25. > :08:31.Next, Lucy is in Denbighshire, meeting an iPhone owner who is

:08:31. > :08:37.getting nowhere with Apple. It is one of the most recognised

:08:37. > :08:41.and envied logos in the world - an apple with a bite taken out of it.

:08:41. > :08:46.And Apple's iPhone has become the must-have mobile for many.

:08:46. > :08:51.Millions of people love using their iPhone. You can check emails on the

:08:51. > :08:57.go, access your bank accounts, even do the weekly shop online. But one

:08:57. > :09:00.X-Ray viewer has had a rotten experience with Apple. Donna Marie

:09:01. > :09:04.Jones from Denbigh had owned her iPhone 4S for less than a year when

:09:05. > :09:11.it stopped working. But she was confident her 500 phone would be

:09:11. > :09:16.covered by her warranty. Apple told Donna to make the 50-mile trip to

:09:16. > :09:22.their store here in Liverpool, so they could check out her phone. But

:09:22. > :09:26.their verdict was hard to swallow. The guy came over, one of these

:09:26. > :09:29.technicians, took my phone away for two seconds, came back and said it

:09:29. > :09:32.was water-damaged. He put it back together and he said although it

:09:32. > :09:37.was in warranty, because it was water-damaged I'd have to pay to

:09:37. > :09:39.have a new phone. What did you think when they said it was water-

:09:39. > :09:42.damaged? Disgusted at first. I know for a

:09:42. > :09:46.fact it has not been in water. The Apple store insisted Donna's

:09:46. > :09:51.warranty was void. But they gave her another option - to buy a

:09:51. > :09:54.reconditioned phone for 139, which would be just as good as a new one.

:09:54. > :10:00.So Donna gave back her first Apple iPhone and bought a second,

:10:00. > :10:05.refurbished one. But far from being like new, it was more like a half-

:10:05. > :10:10.eaten apple. It wouldn't work, wouldn't come on, wouldn't activate,

:10:10. > :10:14.nothing, wouldn't pick up Wifi. So yet again more phone calls to Apple.

:10:14. > :10:17.And then you had a real shock? When I went to put in my email

:10:17. > :10:21.address, someone else's email address was on there.

:10:21. > :10:25.And as she looked through the phone, she couldn't believe her eyes when

:10:25. > :10:28.she found the previous owner's bank details and his password.

:10:28. > :10:32.I probably could have got into his bank accounts, made transfers,

:10:32. > :10:36.things like that. I could have his emails, have his contacts. It had

:10:36. > :10:40.photos on and stuff as well. Obviously, everything he had backed

:10:40. > :10:42.up to his phone was still there. So in the wrong hands, it could

:10:42. > :10:45.have been very serious? Yes, definitely, but Apple weren't

:10:45. > :10:48.particularly that bothered. They said it couldn't have happened and

:10:48. > :10:51.it hasn't happened. I don't think they believed me at first.

:10:51. > :10:55.Donna contacted the previous owner of her phone to tell him what she'd

:10:55. > :11:00.found. He was going mad. He took the phone

:11:00. > :11:04.into Liverpool two days before they handed me back the same phone.

:11:04. > :11:07.Apple say that when they service a phone all data is erased. But Donna

:11:07. > :11:14.insists the phone she bought from the Liverpool store was full of

:11:14. > :11:18.personal information. And she is now panicking that someone else

:11:18. > :11:21.could could get their hands on her details.

:11:21. > :11:26.Who's to guarantee that my phone that I brought in wasn't handed to

:11:26. > :11:29.someone? I've got things on there I would not like anyone else to look

:11:29. > :11:33.Donna wiped the previous owner's details from the phone she had

:11:34. > :11:39.bought but it was still faulty. After yet more calls to Apple,

:11:39. > :11:44.Donna says they agreed to replace it with a brand new one.

:11:44. > :11:48.They said they'd have to charge 29.99 for delivery. I wasn't happy

:11:48. > :11:51.after everything with the 29.99. So this lady went off and came back

:11:51. > :11:56.later and said they'd waiver that, however they would take bank

:11:56. > :12:00.details in case anything went wrong. Donna returned her second Apple

:12:00. > :12:06.iPhone and Apple gave her a third one. Everything seemed fine until

:12:06. > :12:08.she tried to pay for the weekly shop.

:12:08. > :12:12.My card got declined in the supermarket which was really

:12:12. > :12:15.embarrassing. I thought I'd not long been paid.

:12:15. > :12:22.So Donna called her bank and was furious to learn that, without

:12:22. > :12:27.warning, Apple had put a holding fee of 450 on her account.

:12:27. > :12:28.Because of that my direct debits and standing orders were bouncing.

:12:29. > :12:34.Did you incur charges because of that?

:12:34. > :12:39.Yes, I did - 50. I was fuming. After yet more phone calls, Apple

:12:39. > :12:44.put the 450 back in Donna's account. But phone number three

:12:44. > :12:49.wasn't all it seemed either. Donna says she had been promised a

:12:49. > :12:54.new phone but Apple had sent her another second-hand model. By now,

:12:54. > :12:59.her faith in Apple had crumbled. It's put me out of pocket, it's

:12:59. > :13:05.made me feel stressed. For such a big a company, their customer

:13:05. > :13:09.service is really rubbish. We asked Apple about Donna's

:13:09. > :13:12.problems, but they wouldn't comment on her case. But they have now sent

:13:12. > :13:17.her had a brand new iPhone and given her back the 139 she paid

:13:17. > :13:19.for her refurbished phone. So that's good news.

:13:19. > :13:22.And if you're worried about mobile phone security, keep watching,

:13:23. > :13:28.because later we'll show you how to stop your details falling into the

:13:28. > :13:31.wrong hands. One problem we hear a lot about on

:13:31. > :13:35.X-Ray is unwanted cold callers, who visit streets like these, trying to

:13:35. > :13:38.make a quick buck by selling dodgy driveways or shoddy buidling work.

:13:39. > :13:44.And in some parts of Rhondda Cynon Taff, things have got so bad,

:13:44. > :13:47.they've launched a new scheme to scare away the scammers.

:13:48. > :13:50.This Llantrisant estate is a hotspot for doorstep crime. From

:13:50. > :13:57.rogue repairmen to dodgy double glazing salesmen, many elderly

:13:57. > :14:01.residents have been repeatedly conned into handing over their cash.

:14:01. > :14:05.80-year-old Shirley is one of their victims. She has Alzheimer's and

:14:05. > :14:08.her daughter Rhian knows just how vulnerable that makes her.

:14:08. > :14:11.She'll let anybody over the doorstep. Some gardeners turned up,

:14:11. > :14:18.offered to do some work in the front garden, charged her 350, I

:14:18. > :14:23.think it was. When she didn't have cash or a cheque book at home, they

:14:23. > :14:26.drove her to bank. The whole situation makes me feel pretty

:14:27. > :14:30.anxious, becuase I can make my mum as safe and comfortable as possible

:14:30. > :14:37.in her own home, but I've got no control over who knocks on the door

:14:37. > :14:40.and who she invites over the doorstep.

:14:40. > :14:44.I'm Sergeant Ceri Williams from the neighbourhood policing team.

:14:44. > :14:48.But a change is on its way. Today, it is police who are knocking on

:14:48. > :14:51.doors, telling residents about a new scheme to tackle the problem.

:14:51. > :14:56.This area is one of three in Rhondda Cynon Taff that has been

:14:56. > :14:59.identified as vulnerable in respect of rogue traders and cold callers.

:14:59. > :15:01.We have put a scheme in place in partnership with Rhondda Cynon Taff

:15:02. > :15:04.Trading Standards, whereby the residents put a window sticker in

:15:05. > :15:12.either their window or door and this will then give message that

:15:12. > :15:14.they don't want any cold callers. From March 1st, any traders who

:15:15. > :15:19.ignore those signs are breaking the law and police and trading

:15:19. > :15:23.standards can send rapid response teams to stop them. It can't come

:15:23. > :15:25.soon enough for Rhian and her mum Shirley.

:15:25. > :15:29.I'm sure a couple of the unscrupulous ones will still try

:15:29. > :15:36.their luck but it's going to be a no cold calling zone over a large

:15:36. > :15:46.area. I think neighbours will all be aware. She's going to be safer

:15:46. > :15:50.

:15:50. > :15:53.because there will be less people Now this street in Porth is also

:15:53. > :15:56.part of the cold calling control zone - in fact you might recognise

:15:56. > :15:59.it, we were here just a few months ago, when a rogue driveway company

:15:59. > :16:03.was causing problems. Tim Pocknell is from Rhondda Cynon Taff Trading

:16:03. > :16:05.Standards is with me - hi Tim. This is obviously a big problem around

:16:05. > :16:08.here. Are people being repeatedly targeted here? Yes unfortunately,

:16:08. > :16:15.we find they are. It seems to be a pattern of organised crime from

:16:15. > :16:18.these rogue traders. They will come to someone's house, rip them off,

:16:18. > :16:21.and then sell their information onto someone else, which we call a

:16:21. > :16:24."sucker list". So if you're on the sucker list, you've been targeted

:16:24. > :16:27.before, they're coming back to get more money off you. Have you caught

:16:27. > :16:30.people doing it? Yes we have. We've caught people in Cardiff, actually

:16:31. > :16:33.on their way to buy a list for information of people on a sucker

:16:33. > :16:43.list. We've also had problems with people posting as BBC Watchdog.

:16:43. > :16:45.

:16:45. > :16:52.They will try and get your money back. Few have been targeted by

:16:52. > :16:54.rogue traders. It's incredible. What about if people don't live in

:16:54. > :16:57.one of these cold calling control zones, can they still protect

:16:57. > :17:01.themselves? Yes they can, simple answer is if anyone comes to your

:17:01. > :17:04.door to sell goods or services you can tell them to go away, that's

:17:04. > :17:08.your request to leave if they come back, and they refuse your request

:17:08. > :17:12.to leave, there's an offence there. You can also use a window sticker

:17:12. > :17:15.if you put it up. If you haven't got one in a cold calling zone, you

:17:15. > :17:18.can still make a sticker up which says "Uninvited callers not welcome,

:17:18. > :17:21.please go". If they don't do so, it's a criminal offence. If they

:17:21. > :17:24.keep coming back, ring Trading Standards. If you're not sure, not

:17:24. > :17:26.happy ring the police, there's no problem with that whatsoever.

:17:26. > :17:29.advice Tim, thanks very much. Next, Lucy's in Haverfordwest,

:17:29. > :17:32.where a brand new shed has become a very soggy structure!

:17:32. > :17:35.Too often the humble shed is overlooked - dismissed as nothing

:17:36. > :17:39.more than the place you shove your shovels at the bottom of the garden.

:17:39. > :17:44.But to many, the shed is so much more - their oasis of calm, their

:17:44. > :17:51.busy workshop, their pride and joy. Some even conceal a hidden world

:17:51. > :17:55.you could never imagine. Like your very own shed cinema, a shed with a

:17:55. > :17:58.bar perhaps? And if your shed is anything but common or garden, you

:17:58. > :18:04.might even find yourself in the running for the hotly contested

:18:04. > :18:07.Shed of the Year. The owners of this garden shed in Haverfordwest

:18:07. > :18:12.may not have had such grand plans but they did have high hopes for

:18:12. > :18:20.how it would enhance their lives. So much so, they spent more than

:18:20. > :18:25.1,600 on it. Do you need anything else now? Steve and Anne McDonald's

:18:25. > :18:28.home is their world. Virtually bedbound through ill health, Anne

:18:28. > :18:32.hoped the shed would give them some space to enjoy the hobbies they

:18:32. > :18:37.love. For Anne, it's arts and crafts while Steve loves model

:18:37. > :18:40.engines. We were hoping to put a small model railway in here and to

:18:40. > :18:44.store Anne's equipment cos as you can see, it's very difficult in the

:18:44. > :18:47.house. I've got a wheelchair out the front, I've got all her

:18:47. > :18:52.handling equipment all over the place so it's very difficult to

:18:52. > :18:58.live in the house as it is. would have hopefully given me a

:18:58. > :19:05.change of environment from the four walls here. Keen to do things right,

:19:05. > :19:08.the McDonalds paid hundreds for a concrete base for the shed. I said

:19:09. > :19:13.to Steve, well look if we're going to spend quite a lot of money for

:19:13. > :19:16.us on a shed, then it needs to be done properly. Anne spotted an

:19:16. > :19:25.advert online for a shed with a 10 year guarantee - and asked the

:19:25. > :19:35.company, Highgate Garden Buildings, to pay her a visit. We explained

:19:35. > :19:37.

:19:37. > :19:41.what we wanted, why we wanted a very specific type of layout. So a

:19:41. > :19:43.chap came down and he said, base was one of the best bases he'd ever

:19:43. > :19:47.seen. And you asked about maintaining the shed? I said we

:19:47. > :19:51.need something that's low maintenance. He said, you won't

:19:51. > :19:58.have to do anything with it for at least 10 years. OK, I thought that

:19:58. > :20:02.sounds pretty good to me. So Anne paid for the shed - and up it went.

:20:02. > :20:07.It looked wonderful the day they did it, mind you, the weather was

:20:07. > :20:10.dry. Everything seemed rosy while the sun was shining but then the

:20:10. > :20:14.wet Welsh autumn arrived. The shed had a soaking and Anne and Steve

:20:14. > :20:17.were in for a shock. Within three days it started leaking. It was

:20:17. > :20:23.damp round the bottom and then we noticed every time it rained, there

:20:23. > :20:28.was rain coming in other places. the rain kept pouring, the problems

:20:28. > :20:31.just got worse. It was coming in where the windows are, it was

:20:31. > :20:36.coming in between the slats, soaking the slats, and in the end

:20:36. > :20:39.it was coming in the roof. Anne complained to Highgate and sent

:20:39. > :20:42.photos - but wasn't happy with their response. They said the shed

:20:42. > :20:50.needed guttering, downpipes and a soakaway -all at the McDonald's

:20:50. > :20:53.expense. So much for those promises of it being low maintenance. And

:20:53. > :20:59.this was the first time the company had talked about gutterings or

:20:59. > :21:03.soakaways? Yeah - he saw the base before they put the shed up, there

:21:03. > :21:06.was no talk about soakaways. None whatsoever. Highgate also said the

:21:06. > :21:12.couple should have put a waterproof coating on the shed - which they'd

:21:12. > :21:16.explained when they bought it. But Anne disagrees. If somebody had

:21:16. > :21:19.said to us you need to do this straight away, we'd have had it

:21:19. > :21:23.done straight away. You don't spend what somewhere in the region of

:21:23. > :21:33.300 - 500 building a base and then 1,600 odd on a shed and then

:21:33. > :21:35.

:21:35. > :21:38.ruin it by not looking after it. Since reaching a stalemate with the

:21:38. > :21:43.company, the shed has sat empty in their garden for months. One time

:21:43. > :21:46.they did leave Anne's spare wheelchair in it, this happened.

:21:46. > :21:49.You couldn't keep anything in there because anything that went in there

:21:49. > :21:52.just it was damp in no time. Unimpressed with their waterlogged

:21:52. > :21:56.wooden hut stuck in their garden, Anne and Steve decided to get an

:21:56. > :22:00.expert opinion. They asked a chartered surveyor to look at the

:22:00. > :22:06.shed. He said the problems were down to poor workmanship and the

:22:06. > :22:11.company's suggestion of guttering wasn't the answer. So how bad is

:22:11. > :22:19.the problem? Well, it was dry the day we visited so I carried out a

:22:19. > :22:22.little experiment. Within minutes, the water was coming through. Four

:22:22. > :22:26.months on, the shed that should've been a special place that Steve and

:22:26. > :22:33.Anne could escape to, has become a waste of space cluttering up their

:22:33. > :22:40.garden. We'd got so many plans for it in our heads, what a difference

:22:40. > :22:44.it was going to make and everything has just gone sour.

:22:44. > :22:47.Well, Highgate Garden Buildings insist this is a one-off complaint.

:22:47. > :22:50.They say there's nothing wrong with the 'craftsmanship' of the shed -

:22:50. > :22:55.but since we got in touch, they've finally been out to see the

:22:55. > :22:58.problems for themselves. And as a gesture of goodwill, they now say

:22:58. > :23:02.they'll fit some guttering and waterproof it, which should help.

:23:03. > :23:12.We'll be checking if it does! Now, Rachel's been finding out how

:23:12. > :23:16.easy it is to leave personal details on your mobile.

:23:16. > :23:19.If you're one of those people who just has to have the latest phone,

:23:19. > :23:22.chances are you've got loads of old ones you don't know what do with!

:23:22. > :23:29.But with 50 million unused mobiles stashed in drawers and cupboards,

:23:29. > :23:33.more and more of us are selling them second hand. On the internet,

:23:33. > :23:37.the local high street - and through the classifieds. But to make the

:23:37. > :23:40.real big bucks, you need to sell one of these a smart phone. That

:23:40. > :23:45.lets you email, use the internet, do your mobile banking and your

:23:45. > :23:48.social networking on the go. More than a million of us in Wales now

:23:48. > :23:53.own a smart phone and here in Cardiff they're big fans. It's

:23:53. > :23:57.amazing, it's the best thing that ever happened to me. I have an

:23:57. > :24:04.iPhone 5 so I am happy with that, it does everything. I could survive

:24:04. > :24:09.without it but not for very long. But - and there's always a "but".

:24:09. > :24:14.Selling your smart phone could land you in more trouble than it's worth.

:24:14. > :24:18.You see, smart phones can reveal intimate details about your life.

:24:18. > :24:21.So if you're going to sell your phone, it's crucial you wipe every

:24:21. > :24:27.single bit of data off it first. But that's not always as easy as it

:24:27. > :24:32.sounds. Actually selling a second hand phone is not a big problem,

:24:32. > :24:38.it's the data that's potentially left on that phone. Jason Hart from

:24:38. > :24:41.eCrime Wales is an ethical hacker. He's got all the gear to get into

:24:41. > :24:43.your smart phone. The only problem, criminal hackers can get it too.

:24:43. > :24:47.There's plenty of applications you can download from the internet

:24:47. > :24:50.freely available which can harvest that information from a phone. So

:24:50. > :24:55.we've got special assignment for Jason. OK Jason this is your

:24:55. > :24:59.mission should you choose to accept it! Now I admit these aren't all my

:24:59. > :25:05.phones, they belong to the X-Ray team. They've wiped them as if they

:25:05. > :25:14.were going to sell them. I want to know what's on there. I am very

:25:14. > :25:20.happy to accept your challenge and probably we'll find some content.

:25:20. > :25:25.Brilliant, I'll leave you to it. Whilst Jason's busy, let's see how

:25:25. > :25:28.savvy we are about deleting data from our smart phones. I would

:25:28. > :25:31.probably make sure it was put back to normal factory settings before

:25:31. > :25:35.selling it on I mean if I had deleted everything that belonged to

:25:35. > :25:38.me I don't think it would even matter I assume that if you take

:25:38. > :25:41.the sim card out it isn't connected anymore so I would sell it onto a

:25:41. > :25:47.company that recycles it I probably wouldn't have any concern about

:25:47. > :25:55.that. So they're not too worried - but should they be? Time to see

:25:56. > :25:58.what Jason's found. So how did you get on? Yeah, absolutely

:25:58. > :26:01.fascinating, the first three phones we picked up we've managed to find

:26:01. > :26:03.a substantial amount of data in summary from the three phones

:26:04. > :26:06.enough data to potentially compromise each of the three

:26:06. > :26:08.individual's online accounts. those three phones, this Blackberry

:26:08. > :26:14.was particularly shocking, Jason quickly found enough information to

:26:14. > :26:20.hack our researcher, Karen's, Twitter account and lots of photos.

:26:20. > :26:23.Very useful for any identity thief. There is a folder highlighting

:26:23. > :26:30.their 22nd birthday, from the photos we can determine when the

:26:30. > :26:34.photo was taken, from that we can work out their date of birth. This

:26:34. > :26:39.second Blackberry also proved revealing. 26-year-old Carys had

:26:39. > :26:46.left behind photos, videos and her entire contacts list. Pretty

:26:46. > :26:49.shocking isn't it? Yes, it is very scary. The data was stored to a

:26:49. > :26:55.data card so they thought they had deleted the content but in fact all

:26:55. > :26:57.of the data was still there. lastly, on this iPhone, Jason

:26:57. > :27:03.accessed owner Colin's Facebook account and could even have spent

:27:03. > :27:06.his money on a shopping website. amazes me the number of times where

:27:06. > :27:08.people actually use their mobile phones to store details of their

:27:08. > :27:14.online accounts so the username, the actual website name itself and

:27:14. > :27:18.the password! So what's Jason's advice for anyone looking to sell

:27:19. > :27:26.their phone? They need to delete the information appropriately and

:27:26. > :27:29.understand where the data is being stored on the phone. And by

:27:29. > :27:32.following some simple rules, you can stop your details getting into

:27:32. > :27:37.the wrong hands. Don't save passwords or pin numbers on your

:27:37. > :27:40.Delete all the data on your handset by restoring factory settings. Take

:27:40. > :27:50.out and destroy your sim card. And remove additional storage devices

:27:50. > :27:52.The message I would get across is, would you physically go around with

:27:52. > :27:55.post it notes and write your personal information your username

:27:55. > :28:02.and password and stick them around in public places, just be very

:28:02. > :28:05.sensitive to what you are storing. Some very useful tips there - and

:28:05. > :28:15.there's more information on our website. And that's it for this

:28:15. > :28:22.
