:00:35. > :00:37.making the most of your cash, here every weekend on BBC News

:00:38. > :00:39.television, available all week on the BBC iPlayer.

:00:40. > :00:41.The new tax year begins, we will work out if you save money or have

:00:42. > :00:44.to cough up more. And international charges on your mobile phone without

:00:45. > :00:47.leaving the UK. Let us start with the story about mobile phones. If

:00:48. > :00:50.you travel abroad, you know that it may cost more to check e`mails or

:00:51. > :00:53.use the Internet on your `` on your telephone. Some people find that

:00:54. > :00:58.they are charged international rates without leaving the UK. People in

:00:59. > :01:06.Dorset, for example. Our technology reporter has been roaming.

:01:07. > :01:11.This picturesque village nestles on the cliff tops in Dorset. It is a

:01:12. > :01:16.popular spot for climbers and walkers, with its vintage tearoom

:01:17. > :01:20.and duck pond. It is quintessentially British, until your

:01:21. > :01:27.mobile phone welcomes you to France and warns you about data roaming

:01:28. > :01:31.charges. I am getting a French signal more often and not able to

:01:32. > :01:38.get the British signal. This lady lives and works here with her

:01:39. > :01:44.family. The signal is very poor. From time to time I can receive or

:01:45. > :01:52.send texts. It has to be on a particular window with specific

:01:53. > :01:56.weather conditions. Whenever I have told my providers that I receive no

:01:57. > :02:00.signal, I have had very little sympathy and certainly no suggestion

:02:01. > :02:10.I'd be entitled to a refund. The problem lies in the landscape. It

:02:11. > :02:13.happens in spots along the coast, because signals find it easier to

:02:14. > :02:19.travel across the water than on the land. In Dover, some people are

:02:20. > :02:23.getting signals from both countries. It is also a problem on people

:02:24. > :02:29.living on the border of Ireland and Northern Ireland. Many people do not

:02:30. > :02:34.know what to do about it. One of the most obvious things people can do is

:02:35. > :02:39.set their telephone to manual, so it will not go on to international

:02:40. > :02:42.roaming. Your phone is just trying to find the stronger signal. When

:02:43. > :02:49.you are at home, it is locked onto your own network, but where you can

:02:50. > :02:52.pick up an international signal, your phone will simply grab the

:02:53. > :02:57.strongest signal. It may be your home network is still available but

:02:58. > :03:05.it is not the strongest signal, at if you lock your phone on to manual,

:03:06. > :03:12.you will avoid this. This also means if you visit the pub here, the

:03:13. > :03:16.silence is golden. It is nice because we do not have telephones

:03:17. > :03:21.going off all the time bringing. But we have to tell them to walk half a

:03:22. > :03:24.mile up the road to get the signal. Or if you have some spare change,

:03:25. > :03:31.there is always the village phone box.

:03:32. > :03:33.Many viewers in parts of Northern Ireland find they have the same

:03:34. > :03:39.issue. Call this the pension detectors. ``

:03:40. > :03:45.detectives. More of us are trying to track down money we have saved in

:03:46. > :03:50.our previous jobs and then lost track of them. The pension tracing

:03:51. > :03:55.service says there were 11,785 requests to help them find lost

:03:56. > :04:02.savings. There are now helping over 100,000 people a year to track down

:04:03. > :04:07.those pensions. And it is thought that over ?3 billion are in

:04:08. > :04:11.forgotten pension pots. If you have lost track of a pension,

:04:12. > :04:21.there is some information on the government website that might help

:04:22. > :04:29.you. Gov.uk. New laws to help bail lives dashing

:04:30. > :04:36.bailiffs in check have been introduced. They will stop people

:04:37. > :04:44.using physical force. Bailiffs are not afford `` allowed to force their

:04:45. > :04:48.way into your room. `` your home. People who can charge thousands of

:04:49. > :04:50.percent in interest if you do not pay back quickly enough have got to

:04:51. > :04:55.follow strict new rules from this weekend. If not, they could be

:04:56. > :05:00.forced out of business. The new city watchdog says it will

:05:01. > :05:03.stop people being forced deeper into debt.

:05:04. > :05:13.Royal Bank of Scotland is to close 44 branches across the UK in 14

:05:14. > :05:19.places. `` in 14 places these are the last branches of banks.

:05:20. > :05:23.We will be able to use our mobile phone numbers to make bank payments

:05:24. > :05:28.from the end of April, the 29th. This means that account holders will

:05:29. > :05:35.be able to pay friends, family or traders without having to ask for

:05:36. > :05:38.bank details. The new tax year starts this weekend

:05:39. > :05:43.and it means we can keep more of our money tax`free. There is not a penny

:05:44. > :05:53.of income tax on the first ?10,000 we are in. If you are over 65, you

:05:54. > :06:05.can keep more, ?10,500. If you are over 75, you can keep ?10,660.

:06:06. > :06:09.It means low paid workers will not pay income tax at all. Those paying

:06:10. > :06:15.the standard rate will benefit, getting 112 trimmed off their bill

:06:16. > :06:22.this year. Anyone earning less than 41,865 gets that rate. If you are

:06:23. > :06:25.earning more than that, you will get 40p on income tax, a higher

:06:26. > :06:35.threshold than last year. If you and your full tax`free amount

:06:36. > :06:41.in savings, you pay just 10% tax on any interest you earn.

:06:42. > :06:46.If you earn more than that, the whole thing is off, the 10p rate is

:06:47. > :06:53.not available. More details on the website. That is

:06:54. > :07:00.all from us this week. You can keep up`to`date with everything on the

:07:01. > :07:04.website. You can follow our updates on Twitter. There will be more again

:07:05. > :07:31.next week. Thank you for watching. A fresh breeze than we have seen of

:07:32. > :07:32.late, but it is coming in
