:02:25. > :02:30.need your help to find two cunning burglars who have been coming their
:02:30. > :02:38.way into upmarket apartments in the Wandsworth area of London. I was
:02:38. > :02:44.feeling shocked, shaky and six. These two work organised. It was
:02:44. > :02:51.well planned. I feel violated. You do not know where they have been or
:02:51. > :02:59.what they have done. Back to seat is the home of choice for a new

:03:07. > :03:14.debris, Sandra went to work as usual. -- February. Two burglars
:03:14. > :03:19.were about to pay her apartment the visit. The burglars were seen

:03:40. > :03:46.The they were smartly dressed to fit in with their surroundings.
:03:46. > :03:51.They have put a lot of thought into it. They were well organised and
:03:51. > :03:59.planned. The suspects headed for two flats at the top of the
:03:59. > :04:04.building. They forced entry into Sandra's flat - high up on the 6th
:04:04. > :04:10.floor. No one suspected a thing until her husband got home from
:04:11. > :04:17.work. When he opened the door, he was horrified. The flat was in
:04:17. > :04:24.chaos. Richard rang Sandra to break the terrible news. I was in shock.
:04:24. > :04:30.I was panicked this had happened. They had been through absolutely
:04:30. > :04:37.everything in the flat. Every drawer, cupboard, box. Everything
:04:37. > :04:43.was overturned. Nothing was left untouched. To make matters worse,
:04:43. > :04:52.some of her most treasured possessions had disappeared.
:04:52. > :04:58.jury was sentimental. Mainly the jury from my grandmother. -- the
:04:58. > :05:04.jury. It was sad to you -- it was sad to lose those things.
:05:04. > :05:08.intruders got away with more than family heirlooms. They went through
:05:08. > :05:17.my husband's things and took his wedding ring. I had had it made for
:05:17. > :05:22.him. It was special. In total, suspects stole over 11,000 worth
:05:22. > :05:28.of property. I am very angry with them, thinking they can take all
:05:28. > :05:35.these things and we can claim on insurance. The lot of the items -
:05:35. > :05:39.sentimental items - they are not replaceable. The unwelcome visitors
:05:39. > :05:46.were not done yet. They wanted more. Once they've finished ransacking
:05:46. > :05:51.the flat, they moved on to the one next door. The two suspects were
:05:51. > :05:59.brazen. They had broken into the first flat, moved on to the second
:05:59. > :06:09.flat where they had ransacked the property. Sandra rang her neighbour,
:06:09. > :06:09.
:06:09. > :06:14.Zane, to break the bad news. It is just shock. You do not expect it.
:06:14. > :06:20.It made me feel violated. You do not know where they have been, what
:06:20. > :06:25.they have done. You do not know who they are and what they're after.
:06:25. > :06:33.Stephanie was devastated by the thought of having intruders in her
:06:33. > :06:39.home. The initial feeling, especially from Stephanie was, she
:06:39. > :06:43.wants to get out. That is why it I cleaned the whole place. It was a
:06:43. > :06:48.case of grabbed a load of disinfectant, bleach, cleaning
:06:48. > :06:54.products, and go around the whole flat, cleaning, hoovering and
:06:54. > :07:01.dusting to try to get the feeling of normality back. Feel like it is
:07:01. > :07:06.our apartment again. To add insult to injury, the burglars also stole
:07:06. > :07:11.the Mercedes sports car. They were caught on camera driving out of the
:07:11. > :07:16.underground car park. It was kind of like the second wave. Go down
:07:16. > :07:24.the lift, see the entry space where the car was and it was just like,
:07:24. > :07:34.bang, there is the final hit. out later how the detective work of
:07:34. > :07:42.
:07:42. > :07:45.Sunder linked them to their home and the theft. -- Sandra. And we'll
:07:45. > :07:50.see how Sandra gets on with her detective work later in the
:07:50. > :07:56.programme. But first, let's take a look at this morning's CCTV. York
:07:56. > :08:01.station and this man tries to sort at a row at the taxi rank by
:08:01. > :08:07.punching his victim unconscious on the floor. The third who flew -

:08:16. > :08:20.Be cannot forget that shed in a hurry! Give us a call. -- that
:08:20. > :08:27.shirt. These two are heading into a general store in Slough. They do
:08:27. > :08:33.not want to be recognised. They have hand guns and threaten staff.
:08:33. > :08:38.It turns violent. His scarf is starting to slip so we can see part
:08:38. > :08:43.of his face. The shopkeeper gets pulled over the counter and hit
:08:43. > :08:52.over their head. Behind him, the second rubber casually puts his

:09:55. > :09:58.cwr@bbc.co.uk. Now time for a quick update on yesterday's appeals. We
:09:58. > :10:01.had a lot of calls on the attempted kidnapping of the young woman in
:10:01. > :10:03.Kingston in London. You've phoned in with possible names and
:10:03. > :10:08.locations for the attacker. Police are sifting through all that and
:10:08. > :10:11.say they have a number of promising new leads. Plus we got some really
:10:11. > :10:17.detailed information on Wanted Face Patrick Feeney, wanted in

:10:27. > :10:29.
:10:29. > :10:33.Covent Garden and Alice. Thanks, Rav. It's Friday, lots of people
:10:33. > :10:35.will be arriving in London for a weekend break. Now, 30 million
:10:35. > :10:42.tourists visit London every year, and this summer, the Met are
:10:42. > :10:45.running a special campaign called Operation Trafalgar. Hundreds of
:10:45. > :10:55.officers including the mounted police are making these streets a
:10:55. > :10:57.
:10:57. > :11:02.safer place to be for everyoe who Officers whose job it is to keep
:11:02. > :11:08.people save have their job cut out for them. It is teeming with
:11:08. > :11:12.tourists and people on a night out. They are targets for pickpockets.
:11:12. > :11:17.Operation Trafalgar has been launched to keep people safe in the
:11:17. > :11:22.West End. It is a high profile, long-term operation we are running
:11:22. > :11:28.in the West End. We want to make the West End of London hostile and
:11:28. > :11:32.diamond for criminals to operate. Operation Trafalgar draws on
:11:32. > :11:38.officers from many sections of the mat. Tonight mounted officers are
:11:38. > :11:42.on patrol. A we're here to reassure members of the public and to combat
:11:43. > :11:48.antisocial behaviour, linked to alcohol, as well as personal
:11:48. > :11:55.robbery. What is the plan for tonight? We will be aiming to go
:11:55. > :12:01.past the key areas. There will be looking at theatres, licensed
:12:01. > :12:06.premises. -- we will be looking. All areas that will be busy. They
:12:06. > :12:11.continue their patrols around the Charing Cross area on a busy Friday
:12:11. > :12:15.night. It is not long before they are responding to a call for help
:12:15. > :12:20.from members of the public who had detained the suspected fraudster.
:12:20. > :12:26.By the time I catch up with them, they have detained the suspects and
:12:26. > :12:31.up in the process of searching them. They may have been a fraud in
:12:32. > :12:37.PizzaExpress. He was seen running out, chased by a member of staff.
:12:37. > :12:44.He was given chase. I think the police and horses arrived and he
:12:44. > :12:49.has been arrested. The suspected con man is not happy about being
:12:49. > :12:57.caught. You can see his bag of forged notes in hands of one of the
:12:57. > :13:02.officers. What just happened? had offered false cash, forged
:13:02. > :13:07.notes, in PizzaExpress. He was chased across Trafalgar Square.
:13:07. > :13:13.When we arrived on the scene, he was searched. He had copious
:13:13. > :13:22.amounts of cash on him. It is believed they are forgeries and he
:13:22. > :13:30.has been arrested. As they get back on patrol, Charlotte needs a little
:13:30. > :13:38.out from a restaurant chain. It is clear to see the man to brunch are
:13:38. > :13:45.both effective and very ill crowd pleaser. -- have mounted branch are
:13:45. > :13:53.both effective and a real crowd pleaser. With me now is Chief
:13:53. > :14:01.Inspector Kevin Hobson. As we saw there in the film, Operation
:14:01. > :14:04.Trafalgar is a major undertaking. Indeed it is. Every week over 1000
:14:04. > :14:10.officers are deployed on the streets in the West End. It is a
:14:10. > :14:19.very busy summer. You will be stretched to full capacity. Will
:14:19. > :14:24.Londoners be safe? They well. We do want people to take personal
:14:24. > :14:28.responsibility. We have personal safety advice and crime prevention
:14:28. > :14:34.advice being given to people. We have lots of information. We want
:14:34. > :14:41.people to follow worse on our Twitter account. What should we
:14:41. > :14:48.know? -- follow us. If you have a mobile phone, do not hold it in
:14:48. > :14:58.front of you. Thank you for talking to us. Let's find out have the
:14:58. > :14:59.
:14:59. > :15:06.I want you to watch very closely for a couple of minutes. This may
:15:06. > :15:11.help you not to lose your wallet. Sophie, this must be an absolutely
:15:11. > :15:15.fascinating job? There is always a variation in what we are
:15:15. > :15:21.investigating. And you get to hear about all the latest scams, one of
:15:21. > :15:25.which is table surfing. Tommy about that. Often there will be someone
:15:25. > :15:30.pretending to be a tourist. They come into the cafe or bar way you
:15:30. > :15:35.are having a drink. They will put something in front of you, and say,
:15:35. > :15:45.I really want to get to Big Ben, can you tell me how I do that? And
:15:45. > :15:45.
:15:45. > :15:50.then they walk away with the map, and your phone is gone. So look out
:15:50. > :15:56.for that. And handbags are always a target, and there a sneaky ways to
:15:56. > :16:00.get one. What happens is, you could be sitting in a restaurant or pub,
:16:00. > :16:04.your bag will be on the floor, you think it is safe because you have
:16:04. > :16:11.left it there. They move in behind you, take the bag while you're
:16:11. > :16:19.distracted, and before you know, it's gone. If your bag is gone and
:16:19. > :16:26.the thief is gone, is there any chance of getting it back?
:16:26. > :16:31.looking to CCTV, and identify the suspect. And then you are at
:16:32. > :16:38.spotting those phases in the crowd. Do these people usually coming
:16:38. > :16:43.quietly, or is it very suddenly? They think they have got away with
:16:43. > :16:50.the crime. They do normally come quietly. But they haven't
:16:50. > :17:00.necessarily got away with it. Beware when you're out and about.
:17:00. > :17:12.
:17:12. > :17:15.Time now to take a look at today's Wanted Faces. Today we're showing
:17:15. > :17:18.you some of the suspects we've already shown you this week. The
:17:18. > :17:21.response has been good, but police want more information. First up,
:17:21. > :17:25.this man, James Hannon. We showed you his face on Monday, but police
:17:25. > :17:27.still need more details on where he is now. He was charged with an
:17:27. > :17:32.offence of aggravated burglary in 2003, but failed to appear before
:17:32. > :17:34.Croydon Crown Court. It's thought he may now be living in Ireland,
:17:34. > :17:37.but also has connections to the Tunbridge Wells. Next, Steven Brown.
:17:37. > :17:41.He was arrested in May 2010 on suspicion of breaching a sexual
:17:41. > :17:42.offences prevention order. He has a noticeable Westcountry accent and
:17:42. > :17:47.noticeable Westcountry accent and still has connections in the
:17:47. > :17:50.still has connections in the Wiltshire and Bristol areas. On
:17:50. > :17:54.Tuesday we showed you Mohamed Ahmed Aden. He was given two years in
:17:54. > :17:56.prison for robbery, but didn't turn up in court to be sentenced. He's
:17:56. > :17:59.described as having a Somali accent and has connections to the
:17:59. > :18:02.Leicester and London areas. Do you know where he is?
:18:02. > :18:05.And finally this man, Sal Adams, will be 30 tomorrow. Last year he
:18:05. > :18:08.was sentenced in his absence to three years and nine months for
:18:08. > :18:11.fraud and offences relating to the Proceeds of Crime Act. He has a
:18:11. > :18:14.north-west accent and connections to the Blackpool area. He's also
:18:14. > :18:17.known to gamble in casinos. You gave us potential locations for him,
:18:17. > :18:21.but let's spoil his birthday and put him behind bars. If you
:18:21. > :18:29.recognise him, or any of our Wanted Faces, give us a call.
:18:29. > :18:35.Coming up on today's programme: Tackling the muggers and
:18:35. > :18:37.pickpockets in the early hours, how the Met faces the challenges of
:18:37. > :18:41.police in the city streets. They stole thousands of pounds of
:18:41. > :18:48.jewellery from a posh Pent house. Can you help us identify these
:18:48. > :18:52.thieves? And Irene's beloved china figures -
:18:52. > :18:56.there theft left her heart broken. Can you help us track them down?
:18:56. > :19:06.Now, back to Dave and news of a highly organised scam that the Met
:19:06. > :19:10.need your help with. Yes, Rav. It is a scam you can fall
:19:10. > :19:16.victim to when you're using one of these in its -- cash machine. We
:19:17. > :19:22.have some CCTV of the gang in operation. You will see that the
:19:22. > :19:26.victim is the man at the cash machine. The suspect can be seen
:19:26. > :19:31.gathering around him. One looks over his shoulder and takes a note
:19:31. > :19:35.of his pain while the other and drops a fiver on the fourth. He
:19:35. > :19:40.taps the victim on his shoulder and points out the money on the floor.
:19:40. > :19:44.While he is distracted, another member of the gang steals the card,
:19:44. > :19:48.then all of the gang members disburse, leaving the victim
:19:48. > :19:52.wondering where his kadis. PC Victoria Yusuf, this is an
:19:52. > :19:54.organised gang you're looking for. Yes, we believe that this is a very
:19:54. > :20:01.well-organised gang who are suspected of stealing bank cards
:20:01. > :20:03.and PIN numbers from people as they use cashpoint machines. There's
:20:03. > :20:06.usualy five people working together, they all have specific roles such
:20:06. > :20:09.as the look out, the observer, the distraction man and card-taker.
:20:09. > :20:12.What happened after they got the card? These guys work fast. The
:20:12. > :20:15.victim had 300 pounds withdrawn from his account almost immediately
:20:15. > :20:18.after the gang stole his card. They then used the card to purchase
:20:18. > :20:22.alcohol, so the total amount of money stolen was about 600. 600
:20:22. > :20:26.in a matter of moment. And they are very crafty, because they don't
:20:26. > :20:33.take the money, just the card. The victim is waiting because he thinks
:20:33. > :20:43.the card will come out, and then after a couple of minutes, realises.
:20:43. > :20:46.
:20:46. > :20:50.How it is too late. So people really need to be aware of anyone
:20:50. > :20:56.who appears to be getting to close to them whilst getting money out of
:20:56. > :21:00.a hole in the wall? Don't let anybody get too close to you while
:21:00. > :21:10.you're using the cash., and beware of what is going on around you.
:21:10. > :21:12.Sensible advice. Now back to Alice. Now to Croydon and the pensioner
:21:12. > :21:19.whose treasured collection of porcelain figures has been targeted
:21:19. > :21:26.by burglars - not once, but twice. I started collecting royal Doulton
:21:26. > :21:34.because my aunt was interested in the 1930s. Every year for 20 years,
:21:34. > :21:38.I bought her a figure for Christmas. From Irene, her Royal Doulton
:21:38. > :21:44.figurines will be linked to the memory of her beloved Aunty Hilda.
:21:44. > :21:51.These figurines have become extremely important to me. They
:21:51. > :21:55.trigger memories of the past. two years ago, burglars broke into
:21:55. > :22:00.her home, stealing three figures and with them part of the
:22:00. > :22:06.connection with her late aunt. Somebody just comes in and thinks
:22:06. > :22:13.it is OK to walk off with everything that you have collected
:22:13. > :22:16.and part of your life, part of your history. You can't recapture that.
:22:16. > :22:20.Irene's insurance company paid out, and she was able to replace the
:22:20. > :22:27.stolen items. But her prize collection would soon be targeted
:22:27. > :22:33.again. In March of this year, Irene and her husband, who suffers from
:22:33. > :22:40.lung disease, left the house for a rare night out. As they set off,
:22:40. > :22:47.burglars were preparing to strike for a second time. It all happened,
:22:47. > :22:54.I'm afraid, when on the first evening for some weeks, because of
:22:54. > :22:58.my husband's health, we had gone out to supper. As Eileen and her
:22:58. > :23:06.husband enjoyed their night out, an intruder was busy working on how to
:23:06. > :23:12.get into their house. We believe the suspects have climbed through
:23:12. > :23:16.the kitchen window. It is quite high up from the floor level.
:23:16. > :23:21.he had forced his way in, the intruder's first move was to make
:23:21. > :23:25.sure he wouldn't be disturbed. He fixed the chain across the front
:23:25. > :23:29.door so no one could get in. Then he took his pick of the couple's
:23:29. > :23:38.prized possessions - jewellery, war medals and Irene's beloved
:23:38. > :23:42.figurines. We believe the suspect made off with about nine Royal
:23:42. > :23:47.Doulton figurines worth about 1,900, some sentimental jewellery
:23:47. > :23:52.and some plates that had a lot of sentimental value to Irene as well.
:23:52. > :23:56.At about half-past 11, Eileen and her husband returned from their
:23:56. > :24:04.evening out, but when I ring tried the door, she realised something
:24:04. > :24:13.was wrong. We couldn't get in. I became rather worried, because it

:28:07. > :28:12.
:28:12. > :28:18.chatting away as normal customers. They're asking to see all sorts of
:28:18. > :28:22.jewellery and are having a good look at it.
:28:22. > :28:29.And now it looks like they're being helpful here and helping the shop
:28:29. > :28:32.assistants with the packing. Yes, it is all part of their act. We've
:28:32. > :28:37.examined the CCTV to see how they managed to get away with so much

:29:09. > :29:13.They left a 40 deposit, saying they would be back to pick up the

:29:51. > :29:54.Well, hopefully someone out there will have some information on their

:30:05. > :30:14.Stuart, just why do we fall victim to this when it's happening right

:30:24. > :30:27.legally. You are going to show us how easy this sleight of hand is.
:30:27. > :30:34.Our floor manager is just sweating behind camera there, because he has

:31:14. > :31:22.place. I was focusing on your hand. I did not see that. I was watching
:31:22. > :31:29.you so closely. It literally seemed to disappear into thinner. This is
:31:29. > :31:36.what they are doing. You are creating a diversion. They are
:31:36. > :31:46.looking somewhere else and then it happens. It is so easily done, even
:31:46. > :31:46.
:31:46. > :31:53.when it happens again. These are recognisable as the lottery slips
:31:53. > :31:57.we will see every day. Everyone at home will be watching you like a
:31:57. > :32:04.hawk. I get you to see what I want you to see and get you to do what I
:32:04. > :32:14.want you to do. Again, in the right direction. I have no idea where
:32:14. > :32:15.
:32:15. > :32:25.they have gone. Unbelievable! You have just made 80 quid out of
:32:25. > :32:28.
:32:28. > :32:34.nowhere. Thank you for joining us. More on those burglars who have
:32:34. > :32:42.been stealing from upmarket flats. They stole thousands of pounds of
:32:42. > :32:47.property before escaping in a Mercedes. I am always wondering
:32:47. > :32:53.where that everything will still be here. Sandra was determined to
:32:53. > :32:59.fight back. She distributed leaflets, showing CCTV images of
:32:59. > :33:06.burglars around her local area. physically walked around the area
:33:06. > :33:11.and distributed them to the concierge desks to the local
:33:11. > :33:17.buildings that are similar to ours. Shortly after she had handed out
:33:17. > :33:20.the leaflet, her detective work received a breakthrough. She
:33:20. > :33:26.received a call explaining there had been a burglary at a
:33:26. > :33:30.neighbouring block. I telephone them and they confirmed they
:33:30. > :33:36.recognised the burglars from there CCTV, comparing them to the
:33:36. > :33:41.pictures I have left, and realised they were the same people. This
:33:41. > :33:47.second burglary shared the same method. Once again the suspects
:33:47. > :33:53.were caught approaching the complex on CCTV. This time they were seen.
:33:53. > :33:58.The cleaner disturb the suspects in the garage area of the second
:33:58. > :34:05.burglary. The suspects had to break out of the garage area. The cleaner
:34:05. > :34:11.later identified the same two suspects. In the images from the
:34:11. > :34:20.flyers handed out by Sandra. Natalia was the victim this time.
:34:20. > :34:30.The spoils from the burglary were huge. I had a Baywatch, which to be
:34:30. > :34:31.
:34:31. > :34:38.insured would be 32,000. -- a watch. I had some other watchers.
:34:38. > :34:45.One had diamonds in it. I had a very expensive diamond ring,
:34:46. > :34:54.costing 60,000. I had Chanel earrings. All that has gone. It is
:34:54. > :34:59.estimated at about 150,000. I was crying for about a week every day.
:34:59. > :35:04.Because the contents is very expensive, not many insurers would
:35:04. > :35:14.insure me for this type of value. It would cost me a lot of money
:35:14. > :35:14.
:35:14. > :35:20.every year to be insured so I did not take out insurance. Some jerk's
:35:20. > :35:25.detective work linked the two burglaries. -- Sandra. The suspects
:35:25. > :35:30.had stolen hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of property. They're
:35:30. > :35:37.cool, calm and know what they are doing. They make a one to commit
:35:37. > :35:42.further offences and the need to catch them. -- they may go on.
:35:42. > :35:48.you can hear a lot of clattering and banging in the background, it
:35:48. > :35:54.is Covent Garden and they are setting up. Just describe to me
:35:54. > :35:59.what went through your mind when it opened the front door? There is the
:35:59. > :36:03.thought that people have been into your home and been three of

:36:10. > :36:17.home is somewhere to be safe and secure. It is your private space
:36:17. > :36:23.violated, isn't it? You turned detective, why? Having had this bad
:36:23. > :36:26.experience, it is the thought of having it happen to someone else. I
:36:27. > :36:34.produced flyers and went around to the local community to raise
:36:34. > :36:38.awareness and warned them. You had some success, didn't you? Yes.
:36:39. > :36:43.Linking the burglaries has helped the police with their inquiries.
:36:43. > :36:50.What would you like to say to anybody who knows all recognises
:36:50. > :36:58.them? If anyone recognises them, please get in touch. Let's hope
:36:58. > :37:08.they do. As she says, you can call Crimestoppers anonymously. It is
:37:08. > :37:13.time for us to get an update on Operation Trafalgar. It is a busy
:37:13. > :37:19.Friday night in the West End. There are thousands of tourists and
:37:19. > :37:24.revellers enjoying the weather in late May. We are here as part of
:37:24. > :37:28.Operation Trafalgar. It is based on an idea used by the police force in
:37:28. > :37:34.New York in the 1990s. It means there are extra officers patrolling
:37:34. > :37:39.the streets to make it safe. tend to encounter things like drink
:37:39. > :37:44.fuelled violence, assaults. Pickpockets, we have a big problem
:37:45. > :37:50.with pickpockets. With thousands of people swamping the West End, it is
:37:50. > :37:54.not long before a couple of suspects are stopped - one of whom
:37:54. > :38:00.is unknown thief. We have been given something to mention that the
:38:00. > :38:05.officers have arrested someone suspected of pickpocketing.
:38:05. > :38:11.officers had stopped the two suspects. A member of the public
:38:11. > :38:19.has just handed me three cards - and oyster and two bank cards -
:38:19. > :38:23.that have been found on the burglar. That is yards away from the
:38:23. > :38:31.possible pickpockets. We stop these guys very close to the place where
:38:31. > :38:36.the bank cards have been found. -- stopped. They do not have enough
:38:36. > :38:41.evidence to arrest the men. They do believe they are up to no good,
:38:41. > :38:46.getting very close to passers by. They issued with an antisocial
:38:46. > :38:53.dispersal order. This means you are banned from coming here for the
:38:53. > :38:58.next 24 hours. If you are seen in the area in that time, you will be
:38:58. > :39:02.arrested. As the two suspected pickpockets melt into the crowds on
:39:02. > :39:08.Shaftesbury Avenue, it is time to check out a new addition to the
:39:08. > :39:13.West End street furniture. Towering above the revellers are police
:39:13. > :39:20.podiums. The podiums are here to be another set of eyes in this kind.
:39:20. > :39:25.It is so busy. There are so many people walking down. They can see
:39:25. > :39:30.over the tops of people, through people. You can see a lot more from
:39:30. > :39:34.up there than at street level. the night progresses, they are
:39:34. > :39:39.alerted by the CCTV control room to a known drug user acting

:39:56. > :40:01.You're not going to say who you got the drugs off, are you? Although
