:00:14. > :00:24.stealing money from thousands of formal ball people with just one

:00:24. > :00:43.

:00:43. > :00:50.everyday this week, facing up to the feelings that get you down. We need

:00:50. > :00:58.your help to sort them out. Today, it starts with a phone call,

:00:58. > :01:03.but it is a con that netted these criminals a quarter of 1 million.

:01:03. > :01:05.We are taking to the skies above central London to see how the Met

:01:05. > :01:11.Police's Air Support Unit helps fight crime in the capital.

:01:11. > :01:17.And, hunting for the thief who made off with a unique piece of boxing

:01:17. > :01:21.history. Our roadshow team are out and about,

:01:21. > :01:27.and they are with the Met Police on the north-eastern edge of London, so

:01:27. > :01:33.where are you? Good morning, today I am in Essex,

:01:33. > :01:41.the home to the Air Support Unit. There are three helicopters based

:01:41. > :01:45.here, on call to police London, behind me, 24 hours a day. They are

:01:46. > :01:52.the capital's ie in the sky, and we will find out how instrumental they

:01:52. > :01:56.are in the fight against crime. There is nothing worse than a scam

:01:56. > :01:59.which deliberately targets older people, and there are sophisticated

:01:59. > :02:07.fraudsters at large who will stop at nothing to get their hands on your

:02:08. > :02:12.money. If you want to avoid becoming a victim, watch carefully.

:02:12. > :02:19.Thousands of people in London have been ripped off by a scam known as

:02:19. > :02:25.courier fraud in the past two years, and these offences are on the rise.

:02:25. > :02:29.Even people who know all about crime can be caught out. This woman is a

:02:29. > :02:34.retired businesswoman in her 70s and has been a member of her local crime

:02:34. > :02:39.prevention panel for more than 20 years. But she was taken in by this

:02:39. > :02:44.very sophisticated scam. What happens is the fraudsters get hold

:02:44. > :02:51.of victims' phone numbers and addresses from online directories,

:02:51. > :02:56.they contain information, they will phone up the victim, purporting to

:02:56. > :02:59.be from the bank or the police, they will tell them their card has been

:02:59. > :03:03.compromised. She was getting ready to go out to a charity event when

:03:04. > :03:12.the phone rang. She was eager to leave the house, so her mind was

:03:12. > :03:17.elsewhere. The fraudsters had timed their call perfectly. I am from the

:03:17. > :03:23.Apple Store, he said, somebody has cloned your card, they have used it

:03:23. > :03:29.to buy something in the store. convinced her that somebody was

:03:29. > :03:32.using her card details to make fraudulent transactions. They will

:03:32. > :03:37.gain the trust of the victim by saying they have stopped the fraud,

:03:37. > :03:40.and they will need to collect the cards from them. The fraudster told

:03:41. > :03:46.her to call her bank, using the contact number printed on the back

:03:46. > :03:51.of her card. But they held the end of the line open, so when the victim

:03:51. > :03:55.phones back, they are connected to the full studies or their

:03:55. > :04:01.accomplice. She thought she was phoning the bank, but she was

:04:01. > :04:07.speaking to another criminal. plausible man with an educated voice

:04:07. > :04:11.and said the telephone. He asked for my name, the questions he asked are

:04:11. > :04:16.exactly like when you bring up your bank and want to do something by

:04:17. > :04:21.telephone banking. The fraudster said he was transferring her call to

:04:21. > :04:28.her bank's Security Department. This time, there was another voice,

:04:28. > :04:35.again, just another member of the gang. He said, you are never to give

:04:36. > :04:40.away your pin number. I said, yes. I said, I have not done that. He said,

:04:40. > :04:47.just press on the telephone keypad the first and the third numbers.

:04:47. > :04:53.There was a pause, and he came back and said, sorry to bother you, could

:04:53. > :04:58.we now have the two other missing numbers? They hold a piece of

:04:58. > :05:03.software on an iPad or an iPhone close to the receiver, it will heal

:05:03. > :05:09.-- here the ketones, and it will decode them into a pin number.

:05:09. > :05:15.criminals told her that they needed her card and that they would send a

:05:15. > :05:22.career to collect it. I said, how am I to know this is genuine? He said,

:05:22. > :05:27.hold on. He went away. He said, I can give you the car registration

:05:27. > :05:31.number. The criminals gave her the details of the taxi they had booked

:05:31. > :05:38.and told her to put the card in an envelope. It arrived very quickly, I

:05:38. > :05:43.was surprised, that was another thing that dawned on me afterwards.

:05:43. > :05:49.After checking the registration, she handed over her card. The criminals

:05:50. > :05:56.used it to go on a spending spree. She is one of thousands of victims

:05:56. > :06:00.of career fraud in the London area. Here, this is just a fraction of the

:06:00. > :06:06.thousands of pounds worth of stolen goods bought by the Courier

:06:06. > :06:09.fraudsters using stolen cards. Police used this room at the station

:06:09. > :06:15.to store the goods they have recovered from the fraudsters, from

:06:15. > :06:19.televisions to design a close, hundreds of items have been seized.

:06:19. > :06:26.In the last three years, there have been 3000 of these frauds in

:06:26. > :06:31.London, totalling 10 million. January, these brothers were

:06:31. > :06:36.convicted of career fraud against more than 200 people. They had

:06:36. > :06:41.stolen a quarter of 1 million. The man on the left was sentenced to six

:06:41. > :06:45.years and his brother to four years. They were the first suspects

:06:45. > :06:50.convicted of this particular crime. They lived together in a council

:06:50. > :06:58.flat in King's Cross. When we visited, it was full of designer

:06:58. > :07:03.clothing, 50 bottles of aftershave, 2500 worth, design issues, jeans,

:07:04. > :07:09.many of which had not been warned. They were living a highlife, one of

:07:09. > :07:13.them had been abroad on holiday on other people's cards, four nights in

:07:13. > :07:19.a Miami beach-front apartment. Henrietta was conned by a different

:07:19. > :07:24.gang. Police say the full studies usually target older people. Most of

:07:24. > :07:29.the victims tend to be elderly or otherwise for mobile. The oldest

:07:29. > :07:34.victim we have had is over 100, many have been over 90, and the average

:07:34. > :07:39.age is 74, relatively wealthy, living in decent areas, which is

:07:39. > :07:47.where they make their money. Henrietta is angry that she has been

:07:47. > :07:50.caught out by these very convincing crooks. I feel very cross. I have

:07:50. > :07:55.been in this crime prevention business for a long time, the

:07:55. > :07:59.training should have told me it was a fraud. But somehow, it did not,

:07:59. > :08:09.because they did everything systematically, exactly as you would

:08:09. > :08:14.

:08:14. > :08:19.want you to be aware, if they get hold of your stolen cards, they will

:08:19. > :08:25.be spending on them straightaway, often going to expensive shops. That

:08:25. > :08:30.is the second part of this. The police want your help, especially to

:08:30. > :08:34.track one woman, she has gone on a huge spending spree in a high-end

:08:34. > :08:38.department store in stolen cards, and we have got some CCTV for you to

:08:38. > :08:43.look at. She is using a bank card and tapping

:08:43. > :08:49.in a pin number, but there is one problem. The bank card belongs to

:08:49. > :08:56.somebody who is 78 years old. Police believe this woman used the card to

:08:56. > :09:06.buy a diamond ring worth 13,900. Easy to spend money when it belongs

:09:06. > :09:11.to somebody else. She looked good for 78! This is part

:09:11. > :09:16.of a scam, they spend straightaway. Yes, once the career has dropped off

:09:16. > :09:21.the card, they will tested at an ATM, and had to be shops and spend

:09:21. > :09:24.the money. They want to know how much people have got in their

:09:25. > :09:31.account, especially this one, you are keen to catch her. We have got

:09:31. > :09:38.some more CCTV in London and Reading, again, shopping. Over a

:09:38. > :09:42.period of two days, she spent 100,000 using two peoples cards,

:09:42. > :09:47.both victims pensioners. Terrible for people taken in by this, it is

:09:47. > :09:53.terribly upsetting. What is the advice? Never give your pin number

:09:53. > :09:57.over the phone, do not fit into the phone, if they tell you to call back

:09:57. > :10:01.to the bank, leave it for five minutes, go and get a capacity,

:10:01. > :10:08.either that or use a different phone, use your mobile instead of a

:10:08. > :10:14.landline. The aware. Lights, camera, action, time to take

:10:14. > :10:19.a look at the first batch of CCTV footage from around the country, can

:10:19. > :10:22.you help the police find any of this lot?

:10:22. > :10:28.A man enters this designer shop in the Battersea area of London in

:10:28. > :10:34.January. He wants some of the nice gear on sale but does not want to

:10:34. > :10:38.pay for it. He hides himself behind the display and grabs one back,

:10:38. > :10:46.hiding it in the plastic one he is holding. Then, he takes another and

:10:46. > :10:50.hides that as well. His friend joins him and takes yet another bag. The

:10:50. > :10:54.sales assistant asks if they need any help. But they have got

:10:54. > :11:03.everything they came in for and make a move.

:11:03. > :11:08.If you recognise them, get in touch. These men are heading towards acting

:11:09. > :11:13.in West London. They are travelling light, when they get on the bus, and

:11:13. > :11:17.take their seats by the luggage rack. Look what one of them is

:11:17. > :11:23.carrying by the time they get off. It is a huge suitcase. Off on your

:11:23. > :11:28.holidays? Can you spot the difference? The suitcase contained

:11:28. > :11:35.jewellery worth almost 300 and 500 worth of clothes. It is an open and

:11:35. > :11:40.shut case. Call us if you know them.

:11:40. > :11:45.It is the end of the route on this bus in archway in London, this bus

:11:45. > :11:53.driver is having trouble with a passenger who refuses to get off. He

:11:53. > :11:58.is on the phone to police, as the man finally decides to leave. He

:11:58. > :12:03.exits through the middle doors, but instead of walking off, he comes

:12:03. > :12:07.round to the front. The cameras do not quite catch it, but he had but

:12:07. > :12:11.the driver in the face. Let's help the police catch this violent man.

:12:11. > :12:20.If you recognise him or any of the others, pick up the phone, you can

:12:20. > :12:29.call us, text us or e-mail us. Remember to add the space in your

:12:29. > :12:32.text message, or else your message will not get through.

:12:32. > :12:38.Police in the neighbouring Thames Valley force are hunting for a thief

:12:38. > :12:43.who made off with the unique piece of boxing history.

:12:43. > :12:45.Jack Petersen was a boxing superstar. He was the first Welshman

:12:45. > :12:55.to win both the British and Empire light heavyweight and heavyweight

:12:55. > :12:55.

:12:55. > :12:59.titles. In 1934, he secured his very prestigious Lonsdale Belt. He died

:13:00. > :13:06.in 1990, and the belt is a priceless reminder of what he achieved. It

:13:06. > :13:11.meant the world to his family. Until one day, it was stolen. It is

:13:11. > :13:21.sickening, absolutely sickening. The thought of some thief coming in to

:13:21. > :13:22.

:13:22. > :13:25.my house and taking it, it fills me with disgust. Police believe the

:13:25. > :13:34.belt was stolen sometime between March and May this year, from his

:13:34. > :13:42.home in Buckinghamshire. We have oil central heating and we suddenly

:13:42. > :13:49.realised, with my neighbours, that our oil tanks had been filtered,

:13:49. > :13:54.people had stolen the oil. As a result, one becomes very conscious,

:13:54. > :13:59.there is a thief around, somebody has stolen the oil. I said, my God,

:13:59. > :14:03.I wonder if they have taken anything else. I looked for the belt and

:14:03. > :14:09.found it had gone. Somebody came into my house and just walked out

:14:09. > :14:18.with it. The nine carat gold belt, which was very similar to this one,

:14:18. > :14:22.was made by a jewellery firm in 1908. These belts are very rare.

:14:22. > :14:30.There are no replicas, so every belt is an original, there are not many

:14:30. > :14:38.around. They would be collectable, very. It is a family heirloom. It is

:14:38. > :14:42.about 100 years old. Dad fought for it. Jack retired at the age of 24

:14:42. > :14:48.after sustaining an eye injury. He was the first boxer to be elected

:14:48. > :14:52.president of the British boxing board of control. He was extremely

:14:52. > :14:58.well-known, he was a great icon in this area, and he went on to become

:14:58. > :15:06.a steward on the board, and the chairman and president. He was a big

:15:06. > :15:10.influence in Great Britain. Buckinghamshire, a unique family

:15:10. > :15:15.heirloom is sorely missed, and Jack's someone sit back. Even at my

:15:15. > :15:25.age, I would like to see that guy will stop I am prepared to fight him

:15:25. > :15:27.for it anyway cares to say, because it is aided dusting act. -- it is a

:15:27. > :15:32.disgusting act. He is understandably upset about the

:15:32. > :15:35.theft of his father's belt. I am joined by Ian Williams from the

:15:35. > :15:44.Thames Valley Case, who are investigating this case. It is

:15:44. > :15:50.unusual. The item is unique. If we can look at it again, it is not the

:15:50. > :15:56.same as the modern Lonsdale belts, is it? Yap, the main plaque has a

:15:56. > :16:01.picture of Lord Lonsdale. This one has a picture of two boxers

:16:01. > :16:07.fighting. We heard about all of thefts in the area. Do you think

:16:07. > :16:13.they are linked? I don't believe that is linked. Getting this item

:16:13. > :16:17.back is important to the family. You are boxing fan yourself, aren't you?

:16:17. > :16:22.As a fan, I can appreciate the history behind it. But anyone who

:16:22. > :16:28.meets John could understand the sentiments behind the item. A very

:16:28. > :16:31.valuable item. The danger is that it could have been stolen for scrap.

:16:31. > :16:36.would be a shame if that is what has happened and it has been melted

:16:36. > :16:41.down. It is a night of such a story value. One theory is that it could

:16:41. > :16:46.have been stolen to order. If you know anything, get in touch.

:16:46. > :16:49.Time to look at today's wanted faces. First is this man, Constantin

:16:49. > :16:52.Apostol. He is wanted by police in connection with a number of

:16:52. > :16:57.burglaries in London and Essex. He is described as having greasy hair

:16:57. > :17:02.and a small scar on his left arm. Detectives in North Yorkshire want

:17:02. > :17:04.your help to find this man, Ashley Matthew Scott. He is wanted for

:17:04. > :17:11.questioning in connection with a burglary where more than 30,000

:17:11. > :17:14.worth of property was taken. He has tattooed of Angels on his leg and

:17:14. > :17:18.chest and is known to have connections in the Selby, Leeds and

:17:18. > :17:28.York areas. Next, Farhan Khan, who also goes by

:17:28. > :17:31.

:17:31. > :17:33.the name Pervez Umer Mirza. He was jailed for two years for conspiracy

:17:33. > :17:36.to defraud, but failed to keep to the conditions of his early release

:17:36. > :17:37.and is now wanted act in prison. He is described as being of heavy

:17:37. > :17:40.build, with connections to London and the Netherlands.

:17:40. > :17:45.Finally, look at this man, Danoto Juverdano. Have you seen him

:17:45. > :17:55.recently? He is wanted for questioning in connection with a

:17:55. > :18:01.

:18:01. > :18:03.burglary in London. Originally from Romania, he is not known to have any

:18:03. > :18:06.friends, work or family in this country, but frequents the bonnet

:18:06. > :18:08.area. He is sometimes unshaven and occasionally wears glasses. If you

:18:08. > :18:18.recognise any of these guys, get in touch.

:18:18. > :18:20.

:18:20. > :18:26.Still to come: help us find this man, caught on CCTV just before he

:18:26. > :18:36.stole 200 from an 84-year-old pensioner.

:18:36. > :18:42.

:18:42. > :18:44.If you are in London and you see a police helicopter in the sky, it

:18:44. > :18:47.will have come from here. There are three helicopters based here. PC

:18:47. > :18:49.Tony Donnelly regularly flies with the fleet. And very expensive kit it

:18:49. > :18:52.is, too. It is about 5 million worth of equipment. We have a

:18:52. > :19:02.digital downlink and uplink system, so it can be pictures from and to

:19:02. > :19:03.

:19:03. > :19:10.the aircraft. We have night some. It can light up a large area. Then we

:19:10. > :19:20.have a try censored camera. Full colour TV camera. A telescope and a

:19:20. > :19:28.

:19:28. > :19:31.thermal imaging camera. And plenty inside as well? The camera feeds

:19:31. > :19:34.inside to the screens here. It is all touchscreen technology, so I can

:19:34. > :19:37.have the TV camera or the moving map. And I can tie the map to the

:19:37. > :19:39.camera, so I can type in an address, and the camera will look at

:19:39. > :19:45.that address. And you do this every day. What would you say your best

:19:45. > :19:51.job has been? The best jobs are the missing people jobs, when you find

:19:51. > :19:56.them and you know your search has assisted the police and you have

:19:56. > :20:05.either saved somebody's life or found somebody's relative. Let's

:20:05. > :20:11.look again. So you on the map there. I can put in a target and then skew

:20:11. > :20:13.the camera to the exact address we are looking at. We spent a day in

:20:13. > :20:17.the skies above central London with the crew of one of the helicopters

:20:18. > :20:22.based here. High above the streets of London,

:20:22. > :20:28.the sky police are on patrol. They can follow anything happening below

:20:28. > :20:33.and capture it on camera. It down speed in excess of 100 miles an

:20:33. > :20:41.hour. The Met Police by chopper had no problem following this speeding

:20:41. > :20:47.motorbike. Left, northbound. He is pulling over. He has switched his

:20:47. > :20:57.lights off. Three, two, one, now. was not long before the driver was

:20:57. > :20:59.

:20:59. > :21:04.stopped by the cops on the ground. Meet India 99, 6 million worth of

:21:04. > :21:09.helicopter. There are another two like it in the fleet. Each has a

:21:09. > :21:17.crew of three. Using the latest technology, they can police exactly

:21:17. > :21:22.what is going on beneath them. name is PC Brad Franklin. I am an

:21:22. > :21:27.air observer attached to the support unit. The job is to fly in the

:21:27. > :21:31.aircraft and assist police on the ground with their jobs. Brad sits at

:21:31. > :21:36.the back of the chopper will stop his job is to make tactical

:21:36. > :21:41.decisions based on the maps and CCTV beamed onto the screens in front of

:21:41. > :21:46.him. The unit is on constant stand-by, and the callouts can be

:21:46. > :21:48.diverse, from vehicle pursuits to suspect searches. Much of their

:21:48. > :21:56.day-to-day work involves looking for vulnerable people who have gone

:21:56. > :22:00.missing. A call has come in. There is a search for an old man who is

:22:00. > :22:07.missing from a local hospital. The helicopter crew can search faster

:22:07. > :22:13.than anybody on the ground. A keen eye is vital. PC Chris Gould, who

:22:13. > :22:18.sits next to the pilot, is operating the powerful camera, which has a

:22:18. > :22:23.sophisticated zoom. It can pick up object which are miles away. The

:22:23. > :22:27.team think the man may have wandered into these woods, but even with the

:22:27. > :22:35.best view in the house, it is difficult to see through thick tree

:22:35. > :22:39.cover. Some of these tree areas are too dense. They are working with

:22:39. > :22:48.officers on the ground at all times. Brad decides a dog would search more

:22:48. > :22:51.effectively on this occasion. was a negative result, but it is

:22:51. > :22:59.also positive, because that area has been ticked off and we can look to

:22:59. > :23:04.move resources elsewhere to find the person. The team can't do any more

:23:04. > :23:09.to help here, but a call comes in that a man has been spotted with a

:23:09. > :23:19.knife in a park in east London. This is just five minutes away, and India

:23:19. > :23:29.99 is on the case. There are two males with knives, who have put them

:23:29. > :23:33.down their trousers. One man with a T-shirt and an Afro. It is a sunny

:23:33. > :23:41.day. There are a lot of people in the park. So first, we have to try

:23:41. > :23:51.to identify the group with what was a sketchy description. That group,

:23:51. > :23:52.

:23:52. > :24:02.do you reckon? What did they just pass? They can hear the helicopter

:24:02. > :24:07.overhead. We will see what we can do. He passed something to that guy,

:24:07. > :24:13.but I didn't see what it was. think this is the man with the

:24:13. > :24:18.knife. The chase is on. He has taken his cap off and route his wood,

:24:18. > :24:21.which changes his appearance. were aware of our presence. We are

:24:21. > :24:26.obviously quite audible, so they were moving away from the group and

:24:26. > :24:36.going under tree cover, trying to change their clothing and basically

:24:36. > :24:37.

:24:37. > :24:44.trying to make it as difficult for us as possible. Running. He has a

:24:44. > :24:49.couple of police officers behind him. Then they started to run and it

:24:50. > :24:53.was not too difficult for us to control. The group split up, and

:24:53. > :25:03.working with officers on the ground, India 99 is able to guide them to

:25:03. > :25:07.

:25:07. > :25:12.two of the men. We have a discarded kitchen knife. If someone is in a

:25:12. > :25:16.park with lots of members of the public and is in possession of a

:25:16. > :25:26.large kitchen knife, it is quite scary. So too have been part of that

:25:26. > :25:30.

:25:30. > :25:34.arrest is satisfying. Although the team at Lippits Hill rarely get to

:25:34. > :25:41.handcuff criminals, they play a key role in keeping the streets of

:25:41. > :25:44.London safe. I have come into the control room,

:25:44. > :25:52.the nerve centre of the operation. I am joined by Inspector original

:25:52. > :25:55.Brandon, who runs things around here. It is a big operation. We have

:25:55. > :26:00.three helicopters and 48 members of staff that deliver this air support

:26:00. > :26:04.service to London. I have to ask, is it a case of boys and their toys?

:26:04. > :26:08.Although I know some women work here. There is certainly a great

:26:08. > :26:15.deal of pleasure gained from flying helicopters, but we have three

:26:15. > :26:22.female observers that add to our team. I am sure it is a lot of

:26:22. > :26:26.people's dream job. Tony gave me a run through of how it works. So this

:26:27. > :26:30.shot is from a helicopter which took off in our opening link. This is a

:26:30. > :26:34.live shot coming from our helicopter. One of the benefits is

:26:34. > :26:40.that we can broadcast the pictures live from the aircraft into control

:26:40. > :26:45.rooms. Today Mr, ask the aircraft if they can pan right and zoom in to

:26:45. > :26:50.the top of the Shard? We can talk to the helicopter and guide what the

:26:50. > :26:54.camera shows us. This has a benefit to officers on the ground, because

:26:54. > :27:01.it allows them to make tactical decisions and deploy officers

:27:01. > :27:04.appropriate Lee. So you have this screen here, but the screen is

:27:04. > :27:07.showing the same pictures at different units across the

:27:07. > :27:12.Metropolitan force? Every control room in London is getting this live

:27:12. > :27:16.feed. So as we work with the helicopter, those pictures are

:27:16. > :27:20.coming into every control room, allowing them to make decisions.

:27:20. > :27:25.have you seen a difference since using this? It must have been

:27:25. > :27:29.developed over time. We have always had the camera capability. This

:27:29. > :27:32.digital downlink allows us to put near broadcast quality teachers into

:27:32. > :27:38.both hand-held receivers on the street as well as control rooms. It

:27:38. > :27:44.has made a huge difference to policing. We can see the Shard,

:27:44. > :27:48.which we all recognise, in central London. But you often have to look

:27:48. > :27:52.at people 's homes if dealing with neighbourhood crime, and that is

:27:52. > :27:56.noisy. It is noisy, and we accept that. We try to fly at height and be

:27:56. > :28:00.as neighbourly as we can. We don't get many complaints, but I do

:28:00. > :28:04.respond personally to all who complain. I explain what we are

:28:04. > :28:10.doing, and most of the time, they appreciate the work we do. We do

:28:10. > :28:12.also have a Twitter feed if you would like to follow us. That gives

:28:12. > :28:20.up-to-date information on what that helicopter is doing hovering over

:28:20. > :28:23.your house. So you talk to the general public. Thank you so much.

:28:23. > :28:25.It has been fascinating in the control room, seeing how it is all

:28:25. > :28:29.put together. Now, having your stuff nicked can be

:28:29. > :28:35.getting, but most things can be replaced. But imagine if your pet

:28:35. > :28:39.was stolen. Dog mapping is on the rise. We are joined by Lucy and her

:28:39. > :28:48.dog or B, who himself was recently dognapped. I am pleased to see him

:28:48. > :28:54.here, but tell us what happened 's we took Bobby to my parents ' house,

:28:54. > :28:59.and left him and his brother with them while we were on holiday.

:28:59. > :29:04.while we were on holiday, they were taken from my parents' garden.

:29:04. > :29:11.you think they were taken to order. Massive panic for you guys. What did

:29:11. > :29:14.you do? Firstly, we contacted Dog Lost, who put their profiles on

:29:14. > :29:20.their website, and they advised us on what to do to get them back. We

:29:20. > :29:24.informed the police and the vets and dog homes, and there were posters

:29:24. > :29:34.all around Dorset. We put lots of things on Facebook and we even put a

:29:34. > :29:36.

:29:36. > :29:42.video on new chip. We also advertised a reward. We said we

:29:42. > :29:47.would give 2000. You got a phone call a couple of days later, which

:29:47. > :29:50.was strange. Somebody said, I have just bought two border Terrier

:29:50. > :29:55.puppies, I have had them for a couple of days, and I have just

:29:55. > :30:01.figured out they stolen, and they are yours, so I will bring them

:30:01. > :30:05.back. We found it a bit suspicious, because he had only just found the

:30:05. > :30:12.tags, and if he had had them for a couple of days, he would have seen

:30:12. > :30:16.them straightaway. He was keen to get the reward money. It did not

:30:16. > :30:21.seem like the good Samaritan, perhaps. You have done everything

:30:21. > :30:26.right, the dog has been micro-chipped, and that is how you

:30:26. > :30:33.got them back eventually, but this is making cue nervous, because you

:30:33. > :30:38.do not want to lose him again. does run off, somebody could be

:30:38. > :30:41.waiting to carry him off again, it makes it not as pleasant and

:30:41. > :30:48.experience, to note there are people who would just take him without

:30:48. > :30:53.thinking. The thieves did not even know that one of the dogs had a

:30:53. > :30:58.heart condition, so needed medication. Yes, he is on

:30:58. > :31:05.beta-blockers, and he could not access them for four days. Luckily,

:31:05. > :31:15.he was fine. The main thing, they are back with their owners. He is

:31:15. > :31:15.

:31:15. > :31:19.having a lovely time! We need everybody's help, the police

:31:19. > :31:27.do, they are trying to catch a thief who conned his way into an elderly

:31:27. > :31:31.woman's house. The is some disturbing CCTV.

:31:31. > :31:41.The man at the door tells the woman she owes him money for work he has

:31:41. > :32:03.

:32:03. > :32:13.upstairs. He steals her purse and 200, leaving the woman confused and

:32:13. > :32:16.

:32:16. > :32:21.Paul Murray is leading this investigation. We have got some

:32:21. > :32:26.clear CCTV, it not only shows the face, but it is good in terms of the

:32:26. > :32:31.conversation that was recorded. This is down to a neighbour of this

:32:31. > :32:37.lady, putting a camera in the house, following an incident earlier in the

:32:37. > :32:43.year, where a man had stolen some money. Are you certain this is the

:32:43. > :32:46.same man, come back again? Yes, in the similarities of approach.

:32:46. > :32:52.first occasion, he claimed to have carried out some repairs on the

:32:52. > :32:56.house, and asked her for some money. The same thing happened on the

:32:56. > :33:01.second occasion. It is a despicable thing to happen. Let's go through

:33:01. > :33:08.the description, we have got a picture of him here. Let's run

:33:08. > :33:13.through that. We think he is middle-aged, white, he was wearing a

:33:13. > :33:20.grey baseball cap, he is dressed in a grey tracksuit top and bottom is,

:33:20. > :33:27.and he is wearing sunglasses. a London accent. If you recognise

:33:27. > :33:31.this man or know anything about him, please get in touch. It is time for

:33:31. > :33:36.a quick appeal that needs your help. North Wales Police have asked us to

:33:36. > :33:40.help with a theft that happened in Colwyn Bay. A bronze sculpture was

:33:40. > :33:45.stolen from the Bay Gallery at the Bay View Centre sometime between 8pm

:33:45. > :33:51.on the 1st of April and 6am the next day. You can see it here, a solid

:33:51. > :33:57.runs, two foot tall, unique sculpture, and the owner is

:33:57. > :34:02.desperate to get it back. It is worth 2000. Did you see anybody

:34:02. > :34:10.acting suspiciously? It might have been stolen for scrap. Maybe you

:34:10. > :34:17.have been offered it in terms just like in exchange for cash. Now, more

:34:17. > :34:22.criminals caught on candid camera. End of November. This man takes a

:34:22. > :34:27.seat on the top deck of this London bus, heading to Clapham. When he

:34:27. > :34:32.decides to get off the bus, something catches his eye. He leans

:34:32. > :34:37.over and takes it off the empty seat. What has he got? Look at his

:34:37. > :34:44.hand as he takes the stairs. He has picked up someone's wallet. And off

:34:44. > :34:52.he goes. Who is he? Do you know him?

:34:52. > :34:57.Norwich, in July last year. One of these men is paying a great deal of

:34:57. > :35:03.attention to camera equipment worth more than 1000. He is removing the

:35:03. > :35:11.security tag whilst the other man watches on. Halfway through their

:35:11. > :35:15.disturbed and they move away. But then, they come back to finish the

:35:15. > :35:24.job. He picks up the expensive camera and dropped it into his

:35:24. > :35:30.friend's carrier bag. Let's see that again. Let's catch these two as

:35:30. > :35:36.quick as a flash. This one is a huge assault, but he

:35:36. > :35:43.is still needing catching. Watch the man in the hat. Although he is

:35:43. > :35:47.waiting in line, he is actually here to rob the bank. Now, he is at the

:35:47. > :35:51.counter, telling the cashier he has got a gun. He leaves with three

:35:51. > :35:59.grand. Here he is again, months later, at another in Middlesex. He

:35:59. > :36:05.walks over claims to have a gun, and asks the cash. The same month,

:36:05. > :36:12.different bank. Again, it is the same story. Altogether, he robbed

:36:12. > :36:21.eight banks over three months, stealing a total of 11,000. Do you

:36:21. > :36:29.recognise this bearded bandit? Give us a call. Call us if you recognise

:36:29. > :36:39.anyone, or text us. You can also e-mail. Remember, you

:36:39. > :36:41.

:36:41. > :36:45.can always call Crimestoppers It is blackmail next, a horrible

:36:45. > :36:49.crime, and police in Croydon are hunting for a man who has been

:36:49. > :36:54.targeting foreign students. He tells them they will be deported unless

:36:54. > :36:57.they hand over cash. Foreigners who come to study in

:36:57. > :37:03.London should feel secure in their host city. But to students who

:37:03. > :37:13.became the Vic terms of blackmail have felt anything but. This is the

:37:13. > :37:17.man who is doing it, police need to catch him. This man is 22 and comes

:37:18. > :37:23.from Pakistan. He has been studying for a postgraduate diploma in

:37:23. > :37:28.business studies since 2011. He is played by an actor, he is too

:37:28. > :37:34.frightened to be identified. He paid this blackmail almost 1500. If he

:37:34. > :37:38.had refused to pay up, the Cook told him he would be deported. November

:37:38. > :37:44.last year, and he was at his part-time job at a butcher shop in

:37:44. > :37:48.is London. The blackmailer walked in, he said his name was Imran, he

:37:48. > :37:53.told him that his wallet had been stolen and asked if he could borrow

:37:53. > :37:58.8 to pay for a bus ticket back home to Sheffield. But it was all a pack

:37:58. > :38:02.of lies. He believed him, and he lent him the money. Imran then told

:38:02. > :38:12.him he might be able to get him shifts at the Royal mail, where he

:38:12. > :38:13.

:38:13. > :38:20.worked. He then left. Days later, he received a call. Imran wanted to

:38:20. > :38:24.meet him. He had good news about the job. But the venue was outside

:38:24. > :38:28.Croydon's UK Border Agency offices, and the bombshell, Imran did not

:38:28. > :38:36.work for the Royal mail after all, he said he worked for the Home

:38:36. > :38:40.Office, and that he was at risk of deportation. All lies. The way that

:38:40. > :38:43.the suspect operates, he persuaded the man to meet him outside the

:38:43. > :38:47.immigration offices, where he told him he was under surveillance, and

:38:47. > :38:53.if he did not pay him a large amount of money, he would be deported and

:38:53. > :38:58.arrested. Believing Imran to be genuine, and scared he would be

:38:58. > :39:06.deported, he withdrew 500 in cash and handed it over. But later that

:39:06. > :39:15.day, Imran rang again to demand a further 500 to avoid arrest. He was

:39:15. > :39:22.being blackmailed. He is not the only foreign student based in London

:39:22. > :39:28.targeted by this man. Police believe he has extorted a huge 9,000 from

:39:28. > :39:34.another foreign student, spinning the same lies. The blackmailer

:39:34. > :39:38.continued to pester him over the phone. He handed over a further 450

:39:38. > :39:43.before he broke under the pressure and told his friend is Lamott had

:39:43. > :39:48.been going on. He looked really down, I asked him if there was

:39:48. > :39:55.anything wrong with him, and he said, there is nothing wrong, but

:39:55. > :39:59.after that, he started crying. asked him what was up, and he said,

:40:00. > :40:06.somebody has come to him. The incident has had a profound effect

:40:06. > :40:09.on him. This man has taken advantage of a vulnerable person who was

:40:09. > :40:15.worried about how the police or his friends would react when he told

:40:15. > :40:25.them about what had happened. This has lost a lot of money, and he has

:40:25. > :40:29.lost his confidence. It has had a massive impact on him.

:40:29. > :40:34.This man calls himself Imran, what else to you know about him? He is an

:40:34. > :40:40.Asian male in his late 20s, early 30s, he speaks English, but he has

:40:41. > :40:44.told his victims he is from Pakistan and he speaks fluent Urdu. He makes

:40:44. > :40:50.the initial approach in English, but then he speaks to them in Urdu to

:40:50. > :40:55.win their trust. What can you tell us about the other victim? It is a

:40:55. > :41:01.student as well, he did not reported to the police for about a month, and

:41:01. > :41:09.he lost 9,000. They are bona fides students, they have got every right

:41:09. > :41:14.to be in the country? Yes, they are studying legally. We can hear the

:41:14. > :41:17.helicopter up ahead, we will see more about that in a moment. In

:41:17. > :41:24.terms of the officers and the official authorities, they would

:41:24. > :41:27.never approach anybody in this way, asking for money for a visa? Yes,

:41:27. > :41:31.this man has targeted vulnerable individuals who have not been aware

:41:31. > :41:36.of how the system works, they might have been isolated from friends and

:41:36. > :41:41.family. It has had a terrible impact. You feel there could be

:41:41. > :41:47.other victims? Yes, I would urge any victims to come forward and tell the

:41:47. > :41:52.police. Do get in touch if you know. We will find out more about the

:41:52. > :41:57.helicopter in just a moment. Time for a quick update, yesterday we

:41:58. > :42:02.featured those terrible sex assaults in Canning Town, police tell us they

:42:02. > :42:08.are looking into two possible new leads, but they need more calls, so

:42:08. > :42:15.please do get in touch. We showed CCTV of a woman shopping

:42:15. > :42:21.with what they believe are stolen cards, police are following up some

:42:21. > :42:25.brilliant information, so thank you. Where are you going to be tomorrow?

:42:25. > :42:32.Tomorrow, we are going to be in west London, on the Trail of uninsured

:42:32. > :42:36.cars and vans, and also, some unbelievable CCTV footage of thugs

:42:36. > :42:43.who attacked a GP on his own driveway. They need catching, those

:42:43. > :42:51.guys. Join us tomorrow, good eye. If you want to see our CCTV again, head
