:00:16. > :00:26.Student nurse Stephanie comes face-to-face with an armed drugs

:00:26. > :00:43.

:00:43. > :00:46.live every day for the next four weeks. We've already had loads of

:00:46. > :00:56.calls on the cases featured yesterday. Now we want your help

:00:56. > :01:03.again to track down more criminals. On the programme today: A terrifying

:01:03. > :01:09.case of mistaken identity. The bag snatcher saw violent he broke this

:01:10. > :01:16.woman's fingers. And a room with a view. We go behind-the-scenes at one

:01:16. > :01:19.of Britain's most high-tech police control rooms. The roadshow team is

:01:20. > :01:27.travelling the country, and today is their second day in South Wales,

:01:27. > :01:31.this time in Bridgend with police forces. What is happening there?

:01:31. > :01:40.am in the training centre with Dandy, the longest serving police

:01:40. > :01:45.force here. Last night, he was out helping at a performance. He deals

:01:45. > :01:54.with all sorts of situations, from screaming fans to full-scale riots.

:01:54. > :01:58.Later I will find out what makes him unflappable. First, the stuff of

:01:58. > :02:07.nightmares. Imagine waking to find armed men in your house. That is

:02:07. > :02:11.what happened in February two young from Swansea. Stephanie, a student

:02:11. > :02:19.nurse, was exhausted after returning late one night from her job at a

:02:19. > :02:29.local hospital. It's really hard. You don't stop from the moment you

:02:29. > :02:32.

:02:33. > :02:40.get in until the moment you finish. I got in at 10:30pm. I read a book

:02:40. > :02:50.and had a piece of toast and I went to bed about midnight. But she would

:02:50. > :02:56.

:02:56. > :03:05.o'clock in the morning, and there was this almighty noise, I could not

:03:05. > :03:08.describe it at the time. I heard voices in the house. She crept to

:03:08. > :03:16.the top of the stairs. She was about to come face-to-face with her worst

:03:16. > :03:23.nightmare. The light went on, and I realised there was something. He had

:03:23. > :03:31.his face is covered. I could not really see him, and he was carrying

:03:31. > :03:38.a hammer. Already terrified, she was dragged downstairs. There was a

:03:38. > :03:48.second man in the living room. kept shouting about giving them the

:03:48. > :03:55.green, I did not know what the green is. It is normally street speak for

:03:55. > :03:58.cannabis. Stephanie was trapped in her home by two armed men who seemed

:03:58. > :04:08.convinced she was some kind of drug dealer. They just would not listen

:04:08. > :04:09.

:04:09. > :04:16.to her pleas. Her ordeal was about to become even more frightening.

:04:17. > :04:26.did go upstairs with one of them. He called me up with him. I felt

:04:26. > :04:32.powerless. It was one woman against two men. I thought they could hurt

:04:32. > :04:37.me or even kill me. It sounds very dramatic but two men in my house,

:04:37. > :04:41.you know? You do not know what people are capable of.

:04:41. > :04:47.eventually realised they had got it wrong. Stephanie was no drug dealer.

:04:47. > :04:51.But they were not going to leave empty-handed. They did not find any

:04:51. > :04:57.drugs but rather than waste the fact that they had broken in, they stole

:04:57. > :05:04.whatever they could get their hands on. They ran off with her bag and

:05:04. > :05:12.phone. The incident lasted just 20 minutes. It did not seem long but in

:05:12. > :05:16.a situation like that it is forever. She could not even phone for help.

:05:16. > :05:23.went to get my phone, I did not realise they had taken it, to try

:05:23. > :05:30.and get some help. That had gone. Then I was going to grab my bag, see

:05:30. > :05:38.if I could get some money for a taxi, that had gone. In desperation,

:05:38. > :05:45.she went outside to look for help. These CCTV images captured the

:05:45. > :05:50.moment she raced into the street to flag down a passing car. The car

:05:50. > :05:56.stopped and the driver took her to her parents house. Her mum was

:05:56. > :06:05.shocked to see the state she was in. I don't think anybody deserves to go

:06:05. > :06:09.through something like that. It is just a really awful experience.

:06:10. > :06:15.it could have been so much worse. On any other day, Stephanie's

:06:15. > :06:18.five-year-old daughter could have unit home. It was just a matter of

:06:18. > :06:22.luck that she was with her grandparents.

:06:22. > :06:32.We are just lucky that the grandchildren did not witness these

:06:32. > :06:32.

:06:32. > :06:39.men. You can imagine how scary it would have been. The one thing I am

:06:39. > :06:48.thankful for is she was not there. She would never have been the same

:06:48. > :06:53.again. To unknown men walking round your house for 30 minutes in the

:06:53. > :06:57.middle of the night, I cannot imagine how that would have been.

:06:57. > :07:04.She would find it very traumatic. It has had a lasting effect on her and

:07:04. > :07:11.it probably will for some time. will check every door at ten times

:07:11. > :07:21.to make sure it is locked before I go to bed. I will make sure nobody

:07:21. > :07:28.

:07:28. > :07:35.is lurking outside. If anybody hurts her, it is terrible. DC Dave Welham

:07:35. > :07:38.is with me. This was a shocking attack. That's right. Stephanie

:07:38. > :07:44.found it a shocking experience, and she is frightened to live in her own

:07:44. > :07:48.home. You believe this could be a case of mistaken identity.

:07:48. > :07:52.Definitely. We believe they have gone in looking for drugs, possibly

:07:52. > :07:58.cannabis, but there is nothing to suggest Stephanie had any at her

:07:58. > :08:07.address. There was a good Samaritan who took Stephanie to her mothers

:08:08. > :08:11.house. -- mother's eyes. You want to track down this good Samaritan.

:08:11. > :08:17.Definitely. Her phone was stolen so she could not phone the police.

:08:17. > :08:22.Possibly this driver has seen somebody come from the address, he

:08:22. > :08:28.may be the key to finding out who these people are. Not only did he

:08:28. > :08:38.help Stephanie but he could be vital to the investigation. Definitely. If

:08:38. > :08:46.

:08:46. > :08:50.you feel you can help, please call CCTV. -- caught. These two

:08:50. > :08:57.sightseers and their dog are taking a great interest in the local arts

:08:57. > :09:01.scene in Penzance. Woman is drawn to a piece of pottery between those two

:09:02. > :09:08.black jugs on the sideboard. What you cannot see clearly is that she

:09:08. > :09:13.picks it up and picks it -- puts it in her bag. She walks off and it has

:09:13. > :09:19.vanished. We've got to have a look at that. Least believe the couple

:09:19. > :09:29.visited Fort galleries and items were stolen. -- the police believe

:09:29. > :09:42.

:09:42. > :09:48.you recognise these leaves? -- these a clothes shop in Covent Garden.

:09:48. > :09:54.This customer is not interested in the latest fashion. He said the shop

:09:54. > :10:02.owner to look for a court downstairs. He then nets behind the

:10:02. > :10:12.counter and helps himself to 170 in cash, then time for a swift exit. Do

:10:12. > :10:16.

:10:16. > :10:20.you know this man? Give us a call if this London bus. One is standing in

:10:20. > :10:26.front of a victim and one behind. The man standing behind him reaches

:10:27. > :10:30.into the pocket while the other man drops money on the floor. They push

:10:30. > :10:37.the victim towards the accomplice. Let's see it again in slow motion.

:10:37. > :10:44.Crafty. As soon as they get the wallet, which has 150 on it, they

:10:44. > :10:54.scarper off the bus before it leaves. Do you know these men? Give

:10:54. > :11:04.us a call. If you can help with any of those crimes, you can call us.

:11:04. > :11:14.

:11:15. > :11:22.You can also text us. You can also Police's longest serving police

:11:22. > :11:29.force. One of the instructors and officers here, you have had him a

:11:29. > :11:36.long time, haven't you? We have. He has been a police force for 13

:11:36. > :11:41.years. He is due to retire very soon. Getting a well earned rest. He

:11:41. > :11:50.is very busy. We know that he polices pop concerts. What else does

:11:50. > :11:55.he do? It is very varied, the role of the mounted police officer. It

:11:55. > :12:01.can be a school visit, football match, everyday patrols around

:12:01. > :12:07.Cardiff, issuing tickets for traffic offences. So he needs to be

:12:07. > :12:13.protected for that. Ridiculously in crowd, he needs to wear special kit.

:12:13. > :12:18.Shall we have a look at the things you put onto him? At football

:12:19. > :12:23.matches we put on the guard. That goes over his nose. Then the visor.

:12:23. > :12:32.That will go over his eyes to protect his eyes. That is important

:12:32. > :12:39.to protect his face. His legs are protected by the guard. They protect

:12:39. > :12:45.down to the bottom there. So that protects the whole leg. I understand

:12:45. > :12:51.there is even something for his feet. Yes, he has these boot for --

:12:51. > :12:57.these boots for his feet. It must take time before you head out on

:12:57. > :13:04.patrol to get him ready. Yes, it does. We wear sheets, very smart

:13:04. > :13:08.when they go out on patrol. They do, and I know you think a lot of Danby.

:13:09. > :13:14.He is one of the family here. He will have a well-deserved

:13:14. > :13:21.retirement. Later, I will be finding out how he saw one flammable in

:13:21. > :13:29.those crowds. -- however he is so unflappable. There is definitely an

:13:29. > :13:37.animal theme because I have some feathered friends in the studio. I

:13:37. > :13:44.am joined by John Haywood. This is an awful story. Tell us what

:13:44. > :13:54.happened. We own a pet shop, me and my sons. Within that I have my own

:13:54. > :13:56.

:13:56. > :14:01.parrot. It is not the pet shop's parrot, it is mine. About 11:15am,

:14:01. > :14:08.just before Christmas, the door got broken into and they got stolen. The

:14:08. > :14:14.way they were stolen, you will see the CCTV, you will see how

:14:14. > :14:19.traumatised these birds were. see a van pull up, this is your

:14:19. > :14:23.shop, with your pets inside, they force open the door, and it is

:14:23. > :14:30.pretty shocking what happens now, I must say. That is one of the birds

:14:30. > :14:39.flapping around, going mad. They have thrown him in the back of the

:14:39. > :14:48.van. It must be terrifying for those animals. If anybody knows the

:14:48. > :14:54.whereabouts, please get in touch. I want them back. The sad fact is this

:14:54. > :14:58.is not an isolated incident. You have seen these a few times. Last

:14:59. > :15:04.year we dealt with 20 cases of this type. The majority were Avery is or

:15:04. > :15:08.domestic houses, but this is the most cruel and wicked crime I have

:15:08. > :15:18.ever come across. The actual violence shown towards these

:15:18. > :15:19.

:15:19. > :15:24.beautiful birds is dreadful. We need to. Is there any thing people can do

:15:25. > :15:29.at home if they all these animals? The majority of parrots are

:15:29. > :15:36.endangered and there is always demand. They deserve and need as

:15:36. > :15:39.much protection as possible. Houses and shops should be alarmed and

:15:39. > :15:49.birds should be identifiable, with rings on their feet. Micro-chipped

:15:49. > :15:56.or registered. That is something that is very cheap to do? Yes, just

:15:56. > :16:01.if you pounce. Microchips can be done for just if you pounce, and

:16:01. > :16:09.that is well recommended. Parrots, in particular, should be positively

:16:09. > :16:15.identifiable. You really want them back, they are characters? Henry, he

:16:15. > :16:24.would sit on your shoulder and chat and he was a very lovely bird. Like

:16:24. > :16:29.this bird? As you can see, he was just the same, Rosie would stay

:16:29. > :16:36.mainly in her cage and she would whistle and give kisses, she would

:16:36. > :16:43.say, I love you. Only things that I taught these birds to say. I really

:16:43. > :16:51.hope that they are OK and we can help you. Thank you both very much.

:16:51. > :16:59.Hopefully, someone will know something. Still to come... Help

:16:59. > :17:04.police catch this bag stature before he does it again. And the young

:17:04. > :17:12.woman who still hundreds of pounds from an 88-year-old, do you

:17:12. > :17:19.recognise? -- recognise her? This is the high-tech nerve centre, one of

:17:19. > :17:28.the most moderate in the country and open last year. -- opened. Alan

:17:28. > :17:34.Morgan, what is so special? This has been a lot of hard work and we can

:17:34. > :17:39.more effectively manage demand than ever before. We have desktop

:17:39. > :17:45.equipment and superb screens, we can manage city centre routines or

:17:45. > :17:50.downlink from helicopters. This room handles emergency calls and 101

:17:50. > :17:54.calls next door. Those screens are very important? They are so

:17:54. > :18:01.important, so much more beneficial for staff to see what is going on.

:18:01. > :18:06.We can map these resources, it is so much better. Thank you and we wanted

:18:06. > :18:13.to see how this works in action so we sent our cameras out on a Friday

:18:13. > :18:20.night. He has fallen off his fence and he is unconscious. What is your

:18:20. > :18:24.emergency? Crimewatch Roadshow has been getting exclusive access to the

:18:24. > :18:29.new control room in South Wales Police. With its state-of-the-art

:18:29. > :18:38.CCTV, tracking and medication technology, it is one of the best in

:18:38. > :18:42.the country. For one night, we placed cameras inside the control

:18:42. > :18:52.room and we were with officers on patrol to see how this facility

:18:52. > :18:53.

:18:53. > :18:58.serves the local community. Police will be with you shortly... 10pm.

:18:58. > :19:08.Sergeant Morgan and PC Andy Cogley are beginning their Friday night

:19:08. > :19:09.

:19:09. > :19:14.shift in Cardiff. Kerry is one of the deputy supervisors. It is her

:19:14. > :19:24.job to take control of the incident, once the staff have received the

:19:24. > :19:31.call. Within minutes of being on shift, the first call comes in. With

:19:31. > :19:37.the sirens wailing, officers head out to respond. Domestic between a

:19:37. > :19:41.man and a woman. We shall see what happens. Everything is being closely

:19:41. > :19:49.monitored by the rest of the control room staff. They will attend the

:19:49. > :19:56.address... They arrive at the address within minutes to

:19:56. > :20:03.investigate. Open the door! Be handlers have received a silent call

:20:03. > :20:06.from a mobile phone. The high-tech computer system has recognised the

:20:06. > :20:15.number and it belongs to a vulnerable woman who was recently

:20:15. > :20:22.attacked. But window might be global. -- might be open. They

:20:22. > :20:32.decide they have to get inside. There is no sign of any person on

:20:32. > :20:37.these premises. But there was no one home. We have gained entry to search

:20:37. > :20:43.this flat and make sure everything is fine. After some enquiries, they

:20:43. > :20:53.decide there was nothing left to do. Back in the control room and the

:20:53. > :20:57.

:20:57. > :21:07.next call is coming in. Someone has been knocking on my window...

:21:07. > :21:17.

:21:17. > :21:23.location, where a man is reported to have been banging on a window and

:21:23. > :21:29.the woman inside is frightened. Number five. We can see this on the

:21:29. > :21:39.screen. The officers arrived and immediately see a man walking along

:21:39. > :21:39.

:21:39. > :21:44.the street, looking worse for. you stinking of booze? Yes.The

:21:44. > :21:54.Portway is also stinking of booze. The police have shown that they have

:21:54. > :22:07.

:22:07. > :22:17.Where do you live? Where do you live? What street? What is your

:22:17. > :22:32.

:22:32. > :22:36.wear, has been trying to get the attention of the ground floor to see

:22:36. > :22:43.one of the other flats. We shall confirm it was not attempted

:22:43. > :22:51.burglary, he is drunk and has probably urinated. We will tell them

:22:51. > :22:57.to go away. Why would you knocking this window? Down there? It is

:22:57. > :23:02.disgusting. If we see you again, knocking on Windows, or in the

:23:02. > :23:12.street, we could arrest you for being drunk and disorderly. This is

:23:12. > :23:15.

:23:15. > :23:18.not it, OK? On your way, all right? I am sorry. Fine. The officers make

:23:18. > :23:26.sure the man is working away in the opposite direction and they head

:23:26. > :23:30.off. This was a typical night for the team. Close at hand to whatever

:23:30. > :23:38.the problem is. They will be out again tomorrow night, keeping peace

:23:38. > :23:46.on the streets of Cardiff. Impressive. This centre handles

:23:46. > :23:51.calls from 40% of the population of Wales, 1.25 million people. Anything

:23:51. > :23:58.from serious motorway pileups to murder. But not every call is

:23:58. > :24:04.urgent. You can get emergency calls and 101? What all the difference?

:24:04. > :24:10.They still confuses people. If this is an incident where we understand

:24:10. > :24:15.the response would be justifiable, and we need sirens, dial 999. If you

:24:15. > :24:25.don't want blue lights, call 101. It might just be an antisocial

:24:25. > :24:30.

:24:30. > :24:35.behaviour, you can call that number. In both cases, 101 and 999, they

:24:35. > :24:42.should be police related as this that is not always the case? We get

:24:42. > :24:47.all sorts of calls, enquiries about Chinese takeaway food, wanting

:24:47. > :24:57.Yellow Pages delivered. Yes, we could frankly do without that.

:24:57. > :25:16.

:25:16. > :25:20.Remarkable. Let's listen to a one, the second was 999. Truly

:25:20. > :25:29.shocking, and the demolition is to laugh at these, but the consequences

:25:29. > :25:32.can be very serious. Thank you. Unbelievable. Let's look at today's

:25:32. > :25:36.wanted faces and first up, 41-year-old Jonny Conners, and

:25:36. > :25:39.officers from the Met police want to speak to him in connection with a

:25:39. > :25:44.distraction burglary in which two men posed as water company officials

:25:44. > :25:48.to get into a man's home. He is from the travelling community and has

:25:48. > :25:54.connections to Essex and the London area but where is he? 21-year-old

:25:54. > :26:01.Raja Saddam Hussain, he failed to appear at Hyndburn Magistrates Court

:26:01. > :26:03.in April 2010. A warrant was issued. He was accused of being part of a

:26:03. > :26:10.group who attacked men on two separate occasions and still mobile

:26:10. > :26:15.phones. He is five tall and has eight Lancashire accent. Adrian

:26:15. > :26:21.Vasile, wanted for questioning by officers in three different police

:26:21. > :26:30.forces in connection with Eardley. He speaks with a Eastern European

:26:30. > :26:35.accent and has a tattooed on his left arm. -- burglary. He has

:26:35. > :26:39.connections in Cambridgeshire, Northampton and London. And finally,

:26:39. > :26:44.19-year-old Daniella Ghoghe you, she failed to appear at Eardley Crown

:26:44. > :26:50.Court last April and a warrant was issued. She is accused of robbing

:26:50. > :26:54.and pushing over a -- an elderly woman. Originally from Romania, she

:26:54. > :27:00.often uses different spellings of her surname. She is described as

:27:00. > :27:10.having a slight build with long, dark brown hair. If you recognise

:27:10. > :27:29.

:27:30. > :27:33.any of these people, pick up the appealing for information urgently

:27:33. > :27:38.about a theft that took place in the seaside town of Penarth near

:27:38. > :27:44.Cardiff. It involved and 88-year-old woman who had gone into the time to

:27:44. > :27:49.go to the bank and do shopping. We have CCTV footage and we can see a

:27:49. > :27:54.young woman entering the shop, and you can see the victim near the

:27:54. > :27:59.fridge, getting shopping. We can look from this angle. The woman

:27:59. > :28:03.leans down and take something out of her bag. And she turns around and

:28:03. > :28:10.leaves the shop. I am joined by Acting Chief Inspector, Susan

:28:10. > :28:15.Sidford. Despicable crime. This could happen to anybody. It has such

:28:15. > :28:22.an awful impact. What did the thieves get away with? The ladies

:28:22. > :28:29.handbag and the contents and she had 250 and they withdrew 220 from the

:28:29. > :28:38.nearby cashpoint. Was she followed? That is one of the lines of enquiry.

:28:38. > :28:47.There is an image of this young woman, can you describe her? Yes,
