:01:08. > :01:16.life full is not cracking down on the drug dealers, police make the
:01:16. > :01:20.shocking discovery of hundreds of needles amongst children's toys. The
:01:20. > :01:28.roadshow team is still out and about, and today is their last day
:01:28. > :01:33.with South Wales Police. What is going on? Today I'm in a garden
:01:33. > :01:39.centre at the foot of the South Wales Valleys. The reason I'm here
:01:39. > :01:44.is garden crime. If it is not tied down, thieves will run off with it.
:01:44. > :01:48.Everything from garden gnomes to pot plants to hanging baskets. They are
:01:48. > :01:55.all at risk. In this area there has been a spate of thefts of paving
:01:55. > :02:05.slabs from the museum, from People's patios, and from their drives.
:02:05. > :02:11.First, across the River Taff, in the shadow of this picturesque scene,
:02:11. > :02:20.lies the local village where they did not tolerate bad behaviour.
:02:20. > :02:25.the shadow of a fairytale castle lies this picturesque village. It is
:02:25. > :02:28.a tight-knit community and they like to look after each other. Peter
:02:28. > :02:36.brain and his father have been running the post office here for
:02:36. > :02:42.more than 20 years. They are part of the family. They never expected to
:02:42. > :02:46.be the victims of a serious crime. Things changed one freezing January
:02:46. > :02:50.morning as Peter was opening the post office. He had no idea he was
:02:50. > :02:54.being watched from across the street. An unknown man had been
:02:54. > :03:03.hanging around the area for some time and had been noticed by
:03:03. > :03:12.witnesses because of his unusual genes. (, came in, close the door,
:03:12. > :03:17.just as I was about to set the alarm, the door was barged open.
:03:17. > :03:23.Peter was face-to-face with a mass robber, and he was armed. He said he
:03:23. > :03:33.had a knife and he would use it. Peter had not had time to turn off
:03:33. > :03:34.
:03:34. > :03:44.the alarm. It panicked him, he was not prepared for that. Fortunately I
:03:44. > :03:45.
:03:45. > :03:51.had not unset it or things could have been difficult. He said a
:03:51. > :04:00.couple of times he would use the knife. He did nothing for a while,
:04:00. > :04:08.got frustrated. Refusing to give the thief any money, Peter reached for
:04:08. > :04:17.his own wallet. He grabbed the wallet, and I grabbed it back off
:04:17. > :04:22.him. I was not going to let him take it off me. As Peter fought inside,
:04:22. > :04:28.some local women heard the alarm going off, sprang into action and
:04:28. > :04:36.rang the police. They fought to keep the robber inside. Eventually the
:04:36. > :04:43.women were overpowered. Then another villager appeared on the scene.
:04:43. > :04:51.saw a black figure running out of the post office, being hit over the
:04:51. > :04:55.head by a lady who I knew, he was dressed very darkly, all in black,
:04:55. > :05:05.and his face was completely obscured. It was blatantly obvious
:05:05. > :05:12.that there had been a robbery. I stuck my Lego, I kicked his one leg
:05:12. > :05:18.behind him to bring him down. didn't stop this be for long.
:05:18. > :05:27.split second, he was running away. John did not give up, and gave
:05:27. > :05:31.chase. Another local, pensioner got involved. The local village chap hit
:05:31. > :05:39.him with his walking stick. Unfortunately he thought I was
:05:39. > :05:43.involved so he hit me as well. I lost my footing, it was very wet.
:05:43. > :05:48.The thief took advantage of the slippery road and made off down the
:05:48. > :05:53.hill. This was the last time he was seen. I realised he was already
:05:53. > :05:59.gaining on me. He was considerably younger than me. There was no way I
:05:59. > :06:06.was going to catch him. That in the post office, Peter was coming to
:06:06. > :06:11.terms with what had just happened. very violent crime, despicable, and
:06:11. > :06:17.has had a very big effect on Peter. The police would appeal for people
:06:17. > :06:24.not to get involved, for their own safety. If somebody is threatening
:06:24. > :06:28.them, do not get involved and put yourself in that situation. Anybody
:06:28. > :06:36.else would have done the same. was a violent incident. A meal with
:06:36. > :06:41.a knife demanding money. He was obviously desperate. We are anxious
:06:41. > :06:46.to identify this person. -- a man with a knife. It's important that he
:06:46. > :06:52.gets caught. He could do it again. It might be your neighbour next
:06:52. > :06:57.time, your friend, your relative. He needs to be stopped. It was an armed
:06:57. > :07:02.robbery, pure and simple. Somebody could have been hurt. Peter is back
:07:02. > :07:08.at work with his father. They have installed security measures to
:07:08. > :07:12.prevent this type of crime from happening again. The community have
:07:12. > :07:22.shown once more just how committed they are to looking after their own.
:07:22. > :07:29.I'm joined by Detective Sergeant Christine Cullen, leading the hunt
:07:29. > :07:36.for this man. He needs to be cot, doesn't he? He does. He needs to be
:07:36. > :07:44.brought to justice. He was seen hanging around for quite some time
:07:44. > :07:49.on that day, January 31. There were a number of witnesses saw him
:07:49. > :07:54.hanging around the village. He was in the bus stop. When the postmaster
:07:54. > :07:59.was parking his vehicle, he moved there. He obviously knew who he was
:07:59. > :08:08.looking for and spent a lot of time beforehand. You have any clues?Yes,
:08:08. > :08:14.we have the CCTV. Although he was disguising his appearance, he was
:08:14. > :08:19.wearing very distinctive trousers, which were paint splattered. We are
:08:19. > :08:23.looking for somebody who might recognise that clothing. Thank you.
:08:23. > :08:25.If you were there on January the 31st and you saw anyone hanging
:08:25. > :08:35.around wearing paint splattered trousers, you know the number to
:08:35. > :08:43.call. Now it's your chance to identify some more criminals
:08:43. > :08:48.captured on CCTV. And masked man enters this south then shop and
:08:48. > :08:51.heads for the till, pushing to customers out of the way. He
:08:51. > :08:59.threatened the shopkeeper with a knife and starts throwing cigarettes
:08:59. > :09:04.into a black bag. He is so keen to get its hands on those cigarettes,
:09:04. > :09:09.he puts his knife down on the counter. The shop assistant is so
:09:09. > :09:14.scared he cannot open the till. The offender tries to yank the till open
:09:14. > :09:21.but does not get anywhere. He makes a final grabbed at some cigarettes
:09:21. > :09:24.instead. The police have been alerted and arrive at the shop. The
:09:24. > :09:34.armed robber is making his getaway. They collide as he sprints out and
:09:34. > :09:41.
:09:41. > :09:46.one is knocked over. Do you know at the end of the year. This person
:09:46. > :09:50.has been playing on the machines. Something must have upset him. He
:09:50. > :09:57.grabs the chair. He heads towards the machines. Then he goes for the
:09:57. > :10:04.big chair. He smashes one machine but does not stop there. He moves on
:10:04. > :10:08.to the next one, and smashes that one as well. Can down, mate. He
:10:08. > :10:18.caused a massive 2000 worth of damage. Take a close look at his
:10:18. > :10:26.
:10:26. > :10:29.face. If you recognise this women are shopping. Or are they? One
:10:29. > :10:36.of them seems to distract the shop assistant by calling her to the
:10:36. > :10:43.other side of the shop. Her friend checked the coast is clear, then
:10:43. > :10:48.leaned over the counter, stealing the smart phone. She may think she
:10:48. > :10:55.got away with it, but I don't think she spotted the camera. Do you know
:10:55. > :11:05.her? Give us a call. If you know anything about those crimes, give us
:11:05. > :11:23.
:11:23. > :11:27.about 7 billion on our gardens. With that kind of money around,
:11:27. > :11:37.thieves are bound to want to get their hands on it. But it's not just
:11:37. > :11:39.
:11:39. > :11:47.big money items that are stolen. This couple love their garden.
:11:47. > :11:56.puts a spring into my step. It is my little utopia. This utopia has some
:11:56. > :12:02.colourful residents. They are lovingly handmade at home by Denise.
:12:02. > :12:09.I started to go to classes, that got me interested, then I decided to do
:12:09. > :12:13.it myself. I bought a little kiln. I've been doing it about 11 years.
:12:13. > :12:20.But the trouble with any kind of garden ornament that is not nailed
:12:20. > :12:28.down, they can be stolen. We were going out and you have me why move

:12:47. > :12:57.around, taking your staff, it is the way she walks in, helps herself, it
:12:57. > :12:58.
:12:58. > :13:03.could be absolutely anything. It just leaves you feeling very better.
:13:03. > :13:08.It feels the same as a burglary, even though they are and the Barker

:13:14. > :13:21.whatever appeals to them full is not we are looking for someone to find
:13:21. > :13:24.it. Julian and Denise are upset about this left, and the fact that
:13:24. > :13:29.someone was prowling around the garden, so please get in touch if
:13:29. > :13:34.you know anything. All sorts of things go missing from the garden,
:13:34. > :13:38.take a look at this tree, it is worth 500. That is the same as a
:13:38. > :13:44.good laptop. We would not leave a laptop hanging around the garden but
:13:44. > :13:53.with pot plants we do not have a choice. Need to know how we can
:13:53. > :13:58.protect them. Give us some advice on how to protect our pot plants.
:13:58. > :14:05.about making it really difficult for the thief to steal. Get heavy pots,
:14:05. > :14:10.the heavier the better. We have one down here. If you cannot, play some
:14:10. > :14:18.bricks in the base of the Pops. It makes it really difficult to be
:14:18. > :14:22.lifted. Bricks and stones. It is not only pots that get taken. People
:14:22. > :14:32.have been digging up plants and trees from gardens. How do we
:14:32. > :14:34.
:14:34. > :14:39.protect those? One thing we have got is chicken wire. If you place that
:14:39. > :14:43.around the base of the plant, it gets pegged down, put the soil and
:14:43. > :14:52.the compost on top of that. It makes it difficult to take the planned out
:14:52. > :14:59.of the soil. We have some beautiful hanging baskets here. They would be
:14:59. > :15:04.easy to steal. Yes, however, another cheap and easy way is to use a cable
:15:04. > :15:10.tie. Wrap that around the chain or the hook and the brackets and it is
:15:10. > :15:20.difficult to take off. Some garden centres and stores to sell lockable
:15:20. > :15:23.
:15:23. > :15:29.hanging baskets. So when we are putting our plants in the garden, we
:15:29. > :15:33.need to think about them not being stolen, too.
:15:33. > :15:36.I am joined by DS Peter Knight from Avon and Somerset Police who is
:15:36. > :15:43.urgently appealing for your help to find a youth who attacked a
:15:43. > :15:48.12-year-old girl. Tell us what happened. We have a young man who
:15:48. > :15:55.follows a 12-year-old girl from Bath town centre through the Royal
:15:55. > :16:05.Victoria Park to the outskirts of town. It is a very long way that he
:16:05. > :16:06.
:16:06. > :16:12.followed her. Yes, about a mile and a half, we believe. He tried could
:16:12. > :16:19.-- tried to conceal his identity with his jumper. We have obscured
:16:19. > :16:28.the girl for obvious reasons, but we get some good shots of him. He is
:16:28. > :16:38.trying to cover his face, but we do get a clue. Remind me of the date.
:16:38. > :16:45.
:16:45. > :16:49.her, but what happens away from the camera is pretty nasty, isn't it?
:16:49. > :16:59.Yes, he followed her to her doorstep, and he sexually assaulted
:16:59. > :17:05.her on her doorstep. There we go, we get a good shot of his face there.
:17:05. > :17:10.He is a male, believed of Asian appearance. He, too, is young. We

:17:26. > :17:34.a 12-year-old girl, this has affected her. It is very

:17:50. > :17:53.tracksuit bottoms, and trainers. Seeing these images, hopefully it
:17:53. > :18:01.will jog something in someone's memory about what happened that day

:19:12. > :19:20.members of the public, some through Crimestoppers, about drug dealing in
:19:20. > :19:24.the area. Today they are acting on that information. We are looking to

:19:38. > :19:47.is no hanging around, and these officers have no intention of using
:19:47. > :19:50.the doorbell. Police! They need to confirm whether there is anyone in

:20:58. > :21:03.there are drugs here, Murphy will here in the bedroom, and the suspect

:27:01. > :27:08.standing just yards away. The girls decided to try their luck flagging
:27:09. > :27:12.down a cab across the road, leaving Paul and down behind. We had asked
:27:12. > :27:17.three or four taxis if they were taken is home, but they said they
:27:17. > :27:23.were booked. I remember having my head right by a taxi, asking him if
:27:23. > :27:29.he would take us. Paul walked towards the taxi. The group of men
:27:29. > :27:34.thought they had jumped the queue, and squared up to down. I remember
:27:34. > :27:40.turning around, and I could see and speaking to a group of lads. It
:27:40. > :27:45.looked like it was getting a bit heated. The men surrounded Daniel,
:27:45. > :27:55.making it impossible for him to back off. Suddenly, one of them punched
:27:55. > :27:58.
:27:58. > :28:04.him. And they weren't finished. Now it was all's turn. It was a loud
:28:04. > :28:09.quite close to us, and there was a lot of shouting going on. I walked
:28:09. > :28:19.towards them and said, just calm down, stop shouting. I turned around
:28:19. > :28:23.again, and just caught this lad running past Paul, and just punched
:28:23. > :28:32.in the street in the face. Because I didn't see it coming, he knocked me
:28:32. > :28:38.out. He had no idea this guy was even coming at him. He ran up from
:28:38. > :28:47.behind, and ran off straightaway, he didn't even stop. I tried to run
:28:47. > :28:50.after him, so I didn't see Paul hit the floor. He was out cold.As I
:28:50. > :28:55.turned around, he was just on the floor, and he just wasn't saying
:28:55. > :29:04.anything. As he lay unconscious, the men turned their attention back to
:29:04. > :29:09.Daniel. One began attacking him with his belt. But Laura's main concern
:29:09. > :29:16.was her unconscious boyfriend. didn't really know what was going
:29:16. > :29:19.on. The man whipped Daniel with his belt over and over again. The
:29:19. > :29:25.attackers eventually gave up and ran off down Westgate Street. As they
:29:25. > :29:33.fled, Paul was still unconscious on the pavement. I thought he might
:29:33. > :29:43.have died. I had absolutely no idea. He didn't even have his eyes open. I
:29:43. > :29:52.was terrified, absolutely terrified. Talk, please!
:29:52. > :29:59.I just sat on the curb next to him. four weeks in hospital with serious
:29:59. > :30:05.head injuries requiring surgery for a bleed on the brain. I had
:30:05. > :30:10.fractures down the front of my face there and around there, and the
:30:10. > :30:15.infection from my I got into my brain. He had to have a section of
:30:15. > :30:22.his skull removed, and had to have more surgery to repair the damage.
:30:22. > :30:28.One punch to the head has changed my life. Seven months have gone by.
:30:28. > :30:32.From seven months, to me still sat here with my brain sticking out.
:30:32. > :30:35.Paul is a self-employed electrician. Because part of his skull is
:30:35. > :30:41.missing, it is not safe for him to work. He has relied on family and
:30:41. > :30:47.friends for support. It was also had a devastating effect on Paul and
:30:47. > :30:51.Laura's relationship, and they have now split up. It was a big change,
:30:51. > :30:57.going from him looking after me all the time, and we were just living
:30:57. > :31:04.together, to trying to manage everything for the both of us. Going
:31:04. > :31:14.to work, looking after him. It was a big change to happen in such a small
:31:14. > :31:16.
:31:16. > :31:24.who attacked Paul. We need to find him. We need to show what these
:31:24. > :31:31.assaults can do to people. I don't know how they'd feel if they
:31:31. > :31:34.realised they almost killed me. needs some closure. They might not
:31:34. > :31:40.realise what they have done. They might just think they had a bit of a
:31:40. > :31:49.laugh. They don't realise someone nearly died as a result of their
:31:49. > :31:53.actions. It would really mean a lot to find them. It is truly shocking
:31:53. > :32:00.what happened to Paul after that single punch. DI Lloyd Williams is
:32:00. > :32:03.with me. Somebody must have seen this attack. Yes, it's an extremely
:32:03. > :32:11.serious assault, I believe must have been witnessed I members of the
:32:11. > :32:18.public. It happened on Sunday the 28th of October. It runs alongside
:32:18. > :32:24.one of the busiest streets in Cardiff. There are taxi ranks, bus
:32:24. > :32:30.stops, fast-food joints, car parks. We are appealing for any witnesses,
:32:30. > :32:37.from around the UK if you were in the city centre that night. It is
:32:37. > :32:44.very busy in Cardiff, that part. Could it be somebody from across the
:32:44. > :32:49.UK who could have witnessed this? Definitely. People come from all
:32:49. > :32:55.over the UK to witness Cardiff. If you saw it get in touch. A serious
:32:55. > :33:00.attack. Perhaps, witnesses will not realise how serious. It might just
:33:00. > :33:07.seem like a normal fight. If you see the consequences, it adds a
:33:07. > :33:13.devastating effect. Paul now finds day-to-day things harder to do. Very
:33:13. > :33:22.serious injury. Belt was used in that attack on his friend as,
:33:22. > :33:30.perhaps that would jog your memory. Unusual to see that. Let's head back
:33:30. > :33:36.to those raids on suspected drug dealers in the South Wales Valleys.
:33:36. > :33:46.Earlier, we saw the officers giving drug dealers and early morning
:33:46. > :33:46.
:33:46. > :33:56.wake-up call. We are just minutes away from the next location. There
:33:56. > :34:06.
:34:06. > :34:08.could be class a drugs on this upstairs and downstairs. Nobody is
:34:08. > :34:18.home but the officers can immediately see obvious signs of
:34:18. > :34:22.
:34:22. > :34:32.drug use. This is the drug sniffing dog. It takes little time for him to
:34:32. > :34:38.
:34:38. > :34:43.detect a number of suspect items . It looks like young children stay at
:34:43. > :34:53.the house and police are shocked when they search the bedrooms.
:34:53. > :34:54.
:34:54. > :34:58.Packages with traces of brown powder which could be heroin. This contains
:34:58. > :35:05.used needles. Officers find hundreds of used needles in brooms which also
:35:05. > :35:15.contained children's ties. -- needles in rooms. This officer is
:35:15. > :35:17.
:35:17. > :35:27.shocked. It is quite scary when you see things like that. I am shocked.
:35:27. > :35:30.
:35:30. > :35:37.It is quite annoying. There are signs of drug use throughout these
:35:37. > :35:45.rooms, and a huge box of syringes which is quite shocking to see. Some
:35:45. > :35:50.of them are uncovered and surrounded by children's toys. The police soon
:35:50. > :35:58.make yet another discovery, a plastic bag with an unknown white
:35:58. > :36:04.powder inside full is not it could be any number of drugs, glucose, or
:36:04. > :36:13.other things. What are you going to do with that? This will be my
:36:13. > :36:22.exhibit, take possession of this, and it will be sent off for
:36:22. > :36:25.forensics analysis to tell us exactly what it is. Only time will
:36:25. > :36:34.tell whether anyone will be held responsible for what has been
:36:34. > :36:41.found. To bring you up to date, police are investigating their
:36:41. > :36:45.findings following those raids. One woman is on police bail after being
:36:45. > :36:49.arrested on suspicion of cannabis with intent to supply. Police are
:36:49. > :36:56.still looking for one man with regards to that white powder that
:36:56. > :37:06.was found in the house where there were needles among children's toys
:37:06. > :37:08.
:37:08. > :37:11.and top time to see if you can recognise any of these guys. This
:37:11. > :37:20.supermarket petrol forecourt, October last year. This car is
:37:20. > :37:27.stolen. We say it was taken along with two caravans. Cool as anything,
:37:27. > :37:32.the driver fills the car with 70 worth of fuel. Without batting an
:37:32. > :37:42.eyelid, he gets back into the car and drives off, making no attempt to
:37:42. > :37:43.
:37:43. > :37:50.pay. We need to catch him. Do you know who this is? It is midnight, in
:37:50. > :37:55.London. The woman is in the process of taking money out at the cash
:37:55. > :38:00.machine. All of a sudden, the man grabbed her around the neck and
:38:00. > :38:10.pushes her away. He takes the 100 she has withdrawn and makes off with
:38:10. > :38:13.it. Do you know this group? Give us a call. Watch closely on this one.
:38:13. > :38:23.It is just after three in the morning and one sleeping passenger
:38:23. > :38:24.
:38:24. > :38:28.has just dropped her expensive smartphone on the floor. This this
:38:28. > :38:35.honest chancer wastes no time claiming it for himself. He slips
:38:35. > :38:41.into his trouser pocket. He is just as quick to get away, getting his
:38:41. > :38:50.own phone out of his jacket on the same time. Maybe he has an urgent
:38:50. > :38:57.call to make. Who is he? Give us a bell if you know. You can call us if
:38:57. > :39:07.you know any of them. You can also call Crimestoppers anonymously. You
:39:07. > :39:08.
:39:08. > :39:16.can also text us. E-mail us as well full is not it never ceases to amaze
:39:16. > :39:19.me what these can steal sometimes. Indeed. Please is Wales are
:39:19. > :39:24.investigating after hundreds of slabs were stolen from a museum
:39:24. > :39:29.here, a few miles from where I am now. These paving stones are 200
:39:29. > :39:39.years old. They are on the site of the museum which was the former
:39:39. > :39:41.
:39:41. > :39:43.China works. What happened? When we arrived to open the museum, we
:39:43. > :39:48.opened and noticed some of the flagstones had been removed. That
:39:48. > :39:51.aroused our suspicions. We soon discovered a large number of
:39:51. > :39:55.flagstones had been moved from all around the house. It was
:39:55. > :40:01.heartbreaking to see the devastation that they had caused to this
:40:01. > :40:07.historic site. This happen overnight between the 24th and 25th of May.
:40:07. > :40:14.Can you replace these flagstones? Very difficult if not impossible.
:40:14. > :40:17.They have been therefore 200 years and they belong there. Thank you.
:40:17. > :40:25.Inspector Nigel Griffiths is investigating this case. How on
:40:25. > :40:29.earth did they get away with so many flagstones? These slabs would reach
:40:29. > :40:35.an excess of 15 tonnes, so there is no doubt a would have a heavy goods
:40:35. > :40:41.vehicle. A substantial team would have worked through the night to
:40:41. > :40:45.remove the slabs. Why did they want to take them? Are they worth
:40:45. > :40:52.anything? It is money. In the reclamation world, slabs like this
:40:52. > :41:00.can reach that stand shall money. What would they do once the slabs
:41:00. > :41:04.have been taken? They could be stolen to order, laid around
:41:04. > :41:11.somebody's patio, because they are historic. It is not an isolated
:41:11. > :41:17.case, is it? There are smaller report around the area. Half a dozen
:41:17. > :41:22.flagstones were stolen. We have also had 50 plus stolen from this area.
:41:22. > :41:25.Both sets of those were from householders. Private houses, that
:41:25. > :41:33.must have been awful, people noticing that their patios had
:41:33. > :41:37.disappeared. Yes, because these are irreplaceable. How is the
:41:37. > :41:43.investigation going? We would like people to write in if they have
:41:43. > :41:48.anything like this. Thank you. Look at these flagstones. If somebody
:41:48. > :41:56.tried to lay your patio with them, get in touch. Time to give you an
:41:56. > :42:01.update. Yesterday we showed you this space, accused of pushing an elderly
:42:01. > :42:06.woman at the cash point. Lots of you getting in touch with information on
:42:06. > :42:14.her. Hopefully she gets caught soon. Police are: Lee following up the
:42:14. > :42:24.leaves on a man who snatched a handbag in Cardiff. He ended up
:42:24. > :42:24.
:42:24. > :42:34.using so much force, he broke this lady's fingers. -- police are
:42:34. > :42:37.
:42:37. > :42:45.following up on the suggestions. That is -- that is asked, from
