:00:16. > :00:18.for your call. This month we are out on the road with the police and we

:00:19. > :00:33.need you to help them tackle criminals. Annette and Ian lost

:00:34. > :00:37.their daughter Kay to cancer. Now fees have taken photographs of her.

:00:38. > :00:45.We are under cover of an operation to cut white crime in Manchester.

:00:46. > :01:06.You are watching Crimewatch Roadshow. Welcome. This is the

:01:07. > :01:10.programme that takes you on the front line with the police and tells

:01:11. > :01:16.you what you need to know about crooks. Coming up. The couple

:01:17. > :01:24.attacked in their own home by thieves searching for gold. We feel

:01:25. > :01:29.secure in the same house. I never thought it could happen in England.

:01:30. > :01:37.It is called courier fraud, the elaborate scam based on one simple

:01:38. > :01:42.trick. I am furious at being taken in and hope the police can get onto

:01:43. > :01:47.it and get it stopped as soon as possible. It is our last day with

:01:48. > :01:54.Greater Manchester Police and Sian is at the National Cycling Centre in

:01:55. > :01:59.the city. Welcome to be very impressive BMX track at the home of

:02:00. > :02:04.British competitive cycling. In the Velodrome next door, some of the

:02:05. > :02:09.UK's elite cyclists are practising for the Commonwealth Games. As the

:02:10. > :02:15.sport is hugely popular now, we are looking at bike theft and what

:02:16. > :02:18.police are doing to tackle it. Burglaries are often deeply

:02:19. > :02:29.distressing for victims, but for a family from Rochdale, a break-in has

:02:30. > :02:36.been especially traumatic. We went upstairs. It was terrible.

:02:37. > :02:47.Everything had been opened up and tipped out. Everything is just

:02:48. > :02:52.memories, that have been taken. These days Stansfield and her

:02:53. > :03:00.husband Ian have few photographs of their daughter Sharon, who became

:03:01. > :03:04.ill in January 2010. She had a lump on her neck and was sent to the

:03:05. > :03:10.local hospital. They did a biopsy which came back clear. And then she

:03:11. > :03:20.had a lump under her arm. Sharon was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's

:03:21. > :03:26.lymphoma. She died in 2013. They did not think she would make the night.

:03:27. > :03:35.We stayed with her from Tuesday to Mother's Day, when she passed away.

:03:36. > :03:41.She was bubbly and a good friend to people. As well as my daughter, she

:03:42. > :03:44.was my best friend. A year later, the couple decided a driving holiday

:03:45. > :03:54.to Spain was a break they badly needed. You cannot forget, but we

:03:55. > :03:58.were trying to make a new start. The holiday was interrupted by a phone

:03:59. > :04:02.call from a neighbour, their home had been burgled and the couple were

:04:03. > :04:10.faced with a three-day drive to get home to Rochdale. We went upstairs.

:04:11. > :04:22.It was terrible. Everything had been opened up, tipped out. We found a

:04:23. > :04:27.night in the bedroom. -- knife. Was it to frighten someone off, or, if

:04:28. > :04:35.we had been in bed, with they have used it? Now, when it goes dark, I

:04:36. > :04:45.am terrible. The couple discovered that many items stolen had belonged

:04:46. > :04:49.to their daughter. There were her things, which we had literally

:04:50. > :04:57.brought back, jewellery she had tonnes of, a lot of it worth

:04:58. > :05:01.nothing, but, to ask, it was worth a lot. She had bought me a Radley

:05:02. > :05:07.handbag when she was ill. She drove to get me something nice for

:05:08. > :05:12.Christmas. That had gone. And a watch I bought when she first

:05:13. > :05:19.started the treatment. It was a Morgan watch. That has gone. Two

:05:20. > :05:25.laptops and cameras containing photographs of Sharon were taken by

:05:26. > :05:29.the callous thieves. We have never been a family to bother about

:05:30. > :05:34.material things. It is more about feelings. She would say, stop

:05:35. > :05:39.bothering about that, you and dad think about yourselves and get on

:05:40. > :05:47.with things. But we find it difficult. Police say the home was

:05:48. > :05:50.one of a number targeted that night. All of the premises were vacant and

:05:51. > :05:56.all of the occupants were on holiday, so I believe the premises

:05:57. > :06:01.was targeted. It is never nice. A burglary is a personal crime. To

:06:02. > :06:05.have somebody come into your house, trawling through your property and

:06:06. > :06:13.stealing hoppity belonging to you is not nice. Everything is just

:06:14. > :06:25.memories, that have been taken. They cannot steal your memories. But it

:06:26. > :06:29.is nice to see things. It is very difficult for the couple to cope

:06:30. > :06:33.with this and I am joined by Sergeant Graham Cook. We think there

:06:34. > :06:39.are people out there who know who has done this? I think the offenders

:06:40. > :06:45.will have spoken to friends and family and might have offered the

:06:46. > :06:51.stolen items. I appeal to anyone to come forward. There are four items

:06:52. > :06:57.of sentimental value. The first is a black Morgan watch with a black

:06:58. > :07:07.metal clasps and stones around the centre of the strap. The second is a

:07:08. > :07:13.dark blue Radley handbag. The third is a long gold necklace. The final

:07:14. > :07:20.one is a black bracelet with two charms. One is in the shape of a dog

:07:21. > :07:27.and the other in the shape of a diamond. Do you think someone saw

:07:28. > :07:31.the thieves? We believe they were disturbed. When the officers

:07:32. > :07:35.arrived, there was a vehicle with the television from the house in the

:07:36. > :07:39.back of the car. We believe they were disturbed committing the

:07:40. > :07:41.offence. This is distressing for the family. If you can help, please call

:07:42. > :07:46.us. And now time for wanted faces. Let's start with 38-year-old

:07:47. > :07:48.Edward Hill. Officers in Cleveland want to speak

:07:49. > :07:51.to him in connection with a conspiracy to supply almost 80 kilos

:07:52. > :07:54.of amphetamine He has connections to the Liverpool area and is described

:07:55. > :07:57.as having a boxer's nose. He has a scar on his left wrist

:07:58. > :08:01.and another on his eyebrow. Next is this man,

:08:02. > :08:03.33-year-old Courtney Smith. He was jailed for seven years

:08:04. > :08:05.for drug dealing He has failed to stick to

:08:06. > :08:10.the conditions of that release He was sentenced to seven years

:08:11. > :08:27.in prison in April this year for a sophisticated fraud which cost the

:08:28. > :08:30.banking industry over ?2.5 million. He failed to turn up for

:08:31. > :08:33.sentencing and is now on the run. He is also wanted

:08:34. > :08:36.for another banking fraud for which he was sentenced to three

:08:37. > :08:39.years in his absence in February. Parsons is described

:08:40. > :08:41.as easily agitated and has connections in the Manchester,

:08:42. > :09:05.West Midlands, Nottinghamshire, Last up is this man. He was released

:09:06. > :09:10.early from prison on licence but failed to stick to the conditions

:09:11. > :09:15.and is wanted back in prison. He has a tad too of a woodlouse and another

:09:16. > :09:19.of blue dots on the left wrist. He has a two inch scar on the side of

:09:20. > :09:23.his neck and has links to the Stoke-on-Trent area, Kidsgrove in

:09:24. > :09:30.particular. If you recognise them, pick up the telephone. Telephone

:09:31. > :09:34.calls are free from most landlines but some networks and operators will

:09:35. > :09:45.charge for these. You can also send a text at the standard rate. And you

:09:46. > :09:49.can send an e-mail. Still to come. Very unsportsmanlike. Who is this

:09:50. > :09:57.thief stealing from changing rooms while the teams are on the pitch?

:09:58. > :10:03.This indoor BMX track is one of the biggest of its kind in Europe. We

:10:04. > :10:08.have impressive skills on display as well as toddlers starting out. All

:10:09. > :10:14.of the abilities under one roof. Where you have bicycles, you have

:10:15. > :10:18.people who want to steal them. We can find out more from Chief

:10:19. > :10:25.Inspector Patrick McKelvey. How much is bike theft problem? Last year it

:10:26. > :10:28.was a problem in Manchester city centre with a lot of bicycles being

:10:29. > :10:36.stolen, quite expensive ones as well. Our expensive bikes a

:10:37. > :10:39.particular target? To some, but most people are opportunists who will

:10:40. > :10:47.take the bicycle with the cheapest lock. We have done some work in the

:10:48. > :10:53.city and theft is down by 20%. Some people will be able to tell what is

:10:54. > :11:00.expensive. All sorts of bikes get stolen. We have four. I will look at

:11:01. > :11:04.them and see if I can see which is the most expensive. I do not have

:11:05. > :11:12.any particular skill. This is a light looking bike. I imagine it is

:11:13. > :11:19.a racing bike and could be expensive. This second one is shiny

:11:20. > :11:22.and looks great. Next to that, we have a bright green bike, with quite

:11:23. > :11:25.a few bits on it. have a bright green bike, with quite

:11:26. > :11:32.a few bits I am sure it would be popular with many people. And that

:11:33. > :11:39.one on the end, it is a gorgeous yellow bike, a children's bike. I am

:11:40. > :11:44.guessing the red shiny by? That is not right. The first bike, the frame

:11:45. > :11:49.itself is worth more than the three others put together. The first has

:11:50. > :11:56.no brakes and gears and is specialised. It is worth up to

:11:57. > :12:00.?2500. I did not know what I was talking about, but many being stolen

:12:01. > :12:09.will stop you have become an expert in this. I am getting there! We have

:12:10. > :12:15.a bicycle guide, to let officers know how to identify bicycles and

:12:16. > :12:20.the value of them. Bicycles can go up to ?15,000. If officers see a

:12:21. > :12:25.person known to be a criminal with not much income who is on a bicycle

:12:26. > :12:31.worth ?3000, we need to speak to them. Later, come back to us,

:12:32. > :12:36.because we have been out with the police as they tried to catch these

:12:37. > :12:42.thieves red-handed. We can look at crooks caught on camera. This lot

:12:43. > :12:49.have been getting up to some nasty stuff. January, 2014. The faces of

:12:50. > :12:55.the men are concealed as they walk into a south London shop. Two of

:12:56. > :12:58.them look around the store while the third stands and stares menacingly

:12:59. > :13:04.at the shopkeeper. He tells them they cannot come into the shop with

:13:05. > :13:08.faces covered, but they take no notice. Realising he will be

:13:09. > :13:12.raided, the shopkeeper tries to defend himself by closing the gate

:13:13. > :13:17.to the counter. The robber produces what appears to be half a snooker

:13:18. > :13:22.cue and attacks him. The shopkeeper grabs a wooden pole and takes cover

:13:23. > :13:26.as the three have items, including glass bottles from the Cabinet. The

:13:27. > :13:32.shopkeeper fights back and clashes with one of them, before they flee

:13:33. > :13:38.from the store. Help us to catch this vicious gang.

:13:39. > :13:43.Trouble is brewing in the Wiltshire town of Warminster. Things turned

:13:44. > :13:48.ugly when a man in a long-sleeved top and jeans hits and off duty

:13:49. > :13:52.soldier. It really kicks off and the victim is punched twice more in the

:13:53. > :14:02.face before he falls to the ground. Police say he suffered a fractured

:14:03. > :14:10.jaw. Pick up the phone if you can help. This is nasty. It is early

:14:11. > :14:15.morning in Cardiff, in February. A young man is followed by a violent

:14:16. > :14:20.gang. The streets are almost deserted. As he turns the corner, he

:14:21. > :14:27.sees two young men closing in. He turns to face them and is punched

:14:28. > :14:32.several times, before a third attacker arrives. From close range,

:14:33. > :14:36.he holds an object at the victim's face and then launches his own

:14:37. > :14:40.attack. The Victor An is thrown on the ground by a fourth man and is

:14:41. > :14:48.completely at the mercy of the gang. As he reels from the blows, a fourth

:14:49. > :14:52.man delivers the vicious final punch. Incredibly, he manages to

:14:53. > :14:59.walk away from the attack. We cannot let these cowards get away with it.

:15:00. > :15:04.You know what you need to do. We are with the cyclists at the

:15:05. > :15:10.National Cycling Centre and some pretty impressive skills on display.

:15:11. > :15:14.Police have patrols operating in this area. There are very expensive

:15:15. > :15:25.bicycles on show. Jacob is a cyclist. Six times British champion.

:15:26. > :15:31.You lost a bike that was stolen? I had a prototype BMX bike. I was due

:15:32. > :15:35.to give it back a couple of days later. I did a race at this venue

:15:36. > :15:36.and unfortunately was followed home and had the bike stolen from

:15:37. > :15:37.and unfortunately was followed home and had a lot shared.

:15:38. > :15:43.and unfortunately was followed home and had a lot It was the only one in

:15:44. > :15:51.the world. Totally gutted. Had to buy a new bike. And it cost me a lot

:15:52. > :15:56.of money. So is it something you are now more aware of? Definitely. I

:15:57. > :16:03.have put double the amount of locks. The shared even has an alarm on it

:16:04. > :16:08.now. I am doing my best to make sure it does not happen again. We will be

:16:09. > :16:13.out with the police as they set a trap for the thieves.

:16:14. > :16:18.Caught on camera, a bike thief in action. He makes a quick getaway,

:16:19. > :16:23.but does not realise he has stolen a decoy bike, and officers have been

:16:24. > :16:28.lying in wait to catch thieves like him. Today, we are joining an

:16:29. > :16:32.undercover operation to catch the criminals who think bikes are an

:16:33. > :16:41.easy target. We will be putting a decoy bike out into the city centre.

:16:42. > :16:45.It is a hotspot area, which we class as somewhere where we have had a few

:16:46. > :16:50.bikes stolen in the last week. Manchester City centre has been a

:16:51. > :16:55.prime location for bike theft, despite its extensive CCTV coverage.

:16:56. > :17:01.But the sting operations help to reduce the problem. Last year, we

:17:02. > :17:08.had 638 bikes stolen. But in the last few months, we have seen that

:17:09. > :17:13.drastically reduced. So it is coming down. Rachel briefs her team on the

:17:14. > :17:17.plan for today's operation. We will be at the junction of market street

:17:18. > :17:21.and Pall mall. If I could then ask Scott and care of the goal up the

:17:22. > :17:26.junction of Pall Mall. The undercover officers get into

:17:27. > :17:35.position and a decoy bike, worth ?400,000, is locked on to the rack

:17:36. > :17:44.-- worth ?4000 full up we are trying to be as covert as possible, so they

:17:45. > :17:47.don't see us. The last thing we want to do is have them see us, because

:17:48. > :17:53.they will walk away and we will not catch them. Now the officers just

:17:54. > :17:58.have to wait. And for two hours, no one takes the bait. Then at the

:17:59. > :18:02.bottom of the screen, two men can be seen showing an interest. One seems

:18:03. > :18:08.to kick the tires, whilst the other takes a closer look. These labs that

:18:09. > :18:12.have been hanging around the bike rack have just walked past, so we

:18:13. > :18:18.are watching to see if they go back and approach the bike. It is a tense

:18:19. > :18:26.time. It is just waiting now for them to come back. The duo hang

:18:27. > :18:30.around for a time, but eventually decide to move on. So for Rachel and

:18:31. > :18:35.her team, it is back to waiting and watching. 40 minutes go by, and it

:18:36. > :18:41.looks like no one is going to take the bait. But just when the team are

:18:42. > :18:52.due to give up, they spot a man loitering nearby. He steps up to the

:18:53. > :19:06.bike. The team stand-by. The lock has been broken, and the team go in.

:19:07. > :19:14.The officers spotted him hanging around the bike rack. Then he took

:19:15. > :19:18.the chain off the bike. We are going to look and see whether he cut it

:19:19. > :19:23.off all pulled it off. It is a result. He stole one of our bikes.

:19:24. > :19:27.It could easily have been a member of the public's bike that he could

:19:28. > :19:30.have taken, so it is good that he was arrested. Before he is loaded

:19:31. > :19:35.into the police van for a trip to the station, the bike thief is

:19:36. > :19:39.searched, and further evidence is found. We found two pairs of wires

:19:40. > :19:44.on him. When we looked at the bike lock that was used to secure the

:19:45. > :19:49.cycle, he cut it with the pliers. So he has been arrested for theft of a

:19:50. > :19:55.cycle, but he will also be arrested for having these pliers on him. He

:19:56. > :19:59.is going to the police station now, where he will be interviewed in

:20:00. > :20:03.relation to what has happened and he will be shown the CCTV footage. Then

:20:04. > :20:07.a decision will be made on whether he gets charged. The man later

:20:08. > :20:11.pleaded guilty to the theft of the bike. He is due to be sentenced next

:20:12. > :20:17.month. Well, one bike thief brought to

:20:18. > :20:24.justice, but we saw in that film how easy it is to cut through some bike

:20:25. > :20:29.locks. PCS US -- PCSOs Curtis Paris will demonstrate that for us now.

:20:30. > :20:33.While he does that let's chat Ted Gordon, who runs the cycle shop at

:20:34. > :20:37.the centre. It is amazing how quickly some people can get through

:20:38. > :20:41.these locks? Yes, it does not take long to get through some of the

:20:42. > :20:46.cheaper locks. They are not exciting things to buy, so people do not

:20:47. > :20:50.spend much money on them, but it can be costly. What is your advice on

:20:51. > :20:54.which locks to use? Speak to your insurance company and make sure you

:20:55. > :20:57.get a policy that will cover you if it goes wrong. Don't be afraid to

:20:58. > :21:01.spend a decent amount of money on a lock. Some of these will cost to

:21:02. > :21:08.?200, but if the bike is worth a few thousand, it is worth it. Let's look

:21:09. > :21:14.at the lock on that green bike. It looks very expensive. That is

:21:15. > :21:19.something we have taken from the motorcycle world. Some bikes are in

:21:20. > :21:22.the same cost bracket as motorbikes, so spending that amount

:21:23. > :21:26.of money on a lock is not unreasonable. It is a hardened steel

:21:27. > :21:30.chain with a padlock, which is based on a more familiar D-lock system.

:21:31. > :21:36.They are incredibly strong and it would take serious power to remove

:21:37. > :21:40.it. That Lott has now been removed by Curtis, and he got through it in

:21:41. > :21:46.a matter of seconds, because we have in talking for a minute. What about

:21:47. > :21:51.this one? This one is more common, the D-lock. It is a much more solid

:21:52. > :21:55.system than the one we saw Curtis remove. Solid steel is always better

:21:56. > :22:00.than a flexible cable. We recommend that, especially somewhere like

:22:01. > :22:03.Manchester. Some tips for you at home.

:22:04. > :22:09.The value of gold has rocketed over the last ten years, and criminals

:22:10. > :22:12.have been quick to cash in. Some are even targeting Asian families, who

:22:13. > :22:15.occasionally keep old at home, especially during religious

:22:16. > :22:23.festivals or weddings. One family were subject to a violent attack.

:22:24. > :22:28.Massoud Ahmed and his wife Nusram have lived in their home in Bamford,

:22:29. > :22:36.near Rochdale, 411 years. This is one of the best years, the posh area

:22:37. > :22:42.of Rochdale. If this is not safe, where can anyone be safe?

:22:43. > :22:46.TRANSLATION: I used to feel confident leaving the door open

:22:47. > :22:49.while I was in the kitchen. When I knew my kids were coming home, I

:22:50. > :22:59.would open the door. Nothing like this has happened before. It was

:23:00. > :23:06.around six o'clock. Me and the Mrs was sitting here in this room. TV

:23:07. > :23:14.was on, lights were on. And I heard the bang. I knew something was going

:23:15. > :23:21.to happen. Three masked men raced into their home, grabbing the

:23:22. > :23:27.couple. I started facing them, having a fight with them. And my

:23:28. > :23:32.wife was shouting as well, but there was nothing coming out from our

:23:33. > :23:34.voice. It was like a nightmare. The intruders had smashed their way

:23:35. > :23:41.through the patio doors, leaving glass everywhere. The glass was on

:23:42. > :23:45.the floor and glass started going through my feet. I was still trying

:23:46. > :23:51.to resist as much as I could. He strangled me round the neck, and

:23:52. > :23:54.held me down near the sofa. And blood was coming out of my feet. The

:23:55. > :24:01.gang seemed convinced that the couple owned valuable 24 carat

:24:02. > :24:04.gold, often called Asian gold. They were shouting only for one thing.

:24:05. > :24:13.Where is your gold, where is your cash? Tell me! My wife said, I don't

:24:14. > :24:17.like gold. You can see my arms, I am not wearing any gold. They refused

:24:18. > :24:24.to believe there was no gold. Two of the men forced Nusram upstairs.

:24:25. > :24:28.Massoud was held downstairs, fearing the worst for his wife. That was

:24:29. > :24:32.really the worst time of my life. She was upstairs and I was thinking,

:24:33. > :24:40.oh, God, maybe they will do her something, you know. There might be

:24:41. > :24:44.strangling her. I did not know what they were doing to her. But the

:24:45. > :24:50.thieves only had one thing on their minds, searching for gold. As they

:24:51. > :24:52.rifled through Nusram's costume jewellery, she managed to break

:24:53. > :24:56.through and call for help. But within seconds, the men had grabbed

:24:57. > :25:00.her again and dragged her back to the living room, where Masood was

:25:01. > :25:06.putting up a fight. When I was giving him the cash from my pocket,

:25:07. > :25:12.his grip was a bit loose around my neck, so I put him down. As soon as

:25:13. > :25:17.I had given him a couple of punches, the guy from upstairs came and

:25:18. > :25:22.started kicking. Desperate to protect Nusram, Masood told the gang

:25:23. > :25:29.that the police were already on their way. I said, I have CCTV

:25:30. > :25:39.cameras outside. And they are connected to the police. One of them

:25:40. > :25:50.ran outside. He had a lot. -- Aluko. It was enough to scare the gang. Are

:25:51. > :26:06.you OK? I have called the police. Hello, Mr Masood?

:26:07. > :26:14.Police believe the robbery was carefully planned. They had targeted

:26:15. > :26:20.that house, believing there was Asian gold inside. It is a

:26:21. > :26:24.despicable crime, really nasty. They were subjected to unnecessary

:26:25. > :26:29.violence in their own home. It left them terrified, distraught. We

:26:30. > :26:41.suffered for eight minutes, but they were like eight years. I am very

:26:42. > :26:46.upset. After that, we had sleepless nights, nightmares. Everything has

:26:47. > :26:57.been happening. We feel very insecure in the same house. I never

:26:58. > :26:59.thought it could happen in England. Detective Sergeant John Schofield is

:27:00. > :27:04.with me. Do you have any idea who did this? Just before the incident,

:27:05. > :27:08.three male voices were heard at the rear of the property, which is a bit

:27:09. > :27:15.of a dirt track, not much there. So we are interested to speak to anyone

:27:16. > :27:18.who may have seen these males. And in December, before the attack,

:27:19. > :27:22.there was a man on the street, pretending to distribute leaflets.

:27:23. > :27:27.So we would ask anyone who saw him to come forward. There is some CCTV.

:27:28. > :27:31.Do you have descriptions of men? The three men were all described as

:27:32. > :27:36.white males, all wearing generic black clothing and their faces were

:27:37. > :27:41.covered. They were in their early twenties. One of them was quite

:27:42. > :27:44.small and the other two had distinctive blue eyes. How can the

:27:45. > :27:49.public help you with this? In these cases, it is common for people to

:27:50. > :27:55.talk about it, whether it is about what they have done or the

:27:56. > :28:00.aftermath. People can overhear that. This is the type of watch that was

:28:01. > :28:05.stolen during the event. They might be wearing it or try to sell it.

:28:06. > :28:09.Very upsetting for the family in this case. It has had an awful

:28:10. > :28:13.impact on them to be attacked in their home the way they work, to the

:28:14. > :28:17.extent where there is now a reward being offered of ?2000 if it leads

:28:18. > :28:23.to the arrest and conviction of the people responsible. Quickly take

:28:24. > :28:27.another look at that watch. If you have been offered anything like

:28:28. > :28:32.that, get in touch. And there is a reward in this case.

:28:33. > :28:35.We saw earlier how police are catching bike thieves, but now we

:28:36. > :28:42.need your help to trace of different kind of sporting fifth. DI Warren

:28:43. > :28:44.Atkinson is here now. The thief you are after has a unique way of

:28:45. > :28:49.getting his way on other people's hoppity? When people are out playing

:28:50. > :28:55.sport, whether it is football or rugby, he is busy stealing their

:28:56. > :29:01.property from the changing rooms. Very cheeky. Where is he doing this?

:29:02. > :29:07.Basically, he has committed offences at Preston grasshoppers and

:29:08. > :29:12.Blackpool rugby club in March. And the university of central

:29:13. > :29:16.Lancashire. Those were all rugby clubs, certainly not the sort of

:29:17. > :29:20.people you would want to upset. And you have some good clues to go on?

:29:21. > :29:26.You have got some CCTV we can see now. You can see the offender

:29:27. > :29:30.walking into Preston grasshoppers at 9.40 in the morning. He is quite a

:29:31. > :29:36.tall individual. Then you see him walking out again. Stinker backpack,

:29:37. > :29:41.smart casual clothing. He does not seem bothered -- distinctive

:29:42. > :29:48.backpack. That seems to be part of his MO? In this situation, he went

:29:49. > :29:51.into the challenging -- changing rooms and was not challenged. He

:29:52. > :29:56.purported to be a member of the home team on helping people onto the

:29:57. > :30:00.pitch with physio equipment. He offered to look after the valuables

:30:01. > :30:05.for the team, and took them away, never to return. And you don't think

:30:06. > :30:09.it is localised to that area, he could have gone further afield? We

:30:10. > :30:13.are aware of a spike in Birmingham in early December and have been made

:30:14. > :30:19.aware of some offences in late April and early May in the Bristol and

:30:20. > :30:23.Bath area. So he could be anywhere. You are asking B owners to be

:30:24. > :30:27.vigilant? I am confident that he is using public transport, and he will

:30:28. > :30:34.be cash rich, using the cash to put himself into B A loss of our

:30:35. > :30:39.normal investigations suggest that. Travelling the country, paying cash.

:30:40. > :30:49.Have a good look at him. Get in touch if you know where he is. If

:30:50. > :30:55.you have information, get in touch. The number is on the screen. Now it

:30:56. > :31:01.is time for the second batch of criminals captured by CCTV. We need

:31:02. > :31:06.you to tell us who they are. There is one word to describe the next

:31:07. > :31:10.crime, despicable. A woman walked into a high-street department store

:31:11. > :31:14.in Burnley Lancashire. She approaches a 66-year-old woman in a

:31:15. > :31:19.wheelchair, with her friend in the shoe section will stop while the

:31:20. > :31:25.friends are distracted, she rummages through the Lady's handbag, hanging

:31:26. > :31:31.from her wheelchair. She takes a purse containing ?50 and leaves. Do

:31:32. > :31:37.you recognise this cowardly crook? Call us now if you do.

:31:38. > :31:43.We are in Cannock town centre July last year. The motorbike pulls up on

:31:44. > :31:48.the pavement and the rider leaves the engine running. He walks up an

:31:49. > :31:52.alleyway to a greengrocer and knocks over an elderly woman as he rushes

:31:53. > :31:57.behind the tills to snatch the staff wages. But they have been paid and

:31:58. > :32:02.there is nothing to steal. An angry crowd chased him down the alleyway,

:32:03. > :32:11.where police say he stabbed a man who tried to stop him will stop he

:32:12. > :32:16.goes back to the mall -- back to the motorbike and tries to escape, but

:32:17. > :32:22.the escape is almost foiled. Police say he was wearing a distinctive

:32:23. > :32:34.laser Chameleon helmet and a jacket with the words "good ride".

:32:35. > :32:38.These burglars are in luck. Finding the back door of a south London

:32:39. > :32:43.pizza parlour open, they sneak inside. It does not take long to

:32:44. > :32:47.find the office. Good fortune obviously follows them because when

:32:48. > :32:54.they find a safe on the floor, bingo, it is unlocked. The man is

:32:55. > :33:00.emptying the safe of cash and documents. His friend is in charge

:33:01. > :33:06.of holding the bag. They steal ?345, tripping the security light as they

:33:07. > :33:14.leave. But they are not bothered. They know luck is on their side.

:33:15. > :33:22.Tell us who they are. We can take a look at a shocking

:33:23. > :33:30.scam that swindled a 72-year-old pensioner out of ?107,000. What

:33:31. > :33:35.happened, Richard? The victim was at home and approached by a cold caller

:33:36. > :33:39.to do work on the driveway. He paid him and then he was contacted again,

:33:40. > :33:45.offering a refund, but saying he would only get the refund if he paid

:33:46. > :33:50.extra money. This went on for about 15 months. The amounts got bigger.

:33:51. > :33:55.The victim believed all the reasons given why he needed to give more

:33:56. > :34:02.money to get his money back. People will wonder how it went on for so

:34:03. > :34:05.long. At the time, the victim wanted to believe what was happening and he

:34:06. > :34:10.said the man was believable and seemed like a nice chat will stop he

:34:11. > :34:15.wanted to believe he would get his money back -- seemed like a nice

:34:16. > :34:23.man. We can talk about the description. He gave his name is

:34:24. > :34:29.Howard. He is a white male. He is in his 30s. Medium build, speaking with

:34:30. > :34:39.a Bristol, south-west accent, and always dress smartly. ?107,000

:34:40. > :34:44.swindled in this con. Now it is time for a quick appeal.

:34:45. > :34:54.Today it is one for a person with the -- with an eye on the finer

:34:55. > :34:59.things in life will stop an art gallery in Newark, Nottinghamshire.

:35:00. > :35:07.A brick was used to enter Trent Galleries in Chain Lane. Saturday

:35:08. > :35:13.the 15th of March. He made off with two bronze sculptures. They are by

:35:14. > :35:18.Jennine Parker. One of them is called Affinity and the other is

:35:19. > :35:21.called Prosperity. They have identity numbers engraved on the

:35:22. > :35:31.back together with the signature of the artist. Prosperity was number

:35:32. > :35:39.16. Affinity number 19. They are quite heavy to carry and Isleworth

:35:40. > :35:42.together almost ?1800. Maybe somebody has offered them to you. If

:35:43. > :35:47.you know where they are, please get in touch.

:35:48. > :35:53.It is called courier fraud, a fast-growing scam that reaches into

:35:54. > :35:59.your home and tricks you into handing over your bank card and the

:36:00. > :36:02.vital PIN number. In Manchester, police are warning people about the

:36:03. > :36:10.con, which affects people across the country. Your account has been

:36:11. > :36:22.compromised. Your credit card has been stolen. It was an unfortunate

:36:23. > :36:29.and unpleasant experience. For Ralph, it started with a call out of

:36:30. > :36:36.the blue. The phone rang. I am calling from the fraud squad. He

:36:37. > :36:41.said we have apprehended two people in the Westfield retail Park. We

:36:42. > :36:47.have a man in custody, trying to clone your card. Worried that money

:36:48. > :36:50.might have been taken from his bank account, Ralph tried to help the

:36:51. > :36:56.officer by following his instructions. He said to make sure

:36:57. > :37:00.you know who you are talking to, we will ring. Will you please ring 999

:37:01. > :37:06.and asked to come through to Limehouse police station. Ralph did

:37:07. > :37:12.not know it, but he was about to become a victim of courier fraud.

:37:13. > :37:17.The victims are normally elderly people, vulnerable people, who

:37:18. > :37:25.believe whether they are telephoned by someone saying they are the

:37:26. > :37:28.police, that they are the police. He was asked to ring the variety of

:37:29. > :37:34.phone numbers including the bank, to cancel cards. He said, give me the

:37:35. > :37:40.details and I will get them cancelled. The key is that when

:37:41. > :37:46.people think they have hung up, the criminals stay on the line. The

:37:47. > :37:51.victim picks up their own telephone and ring the number and be connected

:37:52. > :37:57.automatically to the same person. There are ways of preventing this

:37:58. > :38:00.happening to you. The line only remains open for a set length of

:38:01. > :38:06.time so I would leave it ten minutes before you ring back. The final

:38:07. > :38:12.stage involves getting hold of the victim's card by pretending it is

:38:13. > :38:18.needed as evidence. We will send someone over to collect your card. A

:38:19. > :38:23.courier was used to collect the card and deliver it to the criminals.

:38:24. > :38:27.This is an area police are working on, stopping legitimate taxi firms

:38:28. > :38:35.from being tricked into acting as careers for the criminals. We stress

:38:36. > :38:40.to taxi drivers that if they are asked to collect a package from a

:38:41. > :38:47.vulnerable person, to ask them about it. Make sure it is legitimate. The

:38:48. > :38:50.message has reached some of Manchester's taxi firms. When

:38:51. > :38:56.Muhammad received a call, he refused to take the booking and notified the

:38:57. > :39:01.police. It was a busy day. I picked up the call and it was a gentleman

:39:02. > :39:08.saying can you pick up a card from my grandfather's place and deliver

:39:09. > :39:13.it to me, I have left my card there. That is when I thought, no,

:39:14. > :39:20.something is wrong. The day after handing over his card, Ralph

:39:21. > :39:25.discovered they had taken ?500. But the car and artists went further.

:39:26. > :39:30.They asked him to give them his watch, which he had been given for

:39:31. > :39:35.his 21st birthday, making up elaborate stories about being needed

:39:36. > :39:44.for a court case. It was a very good watch. I am furious. Furious at

:39:45. > :39:51.being taken in. I hope the police can get onto it and get this stopped

:39:52. > :39:56.as soon as possible. A police officer, bank, building society,

:39:57. > :40:03.will not ring and ask the credit card details over the telephone.

:40:04. > :40:07.That just will not happen. If you think you have been a victim of

:40:08. > :40:12.fraud, or you want more information, you can go to the Action Fraud

:40:13. > :40:25.website. You can telephone them on... It is now time to talk about

:40:26. > :40:29.cycling on the road with Graham. You put cameras on your helmet and on

:40:30. > :40:35.the back of your bicycle, was that because you were not happy with what

:40:36. > :40:39.was happening on the road? I had so many incidents, scary and dangerous,

:40:40. > :40:43.and I wanted to gather evidence in case something serious happened, but

:40:44. > :40:49.also to show what it is like the cyclists on the road. What incidents

:40:50. > :41:00.did you see? We have people passing extremely close. I do 125 miles per

:41:01. > :41:06.day. Tailgating, cutting you up, those sorts of things. Has there

:41:07. > :41:10.been an improvement? I was invited to a bus company last year. I had a

:41:11. > :41:17.chat with the people doing the training. Since then, there has been

:41:18. > :41:23.a dramatic improvement in behaviour of bus drivers. We can talk to

:41:24. > :41:26.someone who has done a lot of work on this. PCSO Gareth Walker.

:41:27. > :41:38.Demonstrate the points you want to get across. We are trying to get

:41:39. > :41:46.across the message to stay out of cycling lanes. To give cyclists

:41:47. > :41:51.base. We are saying a metre to let vehicles pass. Do not tailgate, slow

:41:52. > :41:59.down. Do not put the cyclist under pressure. In a sentence, it is not

:42:00. > :42:04.just motorists. Cyclists commit offences such as failing to stop at

:42:05. > :42:08.red lights and cycling on the footpath. We want road users to

:42:09. > :42:17.respect each other and share the road responsibly. Handy advice.

:42:18. > :42:23.An update. Today's wanted face number 11. Maxwell Parsons, wanted

:42:24. > :42:27.for sophisticated fraud costing ?2.5 million. Police are following up

:42:28. > :42:35.what they call a fantastic lead as a result of a call to the show. Good

:42:36. > :42:41.information after yesterday's appeal about a scam involving ?120,000 in

:42:42. > :42:48.Hampshire. And the men wanted after a scam involving money, lots of

:42:49. > :42:53.leaves on that one. It looks like you have had a good time up there,

:42:54. > :43:00.Sian. We have enjoyed ourselves. That is

:43:01. > :43:04.it from the National Cycling Centre in Manchester. Tomorrow we go to

:43:05. > :43:09.North and we will show you how to make your home burglar proof.

:43:10. > :43:14.For more details on the show today, go to the website. Finally, we will

:43:15. > :43:20.leave you with another look at the wanted faces. Somebody knows where

:43:21. > :43:54.they are. If you do, get in touch. We will see you tomorrow.

:44:00. > :44:02.It's like a big old question mark in your heart.
