:00:00. > :00:09.We're live, and we're kicking off our third week

:00:10. > :00:19.The traffic cops on the hunt for drivers under the influence.

:00:20. > :00:25.Tell them we might have to take this out.

:00:26. > :00:28.And I'll be finding out whether I've got a head for heights,

:00:29. > :00:55.Hello, and welcome to Crimewatch Roadshow.

:00:56. > :00:57.We're live and standing by for your calls.

:00:58. > :01:05.The sneaky thief who befriended a pensioner while he

:01:06. > :01:13.This woman offered to help because she saw I was struggling.

:01:14. > :01:16.And I thought, well, that's a Good Samaritan.

:01:17. > :01:28.Michelle and the team are in Sheffield today.

:01:29. > :01:33.This is where fire fighters come to practice for the most dangerous

:01:34. > :01:38.situations they will encounter. They will be entering this burning

:01:39. > :01:40.building to show how it is done, and testing their cliff rescuing skills

:01:41. > :01:43.on me. Police need your help to catch those

:01:44. > :01:47.behind the murder of 80-year-old As you'd expect this

:01:48. > :02:04.is a particularly serious case. My dad was a hard working miner, he

:02:05. > :02:09.worked for 30 years. He was always there for us, he would

:02:10. > :02:15.do everything for us if he could. Always telling jokes.

:02:16. > :02:17.He always had a joke or somebody. Father, grandfather and

:02:18. > :02:21.great-grandfather Tommy Ward was a much loved pillar of the community

:02:22. > :02:27.in Rotherham. He had a really interesting life,

:02:28. > :02:30.had loads of stories to tell. He was on national service, in the Norfolk

:02:31. > :02:35.Regiment and Northumberland fusiliers.

:02:36. > :02:39.But, at the age of 80, Tommy had become increasingly frail, and

:02:40. > :02:45.depended on his carer. I used to see him four times a day.

:02:46. > :02:51.Great sense of humour. Really friendly. Easy-going little guy.

:02:52. > :02:58.You fell in love with him. He was so easy to be with. In

:02:59. > :03:04.September last year, Angie paid her last visit of the day to Tommy.

:03:05. > :03:11.On Wednesday night, I had gone in, got there around 6:20pm.

:03:12. > :03:19.I made him a cup of tea. His medication. I set his bedroom,

:03:20. > :03:23.put his pyjamas on, closed his curtains.

:03:24. > :03:28.Had a cup of coffee with him. Said good night, God bless, gave him a

:03:29. > :03:33.hug, as I did every night. He said, I hate goodbye time. I said, I know,

:03:34. > :03:38.I will see you in the morning, I will be back. I locked his door.

:03:39. > :03:41.Rattled it to make sure it was locked. Left him until I went back

:03:42. > :04:00.the next morning. When she returned the next day,

:04:01. > :04:06.Angie quickly realised something was wrong.

:04:07. > :04:11.I got there roughly 6:45am. I went to unlock the door and it

:04:12. > :04:16.wasn't locked, which I thought was quite strange because I knew I had

:04:17. > :04:21.locked it the night before. Good morning, Tom! I went in,

:04:22. > :04:25.calling his name, shouting, good morning.

:04:26. > :04:29.I'm coming upstairs! I looked to his bedroom, he wasn't in bed.

:04:30. > :04:36.I thought, he will be in kitchen waiting for his cup of tea.

:04:37. > :04:43.And I went through to the dining area.

:04:44. > :04:53.And then I found Tom. I need to stop.

:04:54. > :04:57.Tom! Tommy had been savagely beaten. I went up to him. He was making a

:04:58. > :05:02.terrible noise. I looked at his injuries and said I

:05:03. > :05:08.would call for an ambulance. He looked at one point he was going

:05:09. > :05:14.to pass away, I shouted his name, no, don't you leave me now.

:05:15. > :05:17.He seemed to kick back in again. 26 years in care, I have never seen

:05:18. > :05:25.anything like that and I hope I never see it again.

:05:26. > :05:28.Tommy was left with horrific injuries. The pictures of him in

:05:29. > :05:35.hospital are particularly distressing.

:05:36. > :05:40.Tommy had extensive injuries to his face, his arms and to his head.

:05:41. > :05:43.He had a severe Brain Injury Matters fence wounds to his arms which

:05:44. > :05:48.showed he had put up a fight. He also broke one of his fingers

:05:49. > :05:50.which unfortunately had to be amputated.

:05:51. > :05:55.His horrendous injuries had left Tommy unable to speak or communicate

:05:56. > :05:58.in any way with the police or his family.

:05:59. > :06:05.It was horrible to see, tubes everywhere, a chuck your to me in

:06:06. > :06:09.the front. Someone to hit an 80-year-old man

:06:10. > :06:18.who was not very steady at all, and go to the lengths they went to, they

:06:19. > :06:25.are not human. Police believe the attackers were

:06:26. > :06:29.only after one thing. There is a cash box which had

:06:30. > :06:32.approximately ?30,000, his life savings. And that was no longer the

:06:33. > :06:38.address. Not once he was taken to hospital.

:06:39. > :06:42.In February this year, five months from the incident, Tommy died.

:06:43. > :06:48.He had not been able to tell the police anything about his attack.

:06:49. > :06:54.They stole what he has worked for, what he has kept, what is rightfully

:06:55. > :07:01.his. So, they have stolen that from him.

:07:02. > :07:03.They stole his life. They stole my kids's grandfather, they stole my

:07:04. > :07:09.dad. We are just in a long, dark tunnel.

:07:10. > :07:12.There doesn't seem any light at the end of it at the moment.

:07:13. > :07:21.Detective Chief Inspector Victoria Short is with me.

:07:22. > :07:27.Somebody watching must know who did this? I need anybody to come forward

:07:28. > :07:33.with information regarding anyone acting suspiciously around the

:07:34. > :07:37.attack in Maltby. His car left him at 7pm on Wednesday 30th of

:07:38. > :07:42.September last year. She returned the following morning at 6:45am,

:07:43. > :07:47.Tommy had been attacked. We need anybody who saw anything

:07:48. > :07:51.suspicious during that time. His life savings were stolen, you

:07:52. > :07:56.believe that to be the motivation. The savings were in a safe.

:07:57. > :08:00.An identical safety deposit box like this was found eight miles from the

:08:01. > :08:03.address in a canal, ten days after the attack, but it no longer

:08:04. > :08:09.contained the money. I need someone to come forward who

:08:10. > :08:13.knows where that money was or is being stored.

:08:14. > :08:17.Crimestoppers have offered a ?10,000 reward for any information leading

:08:18. > :08:20.to the arrest and conviction for those responsible.

:08:21. > :08:24.Please contact them for that award, not the police.

:08:25. > :08:31.How are the family coping? They are devastated. They have lost

:08:32. > :08:33.someone important to their lives, but they have the support of the

:08:34. > :08:38.police and other agencies. Thank you so much. Back to you, Rav.

:08:39. > :08:42.We saw in the film how desperate Tommy's family are for answers.

:08:43. > :08:44.If you can help, please get in touch on the usual numbers.

:08:45. > :08:49.Or, if you prefer, you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

:08:50. > :08:52.Next, see if you recognise any of this lot -

:08:53. > :09:03.And a warning that one of these is quite nasty.

:09:04. > :09:13.For 40 5am. The start of the day for this bakery delivery driver. The end

:09:14. > :09:16.of a night for this hungry guy in white trousers.

:09:17. > :09:19.He approaches the van and takes a box full of goodies, but a

:09:20. > :09:25.determined delivery man is having none of it. The driver tried to

:09:26. > :09:28.wrestle the box and bottle from the man.

:09:29. > :09:34.Then, the thief turns nasty. Punches are thrown and even kicks him in the

:09:35. > :09:37.face while he is on the floor. The delivery man suffered concussion and

:09:38. > :09:42.hearing loss. He might not have got away with

:09:43. > :09:51.anything, but inflicted some nasty injuries.

:09:52. > :09:54.Get in touch. Monday afternoon in February last year.

:09:55. > :10:00.These shoppers are minding their own business. Keep your eye on the man

:10:01. > :10:03.in the blue coat and Red Hat. Whilst a customer is browsing, he

:10:04. > :10:09.takes a shine to the contents of her trolley. He snatches something from

:10:10. > :10:15.her handbag and makes a quick x it. Police say this is him after taking

:10:16. > :10:20.off his hat. This man stole over ?150 in cash and

:10:21. > :10:28.sentimental photographs. If you know him, picked up the phone now.

:10:29. > :10:35.-- pic. The security driver has entered a shop in this area in

:10:36. > :10:39.Burnley to take the takings. Everyone is going about their

:10:40. > :10:43.ordinary morning routine when, suddenly, a man dressed in black,

:10:44. > :10:48.launches himself over the tills. He bursts into the office and goes

:10:49. > :10:53.straight for the safe. Within seconds, he has grabbed six grand in

:10:54. > :10:56.cash, and hold himself back over the counter.

:10:57. > :10:59.He left towards Middlesex Avenue, Ben Sycamore Avenue. We need a name

:11:00. > :11:02.for this bold bandit. If you recognised anyone,

:11:03. > :11:04.get on the phone now. Calls are free from landlines

:11:05. > :11:09.and mobile phones. Text CW, space and

:11:10. > :11:14.then your message. Texts will be charged at your

:11:15. > :11:30.standard message rate. I wonder if Michelle is still

:11:31. > :11:35.hanging around with the fire fighters?

:11:36. > :11:40.I certainly am. In this scenario, I have fallen ten feet onto the ledge,

:11:41. > :11:42.part of a purpose-built building where the fire fighters train for

:11:43. > :11:44.emergency situations. With me is training

:11:45. > :11:53.manager Adam Longden. Tell Watt real-life emergency

:11:54. > :12:01.situations this prepares you for? For children who find their way into

:12:02. > :12:05.quarries, building site in -- Building sites. They may find

:12:06. > :12:10.themselves trapped at height or fallen into the ground. We need to

:12:11. > :12:16.have safe access to recover them to get them to medical treatment.

:12:17. > :12:20.You have used these training skills. Yes, children climbing down a cliff

:12:21. > :12:25.face and quarry, they realised it was a lot higher and more dangerous

:12:26. > :12:32.and through panic they froze. We used this equipment and our

:12:33. > :12:38.training to stabilise them until we could bring rope rescue teams.

:12:39. > :12:40.Thank you. We will have a go at this training exercise.

:12:41. > :12:44.Taking me up the wall is Paul Buttery.

:12:45. > :12:48.My role in this rescue would be to protect yourself as we are going up

:12:49. > :12:54.the wall, and communicate with the team above.

:12:55. > :12:56.I will also be communicating with yourself so you understand what is

:12:57. > :13:03.required of you. And giving you reassurance and

:13:04. > :13:06.checking your health and well-being. What kind of warning signs are you

:13:07. > :13:17.looking for? I will be checking your responses to

:13:18. > :13:23.questions. Checking if you appeared confused, slurring your speech, if

:13:24. > :13:28.you are losing consciousness. Maintaining, checking you are

:13:29. > :13:31.maintaining an airway and your breathing and circulation.

:13:32. > :13:38.Communicating that to the team above.

:13:39. > :13:44.You have done a very good job. I am officially rescued. Join us later

:13:45. > :13:48.because there is more in store. I am glad you are safe and sound!

:13:49. > :13:51.Still to come... On patrol with the traffic cops,

:13:52. > :13:54.as they try to stop Vehicle failing to stop,

:13:55. > :13:57.failing to stop. And John's pigeons were a reminder

:13:58. > :14:06.of the son he lost - When this went up in flames,

:14:07. > :14:15.I lost my son again. But, first, it's that time

:14:16. > :14:18.of year when people finish college or university,

:14:19. > :14:19.and start thinking And, for many, that

:14:20. > :14:24.search begins online. But, increasingly, fraudsters

:14:25. > :14:27.are tapping into this market, and ripping people off,

:14:28. > :14:30.giving them false hope that they've I'm delighted to welcome back

:14:31. > :14:34.Detective Inspector Katie Balls from the National Fraud

:14:35. > :14:39.Intelligence Bureau, Katie just explain a bit

:14:40. > :14:52.about how job fraud works. Job fraud covers everything from

:14:53. > :14:56.low-level entry, factory work, right through to high-level 6-figure jobs

:14:57. > :15:01.in the City. What we find increasingly with fraudsters is they

:15:02. > :15:05.are becoming sophisticated, doing research, looking at your Facebook

:15:06. > :15:11.page, Twitter account, LinkedIn profiles. Getting to know your

:15:12. > :15:14.skills and experience and effectively becoming headhunters to

:15:15. > :15:18.set you up with the dream job and to try to get you to apply for it.

:15:19. > :15:20.Well, Tia Hart was targeted online by job fraudsters

:15:21. > :15:22.after she thought she'd landed a job.

:15:23. > :15:27.She lost ?100 after completing a fake criminal record check.

:15:28. > :15:34.They seemed professional, they asked have you done receptionist roles

:15:35. > :15:39.before, how much experience have you got? It seemed like normal

:15:40. > :15:44.questions. They said I needed a background check and they asked for

:15:45. > :15:49.my address, National Insurance, passport details I put into it. The

:15:50. > :15:53.next day I tried phoning the number and it kept ringing and within a

:15:54. > :15:59.week or two the number was disconnected. I was out of work. For

:16:00. > :16:01.them to find it OK to take my money when I did not have it, it is not

:16:02. > :16:02.fair. Thankfully, I'm pleased to say Tia

:16:03. > :16:05.has now found a job. But Katie, how could she have known

:16:06. > :16:13.that the check was fake? You need to check with the company

:16:14. > :16:20.directly and find out their procedures but better still, look at

:16:21. > :16:27.the Safer Jobs website. They are experts and are happy to tell you if

:16:28. > :16:31.the request is legitimate. ?100 might not seem the huge amount but

:16:32. > :16:35.the scale of this fraud is massive and there are different ways the

:16:36. > :16:41.fraudsters work. We also see fraudsters trying to steal identity

:16:42. > :16:47.details and financial details and I am sure people can remember a case

:16:48. > :16:53.few years when fraudsters posted fake adverts on the Gumtree website

:16:54. > :16:57.and people thought they were applying for jobs at Harrods but

:16:58. > :17:05.when they downloaded, malware was installed and they stilled -- stole

:17:06. > :17:12.money. What should people do if they suspect an advert is fake? I have

:17:13. > :17:18.mentioned the Safer Jobs website. Take a look. Alarm bells need to

:17:19. > :17:22.ring if you are asked to pay upfront fees for vetting checks and the

:17:23. > :17:27.like. Watch out if nobody picks up the phone or if the contact e-mail

:17:28. > :17:31.address is something like a Hotmail account. They can sometimes be

:17:32. > :17:38.fraudulent. If you have been a victim, report to police fire Action

:17:39. > :17:44.Fraud because that is the only way we can take down the websites and

:17:45. > :17:47.bring offenders to justice. Thanks. Great advice. You will be back next

:17:48. > :17:50.Monday with more advice and we will see you then.

:17:51. > :17:52.Behind me, you can see firefighters training to cut their way

:17:53. > :18:04.a situation that happens all too often after an accident.

:18:05. > :18:07.First, I spent a very dramatic evening with traffic police

:18:08. > :18:22.It is Friday night. I have joined these two PCs on patrol. We are

:18:23. > :18:27.looking for people driving in a manner that is not normal to members

:18:28. > :18:32.of the public, such as speeding, cutting in and out of traffic. Often

:18:33. > :18:37.these drivers have been drinking or have been taking drugs, a particular

:18:38. > :18:43.problem at weekends. People getting ready to go out and drink, also the

:18:44. > :18:48.element to take drugs at the same time and that is where we need to

:18:49. > :18:57.catch them. It is not long before we get our first shout. We had a report

:18:58. > :19:02.of a car driven along that has hit four parked cars. It has driven off

:19:03. > :19:07.and not stopped at the scene. Having smashed into four Carles, we need to

:19:08. > :19:18.get there fast before this dangerous driver hits anything else. -- four

:19:19. > :19:21.cars. It sounds like it has been located. We are turning around and

:19:22. > :19:28.heading back on the M1 motorway. Pretty soon, the car heads our way.

:19:29. > :19:35.Time to wait for the driver to come to us. The vehicle, at any moment,

:19:36. > :19:42.will come past. They are waiting to intercept it. We are keeping our

:19:43. > :19:46.eyes open. As a family liaison officer, Steve has seen first-hand

:19:47. > :19:51.the impact dangerous driving has on families. It happens too often, it

:19:52. > :19:55.is horrendous, and we have to pick up the pieces, knock on someone

:19:56. > :20:07.smack the door and wreak devastation on them. -- knock on a door.

:20:08. > :20:11.Families like these, with both couples the victim of the same

:20:12. > :20:23.horrific Boxing Day hit and run in Doncaster. He was driving along the

:20:24. > :20:28.road and went straight into him at 55, 60 mph. My dad was hit so hard

:20:29. > :20:32.he went over the school railings and into the playground. My dad was

:20:33. > :20:42.taken to hospital but unfortunately my mother was pronounced dead at one

:20:43. > :20:50.o'clock that morning. Her mother and stepdad were also killed. We feel

:20:51. > :20:54.angry, it was not an accident. He went out there knowing he had drink

:20:55. > :21:02.and drugs in his system and drove a vehicle and caused this. The driver

:21:03. > :21:07.of the car, Ricky Hatton worth, was jailed for eight years for causing

:21:08. > :21:18.death and serious injury by dangerous driving -- Hepworth.

:21:19. > :21:41.Tonight, the waiting game is almost over. Oh, my gosh. We are behind

:21:42. > :21:52.this vehicle. We are going to try to stop this vehicle now. The vehicle

:21:53. > :21:59.is failing to stop. The speed is 50. The risk at this time is medium. Can

:22:00. > :22:01.we have authority, section three? We are going to have to stop this

:22:02. > :22:15.vehicle. Coming up to a corner. Stand by. Take him out. Take him

:22:16. > :22:42.out. You have got it. I cannot believe what I have just

:22:43. > :22:46.seen. The driver has no idea whatsoever what he is doing. The

:22:47. > :22:51.whole window was smashed in and he was driving without tyres. These

:22:52. > :23:03.guys properly intercepted it and my heart is beating. I am in shock. His

:23:04. > :23:09.test for drugs is negative but he is arrested for being twice the legal

:23:10. > :23:14.limit for alcohol. You are under arrest for driving over the

:23:15. > :23:20.prescribed limit. We have sirens on, lights on, he knows we are there and

:23:21. > :23:26.he was intent on getting away. There is only one way to do it, we have to

:23:27. > :23:31.take him out. Yes, because damage to our car and his, but he has not

:23:32. > :23:36.killed anybody. For something that happened so quickly you were so

:23:37. > :23:41.calm. I was sitting in the back, thinking, what is happening? It is

:23:42. > :23:46.training and experience. Sometimes you have to do things you do not

:23:47. > :23:52.want to do in this job. You have to grasp the nettle and go for it. As

:23:53. > :23:55.the wreckage has cleared, there is only one thing left for the police

:23:56. > :24:03.to do, to take the driver to the cells. That really was quite an

:24:04. > :24:08.evening. I did not think at the start of the patrol we would end up

:24:09. > :24:09.ramming a drink-driver of the road. It was scary, but the officers were

:24:10. > :24:11.so good. You may remember that last week

:24:12. > :24:23.I was cut out of a car, Today I am on the reverse of the

:24:24. > :24:28.action. The firefighters are cutting into the car. I am having a go. You

:24:29. > :24:36.will talk me through it. It is heavy kit. It is extremely heavy. Battery

:24:37. > :24:41.powered and providing 70 tonnes of pressure. When I was trapped in the

:24:42. > :24:47.car last week, I did not get a sense of what was happening around me. But

:24:48. > :24:53.talk me through what this process is. There will be simultaneous

:24:54. > :25:01.activity and ultimately we are trying to prevent casualty injuries

:25:02. > :25:04.from getting any worse while providing maximum space the

:25:05. > :25:11.paramedics to get in. Is this ready? OK. I will leave you to it. Are

:25:12. > :25:19.there many situations when you have to do things like this? Yes stop

:25:20. > :25:26.road traffic collisions occur daily. And quite often, procedures like

:25:27. > :25:31.this will take place pretty much on a daily basis. You need a lot of

:25:32. > :25:36.people involved. The training for Cruise takes place every day. It is

:25:37. > :25:40.teamwork, it is coordinated. It is not just the Fire Service, it is in

:25:41. > :25:45.conjunction with the police and Ambulance Service. It is clear the

:25:46. > :25:47.cutters are important in saving people'slives.

:25:48. > :25:49.Well, with me is Dale Gardiner, a station commander

:25:50. > :25:51.with the neighbouring West Yorkshire Fire And Rescue

:25:52. > :25:55.Dale, you're here to tell us about a really worrying theft?

:25:56. > :26:02.On Tuesday, the 19th of April, ?21,000 of equipment was taken from

:26:03. > :26:14.Meltham fire station, including a thermal image camera. This left the

:26:15. > :26:19.fire engine underequipped for some hours. How dangerous is this kit in

:26:20. > :26:22.the wrong hands? Extremely dangerous. Firefighters use the

:26:23. > :26:26.equipment on a daily basis to understand the kit. Individuals who

:26:27. > :26:28.do not have that knowledge will put themselves at risk and those around

:26:29. > :26:30.them. Thanks. Back to the studio. As we just heard, these tools

:26:31. > :26:32.are really dangerous The Fire Service needs

:26:33. > :26:35.them to save lives. Police need your help to track down

:26:36. > :26:47.the first lot of wanted faces. He was jailed for three years

:26:48. > :26:51.and three months for robbery, But he's failed to stick

:26:52. > :26:56.to the conditions of his release Cranny is 24 and has what's

:26:57. > :27:00.described as blotchy, marked skin. He also has a scar to

:27:01. > :27:04.the right side of his head. Detectives want to question him

:27:05. > :27:09.in connection with a number of thefts from jewellers

:27:10. > :27:13.across the country. He's 30 and has a Liverpudlian

:27:14. > :27:16.accent, a scar on the right side of his head and the name

:27:17. > :27:18."Kelly Hunter" tattooed He travels extensively by train

:27:19. > :27:22.to Devon, Cornwall, Derby, He was arrested in connection

:27:23. > :27:33.with a fight outside a nightclub in Bedford town centre

:27:34. > :27:36.in which two men were injured. He was released on police

:27:37. > :27:40.bail, but has failed to return to detectives

:27:41. > :27:41.for further questioning. Originally from Poland,

:27:42. > :27:43.Minkowski is 26 Finally, we have

:27:44. > :27:51.Aristides Aristidou. He was due to appear before

:27:52. > :27:57.Preston Crown Court in connection with the theft of more

:27:58. > :27:59.than ?57,000 from his employer, He has a London accent

:28:00. > :28:06.and is six feet tall. If you know where any of these faces

:28:07. > :28:09.are please call and text Now, we all need a helping hand

:28:10. > :28:16.every now and again. But, as the victim in our next case

:28:17. > :28:22.found, not all good not all Good Samaritans

:28:23. > :28:34.are as they seem. Born and bred in Leeds, Tony is a

:28:35. > :28:39.well known character in the area. I do love dressing up. I put my

:28:40. > :28:49.headdress on, on Saturday morning. Nobody is about. I put the music on.

:28:50. > :28:53.And I am shouting. Everyone comes in and goes mad.

:28:54. > :28:57.Although he suffers from diabetes and other medical conditions, he

:28:58. > :29:05.doesn't let that stop him. I love dancing. I don't mean

:29:06. > :29:11.standing in a result of the room. I mean proper dancing.

:29:12. > :29:15.Tango, bolts, everything. It does mean he can't walk far. He needs a

:29:16. > :29:21.mobility scooter if you need to pop to the shops.

:29:22. > :29:25.For me, it was a life-saver. I could get out, I can do my own shopping. I

:29:26. > :29:32.don't have to rely on anybody going shopping.

:29:33. > :29:36.Last September, Tony headed out for the afternoon, planning to do a spot

:29:37. > :29:39.of shopping at his local supermarket.

:29:40. > :29:45.On his mobility scooter, it takes him over 20 minutes to get there.

:29:46. > :29:50.He got to the shop at around 3pm. Although he likes to be independent,

:29:51. > :29:55.Tony does have difficulty with the high shelves.

:29:56. > :30:02.I went around. Down each aisle, I was looking for groceries. And then

:30:03. > :30:08.this woman offered to help because she saw I was struggling.

:30:09. > :30:13.CCTV shows the woman accompanying Tony around the supermarket. She was

:30:14. > :30:16.only too happy to help. I went to the counter, put

:30:17. > :30:21.everything on the counter to be paid for.

:30:22. > :30:25.By the time he had finished paying, Tony realised he had too many

:30:26. > :30:28.shopping bags to carry on his own. She said she would carry the rest of

:30:29. > :30:32.the barracks for me. She walked to the side while I drove

:30:33. > :30:38.down. The woman volunteered to carry the

:30:39. > :30:41.shopping bags all the way to his home.

:30:42. > :30:50.I thought, that is a good Samaritan. I wish people were more like that.

:30:51. > :30:56.She even agreed to bring the shopping up to his flat.

:30:57. > :31:02.I came in, I said, put the groceries in the doorway, and I want to go to

:31:03. > :31:10.the toilet. I will put this down here for you.

:31:11. > :31:15.Of course, I went into the toilet. I have to go now, she shattered.

:31:16. > :31:20.I said, thank your for your help. If I see you, I will buy you a drink

:31:21. > :31:24.next time. But Tony was soon to find out that

:31:25. > :31:31.the good Samaritan was only after one thing.

:31:32. > :31:34.My bedroom door was open. My jacket was on the floor.

:31:35. > :31:39.I thought, that is strange. I went to pick it up and found it lighter.

:31:40. > :31:43.I put my hand in my pocket to find my wallet.

:31:44. > :31:48.No wallet. And it wasn't only his wallet.

:31:49. > :31:55.On the floor was my baseball cap which I had bought from America. The

:31:56. > :32:00.baseball cap was covered in, covering the jar with the money in.

:32:01. > :32:04.It contained all the money Tony had been saving to see his brother in

:32:05. > :32:09.America. I set my heart on going to America

:32:10. > :32:14.to see my brother for Christmas. It took nearly two years to fill it.

:32:15. > :32:16.Police are determined to find the woman who tricked her way into his

:32:17. > :32:22.home. He had his money from his jacket,

:32:23. > :32:28.?80 in cash. He had a money jar taken containing

:32:29. > :32:32.?500 in pound coins. He obviously thought he had met a

:32:33. > :32:35.really good Samaritan, someone who was willing to do him such a good

:32:36. > :32:39.turn. Then the disappointment to find she

:32:40. > :32:43.really wasn't is quite devastating for him.

:32:44. > :32:50.If you think you know her, or know where she lives, or know of her,

:32:51. > :32:54.please, please, get in touch. It could be you next time.

:32:55. > :32:55.Well, the good news is Tony's friends rallied

:32:56. > :32:59.But police still need to catch that woman.

:33:00. > :33:05.If you know who she is, get in touch!

:33:06. > :33:08.Now, our next case involves a bold burglar who police believe targeted

:33:09. > :33:11.a string of houses in one night in Derbyshire.

:33:12. > :33:15.They think he broke into at least five houses in Denby

:33:16. > :33:18.overnight between Friday, March 25th and Saturday 26th.

:33:19. > :33:23.CCTV captures him walking in the back garden of this

:33:24. > :33:26.house in Breach Road, wearing a balaclava,

:33:27. > :33:29.and later heading out of the front driveway and onto the street.

:33:30. > :33:39.A taxi goes pass just a few seconds later at around 10:30pm.

:33:40. > :33:41.Police also have this footage from other properties

:33:42. > :33:43.in Danesby Rise and Denby Bottles on the same date.

:33:44. > :33:47.Detectives think that the infrared CCTV makes the clothing

:33:48. > :33:54.Cash, jewellery and a silver tankard from a child's christening

:33:55. > :33:57.and engagement rings were just some of the items stolen.

:33:58. > :34:13.Clearly very sentimental pieces of jewellery.

:34:14. > :34:20.been in the area of Shipley on the night of first May.

:34:21. > :34:22.That night, two other properties were targeted just three

:34:23. > :34:23.miles away from Denby, and police believe

:34:24. > :34:26.This footage shows a taxi at around 1.30am.

:34:27. > :34:28.These people may have witnessed something,

:34:29. > :34:33.Finally, eight miles away in Nottingham, CCTV picks up these

:34:34. > :34:35.people attempting to use a bank card stolen from one of the

:34:36. > :34:40.Well, if you have any information or think you recognise anyone

:34:41. > :34:48.in the CCTV, then call the usual number now.

:34:49. > :34:51.Next, police here in South Yorkshire need your help to solve a crime

:34:52. > :35:01.that's left one racing pigeon enthusiast truly heartbroken.

:35:02. > :35:10.every single day for the past 50 years, John Holmes has visited his

:35:11. > :35:16.allotment in Barnsley. This is where the 74-year-old keeps

:35:17. > :35:19.his precious racing pigeons, paring them for conditions as far afield as

:35:20. > :35:40.France. I started with a three-year-old.

:35:41. > :35:44.We have always got on. To sit here waiting for pigeons coming from

:35:45. > :35:51.various bases is brilliant. Totally brilliant. But racing

:35:52. > :35:56.pigeons was always far more than a hobby for John, it was precious time

:35:57. > :36:01.he shared with his son, Mark. He would have many hours down here,

:36:02. > :36:05.my lad. Every Sunday afternoon we would go for a drink down to the

:36:06. > :36:11.club. About 1:30pm, we would be arguing

:36:12. > :36:20.about pigeons, that's how we work. Just over a year ago, all of that

:36:21. > :36:27.came to a tragic end when Marx died. He had lung cancer through as best

:36:28. > :36:31.tossed. He didn't survive it. After his death, the allotment

:36:32. > :36:38.became an important place of remembrance for John.

:36:39. > :36:43.It was a special place for Mark, a special place for me, definite.

:36:44. > :36:54.A lot of good memories. A lot of love.

:36:55. > :37:03.Three months ago, John was paying his daily visit to the coop and the

:37:04. > :37:09.birds he used to share with his son. 2pm, I went home, everything was all

:37:10. > :37:11.right, in its place. But, in the early hours of the

:37:12. > :37:27.morning, there was a break in. All his birds, around 90 pigeons,

:37:28. > :37:50.were trapped, as the fire took hold. John Heard the news and brushed down

:37:51. > :37:54.to the allotment. These pictures were films that

:37:55. > :38:02.morning. I came straight down here. And the

:38:03. > :38:08.site, it was enough to sit on anybody. There wasn't a pigeon from

:38:09. > :38:12.one end of the allotment to the other end of the allotment. Black

:38:13. > :38:20.ashes. Black ashes and bits of metal.

:38:21. > :38:24.And it seems the arsonist may actually have been targeting the

:38:25. > :38:29.pigeons. Dave Harrison has an allotment

:38:30. > :38:34.nearby. He lost all his birds the same night when his coop was also

:38:35. > :38:40.torched. It was smouldering when I arrived.

:38:41. > :38:47.Everything was gone, everything. It has just been wiped out, everything.

:38:48. > :38:57.Roughly 130 birds. The people who have done it really need getting.

:38:58. > :39:02.Whoever started the fires killed around 200 pigeons. But the damage

:39:03. > :39:07.and emotional impact on John goes far beyond that.

:39:08. > :39:12.What other high done to deserve this? -- what have I done to deserve

:39:13. > :39:20.this? I thought about my son. I sat and I

:39:21. > :39:24.cried and cried, I have cried ever since.

:39:25. > :39:29.When this went up in flames, I'd lost my son again.

:39:30. > :39:31.Well, if you have any information on that fire

:39:32. > :39:36.As you saw, John's devastated, and the police are hoping someone

:39:37. > :39:39.in the local community knows who did this.

:39:40. > :39:43.Numbers are on the screen if you have any information.

:39:44. > :39:46.When it comes to fighting fires, the nightmare scenario

:39:47. > :39:49.is when someone's home is alight and they're trapped inside.

:39:50. > :39:52.Through this door is what's called the realistic fire

:39:53. > :40:07.We have fireproof protective glass. What are we facing?

:40:08. > :40:11.When the gas burners work, shortly they will, the crew will come in,

:40:12. > :40:15.they have been informed there is a house on fire involving a bedroom

:40:16. > :40:20.and they think the occupier is probably here.

:40:21. > :40:22.What is the process, what are they doing?

:40:23. > :40:25.The fire fighters will assess the situation, they will have

:40:26. > :40:29.information where they think the casualty is and they will make the

:40:30. > :40:32.quickest way possible as safely as possible, while putting out the

:40:33. > :40:38.fire. What are their priorities? Watching

:40:39. > :40:42.out for flashover is where we go from a fire in a room to room fully

:40:43. > :40:47.involved in fire. That could encapsulate the whole

:40:48. > :40:51.room and is highly dangerous to fire fighters.

:40:52. > :40:55.How vital is this training to you? Fires are extremely dangerous but

:40:56. > :40:59.only for the occupiers but the fire fighters. They train on a daily

:41:00. > :41:03.basis and have realistic training to utilise the skills they have been

:41:04. > :41:07.taught, their equipment, to make sure everything buns as smoothly as

:41:08. > :41:10.safely as possible. What tips do you have the people to

:41:11. > :41:16.make sure house fires don't start in the first place?

:41:17. > :41:21.We see mobile phone chargers, electronic cigarette fires causing

:41:22. > :41:26.fires. It is important when charging your phone, choose the one provided.

:41:27. > :41:29.Unplug it when it is fully charged and have a good night-time routine

:41:30. > :41:32.to make sure everything is turned off including your cooker.

:41:33. > :41:38.It is extremely important every householder has a working smoke

:41:39. > :41:43.alarm on every level of the house. If you need information, contact

:41:44. > :41:46.your local Fire Service. Unfortunately we couldn't see the

:41:47. > :41:48.fire but please take note, this is very important.

:41:49. > :41:53.Just time for an update on what's come in on the phones.

:41:54. > :42:01.Lots of you are understandably outraged at the horrific murder of

:42:02. > :42:05.pensioner Tommy Ward in Maltby. Already, we have had several calls

:42:06. > :42:08.including one of particular interest that detectives are looking into

:42:09. > :42:12.right away. Any information you can give,

:42:13. > :42:16.however small it may seem, is really important, keep those calls coming

:42:17. > :42:23.in, thank you forgetting in touch. On Friday, we showed you this Wanted

:42:24. > :42:27.Faces, detectives in Cheshire want to question him after a pensioner's

:42:28. > :42:29.bank card was taken. Possible sightings have come in.

:42:30. > :42:35.Michelle, what's planned for tomorrow?

:42:36. > :42:39.We're joining up with the National Police Air Service -

:42:40. > :42:41.it runs most of the police helicopters you see

:42:42. > :42:45.We'll be live from one of their bases near Wakefield,

:42:46. > :42:49.They'll also be telling us about a new way of protecting

:42:50. > :42:55.their helicopter crews from people who try to dazzle them with lasers.

:42:56. > :42:59.It sounds shocking. Join us tomorrow.

:43:00. > :43:01.For more details about the crimes on today's programme,

:43:02. > :43:06.Before we go, here's another look at today's Wanted Faces.

:43:07. > :43:08.If you know where they are, get in touch.

:43:09. > :43:54.We'll be back tomorrow morning, until then, take care.

:43:55. > :43:57.Can't you see we're both investigating the same thing?

:43:58. > :44:00.This is big, and I'm going to prove it.

:44:01. > :44:04.How many people would you kill for ?1 billion a year?
