:00:09. > :00:12.On today's show, the reckless act of vandalism, which nearly cost

:00:13. > :00:24.I saw the hole in the windscreen, felt the pain in my chest.

:00:25. > :00:26.I felt like I'd just been pinned to my chair.

:00:27. > :00:29.And there was just pain radiating to every part of my body.

:00:30. > :00:32.And I'm getting in the saddle, finding out how police are keeping

:00:33. > :01:07.Hello, and welcome to Crimewatch Roadshow.

:01:08. > :01:10.As always, we need your help to solve the crimes

:01:11. > :01:13.Also today, the opportunist thief who ran a man down with his own car.

:01:14. > :01:15.It was only when the paramedics put me in the ambulance,

:01:16. > :01:18.only then I realised what had happened.

:01:19. > :01:20.And, caught on camera - the armed gang that made

:01:21. > :01:27.So many people on that route on that day had got cameras with them -

:01:28. > :01:31.it's unlucky for them, but it's great for us.

:01:32. > :01:34.Today, Michelle is back in Manchester.

:01:35. > :01:42.We're at the Museum of Transport, and it's rather apt, really,

:01:43. > :01:45.as today we're looking at crime on the move.

:01:46. > :01:48.Later, we'll be out and about with police as they take

:01:49. > :01:53.to two wheels themselves to catch drivers putting cyclists at risk.

:01:54. > :01:57.Now, to our first appeal, and for a tram driver whose day

:01:58. > :02:17.Manchester's metrolink is now the largest light Railway in the UK. It

:02:18. > :02:24.covers almost 60 miles, with a fleet of close to 100 trams. And driver

:02:25. > :02:30.Sean has been operating metrolink trams for two years. The main thing

:02:31. > :02:33.I enjoy about it is the challenge of driving a tram, and driving it

:02:34. > :02:40.around the city and actually helping Manchester as a whole. I am

:02:41. > :02:45.Manchester born and bred. Driving a tram, it is levels of concentration,

:02:46. > :02:49.maintaining the safety of passengers. I personally feel it is

:02:50. > :02:52.the best job I have ever done, I enjoy it, I always look forward

:02:53. > :03:00.coming into work and not many people can say that. Looking forward to

:03:01. > :03:05.coming to work in the morning. On the 8th of May, Sean was working

:03:06. > :03:11.from mid-afternoon, and was chewed to finish soon after midnight. I was

:03:12. > :03:17.just plodding on, doing what I was doing, it really was just a

:03:18. > :03:21.run-of-the-mill day when I was just getting on doing my job. Going on,

:03:22. > :03:26.enjoyed my break, had a little chat and a laugh of the guys I work with.

:03:27. > :03:32.By around 9:30pm, the end of his shift was inside. I was heading to

:03:33. > :03:38.Rochdale for the second time of the day. The tram left the burqas.

:03:39. > :03:46.Anthony a footbridge, which run over the tracks. It was dark, just past

:03:47. > :04:01.twilight, so it very, very dark. Hit 50 mph. I didn't actually see

:04:02. > :04:09.anything happen. It was the white flash of the glass exploding out of

:04:10. > :04:16.the windscreen. Every thought in my head, it was literally the biggest

:04:17. > :04:20.shock I've had in my life. Shattered glass flew into Sean's face. The

:04:21. > :04:28.class went everywhere in the cab, hit my face. The huge chunk of

:04:29. > :04:34.stones slammed into the cab and fit Sean in the torso. I saw the hole in

:04:35. > :04:39.the windscreen, and felt the pain in my chest. I felt like I had just

:04:40. > :04:43.been pinned to my chair with the impact, and it was just pain

:04:44. > :04:48.radiating to every part of my body. Adrenaline and training kicked in,

:04:49. > :04:54.as Sean activated the driver safety device to stop the tram and raised

:04:55. > :04:57.the alarm. The last thing I remember was lying in the glass, and hearing

:04:58. > :05:10.the alarm of the driver safety device activated. Sean blacked out.

:05:11. > :05:15.A short time later, he came to. There were passengers banging on the

:05:16. > :05:21.cab door. Using all his strength, Sean managed to reach the handle to

:05:22. > :05:24.let passengers in. With help, Sean was able to drive the tram to the

:05:25. > :05:30.next Asian, where an ambulance was waiting. -- to the next station. The

:05:31. > :05:35.driver could have been killed of that slab had hit on the head, the

:05:36. > :05:40.tram could have derailed, anything could have happened, really.

:05:41. > :05:48.Miraculously, Sean suffered no major injuries this reckless act. I had a

:05:49. > :05:52.deep impact winter my chest and lots of small cuts, it could have been a

:05:53. > :05:55.lot worse. If that rock was 12 inches higher, it would have

:05:56. > :06:00.impacted my face and it would have been a totally different story. They

:06:01. > :06:03.very lucky escape. Although his recovery is going well, Sean is

:06:04. > :06:08.still getting over the trauma caused by the crash. Physically, I feel

:06:09. > :06:15.beaten, I am just constantly sore, not sleeping well. Psychologically,

:06:16. > :06:17.there is quite a lot of fear, just nervousness, general nervousness.

:06:18. > :06:22.Certain things I don't feel ready to do yet. I don't feel comfortable

:06:23. > :06:27.going into a tram cab at this moment in time. This person who has injured

:06:28. > :06:30.me has taken the choice out of my life.

:06:31. > :06:33.And Inspector Cecelia Oakley from Greater Manchester Police's

:06:34. > :06:43.We saw in the film just what a frightening experience it must have

:06:44. > :06:47.been for Sean. Not only that, it could have been a lot worse.

:06:48. > :06:51.Absolutely, when you look at the size of the slab that has gone

:06:52. > :06:54.through the window and the height it was thrown from, potentially it

:06:55. > :06:59.could have hit him on the head and cause serious injuries or a

:07:00. > :07:02.fatality. And whoever did this, you know, they are probably not aware of

:07:03. > :07:07.the consequences and the seriousness of the offence. That said, and as

:07:08. > :07:11.you say, it is lucky he was wearing glasses. Yes, so when the window

:07:12. > :07:18.smashed, his eyes were protected from the shards of glass. Where

:07:19. > :07:25.exactly did this happen? At durch in Oldham, over the top of the

:07:26. > :07:29.footbridge, which is in a quiet area of Oldham, plenty of stones around,

:07:30. > :07:32.and children play in that area as well. On the positive side, there

:07:33. > :07:38.have been proactive steps that have been put in place to make our trams

:07:39. > :07:42.and buses safer. Yes, in the aftermath of the incident there was

:07:43. > :07:47.high visibility patrols in the area, and since then we have recruited up

:07:48. > :07:53.to 50 PCS ohs, and they will be doing proactive work on trams and

:07:54. > :07:56.buses, reassurance, and dealing with any incidents of anti-social

:07:57. > :07:58.behaviour on the trams and buses. That is really good to hear. Thank

:07:59. > :08:03.you very much. If you can help, call now,

:08:04. > :08:06.using the numbers on screen. And it's worth knowing that

:08:07. > :08:11.victims of any crime can Next up, do you recognise any

:08:12. > :08:19.of today's criminals caught on CCTV? Just so you know, these

:08:20. > :08:30.are pretty serious. It's mid-morning on this busy street

:08:31. > :08:36.in Luton. Pay close attention to this bloke getting out of the park

:08:37. > :08:43.car in the right-hand corner of the screen. He hangs around for quite

:08:44. > :08:47.some time. What is he waiting for? A while later, a dark coloured vehicle

:08:48. > :08:51.pulls up and a man gets out. The bloke waiting spots him, and makes

:08:52. > :08:57.sure he catches his attention before heading over to engage him in

:08:58. > :09:02.conversation. All seems friendly, but out of nowhere the bloke throws

:09:03. > :09:07.a liquid into the man's face, who panics and runs off. The attacker

:09:08. > :09:13.sprints to his car and makes his getaway at speed. Police would like

:09:14. > :09:16.to speak to this man, captured on CCTV earlier that morning in the

:09:17. > :09:22.nearby shop, asking when the victim would arrive. The victim suffered

:09:23. > :09:25.minor scarring from the industrial fluid used, and this vicious and

:09:26. > :09:33.premeditated attack has greatly affected him. Now police need your

:09:34. > :09:38.help to catch his cowardly attack. -- attacker. It's the night shift at

:09:39. > :09:44.a garage in Staffordshire. Things are about to get a little hectic.

:09:45. > :09:48.Keep an eye on these hooded men making their way inside. They aren't

:09:49. > :09:53.here to pay for petrol, but they definitely want to fuel up on

:09:54. > :09:59.something. One of them threatens the shop assistant with bolt cutters,

:10:00. > :10:01.demanding he hand over the takings. Another impatient robber jumps

:10:02. > :10:07.over-the-counter, and viciously punches him in the face. Eventually,

:10:08. > :10:10.the cash draws are unlocked, and they help themselves, which is when

:10:11. > :10:17.we see the third sidekick come along. This one decides to act as a

:10:18. > :10:22.lookout, but when a customer tries to leave, he gets aggressive and

:10:23. > :10:27.lashes out, throwing punches, before eventually letting the guy go. When

:10:28. > :10:32.the cash draws are empty, the next stop is the cigarette cabinet, and

:10:33. > :10:36.now we see the fourth rubber. He whisks away their box of spoils,

:10:37. > :10:41.while the other one clutches as many scratchcards as you can. Neither of

:10:42. > :10:48.the victims were badly injured, but police need to find the four men who

:10:49. > :10:49.stole over ?2000 worth of goods. If you know who they are, you know what

:10:50. > :10:53.to do. If you can identify anyone,

:10:54. > :10:56.we need to hear from you now. Text CW, space,

:10:57. > :11:01.and then your message. Texts will be charged

:11:02. > :11:03.at your standard message rate. The address is CWR@bbc.co.uk

:11:04. > :11:09.or you can also speak Millions of us take

:11:10. > :11:18.to our bikes every week and Greater Manchester Police

:11:19. > :11:35.are determined to do everything Last year, 3.5 million miles were

:11:36. > :11:41.cycled in the UK, and in Manchester more people than ever are taking the

:11:42. > :11:46.two wheels. But when cars and bikes share the road, things can go wrong.

:11:47. > :11:51.The latest figures for the city show there were over 400 cyclists injured

:11:52. > :11:55.in road accidents in one year, and three fatalities. Sharing the road

:11:56. > :12:02.responsibly has never been so important. To tackle the problem,

:12:03. > :12:08.Greater Manchester Police have launched a scheme to help motorists

:12:09. > :12:17.overtake bikes safely. And cracking down on those who don't. You must

:12:18. > :12:22.give a cyclist at least 1.5 metres. If you cannot safely overtake a

:12:23. > :12:25.cyclist, you hang back, you don't tailgate them and put them under any

:12:26. > :12:30.pressure and wait for a safe place to overtake. What they don't realise

:12:31. > :12:34.is that if you pass to close to a cyclist it could result in putting

:12:35. > :12:40.them off cycling forever. Kieron Darbyshire works as a cycle career.

:12:41. > :12:49.One day in May, one driver got a little too close. All I hear is this

:12:50. > :12:52.exhaust, and then that was it, I just got belted. My head hit the

:12:53. > :12:59.ground first, and the next thing I know I have come to with people

:13:00. > :13:01.stood over me. Luckily, Kieron escaped without major injuries, but

:13:02. > :13:07.he's well aware things could have turned out very differently. My hips

:13:08. > :13:12.hurt, my ankles hurt, my wrists and my back hurt. I could not walk that

:13:13. > :13:16.well for maybe a couple of days. I would just be wobbling around. It

:13:17. > :13:20.probably wasn't until afterwards when it's kind of kicked in that I

:13:21. > :13:26.had been hit by a car, and I'm quite lucky that I am still around,

:13:27. > :13:28.really. Keen to cut down on collisions like this, today Greater

:13:29. > :13:34.Manchester Police have come to sail in Trafford, to pick up drivers who

:13:35. > :13:39.are not obeying the Highway code, but in order to catch them, they

:13:40. > :13:43.must take to the streets themselves. We act as a member of the public and

:13:44. > :13:47.we have cameras on the front and rear of our bicycle, we were right

:13:48. > :13:51.in the areas where complaint had been received and we wait for a

:13:52. > :13:55.vehicle to drive close to us. PCS oh Steph Payne is out on her bike and

:13:56. > :14:00.only minutes into the operation she encounters her first near miss. A

:14:01. > :14:05.man in a black Ford focus overtakes but becomes too close for comfort.

:14:06. > :14:17.Driver, this way! Do you know how much space you

:14:18. > :14:22.should give a cyclist? This man could face three points and a fine

:14:23. > :14:28.of ?100. Instead, he is happy to accept the free education on offer

:14:29. > :14:31.today. I will show you visual representation. You have got to give

:14:32. > :14:36.them at least one and a half metres. What do you think if you cannot

:14:37. > :14:41.safely overtake, what will happen? It will not end well for the

:14:42. > :14:46.cyclist. The driver has learnt his lesson but more keep coming in. A

:14:47. > :14:53.woman in a red Ford comes dangerously close. Read Ford Fiesta

:14:54. > :14:59.coming at you. She is pulled over. She should have hung back and waited

:15:00. > :15:04.until there was a clearing and put her indicator on, but she decided to

:15:05. > :15:07.squeeze in between me and the vehicle. Cameras on the front and

:15:08. > :15:14.rear and she is not happy about the way you have passed her. I

:15:15. > :15:19.apologise. I will not give you a ticket today. I did not realise I

:15:20. > :15:24.was that close, but next time I will go out a bit further. Today the team

:15:25. > :15:29.have caught seven drivers passing too close. But GMP are also

:15:30. > :15:33.encouraging members of the public to send in footage of incidents they

:15:34. > :15:38.have captured themselves, meaning it is now easier than ever for those

:15:39. > :15:42.drivers to be held accountable. Avid cyclist Graeme had a close call

:15:43. > :15:50.riding with his granddaughter on the back. He sent the footage to Greater

:15:51. > :15:54.Manchester Police. It made me quite angry because if you were driving a

:15:55. > :15:58.car near to your own child, would you drive at 30 miles an hour. A

:15:59. > :16:04.foot away from them. I cannot understand that at all. In his 50

:16:05. > :16:09.years cycling, he has encountered bad road users. There are a small

:16:10. > :16:13.number of drivers who either are not aware they should be giving you more

:16:14. > :16:19.space or in some very red cases actually are deliberately

:16:20. > :16:25.aggressive. -- rare cases. He is reassured by the approach the police

:16:26. > :16:28.are now taking. In this initiative, I have submitted many videos and I

:16:29. > :16:31.know some of those are going forward for prosecution and there is

:16:32. > :16:37.confidence it will go somewhere, somebody who understands the issues,

:16:38. > :16:41.you know they will take action. Officers hoped that by reminding

:16:42. > :16:47.motorists how to share the road, they can save lives. That tarmac we

:16:48. > :16:53.are driving on is not getting bigger, not getting any wider, and

:16:54. > :16:55.we have to respect the road. We certainly do.

:16:56. > :16:59.And Gareth Walker, who we heard from in that film, is with me now.

:17:00. > :17:01.Gareth, these near misses are really frightening.

:17:02. > :17:08.On the horse or a cycle, you have to give space. It is in the Highway

:17:09. > :17:12.Code. Just last week, you've had

:17:13. > :17:26.an incredibly near miss submitted If you see how close the cyclist is,

:17:27. > :17:32.it is millimetres from a potentially fatal or life changing collision.

:17:33. > :17:37.People do not realise you have to give vulnerable road users say. How

:17:38. > :17:45.can people get footage like this to you? Through the Operation

:17:46. > :17:49.Considerate, we are able to look at the footage online, so you send us a

:17:50. > :17:53.quick information via the e-mail address on our website, time, date,

:17:54. > :17:59.location, what has happened, whether you are driving, on a horse,

:18:00. > :18:04.bicycle, we will look at it and send it away for prosecution. The person

:18:05. > :18:08.you saw in the clip will be currently receiving a notice of

:18:09. > :18:12.intended prosecution. That is fantastic. Thank you very much. It

:18:13. > :18:15.is worth mentioning the scheme Gareth was talking about is only for

:18:16. > :18:20.people in Greater Manchester but there are similar schemes in North

:18:21. > :18:26.Wales, Cheshire and elsewhere. Transport for Greater Manchester

:18:27. > :18:30.want 10% of all journeys to be by bike or 2025. They have built many

:18:31. > :18:34.more cycle lanes and they run adult education cycle classes, to increase

:18:35. > :18:37.people's confidence on the rules of the road and make them feel more

:18:38. > :18:42.comfortable. One of the cycle instructors is with me now.

:18:43. > :18:45.Lawrence. What kind of things do you teach people? To use more of the

:18:46. > :18:49.road, make ourselves more visible, to try to encourage drivers to slow

:18:50. > :19:01.down. We do that by putting ourselves further into the road. It

:19:02. > :19:03.seems counterintuitive but it works because it makes drivers think about

:19:04. > :19:05.us. Nobody wants to run us down but sometimes they do not think. We

:19:06. > :19:08.teach cyclist to take possession more and more of the road. Being

:19:09. > :19:12.more visible is important, isn't it? It is, we do not do it by hiding by

:19:13. > :19:19.the pavement. It is raising the awareness. It is good to get out and

:19:20. > :19:23.feel confident. We see adult trainees from absolute beginners to

:19:24. > :19:30.professional cyclists, almost, it is fabulous. Thank you. I had better

:19:31. > :19:35.get some practice in myself! Get my helmet on and get going, Rav!

:19:36. > :19:37.Lots more to come this morning, including the footage that

:19:38. > :19:46.It's become a big part of policing today and it's making

:19:47. > :19:51.And the car enthusiast who lost his car and nearly

:19:52. > :19:59.I didn't know how bad of an injury it was.

:20:00. > :20:02.But first, the number of people trespassing on railway tracks has

:20:03. > :20:12.More than 8,000 people annually risk their life on the tracks.

:20:13. > :20:19.I'm joined by Inspector Becky Warren of the British Transport Police.

:20:20. > :20:27.Messing around on the railway lines is a really bad idea, isn't it?

:20:28. > :20:32.Totally. Trains can go at 125 miles an hour, you have got electricity,

:20:33. > :20:37.in the overheads or the third rail, very dangerous places to be. You

:20:38. > :20:42.should not be anywhere near the tracks. A few days ago, awful news

:20:43. > :20:47.about a youngster losing his life. On Tuesday, this week, a young

:20:48. > :20:52.person was basically electrocuted. Very tragic. People like you have to

:20:53. > :20:56.break the news, you have to do this many times. I have done it

:20:57. > :21:02.personally over 50 times and I do not want to do it again, it nor do

:21:03. > :21:07.my colleagues. We can see how dangerous it is here. What are we

:21:08. > :21:11.seeing? Someone walking up to a barrier, and it looks like he is

:21:12. > :21:15.lifting a small child over the barrier. You have got children being

:21:16. > :21:20.lifted over, they are now lifting the pram over, climbing over the

:21:21. > :21:23.barrier. As of the barriers are down, we are expecting a train, that

:21:24. > :21:28.is the point of them. They are risking their own lives and worse,

:21:29. > :21:32.they are risking their children's lives. The barriers are down for a

:21:33. > :21:36.very good reason. More clips, we can see people climbing across the

:21:37. > :21:42.tracks, the train is coming, seconds away. Another trying to climb up

:21:43. > :21:47.here. This person looks, I don't know if they are intoxicated, that

:21:48. > :21:53.was so close. And another one here... That chap, he is lucky to

:21:54. > :21:59.get away with his life. He could have lost his limbs. Really

:22:00. > :22:04.dangerous. Dancing with death, but there are other consequences as

:22:05. > :22:08.well, on a criminal point of view. Absolutely. Trespassing on the

:22:09. > :22:11.railway is an offence, you can be fined up to ?1000. We tried to

:22:12. > :22:17.educate people, give them different things we do, but they could end up

:22:18. > :22:21.in jail, worst case. People might not realise, it is a criminal

:22:22. > :22:24.offence, they could get a criminal record for trying to save a few

:22:25. > :22:31.seconds, it is not worth it. It is not at all. How are you tackling the

:22:32. > :22:35.problem? We are increasing patrols, especially in the summer months. We

:22:36. > :22:39.also have a programme called reality check, that is about getting the

:22:40. > :22:44.campaign out to parents, do they know where their kids are? Have they

:22:45. > :22:48.talk to them about rail safety? Do they know how dangerous the railway

:22:49. > :22:51.is? We are working with Network Rail and having offices in the control

:22:52. > :22:56.room to target the hotspots. Brilliant. Thank you so much for

:22:57. > :22:58.coming in. We really need to get that message across. Do not do it.

:22:59. > :23:01.Michelle. We saw earlier how police forces

:23:02. > :23:04.are moving with the times and using footage from members

:23:05. > :23:06.of the public to prosecute people But detectives could never have

:23:07. > :23:12.imagined the evidence they'd get when they appealed to the public

:23:13. > :23:29.for help after a violent robbery. In January this year, an armed gang

:23:30. > :23:33.carried out an audacious robbery of over ?16,000. Planned to the last

:23:34. > :23:44.detail, there was just one thing the robbers had not reckoned with. The

:23:45. > :23:48.eyes and ears of the public. On Wednesday, 18th of January, a guard

:23:49. > :23:52.arrived at a supermarket in Newton Heath near Manchester and began his

:23:53. > :23:58.work collecting cash from the back of the store. The G4S guard at the

:23:59. > :24:02.time was moving boxes of cash from Asda and taking empty ones into the

:24:03. > :24:07.building. But someone else had their eyes on the money. As the guard

:24:08. > :24:13.returned to his van with the loaded cash box, two men sped up on a

:24:14. > :24:22.motorbike. CCTV and body camera footage captured the attack. Open

:24:23. > :24:31.up! SHOUTING

:24:32. > :24:33.He was very aggressive towards the security guard, threaten to blind

:24:34. > :24:43.him, repeatedly, with ammonia solution. Leaving him in no

:24:44. > :24:47.uncertain terms, he could suffer a serious injury. The cash box the

:24:48. > :24:52.guard handed over contained ?16,000. The robber grabbed two bags holding

:24:53. > :25:04.around ?800 and made his escape. It was very fast, the way they made

:25:05. > :25:09.off, high-powered bike, they knew what they were doing, they had a

:25:10. > :25:11.route plan. They had also planned the next stage of their getaway

:25:12. > :25:18.which involved meeting a third person. In the green lane area of

:25:19. > :25:22.Manchester, they met up with a white van to make their escape easier,

:25:23. > :25:26.unnoticed. The trio tried desperately to open the box, but

:25:27. > :25:29.they were spotted by some local builders. The cash box proved hard

:25:30. > :25:34.to open, they were reversing the car into it against the wall, they did

:25:35. > :25:36.it a number of times, but they were being watched and they were

:25:37. > :25:40.conscious of that, so they loaded it back into the vehicle and made off.

:25:41. > :25:46.As the gang headed for the country lanes, the van was seen again.

:25:47. > :25:52.Second call from a lady on horseback. She described seeing a

:25:53. > :25:56.white van at speed inappropriate to the road, driving dangerously. That

:25:57. > :26:04.lady had a head camp on her helmet, she filmed the van and you could see

:26:05. > :26:08.it flying up the narrow road -- headcam. Narrowly avoiding colliding

:26:09. > :26:11.with a taxi. They made a last bid to avoid being caught and abandoned the

:26:12. > :26:20.van but again they were caught on camera, this time by two passing

:26:21. > :26:25.drivers. One dashcam caught the driver in red leaving the vehicle.

:26:26. > :26:29.The other captured the second robber as he ran away still carrying the

:26:30. > :26:33.cash and followed him as he fled into a nearby field. Suspicious at

:26:34. > :26:38.what he had seen, this driver followed the robber into the car

:26:39. > :26:41.park of a nearby pub. Last sighting coming across the bottom of the

:26:42. > :26:48.field, hops over the fence, inadvertently looks towards the

:26:49. > :26:52.vehicle, the dash cam, you see him carrying the cash bags, crosses the

:26:53. > :26:57.path of the vehicle and out of view. So many people on that route on that

:26:58. > :27:03.they have got cameras with them, and lucky for them, but great for us.

:27:04. > :27:07.The police later found the motorbike and the van, both were burnt out,

:27:08. > :27:11.but using the footage, they were able to recover the cash box with

:27:12. > :27:16.the 16 grand which had been hidden in the bushes. They were also able

:27:17. > :27:19.to track down the van driver who was later arrested. Craig Pearson

:27:20. > :27:24.admitted his part in the robbery and was jailed for seven years and three

:27:25. > :27:29.months after failing to give police any information about the other

:27:30. > :27:33.suspects. Detectives are determined to catch the rest of the gang. The

:27:34. > :27:38.driver of the motorbike and the man on the back who robbed the G4S

:27:39. > :27:44.guard. He is believed to be the same suspect later seen running across

:27:45. > :27:47.the field with the cash bags. The dashcam we have recovered is a very

:27:48. > :27:52.clear image of the male responsible for squirting the ammonia and making

:27:53. > :27:58.off carrying the bags, great footage, and I believe somebody out

:27:59. > :28:01.there must know who he is. Dashcam, headcam, horse riders, it has become

:28:02. > :28:06.a big part of policing today and it is making a massive difference,

:28:07. > :28:09.absolutely brilliant. You can see clearly who was involved.

:28:10. > :28:12.I'm joined now by DC Philip Caine, who is investigating

:28:13. > :28:23.Remind us where this happened. It occurred at Church street in Newton

:28:24. > :28:26.Heath. From the footage we have got, from dashcam and headcam from

:28:27. > :28:33.members of the public, we can clearly see the route the gang have

:28:34. > :28:38.taken the weather car was abandoned in Mossley. CCTV is amazing. Very

:28:39. > :28:42.clear images of one of the suspects, this is the guy with the cash bags,

:28:43. > :28:49.and you are really hoping today somebody watching and identify him.

:28:50. > :28:54.A white male, six foot tall, slim build, dark hair, we hoping somebody

:28:55. > :28:57.will recognise him. He is the mail we believe is responsible for

:28:58. > :29:03.squirting the ammonia in someone's face and he got off on the motorbike

:29:04. > :29:07.and he's running with the cash bags in Mossley. You can hear his voice

:29:08. > :29:12.on the body camera as well, can't you? You can. Hopefully someone will

:29:13. > :29:15.put the voice and the face together and call the police. And you will

:29:16. > :29:20.want to identify the motorbike rider. Very little information on

:29:21. > :29:25.him. If anyone recognises him, call the police and let us know. If you

:29:26. > :29:28.do have any information, if you recognise the suspects, please get

:29:29. > :29:30.in contact with us using the numbers on the screen.

:29:31. > :29:36.Now, moving into a new place should be an exciting time,

:29:37. > :29:38.but for many, the experience can turn

:29:39. > :29:40.from a happy to a harrowing, one as prospective tenants

:29:41. > :29:44.It's estimated that over a million pounds is lost to fake

:29:45. > :29:48.I'm with DI Mick Dodge from the City of London Police, and David Munday,

:29:49. > :30:01.David, what happened in your situation? I saw an ad online, and I

:30:02. > :30:09.went and lead the property with who I thought was the landlord.

:30:10. > :30:13.Unfortunately... Sorry. So you paid a deposit, you found this ad, you

:30:14. > :30:18.were a student at the time come you didn't have unlimited funds. That's

:30:19. > :30:22.true. You paid ?1000 for the deposit, so what went wrong? When I

:30:23. > :30:27.was supposed to move in, the landlord said before I could get the

:30:28. > :30:33.keys I had to pay him an extra month's went, and when I refused to

:30:34. > :30:38.cut off communication, and I later found out it was just an ex-tenant

:30:39. > :30:43.who kept the key. So he had ?1000, tried to get another one. Completes

:30:44. > :30:48.gamma. Mick, you have unfortunately seen this sort of thing happen

:30:49. > :30:54.before? Absolutely. It happens more than you would think. How does it

:30:55. > :30:58.work? We call it advance the fraud. They tried to get money up front

:30:59. > :31:02.view the goods, services or in this case a property, when in reality the

:31:03. > :31:04.property doesn't exist, it has been rented out to somebody else,

:31:05. > :31:10.sometimes to loads of other people, or like in your case, David, who you

:31:11. > :31:12.think is the landlord is just a complete imposter. Sadly, they

:31:13. > :31:17.target students because they know there will be a lot of people after

:31:18. > :31:22.property. There are time pressures, and a lot of demand of the market.

:31:23. > :31:27.Yes, they have to be in by a certain time, they take what is on offer. So

:31:28. > :31:31.what can people do to avoid being in this situation themselves, then? It

:31:32. > :31:34.can be tricky, but one of the most important things is to be as certain

:31:35. > :31:39.as you can the person you are dealing with is the genuine

:31:40. > :31:42.landlord. Look at documents, get a tenancy agreement, look for the gas

:31:43. > :31:46.safety certificate. If you are a student, speak to your university

:31:47. > :31:51.because they can give you advice and advise its -- advice and guidance.

:31:52. > :31:56.Never pay in cash, be sceptical if you are asked to do a money transfer

:31:57. > :32:01.service. Because there could be the same as cash. Always put money into

:32:02. > :32:05.a bank account, either an electronic bank transfer or walk into the

:32:06. > :32:10.branch, put your cash across the counter. Great advice. David, too,

:32:11. > :32:13.this type of thing, you set up an online system to help avoid it in

:32:14. > :32:23.the future? Yes. Yes, my brother, and

:32:24. > :32:25.I set up Rentprofile. Landlords can register for free,

:32:26. > :32:27.and we carry out real-time comprehensive background checks

:32:28. > :32:29.on them, so tenants can check they're dealing

:32:30. > :32:34.with the genuine landlord, And there's more details

:32:35. > :32:36.on our website about that landlord Next, detectives need your

:32:37. > :32:42.help to name the car thief who mowed down the very man whose motor he'd

:32:43. > :33:20.just stolen. 28-year-old Abu lives in Blackburn

:33:21. > :33:26.and runs the travel agencies for his family. My dad is no longer alive,

:33:27. > :33:32.so the responsibility is on my head for looking after my mum. But when

:33:33. > :33:37.he is not working, she focuses on his passion for cars. I have always

:33:38. > :33:43.liked my cars. The car I have always wanted is a BMW M5, but my wife

:33:44. > :33:49.wouldn't let me buy it. At the moment I have got a BMW 335. It is

:33:50. > :34:01.on a 62 plate. A very rare model and spec. DANCE MUSIC In March this

:34:02. > :34:06.year, Abu was having some problems with his car so he called in to see

:34:07. > :34:13.his friend at a Thai garage in Blackburn. Abu brought his car to

:34:14. > :34:19.me, the car was overheating, so he left his engine running. But while

:34:20. > :34:21.Abu was inside, he didn't realise another tune in stick thief was

:34:22. > :34:28.eyeing up his most prized possession. CCTV shows the moment

:34:29. > :34:35.that a man wearing a Hi-Vis jacket walked up to the car and got in.

:34:36. > :34:42.With the engine already running, he reversed at speed, and the alarm was

:34:43. > :34:45.raised. We heard one of his staff shouting, so we looked at the

:34:46. > :34:51.camera, that is when we realised that somebody has got into the car,

:34:52. > :34:56.and about the reverse. Instinctively, Abu and the garage

:34:57. > :35:00.staff raced towards it. I don't think I was thinking much, I just

:35:01. > :35:06.wanted to get my car back. Abu tried to stop him. I went into the driver

:35:07. > :35:10.side and tried switching off the car, I try to get him out of the car

:35:11. > :35:16.at the same time. But the man was not so easily thwarted. I just try

:35:17. > :35:20.to get him out of the car. I had my arms round his neck, tried to lift

:35:21. > :35:27.him off the seat. Despite a brave attempt to stop him, the thief

:35:28. > :35:33.accelerated, dragging Abu along the road, crushing his leg but the

:35:34. > :35:34.Fakhar Fozz Mac wheels. When he drove off, I scraped the road, the

:35:35. > :35:41.tarmac. He was left seriously injured,

:35:42. > :35:47.bleeding in the road. His friends could only watch horrified. Seeing

:35:48. > :35:52.blood everywhere, Abu's leg is literally torn to bits. I didn't

:35:53. > :35:58.know what to do. I was in shock. I didn't know how bad an injury it

:35:59. > :36:04.was. Abu's leg was torn open and he was rapidly losing blood. The

:36:05. > :36:08.paramedics put me into the ambulance, only then I realised what

:36:09. > :36:13.had happened to it. Luckily, surgeons were able to save Abu's

:36:14. > :36:18.leg, but his injuries mean he is still unable to run the family

:36:19. > :36:22.business. It has affected me quite a bit, both mentally and physically. I

:36:23. > :36:27.am struggling to get about, can't drive, can't walk for too long.

:36:28. > :36:32.Every time I put my head down trying to go to sleep, I just get

:36:33. > :36:43.flashbacks of what's happened. The car was found dumped in the pharmacy

:36:44. > :36:46.area of Bolton. -- in Bolton. Every time I get into a car I have to look

:36:47. > :36:51.behind make sure there is no one there. I don't think I will be able

:36:52. > :36:53.to forget what has happened. It is more or less my whole life that has

:36:54. > :36:55.been changed. Well, with me now to talk more

:36:56. > :36:59.about the police investigation is Detective Inspector Tim Brown

:37:00. > :37:03.of Lancashire Constabulary. Tim - extraordinary CCTV in this

:37:04. > :37:05.case, the thief really was brazen to take the car

:37:06. > :37:18.from under their noses, Absolutely. It is plain to say from

:37:19. > :37:21.the footage that it was brazen, extremely callous also. The person

:37:22. > :37:25.responsible for this has committed the act in the middle of the day on

:37:26. > :37:30.a busy high Street. It was only within a few metres of people

:37:31. > :37:34.working in the premises there. Again, from the footage, you can see

:37:35. > :37:38.the reckless driving. A complete disregard for people surrounding the

:37:39. > :37:43.vehicle. Luckily you are able to track down the car fairly quickly

:37:44. > :37:47.after this incident. That's right, we had some fantastic assistance

:37:48. > :37:51.from Abu, his family and friends on social media, it is unclear exactly

:37:52. > :37:58.as to why the car was abandoned but it was and we recovered. At the same

:37:59. > :38:03.time, small comfort for Abu. Talk me through the extent of his injuries.

:38:04. > :38:06.Absolutely, injuries to both his arm and leg, most significantly. I am

:38:07. > :38:10.told he has had a number of surgeries to try to make that right,

:38:11. > :38:14.but the reality is both psychologically and physically it

:38:15. > :38:18.probably would be right. You mention that the CCTV is really clear,

:38:19. > :38:22.someone must know who this car thief is. Absolutely. The appeal from me

:38:23. > :38:26.today is that we hear from anybody who can give us any information that

:38:27. > :38:32.would insist the investigation, but the most simple part of the appeal

:38:33. > :38:36.is simply who is that person in the footage? There is clear footage,

:38:37. > :38:41.clear stills, please come forward and then that person. Thank you very

:38:42. > :38:44.much. As you heard, if this is someone you recognise, take a look

:38:45. > :38:48.at the footage, if you can identify them, please make sure you get in

:38:49. > :38:51.contact. We will be standing by the calls. The numbers are on the screen

:38:52. > :38:54.and we have the text message number and an e-mail address.

:38:55. > :38:56.Now it's time for a look at today's Wanted Faces.

:38:57. > :38:59.First up is this man, Anthony Rowson, although you may

:39:00. > :39:02.He was jailed for four years for attempted burglary and then

:39:03. > :39:06.But he's failed to stick to the conditions of his release

:39:07. > :39:10.He has links to Liverpool and Manchester and a tattoo

:39:11. > :39:18.He was arrested in connection with the supply of Class A drugs

:39:19. > :39:20.and the recovery of almost ?55,000 in cash.

:39:21. > :39:26.He was released on bail but has failed to return.

:39:27. > :39:28.Originally from Albania, the 28-year-old now has links

:39:29. > :39:30.to the West Midlands, Derbyshire and Northamptonshire.

:39:31. > :39:33.He has a tattoo of barbed wire on his right forearm.

:39:34. > :39:37.Police would like to question him in connection to an assault

:39:38. > :39:41.on a woman and also the breach of a restraining order.

:39:42. > :39:45.Maddox is 47 and has a Liverpudlian accent.

:39:46. > :39:48.He has links across the city, but he could now be in Ireland.

:39:49. > :39:54.Detectives would like to question him in connection

:39:55. > :39:56.with a conspiracy to supply a large quantity of cannabis.

:39:57. > :40:01.The 56-year-old has an Essex accent and links across the county.

:40:02. > :40:05.If you know where any of these faces are, make sure you get in touch

:40:06. > :40:14.Next, the violent attack on a taxi driver as he went about his work.

:40:15. > :40:15.Detective Sergeant Adie Knowles from Lancashire Constabulary

:40:16. > :40:31.The suspect was picked up from Lancaster city centre about 5:24am

:40:32. > :40:36.on the 12th of March of this year. He paid for the fair, got out of the

:40:37. > :40:40.taxi and then approach the passenger side window, entered into an

:40:41. > :40:45.argument, disputing the fear, and he was very aggressive in his behaviour

:40:46. > :40:51.to the taxi driver. And the whole thing was caught on camera. The taxi

:40:52. > :40:55.driver had a dash cam, which capture the whole incident with sound. We

:40:56. > :41:06.have a clip, so let's take a at what happened. Give me my money. No, you

:41:07. > :41:11.can't have the money. It was just a really aggressive encounter, wasn't

:41:12. > :41:18.it? Yes, from the minute you get out of it taxi, he became very verbally

:41:19. > :41:22.aggressive, he reached out and damaged the taxi. That is when the

:41:23. > :41:25.actual assault happened but we can't show the footage, because it is just

:41:26. > :41:30.too violent but August through what happened. After he caused the damage

:41:31. > :41:36.to the taxi, he then started throwing punches at Mr Siddique, and

:41:37. > :41:41.he tried his very best to defend himself. Remind us what offences

:41:42. > :41:46.this person is suspected. Assault and criminal damage. We just need a

:41:47. > :41:50.name for the chap involved. How was the driver after all of this? It is

:41:51. > :41:53.such an ordeal to have to go through when you are going about your daily

:41:54. > :41:58.work, not the type of thing you expect. Certainly not. He received

:41:59. > :42:02.some bruising to his face, his glasses were damaged and he was

:42:03. > :42:05.certainly shaken by the events that occurred. You are appealing for any

:42:06. > :42:11.information at all today. Thank you very much. If from looking at that

:42:12. > :42:14.footage you can identify the person, this has had a real effect on the

:42:15. > :42:18.taxi driver, as we were just saying, not something you expect ever to

:42:19. > :42:23.happen. Get in touch if you can help with this case.

:42:24. > :42:25.Time now for a look at what's been coming

:42:26. > :42:35.Lots of you calling in after Tuesday's appeal, to find those

:42:36. > :42:38.responsible for the shooting of two cats with an air rifle in

:42:39. > :42:42.Lancashire, the cats were left with serious injuries and the RSPCA is

:42:43. > :42:46.now looking into all of your calls. And some good news for you, because

:42:47. > :42:50.we have had yet another arrest on one of our wanted faces as they

:42:51. > :42:54.direct result of your calls. Michelle, where are you tomorrow?

:42:55. > :42:56.Rav, I'll be ending the week in Liverpool, asking

:42:57. > :42:59.for your help to catch the armed gang who punched an

:43:00. > :43:04.And a first for me - we'll be live from one of the UK's

:43:05. > :43:13.Might as well catch the bus, mightn't I? See you!

:43:14. > :43:16.For more details about the crimes on today's programme,

:43:17. > :43:20.Before we go, here's another look at this morning's Wanted Faces.
