:00:09. > :00:15.who have ruined the retirement plans of 89-year-old Eric.
:00:16. > :00:18.The first thing I noticed was the gate was unlocked.
:00:19. > :00:22.I felt the fear then, I thought something is terribly wrong here.
:00:23. > :00:33.The graffiti-busting cleaners sprucing up the streets of Bristol.
:00:34. > :00:36.We get racist, offensive graffiti, so we tried to remove it before the
:00:37. > :00:38.public can see any of it. And it's a hot and sunny day
:00:39. > :00:40.down in Bristol harbour. But a dip would still
:00:41. > :00:43.be a very bad idea. when people who've had too many
:00:44. > :00:48.end up in the drink. Live for the next 45 minutes,
:00:49. > :01:14.this is Crimewatch Roadshow. Hello and welcome to
:01:15. > :01:16.Crimewatch Roadshow. to solve the crimes
:01:17. > :01:23.happening where you live. why police reckon they're up to
:01:24. > :01:31.no good - burgling rural homes. I couldn't believe
:01:32. > :01:34.the glass all over the floor, it was such a shock when you have
:01:35. > :01:37.lived here a long while, and you don't expect anything
:01:38. > :01:39.like that to happen. limbering up
:01:40. > :01:47.for a charity cycling marathon. This morning,
:01:48. > :01:49.the team's moved to Bristol, and the Baltic Wharf
:01:50. > :01:52.near the city centre. I can't complain, Rav,
:01:53. > :01:58.it's a lovely part of the world. Home to the SS Great Britain,
:01:59. > :02:01.Brunel's original steam ship. Today I'll be out on the water
:02:02. > :02:07.with the Fire Service and I'm going to set
:02:08. > :02:18.these divers a challenge - There it goes!
:02:19. > :02:24.See how they get on in a bit. Bur first, can you help catch
:02:25. > :02:28.the thieves who burgled Worst of all, they stole
:02:29. > :02:35.a very rare item that he hoped would
:02:36. > :02:47.help fund his retirement. In the centre of Bath, this
:02:48. > :02:52.weathered shop front will always hold special memories for
:02:53. > :02:58.89-year-old antique dealer Eric. We have run an antique shop in Bath for
:02:59. > :03:03.50 years. I've dealt with dealers from all over the world, America,
:03:04. > :03:09.Australia, they all used to come to my shop. But after a lifetime in the
:03:10. > :03:15.trade, in May this year, Eric decided it was finally time to close
:03:16. > :03:19.the business and retire. Oh, I was very emotional, yes, I thought, I am
:03:20. > :03:25.going to miss a lot of people coming in, you know, and I felt, well, at
:03:26. > :03:30.the end of the day, I am in my 80s, I have got to decide what I am going
:03:31. > :03:32.to do with the rest of my life, you know? Eric had held onto some
:03:33. > :03:39.valuable items for his shop which he plans to sell if he became short of
:03:40. > :03:44.money. I never had a pension plan, you know? All I have got is
:03:45. > :03:52.antiques. I can sell it as I go along. On the daily closed the shop
:03:53. > :03:55.for the final time, Eric moved his precious antiques collection into
:03:56. > :04:06.storage in an old chapel he owns five outside Bath. I would rather
:04:07. > :04:11.look at the antiques, money doesn't give me any pleasure, it is just
:04:12. > :04:20.paper, isn't it? I felt quite confident it was in a safe place.
:04:21. > :04:28.Unfortunately for Eric, thieves had other ideas. Some time between 5pm
:04:29. > :04:30.on the 7th of May and 11am on the 9th of May, the chapel was broken
:04:31. > :04:43.into. The chapel doors were reinforced,
:04:44. > :04:51.but the thieves came prepared - with heavy duty tools. CCTV footage
:04:52. > :04:59.captured people moving around inside the building. Once inside, they
:05:00. > :05:08.helped themselves to dozens of smaller antiques. They also took
:05:09. > :05:11.Eric's favourite, and most unusual item, an 18th century bronze wishing
:05:12. > :05:21.well, which he believes is worth up to ?500,000. The wishing well was my
:05:22. > :05:30.height, about five foot four. It was huge. There may be two in the world,
:05:31. > :05:36.but I don't think there would be any more than that. People that have
:05:37. > :05:45.seen it said, I can't believe I'm looking at it. It was such an
:05:46. > :05:48.impressive piece. In just 20 minutes, the collection, which had
:05:49. > :06:05.taken Eric a lifetime to build, was gone.
:06:06. > :06:14.The first thing I noticed was the date was unlocked, I felt the fear
:06:15. > :06:19.then, I thought, something is terribly wrong. I didn't want to
:06:20. > :06:23.look, I walked in, and then I saw it, you know, this gone, that gone,
:06:24. > :06:29.everything gone, gutted. That is how I felt.
:06:30. > :06:37.To steal the retirement fund of an 89-year-old man on the day that he
:06:38. > :06:42.retires is truly appalling. We believe it has been planned, because
:06:43. > :06:51.he was moving some very expensive, substantial pieces of artwork to a
:06:52. > :06:56.storage facility. Why is the burglary has had a devastating
:06:57. > :07:01.impact on Eric. Every day I wake up, I think all the years I have been in
:07:02. > :07:05.business, it is all gone. What have I done to deserve this? You never
:07:06. > :07:09.forget it, it is on your mind all the time. 24 hours a day, you cannot
:07:10. > :07:17.relax from it. And you feel, why me? Now, since that burglary,
:07:18. > :07:22.he's tightened up his security, but sadly, many of the antiques
:07:23. > :07:25.stolen were irreplaceable. Detective Sergeant
:07:26. > :07:27.Laura Miller joins me now. Some of these items
:07:28. > :07:30.were bulky and very heavy. They must have been really hard
:07:31. > :07:35.for the thieves to move. Yes, around 30 bronze sculptures,
:07:36. > :07:40.paintings, antique clocks. One particular item,
:07:41. > :07:42.the five foot bronze wishing well, so the offenders would have had
:07:43. > :08:03.a large vehicle with them. There was CCTV in the chapel, there
:08:04. > :08:08.were at least two, but we believe four people were involved in the
:08:09. > :08:12.theft. What information you looking for? These are unique pieces,
:08:13. > :08:16.especially the wishing well. We want to know how it is being stored,
:08:17. > :08:21.whether it has been sold, if you have that information, we would like
:08:22. > :08:27.to know. And because they are such unique items, someone must know
:08:28. > :08:31.where they are. It is one-of-a-kind, it is very dear to Eric, we would
:08:32. > :08:37.like to know where it is. We are are looking for 2-4 men with a van or a
:08:38. > :08:40.chat, possibly with a lifting mechanism in the Bath area.
:08:41. > :08:43.Call us if you know anything about Eric's stolen antiques.
:08:44. > :08:48.Hopefully, we'll get some answers today.
:08:49. > :09:04.It is a little too late at night for these two to be getting inked up at
:09:05. > :09:09.this tattoo parlour in Winterbourne. So what are they up to? While the
:09:10. > :09:14.woman is hanging around outside, she gives us a good look at her face.
:09:15. > :09:18.The man eventually comes back over with something in his hands and put
:09:19. > :09:25.it through the door. Suddenly, the parlour is up in flames. But this
:09:26. > :09:29.arsonist doesn't get away scot-free. He set himself alight too. Luckily,
:09:30. > :09:33.the fire didn't take hold, especially as there was a mum and
:09:34. > :09:37.baby in the flat above the shop. They weren't injured, but the
:09:38. > :09:42.property did suffer considerable smoke damage. Do you know who they
:09:43. > :09:44.might be? Did you see anyone in the area with burn injuries around that
:09:45. > :09:56.time? If so, you know what to do. Here you can see a burglar lurking
:09:57. > :10:02.about in the early hours of the morning, but strangely he doesn't
:10:03. > :10:05.take anything from the property - on this occasion. Incredibly, almost a
:10:06. > :10:11.year later, police believe they called him on camera again, but in
:10:12. > :10:15.someone else's home. He is scoping out this place but still doesn't
:10:16. > :10:19.steal anything. He does take some time to tamper with the door,
:10:20. > :10:23.though. Police believe his method is to break-in and recce what he wants,
:10:24. > :10:28.interfere with locks, doors and windows so next time he can gain
:10:29. > :10:32.easy access. If you recognise his face, then we need to hear from you.
:10:33. > :10:34.If you can name anyone you've just seen,
:10:35. > :10:37.It's free, and the number is 08000 468999.
:10:38. > :10:41.Text CW, space and then your message.
:10:42. > :10:44.Texts will be charged at your standard message rate.
:10:45. > :10:53.Or why not send us an email? The address is cwr@bbc.co.uk.
:10:54. > :10:56.I'm on the water in Bristol Harbour with Avon Fire and Rescue Service.
:10:57. > :11:05.Good morning, we are on the water this morning, and we have been
:11:06. > :11:09.called to a person who has off a boat into the water. It happens
:11:10. > :11:13.quite regularly in Bristol, we have got such a big harbour-side, and
:11:14. > :11:18.lots of people come to visit, and it does happen on a regular basis. May
:11:19. > :11:22.be people who have had too much to drink? On a day like today, people
:11:23. > :11:29.who might want to go for a swim, but it happens in the evenings when
:11:30. > :11:32.people have had a drink. Your job is to rescue them, someone is in the
:11:33. > :11:37.water, talk me through what is happening. We have identified
:11:38. > :11:42.someone in the water, the boat is launched. We have several methods,
:11:43. > :11:46.we can throw a rope, talk to the casualty, in this instance we are
:11:47. > :11:52.going to use the boat, because it is a lot quicker. So as we are
:11:53. > :11:56.approaching, we slow down, start talking to the casualty, get them to
:11:57. > :12:01.help themselves to help us gets them into the boat. It is a lovely summer
:12:02. > :12:07.day, what is the temperature like there? Surface temperature is 19,
:12:08. > :12:13.which is still quite cold, but below that is very cold, ten or 11
:12:14. > :12:17.degrees, so if you fall in the water, you cannot swim properly, it
:12:18. > :12:22.is difficult for your body to react to that. So dealing with cardiac
:12:23. > :12:27.problems and forced intake of water. If your body hits cold water, you
:12:28. > :12:32.might have a cardiac event. Also, a sharp intake of air, you could
:12:33. > :12:37.swallow a lot of water. The rescue is taking place, we are approaching
:12:38. > :12:41.the man in trouble. They are talking to him, he can hold self in the
:12:42. > :12:46.water and help us out. Telling him what to do, hold onto the boat, we
:12:47. > :12:53.will encourage him to hold onto the front and then we can pull him on.
:12:54. > :12:58.And that is called scoop? Yes, it makes life easier to pull the
:12:59. > :13:01.casualty on. Thankfully, a successful rescue this time, what
:13:02. > :13:06.advice would you have for people watching at home? If you are walking
:13:07. > :13:11.home from bars and clubs at night, walk with other people, body up, so
:13:12. > :13:16.if you get into trouble, you have got someone to help you. If someone
:13:17. > :13:20.goes in the water, dial 999 and ask for the Fire Service, give your
:13:21. > :13:25.location. Encourage the person to help themselves, to swim to safety
:13:26. > :13:29.and hold on. Thank you very much. In a few minutes, we will find out how
:13:30. > :13:31.the police divers are getting on finding the replica gun I threw in
:13:32. > :13:33.the water. Rav. Thanks, Tina -
:13:34. > :13:36.looking forward to that. Right, lots more to come this
:13:37. > :13:38.morning, including... The city which boasts amazing art
:13:39. > :13:41.and grotty graffiti. Now police in Bristol are getting
:13:42. > :13:43.tough on the taggers. Over the last 18 months,
:13:44. > :13:47.the graffiti unit has prosecuted 42 offenders,
:13:48. > :13:50.and three have gone to prison. And the Kent micropub targeted
:13:51. > :13:55.by thieves not once but twice. where they came
:13:56. > :14:03.through on the glass. are wheeling their way
:14:04. > :14:11.into studio this morning. These are all serving officers
:14:12. > :14:13.with South Wales Police, and they're training for a big bike
:14:14. > :14:16.marathon later this month. I'm also joined by Lilian Smith,
:14:17. > :14:19.who's involved in the event, Lilian, I'll chat to
:14:20. > :14:23.you in just a moment. But first, Deputy Chief
:14:24. > :14:37.Constable Matt Jukes, Were going to be doing the police
:14:38. > :14:39.Unity Ride for a fantastic charity, Care of Police Survivors, who look
:14:40. > :14:46.after the families of officers who have died on duty. 50 of us from
:14:47. > :14:51.Wales, we will be riding 200 miles and arriving at a national memorial
:14:52. > :14:57.service. How is training going? OK, could always be better! There is a
:14:58. > :15:02.memorial service at the end of the ride. This is last year. Lovely
:15:03. > :15:08.pictures. It is a really emotional moment for everybody. At the service
:15:09. > :15:12.of surviving families and they present the riders with medals. It
:15:13. > :15:18.is moving for everybody, there are 250 people from all over the UK
:15:19. > :15:22.taking part now. Talk me through the bracelet as well, very emotional
:15:23. > :15:26.attachment to that. It is. Every rider wears a bracelet to remember
:15:27. > :15:33.an officer who died on duty. Last year I wore this bracelet which
:15:34. > :15:42.remembers Trevor Smith who sadly Lillian lost. Sadly killed on duty
:15:43. > :15:48.in a road traffic accident. Must have been very difficult for you. It
:15:49. > :15:53.was because I had a 15-year-old son who had lost a father and 15 is not
:15:54. > :15:57.a very nice age to be left without a father. But we just got on with life
:15:58. > :16:05.because there was no Cops in those days. This is a picture of Trevor in
:16:06. > :16:12.his uniform. A very proud man. You must have been very proud of him.
:16:13. > :16:17.Yes. It must've been hard without a charity like Cops. Did you find that
:16:18. > :16:24.particularly difficult? It was very lonely. Are they helping you now?
:16:25. > :16:30.Yes I was so pleased to find them. Christine from Cops got in touch.
:16:31. > :16:33.She found out I was widowed from the police roll of honour and we have
:16:34. > :16:39.been in touch over the years. Nice to know there is someone you can
:16:40. > :16:43.speak to. You're not alone. Find you, you have not noticed this,
:16:44. > :16:47.Lillian, he has a surprise for you. We know you love to go to the
:16:48. > :16:51.memorial services to remember Trevor and you couldn't make it last year
:16:52. > :16:58.so here is a picture of us remembering Trevor, the memorial
:16:59. > :17:02.tree. Wales. His service insignia there and something to remind you
:17:03. > :17:07.you are not forgotten and he is not forgotten. Very nice. Thank you. We
:17:08. > :17:15.know you could not make it last year so they brought it to you. Lovely.
:17:16. > :17:20.Thank you. Any tips for the guys? I wish them all the best. That is from
:17:21. > :17:26.me as well. Good luck. Lovely gesture. Back to you, Tina.
:17:27. > :17:28.Now, this part of Bristol around the harbour is certainly
:17:29. > :17:30.very picturesque on a summer morning like this.
:17:31. > :17:32.But just up the road, parts of the city centre
:17:33. > :17:43.The city of Bristol is world-famous for its street art. Mysterious
:17:44. > :17:47.artist Banksy made his name here and others have followed his lead,
:17:48. > :17:52.creating hundreds of elaborate paintings. For locals and visitors,
:17:53. > :17:58.it is certainly a talking point. It adds colour and uniqueness. It
:17:59. > :18:05.definitely brings out the vibrancy. A good thing. I think it should
:18:06. > :18:14.continue. Graffiti is a massive benefit socially and financially the
:18:15. > :18:18.rundown areas. People want to come in droves, tourists, coming in packs
:18:19. > :18:24.to take photos of the art. But not all graffiti is so popular. Initials
:18:25. > :18:31.and logos, known as tags, are sprayed on thousands of walls across
:18:32. > :18:36.the city, including people's homes. Tagging, I disagree with it
:18:37. > :18:47.entirely. It is just scribbles. I get a lot of it on my properties and
:18:48. > :18:50.I am ever more painting over it. Tackling the tags is also a
:18:51. > :18:56.full-time job for Bristol's clean-up team. It is early morning and Mark
:18:57. > :19:02.is heading to the city's temple meets train station. We get a number
:19:03. > :19:06.of things happening in the night. We get racist offensive graffiti. We
:19:07. > :19:11.try and remove it before the public can see it. This morning, Mark has
:19:12. > :19:16.spotted some new tags at the front entrance of the station. This sign
:19:17. > :19:21.is a group of lads in Bristol, they all write this kind of thing just to
:19:22. > :19:26.show the group has been in that area and also to let the other crew know
:19:27. > :19:34.they have been here and on the wall. There are 100 active taggers in
:19:35. > :19:42.Bristol and it costs a lot to clean up the graffiti. Ten, 20 minutes to
:19:43. > :19:49.complete. It took that tagger or artist ten seconds max. Some taggers
:19:50. > :19:53.enjoy the challenge of making the marks in hard to reach places,
:19:54. > :20:06.sometimes with tragic consequences. This is quite a sad story. This type
:20:07. > :20:12.is a guy called Buzz and he is prolific and he was on a bridge and
:20:13. > :20:16.he tragically fell off. He paid the ultimate price and file of the
:20:17. > :20:20.building he was tagging and died. It is a persistent problem and police
:20:21. > :20:26.are now trying new ways to get tough on illegal with the T. Fixed penalty
:20:27. > :20:31.notices is the way we used to go until we began to realise the sheer
:20:32. > :20:36.volume of the damage. We take photographs of all of the damage and
:20:37. > :20:40.we start in the centre of the city and we go out, like a dart board and
:20:41. > :20:47.cover the whole city and photograph everything. The photos can be used
:20:48. > :20:51.to map a tagger's movements and help convict serial offenders. Over the
:20:52. > :20:59.last 18 months, the unit has prosecuted 42 offenders, three have
:21:00. > :21:02.gone to prison. For the mayor of Bristol, striking a balance between
:21:03. > :21:10.tagging and art presents a challenge. While we want to
:21:11. > :21:14.celebrate our street art and our graffiti artists, what we also have
:21:15. > :21:21.to do is take care of what we might call vandalism which comes across as
:21:22. > :21:26.tagging. The May has teamed up with the graffiti artists to try a new
:21:27. > :21:31.approach. Over the next few months, 15 walls will be set up across the
:21:32. > :21:34.city where artists can express themselves freely. We have got the
:21:35. > :21:39.walls around the city where people can go and do graffiti without fear
:21:40. > :21:47.of prosecution. We are encouraging it to happen here. It will be really
:21:48. > :21:48.interesting to see how that pans out.
:21:49. > :21:50.Well, here at Bristol's harbourside, I'm with Avon
:21:51. > :21:52.and Somerset Police's underwater search team.
:21:53. > :21:54.Earlier, I threw a replica firearm into the water
:21:55. > :21:58.Sergeant Nick Evans from the dive team joins me.
:21:59. > :22:01.Nick, talk me through what everyone's doing here on your team?
:22:02. > :22:08.At the moment we have got a diver in the water with the handler looking
:22:09. > :22:14.after him with a line constantly attached to him, delivering air. We
:22:15. > :22:19.have a stand-by diver here. If the diver in the water gets in trouble,
:22:20. > :22:23.we deploy the stand-by diver. I am in charge of communications and
:22:24. > :22:28.delivering the air to the diver in the water. How do you know how it is
:22:29. > :22:35.going? We communicate on this, from surface to the water. Can I talk to
:22:36. > :22:45.the diver? Certainly. If you say panel to diver. Panel to diver. How
:22:46. > :22:54.are things going? How is the visibility? How are things going?
:22:55. > :23:00.Visibility is no. Nil visibility. Negative as yet. Continuing with the
:23:01. > :23:08.search. Visibility, sounds like it is really bad. Understood.
:23:09. > :23:13.Understood. You can never see anything down there, diver's worst
:23:14. > :23:17.nightmare. Pretty treacherous. You can never see anything, shopping
:23:18. > :23:24.trolleys in there, worst nightmare to get caught up in that. Can we ask
:23:25. > :23:33.him if he has found the gun? Have you found the gun yet? No, negative,
:23:34. > :23:40.nothing yet. Understood. How long do you think it will take them? It can
:23:41. > :23:45.take two minutes, two hours, there is no visibility, done by touch.
:23:46. > :23:48.Hopefully they find it by the end of the programme. Rav, they are still
:23:49. > :23:53.searching. Thanks, Tina.
:23:54. > :23:56.Now it's time for a look at today's Wanted Faces.
:23:57. > :24:00.Detectives would like to speak to him about the murder of a man
:24:01. > :24:02.who was repeatedly stabbed near Chelmsley Wood
:24:03. > :24:06.Chase has links to this area and also to Shard End in Birmingham.
:24:07. > :24:08.The 20-year-old also has numerous different hairstyles,
:24:09. > :24:11.He's 5ft 6 and described as dangerous, so if you know
:24:12. > :24:21.This is Jabar Ababakr, although he also calls himself
:24:22. > :24:24.He was arrested in connection with a rape allegation
:24:25. > :24:27.and released on police bail, but has failed to return
:24:28. > :24:30.Originally from Iraq, the 32-year-old now has links
:24:31. > :24:34.He was arrested in connection with a robbery in Southwark
:24:35. > :24:38.in London, in which a car was taken, and also an incident when the same
:24:39. > :24:42.He was also granted bail but has not returned to police.
:24:43. > :24:45.Giddings is 31 and has links to Lewisham in South East London.
:24:46. > :24:48.And finally today, this is 36-year-old Matthew John Porter.
:24:49. > :24:50.He was arrested by detectives investigating a robbery
:24:51. > :24:54.at a jeweller's where ?250,000 worth of jewellery and watches were taken.
:24:55. > :24:57.Again, he was given bail but hasn't been seen since.
:24:58. > :24:59.Porter has numerous tattoos, including female figures
:25:00. > :25:08.He has links to Lincolnshire and the West Midlands.
:25:09. > :25:11.If you know where any of these faces are, make sure you get in touch
:25:12. > :25:15.Next, to a particularly vicious assault which happened
:25:16. > :25:23.A 29-year-old father of two was on an evening out with his wife
:25:24. > :25:25.when a man attacked him, leaving him with life-changing injuries.
:25:26. > :25:27.Detective Sergeant Jon Williams from Gloucestershire Constabulary
:25:28. > :25:42.Liam Hopson suffered a serious head injury which has left him with life
:25:43. > :25:47.changing injuries. He is currently living at home with his mother
:25:48. > :25:49.receiving care. We can see a map of where the attack happened. He had
:25:50. > :26:00.been enjoying himself with friends. At Moo Moo's nightclub,
:26:01. > :26:02.on Regent Street, in Cheltenham, They left the nightclub
:26:03. > :26:05.around 3.30am and were walking along Rodney Road,
:26:06. > :26:08.where a male suspect, who was with three other males,
:26:09. > :26:10.made offensive remarks about Liam's wife, causing some heated
:26:11. > :26:12.words between them. Both groups moved on and went
:26:13. > :26:14.their separate ways. Further along Rodney Road,
:26:15. > :26:17.near to the junction of the A46, the suspect reappeared and shouted
:26:18. > :26:19.some more abuse. Liam shouted back, the suspect
:26:20. > :26:21.walked towards him and punched him once, causing him
:26:22. > :26:23.to fall to the floor. The suspect then walked
:26:24. > :26:27.off and disappeared Liam was taken to hospital
:26:28. > :26:30.where it was confirmed We can see some CCTV footage
:26:31. > :26:35.of a man you want to speak Yes, CCTV footage
:26:36. > :26:38.shows the man leaving This is the mail we believe to be
:26:39. > :26:47.the offender. If anyone recognises this man,
:26:48. > :26:49.please get in contact. There are also a number of other
:26:50. > :26:52.people you want to speak Yes, we are keen to speak to these
:26:53. > :26:56.three men who appear They are seen leaving with him,
:26:57. > :26:59.heading down Rodney Road. These men are key are to helping
:27:00. > :27:05.with our investigation. Let us hope someone can help. The
:27:06. > :27:10.numbers will be on the screen throughout the programme. Rav.
:27:11. > :27:15.If you have any idea who that man seen on CCTV in Cheltenham is,
:27:16. > :27:23.Now, burglars usually want to make a quick getaway
:27:24. > :27:28.But some prefer to let the train take the strain.
:27:29. > :27:40.The rural county of Somerset has many peaceful hamlets and quiet
:27:41. > :27:45.villages. One of them is Templecombe. It is a small village,
:27:46. > :27:50.the hairdressers, the church, school, and the main asset is the
:27:51. > :27:57.railway station. It is fairly quiet on the whole. But one Saturday
:27:58. > :28:02.morning back in April, the picturesque village had some very
:28:03. > :28:09.unwelcome visitors. Glass everywhere. Draws were open and the
:28:10. > :28:13.jewellery taken. It is such a shock when you have lived here a long
:28:14. > :28:26.while and you do not expect anything like that to happen. Mavis has lived
:28:27. > :28:30.in Templecombe for 30 years. That day, she had arranged to go on a
:28:31. > :28:33.shopping trip with a friend. Rita and I had agreed to go up to the
:28:34. > :28:39.market together. We were looking forward to a nice day in the morning
:28:40. > :28:53.seeing friends, chatting, having coffee. They headed off together,
:28:54. > :28:55.leaving Mavis's house empty. In the early afternoon, these two men
:28:56. > :29:16.arrived at Templecombe by train. CCTV captures one of the men walking
:29:17. > :29:25.towards Mavis's house. He crept into her back garden. Police believe he
:29:26. > :29:33.then smashed a French door. And then crawled into Mavis's home. Draws
:29:34. > :29:38.were ransacked and jewellery stretched Murray snatched from
:29:39. > :29:45.Mavis's bedroom and a laptop containing precious photos was
:29:46. > :29:51.stolen -- and jewellery snatched. Mavis returned from the market
:29:52. > :29:56.unaware of what had happened. We had a really nice time, the end of a
:29:57. > :30:00.good day. I walked into the lounge and looked around and I couldn't
:30:01. > :30:04.believe the glass all over the floor.
:30:05. > :30:11.My clothes were pulled out of the drawers, and the things out of the
:30:12. > :30:15.wardrobe, obviously looking to see if I had hidden anything. They had
:30:16. > :30:22.taken my laptop, which had all my photos. And I was absolutely
:30:23. > :30:28.shocked, really. And I phoned reader straightaway and said, I've been
:30:29. > :30:34.burgled. The jewellery were things that came from my grandmother, my
:30:35. > :30:40.mother, my sister, gifts - for example, a silver locket that had a
:30:41. > :30:44.photo of my grandmother on one side, my mother the other. You can't ever
:30:45. > :30:53.replace those. It's upsetting, very upsetting. After the burglary, CCTV
:30:54. > :30:59.captures the two men together, getting on a train back to London.
:31:00. > :31:04.This burglary is unusual. The offenders arrived by train, and they
:31:05. > :31:09.left by train. This is the first time that I've come across burglars
:31:10. > :31:14.in this part of Somerset using the rail network to commit crime. Police
:31:15. > :31:19.believe the same men carried out a similar burglary near another rural
:31:20. > :31:24.train station earlier that day. These two men, we believe, have come
:31:25. > :31:28.from London, and then they've targeted rural villages. They've
:31:29. > :31:32.been getting off the train, scoping these villages and towns, finding
:31:33. > :31:42.empty properties, forcing entry, stealing items. I think people
:31:43. > :31:44.should be more aware of how they hurt other people. It just seems
:31:45. > :31:49.completely wrong. Jim, this seems quite unusual,
:31:50. > :32:02.to use the rail network to carry out Yes, that is correct, I've
:32:03. > :32:05.investigated a number of burglaries over the years - this is the first
:32:06. > :32:10.incident of this kind I've come across. You believe the two men in
:32:11. > :32:16.the film had carried out a burglary earlier that day. Yes, they got off
:32:17. > :32:22.the train, broke into a property, stole items, before travelling to
:32:23. > :32:27.Templecombe, where one broke into Mavis's house. The CCTV is quite
:32:28. > :32:32.clear, how would you describe them? The two men are of Mediterranean
:32:33. > :32:36.appearance, late 20s, early 30s, one appears to be slimmer than the
:32:37. > :32:42.other, both have dark hair. And you believe they are from outside the
:32:43. > :32:45.area. That's right, they boarded a train at Basingstoke and travelled
:32:46. > :32:50.to Templecombe. We know they travelled back on the train, getting
:32:51. > :32:54.off at Clapham Junction. And the items stolen from Mavis really do
:32:55. > :33:00.mean a lot to, they are irreplaceable. They are, she had a
:33:01. > :33:01.laptop stolen, a significant amount of jewellery stolen, and she would
:33:02. > :33:05.be keen to get those items back. If you have any information on these
:33:06. > :33:10.two men, get in touch now. And remember, victims of any crime
:33:11. > :33:12.can also call Victim Support. This time, one who prefers to strike
:33:13. > :33:34.under cover of darkness. Heerenveen, a seaside town with an
:33:35. > :33:37.historic pier and a promenade dating back to Victorian times, but more
:33:38. > :33:43.recently it has become famous for something else, the birthplace of
:33:44. > :33:54.the micropub. They micropub is just one room, basically, so it can be a
:33:55. > :33:57.small shop, this one was a pet shop. Micropubs our community pubs, it is
:33:58. > :34:04.all about the conversation and nothing else to interfere with that.
:34:05. > :34:10.For the past few years, Gary and Gavin have run the pub together. It
:34:11. > :34:17.is just two of us, all the customers know it is me and Gary. There is a
:34:18. > :34:23.lot of Mickey taking. I wouldn't want to suggest I do more, but he is
:34:24. > :34:29.quite slow! It is about half and half. We do have rules, we don't
:34:30. > :34:34.have mobile phones, we don't have electronic cigarettes. We have a
:34:35. > :34:40.system where it is a ?1 fine if anybody's phone goes off. Most
:34:41. > :34:46.people have no objections to putting a pound in the charity box. For the
:34:47. > :34:51.two friends, business was going well, but success attracted and
:34:52. > :34:55.welcome attention. On the night of the 16th of February, Gavin blocked
:34:56. > :34:57.up as normal, but during the early hours, the pub had an unwanted
:34:58. > :35:16.visitor. The following morning, Gavin went to
:35:17. > :35:21.open up. As soon as I arrived, I saw a hole where they came through on
:35:22. > :35:27.the glass. The burglar had emptied the till and taken around ?250. We
:35:28. > :35:37.thought, don't worry, we've got CCTV. As well as the money, the
:35:38. > :35:41.burglar had also stolen the CCTV. So we knew there was no way we would
:35:42. > :35:49.going to catch them, lack of evidence. It is terrible, it is just
:35:50. > :35:55.an invasion. It was pretty devastating, to be honest. With the
:35:56. > :35:57.CCTV footage gone, all Gary and Gavin could do was repaired the
:35:58. > :36:07.damage and carry on with business as usual. But less than two months
:36:08. > :36:12.later, they were targeted again. I turned up, and there it was, the
:36:13. > :36:19.whole, I could see another hole, but this time on another window. What
:36:20. > :36:24.the burglar didn't know was that Gary and given had since gone to
:36:25. > :36:30.town and ramped up their new CCTV. Now every angle was covered, there
:36:31. > :36:35.was nowhere for the beef to hide. Bingo, we got him. Breaking into the
:36:36. > :36:41.front window, he could be seen rummaging around looking for loot.
:36:42. > :36:48.And wanting to have his cake and eat it, he stops to have a munch on some
:36:49. > :36:51.leftover birthday treats on the bar. But not satisfied, this greedy
:36:52. > :36:58.burglar did the unthinkable - and swiped the charity box.
:36:59. > :37:07.You just don't expect someone to steal from a charity. The money that
:37:08. > :37:11.is collected is for disabled children and adults. I just don't
:37:12. > :37:20.understand why they should just go for a charity. That is the lowest of
:37:21. > :37:24.the low. This is an individual who has been very callous with the
:37:25. > :37:29.crime. He has targeted a small, family run business. He has gone to
:37:30. > :37:33.the back office, where he has taken small amounts of money, and then,
:37:34. > :37:38.more pertinently, he has stolen a charity collection box which
:37:39. > :37:43.contained approximately ?200. Whilst it equates to a relatively small
:37:44. > :37:47.amount in monetary terms, it is the big emotional affect that it has on
:37:48. > :37:53.them. There is also an element of when they locked the doors at night,
:37:54. > :37:57.will there have been another break-in in the morning? Everybody
:37:58. > :38:02.says, you are insured, but we still have to pay an excess each time. We
:38:03. > :38:08.are going to definitely carry on with the charity, we raised ?3500
:38:09. > :38:13.now. We think it is important to support it. They could have trashed
:38:14. > :38:20.the place, torched it, and the worst thing is it was February, and then
:38:21. > :38:24.six weeks later again - how long is this going to happen? This is where
:38:25. > :38:27.we want to catch him. We absolutely do want to catch
:38:28. > :38:30.this fella, so take another look
:38:31. > :38:31.at the CCTV image. Do you recognise
:38:32. > :38:34.this light-fingered low-life? He's described as
:38:35. > :38:36.around 20 years old, with a thin build
:38:37. > :38:38.and white complexion. He was wearing a North Face jacket
:38:39. > :38:44.and tracksuit bottoms. Next, the Metropolitan Police
:38:45. > :38:47.urgently needs your help to catch a man who preyed on a vulnerable
:38:48. > :38:50.woman with learning difficulties and autism, stealing
:38:51. > :38:53.more than ?200 from her. On 10th April this year,
:38:54. > :38:56.the victim was walking around She's in her 50s
:38:57. > :39:02.and her vulnerability is visible. and tricked her into giving him ?25
:39:03. > :39:08.which she had in her wallet. About five minutes later,
:39:09. > :39:11.he approached her again, this time telling her that
:39:12. > :39:13.she owed him ?200 for work he claimed to have carried
:39:14. > :39:16.out on her mother's house, CCTV shows man walking
:39:17. > :39:21.the victim to a cash machine on Kew Bridge Road in Brentford,
:39:22. > :39:24.where she withdrew the money. He's wearing very
:39:25. > :39:29.distinctive clothing - bright yellow and black trousers,
:39:30. > :39:32.a blue checked shirt and beige cap. Three months on, the woman
:39:33. > :39:35.is still traumatised by the incident and is finding it hard to understand
:39:36. > :39:38.why she was targeted. If you have any information,
:39:39. > :39:41.please get in touch. Or you can speak to
:39:42. > :39:44.Crimestoppers anonymously. from Avon and Somerset Police's
:39:45. > :39:55.underwater search team. Nick, your diver
:39:56. > :40:04.is still down there. How is he getting on? It has been
:40:05. > :40:09.very difficult, but he has found the gun. He's coming up now! How
:40:10. > :40:15.difficult was it? Very little visibility, it is all down to touch,
:40:16. > :40:18.but it works. We should say that was just an exercise, so they knew
:40:19. > :40:23.roughly where to look, but much harder in real life. We are
:40:24. > :40:26.currently looking for a suitcase in relation to a murder which has been
:40:27. > :40:31.going on for three or four macro weeks, the conditions are the same,
:40:32. > :40:38.no visibility. You search these waters all the time, what have you
:40:39. > :40:43.found? We found a World War II helmets, a full life-size version of
:40:44. > :40:50.Russell Crowe, lots of weapons and guns. It is not just weapons, Nicola
:40:51. > :40:53.is here, what happened to you? Before we come to you, our diver has
:40:54. > :41:00.just arrived with the gun, proof that he has founded, brilliant! What
:41:01. > :41:03.did they find for you? These guys found my engagement ring. About a
:41:04. > :41:09.year ago, I was out rowing here early in the morning, and I put my
:41:10. > :41:15.engagement ring in my friend's bag, and it wasn't there when we came
:41:16. > :41:19.back. Two weeks of frantic panic searching, the harbour master got
:41:20. > :41:21.the word out that I had lost it, and these guys were on a training
:41:22. > :41:29.exercise and had a look while they were down there, and unbelievably,
:41:30. > :41:32.they founded for me. That is incredible, congratulations, you got
:41:33. > :41:36.married last autumn, we can see a photo of that now. Just how
:41:37. > :41:41.difficult was it? I think I described it as trying to find a
:41:42. > :41:45.pinhead in a football stadium while blindfolded. I am glad we got the
:41:46. > :41:50.ring back. How did you feel when they got it to the surface? I'm sure
:41:51. > :41:55.you thought you had lost it. I thought it was gone, but I just
:41:56. > :41:59.cried, I didn't have any words, I was just delighted, my husband was
:42:00. > :42:04.very happy as well! We should say this was a one-off, a happy ending,
:42:05. > :42:06.but the team generally don't do requests. Rav.
:42:07. > :42:10.Just time for a quick update now on your calls.
:42:11. > :42:16.You have helped police make yet another arrest. Two weeks ago, we
:42:17. > :42:20.showed you CCTV of an attack on a man in an off-licence in east
:42:21. > :42:24.London. Officers have arrested and charged a man with GBH, but they are
:42:25. > :42:28.still keen to identify this man in connection with the incident.
:42:29. > :42:32.Yesterday, we asked for your help after a scam in Dorset in which
:42:33. > :42:37.police believe a car for sale was tampered with in order to try to
:42:38. > :42:41.knock down the price. Police say you have given impossible names for the
:42:42. > :42:42.men which they are chasing up. It is our last show tomorrow, where are
:42:43. > :42:44.you going to be? Rav, I'll be ending our road trip
:42:45. > :42:47.in Cardiff, finding out what makes I might even end up
:42:48. > :42:53.behind bars myself! And we'll also be going along
:42:54. > :42:56.on an operation to seize counterfeit products and dangerous
:42:57. > :43:00.fake electrical goods. For more details about the crimes
:43:01. > :43:08.on today's programme, Before we go, here's another look
:43:09. > :43:14.at this morning's wanted faces. If any of them look familiar,
:43:15. > :43:19.get in touch. Join us tomorrow
:43:20. > :43:21.for our final programme at the usual time of 9:15am,
:43:22. > :43:24.straight after Breakfast.
