:00:00. > :00:00.It's the last day of an action-packed series,

:00:07. > :00:09.but we still need your help to stop criminals in their tracks.

:00:10. > :00:16.The pensioner attacked in her home by a knife-wielding masked man.

:00:17. > :00:18.I put in everything in my body into shaking this

:00:19. > :00:23.knife out of his hand, until he dropped the knife.

:00:24. > :00:28.Cracking down on counterfeits - we're with trading standards

:00:29. > :00:31.as they seize a million pound's worth of dangerous, fake goods.

:00:32. > :00:35.Michael Kors watches, GHD straighteners, an awful

:00:36. > :00:43.And seeing as we spend a lot of time trying to catch criminals,

:00:44. > :00:45.today I'm finding out exactly what happens when they're

:00:46. > :01:16.Live for the next 45 minutes, you're watching Crimewatch Roadshow.

:01:17. > :01:18.Hello and welcome to the very last programme in this series

:01:19. > :01:24.Before we finish, let's see if we can catch a few more crims!

:01:25. > :01:27.Also today... The dance school students whose cash

:01:28. > :01:33.and costumes were stolen in the dead of night.

:01:34. > :01:35.I opened the boot and everything's vanished.

:01:36. > :01:38.All I did was scream, words couldn't come out.

:01:39. > :01:48.The exotic eagles shot dead by an intruder at a bird sanctuary.

:01:49. > :01:52.And can you name this doorstep scammer, tricking her way

:01:53. > :02:00.Today the team have reached Cardiff Bay.

:02:01. > :02:03.And, Tina, I hear your'e in a spot of bother?

:02:04. > :02:08.Rav, I'm at Cardiff Bay police station, one

:02:09. > :02:11.of the busiest in the UK - every week around 300

:02:12. > :02:15.people will end up here in the custody suite.

:02:16. > :02:18.And this morning I'll be getting a real taste of what it's

:02:19. > :02:30.But before all of that, police need your help to catch

:02:31. > :02:43.the masked man who forced his way into a woman's home at knifepoint.

:02:44. > :02:52.The village of Trinant near Pontypool in South Wales is home to

:02:53. > :03:01.Carol and Paul Tobey. My husband and I have been married for 48 years.

:03:02. > :03:08.And we've lived here since 1981. It is a lovely village. It's very quiet

:03:09. > :03:11.here and it's as if you are, virtually, in the country. The

:03:12. > :03:14.community does seem very safe, really. Everybody knows each other.

:03:15. > :03:29.It always has seemed a lovely place. One morning back in March, before

:03:30. > :03:34.going to work, Carol was on a computer. I was in the lounge and I

:03:35. > :03:39.had opened up my laptop because I had been designing a card for my

:03:40. > :03:47.husband's birthday, and I wanted it to be special. Birthday few moments

:03:48. > :03:52.later, she was interrupted. And I thought who the devil is knocking on

:03:53. > :03:58.my door this time in the morning? Because you don't normally get that

:03:59. > :04:02.that early. Peering through the window, Carol didn't recognise her

:04:03. > :04:09.visitor. When I first looked out and saw him, I could see a Red Hat and I

:04:10. > :04:15.thought, oh, this is a delivery van is being can they leave a parcel for

:04:16. > :04:20.next door. But it wasn't the postman. As Carol opened her front

:04:21. > :04:25.door, a man wearing a red mask over his face pushed his way into the

:04:26. > :04:34.house. All of a sudden he put his hand in the air, I could see this

:04:35. > :04:39.knife in his hand. Which was... You know, you're not expecting that. At

:04:40. > :04:46.that point I just felt that are not coming anywhere near me. 67-year-old

:04:47. > :04:50.Carol bravely fought back, determined to disarm her attacker. I

:04:51. > :04:59.put everything in my body into shaking this knife out of his hand.

:05:00. > :05:05.Until he dropped the knife. The man picked up the blade and run away.

:05:06. > :05:12.Carol grabbed her phone to call the police. Carol was the victim of a

:05:13. > :05:18.horrendous act. The attacker was extremely shocked by the way that

:05:19. > :05:22.Carol reacted. She kept calm in the situation. To fight off that guide

:05:23. > :05:30.the way she did was absolutely phenomenal. Three months on, Carol

:05:31. > :05:34.and Paul are trying to put this terrifying ordeal behind them. I try

:05:35. > :05:43.not to dwell on it at all, but it is in your mind all the time. I think

:05:44. > :05:51.she was very brave. This person, whoever years, he has put through

:05:52. > :05:58.hell. -- whoever he is. And it is something that you would not expect

:05:59. > :06:02.to happen in your own home. It is not a nice thing to go through at

:06:03. > :06:03.all and I would hate to think of anybody else having to go through

:06:04. > :06:04.it. Detective Cara Bafico

:06:05. > :06:08.from Gwent Police is here. It's amazing that Carol fought

:06:09. > :06:20.back in that situation? The fact she fought someone with a

:06:21. > :06:25.knife, must have been extremely frightening for her. A very unusual

:06:26. > :06:30.crime, particularly in this quiet area of Wales. We can see a map of

:06:31. > :06:35.where it happened, talk is through the location? Trinant is a very

:06:36. > :06:39.peaceful and safe community, very little crime, it is very unusual for

:06:40. > :06:45.something to happen here. What do we know about the suspect? The fact

:06:46. > :06:49.that he forced entry with a knife means the incident could have ended

:06:50. > :06:54.completely differently to how it did. Carol described him as being

:06:55. > :06:58.about five foot eight to nine, medium build, wearing dark clothing,

:06:59. > :07:04.she described his voice is being fairly deep, a local Welsh accent

:07:05. > :07:09.and he was wearing a red mask. The red mask is really unusual, Carol

:07:10. > :07:15.described it as looking like a Morph suit? We have something similar, the

:07:16. > :07:18.slit marks in the mask so he could look out but hiding his

:07:19. > :07:24.identification. We are looking to anybody that has seen anybody in a

:07:25. > :07:30.red Morph suit on the 31st of March 2017, about 8:30am, and obviously if

:07:31. > :07:34.they saw anyone acting suspiciously, please contact us. If you can help,

:07:35. > :07:36.please get in touch. Rav? Now detectives from the Met have

:07:37. > :07:40.asked us to make an urgent appeal. This 92-year-old woman

:07:41. > :07:42.was making her way along Hoxton Street in Hackney in north

:07:43. > :07:45.London when a man grabbed her bag from behind and dragged her along

:07:46. > :07:48.the road in a violent It happened just last

:07:49. > :07:52.Tuesday at around 2:30pm. These images show the horrific

:07:53. > :07:55.injuries the pensioner suffered. Detectives want your

:07:56. > :07:57.help to find this man, 28-year-old Sanchez Edwards,

:07:58. > :07:59.who they want to question He was a Bethnal Green Underground

:08:00. > :08:12.station at 7pm last night. He's described as dangerous,

:08:13. > :08:14.so, please, if you know Next, more crimes caught on camera

:08:15. > :08:27.in our final CCTV round-up. The elderly man who owns this

:08:28. > :08:32.property recently had some maintenance work done to his home.

:08:33. > :08:43.Watch how one of the workmen comes to ask for payment from him for a

:08:44. > :08:45.second time. Police say the pensioner was originally cold called

:08:46. > :08:49.and pressured into having the necessary repair work. The man

:08:50. > :08:50.claims money is still owed to the company but it has already been

:08:51. > :09:04.paid. In fact, detectives say over ?6,000

:09:05. > :09:08.was obtained by fraudulently cashing cheques. Officers also want to speak

:09:09. > :09:11.to these two men, who visited a month earlier to check on the work

:09:12. > :09:18.that police say was shoddy and unnecessary.

:09:19. > :09:28.Can you help name these men? We would love to hear from you.

:09:29. > :09:32.What do we have here? These two blokes look like they desperately

:09:33. > :09:39.want to break into this flat, and they seem to have found a novel way

:09:40. > :09:44.to do it. No, a mop handle will not work! I wonder what they will try

:09:45. > :09:48.next! That does not look like it is working, either. They have been here

:09:49. > :09:53.for over an hour trying their luck, finally they break a pane of glass

:09:54. > :09:57.in the door and let themselves in. Police have already caught burglar

:09:58. > :10:02.number one, but they still need to get this man. He made off with more

:10:03. > :10:04.than ?2000 worth of valuables. If you recognise him, you know what to

:10:05. > :10:05.do. If you know anyone caught

:10:06. > :10:07.on camera there there, Text CW, space and

:10:08. > :10:17.then your message. Texts will be charged

:10:18. > :10:19.at your standard message rate. Rav, I never thought I'd

:10:20. > :10:30.be in this position - being booked in to custody

:10:31. > :10:33.at a police station! And this is a real custody

:10:34. > :10:37.suite in the heart of Cardiff Bay Police Station,

:10:38. > :10:39.which is used when Here to guide me through the process

:10:40. > :10:52.is Inspector Adrian Snook. You have done this for real many

:10:53. > :10:56.times before, what will happen to me this morning? When your first

:10:57. > :11:01.brought in, the arresting officer would tell the custody Sergeant why

:11:02. > :11:04.you have been arrested, the custody Sergeant would explain your rights

:11:05. > :11:09.and entitlements while in custody and ask a lot of medical questions

:11:10. > :11:14.so we can treat any medical issues you might have asked in custody. I

:11:15. > :11:17.am being filmed, cameras everywhere? It gives an openness and

:11:18. > :11:30.transparency which we did not have in years gone by. Every is different

:11:31. > :11:32.so you need to make a lot of decisions? We need to treat everyone

:11:33. > :11:35.according to individual need. Let's assume I am well and is cooperating,

:11:36. > :11:38.what happens? One of the officers would search you, they are looking

:11:39. > :11:44.for mobile phones, drugs, anything that could be used to hurt staff or

:11:45. > :11:49.yourself. And I clear? Good, what happens next? The process room, you

:11:50. > :11:53.will have your finger prints, photographs and DNA taken. Time for

:11:54. > :12:00.my close-up, I am having my mugshot taken in here. Custody officer

:12:01. > :12:06.McCauley Jessup is here. Talk me see what happens. We get the offender to

:12:07. > :12:10.take a seat, explain what is happening, we take the photograph,

:12:11. > :12:15.the prints and the impression and you will go into the system to make

:12:16. > :12:17.sure you are not involved in any outstanding crimes. Look at the top

:12:18. > :12:26.circle for me, that will take your picture. I don't think you have my

:12:27. > :12:34.best site! Fingerprints next. Pass me your index and forefingers. That

:12:35. > :12:38.will come back with a response shortly, we will be able to confirm

:12:39. > :12:44.your identity and make sure you are not involved in any outstanding

:12:45. > :12:47.crimes. Later on, I will be breathalysed and locked up as well.

:12:48. > :12:51.Right, lots more to come on the programme, including...

:12:52. > :12:53.The fake workmen who bullied Irona into handing over

:12:54. > :13:02.He said, "I have done the job and you have to pay me for it."

:13:03. > :13:03.And the police aid convoy putting counterfeit clothing

:13:04. > :13:13.to good use in some of the world's poorest countries.

:13:14. > :13:17.Next, a really cruel attack against two defenceless birds of prey.

:13:18. > :13:21.Last week, an intruder broke into the owl sanctuary in Ebbw Vale,

:13:22. > :13:26.South Wales, and shot and killed two eagles.

:13:27. > :13:29.It is called Festival Park Owl Sanctuary.

:13:30. > :13:39.Their owner Patricia Webb is here now, along with sergeant

:13:40. > :13:42.Neil Pigeon from Gwent Police, who is investigating the incident -

:13:43. > :13:44.and two of the other beautiful birds from the sanctuary,

:13:45. > :13:52.They are such gorgeous animals, it is a shop that anybody would want to

:13:53. > :13:57.harm? The two Eagles, one was a step eagle from Russia and the other was

:13:58. > :14:01.a tawny eagle from Africa. One of them was a birthday present when

:14:02. > :14:06.Malcolm was 70. He is your partner. We can see a picture of him. He was

:14:07. > :14:12.invited onto the programme and too upset because of what happens,

:14:13. > :14:18.understandably. What happens? We were at a horse show on the

:14:19. > :14:24.Saturday, we left the sanctuary at 6:30pm on Friday night, they were

:14:25. > :14:28.fine, between that time... Sorry, between that time somebody claimed

:14:29. > :14:33.in over the fence and kill the birds. And you discovered the

:14:34. > :14:39.birds... The birds were dead. What did the vet who did the postmortem

:14:40. > :14:42.say? That they had been shot. We could not wait until the vet had

:14:43. > :14:46.done that before we phoned the police. I would like to add that the

:14:47. > :14:50.police and general public have been fabulous, given us so much help.

:14:51. > :14:52.They are still doing it. This must have been a massive shock? Just

:14:53. > :15:07.awful. New comment you are interested in

:15:08. > :15:20.this. This, the way that it happened, it is very unusual.

:15:21. > :15:25.The models is unclear at this time. We believe that the individual

:15:26. > :15:30.walked through and up some steps, shot the birds, we believe the birds

:15:31. > :15:36.had been shot with an air weapon or a pistol. Someone has had to go past

:15:37. > :15:41.many other birds that seemingly have been ignored in order to target

:15:42. > :15:50.these eagles. And kill them. Which is just horrific. How can humans

:15:51. > :15:55.help? Please come forward. We know the incident took place between

:15:56. > :16:01.6:30pm on the 30th of June and 8am on the 1st of July. You think that

:16:02. > :16:04.this is something in a twist of that someone may have bragged about? It

:16:05. > :16:10.is these films you want to hear from? We were the location is close

:16:11. > :16:14.to a local shopping centre, promote someone must know something. Let's

:16:15. > :16:18.hope someone can help. Thank you so much for joining us.

:16:19. > :16:21.Next, a major operation by trading standards and police to stop fake

:16:22. > :16:33.and even dangerous goods hitting our streets.

:16:34. > :16:39.Big-name brands from films tissues, what do they have in common? These

:16:40. > :16:44.are counterfeits made by criminals to make a quick buck. They are

:16:45. > :16:54.usually very shoddily made or worse. Much worse. This is a fake blender,

:16:55. > :16:58.exploding seconds after the blade got stuck. Many counterfeits like

:16:59. > :17:03.these phone chargers or her straighteners are missing vital

:17:04. > :17:10.safety components found in the real thing. Causing them to overheat and

:17:11. > :17:19.start fires. But who's supplying all these dodgy goods? Just before

:17:20. > :17:21.Christmas police and trading standards officers hit the road to

:17:22. > :17:33.catch the counterfeiting criminals in the act. Morning, guys, thank you

:17:34. > :17:37.for turning up. It's three a.m., at a motorway service station near

:17:38. > :17:40.Worcester. The team had been briefed on their mission to stop a convoy of

:17:41. > :17:45.counterfeit goods making their way from the Midlands to Bristol. We

:17:46. > :17:52.identified vehicles in your briefing packs, all of which are based on

:17:53. > :17:57.intelligence. On the motorway police are lying in wait for any suspect

:17:58. > :18:01.farms. It's not long before the first one is pulled over. And

:18:02. > :18:11.trading standards moved in to search it. It's jam-packed full of footwear

:18:12. > :18:21.and undoubtedly they are counterfeit. Just to let you know we

:18:22. > :18:26.found counterfeit goods in the back of the fan, it's a criminal offence.

:18:27. > :18:30.Soon the car park fills up with brands which police have ordered off

:18:31. > :18:40.the motorway. It was like an Aladdin 's cave. Watches, her straighteners,

:18:41. > :18:45.an awful lot of Apple charges. Big concern really, as far as safety is

:18:46. > :18:50.concerned, really good to get it off the market. In total, five fans

:18:51. > :18:58.packed with fake goods are seized and the drivers questioned. Very

:18:59. > :19:06.pleased with what we've been able to take off the road today.

:19:07. > :19:16.The operation was a massive success but prosecuting those responsible

:19:17. > :19:21.will take time. Rhys Harries from Swansea trading standards department

:19:22. > :19:29.showed us some of the hall. This is the majority of the stock seized

:19:30. > :19:34.from France. Over 70 different brands in here, shoes, handbags,

:19:35. > :19:41.perfumes, electrical items. Probably the total value we estimate is about

:19:42. > :19:48.?1 million. Different types of watches, Armani, and what you may

:19:49. > :19:53.note, all of these aren't working. By buying a counterfeit watch, they

:19:54. > :20:00.may work in the short-term but shortly afterwards, they.. We have a

:20:01. > :20:05.lot of these, USB Power adapters. As you can see, like a sort of iPhone

:20:06. > :20:15.plug and we have serious concerns over their safety. To investigate

:20:16. > :20:21.further the plugs are sent for a series of specialist safety tests.

:20:22. > :20:27.I'm just opening up the body of this charger. This has the potential to

:20:28. > :20:31.be lethal, because this worrying here which carries mains voltage

:20:32. > :20:38.from the plugs to the circuit board is single inch elation. The chargers

:20:39. > :20:46.plugged in to see what happens. It lasts just a few minutes. It's gone.

:20:47. > :20:55.Voltage breakdown test to see how the plug would cope with a surge in

:20:56. > :21:00.mains power. This circuit board is inherently unsafe as it's allowing

:21:01. > :21:06.mains voltage to break down or pass over to the USB output socket which

:21:07. > :21:10.means the circuit itself or any cable attached to it or metal body

:21:11. > :21:15.phone attached to it could potentially become live in the event

:21:16. > :21:19.of using this charger. Buying a fake may seem like a bargain and look

:21:20. > :21:25.like the real deal but you could be putting your life at risk.

:21:26. > :21:28.Well joining me in the police interview room is Graham Mogg,

:21:29. > :21:29.who is an ex-South Wales Police officer himself.

:21:30. > :21:31.He works for a number of high-profile brands

:21:32. > :21:45.We were part of that operation was. Is this problem getting worse? Yes,

:21:46. > :21:49.thousands of goods entering the UK on a daily basis. There have been

:21:50. > :21:55.other operations to target counterfeit goods, happened there?

:21:56. > :21:57.The anti-counterfeiting group supports police and trading

:21:58. > :22:02.standards to remove these products off the street, in December alone

:22:03. > :22:06.120,000 counterfeit items seized. You have brought some fake goods

:22:07. > :22:11.with you, how big a difference as there are between the real thing and

:22:12. > :22:18.the fakes? Depends on the product, difficult for a shopper to identify

:22:19. > :22:24.a counterfeit. Safety aspect, this is fake, no friction, it will not

:22:25. > :22:32.starve because when you applied the brakes. What is this? A bit of a

:22:33. > :22:37.twist, garage service stamp, people selling these online, use them to

:22:38. > :22:40.put on the service stamp of cars so it will appear from the seller car

:22:41. > :22:46.it has a full service history. They look like the real deal. They do,

:22:47. > :22:49.people forget they have a safety aspect to them, banned substances

:22:50. > :23:02.used to convert the materials which could be harmful to the consumer.

:23:03. > :23:07.Later it will see hiring cached counterfeit items are seized to help

:23:08. > :23:09.less fortunate people. Well, it's not just fake goods

:23:10. > :23:13.you have to watch out for - it's also scammers trying to rip

:23:14. > :23:16.people off on their doorsteps. But the police are using

:23:17. > :23:25.new techniques to try to catch I felt threatened, intimidated but I

:23:26. > :23:39.think he was used to that. I was nothing to him. I was just money.

:23:40. > :23:42.Last summer and 69-year-old Antoinette Healy was returning to

:23:43. > :23:51.her Swansea home after meeting friends. As I was letting myself in

:23:52. > :24:00.through the door, there was a young gentleman coming down the drive.

:24:01. > :24:06.Asked if I would like to have my drive and patios washed. He did seem

:24:07. > :24:10.quite genuinely nice and I said, well, I'm thinking of it, so how

:24:11. > :24:18.much would you charge? And he said it would be ?150, I said, that

:24:19. > :24:26.sounds reasonable. So, I said yes, OK, you can do that for 150. But

:24:27. > :24:31.after agreeing the price, to mark all other men suddenly appeared. The

:24:32. > :24:38.men followed me into the garage. And they said how much did he called

:24:39. > :24:42.you? For doing this. I said 150. And they said, he's made a mistake, it's

:24:56. > :24:58.that much, I just can't. He said, eventually, 2500 and eight redesign

:24:59. > :25:04.everything, it would look like new and I said, OK. But he said we have

:25:05. > :25:06.got to have the money today. She says she felt pressured to go to the

:25:07. > :25:21.bank to the cash. By the time she returned she'd had

:25:22. > :25:26.second thoughts. But one of the men demanded she pay up. I said, you

:25:27. > :25:33.haven't done the work. They'd done nothing, the drive was exactly the

:25:34. > :25:37.same as it was. He said, we have, I said, no, you haven't. He said, I've

:25:38. > :25:46.done the job and you have to pay me for it. I suddenly got afraid. I

:25:47. > :25:51.didn't feel that I had any choice but to give them the money. I just

:25:52. > :25:57.felt completely intimidated. I stayed in the garage for the next

:32:34. > :32:37.eight minutes, we did this one previously, two red lines, it has

:32:38. > :32:42.tested for cannabis and cocaine and if it was positive for either you

:32:43. > :32:56.would get a secondary red line onto the device. At that point you
