:00:22. > :00:24.I can't believe that somebody could just look in to a car,

:00:28. > :00:31.And we'll meet the trainee police officers learning how to deal
:00:32. > :00:46.I'll be joining these new recruits as they're put through their paces
:00:47. > :00:49.and hopefully getting to know a few tricks of the trade myself!
:00:50. > :01:15.Hello and welcome to Crimewatch Roadshow.
:01:16. > :01:17.As always, we need your help to solve the crimes
:01:18. > :01:28.The amateur historian beaten and robbed in a cemetery.
:01:29. > :01:34.Being absolutely petrified as to what this man was going to do.
:01:35. > :01:38.And the young man murdered on his 19th birthday.
:01:39. > :01:42.We all just want to put a picture together so that we can grieve.
:01:43. > :01:50.Today we're in Wakefield at West Yorkshire Police's Carr
:01:51. > :01:57.Michelle what are you up to this time?
:01:58. > :02:01.Good morning. This is an amazing place.
:02:02. > :02:04.Police can learn everything here from breaking down doors
:02:05. > :02:08.But I don't see why the police recruits should have all the fun!
:02:09. > :02:15.I'm going to see how I match up in some of the activities
:02:16. > :02:20.First though, we're heading to Dewsbury, just down the road
:02:21. > :02:23.from where Michelle is today, And an appeal to find
:02:24. > :02:28.the dangerous driver who ploughed into a family car.
:02:29. > :02:38.It is a 40 malls and our road. This car was doing 80. I just remember
:02:39. > :02:46.saying, my baby is in the back. My baby is in the back. Tracy and Steve
:02:47. > :02:54.live in Jewsbury near Leeds with their two children, Justin and
:02:55. > :03:07.Caitlin. One morning last July, they're happy family life was thrown
:03:08. > :03:16.into turmoil. Tracy had just dropped off her son at school and stop to do
:03:17. > :03:22.some shopping before returning home. The family live on a busy main road
:03:23. > :03:28.between Dewsbury and Leeds. With Caitlin in the back of the car,
:03:29. > :03:33.Tracey prepared to pull into her driveway. I pulled up outside the
:03:34. > :03:37.house. I checked everything was clear, I had done that manoeuvre for
:03:38. > :03:45.the last ten years. Started to reverse back onto my drive.
:03:46. > :03:50.Suddenly, add black false flag and golf appeared. Dash cam captured its
:03:51. > :03:55.journey as it overtook the vehicles and sped towards Tracey's car. It
:03:56. > :04:02.smashed into the back of it where Caitlin was sitting. The impact was
:04:03. > :04:07.so hard, Tracey's car spun around 180 degrees. Everything was going in
:04:08. > :04:12.slow motion, spinning and bright light. The next thing I remember is
:04:13. > :04:19.hearing my little girl screaming. She was sat in the back. As Tracey
:04:20. > :04:23.lay slumped over the steering wheel, the driver and passenger from the
:04:24. > :04:29.golf, walked over to the car and looked in the window. But instead of
:04:30. > :04:36.helping the injured mum and toddler, they casually walked away. She could
:04:37. > :04:45.have been dead and they have just walked off. They could have helped.
:04:46. > :04:50.I pulled my hand away from my head and there was just blood everywhere.
:04:51. > :04:57.I just remember thinking, I don't know if I am going to die now.
:04:58. > :05:04.Passers-by saw the crash and phoned for help. I just remember saying, my
:05:05. > :05:09.baby is in the back. My baby is in the back. Nobody had realised
:05:10. > :05:14.Caitlin was in the back-seat. The Fire Service had to cut Tracey out
:05:15. > :05:18.of her car and she was flown to hospital by air ambulance. If it had
:05:19. > :05:30.been a bit further along, it have hit Caitlin full on. Tracey suffered
:05:31. > :05:35.a six inch head wound which are needed 40 stitches. Both she and
:05:36. > :05:39.Caitlin suffered serious bruising. Caitlin started to regress. She was
:05:40. > :05:43.suffering from nightmares. It took a long time for her to be able to
:05:44. > :05:49.sleep through the night without waking up and screaming. And some of
:05:50. > :05:56.my mental symptoms are still going on today. Which I am receiving
:05:57. > :06:02.treatment for. I just want to get on with my life. The couple desperately
:06:03. > :06:07.want crucial witnesses to come forward with information. There was
:06:08. > :06:13.a lot of people around, people that came to the car and have never come
:06:14. > :06:20.forward to the police. We just wish they would come forward and help
:06:21. > :06:25.identify the suspects because I can't believe somebody could just
:06:26. > :06:31.look into a car at a mother and child and walk away, not knowing
:06:32. > :06:37.whether they are alive or not. We just don't want this to happen to
:06:38. > :06:40.anybody else. All I can ask is, if anybody has seen them, if anybody
:06:41. > :06:45.knows who they are, please come forward.
:06:46. > :06:55.A horrible ordeal for Tracy and her family. Inspector Kris Hughes is
:06:56. > :07:02.with me. How are the family doing? They are recovering from a traumatic
:07:03. > :07:04.incident, and they are keen to see a successful resolution to this
:07:05. > :07:16.investigation. Let's remember this could have been a serious, fatal
:07:17. > :07:20.accident. The dash cam footage, is shocking but it is unbelievable the
:07:21. > :07:25.suspects didn't stop to see if they were OK. I have been in this job for
:07:26. > :07:30.20 years, and the callous disregard for the mother and child. They
:07:31. > :07:35.suffer clear injuries and they just walked off. Do we know where they
:07:36. > :07:41.went next? They have walked away from the scene of the collision up
:07:42. > :07:46.Leeds Road. That is the last site we have of them. If anybody is in the
:07:47. > :07:51.vicinity of that area on the day, get in touch. There were other
:07:52. > :07:55.people around during the incident, have they come forward? Witnesses at
:07:56. > :07:58.the scene came forward but I'm confident there are other people we
:07:59. > :08:05.want to speak to. There is a gentleman who was at the bus stop
:08:06. > :08:09.who would have seen what happened. It is crucial. What about the car?
:08:10. > :08:15.The speeding car was a black Golf and the two men inside were Asian,
:08:16. > :08:20.one wearing white trainers, blue jeans, blue top
:08:21. > :08:24.The other was wearing a white top with a black 'man bag'
:08:25. > :08:26.around his shoulder, black bottoms and white trainers
:08:27. > :08:29.We'd like to speak to anyone who may have seen this car and the people
:08:30. > :08:34.If you can help, please do get in touch.
:08:35. > :08:37.Next, time for our daily CCTV round-up.
:08:38. > :08:42.And just so you know, a couple of these are pretty nasty.
:08:43. > :08:49.Keep your eyes on this silver car. He said the occupants tried to break
:08:50. > :08:53.into a workman's van just out of view of this camera. But the van's
:08:54. > :08:59.owner and his friend stopped them and try to stop the theft. The
:09:00. > :09:02.crooks managed to get away, speeding off in the Silver car. But the
:09:03. > :09:07.workman tries to make them stop until he is thrown into the air and
:09:08. > :09:11.left for dead on the road. The victim spent two weeks in hospital
:09:12. > :09:21.with a fractured skull and bleed on the brain and has problems with his
:09:22. > :09:25.hearing and memory. Police say this camera also catches the callous
:09:26. > :09:28.crooks. Can you name them? It is the early hours on a Saturday morning
:09:29. > :09:33.and this off-licence is the last stop to pick up some drinks. Keep
:09:34. > :09:37.your eyes on the man being led into the shop by the woman in the black
:09:38. > :09:41.dress. While they are paying for their drinks, the woman has a
:09:42. > :09:46.disagreement with another guy behind her about standing in line. Having
:09:47. > :09:51.paid, they leave, but the argument carries on and things start to get
:09:52. > :09:55.heated. This guy, aggressively squares up to the woman and her
:09:56. > :10:00.bloke goes for him. Dragging the guy into the back aisle, the bloke won't
:10:01. > :10:09.stop and even his mate turns up to join in. When they have finally had
:10:10. > :10:12.enough and decide to leave, the victim is thankfully still
:10:13. > :10:18.conscious. But as a result of this attack, he had to have metal plates
:10:19. > :10:29.put in his face. This footage is clear, so take a good look at them
:10:30. > :10:36.and tell us who they are. A building site in north London. But this isn't
:10:37. > :10:40.a workman. He is a wannabe Spiderman. Thankfully, he has
:10:41. > :10:45.forgotten his mask and is caught on camera. It is not long before he has
:10:46. > :10:49.found something worth the climb. That is over ?1000 worth of tools he
:10:50. > :10:55.is passing to his mate. Without wasting any time, it he goes back
:10:56. > :11:05.over the fence and Scapa is. Do you recognise this cheeky thief.
:11:06. > :11:08.If you recognised anyone, get on the phone now.
:11:09. > :11:12.The number is 08000 468999 and calls are free.
:11:13. > :11:17.Text CW, space and then your message.
:11:18. > :11:18.Texts will be charged at your standard message rate.
:11:19. > :11:21.Here at Carr Gate police training centre, officers of all levels can
:11:22. > :11:24.learn how to do everything from advanced driving skills
:11:25. > :11:31.And one of things police often need to do is gain access to buildings.
:11:32. > :11:44.I am joint by PC Carl Hoodless. You are an instructor. Talk me through
:11:45. > :11:50.what we are going to do. Glass entry. A lot of our officers come
:11:51. > :11:53.across stores which are tougher to get through, locks are more
:11:54. > :12:00.sophisticated. The easier option for them is to go through a window.
:12:01. > :12:05.Makes sense. Talk me through it. What we will do, use this bar. Need
:12:06. > :12:09.to look through to make sure it is safe on the other side. Then you
:12:10. > :12:17.strike the glass window with the point. If you want to have a go at
:12:18. > :12:25.that. Whack it really hard, yes? Very hard. Wow! Just clear round the
:12:26. > :12:38.outside, to get rid of the broken glass. Gets a lot of tension out.
:12:39. > :12:44.OK. I am going to kneel down here, put one foot on my leg, grab the
:12:45. > :12:53.rest of the frame, and through you go. OK. I am through. Excellent,
:12:54. > :12:56.welcome to the team. It is good learning to do this, but I wouldn't
:12:57. > :13:08.like to do this would the added time pressure.
:13:09. > :13:10.Of course the hundreds of new recruits who come
:13:11. > :13:14.to Carr Gate each year have to learn how to deal with all sorts
:13:15. > :13:17.We spent a day with some of the latest trainees,
:13:18. > :13:26.These new recruits can't wait to head onto the streets to protect the
:13:27. > :13:29.citizens of West Yorkshire. But first they have to be put through
:13:30. > :13:34.their paces to make sure they are up to the job. Each new officer has the
:13:35. > :13:38.past three months of basic training, followed by ten weeks with their
:13:39. > :13:42.tutors on the beat. We are lucky enough to be heavily recruiting at
:13:43. > :13:48.the moment and that has been going on for the last 12 months. The last
:13:49. > :13:52.financial year we recruited 500 officers. It is the same for this
:13:53. > :13:59.year. We have 144 officers in the training school going to various
:14:00. > :14:02.aspects of the training. It is a busy environment. The students have
:14:03. > :14:08.spent weeks learning theory and techniques. But today, for the first
:14:09. > :14:12.time, they will be putting it into practice and assessed on how they
:14:13. > :14:17.handle a realistic scenario. The officers doing role-play are between
:14:18. > :14:21.nine and ten weeks in their training, so coming to the end of
:14:22. > :14:26.the 13 weeks. Andy and Grace are looking forward to the challenge.
:14:27. > :14:30.What is great about this training, you are on the spot and the
:14:31. > :14:34.role-play is very real and very live, so they try and put you under
:14:35. > :14:40.as much pressure as possible to see how you deal with that situation. I
:14:41. > :14:45.love it. It is great. It tests you. I do like that. We learned the
:14:46. > :14:51.academic side in the classroom and then we come and use it in the
:14:52. > :14:56.role-play. I do enjoy the role-play. Andy and Grace will be under the
:14:57. > :15:00.watchful eye of PC Andy Bell. They will be sent to a disturbance, but
:15:01. > :15:03.their officers do not know what will happen beyond that. They will have
:15:04. > :15:10.to deal with what they are faced with.
:15:11. > :15:20.It's we've got reports of a disturbance. Have you called police?
:15:21. > :15:23.Why would I call the police? Calmed down a second, what's happening. The
:15:24. > :15:34.arguing friends are just a red herring. What are you doing? The
:15:35. > :15:38.offices are engaging with the drunk male who has entered the beer
:15:39. > :15:43.garden, they are trying tactical communication to try and engage him
:15:44. > :15:51.into behaving. However, he's not going to. Calmed down a bit. Wright,
:15:52. > :15:58.last chance. Andy was taking the lead with it, if you're all getting
:15:59. > :16:02.involved, too many cooks spoil the broth. We had our own parts to play
:16:03. > :16:08.so I think we kept control very well. We tried leaving him on but he
:16:09. > :16:16.wouldn't so he was arrested for drunk and disorder. They've done
:16:17. > :16:21.what they can. He's not coming down and arrested him for drunk and
:16:22. > :16:24.disorderly behaviour. They've handcuffed him and arrested and
:16:25. > :16:28.cautioned him. It's one of the first times they've had to lay hands on
:16:29. > :16:32.somebody in a training situation and they've had to use reasonable force
:16:33. > :16:37.so the adrenaline will be flowing. Having made the arrest, the students
:16:38. > :16:39.need to take the man to the custody Sergeant where there will be
:16:40. > :16:47.assessed on how to explain the offence and their reasons for
:16:48. > :16:58.detaining him. Any force used? Too much! Handcuffs. Time to find out
:16:59. > :17:03.how they've done. He was touchy-feely and hands-on. It was
:17:04. > :17:09.hard work. If he knocks your hat off, does it matter? It doesn't
:17:10. > :17:14.matter. Let's not mess about with picking up hats, let's concentrate
:17:15. > :17:18.on the threat. Reasonable feedback. We haven't done it very often so
:17:19. > :17:24.it's about getting experience. I think it will flow a bit better and
:17:25. > :17:27.a bit easier. It you never go into a job expecting anything, everything
:17:28. > :17:33.is a surprise. You never get enough information, you've just got to be
:17:34. > :17:37.ready for anything. And preparing the students for as many situations
:17:38. > :17:44.as possible is what basic training is all about. They have a good time,
:17:45. > :17:48.they have a hard time in terms of the amount of work but that's how it
:17:49. > :17:51.should be, that balance. I'd like to think we've tried to be more
:17:52. > :17:55.innovative and helping them learn so they can be the best officers they
:17:56. > :17:58.can be. I'm not drunk and disorderly!
:17:59. > :18:00.Some very tricky scenarios there and behind me here,
:18:01. > :18:03.another class of recruits is being trained to use
:18:04. > :18:07.PC Amjad Ditta who is a firearms officer with West Yorkshire Police,
:18:08. > :18:21.When did you first get involved? I joined the police service 12 years
:18:22. > :18:24.ago. I started off as a community support officer and then transition
:18:25. > :18:29.to the police officer role. For seven years I've been an operational
:18:30. > :18:33.firearms officer as well as taking on a positive action and inclusion
:18:34. > :18:37.role. When I joined 12 years ago it wasn't seen as a career of choice as
:18:38. > :18:43.such. What kind of approach a few putting in place to encourage more
:18:44. > :18:47.people? We need to take the way we work into the public and get the
:18:48. > :18:51.feedback and change. We've made it more of a personal approach. It's
:18:52. > :18:55.about demystifying the process. Some of the experiences people have had
:18:56. > :19:03.and why they don't want to join, it's about finding out what they are
:19:04. > :19:07.and changing them. Has that been highlighted in recruitment figures?
:19:08. > :19:12.Absolutely. It's a slow incremental. Underrepresented groups application
:19:13. > :19:16.forms are about 9%. Over the last 15 months it's gone up to 25%. We want
:19:17. > :19:17.to make it more representative of the communities out there. That's
:19:18. > :19:20.fantastic, thank you. Right, lots more to come
:19:21. > :19:23.this morning, including: The callous cyclist who robbed
:19:24. > :19:29.a lone woman at a graveside. West Yorkshire Police
:19:30. > :19:35.what's your emergency? I've just been mugged
:19:36. > :19:36.in Bowling cemetery. And training by gaming,
:19:37. > :19:38.the computer game that's helping police with 21st
:19:39. > :19:43.century crime scenes. But first police urgently
:19:44. > :19:45.need your help to trace the people responsible for the murder
:19:46. > :19:50.of a teenager back in April. 16-year-old Karim Samms was out
:19:51. > :19:52.with friends when he was shot in a seemingly unprovoked attack
:19:53. > :19:56.in North Woolwich in London. I'm joined in the studio
:19:57. > :19:59.by Detective Chief Inspector Jamie Piscopo from the Metropolitan
:20:00. > :20:14.Police. As you say, Karim was 16 when he
:20:15. > :20:18.died. He had strong links to the North Woolwich area, lots of friends
:20:19. > :20:22.there and his family are devastated with what has happened. Tell us
:20:23. > :20:28.exactly when and where the attack happened. It happened at 10:40pm on
:20:29. > :20:35.the evening of Friday the 7th of April this year. Karim with three
:20:36. > :20:42.friends were sat in a part area in North Woolwich in the peer parade.
:20:43. > :20:49.It's quite a heavy residential area. They were approached by two suspects
:20:50. > :20:57.wearing balaclavas. One of them drew out a long barrelled shotgun and
:20:58. > :21:02.opened fire on Karim's group. Unfortunately Karim was hit and died
:21:03. > :21:07.of his injuries. His friend who was also hit has recovered but obviously
:21:08. > :21:11.Karim lost his life. Let's have a look at some CCTV and talk me
:21:12. > :21:23.through what we are seeing. You can see the Nissan parking up in the car
:21:24. > :21:28.park near Pier Parade. It stopped a couple of times and spoke to people,
:21:29. > :21:34.clearly looking for somebody. These are the two suspects. Once they've
:21:35. > :21:40.done the attack they've left at speed in the Nissan. That's a
:21:41. > :21:47.crucial piece of evidence we need to identify. Let's have a look at the
:21:48. > :21:51.vehicle. It's a metallic grey Nissan Duke. It's got quite distinctive
:21:52. > :21:57.black alloys. We know this vehicle was stolen on the 21st of March this
:21:58. > :22:04.year from an address in Dagenham in east London. The vehicle
:22:05. > :22:09.registration... That was when it was stolen. When the attack took place
:22:10. > :22:13.at a different place, these were what were on the vehicle at the
:22:14. > :22:20.time. We know it was false plates at the time of the murder. Those plates
:22:21. > :22:25.stayed on the vehicle until we found it two days later, burnt out in a
:22:26. > :22:29.location called Angelica drive in east London. We are very keen to
:22:30. > :22:34.hear from anybody who knows about this vehicle, whether they saw it on
:22:35. > :22:37.these plates or the other plates for about two and a half week period,
:22:38. > :22:41.any of the occupants or whether they know anything about the actual
:22:42. > :22:44.murder itself. Thank you for joining us. If you have any information
:22:45. > :22:47.please do get in touch. Now, cemeteries are supposed to be
:22:48. > :22:49.quiet and reflective places. Not what this next callous
:22:50. > :23:14.thug had in mind though, I was absolutely petrified at the
:23:15. > :23:25.time. And still shaking. I didn't know what to do. For more than a
:23:26. > :23:31.decade, Susan Steele has enjoyed exploring the historical sites of
:23:32. > :23:37.her home city Bradford. I became interested in family history in
:23:38. > :23:44.2006. I looked into my family history, and then went and became a
:23:45. > :23:48.professional genealogists. It can take me into the libraries and the
:23:49. > :23:54.archives of Bradford and West Yorkshire. But it can take you
:23:55. > :24:03.anywhere, walking around, looking at cemeteries, looking at headstones.
:24:04. > :24:15.So yes, it's what I do every day. Bowling Cemetery was just the next
:24:16. > :24:19.on the list. Back in January, Susan visited the graveyard to take some
:24:20. > :24:28.pictures for her local family history Society. I had been there
:24:29. > :24:34.working down the rows of headstones, just taking a photograph of each
:24:35. > :24:37.one. Engrossed in her work in a quiet part of the cemetery, Susan
:24:38. > :24:44.was unaware that she was being watched. They must have seen me
:24:45. > :24:58.beforehand and what I was doing, and waiting for the right moment.
:24:59. > :25:09.I didn't know what was happening. The attacker punched her repeatedly.
:25:10. > :25:15.I started screaming, being absolutely petrified to what this
:25:16. > :25:18.man was going to do. To Susan's horror, the attacker picked up a
:25:19. > :25:30.brick and threatened to hit her with it. At which point I stopped
:25:31. > :25:34.screaming. Pinning her to the floor, the man rifled through Susan's
:25:35. > :25:43.pockets and grabbed her keys. Stay here and don't move! He then went to
:25:44. > :25:48.Susan's car and stole her handbag from the boot, containing her phone
:25:49. > :25:58.and bank cards. But as he cycled away from the scene, he was caught
:25:59. > :26:00.on camera. Dazed and distraught, Susan searched for someone with a
:26:01. > :26:36.phone so she could call the police. I was obviously still shaking after
:26:37. > :26:40.I'd rung the police. Frightened that he was going to come back, because
:26:41. > :26:46.he had fiercely got the car keys, he could have come back for the car at
:26:47. > :26:52.any time. I felt very vulnerable, not knowing what to do, really.
:26:53. > :26:57.Police in Bradford are determined to find the man responsible for this
:26:58. > :27:01.cowardly crime. This was an attack on a lone female where she was
:27:02. > :27:05.pushed to the ground. A male attacked and we believe he's been
:27:06. > :27:10.watching her for quite some time, and taking the opportunity to attack
:27:11. > :27:16.her, at one point with a brick in his hand. It's quite a nasty violent
:27:17. > :27:21.crime and we'd like to trace him. The physical injuries have now
:27:22. > :27:24.healed, but the attack has left its emotional scars on Susan. I feel
:27:25. > :27:30.quite frightened about what could have happened. He could have hit me
:27:31. > :27:37.with the rock, it could have been so much worse and that's frightening. I
:27:38. > :27:45.certainly think twice about where I'm going, I don't go anywhere on my
:27:46. > :27:50.own that's isolated. And I haven't gone back to any cemetery since.
:27:51. > :27:52.That was a nasty attack that's clearly left Susan shaken.
:27:53. > :27:57.Now, in the film we saw some CCTV footage of the suspect away
:27:58. > :28:07.Let's have another look at it, talk us through what we know.
:28:08. > :28:15.We know the robbery happened at 11am on Wednesday the 25th of January.
:28:16. > :28:17.You can see the suspect about 25 minutes before the robbery occurs
:28:18. > :28:20.and he leaves immediately afterwards.
:28:21. > :28:23.He's a white male, in his early 20s, possibly around six foot,
:28:24. > :28:28.We believe he has on blue Nike trainers with some green on them.
:28:29. > :28:31.He is wearing a blue hooded top pulled over his hair,
:28:32. > :28:44.Susan's car keys, house keys and a bag containing a mobile phone and
:28:45. > :28:47.bank cards was also stolen. And one of Susan's bank cards
:28:48. > :28:51.was later used in a shop, wasn't it, and we have an image of the person
:28:52. > :28:53.who used it? Yes, a few days after the attack,
:28:54. > :28:57.on 31st Jan it was used at Mistry stores in Tong Road,
:28:58. > :29:03.Leeds. She used the contactless facility on
:29:04. > :29:08.several occasions. The shopkeeper confronted her and asked her why
:29:09. > :29:12.there was repeated use of the card. She's wearing a distinctive green
:29:13. > :29:22.coat and also she was wearing bright pink trainers. She was accompanied
:29:23. > :29:25.by two men. You are appealing for anyone who might have seen the
:29:26. > :29:29.suspects. This is a nasty attack and we are very keen to trace the
:29:30. > :29:35.persons responsible. It's worth noting that if you are a victim of
:29:36. > :29:39.any crime you can contact Victim Support.
:29:40. > :29:42.Now, when police attend the scene of a crime,
:29:43. > :29:44.they're often looking for physical evidence, such as fingerprints.
:29:45. > :29:47.But these days, digital information on devices like laptops or mobiles
:29:48. > :29:52.It can also be difficult to preserve.
:29:53. > :29:54.But a new online training tool could soon give
:29:55. > :29:58.It's been developed by Paddy Droman, a retired Chief Constable
:29:59. > :30:10.We've set up this flat in the corner of our studio.
:30:11. > :30:21.What kinds of things might be evidence here?
:30:22. > :30:29.The universal presence of things such as this, means a crime scene
:30:30. > :30:36.can be forever changing, even though it doesn't look like it. Online
:30:37. > :30:41.accounts, social media and so on. And information is constantly being
:30:42. > :30:45.processed, changed and transferred and first responders need to know
:30:46. > :30:47.how to engage with the different devices, how to recognise them and
:30:48. > :30:55.preserve the digital information within them. That is the online tool
:30:56. > :30:59.we have on our desk. This is the golden hour principle every officer
:31:00. > :31:03.works too, but at a crime scene, evidence will go quickly.
:31:04. > :31:09.Recognising this huge growth in terms of the demand of digital
:31:10. > :31:17.devices. We will see it in action now. We have been working with the
:31:18. > :31:23.Police Service of Scotland, and the University in Aberdeen, we create
:31:24. > :31:28.3-D environment, the officer can engage with. We are seeing now, they
:31:29. > :31:33.have gone in, you have found a tablet computer on the side. It
:31:34. > :31:38.gives instructions as to how best to preserve that. It is so vital and
:31:39. > :31:43.not a lot of officers would know. Yes, it is a real-life scenario,
:31:44. > :31:47.real challenges and allows the officers to make decisions and gives
:31:48. > :31:53.feedback about the decision, right or wrong. It is experienced by
:31:54. > :31:57.doing. This has been piloted in Scotland? 90 officers in Scotland
:31:58. > :32:02.and officers from the British Transport Police are a third of the
:32:03. > :32:05.way to the process at the moment and they are getting positive feedback.
:32:06. > :32:12.And you're getting positive feel back from the older officers? The
:32:13. > :32:15.older officers do better with the assessment level with this may be
:32:16. > :32:18.because they are reading the instructions more carefully.
:32:19. > :32:21.Policing never stand still. Last Wednesday's Crimewatch Roadshow
:32:22. > :32:24.was shown over on BBC Two. As a result many of you may have
:32:25. > :32:27.missed a really important appeal for information about the murder
:32:28. > :32:35.of Ziggy Owusu - the brother He was on a rare night out
:32:36. > :32:52.celebrating his 19th birthday Who thinks that going out to a
:32:53. > :33:03.birthday party means you need to bring a knife. Take it out and be
:33:04. > :33:08.stupid enough to think that. Ziggy Owusu grew up in east London and had
:33:09. > :33:12.recently started an apprenticeship. But family was always the most
:33:13. > :33:19.important thing in his life. He juggled his work alongside caring
:33:20. > :33:24.for his mum. She is deaf and blind so she does require somebody to be
:33:25. > :33:29.here with her and he was a massive part in helping with that. He was a
:33:30. > :33:36.role he took on because that is who he was. I was very, very proud of
:33:37. > :33:45.him. I always enjoyed his company. He was my best friend. He was into
:33:46. > :33:49.rugby, like playing football, dancing, looked his PlayStation.
:33:50. > :33:56.Having fun, whatever it was, he was up for it. He was a good person,
:33:57. > :34:03.somebody you know you could tell things to and they cared about you,
:34:04. > :34:11.cared about people and just somebody with a good spirit that would do
:34:12. > :34:14.good and would be a great man. In October last year, Ziggy's friends
:34:15. > :34:26.convinced him to go on a rare night out. It was his 19th birthday. They
:34:27. > :34:34.headed to a bar in Ilford. It would have been packed, they were all of
:34:35. > :34:38.Ziggy's age, 18, 19-year-old people, most people Ziggy knew, from the
:34:39. > :34:43.East London area. It was no alcohol venue but drinks were brought in.
:34:44. > :34:48.Although the dress code was smart, groups began to arrive wearing
:34:49. > :34:54.Howedes and sportswear. Ziggy and his friends moved to the dance floor
:34:55. > :34:58.but it wasn't long before things got out of control. A firework was let
:34:59. > :35:03.off and people thought it was a gunshot. The mood settled, but
:35:04. > :35:08.fights began to break out. Later there was a commotion and witnesses
:35:09. > :35:13.say Ziggy stepped in. And he wasn't the kind to get angry, get into
:35:14. > :35:18.fights, get involved in anything that could escalate to that point.
:35:19. > :35:23.Jermaine had warned Ziggy about playing the peacemaker in the past.
:35:24. > :35:30.We were telling him, don't do that, you will get hurt. You are the one
:35:31. > :35:35.that ends up with the knife in your chest. I always used to tell him
:35:36. > :35:41.that. Just don't get involved. Amongst the chaos, Ziggy was
:35:42. > :35:47.attacked. Ziggy backed away and staggered towards the exit. CCTV
:35:48. > :35:56.cameras outside the bark or the aftermath. About 12:40am we see most
:35:57. > :36:01.of the people emptying out from the club. I believe that is when people
:36:02. > :36:06.have realised what has happened to Ziggy. The knife had cut through two
:36:07. > :36:12.major blood vessels and within minutes, Ziggy had collapsed. At
:36:13. > :36:17.1:45am he was pronounced dead. The family got the call to say he had
:36:18. > :36:24.bled to death. There is absolutely a million things I would have
:36:25. > :36:29.predicted that call to be. Not one thing, not one single idea, no way,
:36:30. > :36:35.would it be that Ziggy has been stabbed and he is dead. The actual
:36:36. > :36:39.murder of Ziggy may have been very quick and very quiet. He has
:36:40. > :36:45.received one stab wound and that could have been over in a split
:36:46. > :36:51.second. This event has completely devastated his family and the local
:36:52. > :36:58.community where Ziggy is from. We all just want to put a picture
:36:59. > :37:04.together so we can grieve. It's not enough to lose somebody, it's just
:37:05. > :37:12.not knowing why. Not that it makes it any better, but understanding why
:37:13. > :37:16.lives and families are torn apart and ripped to shreds and you are
:37:17. > :37:17.left to put everything back together without even knowing how this
:37:18. > :37:23.happened in the first place. Now detectives still want to hear
:37:24. > :37:28.from around 50 party goers who were at the Basement Lounge Shisha Bar
:37:29. > :37:31.in Goodmayes in Ilford that night. In particular they would
:37:32. > :37:41.like to speak to this person who was seen on camera
:37:42. > :37:43.at a nearby convenience store. Police believe he may be a key
:37:44. > :37:45.witness and urgently If you can help please call or text
:37:46. > :37:50.the numbers on screen now. Or if you prefer you can speak
:37:51. > :37:52.to Crimestoppers anonymously. New groups of recruits
:37:53. > :38:00.are continually coming through the doors here at Carr Gate,
:38:01. > :38:03.and this batch are just three weeks Instructor PC Rory
:38:04. > :38:23.Romani is with me now. This group are learning unarmed
:38:24. > :38:30.defensive tactics. The last 12 months in West Yorkshire we have had
:38:31. > :38:35.1400 police officers assaulted. Police and staff as well, not just
:38:36. > :38:38.officers. That is for officers a week, we have to make sure they are
:38:39. > :38:46.prepared to look after themselves and members of the public. This
:38:47. > :38:51.trail is looking at blocking for the Saturday night big punch that might
:38:52. > :39:01.come in in town. I am going to have a go. Come forward. Nice to meet
:39:02. > :39:05.you. Not that we look at this exchange of conversation in real
:39:06. > :39:14.life. Nice defensive stance, boxer stands. He will start throwing some
:39:15. > :39:19.punches in and you will block them. Put a block in yourself and then
:39:20. > :39:23.move out of the way, Michel. It is not just about punching them, it is
:39:24. > :39:29.about defence. How am I doing so far? What I would say, stay in on a
:39:30. > :39:33.Saturday night. Cheers, Rory. Time now for a look
:39:34. > :39:37.at today's Wanted Faces. Starting with Nicky Gould, who also
:39:38. > :39:39.calls himself Nicky Sherman. The 34 year old was due to appear
:39:40. > :39:48.at Harrow Crown Court in connection to a burglary at a house in north
:39:49. > :39:51.London, but he didn't turn Gould has a cross tattoo
:39:52. > :39:55.on his right forearm and links Next is 24-year-old
:39:56. > :39:59.Joshua Rodney Lewis. Detectives investigating an attempt
:40:00. > :40:02.to get drugs into Pentonville prison via a line over the wall believe
:40:03. > :40:04.he may have vital information Lewis has tattoos on both arms
:40:05. > :40:09.and links to the Islington, Haringey and Enfield
:40:10. > :40:13.areas of London. This is Jonathan Tawse,
:40:14. > :40:15.although he also calls Detectives in Cardiff
:40:16. > :40:21.would like to speak to him in connection with a burglary
:40:22. > :40:24.and attempted burglary at the homes The 28-year-old has a tattoo
:40:25. > :40:29.of the name Katy on his back and travels extensively around
:40:30. > :40:31.the UK, with particular links to Cardiff, Thatcham, Reading,
:40:32. > :40:41.Uxbridge and Aberdeen. after a large quantity of class
:40:42. > :40:46.A drugs were discovered He didn't turn up in court though
:40:47. > :40:51.and a warrant has been Jack has connections across
:40:52. > :40:56.Yorkshire, Cheshire and Merseyside, If you know where any of these faces
:40:57. > :41:02.are, make sure you get in touch Rav, I've come out to
:41:03. > :41:08.the driver training area. And this is the place where any
:41:09. > :41:12.West Yorks police officer who drives a vehicle is put through their paces
:41:13. > :41:15.and learns advanced I'm in the car with Dave Berry,
:41:16. > :41:19.one of the trainers here - and you're going to test my skills
:41:20. > :41:36.behind the wheel this morning! Why is it important for officers to
:41:37. > :41:39.learn to drive like this? This car simulates adverse weather
:41:40. > :41:44.conditions. Police officers have to be able to drive and react
:41:45. > :41:49.accordingly to adverse weather, snow and ice and things. I am a novice at
:41:50. > :41:56.this, what tips have you got for me? When you get into a skid, remove the
:41:57. > :42:01.cause. In this case it will be steering or moving too quickly. At
:42:02. > :42:07.the rear wheel skid, steer it into the direction to which the backend
:42:08. > :42:19.is swinging out. Steer into the direction? OK. Let's give it a go.
:42:20. > :42:26.Good speed. Turn. Nearly. I just felt like I was going round and
:42:27. > :42:29.round. You did well. Maybe I need to do an advanced driving course.
:42:30. > :42:33.Time now for a look at what's been coming
:42:34. > :42:41.You have called in with information and a potential name which
:42:42. > :42:44.detectives say is of interest. Michelle, where will
:42:45. > :42:46.you be tomorrow? Rav, I'll be ending the week
:42:47. > :42:48.in Leicester and we're talking forensics -
:42:49. > :42:50.old and new! I'll be meeting the brilliant
:42:51. > :42:52.scientists who investigated the death of King Richard III more
:42:53. > :42:55.than 500 years ago - you'll probably remember
:42:56. > :42:57.that his body was found under a city Amazingly they're using some
:42:58. > :43:04.of those similar techniques to help They'll even be revealing what
:43:05. > :43:08.they've found after testing my DNA! Sounds like a fascinating
:43:09. > :43:11.way to end the week. For more details about the crimes
:43:12. > :43:14.on today's programme, Before we go, here's another look
:43:15. > :43:17.at this morning's wanted faces. If any of them look familiar, get
:43:18. > :43:21.in touch and tell us where they are. We'll be back tomorrow morning,
:43:22. > :44:01.until then, take care. Brexit means Brexit.
:44:02. > :44:04.We did it! To pretend that it's going to be
:44:05. > :44:07.plain sailing is such knuckle-headed lunacy.
:44:08. > :44:10.Happy days are here. They have said one thing one day,
:44:11. > :44:13.another thing the next day.
