:00:07. > :00:12.The real-life Goldfinger gunned down in his back garden. There might be

:00:13. > :00:16.some people who don't have a tremendous amount of empathy, but

:00:17. > :00:18.there is someone out there who is prepared to assassinate someone.

:00:19. > :00:23.The Halloween rioters who attacked police.

:00:24. > :00:31.And the rise in gun crime in Britain's second city.

:00:32. > :00:37.There's some mother, some girlfriend, some father, knows where

:00:38. > :00:45.that gullies and can help me to take that gun off the street. -- knows

:00:46. > :01:06.Good evening and welcome to Crimewatch.

:01:07. > :01:08.We're live for the next sixty minutes with crime investigations,

:01:09. > :01:12.A full reconstruction of the John "Goldfinger" Palmer case in just

:01:13. > :01:15.a moment but first a brief look at what else we have

:01:16. > :01:22.We've a fresh collection of wanted faces - one

:01:23. > :01:27.Get dialling straight away if you know where any of them are.

:01:28. > :01:31.Plus, some truly shocking crimes caught on camera,

:01:32. > :01:36.including this horrendous attack on a woman in south London.

:01:37. > :01:43.The inside story of a dogged investigation into a fatal hit

:01:44. > :01:45.and run which led detectives on the trail of a mysterious Russian

:01:46. > :01:59.A notorious figure, linked to a string of huge

:02:00. > :02:09.He was once described as Britain's richest criminal with a fortune

:02:10. > :02:14.No doubt, he had plenty of enemies but what we need to know tonight

:02:15. > :02:17.is who would go so far as to hire a professional hit man

:02:18. > :02:47.It would be hard not know who John Palmer was.

:02:48. > :02:50.The man known as Britain's richest prisoner has been ordered to hand

:02:51. > :02:54.over ?35m to help compensate the victims of his crime.

:02:55. > :02:58.John Palmer who's also known as Goldfinger is serving an 8 year

:02:59. > :03:01.sentence for one of the world's biggest time share swindles.

:03:02. > :03:05.Palmer was originally nicknamed Goldfinger after being acquitted

:03:06. > :03:10.of handling gold from the Brinks Mat bullion raid in 1983.

:03:11. > :03:18.At one point he even appeared next to the Queen on the Sunday Times

:03:19. > :03:21.rich list - with an estimated fortune of three hundred million

:03:22. > :03:27.Without doubt he has made mistakes in his life.

:03:28. > :03:29.I believe he's paid for those mistakes.

:03:30. > :03:37.returned to his family in Essex. of years in and out of prison John

:03:38. > :03:45.normal life. that he readjusted to a very

:03:46. > :03:49.My dad was like my best friend and my dad so there was always fun

:03:50. > :03:53.and games - as you say - as large as life.

:03:54. > :03:56.He's not this gangster that everyone would paint him to be in the press

:03:57. > :04:00.He spent all of his time with either my mum or

:04:01. > :04:07.You know there was never a day that went past that I spent with him

:04:08. > :04:09.that he wasn't laughing or joking around.

:04:10. > :04:10.He was never serious about anything, erm...

:04:11. > :04:21.On 24th of June last year, John, and his family were at their home

:04:22. > :04:30.I quite often work in the kitchen and I was trying to send some emails

:04:31. > :04:34.He was very, very playful, pulled the hairband from my hair,

:04:35. > :04:40.just generally really, really infuriating.

:04:41. > :04:42.Unable to concentrate on her work Christina went horse riding

:04:43. > :04:53.I apologised to him because I'd been a little bit tough on him,

:04:54. > :04:56.I'd told him off for being so infuriating.

:04:57. > :04:59.Told him I loved him and he gave me a kiss,

:05:00. > :05:04.and that was the last time I saw him alive.

:05:05. > :05:09.After Christina left John spent the next few hours outside.

:05:10. > :05:12.Previously unreleased CCTV captures him as he walks

:05:13. > :05:23.His son James and his girlfriend were in the house.

:05:24. > :05:26.I was studying in the kitchen because I had two financial

:05:27. > :05:28.regulatory exams that I was going to be sitting

:05:29. > :05:34.My girlfriend was in the lounge, she wasn't at work that day

:05:35. > :05:44.My dad was pottering around in the garden with the dogs.

:05:45. > :05:46.At the back of the garden he'd started a bonfire,

:05:47. > :05:53.At around five o'clock James and his girlfriend decided to work

:05:54. > :05:59.While they exercised John continued to collect things in his buggy

:06:00. > :07:22.These are the last CCTV images of him that afternoon.

:07:23. > :07:27.I really didn't realise anything had happened.

:07:28. > :07:38.I didn't hear any voices. I didn't hear my dogs bark, I didn't hear

:07:39. > :07:45.gunshots. It was very, very quiet. Can you tell me exactly

:07:46. > :07:54.what's happened? My dad has passed out he's covered

:07:55. > :07:59.in blood, I don't know what's wrong with him.

:08:00. > :08:03.I could still feel his heart beating, I thought there

:08:04. > :08:09.could still be a chance that we could keep him alive.

:08:10. > :08:21.I felt so hopeless because I had to watch him die in front of me.

:08:22. > :08:25.I can totally understand that there might be some people that

:08:26. > :08:28.don't have a tremendous amount of empathy towards our situation,

:08:29. > :08:33.or the loss of John purely because of his reputation,

:08:34. > :08:40.but I think forgetting John Palmer, forget who this is about,

:08:41. > :08:44.what you've got to stop and think about, or what we have to stop

:08:45. > :08:46.and think about is that there is someone out there

:08:47. > :08:48.that is prepared to do such a barbaric act.

:08:49. > :08:56.You know just to assassinate someone.

:08:57. > :09:05.A cold-blooded, brutal murder. DCI Stephen Jennings is the lead

:09:06. > :09:10.detective on the case. Are you sure this was a professional hit? If, we

:09:11. > :09:15.strongly leave it was very much professional, contract killing. What

:09:16. > :09:20.I inquiry had to do is not only identify and locate the gunmen, but

:09:21. > :09:24.identify and prosecute whoever has commissioned the crime. Why do you

:09:25. > :09:29.think he was killed? Our enquiry since June of last year has led us

:09:30. > :09:35.on to two significant lines of enquiry. John was due to stand trial

:09:36. > :09:39.for real estate fraud in mainland Spain April this year. Coupled with

:09:40. > :09:44.key crimes committed in the UK during 2015 and law enforcement

:09:45. > :09:48.intervention with organised crime and organised crime families. Those

:09:49. > :09:53.key crimes in the UK, Hatton Garden, there are rumours his death could

:09:54. > :09:57.have been linked to that. There's a lot of speculation around Hatton

:09:58. > :10:00.Gardens, it's something we are considering along with other crimes

:10:01. > :10:07.committed at the time. Is it a strong line of enquiry? One of many.

:10:08. > :10:11.What do you know about the gun that was used. We think it's similar to

:10:12. > :10:18.the one shown here, self loading revolver, smooth bore and 0.32

:10:19. > :10:26.calibre rounds were used. Where he lived is the secluded area. There

:10:27. > :10:30.are people you would like to talk to. His house is surrounded by

:10:31. > :10:34.woodland. This mail was seen by members of the public around the

:10:35. > :10:40.time John was murdered, five foot ten, White, wearing baggy clothing.

:10:41. > :10:43.We can see a map of the area he was killed, there were people today

:10:44. > :10:47.before seen digging. Other witnesses we are trying to trace, in

:10:48. > :10:52.particular two men seen around midday, 24 hours beforehand, 23rd of

:10:53. > :10:57.June. We'd like to see and identify these people. The house is right in

:10:58. > :11:02.the middle here, really secluded. There were women fought on camera

:11:03. > :11:06.that day. Remember of the public has come forward and identified a

:11:07. > :11:10.photograph. These women were seen in the background. We would like them

:11:11. > :11:14.to contact us. No suggestion they have anything to do with the case,

:11:15. > :11:19.they happened to be in the area and you would like to talk to them. They

:11:20. > :11:25.could have key evidence. There is a substantial reward on offer. The

:11:26. > :11:30.family has offered ?50,000 leading to the arrest and conviction of

:11:31. > :11:33.parties involved in this crime. As you've heard, John Palmer may have

:11:34. > :11:41.had enemies, but nobody deserves what happened to him. The gunmen and

:11:42. > :11:46.those behind it needs to be caught. You can call now on our usual

:11:47. > :11:50.number. Detectives are standing by for your calls.

:11:51. > :11:53.A round up of crime news now starting with the release

:11:54. > :11:55.of previously unseen CCTV of a shocking attack on a woman

:11:56. > :12:00.This footage shows the moment the woman was punched several times

:12:01. > :12:02.in the attack in Hanover Park in Lewisham on Friday

:12:03. > :12:08.She was left unconscious on the pavement as the attacker ran

:12:09. > :12:13.Detectives believe it's linked to two other violent attacks on lone

:12:14. > :12:17.women in the Lewisham area in December and January.

:12:18. > :12:20.In this CCTV a woman is followed home in Creekside at around 5am

:12:21. > :12:31.Just out of sight of the cameras she is grabbed and punched

:12:32. > :12:34.In the third attack on Friday 4th December another woman

:12:35. > :12:37.was grabbed and punched in the head several times in Commercial Way.

:12:38. > :12:40.Police would like to speak to this man in connection

:12:41. > :12:47.If you can help please get in touch using the numbers on screen.

:12:48. > :12:53.Police are offering a ?20 thousand reward in connection with the case.

:12:54. > :12:56.Also in London, The Met police want your help in tracking down

:12:57. > :12:59.a group responsible for a large scale disturbance on the 31st

:13:00. > :13:02.Police came under attack when they tried to break up

:13:03. > :13:08.an illegal Halloween rave on Lambeth High Street.

:13:09. > :13:10.23 officers were injured, as was a police dog

:13:11. > :13:12.as the disturbance spread over the surrounding streets

:13:13. > :13:23.Well joining me now is Commander BJ Harrington from the Met.

:13:24. > :13:31.These are ugly scenes? This is some of the most serious public disorder

:13:32. > :13:38.we have seen in years. We have had police officers attacked with

:13:39. > :13:43.bottles, bricks and a petrol bomb and a police dog attacked. And the

:13:44. > :13:47.community has been terrorised. The people who arrange these music

:13:48. > :13:51.events are putting people's lives at risk. As you see, they're prepared

:13:52. > :13:58.to use violence when we try to stop them. A big disturbance, you have

:13:59. > :14:03.made 73 arrests and you're looking to make more tonight. There are four

:14:04. > :14:07.faces we would like to identify. We will be relentless in tracking these

:14:08. > :14:09.people down and the other 45 people on our web-site who we want to

:14:10. > :14:12.identify. Thank you. If you recognise anyone

:14:13. > :14:15.in the footage then please call incredible CCTV of a bungling

:14:16. > :14:20.burglar who knocks himself out after falling through a garage

:14:21. > :14:30.roof in South Wales. Dyfed-Powys police are investigating

:14:31. > :14:32.the burglary at Panteg Garage in Llanelli which happened

:14:33. > :14:35.between 12.30 and 1am last Thursday. The man who was attempting to break

:14:36. > :14:38.in, was unconscious for around five minutes before his accomplice

:14:39. > :14:41.climbed down to see if he was ok. If you know who these men

:14:42. > :14:50.are, give us a call. Finally, we're well used to crimes

:14:51. > :14:53.being re-enacted on Crimewatch but this rare footage

:14:54. > :14:54.uncovered and preserved by the British Film Institute shows

:14:55. > :14:57.what's thought to be the world's In a forerunner to one

:14:58. > :15:08.of our 'How They Caught' films, the clip recreates the moment

:15:09. > :15:10.Liverpool fraudster Thomas Goudie Goudie was working at a bank

:15:11. > :15:14.when he stole ?170,000 Even the crooks dressed

:15:15. > :15:24.well in those days. Overall, gun crime has fallen

:15:25. > :15:27.significantly in recent years but worryingly the very latest

:15:28. > :15:31.figures show a spike in offences. Proportionally, Birmingham now has

:15:32. > :15:37.more gun violence than anywhere else in the country, so we asked

:15:38. > :15:40.Marcia Shakespeare, whose 17-year-old daughter Letisha

:15:41. > :15:56.was killed in a drive-by shooting 2003 Birmingham. The police have got

:15:57. > :16:01.used to gun crime, but nothing like this. In the early hours of this

:16:02. > :16:06.morning they were called to a shooting outside a party at a hair

:16:07. > :16:10.dresser's. The whole area had been sprayed with gun fire and they found

:16:11. > :16:14.two teenage girls shot dead and two wounded.

:16:15. > :16:36.I don't want in the incident. It has got to stop now. If you do not come

:16:37. > :16:43.forward, after this... Just watching that brings me back to the point of

:16:44. > :16:51.being in that room. And thinking about what the hell's happening. Why

:16:52. > :16:59.am I actually saying these things? Now it has been 13 years and I'm

:17:00. > :17:04.back asking the question about guns on the streets of Birmingham.

:17:05. > :17:08.In the last decade, gun crime has fallen significantly in the UK.

:17:09. > :17:13.But worryingly, latest statistics now show a rise.

:17:14. > :17:15.Here in the West Midlands there are proportionally more

:17:16. > :17:19.incidents than anywhere else in the country.

:17:20. > :17:26.Kenny Bell is head of the force's CID.

:17:27. > :17:33.So what is the situation now? We have seen in the summer time to

:17:34. > :17:37.autumn of last year a spike, specifically around the people using

:17:38. > :17:42.guns, but then discharging them as well. Which is really concerning.

:17:43. > :17:44.In the six months to January this year

:17:45. > :17:47.47 gun shots have been recorded in the West Midlands - compared

:17:48. > :18:04.of one of the recent shootings that happened in January.

:18:05. > :18:13.Just down here, it was half four in the afternoon, a lad was on a bike,

:18:14. > :18:20.got off his bike, o' took out a gun and fired it four times. It was luck

:18:21. > :18:24.not judgment that we were not dealing with four fatalities there.

:18:25. > :18:30.Ran back to his bike. Kept his gun. And he is away. So damaging, because

:18:31. > :18:38.it seems like a nice, quiet residential area. And yet gun

:18:39. > :18:44.crime's taking place. And concerning is that was at half 4 in the

:18:45. > :18:48.afternoon in daylight. That person is still outstanding and I have not

:18:49. > :18:53.recovered that gun. We are working hard to identify it and the

:18:54. > :18:57.community can help us. There is some mother, some girlfriend, some

:18:58. > :18:59.father, some brother, knows where that gun is and can help me to take

:19:00. > :19:05.that gun off the street. But why are guns

:19:06. > :19:07.being used more often? I'm meeting Darryl Laycock

:19:08. > :19:10.from Manchester. He served 12 years in prison

:19:11. > :19:16.for firearms offences, but says he's turned

:19:17. > :19:20.his life around. Like me, he now works with young

:19:21. > :19:35.people, steering them away It was widely known that I was

:19:36. > :19:43.pretty heavily involved in violence. I was shot on three occasions within

:19:44. > :19:51.four years. Seen my mate get killed in front of me. I seen it all. Did

:19:52. > :19:57.you at that point decide to leave that life? No, if anything that made

:19:58. > :20:05.we want to stay on the road more. I wanted revenge. What caused someone

:20:06. > :20:09.to shoot you? Just retaliation really, tit-for-tat from the

:20:10. > :20:16.beginning. My daughter when she was murdered, my response at that points

:20:17. > :20:21.was, I just want justice. And I didn't want justice in the sense to

:20:22. > :20:26.say, well time going to go and retaliate, I'm going to go and

:20:27. > :20:30.think, well, someone's killed my child, so you know, I'm going to

:20:31. > :20:36.kill someone else's child. When I was on the streets, I wanted the

:20:37. > :20:40.justice of the streets, but yeah, I put my family through a load of

:20:41. > :20:46.stress. A bullet went through the window of my mum's house and she was

:20:47. > :20:50.nearly hit. That was through my selfish behaviour. I have lost over

:20:51. > :20:56.30 friends and family. It is hard, but I don't think it is as hard for

:20:57. > :20:59.me as you, because you gave birth to your daughter. Every parent wants

:21:00. > :21:03.for them to outlive them. The desire to avenge and the tit

:21:04. > :21:06.for tat that Daryll talked about is something

:21:07. > :21:08.I know only too well. My daughter and her friends were

:21:09. > :21:12.caught between two warring gangs. Since her death, police have

:21:13. > :21:20.developed more tools to help them tackle gun crime, including

:21:21. > :21:33.the National Ballistics Intelligence Most of the shooting incidents we

:21:34. > :21:37.see are actually urban street gangs, or organised crime groups.

:21:38. > :21:39.Experts here are using cutting edge forensic technology to gather

:21:40. > :21:49.crucial evidence from the scene of a crime.

:21:50. > :21:51.They're able to identify the type of gun and the ammunition

:21:52. > :21:56.whether they've been used by criminals before.

:21:57. > :22:03.Mainly it is hand guns. We have seen an increase in the use of antique

:22:04. > :22:13.hands guns. If you don't have a criminal record, anyone can buy an

:22:14. > :22:19.antique firearm. This is a revolver, French, from 1873. And under UK

:22:20. > :22:29.legislation it is regarded as an antique, because the ammunition is

:22:30. > :22:34.obsolete. But the criminals can make ammunition to fit this weapon.

:22:35. > :22:37.With the work of NABIS, the picture of gun crime is clearer.

:22:38. > :22:44.But does a rise in shootings mean more guns on the streets?

:22:45. > :22:51.We are seeing firearms that are used on the streets that have never been

:22:52. > :22:54.seen before and a lot are based on this antique firearm. We have seeing

:22:55. > :22:59.some guns that are being used more than once in a crime. It shows that

:23:00. > :23:03.there are few firearms available, so people have to use these different

:23:04. > :23:09.methods to find guns. What are the police doing to stop gun crime? In

:23:10. > :23:15.the unfortunate times whaep shooting does occur, our investigations are

:23:16. > :23:19.relentless, scenes of crime, witnesses, house to house, we are

:23:20. > :23:22.doing everything we can. We are executing warrants and doing a

:23:23. > :23:28.firearms operation almost every day. But we are not just going to arrest

:23:29. > :23:37.our way out of this. It is critical to ensure that the generation of

:23:38. > :23:41.toddlers now in ten or 15 years are not that generation wanting to get

:23:42. > :23:43.involved in gangs and commit crime and feel they need to use a gun to

:23:44. > :23:49.do that. Thankfully, the level of gun crime

:23:50. > :23:51.is significantly lower now And compared to other countries,

:23:52. > :24:03.shootings are relatively rare. But I know one is enough to cause

:24:04. > :24:12.a lifetime of heartache. If you think you can help

:24:13. > :24:15.with the January shooting featured in Marcia's report full

:24:16. > :24:19.details are on the website. You can also find a special

:24:20. > :24:22.interview with the Chief Constable of West Midlands Police explaining

:24:23. > :24:25.why he wants more armed officers and his concerns over

:24:26. > :24:33.antique weapons laws. The urgent hunt for this man wanted

:24:34. > :24:54.for raping a teenager at a nature It has made a huge impact on my life

:24:55. > :24:55.and I would feel so happy to know he could never do anything like this to

:24:56. > :25:02.anyone again. But we've got wanted faces first

:25:03. > :25:04.starting with James, or Jamie Acourt who you might

:25:05. > :25:14.recognise as one of the original suspects in the Stephen

:25:15. > :25:16.Lawrence murder inquiry. old is wanted for questioning

:25:17. > :25:19.by detectives in connection with the supply of cannabis worth

:25:20. > :25:22.in excess of 4 million pounds. Police say this photo

:25:23. > :25:24.gives a better idea He has always denied involvement

:25:25. > :25:27.in the 1993 killing Acourt has links to South East

:25:28. > :25:31.London, Kent and also to Spain. Next is Tariq Javed

:25:32. > :25:35.although he is also known as Dariq. He was on trial for multiple counts

:25:36. > :25:38.of sexually abusing a child under the age of 13, but didn't hang

:26:33. > :26:35.using the numbers on screen. We'll go through the rest

:26:36. > :26:39.of the line up a little later. Early on a Monday evening

:26:40. > :26:42.in September a teenager in Derby She thought a walk in the fresh air

:26:43. > :26:48.around the local nature Tonight, for the first time,

:26:49. > :26:53.she explains what happened next. The past few months have been hard -

:26:54. > :27:09.it's been a challenge to go out It has made a huge

:27:10. > :27:22.impact on my life. on my own, now I find it very hard

:27:23. > :27:32.to go out on my own at all. I would feel so happy to know

:27:33. > :27:36.that he could never do anything That day I had not been well,

:27:37. > :27:54.I had been sick earlier Instead I decided I would go

:27:55. > :28:11.for a walk to get some fresh air. I didn't take my dog

:28:12. > :28:14.as I would have normally, because he too wasn't well

:28:15. > :28:23.and couldn't walk very far. When I headed out for my walk

:28:24. > :28:26.at about 5.00pm it was nice weather, As I walked on the nature reserve

:28:27. > :29:01.from the entrance near the river. He made me feel

:29:02. > :29:12.a little uncomfortable. I just thought to myself,

:29:13. > :29:15."why should I be afraid?" "He's just

:29:16. > :29:17.going for a walk by To avoid walking straight past him,

:29:18. > :29:30.I walked through a gate on my right and walked round the nature

:29:31. > :29:35.reserve that way. I saw no one else until I was almost

:29:36. > :29:40.the whole way round and nearly at the gate on the opposite side

:29:41. > :29:48.of the nature reserve. And realised it was the same

:29:49. > :29:56.guy I saw earlier. Then before I could run

:29:57. > :30:14.and jump over the gate. after I've gone don't

:30:15. > :30:50.call the police. After he left I got up and found

:30:51. > :30:53.all my clothes that he'd thrown I got dressed quickly; I didn't

:30:54. > :31:00.worry that he would come back I ran the way I had walked so not

:31:01. > :31:30.to risk bumping into him again. Shortly after I wasn't too bad,

:31:31. > :31:33.I was very jumpy but I think My boyfriend said that I would shake

:31:34. > :31:55.a lot during the night. Something that really shocked me

:31:56. > :31:58.is that during the incident and in my fear I told

:31:59. > :32:01.the man I was 10 years old, would feel wrong about

:32:02. > :32:04.what he was about to do. This shows that these kinds

:32:05. > :32:12.of people do not care? These people need to

:32:13. > :32:30.be found and stopped. Such a shocking story. We are joined

:32:31. > :32:33.by DCI David Cox. This is a terrifying case, it could have

:32:34. > :32:39.happened to anyone. How is this young woman now? She's been

:32:40. > :32:44.incredibly brave. What do you know about the man who did it? The person

:32:45. > :32:50.they are looking for is a white male about six foot tall, stocky build,

:32:51. > :32:54.25-30 years old. We know he was wearing a black hooded top with

:32:55. > :33:03.white detail on it. He wore aviator glasses. At one point, the witness

:33:04. > :33:13.saw him carrying a can of energy drink, Monster. We even have his DNA

:33:14. > :33:16.but no match. The description is really, really good. And the

:33:17. > :33:22.situation with the forensic evidence is also excellent. The information

:33:23. > :33:29.is the suspect could well have been in the nature reserve anything up to

:33:30. > :33:33.an hour before. First, if there was anyone in the nature reserve on the

:33:34. > :33:35.7th of September and witnessed anybody who matched this

:33:36. > :33:39.description, please get in touch. Have a good look at the image that

:33:40. > :33:42.has been produced and if it looks like somebody you know, again,

:33:43. > :33:47.please call in. The forensic evidence except really easy to

:33:48. > :33:53.eliminate somebody who isn't involved. Please don't be scared

:33:54. > :33:58.about phoning him. It was a very secluded area, she saw very few

:33:59. > :34:01.people. How much do you know about the route, how he arrived and left.

:34:02. > :34:05.He was possibly in the nature reserve anything up to an hour

:34:06. > :34:08.before the offense took place. We know very little of his activities

:34:09. > :34:14.before. Certainly afterwards, as you can see, he exited the nature

:34:15. > :34:21.reserve towards the northern most end. As the victim said, he didn't

:34:22. > :34:26.care, didn't seem to care. You must be really concerned he could attack

:34:27. > :34:31.again. Absolutely, it's worth remembering this took place in

:34:32. > :34:35.September, it was daylight. There could have been any number of people

:34:36. > :34:38.in the nature reserve who interrupted him while he was

:34:39. > :34:44.committing this fence. A very brazen attack. Please do take another look

:34:45. > :34:48.at this image. Officers are standing by ready

:34:49. > :34:54.to take your call. Or, if you prefer you can call

:34:55. > :34:56.Crimestoppers anonymously. OK, time for our CCTV roundup now

:34:57. > :35:07.and we've got some particularly If you've been a victim of any

:35:08. > :35:13.crime, you may want to speak to victim support.

:35:14. > :35:16.OK, time for our CCTV roundup now and we've got some particularly

:35:17. > :35:25.cunning crooks this month so keep your eyes peeled.

:35:26. > :35:29.Inside a bar in Shoreditch in London. This snappily dressed man in

:35:30. > :35:33.a flat cap isn't here for a drink. It's the laptop on

:35:34. > :35:34.the floor he's after. A few nimble moves and hey presto

:35:35. > :35:37.he picks up the unsuspecting drinker's computer

:35:38. > :35:40.and just walks away. A different bar, almost seven months

:35:41. > :35:43.earlier and he's at it again. He spots what he wants and moves

:35:44. > :35:49.in swiping another laptop. He casually uses his foot and steals

:35:50. > :36:01.another computer from right under The brazen thief even

:36:02. > :36:05.hangs around at the bar , before leaving with

:36:06. > :36:16.the stolen goods. Put a stop to this laptop lifter.

:36:17. > :36:22.Now listen carefully to this one, private CCTV picks up the sound

:36:23. > :36:25.as these men break in to an 88-year-old man's home in Widnes

:36:26. > :36:34.They search through the pensioner's possessions.

:36:35. > :36:42.They take war medals, and thousands of pounds worth

:36:43. > :36:50.of other valuables leaving the victim extremely distressed.

:36:51. > :36:56.Do you recognise these lowlife thieves?

:36:57. > :37:03.November again and still in Cheshire, but this time

:37:04. > :37:05.inside a building society in Runcorn.

:37:06. > :37:11.Demanding money, he then moves to the next cashier and then

:37:12. > :37:15.the next stashing more cash than he can carry.

:37:16. > :37:22.He then walks out, calm as you like, with ?6,000 of loot.

:37:23. > :37:27.It's hard to see his face, but someone knows who this gun-wielding

:37:28. > :37:30.bank robber is. Name, please. Lunchtime outside a shop

:37:31. > :37:36.in Toxteth in Liverpool. A security guard arrives to fill

:37:37. > :37:38.the cash machine inside. Closely followed by this man,

:37:39. > :37:43.in a green hoodie and shorts. In the store, the man

:37:44. > :37:47.in shorts grabs the box, before legging it down the street

:37:48. > :37:59.with thousands of pounds in cash. It's hardly subtle. Who is this

:38:00. > :38:04.Another shop - this time a jewellers in St Ives in Cornwall.

:38:05. > :38:06.This man isn't hanging around for opening though,

:38:07. > :38:10.after smashing his way in, he picks up a rubbish bin and heads

:38:11. > :38:15.He forces open a cabinet and fills the bin with expensive jewellery.

:38:16. > :38:25.He then leaves the shop with his haul worth ?30,000.

:38:26. > :38:31.Recognise him? Swap his bracelets for handcuffs and shop him.

:38:32. > :38:33.Swap his bracelets for handcuffs and shop him.

:38:34. > :38:36.Finally, we have this fella - out shopping on a Wednesday

:38:37. > :38:42.The only problem is he doesn't want to pay for it!

:38:43. > :38:45.He asks the assistant if he can look at two expensive watches

:38:46. > :38:50.Before sitting down to try the first one on.

:38:51. > :38:57.No prizes for guessing what happens next.

:38:58. > :39:02.A quick glance at the exit and he sprints out of the shop,

:39:03. > :39:09.still wearing the two watches, worth over ?2,000 each.

:39:27. > :39:34.Let's catch up on new developments. DCI Stephen Jennings good evening.

:39:35. > :39:39.Any significant leads on John Palmer? Yes, really important

:39:40. > :39:43.information about John and his activity in Spain, Tenerife and

:39:44. > :39:46.links to organised crime in the UK. There will no doubt be some people

:39:47. > :39:51.watching this programme who don't have sympathy for what's happened to

:39:52. > :39:55.him and his family, what would you say to them? There is a really

:39:56. > :40:00.important message. Despite John's mistakes in life, it's important the

:40:01. > :40:05.public help us to tackle organised crime, crimes involving firearms.

:40:06. > :40:09.You specifically want more information about this gun. We do,

:40:20. > :40:22.now, we may be able to source that and identify its location. Please

:40:23. > :40:32.keep those calls coming. Still to come to night: how police

:40:33. > :40:38.caught a hit and run killer. Why ten years on she is yet to face justice.

:40:39. > :40:42.This was the most difficult case I've ever been involved with. The

:41:14. > :41:19.will have changed. He was jailed for 10 years

:41:20. > :41:22.for importing class A drugs back in 1994, but absconded from prison

:41:23. > :41:25.and is still on the run. Tyler is 50 years old and has

:41:26. > :41:30.friends and family in Essex and Greater London, but police

:41:31. > :41:33.believe he could now be abroad. Face number 7 is Genci Koburi,

:41:34. > :41:36.although you may know him He was arrested after a major

:41:44. > :41:49.on bail, but has disappeared. He's 42 and originally from Albania

:41:50. > :41:51.but has links across Wiltshire And finally tonight we have

:41:52. > :41:58.Alexandre Raphael Varelo. Detectives in Sussex

:41:59. > :42:01.want to question him in connection The 19 year old is originally

:42:02. > :42:07.from Portugal and has friends If you know where any of the other

:42:08. > :42:13.faces are then get in touch And of course they're

:42:14. > :42:21.all on the Crimewatch website. now to update you on some previous

:42:22. > :42:25.cases and there are some really fantastic results, many

:42:26. > :42:27.thanks to your calls. In 2008 we featured )the horrific

:42:28. > :42:30.murder of Georgina Edmonds She'd been stabbed several times

:42:31. > :42:35.and battered to death Well after a long investigation 36

:42:36. > :42:43.year old Matthew Hamlen was last month found guilty of her murder

:42:44. > :42:47.and sentenced to 30 years in prison. He'd faced trial for the killing

:42:48. > :42:50.in 2012 but was acquitted. Detectives then found new DNA

:42:51. > :42:52.evidence which finally The court heard Mrs Edmonds had been

:42:53. > :43:10.tortured for her debit Your calls have helped put this man

:43:11. > :43:19.behind bars after we showed this footage in March last year.

:43:20. > :43:21.Hannifin was wanted for a large number of distraction burglaries

:43:22. > :43:25.at the homes of elderly victims across the South East.

:43:26. > :43:29.His victims were mostly in their 80's and 90's.

:43:30. > :43:32.You called in naming Hannifin and last month he was jailed for 15

:43:33. > :43:40.years having been charged with 31 burglaries and 1 robbery.

:43:41. > :43:44.following a spate of thefts of artefacts from museums

:43:45. > :43:47.and auction houses across the country.

:43:48. > :43:50.The gang smashed a hole in the wall of the Oriental Museum in Durham

:43:51. > :43:52.to steal over 2 million pounds worth of antiques.

:43:53. > :43:55.CCTV caught the thieves arriving at the Fitzwilliam Museum

:43:56. > :43:57.in Cambridge where over 15 million pounds of Chinese

:43:58. > :44:06.Well last week 14 members of an organised crime gang

:44:07. > :44:08.were convicted for their roles in stealing artefacts from museums

:44:09. > :44:26.This man appeared on the programme last July wanted for human

:44:27. > :44:30.trafficking offenses. You cold in with information which led to his

:44:31. > :44:34.arrest within a few hours of the show. The court heard the man, his

:44:35. > :44:37.brother and his mother kept a man enslaved for five years, taking his

:44:38. > :44:39.passport from him and keeping his wages. He was jailed for three years

:44:40. > :44:43.and three months. drug dealer Bernard Wanjiru,

:44:44. > :44:49.who was wanted back in prison after failing to stick

:44:50. > :44:50.to the conditions Well your calls led police

:44:51. > :44:54.to East London, where Wanjiru was arrested and he has now

:44:55. > :45:07.been returned to jail And we asked for help to find this

:45:08. > :45:12.man, Carl Atkins last year. He was wanted for stabbing a man in an

:45:13. > :45:17.attempted robbery in Norfolk. Well after seeing himself on Crimewatch,

:45:18. > :45:23.Atkins handed himself in and yesterday was jailed for ten years.

:45:24. > :45:27.Another great result. We couldn't do it without you.

:45:28. > :45:29.This is Thomas Sippel-Dau, he was a Computer Technician

:45:30. > :45:36.Tomorrow will mark exactly eleven years since he was mowed down

:45:37. > :45:45.And, despite the obvious severity of his injuries, the

:45:46. > :45:50.Detectives were unable to trace the person responsible,

:45:51. > :45:52.that is until they asked for your help.

:45:53. > :45:54.But a decade later, despite being convicted,

:45:55. > :46:23.the woman who killed Thomas is yet to face justice.

:46:24. > :46:32.Thomas Sippel-Dau was a German national living in London. He was an

:46:33. > :46:37.extraordinary person. He would help anyone. Some people thought he was

:46:38. > :46:42.strange when they met him. . But when you got to know him, you

:46:43. > :46:54.realised he had a heart of gold and a real softy. Tom as work as a

:46:55. > :47:08.computer technician and he finished his shift and cycled home.

:47:09. > :47:14.Thomas's head injuries were catastrophic, despite paramedics

:47:15. > :47:18.trying to revive him, he never regained consciousness. The He would

:47:19. > :47:24.have been doing everything properly along that road. I couldn't believe

:47:25. > :47:28.it. I felt devastated. And very angry actually. Because Thomas you

:47:29. > :47:39.know would not have done anything wrong. This was the most difficult

:47:40. > :47:48.case I have been involved with, the investigation was long, complicated

:47:49. > :47:52.and had many twists and turns. CCTV showed a dark car speeding from the

:47:53. > :47:58.scene seconds after Thomas was hit. It jumped a red light before making

:47:59. > :48:03.a quick get away done the Earl's Court road. Witnesses described it

:48:04. > :48:07.as a range Rover, but didn't catch the registration. Police

:48:08. > :48:12.investigating the case had their work cut out for them. Forensically

:48:13. > :48:17.we didn't recover anything from the scene. However we did find a lot of

:48:18. > :48:24.debris that we thought probably was from the vehicle that failed to

:48:25. > :48:29.stop. We realised we had got some coloured bodywork and it looked to

:48:30. > :48:33.be an unusual colour. The debris was taken to a Land Rover for

:48:34. > :48:40.inspection. That is our 50th anniversary colour. Scomblit was

:48:41. > :48:44.called Atlantic blue and only 85 cars was made in that shade and one

:48:45. > :48:52.was almost Southern think vehicle that mowed Tom is a down. This was a

:48:53. > :48:58.stroke of good fortunre. It narrowed our search down. With a price tag of

:48:59. > :49:04.?70,000 it was clear the police were hunting for a criminal with

:49:05. > :49:13.considerable means. Land Rover gave them the vehicle identity numbers of

:49:14. > :49:18.all 85 cars. I now had 85 names and addresses. Working through them was

:49:19. > :49:27.a long, slow process. Three months later only a handful had been traced

:49:28. > :49:32.and eliminated. It was hoped Crimewatch could speed up the

:49:33. > :49:38.search. One caller thought they had seen a damaged Atlantic blue range

:49:39. > :49:54.Rover a hundred miles away in the Midlands. Hey had seen v -- he had

:49:55. > :50:03.seen ra car that day. A colleague and I went United.

:50:04. > :50:05.Incredibly one caller thought they'd seen a damaged

:50:06. > :50:07.Atlantis Blue Range Rover 100 miles away in the Midlands.

:50:08. > :50:10.He'd actually seen a car like this that day in a small garage

:50:11. > :50:13.in a village outside Leicester so the day after the programme

:50:14. > :50:15.a colleague and I went up to look at the vehicle.

:50:16. > :50:19.I didn't want to get my hopes up but I was very excited.

:50:20. > :50:22.In amongst the debris recovered from the incident was

:50:23. > :50:25.Forensic examinations of the Range Rover in Leicester

:50:26. > :50:29.This proved beyond all doubt that this vehicle had been

:50:30. > :50:31.at the scene and was almost certainly the vehicle

:50:32. > :50:34.Someone had tried to have its identity destroyed.

:50:35. > :50:36.They failed and police were able to track the car back

:50:37. > :50:45.A woman by the name of Natela Galogre.

:50:46. > :50:47.She was a multi- millionairess with connections within the Georgian

:50:48. > :50:51.She certainly knew a number of very wealthy Russian oligarchs and moved

:50:52. > :50:54.But when police went to question her, she'd vanished.

:50:55. > :50:56.However, they soon discovered where she'd been the night

:50:57. > :51:01.We were able to prove that she'd attended a function at the House

:51:02. > :51:04.of Lords on the night of the collision and in fact

:51:05. > :51:11.we were able to obtain pictures that showed her drinking at that event.

:51:12. > :51:13.Natela left the House of Lords early at 9 o'clock.

:51:14. > :51:22.Minutes after that, she was spotted by a neighbour parking up

:51:23. > :51:31.Significantly, he noticed damage to the Range Rover.

:51:32. > :51:33.The evidence was stacking up against her, and she aroused even

:51:34. > :51:44.further suspicion when detectives discovered that she'd fled

:51:45. > :51:46.to her mother's home in Moscow, where as a Russian citizen
