0:00:02 > 0:00:05This is The Real Hustle: New Recruits.
0:00:05 > 0:00:07The hustlers are back, and this time,
0:00:07 > 0:00:11they've brought in two new faces to help them with their scams -
0:00:11 > 0:00:14new recruits Polly and Jazz.
0:00:16 > 0:00:21They'll join original hustlers Paul, Jess and Alex.
0:00:21 > 0:00:24Working together as a team, they'll carry out scams
0:00:24 > 0:00:28that are more cunning and devious than ever before.
0:00:28 > 0:00:32On tonight's show... Gareth Gates dabbles in the stock market.
0:00:32 > 0:00:34Buy, buy, buy - come on, let's go!
0:00:34 > 0:00:37Alex hooks up with a couple of ladies.
0:00:37 > 0:00:39Oh, I see, we've gone for the link? Interesting.
0:00:39 > 0:00:43And this guy will never trust anyone again.
0:00:43 > 0:00:46The guy was gone, with his stuff and my stuff.
0:01:31 > 0:01:33The hustlers have invited celebrity friends
0:01:33 > 0:01:35to help them with their scams.
0:01:35 > 0:01:37They'll be thrown in at the deep end -
0:01:37 > 0:01:41no training and no practice, just straight in.
0:01:43 > 0:01:48This week's celebrity guest hustler is a Pop Idol finalist,
0:01:48 > 0:01:51who's sold more than 3.5 million records - Gareth Gates.
0:01:51 > 0:01:57I'm nervous. It's the fear of the unknown more than anything.
0:01:57 > 0:02:03Having to try and act, and be someone else to try and scam people.
0:02:03 > 0:02:06I'm naturally a nice person,
0:02:06 > 0:02:10so to try and con someone is quite against my nature.
0:02:13 > 0:02:19Naturally, I'm quite nervous about doing the scam, because of my speech.
0:02:19 > 0:02:22Looking forward to that challenge.
0:02:22 > 0:02:25- Let me tell you what we're going to do.- OK.
0:02:25 > 0:02:28Have you ever dabbled in stocks and shares?
0:02:28 > 0:02:32- Well...- A bit?- Yeah. - OK, good. That's good.
0:02:32 > 0:02:37- We're going to give somebody the opportunity to double their money today.- OK.
0:02:37 > 0:02:43- Now, YOU are going to be in charge of the trading room floor.- OK!
0:02:43 > 0:02:46You've got a few things to do that...you've got to get 'em right.
0:02:46 > 0:02:48- Right.- All right? You ready?
0:02:48 > 0:02:51- Yeah. Let's do it. - All right. Come on, come with me.
0:02:53 > 0:02:55Gareth will be a long way from the stage,
0:02:55 > 0:02:58and totally out of his comfort zone in...
0:02:58 > 0:03:00The Stock Swindle.
0:03:05 > 0:03:08The hustlers have set up shop in a corporate office building,
0:03:08 > 0:03:11which they've hired for the day.
0:03:14 > 0:03:15This is the mark.
0:03:15 > 0:03:19She's been invited along to hear about an investment opportunity,
0:03:19 > 0:03:21and has been told to bring money.
0:03:23 > 0:03:25Jess is playing the role of a secretary,
0:03:25 > 0:03:28and has brought the two young ladies upstairs.
0:03:28 > 0:03:31The first stop is the trading room floor,
0:03:31 > 0:03:35to meet Rob Marks, the investment fund manager.
0:03:35 > 0:03:37- Keep an eye on both sides... - Mr Marks...?
0:03:37 > 0:03:39This is Carrie and Georgina.
0:03:39 > 0:03:41- Hi there. You are?- Carrie.
0:03:41 > 0:03:42Carrie... Nice to meet you.
0:03:42 > 0:03:44This is our trading floor.
0:03:44 > 0:03:46Basically what these guys are doing is
0:03:46 > 0:03:49they're looking at all the opportunities to buy and sell
0:03:49 > 0:03:52and basically make as much money as possible.
0:03:52 > 0:03:55And we have a small advantage, but a very effective advantage.
0:03:55 > 0:03:58What they're looking at is for any kind of increase.
0:03:58 > 0:04:02And we have a little bit under a minute advantage on every other market in the UK.
0:04:03 > 0:04:06Well, it's all down to technology...
0:04:06 > 0:04:10And here's Gareth's first big role. The Convincer.
0:04:10 > 0:04:12Right, guys, we're on 14.50.
0:04:12 > 0:04:16As soon as it reaches 14.70, that's when we're going to be...
0:04:16 > 0:04:18We're going to have a small window, and you just need to blitz it, OK?
0:04:18 > 0:04:21He's playing the trading floor boss,
0:04:21 > 0:04:24assisted by trader and new recruit, Jazz.
0:04:24 > 0:04:27We're looking at gold right now.
0:04:27 > 0:04:30Gold goes up and down, but it's been going up steadily.
0:04:30 > 0:04:31For this scam to work,
0:04:31 > 0:04:35they must convince the marks this is a legitimate financial business.
0:04:35 > 0:04:39And they're about to put on a show.
0:04:39 > 0:04:41Buy gold! Buy gold!
0:04:41 > 0:04:44So we basically buy it all at a low price,
0:04:44 > 0:04:46and then sell it all at a high price.
0:04:46 > 0:04:50- So they do it in a very, very quick turnaround.- Three, two, one...
0:04:50 > 0:04:53- and stop buying!- Stop now, stop, everyone!- Stop buying!
0:04:53 > 0:04:56We're going to stop buying, cos the price is about to go up.
0:04:56 > 0:05:00- Guys, you need to start selling at 15.10.- Tell us when.- Five, four...
0:05:00 > 0:05:02It all sounds pretty convincing.
0:05:03 > 0:05:06- ..sell!- So now they're going to sell everything.
0:05:06 > 0:05:07The price'll keep going up,
0:05:07 > 0:05:09it'll steady out, and then come down again.
0:05:09 > 0:05:12And we will have sold at the top.
0:05:12 > 0:05:16So... Anyway, why don't I take you round and explain? It's a little noisy in here!
0:05:16 > 0:05:19Gareth's performance seems to have done the job.
0:05:19 > 0:05:21Guys, thank you very much. Marius...
0:05:21 > 0:05:24And the girls haven't recognised him. So far, so good.
0:05:24 > 0:05:26Three, two, one... And stop trading!
0:05:26 > 0:05:30- That's it. Stop there, guys. - Stop trading, guys. Well done.
0:05:32 > 0:05:36That's great. We basically just made about £500,000 there. So it's not a bad...
0:05:36 > 0:05:40- Paul leads his clients away from the noisy trading floor... - Let me take you through here.
0:05:40 > 0:05:43..to an investors' lounge just down the corridor.
0:05:43 > 0:05:45All right, have a seat...
0:05:45 > 0:05:47The girls settle into the lounge.
0:05:47 > 0:05:50Let me just go and check one little thing.
0:05:50 > 0:05:54That's actually one of our investors, believe it or not. I'll just be right back.
0:05:54 > 0:05:58TV: 'Gold is experiencing some very good spikes recently...'
0:05:58 > 0:06:00The TV is showing a financial news report.
0:06:00 > 0:06:04But Paul switches it on to a live feed from the trading floor.
0:06:04 > 0:06:06It's time for...
0:06:06 > 0:06:08The Pitch.
0:06:08 > 0:06:10Every 20 years or so,
0:06:10 > 0:06:14the entire industry changes how it does business, and how it transfers information.
0:06:14 > 0:06:18And if you think about it like TV moving from analogue to digital,
0:06:18 > 0:06:21and next year, everyone is rolling out to a new system.
0:06:21 > 0:06:24And that system is much faster than the information we get just now.
0:06:24 > 0:06:29So when they get a price now, it's actually about a minute old.
0:06:29 > 0:06:32This is much faster. And it will be about 15 seconds old.
0:06:32 > 0:06:35So here's how the company works.
0:06:35 > 0:06:40TRH Trading have charts showing live prices from the Asian markets.
0:06:40 > 0:06:45It's a brand-new system for Europe, and only THEY have it right now.
0:06:45 > 0:06:49It means they get information 45 seconds ahead of all their competitors.
0:06:49 > 0:06:51Buy, buy, buy, come on, let's go!
0:06:51 > 0:06:54So they look for a peak in prices, buy low,
0:06:54 > 0:06:57and sell high for a guaranteed profit.
0:06:57 > 0:06:59- Stop trading!- Stop there, guys. - Stop trading, guys.
0:06:59 > 0:07:03And Paul's looking for investors to share a piece of the action.
0:07:03 > 0:07:08So, if you're interested in investing with us, trade for a day with us...
0:07:08 > 0:07:11any amount of money you like, we guarantee to double it.
0:07:11 > 0:07:15And that's just as a "Welcome to the company, this is what we can do for you" kind of deal.
0:07:15 > 0:07:18If you then decide to invest your money -
0:07:18 > 0:07:23not just the money you make but hopefully the money that you're going to put in in the future -
0:07:23 > 0:07:25then we will
0:07:25 > 0:07:29basically discuss the kind of package that you would want, how much you would make...
0:07:28 > 0:07:31We don't double your money every month.
0:07:31 > 0:07:33In this one-year advantage that we have,
0:07:33 > 0:07:36we try and guarantee everybody
0:07:36 > 0:07:41at least one third compound per month on the money that you put in.
0:07:41 > 0:07:45We know what's going to happen, we know how to make money with it
0:07:45 > 0:07:47and we can guarantee our customers
0:07:47 > 0:07:50a very good investment for the first year.
0:07:53 > 0:07:55It's never failed.
0:07:55 > 0:07:58If I know I can buy something for £1 and that in 40 seconds
0:07:58 > 0:08:02everyone wants to buy it from me for £2, it's easy.
0:08:06 > 0:08:09- When we see that spike - you saw earlier how big it got?- Yeah.
0:08:09 > 0:08:13When we see that, we know that we buy here and sell there.
0:08:13 > 0:08:16That's without any risk whatsoever.
0:08:16 > 0:08:20So, if you bring money today, we'll double it for you. If anything went wrong,
0:08:20 > 0:08:22I'd give you the money out of my own pocket.
0:08:22 > 0:08:24That's how sure I am about this.
0:08:24 > 0:08:27I want you to understand what we're doing.
0:08:27 > 0:08:29The most important thing is that you understand
0:08:29 > 0:08:31that WE know what we're doing.
0:08:31 > 0:08:33OK? The guys that you saw in the room are some of
0:08:33 > 0:08:37the best and brightest from the business. They really know what they're doing.
0:08:37 > 0:08:40Why don't I give you some time to think about it?
0:08:40 > 0:08:44- Susie?- Mm-hmm?- Are you going down to the coffee shop?- I can do.
0:08:44 > 0:08:48- Would you take them? Give them some time?- Sure. - If you need to go to the bank.
0:08:48 > 0:08:51- All right? - The mark doesn't have to make her mind up right away.
0:08:51 > 0:08:53Sorry to rush you...
0:08:53 > 0:08:56Jess takes the girls downstairs to a coffee shop to think about it.
0:08:56 > 0:08:58- I'll hopefully see you in a little while.- Yeah.
0:08:58 > 0:09:01- Carl got your e-mail.- He did? - Yep. He says everything's fine.
0:09:01 > 0:09:03- Thank you.- Take care.
0:09:03 > 0:09:08And as luck would have it, the party bumps into another couple of investors -
0:09:08 > 0:09:11Alex, and the other new recruit, Polly.
0:09:11 > 0:09:13And that's no accident.
0:09:19 > 0:09:21Alex should look familiar to them
0:09:21 > 0:09:26because he was the financial reporter they saw on TV moments ago.
0:09:26 > 0:09:30And Bolivia are very strong suppliers of the Arabica bean.
0:09:30 > 0:09:34How could anyone resist valuable investment advice from this guy?
0:09:34 > 0:09:37He's here to give the company that final seal of authenticity.
0:09:37 > 0:09:42I love Rob. I've been working with him for years. We've been acquaintances, but...
0:09:42 > 0:09:46My advice to you - and I wouldn't say this in front of Rob
0:09:46 > 0:09:49but that's why I've sort of accompanied J -
0:09:49 > 0:09:53is, if you're going to invest today, try and invest as much money as you can.
0:09:53 > 0:09:58Even if it's, you know... Even if it's £100 here, £50 there,
0:09:58 > 0:10:00scrape as much of it as you've got...
0:10:00 > 0:10:05So Alex's completely unbiased advice is to invest as much as possible.
0:10:05 > 0:10:07I brought somebody down
0:10:07 > 0:10:11and Rob hadn't sort of explained the terms as clearly
0:10:11 > 0:10:14and the guy said, "Oh, all right, I'll do £500." Something small.
0:10:14 > 0:10:17And he made 500 back.
0:10:17 > 0:10:22He went, "Great! Next time I'll do 2,000." And Rob said, "No, I'm afraid next time is minimum of 10."
0:10:22 > 0:10:25So, he looked at me and he said, "Oh God, I wish I knew.
0:10:25 > 0:10:28"I would've just got all the money I had..."
0:10:28 > 0:10:33Has financial reporter Alex done enough to convince the mark to invest?
0:10:33 > 0:10:38She's about to find out you shouldn't always trust people you see on TV.
0:10:39 > 0:10:41How much are you guys putting in today?
0:10:43 > 0:10:45Oh, no! Get your stuff. Quick.
0:10:45 > 0:10:49- We need to get out! - I've just given them my money! - Come. Now, now - come on!
0:10:58 > 0:11:02When hustlers go out, they don't bring money, they bring prop bets -
0:11:02 > 0:11:05challenges designed to win or lose a drink.
0:11:05 > 0:11:08But a proposition bet only has one rule
0:11:08 > 0:11:12and that's that the hustler always wins.
0:11:14 > 0:11:18Right, I've got a bet for you guys. It's a very simple bet.
0:11:18 > 0:11:23It uses two paperclips and a rubber band. Right?
0:11:23 > 0:11:27Now, I'll tell you what - to make it interesting, we'll do this bet for £10. Right?
0:11:27 > 0:11:31So, I'm going to put £10 up. Here's the bet.
0:11:31 > 0:11:35You've got to pick up both these paperclips with the rubber band
0:11:35 > 0:11:39but you can't touch the paperclips. You can only touch the rubber band.
0:11:39 > 0:11:42You can put the paperclips anywhere you like
0:11:42 > 0:11:45but you can only touch the rubber band.
0:11:45 > 0:11:46All right?
0:11:47 > 0:11:49So, to avoid buying Alex a drink,
0:11:49 > 0:11:52his new friends have to hook all three items together.
0:11:52 > 0:11:55But after they've positioned the paperclips,
0:11:55 > 0:11:58they're not allowed to touch them again.
0:11:59 > 0:12:00- Rachel, do you want to go first?- OK.
0:12:07 > 0:12:09Oh, I see. We've gone for the link. Interesting.
0:12:09 > 0:12:13If you manage to get one up, then the other one will be linked in.
0:12:13 > 0:12:15Makes sense. Logical.
0:12:20 > 0:12:23It's like the Krypton Factor! Right, Katie, do you want to have a go?
0:12:23 > 0:12:26- Are you going to go along the same route?- Yeah.- You are?
0:12:26 > 0:12:29Because it worked so well for Rachel?!
0:12:30 > 0:12:33- Oh, I thought you had it there. - Stuck.
0:12:34 > 0:12:38All right. I'll show you. I'm going to position the paperclips
0:12:38 > 0:12:41then link them to the rubber band. I'm going to use this £10 note.
0:12:41 > 0:12:46It's not cheating cos I didn't say you couldn't use anything. Right? Okay. So, here we go.
0:12:46 > 0:12:49We'll fold this bit over, get the paperclips...
0:12:49 > 0:12:51OK.
0:12:51 > 0:12:52That's one...
0:12:54 > 0:12:57Rubber band goes around the bank note like that...
0:12:57 > 0:13:01Fold this over, put the other one on...
0:13:02 > 0:13:06Ready? Two paperclips on the rubber band...
0:13:07 > 0:13:10..without touching them. One, two, three...here we go.
0:13:12 > 0:13:15The trick here is to use the tenner.
0:13:16 > 0:13:20Alex folds it over, attaches one paperclip,
0:13:20 > 0:13:22then the rubber band.
0:13:22 > 0:13:26He then fold the note again and adds the other paperclip.
0:13:26 > 0:13:32Then, he just pulls. As if by magic, all three items are hooked together.
0:13:32 > 0:13:37I think I'll have a... another one of those, please.
0:13:51 > 0:13:55Because, a few minutes later, his laptop is gone.
0:13:57 > 0:14:00This is The Trusting Stranger.
0:14:05 > 0:14:07It's a beautiful, sunny morning
0:14:07 > 0:14:11and it looks like new recruit Polly is dressed for a spot of cycling.
0:14:11 > 0:14:14But first, she stops off for some light refreshments.
0:14:16 > 0:14:20In fact, she's having a good look around this cafe for a suitable mark.
0:14:20 > 0:14:23A mark with a suitably expensive laptop.
0:14:29 > 0:14:33Time for a bit of friendly flirting.
0:14:33 > 0:14:36Excuse me, do you know if there's any, like... I've got a bike.
0:14:36 > 0:14:40Do you just ride on the road here, or is there bike lanes, and...
0:14:40 > 0:14:44Yeah, there's a few. You just have to take your chance with the traffic when there's not, so...
0:14:44 > 0:14:46You just find them?
0:14:46 > 0:14:52- It's quite nippy out today, isn't it? - Isn't it?- It looks sunny but...deceiving.- Yes!
0:14:55 > 0:14:57SHE SIGHS
0:14:57 > 0:15:02- I was riding on my bike and I was like, brrr!- Keep you nice and warm, all that exercise.
0:15:02 > 0:15:04Yeah. It's nice and warm in here, actually.
0:15:04 > 0:15:06It's a good spot in the sun.
0:15:06 > 0:15:09- Are you from here?- Polly's certainly turning on the charm
0:15:09 > 0:15:12and this guy seems happy to get all her attention.
0:15:17 > 0:15:19SHE CLEARS THROAT
0:15:21 > 0:15:24Here's someone else looking for his morning coffee.
0:15:24 > 0:15:27It's new recruit, Jazz.
0:15:27 > 0:15:30And his entrance is Polly's cue to get up and leave.
0:15:33 > 0:15:39- But timing is crucial here. - Hi there. Could I just get, er...
0:15:39 > 0:15:42- Actually, I'll grab one of these smoothies.- Yeah, yeah - cool.
0:15:42 > 0:15:46Polly doesn't want anyone else to sit down next to the mark,
0:15:46 > 0:15:47only Jazz.
0:15:49 > 0:15:50Thank you.
0:15:52 > 0:15:57So, she makes a bit more small talk until he takes her place.
0:15:57 > 0:16:00Which is the best way, d'you think, to cycle to the West End?
0:16:00 > 0:16:04- Byres Road? Have you heard of that? - Yeah. Go up to the traffic lights...
0:16:04 > 0:16:07- Yep.- And turn left...- Okay. - Follow the road round...
0:16:07 > 0:16:11- Seamless.- OK, cool. Thank you. Nice to meet you.
0:16:11 > 0:16:13One customer leaves, another arrives.
0:16:13 > 0:16:16The mark doesn't suspect that these two hustlers
0:16:16 > 0:16:19are really working together as a team.
0:16:21 > 0:16:22Jazz has only just arrived
0:16:22 > 0:16:25but it's already time for him to make his move.
0:16:25 > 0:16:28Excuse me, mate...
0:16:28 > 0:16:32do you mind just looking after this while I go to the toilet?
0:16:32 > 0:16:34All right. Cheers, mate.
0:16:34 > 0:16:36So what's Jazz up to?
0:16:36 > 0:16:40Why is he leaving his laptop with a complete stranger?
0:16:40 > 0:16:44In fact, this is all part of the plan.
0:16:50 > 0:16:52Jazz is back from the gents.
0:16:52 > 0:16:55Thanks a lot, mate. Cheers.
0:16:55 > 0:16:59Lucky for him, his laptop is still there. This is clearly an honourable mark.
0:17:01 > 0:17:05Now, for the final part of the scam. Polly is still outside.
0:17:05 > 0:17:08Looks like she's having a bit of trouble with her bike lock.
0:17:08 > 0:17:11If only there was a big, strong man to help her.
0:17:13 > 0:17:15Hi, it's only me again. I'm sorry!
0:17:15 > 0:17:18Er, my... this, won't work in my, er, lock.
0:17:18 > 0:17:21- I don't know if you could help me. It's like a big...- Yeah.
0:17:21 > 0:17:23Will the mark help?
0:17:23 > 0:17:26And what's he going to do with that laptop of his?
0:17:26 > 0:17:29Jazz trusted him earlier with his laptop.
0:17:29 > 0:17:33Maybe he'll ask for the same favour in return.
0:17:35 > 0:17:39I can't do it! Is that all right?
0:17:39 > 0:17:41- Yeah, yeah - of course. - Thank you. Sorry.
0:17:41 > 0:17:43I don't know if I'm just being silly.
0:17:43 > 0:17:47I've been trying for ages! And I'm really trying to do it but it's...
0:17:47 > 0:17:50it's not working. It's literally only here.
0:17:50 > 0:17:54The mark is just out of sight of the windows. And his laptop.
0:17:54 > 0:17:56It's just a bit stiff.
0:17:56 > 0:18:01Jazz needs to time his move just right, or he'll be in deep trouble.
0:18:01 > 0:18:05- I wouldn't have said it was you. - Time to go.
0:18:06 > 0:18:09Trying to act as casual as possible, Jazz packs up his gear.
0:18:11 > 0:18:13And whilst the mark is distracted...
0:18:13 > 0:18:16If I turn it much harder, it'll break the plastic.
0:18:16 > 0:18:19..Jazz helps himself to his laptop.
0:18:19 > 0:18:22- I can't help you, I'm afraid. - Oh, no! Don't say that!- Sorry!
0:18:22 > 0:18:24The mark is on his way back...
0:18:24 > 0:18:27Thank you, though. Cheers, nice to meet you. Bye.
0:18:27 > 0:18:30..and Jazz is on his way out by the other exit.
0:18:30 > 0:18:32And not a moment too soon.
0:18:54 > 0:18:57The mark is left wondering what on earth happened.
0:18:57 > 0:19:00- It looks sunny but... deceiving. - Yes!
0:19:01 > 0:19:04A chat with a beautiful girl over coffee
0:19:04 > 0:19:06has suddenly turned into a nightmare of a day.
0:19:06 > 0:19:09There's no sign of Polly.
0:19:09 > 0:19:12And that bike wasn't hers in the first place.
0:19:12 > 0:19:14No wonder the key didn't fit.
0:19:16 > 0:19:18The girl said, "Sorry to bother you."
0:19:18 > 0:19:21Asked me if I would help her with her bike lock
0:19:21 > 0:19:23that appeared to be jammed. I thought,
0:19:23 > 0:19:28I've looked after this guy's stuff, he'll be fine looking after mine. Went back in after 30 seconds.
0:19:28 > 0:19:31The guy was gone, with his stuff and my stuff.
0:19:31 > 0:19:36So, yeah, it was quite clearly... er, they were operating together.
0:19:39 > 0:19:44The key to this scam is that Jazz asks the mark to look after his laptop for him.
0:19:44 > 0:19:48When the mark goes off to help Polly, he feels obliged to do the same.
0:19:48 > 0:19:51He doesn't want to offend Jazz by not returning his trust.
0:19:51 > 0:19:54It's easy to avoid a scam like this.
0:19:54 > 0:19:57By all means help people, but take care of your property when you do.
0:19:57 > 0:20:00And don't leave it with someone that you don't know.
0:20:00 > 0:20:04There's no shame in being cautious with your own possessions.
0:20:13 > 0:20:17Earlier today, Gareth Gates played the role of a futures trader,
0:20:17 > 0:20:20helping the hustlers convince this mark
0:20:20 > 0:20:23that she was dealing with a legitimate financial company.
0:20:23 > 0:20:26- Now, now, Marius. - Buy gold, buy gold!
0:20:26 > 0:20:28She's been offered the chance to invest
0:20:28 > 0:20:30and double her money in the same afternoon.
0:20:30 > 0:20:35We know what's going to happen. We know how to make money with it.
0:20:35 > 0:20:38Sounds a little too good to be true as she's about to find out in...
0:20:38 > 0:20:41The Stock Swindle - Part 2.
0:20:47 > 0:20:50The girls have arrived back at TRH Investments,
0:20:50 > 0:20:53accompanied by financial reporter Alex and his friend Polly,
0:20:53 > 0:20:56who's also a first-time investor.
0:20:58 > 0:21:03Even at a guaranteed 100% return, this is not yet a done deal.
0:21:03 > 0:21:08The hustlers will need to persuade the mark to actually invest her hard-earned money.
0:21:09 > 0:21:13- This man will need some cash. - Yeah, damn!
0:21:13 > 0:21:16Polly is here as a convincer.
0:21:16 > 0:21:19- And how much are you putting down today?- Four.
0:21:19 > 0:21:21She hands over £4,000.
0:21:21 > 0:21:25- The mark's eyeing the cash. - That's mine.
0:21:25 > 0:21:28Will she join Polly in investing?
0:21:28 > 0:21:31And how much are you guys putting in today?
0:21:32 > 0:21:34This is a big decision for the mark.
0:21:34 > 0:21:38She's brought savings to invest in her future.
0:21:38 > 0:21:42But the hustlers have different ideas for her cash.
0:21:46 > 0:21:47Great. Go for it.
0:21:47 > 0:21:50And here comes the money.
0:21:50 > 0:21:53£500 in cash, borrowed from the mark's friend.
0:21:53 > 0:21:57Then another 500, on her bank card.
0:21:57 > 0:22:01Being the hustler he is, Paul makes sure there isn't more where that came from.
0:22:01 > 0:22:03So much smaller than that other pile, isn't it?
0:22:03 > 0:22:06At the end of the day, everybody says the same thing -
0:22:06 > 0:22:09that they should've put all their money in. If you want to put more in,
0:22:09 > 0:22:11it'll take about an hour.
0:22:12 > 0:22:16Well, you know, we don't take it by pounds but...
0:22:16 > 0:22:18The well is truly dry.
0:22:19 > 0:22:24Time for Gareth to take possession of the cash and card.
0:22:24 > 0:22:27But this is the first time the mark will come face to face with him.
0:22:27 > 0:22:30If he gets recognised, it's game over.
0:22:30 > 0:22:33- Hi.- Can you process these for me right away?- Sure.
0:22:33 > 0:22:37- Try to get them in before the coffee features come in, please.- Sure.
0:22:37 > 0:22:41- And take 500 off of that card, as well.- Right.
0:22:41 > 0:22:45- He'll hold on to the card until after trading but that's fine. - Shouldn't take long.
0:22:45 > 0:22:49Gareth makes a quick exit, taking the investments away with him.
0:22:49 > 0:22:53We just sit and wait now. So, you're looking at a nice big...
0:22:53 > 0:22:57It should go haywire after the announcement.
0:22:57 > 0:22:58Now, they just need to sit back
0:22:58 > 0:23:02and watch the traders work their magic on the CCTV feed.
0:23:02 > 0:23:05Everybody, sell, sell, sell. Everybody, sell like crazy!
0:23:09 > 0:23:11But what are the hustlers playing at?
0:23:11 > 0:23:16The mark's going nowhere until she gets her £2,000 return.
0:23:18 > 0:23:20Yeah.
0:23:21 > 0:23:23Gareth's back from the trading floor.
0:23:23 > 0:23:26And he's got some very bad news.
0:23:34 > 0:23:35Downstairs?
0:23:37 > 0:23:41- We need to go now.- Let me deal with it. I'll just be a few minutes.
0:23:41 > 0:23:45Something's wrong and Paul goes to sort it out.
0:23:45 > 0:23:47You know, it is very exciting...
0:23:47 > 0:23:49Are you lost?
0:23:49 > 0:23:53- Fraud Investigation Department! Everyone put their handsets down! - Oh no!
0:23:53 > 0:23:55Panic breaks out on the trading floor.
0:23:55 > 0:23:59- Oh, no, this is... This is really not good.- What's wrong?
0:23:59 > 0:24:02- This is really bad.- Who are they? - Susie... Everyone needs to get out.
0:24:02 > 0:24:05- Hang on. No!- Everyone needs to be out.- Who are they?
0:24:05 > 0:24:08- Is that a fire drill?- No.
0:24:08 > 0:24:11The girls watch the CCTV feed in complete shock.
0:24:11 > 0:24:13Everyone is being arrested.
0:24:13 > 0:24:17And this whole operation is clearly not legit.
0:24:17 > 0:24:19Get your stuff. Quick. Come on, we've got to go.
0:24:19 > 0:24:22Just get your stuff and go. Come on. It's inside trading.
0:24:22 > 0:24:24It's illegal. There are people in there.
0:24:24 > 0:24:27You'll get arrested if you stay. Come on!
0:24:27 > 0:24:29I've just given them my money.
0:24:29 > 0:24:31I know. But, sweetheart, you'll end up in prison
0:24:31 > 0:24:35- if you don't come now.- We don't want to be interviewed by these guys. - Come on!
0:24:36 > 0:24:39The shell-shocked girls silently follow Jess,
0:24:39 > 0:24:41doing exactly what they're told.
0:24:41 > 0:24:43Hurry up - quick!
0:24:43 > 0:24:47This whole scenario has been created for one purpose -
0:24:47 > 0:24:49to make them scared of being arrested
0:24:49 > 0:24:52and get them as far away from the office as possible.
0:24:52 > 0:24:55If you stay here, you're going to get arrested.
0:24:55 > 0:25:00- This is called inside trading. You're using non-public information to gain...- I am going to kill him.
0:25:00 > 0:25:04They've got no choice but to abandon the money and the credit card.
0:25:04 > 0:25:08If they want to avoid getting caught up in the fraud investigation,
0:25:08 > 0:25:10they've got to get out.
0:25:10 > 0:25:12- What I'd suggest... - Just go. You can just go. Go.
0:25:16 > 0:25:17The girls run off,
0:25:17 > 0:25:21shell-shocked and wondering what on earth just happened.
0:25:24 > 0:25:29We have no idea where anyone's gone, or where our money is, or...anything.
0:25:29 > 0:25:32I just saw it as a way of, you know,
0:25:32 > 0:25:35as a way of me getting myself started and saving.
0:25:35 > 0:25:38Everyone said it was a really good idea.
0:25:38 > 0:25:41I thought it would be. I feel like such an idiot.
0:25:43 > 0:25:45So what really did happen?
0:25:46 > 0:25:50- Marius, now!- Buy gold, buy gold!
0:25:50 > 0:25:54No surprises - it wasn't a real futures trading company.
0:25:56 > 0:26:00That market data was really just a looping graphic sequence created for the scam.
0:26:00 > 0:26:05- Every four minutes, look, if you watch here, it goes up. - It's perfect.- Cool.
0:26:07 > 0:26:13And those fraud investigators were actually Alex, Jazz and Polly.
0:26:13 > 0:26:16Right, people, well done. That was good.
0:26:17 > 0:26:22Of course, Alex and Polly were also in the investors' lounge when it all kicked off.
0:26:22 > 0:26:25And that's because the CCTV feed wasn't live.
0:26:25 > 0:26:28Gareth switched on a pre-recorded DVD
0:26:28 > 0:26:30whilst the girls were distracted.
0:26:30 > 0:26:32Oh, no.
0:26:32 > 0:26:36Fraud Investigation Department! Everyone put your handsets down!
0:26:36 > 0:26:39And as soon as the coast was clear,
0:26:39 > 0:26:41the hustlers ran the whole scam all over again
0:26:41 > 0:26:44with their next unfortunate mark.
0:26:46 > 0:26:50- Wonderful.- Fraud Investigation Department! Everyone put your handsets down!
0:26:50 > 0:26:52Everyone get out quick. Just get out now.
0:26:52 > 0:26:58- Please, otherwise you're all going to get arrested.- Insider trading? - Yes, just get out.
0:26:58 > 0:27:03That was... dreadful, actually. I felt awful. And from the moment
0:27:03 > 0:27:08they walked into the room, I just felt dreadful. My heart was racing.
0:27:08 > 0:27:10I avoided all eye-contact with them.
0:27:10 > 0:27:14And I tried to make sure they didn't see me all that much.
0:27:14 > 0:27:17I'm that bad person who's taken their money away.
0:27:20 > 0:27:23This whole setup is designed to make the marks believe
0:27:23 > 0:27:27that they're dealing with a large-scale financial operation.
0:27:27 > 0:27:30But, as we know, just because you see a few people in good suits
0:27:30 > 0:27:32shouting orders down a telephone,
0:27:32 > 0:27:35that doesn't mean you're dealing with a legitimate business.
0:27:35 > 0:27:37This is a very elaborate scam.
0:27:37 > 0:27:42This needs a lot of people to make it work and they're looking for a lot of victims.
0:27:42 > 0:27:47The important thing here is to make sure you look for a properly accredited financial adviser
0:27:47 > 0:27:49and don't accept advice on the hoof.
0:27:56 > 0:27:59If you want to know more about how the show is made, go to...
